Mar 06 17:06:46 <KK>   Hi, guys.
Mar 06 17:06:51 <The_Bee>   Hi KK
Mar 06 17:07:13 <revanne>   hi Kk
Mar 06 17:07:21 <DesertRose>   Hi, KK, hi, Bee.  Sorry, I was afk.
Mar 06 17:07:24 <Evie>   hi KK
Mar 06 17:07:33 <The_Bee>   How was your week?
Mar 06 17:07:44 <Evie>   brb, goiing to turn overhead light on so I'm not typing in the dark in half an hour
Mar 06 17:08:00 <revanne>   Yes Bee,  we moved a fortnight ago and I took my first service in my new church this morning
Mar 06 17:08:00 <KK>   People obviously have forgotten that this is first Sunday.  ;-)
Mar 06 17:08:14 <KK>   Ah, you got moved ok.
Mar 06 17:08:23 <The_Bee>   I had to pull myshades to keep susnglare off my screen.
Mar 06 17:08:37 <revanne>   yes -still fighting boxes but getting there.
Mar 06 17:09:01 <KK>   You have sunglare?  Winter must be over where you are.
Mar 06 17:09:22 <Evie>   It's a gorgeous day here, so if others are similarly blessed, they might be outdoors soaking in the sun
Mar 06 17:09:29 <revanne>   haven't even got moon glare here.
Mar 06 17:09:33 <The_Bee>   not yet, but we are expecting aa warming week.
Mar 06 17:09:40 <KK>   Do you like the new church?  (Is it old and cool?  I hope the people are cool.)
Mar 06 17:09:44 *   Kelric (~IceChat78@32F4F9.AFCB16.CAC8DB.A93869) has joined
Mar 06 17:09:49 <DesertRose>   Rehi Kelric
Mar 06 17:09:53 <Evie>   I've been outdoors in short sleeves helping DH with some woodworking projects.
Mar 06 17:09:58 <KK>   Hello, Kelric.
Mar 06 17:10:16 <The_Bee>   hi kelric
Mar 06 17:11:06 <revanne>   Yes. people are friendly and there's a fair mix of people. it's very modern -built in 1982 so totally one extreme to another.
Mar 06 17:11:22 <revanne>   hi Kelric
Mar 06 17:12:04 <KK>   I can hardly even imagine what a modern-built church must look like in England.
Mar 06 17:12:16 <revanne>   I'm glad it's so different because am not tempted to compare.
Mar 06 17:12:27 <KK>   Are you the rector?
Mar 06 17:12:45 <The_Bee>   Is your father with you, Revanne?
Mar 06 17:13:05 <revanne>   I'll try and post some pics once I'm back on line with my computer.
Mar 06 17:14:12 <revanne>   I'm the Vicar because it's a new foundation. Rector's are in churches which go back into the middle ages.
Mar 06 17:15:10 <revanne>   Not yet Bee. We're picking him up from respite on Thursday
Mar 06 17:15:16 <Evie>   I was wondering what the difference was
Mar 06 17:15:17 <The_Bee>   age discrimination exists even for buildings.
Mar 06 17:15:21 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 17:15:32 <revanne>   LOL
Mar 06 17:15:34 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 17:16:28 <revanne>   it's slightly more complicated than that although that's a good shorthand.
Mar 06 17:16:37 <KK>   Ah.  I wasn't aware that was the distinction.  I thought the title of Vicar came from vicarius, because the Vicar is in charge vicariously with the authority from the bishop.  But you also don't hold your authority as literally as a rector, who receives the keys and the church deeds, etc. at his/her installation.
Mar 06 17:17:17 <revanne>   can't go into complexities typing with one finger on my phone.
Mar 06 17:17:22 <DesertRose>   :-D
Mar 06 17:17:23 <Evie>   LOL
Mar 06 17:17:54 <The_Bee>   what happened to your other nine fingers?
Mar 06 17:17:57 <KK>   lol, understood.  Another time.
Mar 06 17:18:18 <Evie>   Revanne of the One Finger, and the Phone of Dooooommmm
Mar 06 17:18:32 <The_Bee>   LOL
Mar 06 17:18:36 <DesertRose>   You should talk, Evie, of the Autocorrect from the Depths of the Netherworld.  :-D
Mar 06 17:19:01 <Evie>   You have to admit, my autocorrect has a vivid and amusing imagination
Mar 06 17:19:05 <DesertRose>   Yes, yes it does.
Mar 06 17:19:26 <DesertRose>   Sometimes the sheer absurdity is beyond all imagining.
Mar 06 17:19:30 <KK>   True enough.
Mar 06 17:19:32 <revanne>   I think that was the case in the past KK but now there's legally no distinction. I received my title deed-complete with Episcopal seal and keys just the same as when I was rector.
Mar 06 17:19:52 <Evie>   Although my favorite was when it volunteered that my parents prefer hard mistresses rather than mattresses.
Mar 06 17:19:57 <DesertRose>   ROFL, yes
Mar 06 17:20:39 <revanne>   just checked and Gollum hasn't had my fingers
Mar 06 17:20:50 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 17:20:54 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 17:21:21 <The_Bee>   :D
Mar 06 17:22:06 <KK>   Ah.  I went to the installation of our friend who was Rector of Etton (I think) with Helpston, in Yorkshire, and that was how he explained it to us.  I was impressed that he literally got the deeds and keys, and had to bang on the church door to be admitted.  It was quite an impressive ceremony.
Mar 06 17:22:26 *   Shiral (~Shiral@OWIRCN-e6adf1cc.ca.comcast.net) has joined
Mar 06 17:22:32 <DesertRose>   That sounds like that would be cool, KK.
Mar 06 17:22:32 <Evie>   hi Shiral
Mar 06 17:22:33 <DesertRose>   Hi Shiral
Mar 06 17:22:38 <Shiral>   Hello itty bitty chat bunch
Mar 06 17:22:52 <revanne>   hi Shiral
Mar 06 17:22:53 <The_Bee>   Getting the deed doesn't mean you actually own the building, does it?
Mar 06 17:23:04 <The_Bee>   Hi Shiral!
