[17:27] <jp> I always suspected it was her!
[17:27] <Wrengl> badzis arrived here one day and disappeared without
saying anything
[17:27] <KK> Scott uses my computer all the time--but he wouldn't have
been on mIRC; doesn't know how.
[17:27] <Bynw> someone did
[17:27] <Wrengl> yup
[17:27] <the_Bee> one of the cats?
[17:27] <Mistyck> yep
[17:27] <Wrengl> rd and i were here when it happened
[17:27] <Bynw> and came in here, changed to "badzis" and left
[17:27] <Mistyck> it was at 12:00 on a Sat I think
[17:28] <RainbowDragon> yep
[17:28] <kelric> good. the arrival of the boss :)
[17:28] <Wrengl> tee hee

[17:29] <KK> My two week trip was great!
[17:29] <RainbowDragon> how have you been lo these many weeks?
[17:29] <jemler> Let her catch her breath!
[17:29] * Martine has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:29] <DeryniBot> Hi there Martine! Welcome to the chat.
[17:29] <Mistyck> hiyas Martine
[17:29] <Wrengl> hi martine
[17:29] <Martine> Hi everyone!
[17:29] <the_Bee> hi martine
[17:29] * Wrengl puts out a platter of hummus, bowls of eggplant salad,
babaganush, tabbouleh, taziki, a plate of kibbeh, a basket of warm pita
bread and pita wedges, extra virgin olive oil, mixed olives, shredded
lettuce, tomatoes, tahini sauce
[17:29] * Wrengl puts out kegs of hard cider, beer, brown ale, and tubs
of regular and diet sodas
[17:29] <Bynw> hello mistress of tesseracts
[17:29] <KK> Saw both parental units, sister, and niece.
[17:29] <Martine> lol!
[17:29] <Mistyck> cool!
[17:29] <Wrengl> great
[17:30] <Wrengl> and i presume the retreat
[17:30] <kelric> were you out in the SF area these last 2 weeks KK?
[17:30] <KK> Yep. And we prayed for our health, Wrengl.
[17:30] <Martine> So it was a good trip then?
[17:30] <the_Bee> I hear you've found another house to fix up
[17:30] <KK> Maybe.
[17:30] <KK> Yes, good trip.
[17:30] <KK> Your health, Wrengl.
[17:30] <kelric> at least now I'm closer to Darkover than I used to be.
[17:31] <Mistyck> :)
[17:31] <kelric> maybe I'll actually GET there this year
[17:31] <Mistyck> that would be awesome kelric
[17:31] <the_Bee> where is your grad school?
[17:31] <Wrengl> thanks, katherine, I really appreciate all the prayers
from everyone
[17:32] <kelric> Dominican University in River Forest Illinois.
[17:32] <Samuel> better hurry Kelric. with the attendance the way it's
been the last few years I don't see Darkover lasting much longer.
[17:32] <KK> Great progress on the house while I was gone. I'd say
we're about 98-99% fiished now. Sanded the great hall floor on
Thursday and Friday; more sanding tomorrow, then new varnish. We
discovered that it's about 400 year-old oak!
[17:32] <Martine> wow!!!!!!
[17:32] <slobbit> nice
[17:32] <Mistyck> awesome kk!!
[17:32] <kelric> nice
[17:33] <Martine> Do you think it was reused from the former Georgian
house?
[17:33] <the_Bee> so you can hold druid rituals?
[17:33] <Martine> Or from something else entirely?
[17:33] <KK> No, I think it was probably about 200 years old when it
was cut....
[17:33] <Wrengl> that is awesome, katherine
[17:33] <jp> Heard you might move to Scotland?
[17:34] <Martine> Those must have been some good auld oak trees!
[17:34] <the_Bee> are we talking about the house you've been living in
for years? or the new place?
[17:35] <jp> Impressive cover for Childe Morgan
[17:37] <Martine> LOL yeah, jp. Katherine, I think we're going to have
to renovate Rhemuth Castle's great hall again to fit THAT
architecture... <grin>
[17:37] <KK> No new place yet. We go on the market in a couple or
three weeks.
[17:38] <KK> The cover will catch eyes, even if there no such throne in
Rhemuth....
[17:38] <Wrengl> it IS eye catching
[17:38] <Martine> And that's really the point! It is striking. Made me
giggle to think of shoe-horning it in the floor plans.
