[05:17.15] <DesertRose> Hi KK!
[05:17.17] <Jemler> hi kk
[05:17.22] <The_Bee> Hi KK
[05:17.24] <KK> Hello, all.
[05:17.26] <revanne> Hi KK
[05:17.28] <drakensis> hello
[05:17.33] <Evie> Luke occasionally forgets he's neutered, and then Gigi has to give him That Look that says "What do you think you're trying to do, idjit?"
[05:17.34] <Demercia> A colleague has just acquired two kittens. Soooo cute.  But I don't think the cat in residence would appreciate company.
[05:17.37] <Evie> Hi, KK!
[05:17.37] <Shiral> I watch TV in my comfy chair, and when I get up to go upstairs, Dmitri immediately settles on the seat
[05:17.41] <Shiral> Hello Katherine
[05:17.52] <The_Bee> You're his seat-warmer.
[05:17.53] <DesertRose> Of course, Shiral.  Don't you know you're a seat warmer for him?
[05:18.03] <Shiral> I'm getting the idea, yes, DR
[05:18.07] <KK> It's warm.  Gus does the same thing.
[05:18.15] <Shiral> I'm a heated, padded food dispenser
[05:18.17] <Demercia> Hi KK, I'm new on the forum, Revanne's sister.
[05:18.22] <DesertRose> Yup, Shiral.
[05:18.30] <Evie> we had a kitten here for a week, and Luke and Gigi accepted her a lot better than I thought they would
[05:18.33] <Shiral> And masseuse and slave
[05:18.50] <KK> H, Demercia.  Welcome!
[05:18.56] <Demercia> Thanks
[05:18.58] <Evie> Yes, it's the British Invasion tonight. :D
[05:19.12] <KK> It's only fitting.
[05:19.17] <drakensis> like the Beatles but less musical
[05:19.19] <Demercia> :-)
[05:19.21] <The_Bee> I've been watching a new show on Animal Planet: Treetop Cat Rescue.
[05:19.23] * Evie hands out tea and biscuits
[05:19.31] <DesertRose> I've heard about that, Bee.  How is it?
[05:19.32] <Demercia> Much less musical
[05:19.35] <KK> I watched that a couple of nights ago.
[05:19.46] <Jemler> bee, how mant lanterns are hanging in the Old North Church?
[05:19.49] <KK> Kind of cute, but I don't think it will have legs.
[05:20.03] <The_Bee> not bad, but a bit repetitive.
[05:20.16] <DesertRose> Yeah, I can see how that would be.
[05:20.19] <Shiral> It sounds like it's a bit of  a specific Niche
[05:20.32] <KK> Yes, there are only so many ways you can go up a tree and capture a sometimes reluctant cat.
[05:20.38] <The_Bee> There are only so many ways a cat can get up in a tree.
[05:20.38] <Evie> LOL
[05:20.39] <DesertRose> True, KK.
[05:20.59] <Shiral> And there's also a rather select target audience who will watch that regularly =o)
[05:21.06] <KK> I thought the one that went willingly and even eagerly into the bag to be brought down cas cute.
[05:21.11] <KK> was cute
[05:21.15] <Demercia> Living proof that what goes up cannot necessarily come down :-)
[05:21.22] <DesertRose> Or isn't thus inclined at times.
[05:21.22] <Jemler> tackleberry fans
[05:21.28] <The_Bee> 3 if by world-wide web
[05:21.35] <Jemler> lol
[05:21.36] <DesertRose> LOL, Bee.
[05:21.38] <KK> And then there was the feral cat that leaped to another tree and landed on a fence.  Not a happy cat.
[05:21.44] <Evie> They eventually come down one way or another.I've never seen a cat skeleton in a tree.
[05:21.46] <DesertRose> Ouch. Poor kitteh.
[05:21.52] <Shiral> "Honestly, every time I come up here for a bit of privacy, they always call in the cat service!"
[05:21.56] <Evie> granted, getting down in good condition is the trick
[05:22.04] <Demercia> Lol Shiral
[05:22.06] <revanne> Lol shiral
[05:22.11] <KK> Nope, no ct skeletons in trees that I know of.
[05:22.13] <DesertRose> They get hungry enough and come down in search of food, if nothing else.
[05:22.22] <Shiral> "Humans are SUCH drama queens!"
[05:22.38] <The_Bee> I wonder if they've ever had a rescued cat run right back up the tree.
[05:22.43] <Evie> Sleepy Gigi is still asleep on my lap but I'm managed to extricate my arm
[05:23.14] <Shiral> Dmitri just paid a visit to inspect my yogurt container, but turned up his nose at it
[05:23.17] <DesertRose> Gigi knows you don't feel good, Evie, and she's trying to be comforting.
[05:23.56] <Demercia> I had to take a cat to the vet once because she had her head stuck in a watering can.  She was bright ginger and it was bright green .
[05:24.10] <Evie> I'm beginning to wonder if MiniDuncan's sleep banishing spell just made my fatigue move to Gigi
[05:24.25] <DesertRose> That had to have been one of those that after it was over the vet and the vet techs were laughing fit to kill, Demercia.
[05:24.35] <Demercia> That would be a really useful spell
[05:24.41] <Evie> Oh dear! LOL  Poor kitty
[05:24.50] <The_Bee> Have you been under the weather all week, Evie?
[05:24.55] <Shiral> Wonder if a fagigue banishing spell has ever worked on someone else, by mistake? =o)
[05:25.00] <Evie> just the past few days, Bee
[05:25.43] <Demercia> Yes DR I could hear them laughing over the phone when I made the appointment.  And I had to carry her down the high street.
[05:25.51] <DesertRose> Oh no, LOL
[05:25.55] <Evie> LOL!
[05:26.03] <KK> How embarrassing...for the cat.
[05:26.06] <The_Bee> One time Melantha managed to get her head trapped in the handle on a shopping bag.
[05:26.08] <revanne> Don't you have to use a fatigue banishing spell on yourself?
[05:26.12] <Shiral> So you were your own siren? =o)
[05:26.30] <Shiral> I think so, but if you were really new at it....
[05:26.35] <Evie> you can cast one on someone else too, IIRC
[05:27.20] <DesertRose> I'm not sure that there's a canonical example of a fatigue banishing spell being used on anybody else, but on the other hand, why wouldn't you be able to?
[05:27.31] <Jemler> here's my fatigue banishing spell: S-L-E-E-P.
[05:27.42] * DesertRose slaps Jemler with a rainbow trout
[05:27.52] <Evie> Well, that's certainly the ideal one, jemler
[05:28.02] <Shiral> Eventually, that's EVERYONE's Fatigue banishing spell. =o)
[05:28.11] <Jemler> works every time
[05:28.16] * TerryOBrien (~TerryOBrie@4CA975.D94A1D.044B04.DC569E) has joined channel #deryni_destinations
[05:28.19] <DesertRose> Hi TerryOBrien.
[05:28.22] <Jemler> hi terry
[05:28.23] <The_Bee> Hi Terry
[05:28.23] <Evie> But sometimes it's impractical. "Loris is hunting us down to kill us. Hey, it's nap time!"
