[18:10] * web90 (49ab39c5@CCN-FD80E4E6.hsd1.va.comcast.net) has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:10] * web90 is now known as KK
[18:10] <The_Bee> Hi web90
[18:10] <KK> Hello, all.
[18:10] <The_Bee> aaand Hi KK!
[18:10] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Hello!
[18:10] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Hiya KK!
[18:11] <KK> Anybody still freezing?
[18:11] <The_Bee> How was your week, KK?
[18:11] <The_Bee> we're still cold for anther day.
[18:12] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Not at the moment, but tonight we will be.
[18:12] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Hello KK
[18:12] <KK> Productive.  Major progress on the living room clutter, and eve moved a file box from there to the office.
[18:12] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Love it when a home comes together
[18:12] <chris> today was windy but in the 20's
[18:13] <The_Bee> eve? eve who?
[18:13] <KK> I'm sure Bynw is still freezing.
[18:13] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> 60F but wet
[18:13] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> Hello everyone
[18:13] <The_Bee> Hi shiral
[18:13] <KK> eve=even
[18:13] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Hey Shiral
[18:14] * CambersGhost [discord] <shiral_> passes out blankets and umbrellas to everyone who needs one or the other
[18:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> blanket, thank you.  I am not going back outside for at least a day
[18:15] <KK> Good thinking, Shiral. We'll need both this week.
[18:15] * The_Bee hands out hot mulled cider or hot chocolate.
[18:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Oooh, I'll take some hot chocolate! 🙂
[18:15] * CambersGhost [discord] <shiral_> also snaps fingers and the tea table is set with a nice big enchanted pot of tea, sandwiches, cream, jam and scones
[18:16] <The_Bee> It's weird to think of40f as "mild"
[18:16] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> 40°F is mild for Wintertime. It sucks in the summer. 😉
[18:17] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Yesterday our local museum held a  "old west days" event.  the outside stuff was canceled but fortunetly they had a large inside space where most every one went to. Got to learn how to and play Ferrol.
[18:17] <KK> What is Ferrol?
[18:18] <chris> i'd love 40f in the winter
[18:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Sorry Faro.  It is a card game that Wayt Earp and Bat Masterson use to  play.
[18:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Hi KK, Laurna, Shiral, and anyone else who showed up while I was distracted by my email.
[18:19] <The_Bee> Played in real life, or on TV?
[18:19] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> Hi DR
[18:19] <KK> How's it played?  Is if a form of poker?
[18:20] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> It is a gambeling table game  where the dealer deals out two cards at a time. the first card is the loser and the second card is the winner. and the players put down bets on the table as to which card they think will win or lose for each drawn
[18:20] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> It is a gambeling table game  where the dealer deals out two cards at a time. the first card is the loser and the second card is the winner. and the players put down bets on the table as to which card they think will win or lose for each draw.
[18:20] <chris> going to switch machines
[18:22] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> The dealer of the table is the owner of the game and he ususally just paid the salon for space to play. So after that anything the gamblers lose the owner of the game gets  and yes were were told there was a lot of card counting and cheating going on. lOL
[18:22] <KK> How does the value of cards figure in? I guess that determines win and lose.
[18:22] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> The dealer of the table is the owner of the game and he ususally just paid the salon for space to play. So after that anything the gamblers lose the owner of the game gets  and yes we were told there was a lot of card counting and cheating going on. lOL
[18:23] <~bynw> ok on my laptop now
[18:23] <KK> Card counting only makes sense.
[18:23] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faro_(banking_game)
[18:24] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> I got nosy
[18:24] * ~bynw is sitting in the living room and watching the 2nd divisional playoff game for the day
[18:24] <The_Bee> I've never understood why card-counting is bad.  what's wrong with remembering which cards have been played?
[18:24] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> yes that is it.  the card values don't matter that much.  only betting on the number of the card that you think will come up next as the winner.
[18:25] <The_Bee> So a deuce can beat an ace if the ace is the first card and the deuce is the second?
[18:26] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> See the picture the guy on the middle left side.  He has a card counter in front of him.  He works with the dealer.  he counts how often a number comes up and slides the counter over, so everyone will know when all four of one card has been used up.
[18:27] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> So if all four queens are already played no one will contunue to put a bet down on the queen.