[17:39] <Wrengl> katherine, did you read about the american who has
been posing as the earl of buckingham for years, even has a british
passport!
[17:39] <KK> A unique perspective from our Chief Architect! LOL
[17:39] <Wrengl> lol
[17:39] <KK> Earl of Buckingham?! No....
[17:39] <kelric> link for cover please :)
[17:39] <Wrengl> yup
[17:39] <Martine> www.deryni.net
[17:40] <Martine> It's on the home page there; scroll down a bit.
[17:40] <Wrengl> he took an identity based on a baby named christopher
buckingham who died at eight months
[17:40] <kelric> oh my lord.
[17:40] <Wrengl> of course the title has been extinct for centuries
[17:40] <Wrengl> he's even married with a couple of kids
[17:41] <Mistyck> awesome cover art!
[17:41] <KK> Being squirrely doesn't preclude
reproducing--unfortunately.
[17:41] <jp> Does a date exist for a paperback of the updated Deryni
Rising?
[17:41] <Wrengl> indeed katherine
[17:41] <KK> Er--the whole point was do finally do a hardcover. I
hadn't thought to ask.
[17:42] <KK> to do....
[17:42] <RainbowDragon> paperbacks typically come out 6 to 9 months
after the release of the hardback
[17:42] <jemler> KK. Is the cover supposed to be Alaric being
introduced to King Brion?
[17:43] <jemler> KK. Is the cover supposed to be Alaric being
introduced to
[17:43] <jemler> Alaric meeting King Brion?
[17:43] <jp> By all means keep it in hardcover, but some folks are a
bit weird and like to buy paperbacks from my shop
[17:43] <jemler> Alaric meeting Brion?
[17:44] <jemler> Sorry about the stuttering folks!
[17:44] <Bynw> jemler ... you are repeating ... or i'm seeing double
[17:44] <KK> Alaric meeting Donal, being presented at court with his
parents.
[17:44] <RainbowDragon> paperbacks are less expensive, less heavy and
smaller, jp
[17:44] <jemler> Oh ok. I like the lion Throne
[17:45] <Martine> But don't last nearly as long, RD. I've been through
three paperback copies of my favorite books! Still trying to find
out-of-print hardcovers to replace them.
[17:45] <jp> but, like album covers, it's a tactile thing with
hardbacks and thay last longer
[17:45] <the_Bee> who did the cover art?
[17:46] <kelric> heh. for me because of sp[ace isasues in my car, I
was forced to leave almost my whole book library in california for now.
[17:46] <kelric> I've got my codex 2 and my ebook reader as my reading
material
[17:46] <jemler> They read in California?
[17:47] <Martine> lol!
[17:47] <jp> great to see you again KK (badzis) just sold my house, how
much are you asking for the castle
[17:47] <Martine> I did a worse sin, Kelric. I had to put half my books
in storage for space reasons!
[17:47] <jemler> I thought they just tanned!
[17:47] <kelric> which makes me wish that KK's books were available in
ebook format.
[17:47] <kelric> hint hint :)
[17:47] <jemler> kelric, you forgot to wink ;)
[17:48] <jp> night all, will have to check the propety pages for castle
prices
[17:48] * jp Quit
[17:48] * jp has left IRC
[17:49] <kelric> hehe
[17:49] <Martine> Missed him!
[17:49] <Wrengl> everyone missed jp
[17:49] <Martine> Katherine, found a terrific book on sale at the
Cloisters when I was doing a photography assignment there.
"Architecture of the Middle Ages" by Laule, Toman and Bednorz.
[17:49] <kelric> he pulled a dan
[17:50] <jemler> what's "a dan"?
[17:50] * Samuel will have to remember to aim just a bit to the left
next time.
[17:50] <Martine> Coffee-table sized. Haven't even started reading much
of it yet - for once I bought it for the pictures! <lol>
[17:50] <kelric> or was it a sam. I can't remember who the speedy
exiter was
[17:50] <Martine> They give a far better idea of the space and forms
than anything else I've seen.
[17:50] <jemler> You found a book the size of a coffee table?
[17:50] <the_Bee> sam
[17:50] <Martine> A small coffee table ;-)
[17:51] <Martine> It's probably 12x16"
[17:51] <the_Bee> a tea-tray
[17:51] <Martine> The Cloisters museum in NYC has a heavenly bookshop
:-)
[17:52] <Harvey> Do they have any books smaller than 12x16?