[05:28.25] <Shiral> Hi Terry
[05:28.26] <Evie> hi Terry
[05:28.26] <TerryOBrien> Good evening folks
[05:28.39] <revanne> Hi
[05:28.44] <TerryOBrien> I see I am not too late tonight: I remembered
[05:28.46] <Jemler> i came in late last week. did dennis get married?
[05:28.47] <Shiral> Well obviously, that's not the moment for a snooze, evie. =o)
[05:28.51] <DesertRose> Yay!
[05:29.02] <Shiral> He's not here, so I gather he did
[05:29.02] <DesertRose> He was scheduled to do so yesterday, Jemler.
[05:29.03] <The_Bee> I trust Dennis is enjoying his honeymoon.
[05:29.06] <Evie> Dennis was getting married this weekend, I think
[05:29.31] <Evie> He presumably has something better to do tonight than chat with us
[05:29.38] <Jemler> i read the log. kk logged in just before someone said congrats.
[05:29.44] <KK> Then I expect it happened.  Hope it went well.
[05:29.49] <DesertRose> One would think that honeymooning would not involve chat, no.
[05:29.55] <TerryOBrien> One would expect ... unless he would want to introduce his new wife to us all
[05:30.05] <Shiral> Certainly not chat with US. =o)
[05:30.11] <KK> I hope she understands.
[05:30.14] <The_Bee> Introductions can wait.
[05:30.42] <Demercia> I have a vague memory of an account of a fatigue banishing spell being used on someone else, but can't remember if fanfic or canon.
[05:30.42] <Shiral> Yes, in these circumstances, it can wait.
[05:31.08] <DesertRose> Well, Dennis was saying last week that they used quotes from their favorite books to mark the guest tables, and one of the quotes he chose was Evaine from CtH talking about being mated body and soul to Rhys, which I thought was a nice choice.
[05:31.08] <Evie> "so, these are my wacky friends, dear. Now let's go; you can get to know them better some other week."
[05:31.28] <revanne> That's lovely
[05:31.51] <DesertRose> So she at least understands his fan connections here, but I doubt we'll see him this week.  :D
[05:32.06] <Shiral> And possibly not next weekend, either =o)
[05:32.11] <DesertRose> Possibly not.  :D
[05:32.21] <Evie> If he shows up, I'll bop him on the head with an action figure
[05:32.28] <Evie> Probably Mini-Denis
[05:32.31] <DesertRose> Depending on how long their honeymoon plans run.
[05:33.00] <The_Bee> That may depend on how much time they can get off work.
[05:33.08] <DesertRose> Probably so, Bee.
[05:33.36] <revanne> Honeymoons were originally a month - hence the name
[05:33.51] <Jemler> i knew a guy who got stranded behind Cuba by a hurricane on his honeymoon. they were cruising the caribbean.
[05:33.59] <DesertRose> Yeah, but who can afford to take that much time off work these days?
[05:34.02] <Shiral> True, although not everyone's budget will run to that these days
[05:34.17] <Shiral> DR, now you're in my head, again!
[05:34.34] <revanne> Nice idea though
[05:34.36] <DesertRose> If you can afford to take a month off, you probably have either enough money not to work at all, or you have saved up one metric boatload of leave.
[05:34.48] <The_Bee> In some traditions, the bride and groom stay home and everyone else goes away.
[05:34.54] <DesertRose> LOL, I seem to be good at that, lately.  If it's not Evie or revanne, it's you, Shiral.
[05:35.07] <Evie> I worked with a woman who came to work one day saying "My poor nephew, he's getting married this weekend but he had a car accident and broke his nose and his leg, so he'll have to get married on crutches"...
[05:35.12] <Jemler> or you're a us senator during a congressional period.
[05:35.15] <Shiral> We're en rapport, at least
[05:35.15] <Demercia> That sounds a good plan.
[05:35.24] <The_Bee> Kelson and Araxie didn't go anywhere.
[05:35.35] <Demercia> Or a British MP
[05:35.48] <DesertRose> I was in a wedding party when I was on crutches one time, because I'd managed a few weeks before the wedding to break my left foot and sprain my right at the same time, so I was the gimpy bridesmaid.
[05:35.50] <Evie> So the next week,, she said "He got married, but he's still got a black eye and crutches in the wedding photos. But at least now they're off on their honeymoon to Cancun
[05:35.57] <Shiral> Well.... not in the book. But maybe Araxie hauled him off to some royal manor for a rest cure afterwards. =o)
[05:36.00] <Jemler> oh, they don't work either?
[05:36.10] <drakensis> a British MP doesn't have to turn up at Parliament (although the Whips may get literal after a month)
[05:36.20] <Shiral> He'd earned a holiday after making peace with both Torenth and Meara in a 2 month  period
[05:36.26] <Evie> The next week, she was "Oh, my poor nephew! The hurricane hit Cancun and they spent their wedding night in the bathtub of the hotel with a mattress over their heads!"
[05:36.46] <KK> With a castle to stay in, why go away?  You just hole up in the royal quarters and have meals sent up, and go riding and such.
[05:36.50] <Shiral> Maybe they were using up all their bad luck at once
[05:36.56] <revanne> Please put me out of my misery Evie - are they still married?
[05:37.17] <Evie> as far as I know. :D
[05:37.41] <Shiral> Well, yes. But there must be some beautiful private place where they could go spend a few leisurely weeks.
[05:37.43] <Evie> I figure if they could survive all that in the first month, marriage would be a breeze after that :D
[05:37.50] <DesertRose> Kelson and Araxie seem to have made good use of time, going by what Codex II says about children of those two.
[05:37.59] <drakensis> I have to wonder if Rhemuth Castle ever has to be more or less evacuated for a complete cleaning. That was commonly how medieval castles were cleaned IIRC - move on to the next one with portable furniture (most of it) and leave the cleaning crew behind.
[05:38.11] <Shiral> Dynastic duties can be enjoyable.
[05:38.24] <Demercia> Peter Wimsey and Harriet sent someone else away on their honeymoon to fool the press.  Though that didn't turn out too well.
[05:38.35] <Evie> They'd still have Valoret to move to on occasion, I imagine
[05:38.43] <DesertRose> That might be, drakensis.
[05:39.27] <The_Bee> That's what royal progressions are for.
[05:39.30] <Evie> I so want to make my portable medieval camp furniture for the littles this summer
[05:39.33] <drakensis> and other royal residences no doubt. Although castles may be less common than in Europe
[05:39.42] <Demercia> Dirt banishing spell?
[05:39.57] <DesertRose> Yes, I've got my 1366 Haldanes with a summer palace up the Eirian River.
[05:40.03] <Shiral> Doesn't necessarily have to be a castle. Fortified manors would work. =o)
[05:40.06] <Evie> I need a decluttering spell for my house
[05:40.08] <Jemler> thorne hagans shower scene?
[05:40.10] <TerryOBrien> You can still go and live with relatives: they should have castles, too
[05:40.28] <DesertRose> Wrong fandom, but I need Molly Weasley's spell to make the dishes wash themselves.