[18:30] <The_Bee> if it's always played with only one deck
[18:30] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Our dealer yesterday said there is a thing called a Faro shuffle,  where  you shuffle the cards so the every other one is slide together. and in this way the dealer could set the cards up before the game begins. then shuffle the cards at the end of every game and still know the exact order that the cards will come up in.  and that they also nearly always had a few extra Cheating  <clipped message>
[18:30] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> cards in the deck  to throw someone off who is trying to count cards.
[18:31] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> He said it was common to have 55 cards instead of 52  LOL
[18:32] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Nothing like the good old west
[18:32] <The_Bee> The only gambling card game I can begin to understand is Blackjack.
[18:33] <KK> And here I thought it was always poker they played.
[18:34] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I have watched Faro being played before. but this is the first time I tried playing it.
[18:34] <~bynw> i've only read the rules for Faro
[18:34] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> And of course  I lost all my fake money.
[18:34] <~bynw> now i've played blackjack, and various forms of poker. including for money in casinos
[18:34] <KK> I'd heard of Faro, though had no idea how it was played. Big gambler here, lol.
[18:35] <The_Bee> I don't play for real money.
[18:35] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Nope,  this was at a framily museum  of course there is no reall money exchange.
[18:36] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> But it was interesting
[18:36] <~bynw> came in 3rd once on a texas hold'em tournament online
[18:37] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Good for you, but don't quite your day job for that.
[18:37] <~bynw> that was many years ago too
[18:38] <~bynw> yeah i'm not a professionally gambler. don't have the bank for it
[18:38] <The_Bee> i won a gift certificate once, but the store didn't have what i really wanted.
[18:38] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Even if you did, you won't have a bank for long
[18:38] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Hi Everyone!
[18:39] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Hello Jerusha
[18:39] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha
[18:39] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> Hi Jerusha
[18:39] <~bynw> well if you play at the level of those tournaments where the win is millions you would be OK
[18:39] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Hi Jerusha
[18:39] <~bynw> hi Jerusha
[18:40] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I was at the Brevard Renaissance Fair again this weekend, For the first time I was not ankle deep in mud!
[18:40] <The_Bee> But then you could lose millions.
[18:40] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Love Ren Faires.  How fun
[18:41] <CambersGhost> [discord] <TM> I thought about the Kerrville ren fest this weekend. But Saturday was high of 40 F, wind chill about freezing, and today it was supposed to start raining.
[18:41] <KK> Brave, to do a renfaire in winter.
[18:41] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Hi Jerusha!
[18:41] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I would have enjoyed the joust if the six-foot guy hadn't decided to stand in front of me.
[18:41] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Brevard County, Florida?
[18:42] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Yes, Dr.  It was cold and windy today.  The fair sold a lot of hoodies!
[18:42] <KK> Or NC, I believe, where a summer music camp is held.
[18:42] <~bynw> I think Jerusha is still in FL
[18:42] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Yeah, then not so crazy to hold a Ren Faire in January.
[18:42] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Yes, Bynw, until spring
[18:42] <~bynw> skipping the Canadian winter?
[18:43] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Oh yeah!
[18:43] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> The nearest one up here, Hoggetowne (in Gainesville) is usually the last weekend in January and the first in February.
[18:43] <CambersGhost> [discord] <TM> The ren fairs in Texas are, I think, October, December, January, March, or something like that.
[18:43] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> It tends to be muddy, but I think they've changed locations since I last went.
[18:44] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> DS1 sent me a message saying the mud was very period, and I should be glad it was only mud!
[18:44] <~bynw> we have one in the spring and then one in the fall
[18:44] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> LOL, true!
[18:44] <CambersGhost> [discord] <TM> Plague, private war, and hangings are period too.
[18:44] <~bynw> i think the canadian winter tried to go south this year and ended up in Iowa
[18:44] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> I chaperoned the Pod-Child's class (I think she was in fourth grade) and we impressed everyone by showing up in garb and knowing some of the people running the SCA demo booth.
[18:45] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Canadians like to share.
[18:45] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Her classmates thought it was super cool that we had the medieval clothes already.
[18:46] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Most of the fair goers had awesome costumes, including the plague doctor
[18:46] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> In Pompeii (quite a bit pre-medieval) they had stone paved roads, but also raised stepping stones to create crossroads where you could cross the street without stepping into mud, animal waste, rain water, or whatever might happen to be washing down the street that day.
[18:46] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I am so happy to have sharing neighbors.   but....
[18:46] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I live to share....
[18:46] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Say what you will about the Romans, but they were good engineers.