Mar 06 17:23:42 <Shiral>   Hi Bynw, DR, Evie, Kelric, KK, Revanne and Bee
Mar 06 17:23:42 <revanne>   No but I have  responsibility for it and all the appurtenances there unto
Mar 06 17:23:53 <DesertRose>   BRB, snack
Mar 06 17:24:01 <revanne>   I quote
Mar 06 17:24:07 <KK>   Yeah, our being there was a surprise to him.  We were living in Ireland, and didn't tell him we were coming; just showed up.  He saw us in the congregation when he was processing back up the aisle, and his face just lit up.
Mar 06 17:24:33 <The_Bee>   News says the CIA is hiring librarian(s).  You interested, Shiral? ;)
Mar 06 17:24:44 <Shiral>   Not particularly
Mar 06 17:24:45 <revanne>   I bet he was so delighted.
Mar 06 17:25:14 <KK>   He was.  He's American, and that was his great dream.
Mar 06 17:25:35 <Shiral>   Who is this "he" who was delighted?"
Mar 06 17:26:40 <The_Bee>   friend of KK's.
Mar 06 17:26:44 <KK>   (I also surprised a dear friend who was being ordained a rabbi; got a mutual friend to assist me in the operation.  Again, he didn't see me until he was coming down the aisle.  I love it when nefarious plans work out like that.  Sadly, he passed away far too young.
Mar 06 17:27:12 <DesertRose>   Aw, that's sad, KK.
Mar 06 17:27:17 <KK>   My friend who was installed as a rector in Yorkshire.
Mar 06 17:28:19 <revanne>   One of my colleagues up north was an American. It did seem a bit strange hearing can American accent swearing true allegiance to her Majesty's Queen Elizabeth Ii her heirs and successors. I imagined the founding father's whirling in their grsves
Mar 06 17:28:36 <Evie>   LOL
Mar 06 17:28:36 <KK>   He's now at a church in California.  They couldn't afford to live on the salary.
Mar 06 17:29:37 <revanne>   No the salary is fairly minimal
Mar 06 17:29:47 <Shiral>   Hence the saying "poor as church mice."
Mar 06 17:29:51 <DesertRose>   Indeed
Mar 06 17:30:52 <revanne>   Hopefully not mice in a modern church :)
Mar 06 17:31:07 <DesertRose>   Hopefully there are church cats to help with that problem.
Mar 06 17:31:11 <Evie>   If there are, you can bring your cats to visit
Mar 06 17:31:14 <Shiral>   Get a cat, just in case. =o)
Mar 06 17:31:17 <The_Bee>   "We want our minister poor and humble.  You keep him humble, Lord; we'll keep him poor."
Mar 06 17:31:33 <revanne>   LOL
Mar 06 17:32:44 <revanne>   our cats are being very grumpy because they're not allowed out at the moment.
Mar 06 17:32:46 <Evie>   Checking on dinner-to-be, brb
Mar 06 17:32:50 <DesertRose>   Aw, poor kitties.
Mar 06 17:33:07 <KK>   Well, they have to learn where they live now.
Mar 06 17:33:27 <KK>   What's the new house like?
Mar 06 17:33:33 <The_Bee>   afraid they'll get lost in an unfamiliar environment?
Mar 06 17:33:37 <revanne>   They sit on the window sills looking pathetic
Mar 06 17:33:53 <Shiral>   Moving is very disruptive for cats/
Mar 06 17:34:05 <Shiral>   Everything smells wrong, and you rearranged all the rooms!
Mar 06 17:34:39 <revanne>   it's very nice -large by British standards but modern and much smaller than the last one.
Mar 06 17:35:01 <KK>   Also, probably better to wait until the weather improves, before letting them out.
Mar 06 17:35:53 <revanne>   And one of the cats -Simba-wandered round with a look on his face which said :Is this all there is?
Mar 06 17:36:09 <Evie>   back
Mar 06 17:36:11 <KK>   How much smaller is it?
Mar 06 17:36:55 <Shiral>   Poor Simba will have to lower his personal space expectations?
Mar 06 17:36:55 <revanne>   Yes. I worried about traffic too as we're nearer a main road.
Mar 06 17:37:36 <Shiral>   Oh here's a pygmy lion come to say hello
Mar 06 17:37:56 <KK>   (I have a Gus on my lap.)
Mar 06 17:38:03 <DesertRose>   Hi Gus.
Mar 06 17:38:06 <The_Bee>   HI, Pygmy Lion
Mar 06 17:38:08 <DesertRose>   Carys is on the foot of my bed, napping.
Mar 06 17:38:25 <DesertRose>   Hi Pygmy Lion.  Which one is it, Shiral?
Mar 06 17:38:31 <The_Bee>   Melantha is curled up on my pillow.
Mar 06 17:38:33 <Evie>   Gigi has discovered that my lap desk upside-down makes a perfect cat bed, as there's a cushion underneath, so now I might never get it back.
Mar 06 17:38:36 <DesertRose>   Hi Melantha.
Mar 06 17:38:38 <revanne>   About 2/3 the size if you don't count the cellars and attics in the other house. if you do about 1/3 the size.
Mar 06 17:38:39 <Shiral>   Either to say hello, or say "Bowls Empty Starvation is imminent."
Mar 06 17:38:45 <Shiral>   Francesca
Mar 06 17:39:00 <DesertRose>   LOL, Shiral, I'm sure they're absolutely starving for both food and affection.  Poor deprived kittehs.
Mar 06 17:39:06 <Shiral>   But Dmitri is also present sending his mental Hungry Beams into the room
Mar 06 17:39:15 <KK>   Yike, you've lost a lot of storage space!
Mar 06 17:39:49 <The_Bee>   do you have much of a yard, Revanne?
Mar 06 17:40:00 <revanne>   Purry greetings to assorted kitties
Mar 06 17:40:11 <Shiral>   No wonder Simba thinks you're cramping his style. =o)
Mar 06 17:41:10 <revanne>   Not really. DH is delighted because it used to take him 6 hours to mow the grass.
Mar 06 17:41:41 <revanne>   Yes. Definite downsize.