[05:40.30] <Shiral> Maybe on your honeymoon you want to AVOID the relatives?
[05:41.07] <Shiral> I would love a Potter universe wand for just such chores, DR
[05:41.08] <drakensis> Kelson doesn't really have the luxury of being inaccessible to royal duties without lots of prior preparation
[05:41.37] <Demercia> He has Nigel
[05:41.47] <Jemler> who was the shakespeare king who dressed as a commoner?
[05:41.58] <TerryOBrien> Lear?
[05:41.59] <Evie> Henry V?
[05:42.00] <Shiral> Well yes, but he's done some pretty important things all summer. I'd imagine that Nigel would tell him to go relax with his new bride. =o) COrrespondence can always be sent
[05:42.02] <DesertRose> Which one?  He used that device a couple of times.
[05:42.26] <revanne> Maybe Araxie and Kelson could go and stay with Barratt now that Kelson's mum (totally mental block about her name - forget a fatigue banishing spell can i have a memory spell) is behaving like a human being
[05:42.29] <DesertRose> The Duke of wherever the heck Measure for Measure was set did that too.
[05:42.34] <DesertRose> Jehana, revanne.
[05:42.39] <The_Bee> Jehana
[05:42.51] <revanne> Of course -
[05:42.58] <Shiral> Why would you want to spend your honeymoon with your MOTHER??
[05:43.06] <Demercia> King John after he lost his baggage in the Wash?;)
[05:43.07] <Jemler> barret delaney and jehana
[05:43.21] <Evie> If Kelson knows how to shapeshift, he and Araxie could at least sneak away for an hour or two
[05:43.37] <DesertRose> Or if he can at least cast a glamour over himself and his bride.
[05:43.42] <Jemler> pointer from barret. the guy had a kid at 80!!
[05:43.58] * DesertRose smacks Jemler with a swordfish.
[05:44.00] <Shiral> With a 40 year old bride, yet
[05:44.04] <Shiral> Oops sorry
[05:44.08] <Evie> Maybe his baggage is still there with my missing socks...oh, wait, wrong Wash
[05:44.40] <Jemler> evie, did you share the middle aged picture i sent you?
[05:44.51] <TerryOBrien> Nah, with Portals they could hale their way across the country for a couple of idle hours
[05:44.56] * revanne aims flying fish at Evie
[05:45.01] <Shiral> But with the Kingdom at peace, I'd think it would be an optimum time for Kelson to take a little well-earned holiday. Even if he went no more than a day's ride from Rhemuth
[05:45.02] <DesertRose> There is that, TerryOBrien.
[05:45.02] <Evie> It's on my timeline, I think
[05:45.18] <Jemler> i saw that and thought SCA.
[05:45.18] <Shiral> Such times will be rare for Kelson and Araxie
[05:45.47] <The_Bee> Evie, can you post the pic of Mini-Duncan riding Gigi again?
[05:45.55] <Evie> Brion managed to get away to do some hunting. Of course, that didn't turn out too well. :D
[05:46.02] <Evie> +https://flic.kr/p/uiA63n,;  Here, Bee
[05:46.26] <DesertRose> LOL, somehow I missed that before, Evie.
[05:46.32] <DesertRose> I think I was looking at Versailles.
[05:46.36] <The_Bee> Is he riding sidesaddle?
[05:46.38] <Shiral> We always see the Haldanes dealing with Serious Matters if not Crises. So they MUST have some downtime, too
[05:46.42] <Evie> He's just sitting on her
[05:46.56] <Evie>  I couldn't get the cassock to cooperate for riding her without her waking up
[05:47.02] <revanne> Looks like he's sitting on one of those rugs that still had the head on
[05:47.15] <DesertRose> Or having the good bishop flash us his undergarments.  :D
[05:47.26] <Evie> which he is wearing
[05:47.33] <drakensis> There's all the royal lands around Rhemuth, around Valoret and in Transflumenia so there must be some hunting lodges and whatnot.
[05:47.34] <Demercia> That's a good definition of a cat Revanne
[05:47.36] <DesertRose> At least modesty prevails.
[05:47.38] <Shiral> We would hope so. =o)
[05:47.48] <KK> Time can always be made for hunting.  After all, it also puts food on the able--no mean feat, when dealing with large royal households.
[05:48.01] <Jemler> where's Flumenia?
[05:48.20] <DesertRose> Indeed, KK.  That was a LOT of people to feed.
[05:48.20] <Shiral> Or hawking. Or boating. =o) Kelson would enjoy that so much.
[05:48.22] <TerryOBrien> Not to mention unrestricted social time with the King
[05:48.47] <Demercia> And don't forget all those saints days that took the place of holidays
[05:48.48] <drakensis> western edge of the kingdom, Jemler, near Howicce and the Connait
[05:48.51] <Evie> they might take the Royal Barge upriver
[05:48.54] <Shiral> There's mention in ITKS of Carthanelle, which must be pleasant country
[05:49.35] <TerryOBrien> Katherine, before I forget it: I never did get a response about that story I sent you. Should I resend it?
[05:50.22] <DesertRose> Indeed, Evie, LOL.
[05:50.38] <Evie> I just remembered that someone on the forum this past week had a question for KK, but I can't remember what it was. Did it have to do with the Gabrilite badge?
[05:51.03] <DesertRose> Oh yeah, there was that, but I don't remember the exact question either.
[05:51.15] <revanne> Think it was whether there was a Gabrilite sisterhood
[05:51.32] <The_Bee> Was KK here at the time?
[05:51.42] <Demercia> That sounds right?
[05:51.42] <Evie> oh yes, that at least came up if it wasn't the question I was thinking of
[05:51.47] <DesertRose> KK, there's a new fan on the forum who is making a Gabrilite habit for a con.
[05:51.52] <Evie> No, it came up on the forum Bee
[05:52.20] <Shiral> I think someone mentioned a Michaeline Sister Order
[05:52.34] <The_Bee> warrior nuns?
[05:52.38] <DesertRose> Oh, that was the other thing.  Another fan wanted to know about your planned con schedule this year, KK.
[05:52.39] <Evie> yes, I think he had some questions about the Gabrilite badge, but then the conversation evolved from there
[05:52.59] <DesertRose> Have you heard the stories of kids educated by nuns?  It's not that far a stretch.  :D
[05:53.16] <Evie> not warrior nuns, just nuns associated with the order.
[05:53.24] <Shiral> Nuns can be fearsome women. =o)
[05:53.26] <DesertRose> I know, I was being silly.  :)
[05:53.34] <KK> Only definite con scheduled, at this point, is Dragoncon, in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend.  (I don't go to cons that don't pay my way anymore.)
[05:53.48] <DesertRose> Okay, not going to what used to be Darkover?
[05:53.51] <DesertRose> Or not sure yet.
[05:54.07] <Shiral> Well if you were educated by Michaeline nuns, you wouldn't DARE not do your homework, would you? =o)
[05:54.15] <DesertRose> No kidding, Shiral.  :)
[05:54.46] <Evie> and if you are educated by Gabrilite nuns, they can Heal your bruised knuckles after rapping them smartly with the ruler. :D
[05:54.59] <DesertRose> LOL
[05:55.19] <drakensis> one disqualification for use of a ruler, as it says in Nun Fight
[05:55.23] <Shiral> But the Gabrillites are fond of cloaking in everything in double meanings.