[18:47] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Their roads are still with us in some places
[18:47] <~bynw> i usually say good things about the Romans. we owe them a lot
[18:47] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> including our calender
[18:47] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Well, her classmates were in school clothes because it was a Friday, so Pod-Child and I being in garb was very cool to fourth graders.
[18:47] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Cart wheels could easily fit between the raised stepping stones, but they kept your feet dry. I thought it was some pretty cool city planning for a pre-79 AD city.
[18:48] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Oh, definitely the Romans did a lot of good stuff, but as with everything, there are plenty of valid criticisms that can be made.
[18:48] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Well, yeah, that's true of every civilization
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Because they're made by humans, and we tend to suck sometimes. 😄
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> I do love that some of the aqueducts they built are still in use, two thousand years later.
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> Well I'm miffed because the Romans didn't build any roads where I am. 😉
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Sometimes?
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Well, sometimes we're pretty cool, Laurna.
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> OK  Sometimes that too
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> But sometimes humans are jerks.
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I don't think the Romans made it to Utah
[18:49] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Yeah, hopefully present company are mostly OK most of the time. 😉
[18:50] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> This group seems mostly to keep our jerk moments to a minimum.
[18:50] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> agreed
[18:51] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Everyone's a jerk sometimes, but we're a decent lot, all told.  😄
[18:51] <~bynw> and we have trout slaps, and other tools available for those other times
[18:51] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> I mean, I can be a jerk, but you normally have to work pretty hard to earn the privilege of seeing me that way. 😉
[18:51] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> mackeral mayhem
[18:52] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> fish for dinner
[18:52] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> We manage to not be jerks while we're together, at least. But everyone has and everyone is entitled to feeling a bit off, sometimes
[18:52] <KK> Ah, trout slaps.  I was t hinking about Jmler earlier today.
[18:52] <KK> Jemler
[18:52] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I do miss Jemler
[18:52] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Yeah, he crosses my mind every so often too
[18:52] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Awe,  Hello Jemler
[18:52] <~bynw> he got a few
[18:53] * web65 (47e9bb4b@CCN-F032DA17.hsd1.ct.comcast.net) has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:53] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Mackeral tossing just for you.
[18:53] <KK> And wouln't we be surprised if he showed up in chat someway?
[18:53] * web65 is now known as Bee
[18:53] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Did we lose and regain you, KK? Or is that a different Web-# login?
[18:53] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> Sadly, we've lost some fun people
[18:54] <Bee> My evil twin took over my chat.
[18:54] <~bynw> ah Bee is having connection issues. i'm sure the other one will time out shortly
[18:54] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> There are flying fish...could there be angel fish?
[18:54] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Hi Bee
[18:54] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Oh wait; there are angel fish
[18:54] <CambersGhost> [discord] <TM> Devil fish are rays, it seems.
[18:54] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> There technically are angel fish, but they don't fly unless you fling them from the mackerel launcher.
[18:54] <Bee> All i know is my screen vanished
[18:55] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> let us not fling angle fish. they are too pretty
[18:55] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Unlike anglerfish
[18:56] <Bee> There are catfish, but they don't purr.
[18:56] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Which decidedly are NOT
[18:56] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Anglerfish look like something from a horror movie
[18:57] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I have never petted a catfish, so I don't know if they purr or not. lol
[18:57] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> They do taste good
[18:57] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Yum
[18:57] <KK> I think cats, big and small, are the only critters that purr.
[18:57] <~bynw> they have spines so i wouldnt be petting any
[18:58] <Bee> I'd rather eat a catfish than a cat.
[18:58] <KK> Yes.
[18:58] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Carnivores don't tend to be very tasty anyway
[18:58] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> nope
[18:58] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Aside from that whole cats-are-my-soulmates thing
[18:59] <KK> Somewhere, I think S. Korea, just outlawed eating cats.
[18:59] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> And hopefully dogs
[18:59] <Bee> Cats?  I thought it was dogs they ate.
[18:59] <~bynw> both
[19:00] <~bynw> but yes i hope both are outlawed
[19:00] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Well, certain types of rays and skates will permit you petting them.
[19:00] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> If I can pet it, I am not eating it. and that goes for my own farm animals too.
[19:00] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> The South Carolina Aquarium has a petting tank; my cousin takes her children sometimes.
[19:00] <KK> I think that's a different mind-set. But a lot of people's pets do end up in the cat and dog markets.  The article said that the preferred method of dispatching cats was drowning.
