Youngest son of Henry Kirby, captain of the Rhafallia, and named after Richard Fitzwilliam, Alaric's squire who died in his arms on board the Rhafallia in Deryni Checkmate. Took service with Dhugal in the 1140's when the latter first started to build a northern fleet the primary purpose of which was to improve the prosperity of the coastal areas of his duchy through trade. As this has developed and gone as far afield as Tolan and the southern shore of the Southern Sea (precious metals are found in Cassan) Kelson has increasingly made use of Richard Kirby for discreet diplomatic purposes. )
Kirby was Knighted by Dhugal after his escapade to burn half the Norse fleet as it was anchored in the loch--- beyond Ballymar.

She is to be brought before Grand Duke Valarian. When the rebellions have won, Valarian intends to present Aliset to Barron Oswarld for his loyalty and successful coup of Ratherkin.
Actually Feyd is not a loyalist to the Mearan cause or even truly a supporter of Duke Teymuraz. Feyd is a hired mercenary with a particular set of skills. That being tracking down Deryni and capturing them. Generally for other Deryni but sometimes for Humans as well. Kinda like a bounty hunter/assassin. He is Torenthi. He has accepted the contract to capture the Duke of Crowyn's younger brother and bring him before the Duke.

Good minor characters, everyone. Nice to know a little about them. I'm curious about the Scholar.

The Scholar is Feyd. Washburn just doesn't know his name.
