Katherine had already arrived before I did -- so this is as much of the transcript as I have available. -- Jessie

Session Start: Sun Aug 12 2001
[15:20] *** Now talking in #Deryni_Destinations
[15:20] *** Topic is 'Saint Camber's Fireside Chats with Katherine Kurtz'
[15:20] *** Set by DeryniBot on Sat Aug 11 12:25:18
[15:20] -DeryniBot- All are invited to attend the marriage of Lord Bynw & Lady Tika at the Darkover Convention in Timonium, MD on Saturday November 24th, 2001 CE.

[15:20] -DeryniBot- Please remember to visit our sponsors page at:
[15:20] -DeryniBot- http://www.psionics.net/sponsors.html
[15:20] *** ChanServ sets mode: +o Jessie
[16:09] <Sedina> wb Jessie
[16:09] <scribbler> wb Jessie --
[16:09] <Shiral> Yes, although with some of the grief Cinhil inflicted on his loved ones, I thought he deserved a bit of saddle-sore exhaustion, KK <G>
[16:10] <whytcrow> you're weird. ;)
[16:10] <KK> Jessie, your arrival coincided exactly with my Jessie jumping up on my lap to supervise.  :-)
[16:10] <Shiral> WB, Jessie
[16:10] <Jessie> meow?
[16:10] <Wrengl>  wb Jessie
[16:10] <Kendall> maybe,
[16:10] <Jessie> hello all
[16:10] <KK> Purrrrr.
[16:10] <Kendall> wb jessie
[16:10] <Shiral> Jessicat wants to chat with us. <G>
[16:11] <KK> She does.  She's getting very sociable.
[16:11] <Bynw> let her have the keyboard!
[16:11] <Shiral> Kitten on the keys!
[16:11] <Sedina> Jessiecat must also realize that we a room full of kitty lovers.  *g*
[16:11] <KK> If we're talking about quirks of programs.... I have a question--or two.
[16:11] <whytcrow> mine are a little too sociable -- trying to convince me not to go away for a week at a time ;)
[16:11] <scribbler> is Jessicat fully recovered from her snip-snip job?
[16:11] <Shiral> Pan has taken up his customary position on top of my monitor
[16:11] <Jessie> Cat Chat --
[16:11] <Kelos_al-Hazar> What sorts of problems, KK?
[16:11] <whytcrow> KK, ask away!
[16:11] <Jessie> with Jessie Cat, Pan & fruit kitty
[16:12] <KK> Why does my Outlook Express keep wanting to reconnect when I'm working offline.  It didn't used to do that.
[16:12] <Sedina> Jessie - don't forget the Miss Myah and Sadie Cat.  *g*
[16:12] <Jessie> sorry Sedina
[16:12] <Kelos_al-Hazar> It thinks you're in Online mode, apparently.
[16:12] <KK> Jessicat is well recovered and growing her furs back.
[16:12] <whytcrow> OE isn't my territory...perhaps a setting got reset
[16:12] <KK> It never thought that before.
[16:12] <scribbler> You might need to look at the preferences, KK -- there might be a box checked that tells OE to do that....
[16:12] <whytcrow> And prefs can get reset for strange reasons
[16:13] <KK> OK, I'll try that.  Second question.
[16:13] <scribbler> gremlins (or husband) on the keys....
[16:13] <KK> (This technical stuff has bored the socks off Jessicat--if she had socks.  She's now checking out the scanner.)
[16:13] <Kendall> hey, I resemble that remark
[16:13] <Shiral> You married a Gremlin, Roberta?
[16:13] <Shiral> LOL, KK
[16:13] <whytcrow> well, scanners are fun
[16:13] <KK> Second question, re differences between Windows 98 and Windows ME, which is what's on my new laptop.
[16:13] <scribbler> when it comes to technology, I'm the better of the two...
[16:14] * Kelos_al-Hazar shudders
[16:14] <KK> The help box doesn't work the same way; can it be reset?  I want the old index list, and it keeps wanting me to ask it questions.
[16:14] <Kendall> one of the few things I don't like about it either KK
[16:14] <Kelos_al-Hazar> The questions you ask it are like the Win98 search box...
[16:14] * scribbler at a loss, as she's a Mac user....
[16:14] <AnnDupuis> Re outlook express -- I'd make sure my system was *very* up to date with the latest virus protection, as you could be infected and the virus/worm/whatever is what's causing OE to keep attempting to reconnect....
[16:15] <KK> Is one stuck with that?  Seems like I got into an index list one time, but don't know how I did it.
[16:15] <Kelos_al-Hazar> And beware of System Restore...
[16:15] <Shiral> I just have windows 98
[16:15] <KK> I have the latest Norton updates; I think I'm safe.
[16:15] <Bynw> I haven't done much with ME yet .... I had it on my laptop and went back to Win98 cause I liked it better... but bring that laptop to darkover and we can see what we can do with it
[16:15] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Some programs require you to DISABLE it during updates, or they will fail.
[16:15] <Kendall> I have yet to find a way to get the original help index KK
[16:15] <KK> Will do.
