Jan 24 19:06:51 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Jan 24 19:06:53 <Annie>   hi KK
Jan 24 19:06:59 <revanne>   hi KK
Jan 24 19:07:01 <KK>   Hello, all.
Jan 24 19:07:08 <The_Bee>   hi KK
Jan 24 19:07:12 <DesertRose>   KK, Eyikl is new.  :)
Jan 24 19:07:13 <Eyikl>   HI!
Jan 24 19:07:44 <KK>   Welcome, Eyikl!
Jan 24 19:08:05 <Evie>   Hi, KK!
Jan 24 19:08:21 <Evie>   I am just putting captions on the photos for my latest project, then I'll post the link here.
Jan 24 19:08:56 <revanne>   Hope people have had a better week than I have
Jan 24 19:09:15 <Eyikl>   :( ?
Jan 24 19:09:16 <KK>   That wouldn't be hard, in our case.
Jan 24 19:09:37 <DesertRose>   Are you totally snowed in, KK?
Jan 24 19:09:39 <KK>   You first, Revanne.
Jan 24 19:10:15 <revanne>   On Friday DS broke up with his girlfriend of 2 1/2 years and later that evening DD1 rang to say she had broken up with her boyfriend. Didn't dare ring DD2 in case it was a hat-trick.
Jan 24 19:10:33 <Annie>   Ack
Jan 24 19:10:46 <The_Bee>   ouch
Jan 24 19:11:03 <revanne>   Then Dad has not been well and we spent yesterday evening in A &E / emergency room.
Jan 24 19:11:08 <KK>   We were, but the snowplow came a few hours after the snow stopped yesterday, so we're good now. Except that he didn't go all the way to the end of the drive next door, or clear the parking spaces there by the cottage, or shovel the sidewalk leading from there to mo mother's front door, so she's still snowed in.
Jan 24 19:11:11 <Eyikl>   eep
Jan 24 19:11:24 <The_Bee>   :(
Jan 24 19:11:29 <revanne>   That's not good.
Jan 24 19:11:46 <DesertRose>   Yikes.  I hope LBM can get out soon.
Jan 24 19:11:58 <Annie>   Friend of mine in VA messaged me this morning. Says he's so over clearing snow, now.
Jan 24 19:12:24 <DesertRose>   I bet.  We even got flurries here in the (ha) Sunshine State yesterday.
Jan 24 19:12:43 <Eyikl>   You get snow in  Virgina?
Jan 24 19:12:51 <revanne>   That must be really unusual.
Jan 24 19:12:53 <The_Bee>   We missed out on most of it here.  only 6.1 inches
Jan 24 19:13:03 <revanne>   Only
Jan 24 19:13:22 <Eyikl>   Still, that sounds like a lot.
Jan 24 19:13:23 <KK>   Hmm, we had an ER adventure too, the night before the snow began, fortunately.  My mom had a serious nosebleed that she couldn't stop--her bathroom and kitchen looked like a crime scene, with all the blood--so we went to the ER to get it backed before the snow started.  At least the streets were deserted--looked like Christmas Eve, with NO traffic.
Jan 24 19:13:30 <KK>   We were in and out in less than an hour.
Jan 24 19:13:40 <DesertRose>   Well, Bee's in Massachusetts.  That's NOT a lot of snow to them.
Jan 24 19:13:51 <Annie>   Wow, KK. That sounds scary.
Jan 24 19:13:57 <DesertRose>   Your poor mom, KK!
Jan 24 19:13:57 <KK>   Two feet, here in the Shenandoah Valley.
Jan 24 19:14:20 <Eyikl>   Yeah, but if you think about the fact the snow in VA and FL, that's a lot.
Jan 24 19:14:37 <KK>   She had this happen once before, when she was still in San Francisco, and had to have an ambulance take her to the ER.
Jan 24 19:14:38 <revanne>   That's good. Dad has cellulitis which is painful but not too serious now it's being treated.
Jan 24 19:15:15 <The_Bee>   Compared to last winter, 6.1" is  a dusting.
Jan 24 19:15:34 <Annie>   6" would bring the entire UK to a standstill.
Jan 24 19:15:38 <Eyikl>   That's not hard.
Jan 24 19:15:49 <revanne>   Yes
Jan 24 19:16:10 <The_Bee>   0.8 inches crippled Washington, DC last week.
Jan 24 19:16:15 <revanne>   Although I'd rather have snow than the constant rain.
Jan 24 19:16:26 <DesertRose>   It's all what you're accustomed to and therefore equipped to handle.
Jan 24 19:16:26 <KK>   And then, last Tuesday, +Joe, the presiding bishop of the Celtic Christian Church went to the ER with pneumonia that had turned into sepsis, had a heart attack on top of that, and passed--absolutely no warning before that.
Jan 24 19:16:40 <The_Bee>   me to. I'd rather walk in snow than rain.