[19:00] <Bee> If you're starving you might eat just about anything.
[19:00] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> And it is so cool when they "slurp" a treat from your fingers
[19:01] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Rays, that is
[19:01] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> @sarah_thejellylady lucked into a good price on tickets to an aquarium and took her girls last week or the week before.
[19:01] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Thank you for the clarification, Jerusha, I was wondering who was doing the slurping.
[19:02] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Being five and four, they had a blast.  (Frankly I'd probably have a blast at 48.)
[19:02] <KK> There was a SF story, A Boy and His Dog, I think by Harlan Elison, in which it comes down to which one should survive.
[19:03] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> No point if going on with out a dog at your side. so it is both or none
[19:03] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> I suspect whoever first ate lobster was pretty darn hungry.
[19:03] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I have no intention of every being with out a dog of some type
[19:04] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I have no intention of ever being with out a dog of some type
[19:04] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Just make sure you have some sort of plan set up for what happens to your pets if they survive you
[19:04] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> The only reason I'll live without a critter is if I can no longer care for one.  Cats are a little easier than dogs that way, so it'll probably be a kitty.  Hopefully it'll still be Carys for the next decade or so.
[19:04] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I've been without a dog for over five years now.  The crumbs are building beneath the dining room table
[19:05] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Jerusha, that floor of yours needs a proper toungue washing.
[19:05] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> I had to change litter types the last few years I had Luke and Gigi, partly due to Luke's health issues, but also due to my own back issues that prevented me from being able to carry bags of their original, very heavy litter to the outdoor trash bin anymore.
[19:05] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> Agreed!
[19:06] <~bynw> score at halftime for the AFC divisional playoff game is: Chiefs 13, Bills 17
[19:06] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> I'd bet the Pod-Child and SIL would loan out Audaline, except that fool granddog of mine ate about half a casserole that had scallions in it, so they've just had an emergency vet visit for Little Ms Garbage Gut and probably don't want to risk loaning her out for floor cleaning.
[19:07] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Poor silly pupper!
[19:07] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I wouldn't be happy about scallions either!
[19:07] <Bee> Is that good or bad from your POV, bynw?
[19:07] <KK> But if both, no one profits. I think there was another story, post-apololiptic, (can't seem to spell that tonight) where the last of the big cats were needing to be fed, and at least one zookeeper was thinking to sacrifice  himself so the cats could eat.
[19:07] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Oh dear
[19:07] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> She's fine.
[19:07] <~bynw> I'm liking the outcome Bee
[19:07] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> DD's puppy Levi went to the vet this past week. The report I later got back from DD was "Levi loved the vet visit. My wallet hated it."  😄
[19:08] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> We never seem to be on the same side, Bynw
[19:08] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> 🤣
[19:08] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I don't like cats (of any size) well enough for that sacrafice.
[19:08] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> DD isn't wrong.
[19:08] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> These critters get expensive.
[19:09] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Carys now has to be anesthetized at the vet because otherwise she tries to kick everyone's butt instead of getting her shots and checkup.  The contrast between how sweet she is at home and how much of a butt she is at the vet blows my mind.
[19:10] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I have read that vet visits are VERY stressful for cats
[19:11] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Luke never knew he was a cat. He was just like "Oh, it's the weird smelling place where the people pay lots of attention to me. OK, cool, I'll put up with it for the attention."
[19:11] <Bee> I was at the pet clinic when  someone brought a stray they'd found. The cat was screaming his head off.
[19:11] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Luke was special
[19:11] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Well, I don't blame her for disliking the vet's office.  From her perspective, every time she's there they stick a thermometer up her backside and poke her with needles.  But she will literally hiss, spit, swipe, try to bite anything that gets near her if she's conscious.
[19:11] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Gigi was more like "This place? Again? *sigh* OK, let's get this over with so I can go home."
[19:12] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> It's been my experience that they don't mind the vet until they're spayed/neutered, and that's when the vet's office is designated the Bad Place.
[19:12] <~bynw> Bee, are you sure you don't have another tab or browser window open with the chat in it still? your original sign on hasn't dropped from the chat yet
[19:14] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Neil didn't care, but Neil was a classic case of, in Revanne's words, "so much heart, no room for brains."  (Neil was a dog my family had when I was a wee Rosebud.)