[16:15] <Kelos_al-Hazar> ther=they
[16:16] <whytcrow> i never use the help function, b/c I find it is rarely all that helpful.  I seem to recall there being an option though...
[16:16] <Shiral> So KK did you have a good writing week?
[16:16] <scribbler> So, how did the writing go this week, KK, or were you struggling with technology all week?
[16:16] <KK> Well, I think it IS in there, cause I saw something like that.
[16:16] <Kendall> it is, you just have to find it, and when you do find it let me know
[16:16] <Jessie> it is there Katherine -- I'm pretty sure -- son has ME on
his computer -- but no programs (other than games) -- will play with it and find out
[16:16] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Biggest gripe I have with WinME/Win2000 is the fact that their DOS boot disks AREN'T DOS... They're some weird hybrid.
[16:17] <KK> Technology was minor; I was editing DA Mag stories and writing new progress reports--oh, and I did get through the tightening on two more chapters.  The front part of a book, especially in a new trilogy, is always
slow.
[16:17] <scribbler> Welcome to "Saint Camber's Technology Chats with KK"....
[16:17] <Bynw> lol
[16:17] * Kelos_al-Hazar grins, then chuckles softly
[16:17] <Sedina> LOL scribbler
[16:17] <Shiral> I think the Festils are responsible for the SirCam virus. <G>
[16:17] <Shiral> Nasty, sneaky lot that they are
[16:18] <KK> Nah, I'd think it was the Regents.
[16:18] <Shiral> Maybe they collaborated
[16:18] <Shiral> <G>
[16:18] <Kendall> well at least they enough to have Healers in their court
[16:18] <whytcrow> i just pulled up the help on my machine, from the start menu (WinME).  I get a web page list of links, a search option, and the ability to get to an index of topics
[16:18] <scribbler> The earlier Festils didn't seem to be too bad; after all, Camber was adviser to two of them....
[16:18] <Shiral> Uh oh...
[16:18] <Kendall> peer's here
[16:18] <scribbler> Uh-oh, I spoke too soon....
[16:18] * Shiral flings a flaming fireball at peer
[16:18] *** Kelos_al-Hazar has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:18] * Sedina ducks to avoid Shiral's fireball
[16:18] <Shiral> WB, Kelos
[16:18] <Sedina> wb Kelos...  Shiral got peer with a fireball
[16:19] * Kendall runs into his castle at the sight of the fireball
[16:19] * Jessie offers burn cream around the room
[16:19] <Shiral> Now then Sedina, my aim IS getting better slowly
[16:19] * Kiri` is slightly singed by the fireball.. sends shiral to target practice..
[16:19] * Kelos_al-Hazar is not happy at all...
[16:19] <KK> Ah, but can you get an index list from within Word?
[16:19] <Shiral> Hi Kiri
[16:19] <Jessie> word 97?
[16:19] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Thanks everyone.
[16:19] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Yes... you can.
[16:19] <Sedina> Shiral - I've seen far too many singed objects to not wish to play it safe.
[16:19] <KK> Word 2000, I think.  Whatever came with ME.
[16:19] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Word XP...
[16:19] <Kiri`> hi shiral
[16:19] <Kendall> that'd be 2000
[16:19] * Shiral rolls her eyes. It's only VIRTUAL fire!
[16:20] <Kiri`> hi KK
[16:20] *** Mike Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[16:20] * lbarms giggles
[16:20] <KK> Hi-ho.
[16:20] <KK> Peer's getting bolder.
[16:20] <scribbler> now we've got peer really P.O'd....
[16:20] * Kendall runs back under the portcullis
[16:20] <KK> Kelos, where's that frozen tigershark?!
[16:20] <Sedina> Virtual or not, Shiral...you're still dangerous!
[16:20] <Shiral> Evil is that way, Sedina
[16:20] <Kiri`> well i'm Virtually singed *WINK*-
[16:21] * Sedina giggles at Kiri
[16:21] <Shiral> How is the remodeling going, KK? Or is that a question better not asked?
[16:21] <whytcrow> KK, do a search for "remove assistant" and it will tell you how to set it up for "getting help without the assistant"
[16:21] <KK> BTW, Ann, I think that mysterious river is 'cause I saw the dotted line on the Codex map as a solid one, and therefore assumed it was a river--and drew it in on the master map accordingly.  I hadn't gotten as far
east as Rob did.
[16:22] * Kendall talks with the guards at eh portcullis, "If you see that peer, I want him arrested and thrown into the dungeon. I am tired of getting hit by Shiral's fireballs!"
[16:22] <Sedina> LOL Kendall
[16:22] *** hygilac has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:22] <KK> The Remove Assistant just seems to be a toggle on/off from the Help box.
[16:22] <Kiri`> re linda
[16:22] <Shiral> Honest Kendall I wasn't aiming at YOU!
[16:22] <Jessie> wb hygilac
[16:22] <Shiral> Hi Linda
[16:22] <Sedina> wb hygilac  Storm over?
[16:22] <Kendall> wb hygilac
[16:22] <scribbler> WB hygilac!!!!
[16:22] <hygilac> hi again
[16:22] <whytcrow> the thunder storms go away?
[16:23] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Here is what to do... Help->Microsoft Word Help...