[17:52] <Martine> And the museum is terrific too! I've got some of my
"homework" photo essay pictures at
http://www.photo.net/photos/martinelynch
[17:52] <Martine> A few, harvey. They even have some in paperback.
[17:53] <Harvey> 12x16 is an awkward size for a paperback...
[17:53] <the_Bee> what topics?
[17:53] <Martine> mostly medieval art, but a good selection on medieval
sociology and a few on general art.
[17:53] <KK> Sprry, folks, I was printing out a document for Scott, and
had to convert a file.
[17:53] <KK> Sorry
[17:54] <Martine> LOL! Figures that's when I'd be gushing about my new
medieval architecture book!
[17:54] <KK> It sounds great!
[17:55] <jemler> I was just checking out http://www.metmuseum.org
[17:55] <Martine> The photos in it are fabulous - so comprehensive that
they're actually better than reading text.
[17:55] * slobbit is now known as slobbit-motorcycle
[17:55] <Martine> Almost as good as being there :-)
[17:55] <slobbit-motorcycle> brb
[17:55] <jemler> A picture's worth a thousand words.
[17:56] <KK> Re e-books--I've never been able to get enthusiastic about
them. I know it saves space, but they'll never replace books--at least
fiction. Might be ok for reference-type books.
[17:56] <Martine> Yeah, jemler, they have a section on the Cloisters on
that web site.
[17:57] <Harvey> E-books are just another way to get paid for work
you've already done.
[17:57] <Martine> lol harvey!
[17:58] <the_Bee> Stephen King had a pretty good defense of ebooks. It
shouldn'tmatter in what form a creative work is published
[17:59] <KK> Probably true, but I still like real books.
[18:00] <Martine> paper is easier on the eyes in mass quantities :-)
[18:00] <the_Bee> me too. I can curl up in my comfy chair to read them
[18:00] <KK> Absolutely.
[18:00] <Bynw> i have several gaming books as ebooks ... they are
convient on my puter but nothing beats holding the book in your hand
[18:00] <jemler> In my books, all my favorite passages are marked.
[18:01] <Wrengl> i prefer real books
[18:01] <Mistyck> same here
[18:01] <Mistyck> can take it anywhere
[18:01] <KK> Marking is one advantage; post-it flags are another.
[18:01] <Wrengl> yup
[18:01] <jemler> One good thing about e-books, is they don't take up
space on your shelf!
[18:02] <Wrengl> lol
[18:02] <kelric> heh. for me it's more the space issue, not that I
haven't ALREADY bought copies of all the KK books and wouldn't buy them
[18:02] <Harvey> I prefer real books. I don't like to read e-books.
(I read 3 to find out, and didn't like it.)
[18:02] <Wrengl> i have never read an ebook
[18:02] <Wrengl> i want to be able to take a book to bed with me
[18:02] <kelric> as these guys know I literally moved from sf to
chicago last weekend and didnt' have room in my car for a lot of
physical books
[18:02] <jemler> I've read about a dozen.
[18:02] <Wrengl> or to chemo
[18:03] <KK> But, I <like> rows of books on the shelves! And when that
first book arrived through the post, back in 1970, it just wouldn't
have been the same if it had been a CD, or a gizmo that looks like a
UPS tracking pad!
[18:03] <Harvey> But, I was also talking to another author who said
that while the money is small, it's steady. His theory was that right
now the people who read e-books have less quality books to choose
between, so the competition is less.
[18:03] <Mistyck> yep
[18:03] <jemler> True. But aren't you judging an e-book by its cover?
[18:03] <Harvey> Later, there will be more e-books available (all the
out-of-print stuff). But, he thought that right now it's a less
competitive field.
[18:04] <Harvey> I found that interesting since the e-books people seem
to have as one of their main preaching points that they have more books
availble than print.
[18:04] <kelric> heh. when I get done with my grad school then I'll be
able to buy a house and get shelf space for my real books (which are
all in packing boxes).
[18:05] <Wrengl> all of my military history books are in boxes in
storage
[18:05] <Wrengl> :(
[18:05] <KK> Could be; great for getting OP books back into print, I
suppose. But I wouldn't want first publication in E-format.
[18:05] <Wrengl> nor would i
[18:05] <Martine> At any one given time in active print, they may be
right, harvey.
[18:05] <Harvey> no.
[18:05] <Harvey> Not first publication.
