KK Chat - Mar. 24, 2002, pt. 2

[19:00] *** New is now known as Barticus
[19:00] <Barticus> thats better
[19:00] <Harvey> I am Barticus.
[19:00] <Shiral> But I actually will have next Sunday off, but I won't be able to be HERE as we're having a Family Easter Bash
[19:00] <Archmage> LOL
[19:00] <Wrengl> congratulations Barticus
[19:00] <Archmage> Barticus
[19:00] <virtualbabe> wonder if that works in mIRC too?
[19:00] <Archmage> hehehe
[19:00] <Helenmary> Ave, Barticus!
[19:00] <Harvey> No.  I am Barticus.
[19:00] <Martine> Alright, Barticus!
[19:00] <scribbler> Ah -- I will be with family as well...
[19:00] <Harvey> I am Barticus...and so's my wife.
[19:01] <Wrengl> yes it does, vb
[19:01] <scribbler> up at my niece's....
[19:01] *** virtualbabe is now known as Debbie
[19:01] <Bynw> VB, what works in mIRC?
[19:01] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Yep. It's a IRC command.
[19:01] <Debbie> the name change, and it does
[19:01] <Shiral> Easter and birthday, as my brother's birthday is March 30, and my nephew's birthday is April 7th
[19:01] <Archmage> everything works in mIRC :D
[19:01] <Debbie> no not everything
[19:01] <scribbler> Happy birthday to brother & nephew then....
[19:01] <Martine> Really, Shiral? My big 3-0 is April 13th :-)
[19:01] <Barticus> now I feel like a roman soldier
[19:01] <scribbler> Ah, just a baby....
[19:01] <Wrengl> happy birthday to brother and nephew, shiral
[19:02] <Debbie> my big 30 was 20 yrs ago
[19:02] <KK> Barticus does sound like a Roman soldier.
[19:02] <scribbler> My mom  will be 75 on April 23rd....
[19:02] <Harvey> Happy Birthday to come soon Martine.
[19:02] <Martine> Thanks, Harvey :-)
[19:02] <scribbler> "Hail Barticus Maximus!"
[19:02] <the_Bee> april 23 was my dad's birthday
[19:02] <Barticus> thats one of the few nicknames I actually like
[19:02] <Wrengl> Could also be a monk, Brother Barticus
[19:02] <Shiral> I'm clinging to my thirties by my toes, Martine <G>
[19:02] <Helenmary> April 23 will be our 14th anniversary.
[19:02] <Martine> LOL, Shiral! Keep clinging!
[19:02] <the_Bee> and shakespeare's birthday
[19:03] <Martine> I'll actually be glad. No one believes a woman who says she's 29.
[19:03] <Shiral> But alas, I got one year closer to 4-O last month...
[19:03] <Archmage> well, all... I must away for a while...
[19:03] <Helenmary> Really?  I didn't know that!
[19:03] <Jessie> bye Mage
[19:03] <Barticus> later archmage
[19:03] <Shiral> But actually, I'm in my EXTREMELY late Teens
[19:03] <Martine> Bye mage
[19:03] <Jessie> take care Mage
[19:03] <Shiral> Bye Mage
[19:03] * the_Bee passed the big 5-0 years ago
[19:03] *** Archmage is now known as Mage_Away
[19:03] <Wrengl> 40 is not bad, Shiral.  I VAGUELY remember it.
[19:03] <Debbie> Why not, just because so many of us say it...
[19:03] <Sedina> April 23 is Shakespeare's birthday and also the day that he died (in different years, of course)
[19:03] <KK> LOL, Sedina!
[19:04] <scribbler> If we're talking mental age, I'm about 3 right now (a little cranky)....
[19:04] <Wrengl>  40 is not bad Shiral.  I VAGUELY remember it!
[19:04] <Helenmary> I'll be 39 for the 7th time in may
[19:04] <Martine> LOL, hm!
[19:04] <Shiral> Well, true Pat
[19:04] <Shiral>  and the alternative to turning 40 is not my idea of a good time
[19:04] <Harvey> I think I'm about 6 in mental age (maybe 7).  I'm 32 in chronological age.
[19:04] <Wrengl> Mentally I am still in my teens.  After all, I've passed 50 so I don't have to grow up!
[19:04] <Debbie> I may turn 30 in about 8 yrs
[19:05] <scribbler> So, anyone watching the Oscars and rooting for LOTR tonight?
[19:05] <Helenmary> It was also our Kelson's (the dog) birthday, as well as the day HE died.
[19:05] <Martine> I'm keeping it on in the background, scribbler, just to hear Enya sing live.