Mar 06 17:42:31 <The_Bee>   looking forward to seeing pix.
Mar 06 17:42:31 <revanne>   Lots of happy charity shops  - thrift stores.
Mar 06 17:43:10 <revanne>   :)
Mar 06 17:43:21 <KK>   I was just going to ask if you'd had to purge your household goods seriously.
Mar 06 17:44:07 <Evie>   Now that you're an old hand at it, you can come over and help me purge mine.  :-D
Mar 06 17:44:30 <revanne>   Yes -not before time. DD1 is moving into an unfurnished flat so she is having some.
Mar 06 17:45:08 <KK>   You aren't moving, are you, Evie?  Or is it just that the clutter has reached critical mass?
Mar 06 17:45:08 <revanne>   LOL. First find your portal....
Mar 06 17:45:27 <Evie>   I have more stuff than I've got house.  Gotta fix that.  :-)
Mar 06 17:46:18 *   Eyikl (Mibbit@OWIRCN-91e71206.cable.earthlink.net) has joined
Mar 06 17:46:21 <The_Bee>   If it weren't for my house-cleaner, I'd have trouble finding my floor.
Mar 06 17:46:24 <Evie>   I've been decluttering in fits and starts since I left work, but since I'm doing it more or less singlehandedly, I feel like I'm drowning at times
Mar 06 17:46:25 <Shiral>   How will she be able to find more room for the Littles?
Mar 06 17:46:31 <Shiral>   Hi Eyikl
Mar 06 17:46:33 <Eyikl>   HI everyone
Mar 06 17:46:33 <The_Bee>   Hi Eyiki
Mar 06 17:46:43 <Evie>   hi Eyikl
Mar 06 17:46:56 <revanne>   Hi Eyiki
Mar 06 17:47:07 <DesertRose>   Hi Eyikl
Mar 06 17:47:10 <Evie>   I need a dedicated room for the Littles and (hopefully) to start up a home business
Mar 06 17:48:06 <Evie>   But before I can get that set up properly, I really need to get rid of a whole bunch of stuff that I don't use, don't need, and is just taking up space.
Mar 06 17:48:09 <revanne>   Fancy a vacation in UK, Shiral, classifying my books.
Mar 06 17:48:12 <KK>   What kind of home business?  Making props for littles?
Mar 06 17:48:23 <The_Bee>   What are you thinking of doing, Evie?  Something with your craft skills?
Mar 06 17:48:40 <KK>   SCA households tend to accumulate a lot of Stuff.
Mar 06 17:49:10 <Evie>   Maybe, KK.  Still in the idea exploring stage.  I don't need it to necessarily be a major money-making career, but I do need it to bring in enough income that we can pay for our needs and hopefully have enough left over for some wants.
Mar 06 17:49:32 <Evie>   And yes, if I sell goods rather than provide services, it would be craft-related
Mar 06 17:50:13 <KK>   Well, you're very good at craft-related things, and I know you enjoy it....
Mar 06 17:51:18 <revanne>   I guess it's just finding a marketable niche.
Mar 06 17:51:18 <Evie>   I've looked into things like getting a part-time job in an office, but I feel like I'd be getting back into a rut that I was desperate to escape from.  I have the office skills needed to work from home as a virtual assistant, but again, it would pay bills, but wouldn't be what I love, just want I'm fairly good at.
Mar 06 17:51:18 <The_Bee>   How long would it take to build up a reputation?
Mar 06 17:51:47 <The_Bee>   as a maker of stuff
Mar 06 17:51:48 <Evie>   So that's why I'm trying to explore what it would take for me to do stuff I love and make a living at it
Mar 06 17:53:06 <The_Bee>   set up an exhibit of your work and then accept commissions.
Mar 06 17:53:08 <Evie>   No clue, Bee. That's one of those things I'd have to explore.  One "con" is that a home business takes a lot of marketing to get word of your shop out there, and as an extreme introvert I'm not much on self-promotion, but on the other hand as a writer, I have the ability to get word out there that way
Mar 06 17:53:24 <Shiral>   HI Revanne, I've kind of blown my vacation budget with a really expensive trip to New York next month
Mar 06 17:53:33 <The_Bee>   a web page
Mar 06 17:53:34 <Evie>   A lot of home shop-owners use a blog to attract customers
Mar 06 17:53:59 <Evie>   connected to whatever online store they've set up, or at least linked to it
Mar 06 17:54:18 <revanne>   that sounds exciting Shiral
Mar 06 17:54:33 <Evie>   There's also a lot of legal and tax stuff that I'm completely ignorant about right now, so I need to read up on it
Mar 06 17:54:39 <Shiral>   Organize them by the color of the cover. Every time  a patron tries to describe a book by saying  "Well,it's blue..." I think they somehow believe we have an elf that shelves books in the blue, green, red or gray sections..  =o)
Mar 06 17:54:50 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 17:54:52 <Evie>   LOL!
Mar 06 17:55:21 <Shiral>   Despite the Nonfiction being very clearly shelved according to the Dewey Decimal System.
Mar 06 17:55:21 <revanne>   that would work for me. :D
Mar 06 17:55:33 <DesertRose>   I saw a display in my favorite local used-book shop that was labeled, "Well, the cover is blue..." and had books with blue covers in every genre known to publishing.
Mar 06 17:55:42 <Shiral>   LOL
Mar 06 17:56:06 <Shiral>   Although that would also be limiting as to what they could stock. They'd have to say "Sorry, we need to see a picture, first."
Mar 06 17:56:21 <The_Bee>   Years ago a library aide here in Mass. reshelved the books by their cover colors.
Mar 06 17:56:31 <DesertRose>   I swear I think that display was born out of dismay of the shop workers.
Mar 06 17:56:32 <Evie>   I decided to try making some homemade cold porcelain this week to see if it's something I could work with (and maybe make Mini-Deryni accessories out of).  I forgot to tell DH what the white plastic-wrapped lump in the fridge was.  He woke me yesterday morning asking, "Why is there a small, lopsided, misshapen brain in our fridge?"  :-D
Mar 06 17:56:53 <Eyikl>   I think I'd be more likely to remember random plot points than the cover of the book.