[18:06] <kelric> Nor would I.
[18:06] <jemler> How would you autograph it?
[18:06] <Harvey> I think they may be right in the future as more stuff
gets loaded as e-books.
[18:06] <kelric> I like to buy my books first in HB.
[18:06] <Wrengl> depends on the author
[18:06] <Harvey> But, too much of what I see as e-books is from
unrecognized names, and from the description I wouldn't have bought it
in print.
[18:06] <Wrengl> always buy katherine in hardback
[18:07] <Wrengl> and sneaky pie brown
[18:07] <Harvey> Of course, I'm the guy that has something like 10,000
books too.
[18:07] <kelric> 60% of the stuff in my ebook I got from the Baen free
CDs. the rest of it is all fanfictions that I've converted to the
ebook format
[18:07] <jemler> How did you convert them? What program did you use?
[18:07] <kelric> though I'd LOVE to complete a collection of Honor
Harrington hardbacks. though THAT's going to be hard
[18:07] <KK> Wrengl, what are your books doing in storage? Shortage of
shelving in your house?
[18:07] <Harvey> Which are you looking for Kelric?
[18:08] <Wrengl> no, in a storage facility
[18:08] <kelric> Lesse. I have On Basilisk Station, Ashes of Victory,
War of Honor and At All Costs in Hardback.
[18:08] <Wrengl> which means i can't get to any of my battle of britan
or army of northern virginia books
[18:09] <Wrengl> unless they are recent
[18:09] <Harvey> OK. I'll keep a look out for any others.
[18:09] <Wrengl> we did not have room in the bronx and then ran out of
room here
[18:09] <kelric> For the ebookwise ebook I purchased you can load books
onto it from their website via a phone line, or you can buy their off
site library program and download books (or create your own from other
formats) to your computer and then use a usb cable to transfer them to
the book.
[18:09] <KK> Why are they in a storage unit, though? It was bad enough
having boxes of books stored in the dining room, before we started the
restoration.
[18:09] <jemler> Oh KK. I was told you wanted to be told about errors
in Codex.
[18:10] <Wrengl> i don't have room in the house!
[18:10] <KK> Hmmm, sounds like a bigger house is in the cards for you,
Pat!
[18:10] <Wrengl> actually we have just never gotten the shelves of
fabric from the sitting room up to the studio
[18:10] <Wrengl> so that we can put the book shelves from ikea that i
bought in 2001 together
[18:10] <Martine> When Pat trades up, I'll take one the size of hers!
<g>
[18:10] <KK> Codex errors--you mean, like the one about Marie's cause
of death? Haven't a clue where he got that.
[18:11] <Wrengl> we already HAVE 15 rooms
[18:11] <jemler> No, this was under Camberian Council. It never
mentioned that Kelson was offered a seat and turned it down.
[18:11] <Harvey> I got the bookcases from Ikea with the shelf
extensions on top, Wrengl, and they have been amazing to get things
organized.
[18:11] <Harvey> Of course, I have the hardcovers double-shelved, which
doesn't look as good.
[18:11] <KK> Then, some sorting and reorganizing is in order, I
suspect. Which is what I was doing all day today.
[18:11] <Wrengl> oh i should be able to get the military history into
the ones we have
[18:12] <Martine> Purging can be good for the soul, right, Katherine?
:-)
[18:12] * Bynw is now known as Bynw-brb
[18:12] <Wrengl> we have ten stuffed book cases in the house, taller
than me which, i admit is not hard
[18:12] <Martine> With our whopping 800 sq ft house, purging is a
bi-monthly chore :-P
[18:12] <KK> Actually, yes. And I get to share things with friends, as
I recycle some things.
[18:12] <Wrengl> and more books in boxes on shelves in the house
[18:13] <Wrengl> i try to share some of the fiction
[18:13] <Harvey> I have 8-foot shelves (taller than Wrengl)
[18:13] <Wrengl> and i finally finished Fiery Cross this week
[18:13] <Wrengl> ours are seven feet high, i think
[18:13] <the_Bee> reading it or writing it?
[18:13] <Wrengl> lol
[18:13] <Wrengl> reading it, bee
[18:14] <Wrengl> took me three years
[18:14] <Wrengl> i found much of it boring
[18:14] <Harvey> If you have the Ikea ones, Wrengl, they make a
shel-extension to put on top which gives you one more shelf and uses
more vertical space. (This is the Billy style.)