[05:55.30] <KK> Nope, at least not this year, DR.  THey didn't invite me, because they want to rotate in different authors.
[05:56.00] <Jemler> +https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxo81Ok9Urk,; Dave Allen in a Convent School
[05:56.01] <Evie> I'd love to dress as a Gabrilite sister if there is such a thing. Yet another Deryni-based costume for my con wardrobe
[05:56.47] <DesertRose> Oh, okay.  Fair enough.
[05:56.54] <KK> Michaelines did some educating, at least at higher levels.  And of course, Gabrilites were very focused on educating Healers--and probably human physicians.
[05:56.55] <Evie> It's either that or I'll have to slap a hot wig on and be Rhys. ;)
[05:57.23] <The_Bee> or Jerusha
[05:57.37] <Jemler> i wonder if rhys had to wear the g'dula as a student, or if that was reserved for the teachers.
[05:57.47] <DesertRose> Okay, I stuck a note about Dragon*Con in the con schedule thread for those who would like to know.
[05:57.57] <drakensis> Given how rare Healers are at all, it's one career where gender may not have mattered as much
[05:57.59] <revanne> I just checked the forum and the question re the Gabrilites was to do with how female healers were trained
[05:58.16] <KK> The g'dula was probably reserved for religious Healers.
[05:58.23] <The_Bee> Female Healers are rare, IIRC.
[05:58.27] <Shiral> We know   Rhys didn't wear one
[05:58.38] <DesertRose> No, Rhys' hair probably wouldn't have cooperated anyway.
[05:58.39] <Evie> Thanks, revanne. I knew there was some reason my ears perked up at the question
[05:58.43] <KK> Female Healers were so rare, I'm sure they were trained on a very individual basis.
[05:59.12] <Jemler> would st brigids have trained female healers?
[05:59.18] <KK> (Actually, it might have been a way to tame Rhys' unruly locks.)
[05:59.31] <DesertRose> :)
[06:00.02] <Shiral> The G'Dula seems to work well for Kelson and Dhugal
[06:00.02] <revanne> are border braids in any way linked to the g'dula?
[06:00.04] <DesertRose> Yeah, actually, come to think when my hair doesn't want to behave, it usually ends up braided.
[06:00.18] <Jemler> 3 or 4 strands?
[06:00.24] <DesertRose> Whose, mine?
[06:00.29] <Jemler> yes
[06:00.44] <The_Bee> Women slept with their long hair in braids so it wouldn't get tangled.
[06:00.50] <Evie> I do that
[06:00.53] <DesertRose> Three-strand braids.  Odd numbers of strands are easier to manage.
[06:01.15] <Evie> I can do a four strand braid, but not in my own hair
[06:01.15] <DesertRose> So do I.  It's usually braided for bed or up in a not-very-tight bun.
[06:01.38] <drakensis> I never got the hang of braiding my own hair.
[06:01.51] <drakensis> can't envisage what I'm doing behind my head very well
[06:01.52] <DesertRose> I've never actually tried more than three strands, unless you want to count French/Dutch braiding.
[06:02.02] <Shiral> That's why  you need maids/hairdressers
[06:02.03] <Evie> Is your hair long enough to braid or would that  be why, drakensis?
[06:02.03] <DesertRose> It takes practice, drakensis.
[06:02.12] <drakensis> shoulder length
[06:02.15] <Jemler> teach drakenbro how to doit. :)
[06:02.22] <DesertRose> That's long enough, yes.
[06:02.36] <Evie> nowadays you can learn braiding techniques on YouTube
[06:02.45] <drakensis> not quite small of the back if it's straight but it curls at that point
[06:03.00] <DesertRose> Yes, there are nine and a half thousand videos out there on how to do hair.
[06:03.01] <drakensis> sometimes it goes into ringlets when it's drying out
[06:03.01] <Evie> I sort of start it off by feel before it's long enough to see over my shoulder
[06:03.20] <Shiral> I watch those videos, but my hair NEVER looks as nice, because I keep getting which strand goes over or under confused, and my arms get tired.
[06:03.25] <DesertRose> Yes, it's more of a muscle memory thing than anything else, really, braiding your own hair.
[06:03.37] <Jemler> my hair used to reach to the bottom of my shoulderblades.
[06:03.49] <Shiral> I can do very basic braids, but nothing more elaborate than that
[06:03.53] <The_Bee> Mom saved my younger sister's braids after they were cut off.
[06:04.07] <KK> I used to be abe to do a shortish 3-strand braid when I had longer hair, but not 4--at least not on my own hair.
[06:04.18] <DesertRose> I'm trying to learn to do a crown braid on myself.  I can do one on someone else, but doing it on your own head is harder.
[06:04.18] <Evie> Mine used to be below waist length, but that gave me headaches, so it's rarely much past shoulder or mid-back length anymore
[06:04.40] <The_Bee> Mine is short.
[06:04.42] <Shiral> I would think that would also get very hot in a warm humid climate like Alabama!
[06:04.50] <Shiral> Mine is just below my shoulders
[06:04.51] <Evie> yes
[06:05.00] <Demercia> Mine too Bee.
[06:05.01] <Shiral> Long enough to wad it up and hold it up with a clip
[06:05.04] <DesertRose> Long hair up is fairly cool, even in the Florida heat and humidity.
[06:05.17] <Evie> I've done mine in two braids and then pinned them up on my head in a coronet
[06:05.17] <DesertRose> And I look atrocious with my hair much shorter than shoulder length.
[06:05.19] <KK> As I recall, someone did a very nice French braid on me when I co-presided over Bynw's first wedding.  I was never able to duplicate it.
[06:05.47] <DesertRose> It's easier to braid someone else's hair than your own.  You can see what you're doing when you're fixing someone else's hair.
[06:05.58] <Shiral> I like a bit of length, myself DR
[06:06.10] <Jemler> speaking of presiding. i was thinking of becoming a ULC minister.
[06:06.24] <DesertRose> I just look weird with short hair.  Maybe it's that I've had at least longish hair most of my adult life, but I think I look weird with short hair.
[06:06.24] <Shiral> And you can keep right and left sorted out, and do a better job of maintaining consistent tension
[06:06.27] <Evie> Renaissance hair taping looks nice and keeps hair off your neck, if you have access to a blunt plastic canvas needle and some ribbon
[06:06.45] <DesertRose> Yes, hair taping works well too, especially at SCA events.
[06:06.46] <The_Bee> was or are, Jemler?
[06:06.56] <DesertRose> And it gives you something to pin your veil to as well.  :)
[06:07.00] <Jemler> depends on SCOTUS.
[06:07.11] <The_Bee> ??
[06:07.41] <Evie> Luke is awake and sitting vulturelike on the arm of my chair
[06:07.45] <DesertRose> Hi Luke!
[06:07.50] <Jemler> if the approve marriage equality, i'll do it. just to perform same-sex marriages. i have a few friends who are gay.