Jan 24 19:16:44 <revanne>   O that's awful
Jan 24 19:16:55 <KK>   His funeral was supposed to be yesterday in PA, but I learned a short time ago that it's been postponed to next Saaturday.
Jan 24 19:16:55 <Eyikl>   that's not good.
Jan 24 19:17:07 <The_Bee>   Sad news indeed.
Jan 24 19:17:21 <Eyikl>   Is he from PA?
Jan 24 19:17:30 <DesertRose>   I saw that on Facebook.  I think Sharon/Jasta posted about it.
Jan 24 19:18:12 <KK>   AND, Scott's mom passed away last weekend, after 12 years of battling Alzheimer's.  It was a blessing, as she hadn't recognized any family for about 5 years, and had no quality of life, but it's still sad.
Jan 24 19:18:30 <DesertRose>   Oh, geez.  What a rough week.
Jan 24 19:18:35 <The_Bee>   sad, but also a relief
Jan 24 19:18:36 <DesertRose>   Let Scott know we're thinking of him.
Jan 24 19:18:39 <revanne>   Yes
Jan 24 19:18:50 <Evie>   So sorry, KK
Jan 24 19:19:02 <Annie>   That's a heck of a week, all right.
Jan 24 19:19:13 <The_Bee>   Sympathy to Scott and you.
Jan 24 19:19:14 <revanne>   Alzheimer's is horrid because there's a sort of delayed grief.
Jan 24 19:19:15 <KK>   And this is on top of losing Alan Rickman & David Bowie.  Dropping like flies.
Jan 24 19:19:38 <The_Bee>   Musicians are feeling their mortality.
Jan 24 19:19:54 <DesertRose>   Glenn Frey too (of the Eagles)
Jan 24 19:20:10 <Evie>   Yes, another actor gone who would have made an excellent Deryni if we can ever get a Deryni movie made
Jan 24 19:20:12 <revanne>   My DH who is 70 this year says that almost everyone who dies is younger than him Which is an exaggeration but too many too young.
Jan 24 19:20:48 <revanne>   I still think Alan Rickman would have made a wonderfully ambiguous Warin.
Jan 24 19:21:08 <DesertRose>   My mother's younger brother looks a bit like Alan Rickman did.  :)
Jan 24 19:21:27 <KK>   Yes, he would have done.  Or any of a number of other characters, he was so versatile.
Jan 24 19:21:37 <DesertRose>   He was wonderfully talented.
Jan 24 19:21:53 <revanne>   Am now imagining your uncle as the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Jan 24 19:21:53 <KK>   We watched Galaxy Quest last night, in his honor.  One of his less lauded but wonderful roles.
Jan 24 19:22:08 <DesertRose>   No, imagine Rickman out of character makeup.  :)
Jan 24 19:22:18 <revanne>   LOL
Jan 24 19:22:23 <Evie>   Sorry for being so quiet; was captioning photos, but now ready to share https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/zyTA7U .  And yes, I love Galaxy Quest!
Jan 24 19:22:49 <DesertRose>   Rickman's natural hair color was kind of a dark blond, and my uncle has gone completely white (like my grandfather before him), and the facial features are somewhat similar.
Jan 24 19:25:05 <revanne>   You have amazing patience Evie. Micro Duncan looks very comfy.
Jan 24 19:25:08 <Evie>   As everyone goes silent....  LOL!  Or is it just on my end, and should I kick my IRC Client?
Jan 24 19:25:10 <KK>   Evie, that's wonderful!
Jan 24 19:25:11 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:25:25 <revanne>   We're looking at the pics
Jan 24 19:25:39 <Eyikl>   Nice
Jan 24 19:25:54 <Evie>   Thank you! I have always wanted a roombox, but don't have space for one, so when i found that watch box, I decided Lego Duncan needed a bedchamber.  :-D
Jan 24 19:25:56 *   Shiral (~Shiral@OWIRCN-e6adf1cc.ca.comcast.net) has joined
Jan 24 19:26:04 <revanne>   Hi Shiral
Jan 24 19:26:08 *   Shiral blows in in a cloud of snow
Jan 24 19:26:14 <Shiral>   Hi all
Jan 24 19:26:24 <Evie>   (Duncan is my favorite Deryni, Eyikl, if you're wondering why I picked him to build the room for.)
Jan 24 19:26:30 <KK>   Hi, Shiral.
Jan 24 19:26:38 <Shiral>   Hi KK
Jan 24 19:26:45 <The_Bee>   Hi Shiral
Jan 24 19:26:47 <Evie>   Hi, miniature house builder!  I just made a mini-room.  https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/zyTA7U
Jan 24 19:26:54 *   revanne hastily mulls some wine or cider for those that prefer.
Jan 24 19:27:01 <KK>   Evie, he needs a cross on the wall above his prie-dieu.  And maybe a Psalter or some other book.
Jan 24 19:27:04 <Evie>   Ooh, mulled cider!