[19:05] <Wrengl> I'm rooting for LOTR but not watching the oscars
[19:05] <KK> Oh, sad.  I didn't realize that Kelson-dog was no longer with us.
[19:05] <Debbie> Is Ian MacClellan the only actor nominated?
[19:05] <Barticus> I may channel surf through the oscars once or twice tonight
[19:05] <Shiral> I've got my soundtrack on now
[19:05] <Shiral> And I may tune into the awards LATE in the show
[19:06] <scribbler> oh, is it on back East now? Don't tell me what's happening -- still got an hour and a half to go...
[19:06] <Martine> Great idea Shiral - re soundtrack.
[19:06] <Helenmary> Alas, no.  But he lived a fine, if short (6 years) life while he was. Cancer in Flat-Coats is H***
[19:06] <Martine> Too bad mine's buried somewhere on my desk...
[19:06] <Shiral> But my patience for the whole enchilada is a little thin
[19:06] <KK> Being grown up is not a good thing.  I prefer to keep growing, myself....
[19:06] <Shiral> I WOULD like to see Ian McKellan win, though
[19:06] <Wrengl> lol kk
[19:06] <the_Bee> Isn't on simultaneously? all time zones?
[19:06] <Shiral> Good answer, KK <G>
[19:06] <Martine> Life's only fun when it's constantly changing and challenging.
[19:06] <Debbie> I may be an adult but I rarely feel adult
[19:06] <Wrengl> no the oscars are not on in the east yet.
[19:06] <scribbler> So would I -- it was AWESOME to see him in person at Cinequest!
[19:06] <Sedina> KK - I'm just <slightly> a fan of Shakespeare.  How many 16 yr olds request the complete works for their sweet 16?  I think my parents thought I was joking when I did that
[19:06] <Bynw> i just had my b-day a couple of weeks back
[19:07] <Shiral> Love Shakespeare too
[19:07] <Martine> Sedina - only one complete work? I managed to get two <g>
[19:07] <scribbler> I used to have a complete Shakespeare, but it disappeared in one of my moves -- will have to replace it one of these days....
[19:07] <Wrengl> LOL sedina
[19:07] <Shiral> IT starts at five on the West coast
[19:07] <Shiral> So I think it is simultaneous in all US time zones
[19:07] <the_Bee> 8 pm East coast
[19:08] <Wrengl> Sounds like me.  Only it was promotion to eighth grade for me and the books were Military History
[19:08] <scribbler> Oh good -- I hate listening to the news and they announce results before we get to see...
[19:08] <Farian> keep growing... doesn't matter the end.. only the path:)
[19:08] <KK> While, over here, it is waaaaay late.  Farian and I will have to wait until tomorrow.
[19:08] <Sedina> Martine - I do have more than one now, but that's because I took a class on Shakepeare when I was in college
[19:08] <Wrengl> verra true.
[19:08] <scribbler> Mark didn't think you'd stay up for it, KK....
[19:08] <Martine> Funny, Farian, that's what I kept telling the kids at my church's youth retreat last weekend.
[19:08] <Wrengl> But Best Picture is always AFTER I go to bed anyway
[19:09] <KK> BTW, how did that go last weekend, Martine?
[19:09] <scribbler> Martine -- that's right; how did the retreat go?
[19:09] <Martine> It was excellent!
[19:09] <Debbie> What gets me is the disclamer, "may run longer then scheduled"
[19:09] <the_Bee> "MacBeth" got me intrested in Shakespeare.  Did you know the real macBeth was actually a pretty good king?
[19:09] <Shiral> No sleep but lots of fun anyway, right Martine?? <G>
[19:09] <Martine> We had kids who came grumbling "My parents made me come" announce during the closing Mass that they had never felt so good about themselves.
[19:09] <Wrengl> lol debbie.  ALWAYS runs later than projected!
[19:09] <KK> Have you read Dorothy Dunnett's King Hereafter, about Macbeth?
[19:09] <scribbler> They should make that "WILL run longer than scheduled"....
[19:09] <Martine> So it was worth the time, and the sleep deprivation, and writing a fifteen-minutes personal witness talk.
[19:09] <Farian> :) lol what about some gnosticism among the Deryni?=)
[19:09] <Shiral> Hmm, will have to seek that one out, KK
[19:10] <the_Bee> never heard of Dorothy Dunnett
[19:10] <KK> Run, do not walk, to your nearest library or bookstore, Bee.
[19:10] <the_Bee> thanks for thetip KK
[19:10] <Shiral> I'll have to check on it tomorrow back at work and in harness...
[19:10] <KK> Farian, yes, the Deryni would understand gnosticism.