[06:07.51] <DesertRose> I was wondering when he'd show up. :)
[06:07.58] <The_Bee> Meow, Luke!
[06:08.02] <Shiral> Dmitri is trying to drape himself over the left end of my keyboard
[06:08.09] <DesertRose> Hi Dmitri.  :)
[06:08.14] <Demercia> Hi Luke.
[06:08.25] <Shiral> If he moves slowly enough, he thinks I won't notice, silly cat
[06:08.40] <DesertRose> Fuzzball.
[06:08.56] <Demercia> B is doing a good impersonation of a rug with a head on!
[06:09.03] <DesertRose> LOL, Demercia.
[06:09.08] <Jemler> wqho is B?
[06:09.15] <Demercia> My cat
[06:09.18] <DesertRose> BRB
[06:09.35] <Demercia> A bit soft ginger
[06:09.44] <Demercia> Big
[06:09.46] <Shiral> Dmitri purrs his greeting to you all
[06:09.51] <Jemler> the one in the green can?
[06:09.52] <Evie> Demercia, we have a photo gallery for "fur kids" if you haven't explored the Gallery section yet
[06:09.59] <revanne> In the interests of balance Cassie(large black dog) is lying on the floor pretending that it isn't time for her to lie on her bed in the kitchen
[06:10.12] <Demercia> No that was his sister.
[06:10.29] <Demercia> Thanks Evie.  I ll go play
[06:10.58] <Jemler> brb
[06:11.21] <Evie> Just got a text message inviting me to enter the alternate history fashion show at DragonCon
[06:11.36] <KK> Oh, cool!
[06:11.45] * Demercia (Mibbit@OWIRCN-075dbc1a.range86-168.btcentralplus.com) Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
[06:12.00] <Evie> oops, we lost Demercia
[06:12.05] <revanne> what's that/
[06:12.23] <DesertRose> Hi Cassie.
[06:12.25] <Jemler> i'm back'
[06:12.27] <Evie> it's like a fashion show through the ages
[06:12.37] <revanne> Sounds fun
[06:12.49] * Demercia (Mibbit@OWIRCN-075dbc1a.range86-168.btcentralplus.com) has joined channel #deryni_destinations
[06:12.53] <DesertRose> Rehi Demercia.
[06:12.56] <revanne> Cassie would say woof if she wasn't too lazy
[06:12.58] <Evie> rehi
[06:13.00] <Shiral> WB, Demercia
[06:13.19] <Demercia> Thanks.  Didn't mean to leave!
[06:13.28] <DesertRose> It's okay.  Mibbit is contrary at times.
[06:13.31] <Jemler> mibbit acts up
[06:13.40] <revanne> Is your connection bad?
[06:13.57] <Jemler> looks loke i replaced shiral in your head dr
[06:14.18] <Demercia> No, should be fine.
[06:14.28] <Evie> "Regency, Retro, and RococoPunk--they're all here! Featuring fashions from days gone by as well as historical worlds of might-have-been, vintage costuming comes to life on the catwalk."
[06:14.41] <Evie> I could trot out the Servants of Saint Camber garb for it
[06:14.49] <DesertRose> Something like that, Jemler.
[06:14.50] <Jemler> i do my little turnon the catwalk...
[06:15.05] <Demercia> Rococo Punk ?
[06:15.14] <KK> Sounds like great fun!
[06:15.34] <Evie> Like steampunk but with a more Napoleonic age flair, from what I hear
[06:15.57] <Demercia> :)
[06:16.02] <Shiral> The Rococo Punk period just doesn't do anything for me..... =o)
[06:16.23] <Evie> It will be at the Westin, KK, if I can lure you out of your home hotel to walk a block and a half to the Westin
[06:16.36] <Evie> Probably in the evening, so maybe it will be cooler by that time
[06:17.16] <KK> With advance planning and no schedule conflict, I can do it.  :)
[06:17.27] <DesertRose> I want pics!  :D
[06:17.41] <Evie> that's the hotel I was in last year. You can somehow get there from the dealer's room, but I don't know my way through that maze
[06:18.06] <revanne> Was it somewhere similar that you lost Duncan's head last year, Evie?
[06:18.11] <Evie> I was going to take lots of pics last year if it hadn't been for that littlle crisis of Duncan losing his head
[06:18.23] <DesertRose> Poor Duncan.
[06:18.30] <Evie> it was exactly there, revanne
[06:18.37] <Demercia> It can happen to the best bishop
[06:18.47] <The_Bee> "If you can keep your head when all about you...."
[06:18.59] <Jemler> are losing theirs...
[06:19.12] <The_Bee> and blaming it on you....
[06:19.12] <Demercia> And blaming it on you.
[06:19.17] <revanne> :DSee I like to keep a protective eye on our favourite Bishop
[06:19.35] <Evie> I did that comic strip about it that had the line "Freak accident, could have happened to anyone," and my best friend died laughing when he read that line and said "No, no it really can't!"
[06:19.36] <Jemler> then you are the one running the gillotine!
[06:19.37] <Shiral> Big crowds just DO make Duncan lose his cooll....
[06:19.38] <KK> I was with her when it happened, a distraction.
[06:19.42] <Shiral> Cool....
[06:19.42] <Demercia> :DBee
[06:20.24] <Evie> He also lost his soul.  Well, ok, not his soul, just his sole.
[06:20.31] <DesertRose> I'd like to go to Dragon*Con some year, but it's not going to happen this year because that's the weekend before DD's birthday and she wants to go to the SCA event that weekend, which is Trimaris' 30th Year celebration.
[06:20.35] <Evie> and Alaric lost his coronet
[06:20.48] <Evie> but that's easy enough to replace
[06:20.50] <KK> Well, we knew his head joint was loose, and we probably shouldn't have let him ride on the outside of Evie's bag where it could get jostled off.
[06:21.03] <DesertRose> Hindsight is 20/20.
[06:21.15] <KK> Yep.
[06:21.24] <Evie> next year he is staying within protective covering at all times. He can sightsee through translucent plastic
[06:21.27] <DesertRose> :)
[06:21.50] <Evie> though I got some great photos of him and Alaric checking out tourist brochures
[06:21.58] <DesertRose> LOL
[06:22.27] <Jemler> sign on a baptist church: "Prophecy class cancelled due to unforseen circumstances"
[06:22.39] <Evie> and the shot where he fell backwards off his bench with a beer in hand
[06:22.50] * DesertRose rolls her eyes and tosses a catfish at Jemler.
[06:23.01] <Jemler> so he had a shot and a beer?
[06:23.32] <Evie> +https://flic.kr/p/uiA63n,
[06:23.42] <Demercia> One of the good things about being mediaeval must have been no cameras to take embarrassing pics
[06:23.43] <TerryOBrien> DesertRose rolls her eyes and get a 6
[06:23.50] <DesertRose> LOL
[06:24.23] <KK> That was very funny.  We didn't do anything to him.  He just toppled backward off his bench when e were'nt looking.