Jan 24 19:27:11 <Evie>   Yes, that's in the plan
Jan 24 19:27:21 <revanne>   hands Shiral a hot flagon to warm her hands
Jan 24 19:27:26 <Annie>   Mulled wine. Nom.
Jan 24 19:27:29 <Eyikl>   cider
Jan 24 19:27:30 <Evie>   I have to find a little cross with an adhesive back, or at least one that's not obviously a pendant
Jan 24 19:27:32 <Shiral>   The mini house builder is starting the drawings for a new chateau. A nice little country place somewhere in Bremagne, you know
Jan 24 19:27:35 <KK>   Mini rooms like that are within just about everyone's ability--and space constraints.
Jan 24 19:27:52 <DesertRose>   Hi Shiral.
Jan 24 19:27:59 *   Shiral adds hot freshbaked shortbread cookies
Jan 24 19:28:09 <DesertRose>   Sorry, I was in another window admiring Evie's room-for-Micro-Duncan
Jan 24 19:28:14 <DesertRose>   Yum!
Jan 24 19:28:14 <KK>   Could even be a wooden one.
Jan 24 19:28:17 *   The_Bee sets out donuts for anyone who's hungry.
Jan 24 19:28:18 <Shiral>   Hi Annie, Evie, Eyikl, Revanne and the Bee
Jan 24 19:28:23 *   DesertRose adds chocolate chip cookies.
Jan 24 19:28:24 <Evie>   It's especially easy if you've got the wood cutter tool that I have.  It cuts through the craft sticks like butter.  I forget what it's called, but I found it at Hobby Lobby.
Jan 24 19:28:26 <revanne>   which revanne dunks into her mulled cider
Jan 24 19:28:36 <Eyikl>   How long did it take you to make?
Jan 24 19:28:37 <Annie>   Hi, Shiral.
Jan 24 19:29:15 <Evie>   Most of one evening
Jan 24 19:29:20 <Evie>   It's still a work in progress
Jan 24 19:29:21 <KK>   Gus has just come in, cold-coated from going outside for his cat business.  Snuggly warm on my lap now.
Jan 24 19:29:30 <DesertRose>   Hello Gus.
Jan 24 19:29:36 <revanne>   Hi Gus
Jan 24 19:29:51 <DesertRose>   Carys is being a gray-tabby headrest.  She likes to station herself on the back of my desk chair.
Jan 24 19:29:58 <Evie>   I want to add a tiny cross, a candle sconce, some sort of book on the prie-dieu, a tapestry (I have a wide ribbon with a labyrinth print woven in)
Jan 24 19:30:00 <Eyikl>   Hi Gus. Wow.
Jan 24 19:30:03 <Shiral>   Nice little monastic cell. The former Duke of Cassan certainly lives modestly. Of course, he IS a Lego
Jan 24 19:30:05 <Evie>   and maybe a tiny clothing chest
Jan 24 19:30:26 <revanne>   Cassie - canine not feline - is wondering why I am up so late but enjoying being around a human at this hour.
Jan 24 19:30:32 *   Shiral reaches out to give Gus an ear scritchie
Jan 24 19:30:50 <Evie>   This may be his room at the Schola.  He probably has more palatial rooms at the Cathedral.  ;-)
Jan 24 19:31:32 <revanne>   Yes - I don't imagine Duncan as being especially austere.
Jan 24 19:31:34 <Shiral>   Or the Archbishop's Palace, since they probably don't sleep IN the Cathedral
Jan 24 19:31:38 <Evie>   At least on the poster map, he's got his own tower
Jan 24 19:32:22 <revanne>   A sleeping Bishop would be a bit unnerving for any would be worshippers
Jan 24 19:32:29 <DesertRose>   LOL, indeed.
Jan 24 19:32:31 <Evie>   Yes, I meant the Cathedral in the larger sense, meaning the Palace end of the complex.  :-)
Jan 24 19:32:37 <Shiral>   =o)
Jan 24 19:32:45 <Shiral>   I know, me and my literal mind
Jan 24 19:32:49 <revanne>   ;)
Jan 24 19:33:02 <Shiral>   KK, you staying warm and the lights are staying on at your house?
Jan 24 19:33:52 <KK>   Yep.  This has been a fluffy, dry snow, so no building up of weight to take down power lines.
Jan 24 19:34:09 <Evie>   You'll notice even in this modest little chamber, that's a fairly fancy bedcover, revanne.  ;-)
Jan 24 19:34:35 <DesertRose>   I heard yesterday that there were a lot of people without power.
Jan 24 19:34:42 <Shiral>   Well of course you must have power since you're in chat.  But it might be Bassett Powered. (Picture a hamster's exercise wheel built big enough for a team of Bassetts)
Jan 24 19:34:50 <Evie>   LOL
Jan 24 19:34:52 *   Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-f4849f4d.dsl.bell.ca) has joined
Jan 24 19:34:56 <Evie>   hi Jerusha
Jan 24 19:34:56 <DesertRose>   Hi Jerusha.