[16:23] <KK> Was Linda being threatened by thunderstorme?
[16:23] <scribbler> I think Mike gave up....
[16:23] <Shiral> Or maybe he had to reboot
[16:23] <hygilac> yes, KK, I was
[16:23] <KK> It's raining here--but no thunder.
[16:23] <hygilac> the thunder scared me offline
[16:23] <scribbler> she hopped off for a bit....
[16:23] <Kelos_al-Hazar> This assumes the Office Assistant is turned off...
[16:23] <AnnDupuis> Katherine -- actually, Rob told me that looping-back-to-the-coast-river (impossible geography) was the result of the mapmaking mistaking Rob's squiggles indicating the Tralian border as a
river. All fixed now, no more impossible geography along the Tralian border/Sea of sorrows. :-0
[16:23] <whytcrow> KK, there seems to be an options button on the bottom of the assistant...click on that, and it will allow you to click off the use assistant option
[16:24] <scribbler> Ann -- nothing is impossible in the Deryni Universe....
[16:24] <Shiral> But lots of things are improbable, <G>
[16:24] <KK> Good idea.  Annie got her phone fried a few weeks ago. Fortunately, there were surge protectors on the computers.  But if you're online, I guess it zaps the phones--and could maybe zap the computer as
well.
[16:24] <Kendall> most definitely
[16:25] <AnnDupuis> Scribbler -- that's true, but internal consistency requests an explanation for such "im"possibilities. In this case the "impossibility" was the result of cartographic error. :-)
[16:25] * Jessie imagines a poor little deryni filtering the salt out of the water as it enters the river from the sea -- and pushing it back out to sea on the other end
[16:25] <whytcrow> a friend had his computer zapped b/c he didn't have the phone lines protected and it went through his modem
[16:25] * scribbler is glad the Left Coast doesn't get too many T-storms.....
[16:25] <Kendall> I have seen it even when it gets zapped thru the surge protectors
[16:25] <Jessie> cornered the salt market in Gwynedd
[16:25] <KK> LOL, Jessie.
[16:25] <hygilac> I had that happen once too
[16:25] <Shiral> I am too, Scribbler
[16:25] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Even with the computer off and otherwise unplugged, you might fry the computer with a surge over the phone line plugged in to the modem..
[16:25] <whytcrow> you really have to have a good surge protector for it to block an actual lightening surge
[16:25] *** raushana has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:25] <Jessie> hello raushana
[16:25] <Shiral> Hi Raushana
[16:25] <KK> Can a surge protector be put on a phone line?
[16:25] <scribbler> Hi raushana!!!!
[16:25] <Jessie> yes
[16:25] <Kendall> yes
[16:25] <raushana> Hello everyone!
[16:26] <Kiri`> hi raushana
[16:26] <whytcrow> yeah -- you can get them
[16:26] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Yes, KK...
[16:26] <Sedina> Hi raushana
[16:26] <hygilac> I now have surge protection on the phone as well, but I just don't like sitting in front of all that circuitry during a storm
[16:26] <Bynw> yes there are surge protectors for phone lines
[16:26] <KK> What do they look like?
[16:26] <scribbler> KK -- there are surge strips that include plugs for phone/modem hookups....
[16:26] <Kendall> disconnect everything from the computer
[16:26] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Look for a power director or surge suppressor with phone jacks on it.
[16:26] <Kendall> don't take any chances
[16:26] <whytcrow> any decent electronics store should have them
[16:26] <KK> I've seen those--but how do they work?  phone lines in and out?
[16:26] <Kendall> with all of my writing on the computer, I never take a chance
[16:26] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Kendall, that is nearly impossible over here...
[16:27] <whytcrow> i don't take chances either
[16:27] <Jessie> do they sell the APC brand of surge protector overseas?
[16:27] <lbarms> I have seen them in the German stores
[16:27] <Kelos_al-Hazar> It takes me a good 20-45 minutes to unplug all the cables off my computers...
[16:27] <scribbler> KK -- I think there's a phone cord that goes from the strip to the wall jack, then a place to plug in your phone cord....
[16:27] * Shiral - *camber is scratching his head, wondering if his Protocols of Orin need a surge protector..*
[16:27] <Kelos_al-Hazar> LOL!
[16:27] <Kendall> so if you want to keep your computer from getting fried, Kelos, you find a way
[16:27] <Sedina> LOL Shiral
[16:28] <KK> Dunno, Jessie, but I've written that down on a post-it and will check out the local computer store.  Thanks.
[16:28] <Shiral> Precious documents like that must be protected!
[16:28] * Kelos_al-Hazar reassures Camber that the Protocols of Orin aren't electronic, therefore they are safe from lightning.
[16:28] <KK> What about mage lightning?
[16:28] <whytcrow> well, not exactly -- just safe from an electrical surge
[16:28] <Kendall> anything in writing is never safe from any kind of fire
[16:28] <Shiral> Unless he just happens to be standing under a lone tree on a plain during a storm
[16:28] <hygilac> camber, put them under a protection spell
[16:28] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I have, actually... Very strong surge protectors on every vulnerable line.
[16:29] <scribbler> or golfing....