[19:10] * Martine puts on her running shoes and points them in the direction of Barnes & Noble
[19:11] <Shiral> Martine, they may leave without you <G>
[19:11] <scribbler> Just jotted down the name...
[19:11] <KK> I don't like King Herafter as much as the Lymond books, but it's quite good.
[19:11] <Martine> LOL, Shiral!
[19:11] <Sedina> KK - my college Shakespeare prof also highly recommended that book, iirc.  However, at the time, reading for pleasure was not something that I was able to do
[19:11] <Debbie> my shoes definitly know the way to my nearest chapters
[19:11] <Martine> That's fine, if they buy the book and come back with it <g>
[19:11] <Farian> perhaps the church would not be happy about gnosticism as deryni:) All medieval magic is on a gnostic basis:)
[19:11] <the_Bee> of course, Shakespeare was buttering up Banquo's alleged descendant, King James
[19:11] <Shiral> Put in your wallet and send 'em off, Martine <G>
[19:12] <Helenmary> Bye the way, KK, did you ever get hold of Gabeldon's Outlandish Companion?
[19:12] <Shiral> Banquo died a nasty death..
[19:12] * Martine stuffs $15 into the shoes and sends them out the door
[19:12] <KK> Not yet, Helenmary.
[19:12] <Shiral> How about some truncheon gashes in a Deryni book....
[19:12] <Harvey> I don't know if $15 will get you much at a bookstore, Martine.
[19:12] <Harvey> The shoes may come back asking for more.
[19:12] <Shiral> Paperbacks, Harvey
[19:12] <scribbler> Depends on the store....
[19:12] <KK> A paperback, maybe.
[19:13] <Debbie> hey the average paperback is $10 here
[19:13] <Harvey> Paperback.  I don't know if you can get two, depending upon your tax.
[19:13] <Martine> Well, list price for the paperback version is $16, and I get a discount at B&N.
[19:13] <KK> Mass market, at that.
[19:13] <Helenmary> Or used.  You could get 2 used.
[19:13] <KK> You should just squeak by.
[19:13] <Harvey> Barely.
[19:13] <scribbler> gotta love those discounts....
[19:13] <Shiral> Give the shoes a twenty to be on the safe side, Martine <G>
[19:13] <Wrengl> Indeed
[19:13] <Martine> Maybe I *will* throw in another $5 so it brings me back a Starbucks coffee too
[19:13] <Shiral> Talented shoes <G>
[19:13] <KK> If you do it through Amazon, remember to enter via our website.
[19:13] <Wrengl> I used to get a discount at Waldon's then they closed from across the street from work.
[19:13] <Helenmary> White Chocolate Mocha - nectar of the gods!
[19:14] <Wrengl> Now I use Amazon all the time.
[19:14] <Martine> Ah, yes <g>
[19:14] <Shiral> Definitely
[19:14] <scribbler> oh, that's right -- I need to remember that when looking for books...
[19:14] <Debbie> caramel frappuchino rules
[19:14] <Martine> That too <g>
[19:14] <Shiral> I like a nice vanilla latte, myself
[19:14] <KK> Mocha!  Yum!
[19:14] <Martine> I'll take all of the above!
[19:14] <scribbler> Got hooked on nonfat lattes -- better for the diet...
[19:14] <Wrengl> lol
[19:14] <Helenmary> You missed the leftover Mocha Pecan Tort earlier, KK!
[19:14] <Bynw> hmmm icecream does sound kinda yummy
[19:15] <Wrengl> I like the fat but there is too much sugar in those fancy coffees
[19:15] <Shiral> I try to stay away from Starbucks, but it keeps dragging me back
[19:15] <scribbler> LOL Shiral...
[19:15] <Martine> Shiral, I have a little wallet-saving secret for you ;-)
[19:15] <KK> They do excellent mocha.
[19:15] * Wrengl passes katherine a piece of chocolate pecan pie.
[19:15] <Kelos_al-Hazar> $5 for a cup of java...too much, thanks. :)
[19:15] <Helenmary> They just put one in at our grocery store...it's deadly
[19:15] <Martine> Go to www.specialsips.com and order the competitor's beverage mixes.
[19:15] <Shiral> Oh, Martine??
[19:15] <Martine> Tastes the same, and much cheaper.
[19:15] <Martine> I started doing that when my husband lost his job
[19:16] <Shiral> Yes, but how do I get the drink out of the computer??? <G>
[19:16] <Barticus> well all I need to get going
[19:16] <Barticus> bye all
[19:16] <scribbler> I'm just too lazy to make the stuff myself...plus I like the chairs at my local place....