Jan 24 19:35:00 <The_Bee>   hi jerusha
Jan 24 19:35:01 <Shiral>   Hi Jerusha
Jan 24 19:35:10 <Jerusha>   Hi Everyone!
Jan 24 19:35:13 <revanne>   Yes - I admired the bedcover
Jan 24 19:35:18 <revanne>   hi Jerusha
Jan 24 19:35:28 <Jerusha>   Sorry to be late, but the chicken had to go back into the oven
Jan 24 19:35:30 <Evie>   speaking of snow....
Jan 24 19:35:34 <Eyikl>   lol
Jan 24 19:35:45 <DesertRose>   Jerusha is in Canada, so she knows snow.  :)
Jan 24 19:35:48 <Shiral>   "Bad Chicken! Back into the oven with you!"
Jan 24 19:35:49 <Evie>   "Bad chicken, back to the oven for you!"
Jan 24 19:35:58 <Evie>   ROFL!
Jan 24 19:35:58 <Jerusha>   Oh yeah!
Jan 24 19:36:00 <revanne>   LOL
Jan 24 19:36:01 <Annie>   I read that as children at first glance.
Jan 24 19:36:03 <Shiral>   LOL we think far too much alike, Evie
Jan 24 19:36:08 <DesertRose>   O.o Annie.
Jan 24 19:36:11 <DesertRose>   I hope not!
Jan 24 19:36:15 <Evie>   That's truly scary, Shiral!l
Jan 24 19:36:27 <Jerusha>   Well, let me think about that :)
Jan 24 19:36:28 <Eyikl>   maybe that why the chicken crossed the road...
Jan 24 19:36:33 <Evie>   LOL
Jan 24 19:36:34 <Shiral>   I know thousands of miles but the same thoughts seconds apart!
Jan 24 19:36:54 <revanne>   It's past midnight in the UK. A time for scary stories
Jan 24 19:36:59 <Evie>   We're doing that Deryni mind thing again
Jan 24 19:37:09 <DesertRose>   We seem to have mind-speech well under control.  If only we could sort out Portal construction...
Jan 24 19:37:22 <Shiral>   That's quite a range overwhich to be en rapport
Jan 24 19:37:40 <Eyikl>   Don't you need a lot of people for that?
Jan 24 19:37:45 <Evie>   Yes, could we get right on that?  I want to spend winters with DR in Florida and tea time in the UK with revanne and Demercia
Jan 24 19:37:52 <Shiral>   Well... we do have a few chatters.
Jan 24 19:37:57 <Jerusha>   Sign me up
Jan 24 19:38:00 <DesertRose>   Well, yes, but we also need to know HOW to do it.  :)
Jan 24 19:38:06 <Jerusha>   Especially the winter in Florida part
Jan 24 19:38:23 <Evie>   I hope you'll pardon me for not wanting to drop by and visit you until summer, Jerusha. ;-)
Jan 24 19:38:35 <DesertRose>   Y'all in more northern parts are going to laugh, but we had flurries yesterday.  People were losing their minds.
Jan 24 19:38:35 <Eyikl>   Yeah, but not in the same place. We'd have to all fly somewhere and meet.
Jan 24 19:38:38 <Shiral>   I'd love to go to tea in the UK, but perhaps it will be wisest to wait for Spring for that
Jan 24 19:38:39 <Jerusha>   But then, there would be the mosquitoes
Jan 24 19:39:00 *   revanne reminds self to wash the china teacups
Jan 24 19:39:05 <Shiral>   So the binary is Snow or Mosquitoes?
Jan 24 19:39:08 <Jerusha>   And black flies
Jan 24 19:39:28 <Eyikl>   People in PA were quite worried about two feet of snow as well. Even after last winter.
Jan 24 19:39:29 <DesertRose>   What's the best time of year to visit you, Jerusha?
Jan 24 19:39:29 <Jerusha>   It is a very short time between freezing and being eaten
Jan 24 19:39:43 <Shiral>   Spring! Don't blink you'll miss it!
Jan 24 19:39:43 <Jerusha>   August/September
Jan 24 19:39:49 <DesertRose>   Ah, fall color?
Jan 24 19:39:50 <KK>   Biting black flies?  Yuck!
Jan 24 19:39:58 <Evie>   I'd be really worried about two feet of snow, but then again, I'm in Alabama....
Jan 24 19:40:04 <Jerusha>   Less bloodletting
Jan 24 19:40:15 <Shiral>   Likewise, although we're grateful for all the rain this year
Jan 24 19:40:21 <revanne>   DH and I are planning to make it to Canada this Fall
Jan 24 19:40:23 <Jerusha>   Great bonfires, though
Jan 24 19:40:35 <DesertRose>   Two feet of snow would be the apocalypse here, but I'm in Florida, so we really would lose our collective minds.
Jan 24 19:40:40 <KK>   Two feet of snow is nothing to sneeze at.  (Actually, folk do quite a bit of sneezing with that amount of snow.)
Jan 24 19:40:41 <Jerusha>   Really? Where, Revanne?