[16:29] *** Shiral is now known as Camber
[16:29] <Camber> Thank you, Hygilac
[16:29] <Kendall> welcome Camber
[16:29] <Sedina> Shiral - perhaps you should remind Camber about places where NOT to stand during storms.  *g*
[16:29] *** Camber is now known as Shiral
[16:29] <Kendall> we are blessed to have a saint with us today
[16:29] <scribbler> He was in his non-saint mode....
[16:29] <Shiral> ANd he didn't stick around for long
[16:29] <Shiral> <G>
[16:30] <Kendall> must have been a shape-shifting spell
[16:30] <hygilac> possibly so
[16:30] <Shiral> Everyone thinks he's Alister Cullen after all.
[16:30] <Kendall> now where are the ethics in that?
[16:30] <KK> Shiral, did you get my note about resending your Zipper column?
[16:30] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: www.apc.com (APC's website) probably has shipping options or a store locator.
[16:30] <Shiral> Yes, and I sent it to you right away, KK
[16:30] <hygilac> did I miss the Childe Morgan update while I was away?
[16:30] <KK> Thanks, Kelos.  I've added that to the first note.
[16:30] <Shiral> Before I came in here for the chat
[16:31] <KK> OK, Shiral, I hadn't checked my mail before I came here.
[16:31] <Shiral> Hopefully it should be in your in-box
[16:31] <Kendall> shhh, no one say a wod
[16:31] <Shiral> It wasn't a problem, as I hadn't actually sent it to you before. <G>
[16:31] <Kendall> word
[16:31] <KK> It will be, when I check my mail.  Remember that all my e-ing is done offline and queued.
[16:31] <scribbler> be vewwy quiet, we're hunting writers....
[16:32] <KK> Did you not?!  I could've sworn....  But I have Susan's.
[16:32] *** the_Bee has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:32] <Kendall> uh-oh, we'd better hide
[16:32] <Sedina> HI Bee!
[16:32] <Shiral> No, I didn't send it until today
[16:32] <Jessie> hello Bee
[16:32] <scribbler> Hi the_Bee!!!!
[16:32] <Shiral> Hi Bee
[16:32] <KK> Hi, Bee!
[16:32] <raushana> Hi Bee!
[16:32] <Kendall> ola Bee
[16:32] <KK> Jessicat is back.
[16:32] <Wrengl>  Hi Bee
[16:32] <Shiral> I thought you wanted to concentrate on Childe Morgan, which I certainly approved of
[16:32] <the_Bee> Hi all .  Hide from what, Kendall?
[16:32] <Shiral> Jessicat must not like technology talk
[16:32] <scribbler> WB Jessicat!!!!
[16:33] <Kendall> they are hunting writers
[16:33] <KK> Yes, but we have to keep the website regularly updated.
[16:33] <whytcrow> smart kitty!
[16:33] <the_Bee> Hi KK.  Where did Jessicat go?
[16:33] <KK> She'd been on my lap, but left briefly while we were talking techie talk.
[16:33] <scribbler> Bee -- we were talking computer stuff, which bored her....
[16:33] <hygilac> perhaps she sensed my thunderstorm
[16:33] <Shiral> Or maybe she was scared of a power surge
[16:34] <hygilac> charlotte tends to disappear when the storms blow up
[16:34] * Kelos_al-Hazar is wondering how to make enough money to be assured of going to Darkover...
[16:34] <KK> It's great to have her here on my lap.  I've not had a lap cat since my beloved Bearcat died, about 5-6 years ago.
[16:34] <scribbler> awwww....
[16:34] *** Michael has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:34] <Shiral> Your right cat found you, KK
[16:34] <Shiral> <G>
[16:34] <Shiral> Hi Michael
[16:34] <Sedina> My kitties certainly didn't like the storm that blew through here this week.  Were jumpy for hours after it was over
[16:34] <Kendall> welcome Michael
[16:34] <scribbler> Hi Michael!!!!
[16:34] <raushana> Hello Michael.
[16:34] <the_Bee> Hi michael
[16:34] <KK> She did--and courtesy of Annie, as was a previous kitty, Pandora.
[16:34] <Sedina> Aww, that's sweet KK.
[16:34] <Michael> My poor lil 'puter froze up on me!
[16:34] <Wrengl>  Lap cats are nice.  Unless they land on you suddenly when you are painting or stringing beads!
[16:35] <Sedina> Hi Michael
[16:35] <Shiral> I know that feeling, Pat.
[16:35] <Shiral> Or when they want to "help" you write
[16:35] <KK> Hmmm, yes.  I can't do counted beading when she's next to me.
[16:35] <Shiral> or paing
[16:35] <Shiral> paint
[16:35] <Sedina> Pat - but they so want to help!!
[16:35] <Sedina> I'm forever picking kitty hair out of my paint.  *s*
[16:35] <scribbler> My sister's cat, Gandalf, was a lap cat whenever I ate fried chicken and dripped juice on my shirt....
[16:35] <Wrengl>  Helping to write is not nearly as much a problem as a kitty paw print in the middle of a freshly painted part of a piece!
