This is the song that never ends, and it goes on and on my friends
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was
and they'll continue singing it forever just because
this is the song that never ends....   ad infinitum ad nauseam

Gaahh! Drat my busy day. Evie beat me to it!

I don't think it's all that weird, Evie. You have been married a while!  As G.K. Chesterton said, 'Truth is stranger than fiction because we create fiction to suit our fancy."

I had a friend from college with whom I shared a strange rapport. Without fail, every time he crossed my mind, he'd call (within minutes) and vice-versa. And it wasn't like we were romantically involved or anything. Of course, once we were both married and started families, there was too much static on that psychic connection. Heh, he was a KK fan, too. Wouldn't be surprised if he lurks here sometimes (that would be you, Uncle Ardak!).

(OK, if I hear from him in the next few minutes, I'll report in.)

"There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza.
There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza a hole...."

The Bear went over the mountain,
the Bear Went over the mountain,
the Bear went over the Moo-ouun-TAIIN,
To see what he could see!

He saw,
12 drummers drumming
11 pipers piping
10 ladies dancing
9 lords a leaping
8 maids a milking
7 Swans a Swimming
6 geese a laying
5 gold rings
4 calling birds
3 French Hens
2 Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.

And wisely went straight back the way he came!

Yep! We're out to lunch, breakfast, dinner, tea, supper, the lot. Not in for a single meal, if you ask me!  ;D

Way up in the sky the little birds fly
way down in their nest the little birds rest,
with a wing on the right
and a wing on the left
the little birds sleep all through the night.
Shhh. Their SLEEPING!
When the bright sun comes up
the Dew falls away.
Good Morning!
Good Morning!
the little birds say.
May your horses have wings and fly!

Since I don't know the tune to this one, it can't get stuck in my head, but it does conjure up memories of this poem my grandmother taught me when I was five:

Little birdie in the sky,
Why'd you do that in my eye?
I'm not mad,
And I'm not sad,
And I'm not gonna cry,
But I'm sure glad that cows don't fly!   :D

Hi Evie, this was a childhood amusement.  From a very young age my sister and I would regale our parents with this tune, with full flapping arms and dance moves. Peals of laughter resounded after every attempt to sing it. Even today, a mild form of Deryni rapport occurs between my sister and I if even one of us mimics the slightest word or dance move from that tune.
May your horses have wings and fly!

Hey diddle diddle,
The physicists fiddle,
The Bleep jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And died the following June.

Little Miss Muffet crouched on a tuffet,
Collecting her shell-shocked wits.
There dropped (from a glider) An H-bomb beside her--
Which frightened Miss Muffet to bits.

How's this for an earworm? Every time my characters rebel, they stop listening to me and do this:

Last time we were in Orlando, DH and I rode the Rip Ride Rockit rollercoaster together 3 times. On this coaster, you choose a music track from 30 selections. (There are also some hidden "Easter egg" ones, but we only used the generally available ones.) Each time, we chose the same track. Ride 1 was Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top. Ride 2 was U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer. Ride 3 was The Devil Went Down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band. You can't see what the person next to you is selecting, and only get a few seconds to make your selection. We also hadn't discussed our choices as we didn't know what tracks were available in the different categories. By the third one, we were getting pretty freaked out!

Veni veni, Emmanuel
captivum solve Israel,
qui gemit in exsilio,
privatus Dei Filio.
Gaude! Gaude! Emmanuel,
nascetur pro te Israel!

my favorite and Sister Urban would be proud I still prefer the Latin version

So do I!  This is one of my two favorite hymns in a (nearly) extinct language.  Caedmon's Hymn (in Anglo-Saxon Englisc) is the other.  And yes, I've memorized that one too.  Drives my daughter crazy when I start "singing in tongues" in the car.  :)

The other day, a version of  "O Come o come Emmanuel" by Aaron Shust was on the radio, and the kids started laughing. While it was nice, it was rather upbeat, and they thought it sounded like he should be driving horses across the Western plains.

This is a really nice version. It  reminds me of something we did in choir. They do the Gregorian chant quite well, at just the right tempo. (Had to learn "proper" Gregorian Chant in high school, and it bugs me when it's done too slow, or when the singers get louder as the notes go lower.) OK, so I'm rather a purist while it comes to Gregorian chant.   Enjoy!

Oh, that's lovely!  Yes, slowed-down chant drives me buggy too; the song isn't meant to be a dirge.  Slowed down hymns affect me the same way, especially when the lyrics are about something hopeful or joyful, but the tempo makes you think the entire choir is on the verge of suicidal depression.  "C'mon, y'all, 'Victory in Jesus' is not meant to sound like you're drunk or have just come off a 36 hour shift!"

Another thing I love about that video is that it features male voices sounding like men and not like pre-pubescent boys or castrata falsetto voices, which seems to be the more prevalent sound of male voices in modern songs.  I miss hearing more deeply resonant, masculine-sounding voices in modern music.  *sigh*