Mar 06 17:57:07 <Shiral>   LOL Well, you already work with heads, Evie, so why not brains?
Mar 06 17:57:25 <DesertRose>   That might actually get you more traction, Eyikl, because a lot of book shop workers are avid readers themselves.
Mar 06 17:57:31 <Evie>   And later that morning, "Your brain smells like vinegar."  LOL!  Thanks dear, I'll put that on my resume.
Mar 06 17:58:15 <revanne>   Yikes. Maybe it was Duncan's brain which had finally made It home.
Mar 06 17:58:23 <DesertRose>   At least, in my beloved Chamblin's (the local used book shop), they hire book lovers.
Mar 06 17:59:19 <Evie>   Yay, my rice with venison and mixed veggies is finally ready!
Mar 06 17:59:23 <DesertRose>   Yay food!
Mar 06 18:00:03 <The_Bee>   I have pot roast pot-roasting.  Time to add the veggies soon.
Mar 06 18:00:06 <KK>   With venison?  Yum!
Mar 06 18:00:36 <Shiral>   Dang, you guys are making me hungry for lunch....
Mar 06 18:00:49 <revanne>   Yum and yum.
Mar 06 18:00:54 <The_Bee>   brb
Mar 06 18:01:29 <Evie>   Yeah, we had some small bits of venison left over from DH's feast in January that have been taking up freezer space, so I put them and the mixed veggies in the steamer basket of the rice cooker, added the rice and some beef bouillon in the bottom of the pot, drizzled it all with soy sauce and a few spices, and plugged it in just before chat started
Mar 06 18:01:35 <Evie>   Dinner I don't have to mess with
Mar 06 18:01:42 <Evie>   My favorite kind
Mar 06 18:01:43 <DesertRose>   Yum!
Mar 06 18:02:05 <KK>   Sounds wonderful!
Mar 06 18:02:16 <Shiral>   We'll be right over, Evie
Mar 06 18:02:24 <Evie>   LOL!  It's pretty good.
Mar 06 18:02:52 <Evie>   although oddly enough, my favorite rice cooker dish thus far has been homemade macaroni and cheese.  :-D
Mar 06 18:03:11 <DesertRose>   You can make mac and cheese in the electric rice cooker?
Mar 06 18:03:11 <revanne>   Sleep is taking over so could you save me some for breakfast. Goodnight.
Mar 06 18:03:21 <DesertRose>   G'night, revanne.  Sleep tight!
Mar 06 18:03:23 <Shiral>   Night, Revanne. Sleep well

Mar 06 18:05:18 <Shiral>   Hello Aerlys
Mar 06 18:05:24 <KK>   You can make mac n cherese in the rice cooker?
Mar 06 18:05:41 <Evie>   Alkari hopes to rejoin us eventually, although unfortunately her mother's health is swiftly declining, so she can't right now
Mar 06 18:05:59 <Evie>   Yes, you can make a lot of stuff in the rice cooker, as long as it can be steam-cooked
Mar 06 18:06:23 *   Shiral sends some virtual flying fish into the air in Jemler's honor
Mar 06 18:06:25 <KK>   Poor Alkari's-mom.
Mar 06 18:06:40 <Evie>   I've even heard of pancake batter being steamed in a rice cooker to make a cake-shaped pancake
Mar 06 18:06:53 <KK>   How do you do mac n cheese that's steamed, not boiled?
Mar 06 18:07:39 <Aerlys>   Not as odd as cooking a fish in the dishwasher
Mar 06 18:07:54 <KK>   I've heard of that!
Mar 06 18:07:56 <DesertRose>   Cooking a fish in the dishwasher?!
Mar 06 18:08:08 <KK>   Yep.  It gets steamed.
Mar 06 18:08:23 <Evie>   I put the pasta in with water (or water with chicken bouillon flavoring stirred in for extra flavor) and cream or milk, start it cooking like I would for rice, then when it's done stir the various flavors of grated or diced cheese I have on hand until it's all soft and creamy
Mar 06 18:08:24 <KK>   Also would stink up the dishwasher
Mar 06 18:08:25 <DesertRose>   Not that I eat fish or have a dishwasher anyway, but I've never heard of that and it never would have crossed my mind.
Mar 06 18:08:27 <Aerlys>   I'm too afraid of how my dishwasher will smell after tht
Mar 06 18:08:32 <Eyikl>   Or a hot dog on a lamp cord.
Mar 06 18:08:49 <Evie>   Do a search for "rice cooker recipes." You'd be surprised what can be cooked in one
Mar 06 18:08:54 <The_Bee>   Back.  Hi, Aerlys
Mar 06 18:08:59 <KK>   How much water to pasta?
Mar 06 18:09:13 *   Aerlys waves at Bee
Mar 06 18:09:13 <Shiral>   I think I'll stick to cooking fish on the stove, thanks awfully =o)
Mar 06 18:09:18 <Evie>   Not sure.  Hang on, let me find the online recipe I usually use
Mar 06 18:09:28 <Evie>   (with frequent variations depending on what I have on hand)
Mar 06 18:10:03 <KK>   I usually do fish in the microwave.
Mar 06 18:10:15 <Shiral>   I can't remember when it was, but on "Car Talk" I once heard about cooking food on the engine manifold
Mar 06 18:10:26 <DesertRose>   Ew, why would you want to?
Mar 06 18:10:40 <Shiral>   No idea! I think it's serious "Guy cooking"
Mar 06 18:10:48 <KK>   I've hard of that, too.  Again, it gets steamed--but stinks up the engine compartment.
Mar 06 18:10:50 <Evie>   I think this is the basic recipe, but I've never made it as-is because usually I have different cheeses on hand:  http://allrecipes.com/recipe/238862/easy-rice-cooker-mac-n-cheese/
Mar 06 18:10:51 <DesertRose>   Engine oil in my hamburgers, no thanks.
Mar 06 18:10:53 <Eyikl>   Are you sure they were being seriuos?