[16:35] <Kelos_al-Hazar> "Mamma, I wanna HELP!" :)
[16:35] <KK> And there was also Rupurrt of blessed memory, who was silver tabby and half-Maine Coon.
[16:35] <Shiral> I have all these cat hairs embedded in my paints!
[16:36] <Shiral> Oh boy, you said it, Pat!
[16:36] <hygilac> Charlotte likes to help me cook
[16:36] <Wrengl>  That is true and the daughter cat is SO helpful!
[16:36] <Shiral> Annie is a good cat source, KK! <G>
[16:36] <hygilac> she is here keeping me company now
[16:36] <Wrengl>  And I feel awful to put her down, knowing we only will have a VERY short time more.
[16:36] <KK> Yes, she is.  We dragged her off to the movies last night to see Dogs and Cats; we saw Shreck last week.
[16:36] * Kendall misses his cats
[16:36] * scribbler HAS to find a place that allows cats when she moves....
[16:37] <Wrengl>  We saw Jurassic Park 3 as an escape from the 103 degree Thursday.
[16:37] <scribbler> How did you like Shrek? I haven't seen Dogs & Cats yet.....
[16:37] <KK> I'm sorry, Wrengl.  On a brighter note, how's Thumper?
[16:37] <KK> Shreck was delightful
[16:37] <whytcrow> i didn't like Cats and Dogs...Shrek was fun, but I thought that one change would have made it a better film
[16:38] <Kendall> definitely a cute movie
[16:38] <Wrengl>  Walking more.  Still wobbly but definitely better outside. Not good on linoleum still but that will come I am sure.
[16:38] <KK> Which was...?
[16:38] <scribbler> what change, whytcrow?
[16:38] <Shiral> It's been yonks since I went to a movie... I think the last one I saw in a theater was Bridget Jones' diary
[16:38] <whytcrow> If folks haven't seen it, I don't want to spoil it
[16:38] <Sedina> Shiral - you and me both.  Haven't been to a movie in eons.
[16:38] <Wrengl>  Haven't seen Shrek OR Cats and Dogs
[16:38] <scribbler> I missed Bridget Jones in the theaters -- will have to wait for video...
[16:38] <Shiral> Part of me just rebels at paying $8.50
[16:39] <Michael> Last movie I saw was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
[16:39] <Kendall> you ladies have to get away from your computers more often
[16:39] <KK> Scott is a film nut, so we have bouts of moviemania.
[16:39] <hygilac> I don't know how long it had been before I took David to a couple while he was visiting last month
[16:39] <Shiral> What?? Leave the COMPUTER???
[16:39] <KK> Michael, I managed to miss that--and I hear it's <really> good.
[16:39] <whytcrow> the best part of cats and dogs was the "Russian" which looked very much like my humane society cat Ao-Chan
[16:39] <Wrengl>  Movies are $9 here but we went to the first showing which was $5.50
[16:39] <scribbler> if you go during the day, it's only about $5 or $6, I think....
[16:39] <whytcrow> I loved CT, HD
[16:39] <Shiral> True, but it's hard to get off work <G>
[16:39] <KK> Yes, I liked the Russian Blue, too.
[16:39] <Sedina> LOL  It's not that I need to get away from the computer, I'm more like Shiral.  I'd rather buy a new book with the money that it takes to buy a movie ticket
[16:39] <Michael> It is good.  Its got martial arts in it, but it is also a love story.
[16:40] <scribbler> true...
[16:40] <KK> Shiral, are you home today or at work?
[16:40] <hygilac> all of me rebels at paying so much for a movie ticket!
[16:40] <Kendall> $6.75 here, matinee 4.50
[16:40] <Shiral> And my days off feel too short already
[16:40] <whytcrow> he sounded just like the RUssians I used to work with
[16:40] <Shiral> At Home!!! <G>
[16:40] <whytcrow> "stupid American door!"
[16:40] <Shiral> I haven't had to leave the chat. <G>
[16:40] <KK> Yippie!  I was beginning to fear that you worked <every> Sunday!
[16:40] <Shiral> Nope, if I did that, I'd have to be locked into a room with soft walls, KK
[16:40] <scribbler> Mark and I will probably see some movies when he's on vacation in Sept.
[16:40] <Sedina> LOL Shiral
[16:41] <Shiral> Every other is crazy-making enough
[16:41] <scribbler> No pesky patrons today!
[16:41] * Kelos_al-Hazar wonders which arealights he can safely remove and still get the result he wishes...
[16:41] <whytcrow> getting to see grown-up movies with my husband is hard to do -- we have to pawn our son off on someone while we go out
[16:41] <Shiral> Not unless they've found out where I live
[16:41] <Shiral> You could rent him to childless couples, Jen
[16:41] <Kendall> we won't tell them if you don't Shiral
[16:41] <whytcrow> i try that, but the danger is then they want to keep him. ;)
[16:42] <whytcrow> he's too sweet!
[16:42] * the_Bee wonders what Kelos is doing. arealights?
[16:42] <Shiral> That does make it difficult
[16:42] <Kendall> and the problem with that is....
[16:42] <Shiral> I'm not about to tell, Kendall
[16:42] <whytcrow> well, he's going to Florida for two weeks to stay with grandma...that will give us some prime grown-up time alone!