Jan 24 19:40:55 <Jerusha>   Where in Canada, I meant
Jan 24 19:41:06 <Shiral>   I'm sneezing with no snow in sight. But that's the last of my winter cold
Jan 24 19:41:07 <Evie>   You're going to be on this side of the Pond, revanne?  Cool!  Wave in this general direction as you fly past.
Jan 24 19:41:30 <revanne>   Not entirely sure yet. i have family in Calgary and DH wants to do the train ride through the Rockies and then to Vancouver Island.
Jan 24 19:41:47 <revanne>   It's for his 70th birthday
Jan 24 19:41:49 <DesertRose>   That's a long train ride.
Jan 24 19:41:52 <Eyikl>   no, but it's not like the six or seven it felt like we got last year
Jan 24 19:41:53 <Jerusha>   That would be a great trip, revanne
Jan 24 19:42:17 <The_Bee>   long ride, but beautiful scenery, I hear.
Jan 24 19:42:20 <revanne>   Yes - once we've sorted our move in a month or so we can get planning
Jan 24 19:42:23 <Jerusha>   I have an uncle and aunt in Calgary
Jan 24 19:42:40 <Jerusha>   Well, actually DH's
Jan 24 19:42:57 <revanne>   I have about 7 second cousins who were very hospitable to DS when he went
Jan 24 19:43:08 <DesertRose>   :)
Jan 24 19:43:41 <revanne>   DH planned to go to Canada in 1982 but I captured him instead!
Jan 24 19:43:42 <Evie>   For years, DS thought Christ died at Calgary, and that the Canadian place was just named for the original. LOL
Jan 24 19:43:43 <Jerusha>   I know of a little place in northern Ontario with a Bunkie that takes guests
Jan 24 19:43:58 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie.
Jan 24 19:44:06 <Jerusha>   Well done, revanne
Jan 24 19:44:10 <KK>   That train ride sounds wonderful!
Jan 24 19:44:12 <revanne>   I wonder where that would be..:)
Jan 24 19:44:13 <Shiral>   Just slightly confused, perhaps Evie? =o)
Jan 24 19:44:23 <Jerusha>   Can't imagine
Jan 24 19:44:40 <Evie>   I said, "No, son, that was Calvary!" and he looked even more confused and said "I thought that was horses?"
Jan 24 19:44:48 <revanne>   LOL
Jan 24 19:44:50 <The_Bee>   LOL
Jan 24 19:44:55 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:45:02 <Jerusha>   Nothing like a great Calvary charge
Jan 24 19:45:10 <Annie>   LOL!
Jan 24 19:45:13 <KK>   Don'tcha love the English language?!
Jan 24 19:45:26 <Annie>   DD's best one was her first year at school.
Jan 24 19:45:31 <DesertRose>   "Dearest creature in creation, study English pronunciation..."
Jan 24 19:45:38 <Annie>   They did the nativity play before they stopped for Christmas.
Jan 24 19:45:52 <Annie>   And she was full of the wise men and the shepherds and all.
Jan 24 19:46:10 <Evie>   What makes this even sadder was that this wasn't when he was a little kid, this was just this past year!  I was watching the Brendan Gleeson movie "Calvary," which his brain auto-translated as "Cavalry," leading him to utter confusion as to why the movie was named that.
Jan 24 19:46:11 <Annie>   And then started back after Christmas. First day back, I picked her up.
Jan 24 19:46:42 <Annie>   And she said with great indignation, "Did you know, Mummy? The wise men didn't get there till JANUARY!"
Jan 24 19:46:51 <revanne>   LOL
Jan 24 19:46:55 <DesertRose>   LOL, Annie.
Jan 24 19:46:59 <Jerusha>   Smart DD
Jan 24 19:46:59 <Evie>   LOL
Jan 24 19:47:01 <KK>   LOL.  Love it.
Jan 24 19:47:10 <Eyikl>   More like a Calvary change in this case.
Jan 24 19:47:13 <Shiral>   They didn't stop and ask for directions, clearly.  =o)
Jan 24 19:47:21 <Jerusha>   Men!
Jan 24 19:47:22 <Evie>   Well, they WERE men
Jan 24 19:47:24 <The_Bee>   Well, they had to come a long way, by camel or horse.
Jan 24 19:47:25 <Annie>   They had clearly done the whole Epiphany thing when they got back. ;)
Jan 24 19:47:28 <KK>   Well, of course not.  THey were men.
Jan 24 19:47:33 <DesertRose>   The one of mine that still makes me cringe is my mispronunciation of "epitome."  I used the word correctly as far as meaning went but totally hosed the pronunciation.
Jan 24 19:47:37 <revanne>   I'm glad that didn't point out that it was actually two years or so late. That would have really upset her.
Jan 24 19:47:43 <Shiral>   Celestial navigation clearly takes more time
Jan 24 19:47:44 <Annie>   LOL
Jan 24 19:48:00 <DesertRose>   I was about twelve at the time.