[06:24.35] <Evie> which was taken just a few minutes after +https://flic.kr/p/oZvESj,
[06:24.37] <Jemler> can you imagime "Rhemuths Funniest Videos"?
[06:24.38] <DesertRose> I can imagine.
[06:24.53] <drakensis> Dhugal would feature with that tray he dropped as a page
[06:24.54] <DesertRose> LOL, I meant that in reply to KK, but Jemler and I must have been typing at the same time.
[06:25.25] <Shiral> Poor kid, once was enough to live through that one, Drakensis =o)
[06:26.20] <Evie> This was about 20 minutes before he lost his original head, I think: +https://flic.kr/p/oZvEsw,
[06:26.24] <Demercia> Thanks very much for your welcome, I think I had better say goodbye, and try one of Jemler's fatigue banishing spells 6.30 tomorrow morning is getting close.   Look forward to next month.
[06:26.30] <Jemler> what about the one whose breeches tore in front of the archbishop? (in retrospect, the bishop probably asked him for a date)
[06:26.34] <DesertRose> Okay, see you later, Demercia.
[06:26.41] <Shiral> Night, Demercia. Nice to meet you
[06:26.46] <Jemler> nite demercia. nice to meet you.
[06:26.48] <Evie> Goodnight, Demercia
[06:26.48] <DesertRose> Have a good night!
[06:26.57] <revanne> Night
[06:27.00] <Jemler> shiral, stop that!
[06:27.08] <The_Bee> glad yo came
[06:27.13] <Shiral> Yes, him too Jemler. Although I would feel much less sorry for Nicholas
[06:27.19] * Demercia waves goodbye
[06:27.25] <DesertRose> Okay, we've got rapport under control.  Now we just need to figure out how to build Portals.  :D
[06:27.28] <KK> Nighters, Demercia.
[06:27.39] <Evie> YES on Portals
[06:27.49] <Shiral> Who would want to date Edmund Loris?????
[06:27.53] <Jemler> Healers
[06:27.57] <DesertRose> Yikes.   No thanks.

[06:28.01] <Evie> I'd love to be able to go to the UK without spending my savings
[06:28.06] <DesertRose> Healers would be fantastic, yes.
[06:28.11] <Jemler> long jump.
[06:28.25] <revanne> But a warm welcome
[06:28.32] <Shiral> Well okay, OTHER than Gorony, who would want to date Loris
[06:28.43] <Jemler> start at alaska and work your way west.
[06:28.53] <Jemler> warin?
[06:29.12] <revanne> Think Warin got fed up of Loris
[06:29.17] <DesertRose> KK, is there a distance limit on Portal travel?
[06:29.21] <Jemler> de nore?
[06:29.36] <DesertRose> Like, can you only go so far or can you go to any Portal you know the coordinates to, regardless of the distance?
[06:29.40] <Evie> Presumably there's a range after which the energy cost is rather prohibitive, so I'm willling to go by way of NYC, Newfoundland, Greenland, Ireland, England
[06:30.02] <Jemler> greenland, icelan, ireland
[06:30.20] <Evie> Yes, that's better
[06:30.38] <TerryOBrien> Portal customs inspection sites?
[06:30.40] <Evie> I'll just plan on summer travel if they are outdoor Portals
[06:30.43] <DesertRose> That makes me think of a line from the film of The Hunt for Red October.  "Your aircraft have dropped so many sonar buoys that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without gettin' his feet wet."
[06:30.44] <KK> It depends on the total energy cost for each jump.

[06:31.15] <Jemler> not too mention the portal itself
[06:31.20] <The_Bee> Hi Evil Twin
[06:31.22] <KK> That's like the line about the flack being so thick around planes that one could almost walk on it.
[06:31.28] <DesertRose> Yup.
[06:31.37] <Shiral2> I really need to get the Portal Repair people out here to fix that....
[06:31.42] <Jemler> you could go north
[06:31.59] <TerryOBrien> Better hope the energy cost isn't proportional to the square of the distance
[06:32.06] <DesertRose> No kidding, TerryOBrien.

[06:34.01] <DesertRose> Well, that's annoying.
[06:34.16] <KK> No, I don't, Evie.  I've wondered that myself.

[06:38.49] <Evie> FriarJohn, one thing about our Mibbit chat server is that it's temperamental, so you could be booted without notice
[06:38.53] <The_Bee> rehi sh2
[06:38.57] <Evie> so if that happens, just rejoin us
[06:38.57] <Jemler> wb again
[06:39.02] <friarjohn00> So I notice.
[06:39.02] <Evie> rehi
[06:39.07] <Shiral2> This is just plain getting annoying
[06:39.19] <DesertRose> It has a tendency to think you're not connected and time you out.
[06:39.19] <Evie> or you can try any other IRC chat client
[06:39.24] <friarjohn00> My monastic community uses a chat system that is even worse.
[06:39.28] <Evie> I use IceChat, some use mIRC
[06:39.34] <DesertRose> The independent chat clients tend to be a little more stable, yes.
[06:39.48] <Evie> worse than Mibbit? Wow
[06:39.58] <The_Bee> right now I'm using mibbit.
[06:40.02] <Evie> I don't suppose holy water would help with that? :)
[06:40.03] <KK> It's been a while since I've played in that part of the timeline, but I think I finally decided that the Gabrilite badge was the reverse of a secular Healer's badge.
[06:40.20] * Jemler uses Evie ;launcher on Mibbit
[06:40.29] * Shiral (~Shiral@OWIRCN-36ba981f.ca.comcast.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
[06:40.46] <Jemler> bye Shiral Prime
[06:40.49] <Evie> OK, you had that listed as the gabrilite Healer's badge, KK, but you also have something about Azure, an equal-armed cross fitchy argent
[06:40.54] <friarjohn00> Well, I've seen references to a cross in a circle light blue and grey, as well as the Healers badge.
[06:41.49] <Evie> there's a thread re the discussion on the Forurm
[06:41.51] <DesertRose> I just grabbed Deryni Magic, and it says the badge of the order (not the Healers specifically) was a light blue or white equal-armed cross with flared ends.
[06:41.52] <Jemler> i thought the healers badge was a green hand pirced by a star.
[06:42.21] <KK> I remember playing at that variation.  The cross would be be a moline cross, like the Michaeline one, but without the pointed lower end.
[06:42.52] * Shiral (Mibbit@OWIRCN-36ba981f.ca.comcast.net) has joined channel #deryni_destinations
[06:42.53] <Evie> yes, and the RPG says an equal armed cross fitchy but says nothing about the flared ends. Deitz illustrated it with straight arms rather than flared, so we wondered..
[06:42.58] <Jemler> did the pointed end refer to a sword?
[06:43.08] * Shiral2 (~Shiral@OWIRCN-36ba981f.ca.comcast.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
[06:43.09] <friarjohn00> Gotcha! Thank you. But the Healers badge should supplant that?
[06:43.09] <Jemler> wb again, Shiral Prime
[06:43.18] <Shiral> I have REALLY had it with mIRC, today
[06:43.27] <Shiral> So I'm trying Mibbit instead
[06:43.28] <Evie> OK so the Gabrilites badge would be a cross moline with equal arms?