[16:42] <AnnDupuis> Katherine: before we were talking about horses and the SirCam virus, I was looking for input on what *else* to put on the poster map besides the color map of the XI Kingdoms. I'll probably be printing 24" x 36", whereas the map is roughly square -- that leaves almost a foot at the bottom. I was thinking of including the XI Kingdoms poem from Camber of Culdi, and someone else suggested a "closeup" of Gwynedd, or possibly Rhemuth
[16:42] <Kendall> uh-oh batten down the hatches
[16:42] <Shiral> I'll bet it would be hard to find a baby sitter for Alaric Morgan...
[16:43] <scribbler> or Kelric....
[16:43] <Jessie> Gwynedd please
[16:43] <KK> I'll be finding out in a couple of months, I expect.
[16:43] <whytcrow> we'd have to ask Emily how hard it is to find a sitter for her version of Kelric!
[16:43] <the_Bee> good thing they had servants back then :)
[16:43] <Shiral> It would be neat to have  a street map of Rhemuth...
[16:43] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Sorry...I'm working with a 3D rendering system...arealights are kinda like stadium lights IRL... and they slow down the rendering seriously. I have six of them in the scene right now...
[16:43] <Kendall> why?
[16:43] <Shiral> Just don't give Alaric a honey jar, KK!
[16:44] <AnnDupuis> The problem with putting Gwynedd there is that the "closeup" won't be much bigger than Gwynedd itself is on the main map....
[16:44] <Jessie> ah -- k
[16:44] <Jessie> bummer
[16:44] <whytcrow> You need to do a seperate map for the closeup then -- a whole line of them... ;)
[16:44] <KK> Shiral, if I give young Alaric a nurse named Melissa, can I use the honey pot scene?
[16:44] <Kelos_al-Hazar> How about pics of the various cathedrals and holy places?
[16:44] <Shiral> Although I'm sure that he YES!!!
[16:44] <KK> Good idea, Kelos.
[16:44] <Sedina> LOL  Katherine.
[16:44] <Shiral> I mean, YES!
[16:44] * Jessie is ROTFL at shiral
[16:45] * Jessie reaches out and picks Shiral off the ceiling
[16:45] <AnnDupuis> (I can just picture Melissa's face right now.... :-)
[16:45] <Kendall> which is nothing new in this chat room!
[16:45] <KK> I'll retell the scene, of course, but the incident is priceless!
[16:45] <Shiral> Although I'm sure that ALaric will be an inventive lad who can think of PLENTY of ways to make a mess
[16:45] * Kelos_al-Hazar has wondered what the Cathedral of St. George looked like...
[16:45] <Shiral> I am historically flattered, KK <G>
[16:45] <hygilac> it is indeed!
[16:45] <Jessie> the cathedrals and holy places would be neat
[16:46] <Jessie> how about St. Neot's before it was destroyed & St. Liams
[16:46] <the_Bee> Jessicat is rotfl?
[16:46] <hygilac> Rats, here comes the storm back again!
[16:46] <KK> Seems like a suitable payback.  :-)
[16:46] <Kendall> or maybe the King's Basilca
[16:46] <Shiral> Or the cathedral in Valoret
[16:46] * Sedina thinks that if Alaric did have a nurse named Melissa as a child that would go a long way to explain the adult version of Alaric.
[16:46] <KK> Jessicat is just purring and occasionally mouthing off, if I say her name--and she's got an almost Siamese voice.
[16:46] * Jessie yes -- St. Neots & St. Liams
[16:46] <Kelos_al-Hazar> LOL!!
[16:46] <hygilac> See you all again soon, folks
[16:46] <Kendall> or the library during Kelson's time
[16:46] *** hygilac Quit (QUIT: User exited)
[16:46] <Shiral> I'd bop you with a trout, Sedina, but I feel too mellow right now. <G>
[16:46] <KK> Right on, Sedina.
[16:47] <Bynw> Ok Linda...drat missed her
[16:47] <scribbler> she's too fast for me....
[16:47] <the_Bee> what about the keeil?
[16:47] <Sedina> Shiral - I only speak the truth...  *wg*
[16:47] * Kelos_al-Hazar thinks he could do up a rendering of the keill...but isn't sure.
[16:48] <Shiral> I'd be flattered to think I shaped ALaric's early development in any way. <G> I mean, look at the man he becomes!
[16:48] <Kendall> I think you have gone over the edge, Shiral
[16:48] <Sedina> Shiral - well, you are a corrupting influence afterall. *g*
[16:48] <Kelos_al-Hazar> What I'm using is similar to the programs used for movies like Shrek and other computer-generated films...
[16:48] *** emily has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:48] <Shiral> There are a lot of places within Gwynedd that I'd love to see
[16:48] <Shiral> Hi Emily
[16:48] <emily> Hi everyone
[16:48] <Jessie> hello emily
[16:49] <Sedina> Hi emily!
[16:49] <Kendall> hey em
[16:49] <whytcrow> hey emily!
[16:49] <KK> 'Lo, Emily.
[16:49] <emily> What's up?