[19:16] <Shiral>  Night, Bart
[19:16] <KK> On that little cup-holder. ;-)
[19:16] <Martine> By, Barticus!
[19:16] <Barticus> thanks for stopping by KK
[19:16] <the_Bee> seeya barticus
[19:16] <Martine> ROTFL, KK!
[19:16] <Shiral> Oh, right, KK <G>
[19:16] <Bynw> cya bart
[19:16] <KK> Night, Barticus!
[19:16] <Wrengl> bye barticus
[19:16] <Jessie> bye Bart
[19:16] <scribbler> night Barticus...
[19:16] <Bynw> we should get together sometime this spring
[19:16] <Shiral> But I though that was the foot pedal....
[19:16] <Helenmary> See ya, Bart
[19:16] * Barticus steps onto his portal waving as he disappears
[19:16] *** Barticus has left #Deryni_Destinations
[19:16] <Debbie> bye-eee bart
[19:17] <Shiral> I generally drink tea at home, anyway
[19:17] <Martine> No, no, Shiral, THAT'S the foot pedal.
[19:17] <Martine> Shiral, that web site has yummy chai, too <g>
[19:17] <Shiral> But I'm very finicky about my tea -- liptons just doesn't cut it
[19:17] * Debbie has just discovered chai
[19:17] <Martine> Just make sure to get the Big Train tea and chai. The other is lousy
[19:17] <Martine> 2.5 lb bag of the stuff for $15. Can't beat it.
[19:17] <Shiral> <CRUNCH>  Oh NOW you tell me that's the foot pedal...
[19:17] <Wrengl> I drink liptons but prefer Twinnings
[19:17] <Jessie> Katherine:  is there an Eastmarch equivalent in our world
[19:18] <scribbler> I like the Bigelow Decaf Earl Grey....
[19:18] <KK> Sort of Northumbria, maybe?
[19:18] <KK> Twinings Earl Gray is best.
[19:18] <Martine> Yum.
[19:18] <Shiral> No see..... I'm REALLY fussy about tea. I go for Fortnum's tea
[19:18] <Helenmary> Would that be "Earl Gray, hot?" :)
[19:19] <Wrengl> Bigelow is good also but Twinings Earl Grey is great!
[19:19] <Shiral> Twinings is also very good
[19:19] <KK> Twinings is our favorite.  That's all Scott drinks.
[19:19] <Martine> They serve Twinings in the tea room at the London Waldorf.
[19:19] <scribbler> But they don't do decaf -- I make iced tea using two bags of Earl Grey and 2 bags of herbal like peppermint or spice....
[19:19] <Debbie> yum, sounds nummy scribs
[19:19] <Helenmary> I'm almost positive that Twinnings does a decaf
[19:19] <Wrengl> oh that sounds delishous scribbler.  Will have to try that
[19:20] <scribbler> It is -- I've been trying to cut back on caffeine...
[19:20] <Shiral> I like Twinings Lady Grey
[19:20] <Shiral> AND Earl Grey...
[19:20] <scribbler> I'll have to look for it, HM...
[19:20] <Wrengl> have not tried lady grey
[19:20] <KK> OK, but not enough omph for us.
[19:20] <Wrengl> lady grey the tea, not the kitten, that is.
[19:20] <Martine> Caffeine is good.
[19:20] <Shiral> Earl Grey is oomph, Lady grey is for a nice, relaxing afternoon cuppa
[19:21] <Bynw> caffeine is very good
[19:21] <Martine> And Twinings does have a decaf Earl Grey. I just checked their web site.
[19:21] <scribbler> It just seemed to do a number on my digestive tract at times, so I'm cutting back...
[19:21] <Martine> Caffeine is a gift of the gods
[19:21] <the_Bee> I've never had a properly brewed Earl Grey
[19:21] <Wrengl> Must not tell Lady Grey of Helping Paws, Inc that you want to make tea out of her, Shiral!
[19:21] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I'm using decaf Earl Grey right now... too much caf can make one snap people's heads off...
[19:21] <Shiral> IT was funny -- I got a box of Lady grey as a gift to a friend, and she got ME a box, and we both tried to give each other our "presents" at the same moment. <G>
[19:21] * Debbie giggles
[19:21] * Martine laughs
[19:21] <Shiral> Not out of the cat, Pat! <G>
[19:21] <scribbler> Thanks, Martine -- I wonder if Cost Plus carries it...
[19:22] <Harvey> I have to head out to the airport and fly back to Cleveland for work again this week.  See you all next week.
[19:22] <Sedina> Bynw - we know how you prefer your caffeine though
[19:22] * Bynw thinks of other funny things like K I L T S
[19:22] <Shiral> Was that Cost-puss, Scribbler?