Mar 06 18:11:10 <Shiral>   The food WAS wrapped, though. =o) But it would be sad to lose your lunch on Route 666
Mar 06 18:11:14 <Shiral>   Or even 66
Mar 06 18:11:17 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 18:11:34 <Shiral>   Darn rented fingers
Mar 06 18:11:35 <The_Bee>   I read about that many years ago.  I think you wrap it in foil.
Mar 06 18:11:40 <Evie>   Mine also uses actual dairy rather than almond milk.  And I slip in a bit of sour cream if I happen to have it, or even whipping cream
Mar 06 18:11:51 <DesertRose>   Even so, it would be surrounded by engine fumes.  YEUCH.
Mar 06 18:12:11 <Shiral>   It's not my idea of fine dining, either DR. Or even of crappy dining
Mar 06 18:12:14 <DesertRose>   No thanks.  I'll pass.
Mar 06 18:12:17 <Eyikl>   you would lose your lunch on the highway of the beast
Mar 06 18:12:25 <DesertRose>   ROFL, Eyikl
Mar 06 18:12:34 <Evie>   I basically tend to use recipes as templates that I might veer from wildly depending on what's in the fridge and pantry, but it serves to get the solid to liquids proportions and how long it should take to cook
Mar 06 18:13:00 <Evie>   LOL
Mar 06 18:13:02 <Shiral>   I think if you were driving on Rte 666, you'd have bigger problems than what to eat. =o)
Mar 06 18:13:07 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 18:13:22 <DesertRose>   And if you lost your lunch, it might be time to call a priest with exorcism training.
Mar 06 18:13:41 <Evie>   Especially if your head is spinning at the time
Mar 06 18:13:47 <The_Bee>   :O
Mar 06 18:13:49 <Shiral>   If you're driving that route, DON'T stop for lunch. =o)
Mar 06 18:13:56 <DesertRose>   Right?  :)
Mar 06 18:14:27 <Eyikl>   right
Mar 06 18:14:31 <Shiral>   Don't stop period
Mar 06 18:14:47 <The_Bee>   and stay away from thge deviled eggs
Mar 06 18:14:51 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 18:14:51 <Evie>   Is it too early for cider?  My tea's all gone.
Mar 06 18:15:25 *   The_Bee hands out flagons of hot and ccold cider.
Mar 06 18:15:32 <Eyikl>   It's never to early for cider.
Mar 06 18:15:33 <Evie>   I'm a Southern girl. It's all but required to at least have a deviled egg plate, even if one rarely makes them
Mar 06 18:15:48 *   Shiral snaps fingers and provides a virtual Tea Tray
Mar 06 18:16:11 *   DesertRose adds slices of extra sharp cheddar cheese and a box of Triscuits to the tea table.
Mar 06 18:16:14 <Shiral>   That is, a table with everything you'd want for afternoon tea
Mar 06 18:16:22 *   The_Bee sets out  a platter of doughnuts
Mar 06 18:16:27 <Evie>   YUM, Sharp Cheddar!
Mar 06 18:16:44 <Shiral>   NONE of which is prepared on Rte 666
Mar 06 18:16:48 <KK>   Scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
Mar 06 18:16:58 <DesertRose>   No, no snacks of the beast today.
Mar 06 18:16:58 <Aerlys>   We actually heated up hot dogs on the engine of our suburban once. We were travelling with the kids, got stuck somewhere, yanked out foil and DH heated them up. Not something I plan to repeat, however
Mar 06 18:17:05 <Shiral>   Great idea, KK
Mar 06 18:17:11 <Evie>   Now I'm sad, because I'm out of Cheddar, and shredded mozzarella isn't enough of a substitute
Mar 06 18:17:20 *   Shiral helps herself to a scone with jam and cream.
Mar 06 18:17:28 <DesertRose>   Aw, I'm sorry.  Virtual cheddar isn't good enough, is it?  :(
Mar 06 18:17:33 <Evie>   LOL, quick thinking, Aerlys
Mar 06 18:17:48 *   The_Bee adds honey to go with the scones.
Mar 06 18:17:52 <Evie>   It's making me want to run out to Publix, DR.  :-D
Mar 06 18:17:55 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 18:18:05 <Shiral>   Well, if you have hungry kids, necessity is the invention of parents
Mar 06 18:18:15 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 18:18:36 <Aerlys>   reminds me of a Red Green episode I saw
Mar 06 18:19:13 <Evie>   I used to iron grilled cheese sandwiches in aluminum foil in college, since I didn't have a stove
Mar 06 18:19:27 <DesertRose>   That sounds like that bit from that movie "Benny and Joon."
Mar 06 18:19:32 <Shiral>   Okay, I surrender, Pussycats. It's time to feed the Pygmy Lions
Mar 06 18:19:35 <Shiral>   BRB
Mar 06 18:19:40 <DesertRose>   Okay, feed the fuzzballs.
Mar 06 18:19:59 <Evie>   Mine are curled up on either side of me, too sleepy to be pests
Mar 06 18:20:20 <DesertRose>   Yeah, Carys is still being lazy kitteh on the bed.
Mar 06 18:20:47 <Aerlys>   found it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niegc7QcilM
Mar 06 18:22:11 <Evie>   LOL!
Mar 06 18:23:07 *   Laurna (Mibbit@OWIRCN-e847c143.res.rr.com) has joined
Mar 06 18:23:16 <DesertRose>   Hi Laurna
Mar 06 18:23:18 <Laurna>   Good day all
Mar 06 18:23:28 <Evie>   *dying at video*
Mar 06 18:23:32 <Evie>   Hi Laurna!
Mar 06 18:23:45 <Laurna>   No dying Evie
Mar 06 18:24:01 <Evie>   Everyone is probably away from the window watching the video Aerlys just posted:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niegc7QcilM
Mar 06 18:24:04 <KK>   Amazing video.
Mar 06 18:24:05 <Evie>   It's hilarous
Mar 06 18:24:11 <Evie>   hilarious, even
Mar 06 18:24:31 <The_Bee>   HI Laurna.