[06:43.40] <DesertRose> Yes, Jemler, that's the Gabrilite Healers' badge, and the secular Healers badge was backwards.
[06:44.45] <Evie> and the question also came up as to whether Healers in some other order (surely the Michaelines would want a Healer or two in the ranks?) would use the same Healer badge
[06:45.22] <Jemler> did the Michaelines train healers?
[06:45.40] <DesertRose> I should think the Michaeline Healers would wear the "secular" Healers' badge.
[06:46.03] <Jemler> what was the Varnarite badge?
[06:46.09] <KK> I suspect that the general badge of the order would be the circle cross, with the Healer's badge reserved for those members who were also Healers.  (There would have been non-Healer members of the who were Deryni but not Healers.)
[06:46.29] <DesertRose> Magic doesn't say, Jemler.
[06:46.31] <Evie> KK, for the full discussion when you have time, see +http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/index.php/topic,1511.msg13029.html#msg13029,
[06:46.37] <KK> Don't think I ever devised the Varnarite badge.
[06:46.39] <Jemler> The Who were Deryuni?!
[06:46.43] <Shiral> Hello, Friarjohn
[06:46.56] <friarjohn00> Hello Shiral
[06:47.22] <DesertRose> BRB
[06:47.25] <Evie> FriarJohn, if you can get to DragonCon on Labor Day weekend, there's an alternate history fashion show, so you could wear Gabrilite garb for that
[06:47.48] <Evie> I just got a text inviting me to participate, so it was fresh on my mind
[06:47.48] <friarjohn00> Considering how slowly I sew ... maybe next year.
[06:47.56] <Shiral> Is everyone being quiet, or can I just not see any of the conversation, because on my screen, nobody's saying anything
[06:48.05] <KK> I'll try to sort all that out when we do the revised Codex.
[06:48.09] <Evie> we're talking, Shiral
[06:48.12] * Shiral (Mibbit@OWIRCN-36ba981f.ca.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
[06:48.33] <Evie> that's one discrepancy that could use sorting, then
[06:49.14] <Jemler> KK. did you create a badge for the Servants of Saint Camber?
[06:49.19] <Evie> Gigi just got up then curled back up to sleep on my arms again
[06:49.37] <Evie> If there's a badge for the Servants, it wasn't in the description of their clothing in the Codex
[06:50.21] <Evie> but I could always add one if you decide to add that detail
[06:50.22] * revanne (Mibbit@OWIRCN-ed7d40eb.dsl.as9105.com) has joined channel #deryni_destinations
[06:50.27] <Evie> rehi revanne
[06:50.28] <Jemler> wb revanne
[06:50.34] <The_Bee> wb revanne
[06:50.34] <KK> I don't know that I ever devised a badge for the Servants.  I suspect that, in the beginning, they were non-canonical, so they probably didn't think they needed one.
[06:50.44] <KK> But they'll have a bishop now.
[06:50.44] <Evie> we missed you terribly. I'm wearing a cat in mourning
[06:51.01] <DesertRose> Rehi revanne.
[06:51.06] <revanne> Hi - got distracted finishing off my knitting and didn't realise thatI'd been mibbited
[06:51.10] <Jemler> so Duncanis their Cannon? :)
[06:51.22] <friarjohn00> Thank you, KK. I have a few other questions of the Church in Gwynedd, but they can hold.
[06:51.26] <Evie> would that bishop be Duncan if they are helping with the Schola?
[06:51.31] <friarjohn00> hello revanne
[06:51.43] <revanne> Hello friarjohn
[06:51.55] <KK> Undoubtedly.
[06:51.57] <Evie> No, Duncan is not their huge gun that lobs big iron balls. :D
[06:52.36] <Jemler> (imitating Yoda) and you would know this how?
[06:52.57] <KK> If you're a real world friar, friarjohn, I suspect you have a lot.  ;)
[06:53.01] <Evie> He doesn't do shot put, jemler, just caber tossing. ;)
[06:53.42] * Evie imagines Duncan in a kilt lobbing telephone poles around
[06:53.48] <DesertRose> Down, girl.  :)
[06:53.52] <Evie> LOL
[06:53.54] <revanne> Except with his own head Evie
[06:53.59] <DesertRose> ROFL
[06:54.02] <friarjohn00> I'm a Carmelite Secular with and Anglican order.
[06:54.39] <Evie> Cool, friarjohn! Hence the interest in the Gabrilite garb?
[06:55.24] <KK> Ah, I'd guessed maybe Dominican or Franciscan, but Carmelite works.  You've no doubt noticed that the Church in Gwynedd is sort of Roman/Anglican: mostly Roman with most of the gloom and doom and guilt removed.
[06:55.34] <Evie> Are you also in the land of tea and scones, or on the North American side of The Pond?
[06:55.59] <KK> (I've learned a lot as I've gone along.)
[06:56.06] <friarjohn00> I'm on this Side of the pond. I'm Old Catholic actually.
[06:56.16] <Jemler> the land of beer and hot dogs! :)
[06:56.29] <The_Bee> Old Catholic?
[06:56.55] <Jemler> the ones who still do the mass in latin/
[06:57.00] <Evie> Traditionalist Catholic? So is Aerlys.
[06:57.00] <Jemler> the ones who still do the mass in latin?

[06:57.08] <Shiral> Back for ONE more try
[06:57.08] <The_Bee> rehi shiral
[06:57.10] <Jemler> wb again, Shiral Prime
[06:57.10] <Evie> hi Shiral
[06:57.20] <revanne> wb shiral
[06:57.26] <DesertRose> Aerlys isn't here tonight, but she frequently comes to chat.
[06:57.30] <friarjohn00> Short version: A good deal like Episcopalians/Anglicans but with Continental origins. Some of us do say the Latin Mass, my Parish doesnt.\
[06:57.36] <Shiral> When I'd try typing in Mibbit, I couldn't see what everyone was typing
[06:57.37] <friarjohn00> Hello again Shiral
[06:57.45] * Jemler gives Mibbit a wedgie
[06:57.46] <DesertRose> That's aggravating, Shiral.
[06:57.57] <Shiral> So I went and sulked for a few minutes. =o)
[06:58.01] <DesertRose> LOL
[06:58.05] <revanne> Think they're traditional catholics
[06:58.15] <Evie> you're not having a good relationship with Mibbit tonight, Shiral
[06:58.36] <Shiral> My chatting has been MUCH too interrupted!
[06:58.36] <friarjohn00> Not exactly, my Parish has a Woman Priest.
[06:59.25] <KK> Who is your presiding bishop?
[06:59.43] <revanne> Sorry meant that it was traditional catholics who used the Latin Mass but obviously from your reply Old Catholics do as well
[07:00.35] <Shiral> Tbe pygmy lions are circling hungrily....
[07:00.43] <Shiral> I'd better go feed them
[07:00.44] <DesertRose> "Time to feed the kitties!"
[07:00.50] <friarjohn00> Robert T.Fuentes
[07:01.28] <Evie> I would say "Will no one rid me of this troublesome kitty who is STILL on my arm making it sleep too," but I'm half afraid she'd end up as a martyr if I say that.