[19:14] <KK> I was supposed to take Daphne to the vet on Thursday, for rabies booster and general wellness check, but realized there was no way I could get the loaded cat carrier into the car on my own, so had to postpone.  But since she's an indoor cat, the booster isn't urgent, nor is the wellness check.  We'll try again in March, and I'll arrange for a fiend
[19:14] <KK> to come and help, if necessary.
[19:14] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> It's always good to have a close fiend
[19:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> good idea
[19:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> You need a fiend to manage the cat? She must be bad-ass!
[19:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> Getting either of ours into their cat carrier was always a major struggle. Fortunately we eventually discovered that both of our cats were perfectly fine if we just wrapped them in a towel like a little purrito long enough to get them down into the car, and then let them decide to stay swaddled or not during the drive to the vet. As long as they could sit in someone's lap, they w <clipped messag
[19:15] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> ere OK with it. A little vocal, but a lot less stressed than riding in the carrier.
[19:16] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> They gave Carys a three-year rabies shot this year, but she still needs her FVRCP booster next year and we'll need her city license so we'll do it again in December.

[19:17] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> City license? Can she drive once she gets it?  Chauffeur Carys....  😄
[19:17] <CambersGhost> [discord] <stnezz> I bring Potpie in every week for fluids, and I just put a harness on him.
[19:17] <~bynw> i'd set out my carriers the day before so they cats would be used to them and climb in and out. then of they would be very vocal during the trip.
[19:18] <KK> Lol.  Guess I'll need to find  a friend rather than a fiend.  In the past, though, our dog Oswald used to love going to the vet, would bark for joy and to announce his arrival when we went through the doors.  He was a very laid back dog, and not a mean bone in his bod
[19:18] <KK> y.
[19:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> My cats howl like banshees on the way to the vet
[19:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Carys hated the hard-sided carrier (I still have it just in case), but this one that we got a couple of years ago is much easier.  https://www.chewy.com/necoichi-ultra-light-collapsible-cat/dp/181671
[19:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> We did the IV fluids for Luke at home, after the first time or two when they showed us how to do them ourselves.
[19:18] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> Couldn't resist a little fun, KK 😉
[19:18] <~bynw> Bee, are you still here?
[19:19] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Oh yeah, even stoned out of her gourd, Carys sings the song of her people in the car on the way to the vet.  Less so on the way home.
[19:19] <CambersGhost> [discord] <evie.delacourt> It was so much easier, especially when we started having to go back to the office, since I couldn't have taken time off weekly to get him to the clinic during their open hours.

[19:22] <The_Bee> Oh, there you are.  I was about to give up.  I'm still The Bee.
[19:22] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I just show my dogs a leash and they get frantic happy to go out side and they love the car ride.
[19:22] <The_Bee> firefox
[19:23] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Carys likes her harness, because that means balcony time.  Unfortunately, her vet clinic requires cats to be in carriers since cats have so very many weapons at their disposal.  And she'd probably still be a pain about going to the vet in harness.
[19:24] <CambersGhost> [discord] <shiral_> We started having to say "W-A-L-K" because Our dog knew what "Walk" meant.
[19:24] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> I had a Clumber Spaniel that used to bob up and down on his front legs before a walk. "Pick me, pick me, I want to go!"
[19:25] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> I love that if you want to paint a mean dragon you give it a cat posture  and face and if you want to paint a friendly dragon you give it a dog posture and face.
[19:25] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> Audaline gets that way when Pod-Child or SIL pick up her leash or harness.  "Ooh, yes, let's go outside!"
[19:25] <The_Bee> I was dog-sitting a Greatdane mix once. When I picked up the leash, he ran to his food bowl, gobbled it up, then was ready to go.
[19:25] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> Love clumber spaniels
[19:26] <CambersGhost> [discord] <azdesertrose> You could almost saddle a Great Dane easier than put a leash on one!
[19:26] <KK> One of Booker's new brothers is a Clumber spaniel, shaped like him.
[19:26] <CambersGhost> [discord] <laurnarose> cool
[19:26] <CambersGhost> [discord] <Jerusha2> They can be sweethearts, but they can also be aggressive.  (Though you wouldn't think so to look at that face!)
[19:28] <The_Bee> This reat dane had been trained by a previous owner.  But if I sped up my pace, he thought I was giving him permission to run.
[19:29] <The_Bee> great dane, not dane
[19:31] <~bynw> hmmmmm my love just brought me a bowl of ice cream and strawberries
[19:31] <KK> Ah, it's getting late, folks.  Tummy is urging me to the kitchen. See you guys next week, and stay warm, all.