[18:14] <Wrengl> not as good as the books before it
[18:14] <the_Bee> who did write it?
[18:14] <Wrengl> it is billy style that i have
[18:14] <Harvey> It's another $30 or so, but worth it for the extra
shelf (if you have the vertical space in the room where they live).
[18:15] <Wrengl> diane gabalon (sp)
[18:15] <Harvey> Plus, the boxes are small enough to bring home in the
car.
[18:15] <the_Bee> oh yes. the time-traveling wife
[18:15] <Wrengl> oh we have very high ceilings
[18:15] <Wrengl> we live in a turn of the 20th century brownstone
[18:15] <Wrengl> yes bee
[18:16] <Wrengl> and i have doors for two of the book cases, harvey
[18:16] <Wrengl> since some of the raf and army of northern virginia
books are quite old and rare
[18:16] <Harvey> Actually only $20
[18:16] <Harvey>
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=11358
[18:16] <KK> Fiery Cross was not her best. I, too, found some of it
plodding.
[18:16] <Wrengl> some of the rfc books are also
[18:16] <Harvey> I haven't seen doors for the extensions though, so it
would detract from the appearance a bit.
[18:17] <Wrengl> true
[18:17] <Wrengl> although i could probably do extensions for the units
without doors
[18:17] <Harvey> Maybe $25 depending on the color and width of your
shelves.
[18:17] <KK> Yikes, it's after midnight, folks. Gotta dash. Hope to
check in again next week.
[18:17] <kelric> catch you later kk
[18:18] <Martine> Night, Katherine!
[18:18] <Harvey> Good to see you!
[18:18] <KK> Good to chat with all of you again.
[18:18] <kelric> night
[18:18] <Wrengl> night katherine
[18:18] <Mistyck> take care Katherine
[18:18] <the_Bee> glad you made it tonight, KK see you next week?
[18:18] <Mistyck> sleep well
[18:18] <Wrengl> great seeking you again
[18:18] <the_Bee> nighters, KK
[18:18] <Wrengl> been forever long since you stopped by!
[18:18] <Wrengl> ;)
[18:18] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles.
[18:18] <Wrengl> night katherine
[18:18] <jemler> latter kk

[16:24] <RainbowDragon> good good!
[16:24] <Mistyck> very cool!
[16:24] <Shiral> Have you found an alternative nest to buy?
[16:24] <Wrengl> great about the house
[16:24] <KK> And the copy-edited manuscript of Childe Morgan arrives
tomorrow, and must be back by mid-June. Gak! Great timing!
[16:25] <Wrengl> indeed
[16:25] <KK> Not yet.
[16:25] <Shiral> Gak, that's a quick turnaround
[16:25] <KK> We have some possibilities, but nothing definite yet.
[16:25] <Wrengl> good luck on the house hunting
[16:26] <Wrengl> staying in Ireland?
[16:26] <Shiral> Hope you find a place before someone buys Holybrooke
out from under you. Hard to write in the road. =o)

[16:26] <DeryniBot> Hi there the_Bee! Welcome to the chat.
[16:26] <KK> They usually allow about three weeks, so this is on
target.
[16:27] <RainbowDragon> Hi, Bee
[16:27] <Wrengl> hi bee
[16:27] <Shiral> Hello Bee
[16:27] <KK> Even once it sells, we'll have at least 30 days before the
sale is completed.
[16:27] <the_Bee> hi pat and rd. hello KK
[16:27] <KK> Yes, we're staying in Ireland.
[16:28] <Wrengl> by the way, lbarms says hello to everyone
[16:28] <Shiral> Hello back to Laura
[16:28] <KK> How and where is she?
[16:28] <Wrengl> i shall tell her
[16:28] <Wrengl> pretty busy
[16:28] <jemler> hi there, KK, Bee, Shiral
[16:28] <Shiral> Hi Jemler
[16:29] <KK> So, is everyone having a good Memorial Day weekend?
[16:29] <Mistyck> so far yes
[16:29] <Shiral> Pretty tame, but pleasant enough
[16:29] <the_Bee> a fairly normal day for me.
[16:29] <Wrengl> she says: Things are OK here. I had my first day off
since returning from Emergency leave on the 19th of April. It was nice
to just relax for a day. Give my greetings to the newsgroup for me.