[07:01.36] <KK> Ah, that tells me much.  Thanks.
[07:01.42] <DesertRose> LOL, no executing Gigi, Evie. :)
[07:01.55] <friarjohn00> I've come to see Gwynedd as being a mix of the Lorral Missal and Sarum.
[07:02.03] <revanne> Oops just noticed that I'm in danger of turning into a pumpkin so will say goodnight
[07:02.11] <DesertRose> Okay, night, revanne.  See you later!  :)
[07:02.13] <Evie> Goodnight, revanne
[07:02.16] <The_Bee> glad you came, revanne
[07:02.18] <Jemler> nite pumpkin
[07:02.23] <KK> Yep, there are traces of both.
[07:02.27] <KK> Nighters, Revanne.
[07:02.28] <Evie> and belated goodnight to your sis who seems to have disappeared
[07:02.43] <DesertRose> Demercia said good night a while ago, Evie.
[07:02.54] <Evie> I was probably shifting a cat
[07:03.00] <DesertRose> Quite possibly.
[07:03.11] <KK> I'm mostly Celtic Christian and Episcopalian, these days.  I know the Fuestes lines.
[07:03.16] <KK> Fuentes.
[07:03.18] <revanne> She said goodnight a while ago - they have morning prayer in the Cathedral at some unearthly hour so she has to be up early
[07:03.32] <DesertRose> I don't like to see that hour unless I haven't been to bed.
[07:03.44] <KK> IS she also a priest, Revanne?
[07:03.53] <Evie> oh that's right,, I remember now. I need a memory spell
[07:04.04] <DesertRose> Back in the 1980s when we all used to wear denim jackets with smart-alecky buttons on them, I had a button that read " 'Not a morning person' doesn't even begin to cover it."  :D
[07:04.05] <revanne> Yes
[07:04.46] <revanne> She's a Canon in Lichfield Cathedral which I don't dare tell Evie how old it is
[07:04.50] <Jemler> i had one that said "Warning! I'm naked under my clothes"
[07:04.52] <Evie> I have a cross stitching that says "If God had intended us to see mornings, He would have made them later in the day."
[07:04.56] <KK> Ah.  Cool.  What cathedral?
[07:05.07] <Shiral> Back, and suddenly it's quiet, and I"m not typing between furry cat legs, anymore
[07:05.16] <KK> Ah. a;ready answered.
[07:05.23] <friarjohn00> Cool
[07:05.30] <DesertRose> I gave a cross stitch thing to DD that reads "I don't do mornings!" with a mama cat being harassed by three kittens.
[07:05.37] <Evie> I already know you Brits probably have stuff at the back of your refrigerators that is older than my country, so I'm resigned to it. :D
[07:05.45] <DesertRose> LOL, Evie.
[07:05.50] <DesertRose> And yuk.
[07:06.11] <KK> And where is your parish, Revanne?
[07:06.16] <Jemler> question. what the devil is bovril?
[07:06.22] <DesertRose> I had another button that read "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels."
[07:06.24] * The_Bee reminds herself: Google Lorral Missal: and "Sarum."
[07:06.37] <revanne> Just across the river Mersey from Liverpool
[07:06.46] <Evie> She's in a Norman era church that is gorgeous!
[07:07.06] <Jemler> ferry cross the mersey...
[07:07.24] <revanne> Jemler - Bovril is a beef based spread
[07:07.49] <KK> In taste, somewhat akin to Marmite, I think?
[07:08.01] <Evie> Should the words "Beef based spread" ever be used in the same sentence?
[07:08.24] <KK> lol
[07:08.27] <revanne> Not quite as salty but similar sort of thing. Yes if you're talking about Bovril, evie
[07:08.28] <DesertRose> It makes me think of taking Better than Bouillon and using it on a sandwich, which would be dreadfully salty.
[07:08.29] <Evie> at least if not discussing cows having a picnic dinner or a buffet
[07:09.20] <KK> DR, I read the last part of your sentence as "dreadfully silly," then made myself go back and re-read it.
[07:09.25] <DesertRose> LOL
[07:09.28] <Evie> "I'm going to a little soiree, a beef based spread, with Daisy the cow."
[07:09.37] <revanne> On that note /me makes a note to have bovril on toast for breakfast and waves goodbye
[07:09.37] <Jemler> cow goes to a restaurant and orders a "Bucket of cud"
[07:09.39] <Shiral> Don't cows always kind of  having Grass-based picnics?
[07:09.43] <DesertRose> It would be silly, too.
[07:09.51] <KK> Nighters, Revanne.
[07:09.52] <Shiral> Night, Revanne
[07:09.55] <Shiral> Sleep well
[07:09.57] <Jemler> nite revanne
[07:10.01] <DesertRose> Night, revanne.
[07:10.01] <Evie> goodnight

[07:10.08] <The_Bee> bye revanne
[07:10.27] <Jemler> i was watching thre great escape and they mentioned it.
[07:10.41] <The_Bee> KK, have you answered TerryOBrien's question?
[07:10.44] <DesertRose> I've run across the term while reading James Herriot.
[07:10.53] <DesertRose> Bovril, that is.
[07:10.55] <Evie> which general area of the US are you in, FriarJohn? We've got a pretty good range in here.
[07:10.58] <KK> Well, on that note, I think I'd better sign off as well.  I hear a cup of tea and some biscuits calling my name: Katherine......
[07:11.09] <DesertRose> LOL, KK.  Have a good week and thanks for coming to see us!
[07:11.12] <Shiral> Those are some talented biscuits
[07:11.13] <Evie> I'd call an exorcist, KK
[07:11.14] <Shiral> =o)
[07:11.14] <Jemler> nite kk
[07:11.17] <DesertRose> Will we see you next week?
[07:11.20] <Shiral> Night, KK
[07:11.24] <friarjohn00> good night KK
[07:11.24] <The_Bee> bye KK.  thanks foir coming
[07:11.33] <KK> Bee, if it's his question about proofing, I'll get back to him.  My agent agrees in principle.
[07:11.48] <The_Bee> no, it's about a story he sent yhou.
[07:11.48] <KK> Next week, yes, but at 7.
[07:11.54] <DesertRose> Right.  Normal time next week.  :)
[07:11.56] <Evie> I'd be glad to take a look too when time allows
[07:11.58] <Jemler> until then
[07:12.14] <Shiral> When we're all talking, is time ever "normal"? =o)
[07:12.19] <DesertRose> See you then, KK!  Nighters! :D
[07:12.19] <Evie> no
[07:12.29] <Evie> nothing involving this group is normal
[07:12.30] <Jemler> normal? what's that?
[07:12.32] <DesertRose> Normal is a setting on a clothes dryer, really.  I should have said "usual time."
[07:12.33] <Shiral> Night, KK Have a good week and enjoy the tea and biscuits
[07:12.42] <TerryOBrien> Good night Katherine
[07:12.53] <Shiral> I can hear a cold porkchop calling my name fora  late lunch date
[07:12.55] <friarjohn00> Evie: I'm in Maryland
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
