Forgotten Shadows / Re: FS Player Characters
Last post by Laurna - May 08, 2024, 10:19:29 PM
YIKES!!!!  Here I go jumping in to shark infested waters.

Player Name: Laurna

Character Name: Amaryllis (Amy) Aldan

Heritage: Deryni

Heritage Trait: Power

Amy is Deryni but is not aware of this fact. and if and when she does discover this truth she will not understand how this came to be.

-Amy is trained by her grandma as having Second Sight. ie: She can tell if someone is lying. She can sense things that others cannot. (need GM approval for either 1d6 Plus extra pip, or 2d6.)

-Amy is strong in Empathy: reading others emotions and pains. She is not aware that this ability is due to her Power trait, she believes it is from her Second sight training. (need GM approval for either 1d6 Plus extra pip or 2d6)

Additional Traits:
  Perceptive
    Charismatic
    Sneaky

Hit Points: 6

Weapon Proficiency: Light melee Weapons

Weapon Mastery: Dagger

Description: A pretty lass of 21 years old, single, medium height and descent strength due to working first as a servant, then a bar maid and now as an assistant to Elspeth. She has thick, long wavy, ebony colored hair, usually pulled back in a braid, but showing under a short veil. Large eyes of abalone shell gray with hints of lavender depending upon the light and rosy skin tones. Not the slim wisp of a girl that she was in her teens, just a little more mature in her feminine curves. Her clothes are typical for the northern climates usually consisting of three ankle length layers: linen shift, woolen Kirtle, and lightly embroidered surcoat of a faded blue which has a lavender tint due to its age, belted with a functional leather belt for carrying necessary working items on her person. Woolen cloak with hood for those northern rainy days. and thick leather boots. She carries a dagger, a gift from her father, a second smaller dagger in her boot top. The guards working under her father taught her well how to defend her self with those daggers. On her belt hangs a journal in which in her spare time she is copying Elspeth's (her mentor) medical grimoire as she is now starting to learn to use medicine. she carries a few common medical instruments, medicines and bandages but nothing like what Elspeth carries in her own bags. Around Amy's neck is a small silver chain. The chain ends under her shift and only a very few people have seen the signet ring that hangs next to her heart. She receives a small salary from Elspeth and the tavern owner when she does work, but mostly she is paid in lodgings and food. Also her sister's husband sends her an allowance, which she is careful to spend only when needs arise. Elspeth's step-father, who owns the prosperous tavern that Amy works her evenings at, has seen that both Elspeth and Amy have sturdy Cassan Fjord ponies and heavy gear for traveling when they go to the convent outside of town to work there during the day hours.

Belief: Amy is perceptive to the emotions of those near her and to the world that surrounds her. With her ability to feel other's emotions and pain, she has gained a deep compassion to care for others. Her father is a strict man who believes strongly in the king's justice. Good acts require praise and criminal acts require punishment. Torn between her compassion and her father's strict code, she has learned the talent of sneaking out and staying out of sight in order to help others when her father would demand that she stay home.

Family Trade: Amy's father, Arthur Aldan, is the mayor of Droghera, a man elected by the people years ago, with the help of his benefactor, a wealthy nobleman who is a brother to the Baron of Stanzar. Amy's older half-sister, Chrysanthie, is married to Master Stanley, the cheese merchant in Droghera; they have five children, the last are twins. Amy's grandmaman, Dalla, on her mother's side, also lives with them. An elderly woman now, but she was born in Drumlithie near Kearney, and is known for her certain talents of sensing the lay of water beneath the ground and the flare up of fires that get out of hand. It was whispered that she was a seer because she can tell when a man lied, but Dalla was not Deryni, for that had been proven long ago when she was young. Dalla taught her granddaughter the talents she had and called them Second-sight. Amy also has two younger brothers both still living with their father in Droghera. Her mother passed away when she was 16 and her traumatic upset over her mother's death delayed her father from instantly marring her off. He finally sent her to a rich man's estate to work as a servant and to spy for him.

