Doorkins Magnificat RIP.

Some 12 years ago a stray tabby cat met the Verger opening up the South-West door of Southwark Cathedral in London. After a few months she became a regular member of the Cathedral family and eventually had a book written about her. She was named Doorkins (the kitty found at the Door  in Southwark) and was welcome at all services, including the funeral of the former Dean during which she slept underneath his coffin, and to wander as she wished.

She roamed in the neighbourhood especially the nearby Borough  Market until the terrorist attack of 2017 after which she decided not to leave the Cathedral again. In 2019 it was realised that it was no longer a safe place for this old lady and she went to live with same Verger who had first found her. She died in his arms about a month ago.

This afternoon she had a memorial service in the Cathedral before being laid to rest in the Cathedral grounds - it can be found on the Facebook page of Southwark Cathedral. The Church of England at it's  wonderful  best.

(I am somewhat biased as Southwark Cathedral 's radical inclusive theology is mine and it is the church my DD2 attends.)
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

This is sad and lovely, Revanne. I'm glad Doorkins had a family at the Cathedral and passed gently amongst those who loved her. Fair winds to Doorkins.

Nice story, I am happy she spent her last year with the Verger,  Sounds like Doorkins was a blessed kitty.
May your horses have wings and fly!