Jan 24 19:48:07 <revanne>   And they did ask for directions - from a homicidal maniac!
Jan 24 19:48:30 <Evie>   I was in my twenties before I finally realized "segue" is "segway" and not "seeg."
Jan 24 19:48:31 <revanne>   I can never work out what was wise about asking Herod where the new king was?
Jan 24 19:48:43 <DesertRose>   Yeah, not so wise, Wise Men.
Jan 24 19:48:44 <KK>   Yeah, I guess they did.
Jan 24 19:48:45 <Shiral>   Tactical error
Jan 24 19:49:03 <The_Bee>   They were out-of-towners; they didn't know Herod's reputation.
Jan 24 19:49:22 <Eyikl>   Wouldn't they have been in Egypt by that time anyway?
Jan 24 19:49:23 <Shiral>   The three wise women would have asked for directions, brought useful gifts and helped to deliver the Baby
Jan 24 19:49:38 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:49:40 <revanne>   Indeed.
Jan 24 19:49:43 <Evie>   "Let's ask the local king where the new baby King is, that shouldn't cause any problems."
Jan 24 19:50:02 <Shiral>   Although in the carols "Diapers, little clothes and blankets"  would have sounded less poetic than "Gold Frankincense and Myrrh"
Jan 24 19:50:03 <Eyikl>   Hey man, have you seen a messiah?
Jan 24 19:50:04 <Jerusha>   Diaper, baby wipes and a soother
Jan 24 19:50:21 <Jerusha>   Even less poetic
Jan 24 19:50:22 <KK>   My worst public humiliation was in high school, when I had to read a passage aloud about somebody named Freud--only, I didn't yet know about German pronunciation.  I knew who ie was; just had never associated the spoken name with the one on the page.
Jan 24 19:50:23 <DesertRose>   Or covered dishes so Mary didn't have to cook again anytime soon.
Jan 24 19:50:53 <Shiral>   Oh, that sounds like a tough day in class, KK
Jan 24 19:50:55 <Jerusha>   So how did that come out, KK?
Jan 24 19:51:14 <KK>   I was laughed at.  You all know the drill, I'm sure.  ;-)
Jan 24 19:51:14 <DesertRose>   At least my "epitome" foul-up was witnessed only by my mother.
Jan 24 19:51:31 <Jerusha>   Oh yeah
Jan 24 19:51:42 <DesertRose>   Who did laugh, but then corrected me and told me it was Greek and different phonetics applied
Jan 24 19:51:43 <revanne>   I can't pronounce inestimable for some reason and there's one prayer that has it in. When I have to read that the word jumps out of the page several lines before and starts pulling faces at me. "You'll get me wrong! You know you will!"
Jan 24 19:51:55 <The_Bee>   I say "ee-PIT-o-mee."   How do you say it?
Jan 24 19:52:05 <DesertRose>   That's correct, Bee.
Jan 24 19:52:09 <revanne>   the same.
Jan 24 19:52:14 <Shiral>   Good old Sigmund Free-ud!"
Jan 24 19:52:17 <Jerusha>   I would have said ep-tome
Jan 24 19:52:24 <The_Bee>   or Frood.
Jan 24 19:52:26 <DesertRose>   I screwed up at age 12 and pronounced it "EP-i-tome"
Jan 24 19:52:28 <KK>   I said Frood.
Jan 24 19:52:39 <Eyikl>   I actually learned that word from a Calvin and Hobbes strip.
Jan 24 19:52:57 <Shiral>   It's a name that could make a person wonder what the best way was to mispronounce it
Jan 24 19:53:05 <Evie>   LOL
Jan 24 19:53:19 <Jerusha>   For a while I thought "nowhere" was "now-here"
Jan 24 19:53:41 <Evie>   That's sort of the opposite of nowhere, isn't it?  :-D
Jan 24 19:53:45 <revanne>   reasonable
Jan 24 19:53:52 <Jerusha>   Made sense at the time
Jan 24 19:54:25 <DesertRose>   The word that still screws me up (though thankfully it isn't one in common use) is metastasis.
Jan 24 19:54:33 <Evie>   My best friend refers to his former business colleagues as cow-orkers rather than co-workers
Jan 24 19:54:43 <Evie>   but quite deliberately
Jan 24 19:54:44 <The_Bee>   My high school chemistry teacher prononunced Lavoisier as La-VOY- i-er.  Whan someone corrected him, he said, "I don't see any W."
Jan 24 19:54:50 <KK>   I rather like cow orkers.
Jan 24 19:55:15 <Jerusha>   Has a definite ring to it
Jan 24 19:55:24 <Annie>   Time for me to turn in. Is it an early week next week?
Jan 24 19:55:30 <Jerusha>   Or a bell
Jan 24 19:55:32 <DesertRose>   No, week after.
Jan 24 19:55:35 <Shiral>    Sounds like a dairy run by orcs, to me!