[16:49] * Kelos_al-Hazar mutters, glad that his plates are made by Corelle!
[16:49] <raushana> Hi emily
[16:49] <scribbler> Unrelated trivia -- the model for the Donkey in Shrek lives not too far from me....
[16:49] <Shiral> It's true, Kendall, I HAVE!
[16:49] <emily> What's this about plates?
[16:49] <the_Bee> You could make a "ward-cube altar" that moves up and down :)
[16:49] <Kelos_al-Hazar> (Just dropped another one!)
[16:49] <Kendall> lol at Kelos
[16:49] * Shiral pours KK a nice tall lemonade
[16:49] <scribbler> Hi emily!!!!
[16:50] <KK> Thankee, Shira.
[16:50] <Kendall> well folks it is time for the roast pork
[16:50] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Makes lots of noise, but no breakage...fortunately. I'm barefooted right now.
[16:50] <emily> Hi Jennifer! Do you want to get Seth and Ben together tomorrow
[16:50] * Jessie passes her virtual plate to Kendall for the roast
[16:50] <Shiral> Tell us when it's ready Kendall, and we'll come help you eat it
[16:50] * the_Bee passes around a plate of crumpets
[16:50] <emily> Kelos, Broken pottery and bare feet-very bad combination
[16:50] <Shiral> You're welcome for the lemonade, KK
[16:50] <Kendall> with steamed fresh green beans,
[16:51] * scribbler gets out the veggies and dip....
[16:51] <emily> Katherine, how were the tilers this week?
[16:51] <Sedina> green beans sound tasty...but you can keep the roast pork.
[16:51] *** Kelos_al-Hazar Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[16:51] <KK> And apple sauce?  Hafta have applesauce with roast pork.
[16:51] <whytcrow> yeah, emily -- that's definately a good plan -- you're place or mine?
[16:51] <emily> Bad peer!
[16:51] <scribbler> peer must not like pork....
[16:51] <Jessie> definitely apple sauce
[16:51] <Shiral> Oh dear, Peer is roaring along today
[16:51] <KK> You mean, the tilers who didn't?
[16:51] <Kendall> I have no idea what else my wife has cooked up
[16:51] <scribbler> Is Peer Jewish?
[16:51] <Wrengl>  And saurkraut
[16:51] <Shiral> Oh dear, KK
[16:51] <emily> Jennifer, why don't you come over here, then we don't have to worry about Chris
[16:51] <the_Bee> or spiced apples
[16:51] <Shiral> They're playing hard to get?
[16:51] <KK> I have fired the no-show, and have a new one coming tomorrow who sounds like he actually might like to work.
[16:52] <Shiral> This is great, KK
[16:52] <whytcrow> ah, yes, that works...it will have to be after rush hour is over
[16:52] <Sedina> A tiler who works... that would definitely be plus
[16:52] *** Kelos_al-Hazar has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:52] <emily> Ack! very frustrating
[16:52] <Kendall> good-bye all
[16:52] <the_Bee> good luck KK
[16:52] <Sedina> wb Kelos
[16:52] <scribbler> WB Kelos_al-Hazar!!!!
[16:52] <Shiral> Bye Kendall, WB Kelos
[16:52] <raushana> Bye Kendall
[16:52] <scribbler> night Kendall...
[16:52] <whytcrow> bye kendall
[16:52] * Kendall steps onto his Transfer Portal, winks at Jessie (wherever
she is) and disappears into thin air
[16:52] <emily> By Kelos, thanks for the feast!
[16:52] <KK> Bye, Kendall.
[16:52] <Jessie> bye kendall
[16:52] <Sedina> Bye Kendall
[16:52] *** Kendall has left #Deryni_Destinations
[16:52] <emily> Sorry, I meant Kendall, WB Kelos
[16:52] <emily> from the land of peer
[16:53] <Sedina> How can we have so many people in here and have dead silence?  *lol*
[16:53] <Jessie> Katherine:  if someone went fishing in Gwynedd -- around the time of the Coup -- would they have a "fishing pole" -- or just a string with a hook?
[16:54] <emily> Katherine, what a frustration, to being so close to finishing, and then can't get a tiler
[16:54] <emily> I hope this new one works out and does a good job.
[16:54] <KK> I think they'd have poles.  That has to have been an early discovery.  Gets the line out farther from the shore.
[16:54] <Shiral> And what would they catch? I mean would they have the fish WE know, like trout and salmon, or does Gwynedd have indigenous fish?
[16:54] <the_Bee> probably salmon
[16:54] <Shiral> I hope he shows up and gets the job done well
[16:55] <emily> Well, one would hope, that if they had trout and salmon, they would be indigenous
[16:55] <KK> We know they have some of the same fish, like salmon.  We know they have fish without eyes underground.  I 'spect they're pretty much the same--though there could be additional ones.
[16:55] <emily> or ingenious
[16:55] <whytcrow> the salmon invasion was a rather brutal one...
[16:55] <Shiral> Will Kelson and Dhugal EVER want to eat fish again? <G>
[16:55] <Michael> Didn't Alaric call goldfish to his hands? ........
[16:55] <emily> Jennifer, what time would you like to come over?