History: Four years back, at the request of her father, she had become a serving girl at the Estate du Chantel. Regularly, she sent coded letters to her father of what was happening at that estate. She hadn't really understood why she had been sent there, the work was hard and tedious, without reward. Then one night a prisoner was brought to the estate and her compassion overcame her discretion. She never knew if her efforts had saved his life, but to save her own life, she ran away, back home, hiding at her half-sister's home until the war with Meara was over. When her father came home from the war, he was furious with her for having left her position at the estate. When she feared his disappointment was too great to bear, she ran away from Droghera. A woman named Elspeth found her, helping her get work at a tavern and later as they became friends began mentoring her in medicine to help people in pain and in need.

General - Deryni / Re: Pages and squires
Last post by DerynifanK - May 08, 2024, 07:38:41 PM
Thanks to everyone for the information. The use of merit rather than age seems the best way and I'm sure Nigel would advance boys from page to squire on that basis,

Forgotten Shadows / FS Factions
Last post by Bynw - May 07, 2024, 03:49:22 PM
I'm not sure how these various factions will play out. I have also not decided there are any game mechanics that go along with these factions. So at this time, Player Characters are not allowed to be any faction except Ordinaries.

But there are several factions both major and minor.

The Camberian Council
Only 7 members are on the CC.

The Order
Feyd's network of spies and assassins.

Kelson's Court
This is King Kelson, his Privy Council, and other members of the royal court.

Custodes
A secret society of Priests who want to re-establish the Statues of Ramos and remove all Deryni from positions of power. Including the King.

Kingsmen
Sworn to uphold the peace between Human and Deryni. They represent the Crown.

New Williamites
Fanatical anti-Deryni Humans that are causing trouble across Gwynedd.

Barwickes
The Deryni answer to the New Williamites and just as deadly.

Ordinaries
Not really a faction. This is everyone else, caught in the middle. Including the Player Characters.

Quote from: Jerusha on May 07, 2024, 02:40:03 PMBynw, on a FS list of traits you include Physicking, a human trait that allows a human to heal (though not in the Deryni sense).  However, on the list above and in Tiny Dungeons it is not listed.  I'd like to use this for my character.  Do you have a more complete definition for this?

Use the Healer trait description in Tiny Dungeons for it.

Nezz's Fanfiction / Re: King's Ride
Last post by Jerusha - May 05, 2024, 04:32:39 PM
I liked this very much, Nezz!  Well done, and I can truly picture Morgan getting increasingly antsy as the winter threatens to close in. Not a man to want to be cooped when something feels so very wrong....

I've enjoyed The Kings Ride, Nezz.  Thanks for posting it.
Like many, I hope that you finish it someday.

Bad health does interrupt the writing.
It's good that you took the time and energy to get this story, however incomplete, posted.
Again, thanks.   :D

Thanks! I've been working on a character to join y'all in the Forgotten Shadows game, so maybe I'll get the opportunity to practice a little more. :)

QuoteAddressing what Laurna mentioned re Alaric being up in Cardosa, based on what Brion tells Kelson on the morning of the hunt, Alaric was in Cardosa at Brion's behest, keeping an eye on "a crisis brewing in Cardosa."
If there ever was a "crisis" beyond just getting Morgan out of sight (out of mind) so the king could quell the rumors, I was never able to find it. Unless the crisis in question is just a matter of Brion sending Morgan to keep an eye on the Torenthi forces. Which doesn't really seem like a "crisis" to me, but hey, I'm sure Brion knows more about it than I do.

QuoteI doubt he meant Alaric to have to stay up in Cardosa all winter--he was much too valuable to Brion to risk his being captured and likely killed by Wencit.
Agreed. That's why I presented Alaric as getting so antsy, knowing he could be trapped in Cardosa any day, once the snows began.

QuoteThe question is whether he was also sent that far away to let the Court calm down about Alaric's  suspected ambition. OR if his being away from Court where nobody knew where he was or why were the REASON the whole court got a bee in their collective bonnet about the possibility that Alaric wanted to usurp the throne--a rumor that wouldn't have raised it's nasty head had Alaric been at Court in plain sight that year.
I think the first. We know that Ian had spent at least three months pushing rumors about Morgan, so I can see loose talk about Morgan swirling throughout most of August and part of September before the King sends him off so that Brion can do damage-control.

QuoteOr possibility three...did Brion and Alaric invent and subtly enhance the rumors to give cover to Alaric's long absence from Rhemuth?
I personally don't think this is the case, as we know that Ian was neck-deep in the Besmirch Morgan ploy.