Mar 06 18:24:40 <Laurna>   Hi bee
Mar 06 18:24:49 <Aerlys>   They came up with some pretty crazy stuff
Mar 06 18:25:47 <Eyikl>   Hi Laurna
Mar 06 18:25:59 <Aerlys>   but I think the whipped cream would work better if you chill the tire first. :)
Mar 06 18:26:00 <Evie>   That's amazing, Aerlys.  :-D
Mar 06 18:26:02 <Laurna>   Oh dear,  I am so glad christmas is 9 months away.
Mar 06 18:26:55 <KK>   Amazing.  (We can now return to our regularly scheduled chat.)
Mar 06 18:27:03 <Aerlys>   lol
Mar 06 18:27:06 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 18:27:11 <DesertRose>   ROFL
Mar 06 18:27:19 <Shiral>   Back,
Mar 06 18:27:27 <Eyikl>   never left
Mar 06 18:27:28 <Shiral>   Hello, Laurna
Mar 06 18:27:48 <KK>   But I certainly <will> check out the rice cooker-mac n cheese.  That sounds intriguing.
Mar 06 18:27:54 <Laurna>   Hello Shiral, Eyikl  DR and KK
Mar 06 18:27:57 <Evie>   Going to get a bit more dinner on my plate and grab some cider, brb
Mar 06 18:28:37 <Shiral>   I took the time to microwave some frozen turkey meatballs. Don't know why, but I got hungry somehow.... =o)
Mar 06 18:28:48 <DesertRose>   LOL
Mar 06 18:28:50 <Evie>   I have a non-stick rice cooker, which really helps.  If yours isn't non-stick, you might want to spray it with cooking spray first
Mar 06 18:28:58 <Evie>   LOL
Mar 06 18:29:05 <Laurna>   I just made some patato/ ham soup   soo good on a cool almost rainy day
Mar 06 18:29:15 <KK>   Mine is non-stick.
Mar 06 18:29:38 <Evie>   That might be a way to use up some of the ham in our freezer
Mar 06 18:29:50 <Laurna>   Yumm
Mar 06 18:29:56 <Evie>   DH has gone a bit enthusiastic with the ham sales of late.  I have ham out the wazoo
Mar 06 18:30:16 <Shiral>   Sounds uncomfortable. =o)
Mar 06 18:30:35 <Aerlys>   lol
Mar 06 18:30:43 <Evie>   I even resorted to ham and cheese wontons recently (which turned out a lot yummier than that sounds)
Mar 06 18:31:01 <Shiral>   Ham and cheese is almost always a good marriage
Mar 06 18:31:08 <The_Bee>   even worse than crankcase oil on your roast.
Mar 06 18:31:13 <Laurna>   Just chop some patatos, onions, ham some kind of vegy stir fry. add milk and simmer for an hour.  then lots of pepper
Mar 06 18:31:26 <The_Bee>   ham and eggs
Mar 06 18:31:26 <Aerlys>   ham and sweet potato smoothie anyone?
Mar 06 18:31:52 <Evie>   You had me until you added the word smoothie.  :-D
Mar 06 18:31:59 <Laurna>   lol
Mar 06 18:32:04 <Aerlys>   (just for variety)
Mar 06 18:32:25 <Eyikl>   or ham and sweet potato soup
Mar 06 18:32:43 <Laurna>   Is everyone cold today.
Mar 06 18:33:04 <The_Bee>   not me.  warm apartment
Mar 06 18:33:06 <Shiral>   It's cool, waiting for the rain
Mar 06 18:33:11 <Eyikl>   No, I just think that would be tasty.
Mar 06 18:33:36 <Laurna>   Hehe agree shiral  The word is... waiting.
Mar 06 18:33:39 <KK>   Yes.  One of the dogs came into the office and left the door open.  Cool air rushes right up the stairs from the garage level and pours into the office.
Mar 06 18:33:54 <Laurna>   burrr KK
Mar 06 18:34:18 <Aerlys>   sun and blue sky, nut a bit cool
Mar 06 18:34:23 <Evie>   OK, I have cider now. Life is good
Mar 06 18:34:48 <Evie>   yes, it's T-shirt weather here, or was before chat started anyway
Mar 06 18:34:59 *   Aerlys is contemplating a snifter of brandy
Mar 06 18:35:02 <Eyikl>   Is it daytime where you are, Aerlys?
Mar 06 18:35:08 <Laurna>   long double shirt day today
Mar 06 18:35:08 <The_Bee>   seasonal here
Mar 06 18:35:23 <Evie>   69F right now, so probably low 70s earlier
Mar 06 18:35:27 <Aerlys>   yes, 3:35 pm
Mar 06 18:35:48 <The_Bee>   west coast then
Mar 06 18:35:55 <Aerlys>   yep
Mar 06 18:36:09 <Laurna>   I had to chase the two puppies outside, the took on look at the damp ground and balked.
Mar 06 18:36:25 <Aerlys>   juggling cranky Rhys and typing one-handed again
Mar 06 18:36:36 <Evie>   I ought to get out some spray paint or spray adhesive projects to do tomorrow, if the weather will be this good.  Not sure when we get rain and/or cold again
Mar 06 18:37:12 <Laurna>   What do you want to make?
Mar 06 18:37:41 <Aerlys>   mmm, dh is making bacon
Mar 06 18:38:06 <Aerlys>   please don't spray paint it, though
Mar 06 18:38:12 <Laurna>   lol
Mar 06 18:38:57 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 18:39:24 <Evie>   Hm, maybe I can use some of the cold porcelain I made and see if I can make miniature food with it
Mar 06 18:39:28 <Aerlys>   probably something i missed, but any word on jemler?
Mar 06 18:39:50 <Eyikl>   hmm, what sounds less appetizing, spray-painted bacon, or car mashed potatoes...?
Mar 06 18:40:00 <DesertRose>   He posted to Facebook that he was able to sit up in his wheelchair for the third day but is still in the hospital for the foreseeable future.
Mar 06 18:40:01 <Aerlys>   sounds very undernourishing, evie
Mar 06 18:40:02 <Laurna>   yikes
Mar 06 18:40:07 <Evie>   He's still in the hospital, I think, though hopefully improving. I think I saw something about him on Facebook recently, sitting up in a wheelchair
Mar 06 18:40:08 <Laurna>   to the food.