[16:55] <scribbler> brb -- my husband wants me to see if Sopranos will be on any other time than 8 tonight....
[16:56] <KK> Yep.  But not right after Lent.
[16:56] <the_Bee> ?? salmon invasion??
[16:56] <KK> We've got carp in Torenth.
[16:56] <Shiral> Ingenious fish???
[16:56] <Jessie> crappie & perch?
[16:56] <whytcrow> they were talking about the non-indigenous fish...so if they came from elsewhere, they might have invaded...
[16:56] <whytcrow> just being silly...
[16:56] <Shiral> ALaric calls fish in his pond up to the surface
[16:56] <KK> Birds, too.
[16:57] <whytcrow> Emily -- what time is good for you? Earlier or later?
[16:57] <Shiral> And the ocean fish would probably be similar
[16:57] <the_Bee> Bronwyn used to call birds.
[16:57] <emily> MOoooohaaaaa, just when you thought it was save to splash in the pond, .....
[16:57] <KK> Not out of the water, though
[16:57] <Shiral> We know they have carrier pigeons of some sort in Gwynedd
[16:57] <whytcrow> Well, if he used magic he could make them rise up out of the water.... ;)
[16:57] <KK> Do ducks count?  Speaking of whom....
[16:57] <Shiral> Stanisha catches the carp in Beldour
[16:57] <the_Bee> levitating fish!
[16:58] <Shiral> Ducks count, but I don't know if Donald will make it this week
[16:58] <Shiral> Haven't seen him around
[16:58] <KK> Didn't Morgan call deer?
[16:58] <Jessie> KK:  duck said he was going to try to make it today -- but he is out in the back of beyond -- so he wasn't sure
[16:58] <Shiral> I think Brion insinuated that he could if he chose
[16:58] <Sedina> Donald was in a little earlier this week...but only for a
short while
[16:58] <whytcrow> they said he could charm them to the gates of the city...
[16:58] <Wrengl>  Donald said he would be online at odd hours since he is on assignment Outback
[16:59] <Shiral> They'd probably have geese and swans as well
[16:59] <Shiral> And robins and finches.
[16:59] <KK> Definitely geese and swans.  I think they've graced various tables at various times.
[16:59] <emily> Jennifer, it matters not, Chris usually takes a nap in the afternoon, around 1:30, but since we're meeting at my place it's ok, I can just put him down while the boys hang out, Ben does have a swimming lesson at 5:45
[16:59] <Jessie> KK:  so what type of fish do you have in Ireland/scotland/and/or England?
[17:00] <KK> Salmon, trout, monkfish--yum!, cod....
[17:00] <AnnDupuis> Fly fishing (with a pole, lure, and "casting" technique) has been around at least 2000 years here on Earth, so is probably known in Gwynedd. :-)
[17:00] <Shiral> Monkfish -- do they come from the Abbey?
[17:00] * Shiral is having a REALLY silly vision, right now...
[17:00] <KK> Don't know, but they're uglimopotamuses.
[17:01] <KK> Sure do taste good, though.
[17:01] <emily> Well, if they are cut up and cooked, you don't really have to see them in their true form
[17:01] <whytcrow> emily:  how about 10-11ish then?  I'd have to leave by 4 to get home before traffic!
[17:01] <KK> Jessicat likes all this talk of fish.
[17:01] <emily> Jennifer, sounds great!
[17:01] * Shiral hands Jessicat a morsel of trout
[17:02] <scribbler> fish beats computers any day, huh Jessicat?
[17:02] <whytcrow> talking of food makes me hungry...wonder what's for dinner?
[17:02] <KK> Jessicat says "Mrowt!"
[17:02] <emily> My cat once got some tidbits of swordfish from my parents, spoiled her for weeks
[17:03] <AnnDupuis> There's a brief history of fly-fishing at http://homepages.enterprise.net/davefink/history.html if anyone's interested. It includes an Abbess who cast flies and wrote books on angling between prayers. (1496)
[17:03] <Shiral> A woman of many interests, no doubt <G>
[17:03] <KK> Sounds like an interesting abbess.
[17:03] <Shiral> She probably fished for monkfish
[17:03] <emily> Everytime I'd fill her dish with regular food, she'd meow, as if to say, but what about the swooooorrrrrdfffiiiiiishhhhh?
[17:03] <scribbler> it's definitely hard to do two things at once....
[17:04] <KK> Haven't ever been able to get excited about fishing, myself--other than with bow an arrow.  That was interesting.  My dad used to do it.
[17:04] * scribbler winces at Shiral's comment....
[17:04] <AnnDupuis> It's truly amazing how many interesting people (real people) you can learn about on the Internet -- and then "steal" for use in your stories. :-) I'm into Sven Hedin, Swedish Explorer, right now -- for my "Terra Incognita" victorian/pulp roleplaying game.
[17:04] <Shiral> SOrry, couldn't resist Scribbler
[17:04] <KK> LOL, Shiral.
[17:04] <Shiral> I was never patient enough for fishing
[17:04] <Sedina> A bow and arrow for fishing?  Now that has to be an interesting sight.
[17:04] <KK> Nope, not active enough for me.

(to be continued...)