Jan 24 19:55:43 <Eyikl>   lol
Jan 24 19:55:46 <The_Bee>   two weeks. naect sunday's Jan 31.
Jan 24 19:55:47 <Annie>   Okay
Jan 24 19:55:54 <revanne>   It's not really a Britishism and Co-workers threw me for a bit when I first came across it.
Jan 24 19:55:55 <Annie>   Ah yes.
Jan 24 19:55:55 <Evie>   I think next Sunday is the 31st, so still in January
Jan 24 19:56:08 <Shiral>   Yup
Jan 24 19:56:18 <KK>   So, two weeks, Annie.
Jan 24 19:56:19 <DesertRose>   Eyikl, the first Sunday of each month, we do chat two hours earlier than usual, to allow the UK/European fans to come visit.
Jan 24 19:56:22 <Annie>   My PC has ticked over to the 25th already, so I was doing 25+7 instead of 24+7
Jan 24 19:56:32 <Evie>   It's not Dutch either, but he had fun appropriating it nonetheless  :-D
Jan 24 19:56:40 <Eyikl>   Or a dairy ruined by orcs.
Jan 24 19:56:44 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:56:50 <Annie>   Night all.
Jan 24 19:56:51 <Annie>    :)
Jan 24 19:56:55 <revanne>   yes - I need to head to bed too.
Jan 24 19:56:55 <Shiral>   Yes. I don't imagine the cows would have lived all that long.
Jan 24 19:56:56 <DesertRose>   G'night, Annie.
Jan 24 19:56:57 <Jerusha>   Nighters Annie
Jan 24 19:56:58 <Shiral>   Night, Annie
Jan 24 19:57:01 <Evie>   Even though a few like Annie and revanne turn into night owls and come to the regular chat time on occasion
Jan 24 19:57:01 <DesertRose>   G'night, revanne.
Jan 24 19:57:02 <The_Bee>   nighters,  Annie
Jan 24 19:57:02 <revanne>   Night Annie
Jan 24 19:57:02 <Annie>   Hope this week is better for everyone.
Jan 24 19:57:04 <KK>   Have a good sleep, Annie.
Jan 24 19:57:08 <Jerusha>   Night revanne
Jan 24 19:57:14 <Annie>   Easier now DD isn't in school!
Jan 24 19:57:15 <Annie>   :)
Jan 24 19:57:18 <Annie>   Night.
Jan 24 19:57:24 *   Annie has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Jan 24 19:57:24 <KK>   Night, Revanne.
Jan 24 19:57:26 <Eyikl>   goodnight
Jan 24 19:57:27 <Evie>   Well, at least not in school THERE
Jan 24 19:57:35 <Shiral>   Night, Revanne
Jan 24 19:57:44 <The_Bee>   goodnight, Revanne
Jan 24 19:57:46 <Evie>   Goodnight, over-the-pond-people
Jan 24 19:58:13 <DesertRose>   I missed the N in pond at first and thought you were calling them Pod-people.
Jan 24 19:58:18 *   revanne waves sleepily.
Jan 24 19:58:30 <Shiral>   "The People who Lived OVer the Pond..."
Jan 24 19:58:31 <revanne>   night - off to find my pod
Jan 24 19:58:34 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:58:49 <DesertRose>   I'm the one who calls my daughter the Podchild.
Jan 24 19:58:57 <Shiral>   Sounds like a silly horror movie
Jan 24 19:58:59 <Jerusha>   :)\
Jan 24 19:59:05 *   revanne has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Jan 24 19:59:06 <Eyikl>   sings "over the pond and far away"
Jan 24 19:59:08 <DesertRose>   LOL
Jan 24 19:59:09 <Evie>   Alkari dropped me a line a short while back, btw.  She says to say Hi to everyone, but unfortunately most of the chat times conflict with when she is taking care of her mum, IIRC
Jan 24 19:59:25 <Jerusha>   How is her mum doing?
Jan 24 19:59:27 <Evie>   LOL @ Pod-people
Jan 24 19:59:28 <The_Bee>   :(
Jan 24 19:59:39 <DesertRose>   Oh yes, she did say that.  I forgot totally to pass that along.  Space cadet, I am.
Jan 24 19:59:45 <Evie>   I think she's OK, but haven't heard since before Christmas
Jan 24 20:00:24 <The_Bee>   If you hear from Alkari again, tell her we miss her.
Jan 24 20:00:25 <DesertRose>   It seems like her mum had some broken bone or something that caused a lot of trouble.
Jan 24 20:00:34 <Eyikl>   ouch
Jan 24 20:00:36 <Jerusha>   Ouch
Jan 24 20:01:12 <Evie>   IIRC, her mum is recovering, but as she's aging, Alkari is moving into more of a caretaker mode.
Jan 24 20:01:21 <DesertRose>   And her mum is not so young anymore so she didn't heal as quickly as a younger person.