[19:22] <Helenmary> I just checked the pantry - I actually HAVE a box of Twinnings Decaf Earl Grey
[19:22] <scribbler> Have fun, Harvey...
[19:22] <Jessie> bye Harvey -- take care
[19:22] <Sedina> Bye Harvey
[19:22] <scribbler> LOL Shiral....
[19:22] <Bynw> cya Harvey
[19:22] <Sedina> pbbbbt, Bynw
[19:22] <Martine> Bye Harvey!
[19:22] <Shiral> Bye Harvey
[19:22] <Martine> Safe travel!
[19:22] <Wrengl> bye harvey
[19:22] <Wrengl> safe trip
[19:22] <Debbie> Later harve
[19:22] <Harvey> How do I do that exit thing again?
[19:22] <the_Bee> have a good week harv
[19:22] <KK> Safe flight, Harvey.
[19:22] <Helenmary> It came from Giant here in Baltimore
[19:22] <scribbler> "Welcome to Tea Talk with Katherine Kurtz".....
[19:22] <Harvey> So that it says something when I leave?
[19:23] <Wrengl> lol scribs
[19:23] <Martine> Type "/quit <your message here>"
[19:23] <the_Bee>  type /me action
[19:23] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I got mine at Winn-Dixie here in Clanton. Go figure. :)
[19:23] <Shiral> KK, do they have the equivalent of tea in the Deryni world??
[19:23] <Helenmary> It smells good to - it is now sitting on my desk :)
[19:23] <Shiral> To get somewhat back on topic <G>
[19:23] <Wrengl> Giant carries a lot of British stuff
[19:23] *** Harvey has quit IRC (QUIT: Harvey scurries away with kilt flying in the wind...)
[19:23] * Sedina giggles
[19:23] <KK> I remember something about darja tea in Torenth....
[19:23] <Martine> Uh oh. Sedina might go chase him down now <g>
[19:23] <Shiral> I remember that, too
[19:23] <Sedina> lol Martine
[19:23] <Shiral> Would the Moors also have coffee?
[19:24] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Yep. Same here. Wondered if that was Darjeeling...
[19:24] <Debbie> I'm sure there are other herbs steeped
[19:24] <KK> I expect they even have a coffee equivalent in the Moorish states.
[19:24] <KK> Tea infusions are pretty universal.
[19:24] * Shiral can see Kelson innocently accepting a cup of coffee in Torenth, not realizing, and is still wide awake and bouncing off walls in the middle of the night
[19:24] <Debbie> You'll have to ask Azim about that katherine
[19:24] <Wrengl> herbal teas would certainly be common, I would imagine
[19:24] <KK> Will do.
[19:24] <Martine> LOL Shiral!
[19:25] <Martine> So that's what happened - our channel surfing king got into my coffee stash!
[19:25] <Wrengl> lol martine
[19:25] <scribbler> maybe Healers would have teas to use on patients, to relax them before they could work...
[19:25] <Martine> He was flipping through the channels until 5am!
[19:25] <Shiral> "It's all a nefarious plot to deprive the King of Gwynedd of his needed rest..."
[19:25] <the_Bee> "coffee" comes from an Arabic/Turkish word
[19:25] <KK> Yawn.  All this talk of tea and coffee is making me sleepy. Actually, it comes of having stayed up until neary 3 AM last night to watch a Miss Marple movie.
[19:25] <KK> Yes, Scribs.
[19:25] * Shiral hands KK a cup of hot cocoa
[19:25] <Wrengl> miss marple is fun
[19:26] <the_Bee> who played Miss Marple?
[19:26] * Martine hands KK a cup of turkish coffee
[19:26] <Shiral> And here I thought I was a night owl
[19:26] <KK> Yes, this was the one about Pocket Full of Rye.
[19:26] <Debbie> Which Miss marple movie was it KK?
[19:26] <Shiral> Hey Martine, between us, we've handed her a mocha!
[19:26] * Martine hands KK a mixer to blend the two
[19:26] <scribbler> And talk of tea and coffee is making me hungry -- got to go get my salad ready for dinner....
[19:26] * Wrengl would make hot chocolate but her cadbury's drinking chocolate is in Maryland with Kathi
[19:26] <scribbler> Have a good writing week, KK....
[19:26] <KK> And on that note, Katherine drinks down her delightful mocha and gives a happy sigh.
[19:27] <Martine> Night, Scribbler
[19:27] <Wrengl> good writing Katherine
[19:27] <Shiral> On the other hand we want KK to be very alert when recommencing work on Childe Morgan