Mar 06 18:40:24 <Shiral>   Porcelain bacon...so crispy!
Mar 06 18:40:37 <Laurna>   Tell Jemler we are wishing him healthy and well.
Mar 06 18:40:40 <Evie>   LOL, for the littles!
Mar 06 18:41:30 <KK>   I pulled the door to, and a dog just came in again and opened it.  Grrr.
Mar 06 18:41:41 <Eyikl>   On the upside, porcelain bacon has a long self life.
Mar 06 18:41:42 <Laurna>   lol KK
Mar 06 18:41:45 <Laurna>   Love dogs
Mar 06 18:41:46 <Shiral>   They've mastered the door knob, KK?
Mar 06 18:41:53 <Aerlys>   ick. nothing like a black shirt covered in baby boogers. brb
Mar 06 18:42:11 <Laurna>   Good job Rhys
Mar 06 18:42:29 <Shiral>   Babies leak from one end or the other
Mar 06 18:42:59 <KK>   I just pulled it to, didn't latch it.  He pushed right past.
Mar 06 18:43:15 <Laurna>   Evie are you still enjoying retirement or looking for a new job?
Mar 06 18:43:38 <The_Bee>   "A baby is an alimentary canal with a lot of noise at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
Mar 06 18:43:53 <Evie>   Both, Laurna
Mar 06 18:44:10 <Laurna>   good Evie,  LOL bee
Mar 06 18:44:21 <Evie>   Looking for a job for the short term, but also trying to develop a home business so I won't need to work for anyone else
Mar 06 18:44:26 <Evie>   and so I can stay home
Mar 06 18:44:56 <Evie>   Unfortunately bills won't wait for me to get a home business up and running, so I'm looking for temp work, at least part time
Mar 06 18:44:58 <Laurna>   I dream of staying home.  I dream it a lot.
Mar 06 18:45:59 <Evie>   I'm reading a book right now called "Finding Your Perfect Work" that helps with figuring out what sort of work-from-home businesses might work with your particular talents
Mar 06 18:46:40 <Laurna>   Humm.  Writing? Editing? etc.
Mar 06 18:47:33 <Evie>   Also have been reading a book called "Quiet", about introversion and leadership styles, how businesses are more often than not slanted towards extroverted styles of working and don't allow for introverted styles, and it's really shedding lots of light on why I never really felt like I fit into my former job even though I made it work out for 24 years
Mar 06 18:47:43 <Aerlys>   back, with kleenex and brandy
Mar 06 18:48:09 <Eyikl>   I've heard of that book.
Mar 06 18:48:16 <Laurna>   I could read that book.
Mar 06 18:48:37 <Evie>   No, probably crafts-based, Laurna.  I want to do more writing as well, but I need something that will bring in money sooner rather than later, and the types of writing I like to do aren't likely to pay off in the short term
Mar 06 18:48:54 <Evie>   In the long term, sure, but I need to pay for my pet hobbies of eating and living indoors right now, not in a few years
Mar 06 18:50:06 <Evie>   and the sorts of writing that bring in money more quickly (such as copy writing) don't really float my boat.  I've considered doing that, but the more I explore options, the more I realize I don't want to escape one soul-draining job just to enter another one that I'm just doing to get paid.
Mar 06 18:50:17 <Shiral>   Yeah, regular meals and a roof overhead really help with morale
Mar 06 18:50:19 <Aerlys>   The Business of the 21st Century by Robert Kiyosaki
Mar 06 18:50:22 <Laurna>   Eating has become a hobby?  I like that
Mar 06 18:50:34 <Evie>   plus I'm afraid writing for survival will kill my love of writing for the joy of telling the stories.

Mar 06 18:51:24 <Aerlys>   hi jerusha
Mar 06 18:51:34 <Evie>   Writing, for me, has been an act of love.  Going to the office and working to pay bills feels more like prostitution.  :-D
Mar 06 18:51:44 <Jerusha>   Hi!  Sorry to be late - had to serve dinner
Mar 06 18:51:50 <Aerlys>   exactly right, Evie
Mar 06 18:51:59 <Laurna>   Never write for survival, Write for your self and people will follow.
Mar 06 18:52:00 <Jerusha>   Or purgatory
Mar 06 18:52:00 <KK>   I'm going to have to boogie.  Dogs need feeding, and DH is making tea noises.
Mar 06 18:52:04 <The_Bee>   Hi Jerusha
Mar 06 18:52:08 <Shiral>   Bye, KK
Mar 06 18:52:13 <Shiral>   See you next week?
Mar 06 18:52:13 <Aerlys>   bye KK
Mar 06 18:52:14 <Eyikl>   bye KK
Mar 06 18:52:16 <DesertRose>   Okay, thanks for coming to see us, KK.
Mar 06 18:52:19 <Jerusha>   Glad I got to say hi, KK
Mar 06 18:52:20 <Evie>   So if I can find a way to pay bills that I love to do, and can look forward to working, I won't feel like it's just drudgery to keep the debt collectors off my doorstep
Mar 06 18:52:32 <DesertRose>   G'night, KK!
Mar 06 18:52:32 <Laurna>   Good night KK.
Mar 06 18:52:33 <Evie>   See you later, KK
Mar 06 18:52:33 <The_Bee>   bye, KK. Thanks for coming and have a good week.

Mar 06 18:52:57 <KK>   Last episode tonight of Downton Abbey. Waaaah!
Mar 06 18:53:04 <Evie>   Noooo!
Mar 06 18:53:07 <Laurna>   YES!
Mar 06 18:53:16 <Evie>   Oh well, that will give me a chance to catch up
Mar 06 18:53:20 <Eyikl>   :'(
Mar 06 18:53:22 <Aerlys>   kinda drifted away from it
Mar 06 18:53:29 <DesertRose>   Yeah, I'm so far behind on that show it's not even funny.
Mar 06 18:53:36 <The_Bee>   never watched it.
Mar 06 18:53:42 <Jerusha>   Never had a chance to see it.