Jan 24 20:01:52 <Jerusha>   Makes it that much harder
Jan 24 20:01:57 <DesertRose>   Yup
Jan 24 20:02:21 <Evie>   My baby boy just turned 21 this week, which seems impossible
Jan 24 20:02:39 <Shiral>   Tempus keeps on fugit-ing, though
Jan 24 20:02:42 <KK>   I can identify with that.  Mine will be 91 in July, and her energy level is just fading.
Jan 24 20:03:04 <Eyikl>   tis unfortunate that people heal slower as they get older.
Jan 24 20:03:06 <Jerusha>   My Dad is 97 - mind is not as sharp as it once was
Jan 24 20:03:11 <Evie>   Did a double take there.  I thought for a sec you meant that Cameron was turning 91!  :-D
Jan 24 20:03:14 <DesertRose>   The daughter of one of my SCA friends is taller than I am now.  I told her that her dad has to stop feeding her, because the last time I saw her, I had several inches of height on her.
Jan 24 20:03:27 <The_Bee>   My older sister kept Mom in her home until a few weeks before she died.  i din'tenvy her the responsibility.
Jan 24 20:03:35 <Shiral>   Mine was 85 last August. Still taking life on two wheels. And still complains of being busy. Of course, everyone at Channing House wants her on THEIR committee
Jan 24 20:03:37 <Jerusha>   Children do that when you feed them.  :)
Jan 24 20:04:04 <DesertRose>   Yup, and I don't think I've ever met her mother, but her dad is well past 6 feet tall, so she got some very tall genes.
Jan 24 20:04:04 <Shiral>   Cameron is just growing up so fast..now he's older than we are!
Jan 24 20:04:21 <Eyikl>   Sometimes. Unless one of their parents is 5'' even.
Jan 24 20:04:27 <DesertRose>   The child is question is about 15.
Jan 24 20:04:54 <Evie>   That sounds like my Mom, Shiral, although she's slowed down in the past year due to some joint pain and a knee issue.  But just a few years ago her doctor had to tell her she was too old to be kickboxing for exercise.  :D
Jan 24 20:05:14 <Jerusha>   Kickboxing??!!\
Jan 24 20:05:23 <Jerusha>   Wow
Jan 24 20:05:50 <KK>   I think I'd better head out.  It doesn't look like the plow guy is going to get here tonight, so I need to cancel Mother's caregiver, who normally arrives at 7 but won't be able to get to the front door tomorrow.  Grrr!
Jan 24 20:05:55 <DesertRose>   My mom looked into that Silver Sneakers exercise thing and had to laugh, because it involves seated exercise.  Mom has an elliptical crosstrainer in the living room that she uses more days than not; Silver Sneakers is quite a few steps below her level.
Jan 24 20:06:00 <DesertRose>   Oh, no, KK.  That's aggravating.
Jan 24 20:06:01 *   Shiral2 (~Shiral@OWIRCN-e6adf1cc.ca.comcast.net) has joined
Jan 24 20:06:09 <Evie>   She was participating in Zumba at her gym until last year when her knee got injured
Jan 24 20:06:12 <DesertRose>   Take care, and we'll hope to see you next week, sans a ton of snow.
Jan 24 20:06:15 *   Shiral has quit (Client closed the connection)
Jan 24 20:06:21 <Shiral2>   Stupid wireless hiccup
Jan 24 20:06:23 <The_Bee>   I hope your mom gets dug out soon, KK.
Jan 24 20:06:28 <Jerusha>   Have a good week, KK
Jan 24 20:06:32 <Shiral2>   Bye, KK
Jan 24 20:06:37 <Eyikl>   Bye
Jan 24 20:06:39 <Evie>   Oh dear, KK.  Have a good week, I hope!
Jan 24 20:06:42 <DesertRose>   G'night and have a good week, KK!
Jan 24 20:06:53 <Shiral2>   Tell your mother not to play in the snow, so much!
Jan 24 20:06:55 <The_Bee>   thanks for coming, KK. Have a good week and good weather.
Jan 24 20:07:07 <Shiral2>   Hope the heat and lights stay on
Jan 24 20:07:36 <DesertRose>   Wow, Evie, I can't do Zumba (my back protests).  I'm in awe of your mom.
Jan 24 20:07:38 <KK>   Yep.  It will all work out.  It's just annoying--and I probably should have checked earlier, but when I finally headed down to the cottage at about 2:30P, I figured the alley had been fully plowed.  And she didn't think to call and tell me that her deck hadn't been cleared.  ah, well.
Jan 24 20:07:53 <DesertRose>   I bet it's annoying.
Jan 24 20:08:15 *   KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of powder snow.
Jan 24 20:08:18 <DesertRose>   Thanks for coming to see us!
Jan 24 20:08:19 <Evie>   I like snow best when it's in photos
Jan 24 20:08:20 <Shiral2>   Bye, KK
Jan 24 20:08:31 <KK>   Nighters.
Jan 24 20:08:33 <Shiral2>   I feel kind of the same way Evie
Jan 24 20:08:39 *   KK has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