Mar 06 18:53:49 <Eyikl>   I'm behind on it too.
Mar 06 18:53:51 <KK>   Nighers, all.
Mar 06 18:53:56 <Laurna>   Oh Jerusha  I think you would love it.
Mar 06 18:53:57 <Evie>   I only watched the first two seasons.  I own Season 3, but haven't been able to bring myself to watch it yet because I already know my favorite character dies.
Mar 06 18:53:58 <DesertRose>   Will we see you next week, KK?
Mar 06 18:54:03 <Jerusha>   Would have liked to, but the male part of the household was not so inclined
Mar 06 18:54:03 <KK>   Nighters, too.
Mar 06 18:54:06 <Shiral>   I know! How will I bear Sunday nights without Downton Abbey????
Mar 06 18:54:22 <KK>   I should be here next week.
Mar 06 18:54:25 <Shiral>   I hope Edith will get her guy back, though...
Mar 06 18:54:29 <DesertRose>   Okay, awesome.  Have a good week!
Mar 06 18:54:31 <Jerusha>   Yea!
Mar 06 18:54:39 <Evie>   Have a good week, KK
Mar 06 18:54:50 <Shiral>   Bye  KK, enjoy Downton Abbey, tonight
Mar 06 18:54:51 <Laurna>   Right now I only turn on my TV one hour a week.
Mar 06 18:54:51 <Aerlys>   Finally got around to watching Sherlock
Mar 06 18:55:13 <Laurna>   So this will be my last TV for likely months to come
Mar 06 18:55:17 <The_Bee>   anyone seen Mercy Street?
Mar 06 18:55:21 <Evie>   Smaug and Bilbo fraternizing
Mar 06 18:55:23 <Aerlys>   heard of it
Mar 06 18:55:23 <Eyikl>   nope
Mar 06 18:55:27 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie
Mar 06 18:55:28 <Jerusha>   Nope
Mar 06 18:55:31 <Aerlys>   lol!
Mar 06 18:55:38 <KK>   I'm given to understand that pretty much everyone gets their happy ending, even Thomas.  And Mercy Street is so-so.
Mar 06 18:55:40 <Laurna>   I do not like it Bee
Mar 06 18:55:56 <Shiral>   I watched two episodes of Mercy Street, then gave up. Just didn't care for it
Mar 06 18:55:58 <Evie>   Haven't seen it
Mar 06 18:56:02 <Aerlys>   Even Thomas? Boo!
Mar 06 18:56:03 <The_Bee>   recorded, not watched.  drama set in Civil War hospital.
Mar 06 18:56:25 <KK>   Hey, Thomas has mellowed.  A lot.
Mar 06 18:56:31 <Shiral>   He has.
Mar 06 18:56:33 <Laurna>   Agreed
Mar 06 18:56:40 <Eyikl>   I agree, KK.
Mar 06 18:56:48 <KK>   It was a hard time for gay men.
Mar 06 18:56:50 <Aerlys>   I said I was behind
Mar 06 18:56:50 <Shiral>   Much more complex than just being a scheming jerk
Mar 06 18:57:09 <Shiral>   The life of a servant was pretty rough all around
Mar 06 18:57:35 <Shiral>   I guess they have to end Downton, or else it would have been Bates' turn to get pregnant, next time
Mar 06 18:57:36 <Laurna>   14 hour days 7 days a week
Mar 06 18:57:42 <Aerlys>   Still think of him as the scheming jerk. Sounds like they developed his character more
Mar 06 18:57:42 <Evie>   True, though when I last watched, he was still at the scheming jerk stage
Mar 06 18:58:10 <Eyikl>   yeah. Poor Daisy hasn't found anyone. (as of season 6)
Mar 06 18:58:11 <Shiral>   He's a more mellow scheming jerk, now. =o)
Mar 06 18:58:15 <KK>   At that time, life as anything but an aristo was pretty tough.  I think Anna has her baby in this last episode.
Mar 06 18:58:24 <Evie>   Imagining a pregnant Bates.  Chortling.
Mar 06 18:58:24 *   Aerlys has image of a pregnant Mr. Bates in her head
Mar 06 18:58:58 <Jerusha>   Jerusha might be glad she hasn't seen it
Mar 06 18:59:06 <Evie>   :-D
Mar 06 18:59:11 <Shiral>   I'm glad Julian Fellowes stopped locking up  Bates or Anna, though.
Mar 06 18:59:16 <DesertRose>   :)
Mar 06 18:59:18 <KK>   Not sure what will happen to her with a baby.  Our Lucy, who was just after this time-frame, left service after she got married, though she did come back to fill in when extra staff were needed.
Mar 06 18:59:19 <Eyikl>   Well I'm not sure the show would show her pregnant, as they didn't really show Sybil or Mary Pregnant/
Mar 06 18:59:24 <Aerlys>   Anyone here watch North and South? (not the civil war series)
Mar 06 18:59:49 <Jerusha>   Haven't heard of it
Mar 06 18:59:50 <Evie>   There's another North and South?
Mar 06 18:59:51 <Eyikl>   nope
Mar 06 18:59:54 <The_Bee>   no.  what's it about?
Mar 06 19:00:15 <Laurna>   That series is really good
Mar 06 19:00:17 <KK>   English Civil War.
Mar 06 19:00:24 <Eyikl>   cool
Mar 06 19:00:28 <Aerlys>   It's a victorian-era series. Give me a sec. It's very good
Mar 06 19:00:34 <Jerusha>   When would that have been?
Mar 06 19:00:39 <The_Bee>   what channel?
Mar 06 19:01:02 <Laurna>   Net flix  I also have the DVD
Mar 06 19:01:15 <KK>   Oh, maybe different from what I was thinking.
Mar 06 19:01:23 <Jerusha>   Not very good on more modern English history
Mar 06 19:01:25 <The_Bee>   thanks, Laurna
Mar 06 19:01:30 <KK>   OK, gotta dash.  See you next week.
Mar 06 19:01:31 <Eyikl>   `64`-`646.
Mar 06 19:01:40 <Aerlys>   Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe
Mar 06 19:01:42 *   KK has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