[16:29] <Wrengl> warm but nice
[16:29] <jemler> nice and warm here
[16:30] <KK> Do we know why she was on Emergency Leave?
[16:30] <Wrengl> made fried chicken last night with potato salad and
broccali slaw
[16:30] <the_Bee> an that put laura on emergency leave?
[16:30] <Wrengl> grilling chicken thighs tonight that i parinated in a
Jamaican garlic sauce and stones ginger wine
[16:30] <KK> Broccoli slaw? As in, you shred broccoli?
[16:30] <Shiral> It must have been the Broccoli slaw that necessitated
the emergency leave
[16:30] <jemler> No comment on that one, Wrengl
[16:31] <Wrengl> yup although it comes in a package, we could not find
pre-shredded cabbage
[16:31] <the_Bee> I once had a recipe for chicken with garlic and
sherry
[16:31] <Wrengl> laura's brother died suddenly
[16:31] <the_Bee> ah :(
[16:31] <Shiral> Oh dear, that's awful!
[16:31] <Tika> :(
[16:32] <Mistyck> oh no!
[16:32] <Wrengl> and i believe she had gone home because of death of
father in law and then they found her brother
[16:32] <Mistyck> oh my god!
[16:32] <KK> We had rack of lamb with lots of garlic rubbed all over,
for dinner tonight--a special treat. It was yummy!
[16:32] <Wrengl> so the emergency leave was extended
[16:32] <jemler> Sounds like my family.
[16:32] <KK> Good heavens, poor Laura!
[16:32] <Wrengl> that sounds good katherine
[16:32] <Shiral> Poor Laura indeed. A double Whammy
[16:32] <Bynw> that sounds yummy KK ... need to have some of that

[16:33] <RainbowDragon> Hi Martine
[16:33] <Mistyck> hiyas Beth

[16:33] <RainbowDragon> Hi slobbit
[16:33] <slobbit> hi all
[16:33] <the_Bee> hi slobbit hi shiral
[16:33] <ambush> crap keyboard here
[16:33] <Shiral> Hi Slobbit
[16:33] <Wrengl> hi slobbit
[16:33] <ambush> not gonna talk much
[16:34] <Wrengl> poor ambush
[16:34] <Shiral> You need to ambush a new keyboard, Ambush
[16:34] <Tika> lol
[16:34] <Wrengl> lol
[16:34] <Wrengl> but indeed you do
[16:34] <ambush> lol
[16:34] <Martine> Urgh..... full frontal kitty attack on lap.......
[16:34] <Wrengl> lol
[16:35] <KK> Which one, Martine?
[16:35] <the_Bee> if we develop our deryni mind powers we won't need
keyboards ;)
[16:35] <jemler> ambush, you get a new keyboard, I'll learn to type!
[16:35] <Wrengl> we have rehomed violet and two of the babies
[16:35] <Martine> Rowena, of course. Ms Velcro.
[16:35] <Wrengl> lol jemler
[16:35] <Wrengl> and locket ran away
[16:35] <KK> Violet was which one?
[16:35] <Wrengl> one of the charmed ones
[16:35] <jemler> KK Violet was the purple one!
[16:36] <Martine> lol
[16:36] <Wrengl> as was locket but he is not a nice kitty at all
[16:36] <the_Bee> I never saw a purple cat...
[16:36] <Wrengl> she and scarlett are solid black
[16:36] <Shiral> Purple Tabby--Very rare breed
[16:36] <Wrengl> they were named for the kitty collars we bought for
them
[16:36] <Martine> Not that rare, Shiral. Rowena fits that description
when she decides it's naptime on my stamping ink pads!
[16:37] <Wrengl> scarlett go out of hers immediately but violet kept
hers on for months
[16:37] <KK> Well, I hope they went to good homes--not that you would
allow them to go anywhere else. Maybe they'll be happier there.
[16:37] <ambush> lol
[16:37] <Wrengl> probably
[16:37] <Wrengl> and fewer cats means less chaos in the house
[16:37] <KK> So, how many are you down to now?
[16:37] <Shiral> Tell me about it, Martine. My paint pallette has
little cat hairs stuck in all the little paint compartments
[16:37] * Bynw wishes he had some chaos
[16:37] <Wrengl> i may even be able to put things back in the pantry so
i can get at canned and jared goods!
[16:38] <Shiral> If a Painting doesn't have a cat hair on it, it ain't
a Houle
[16:38] <KK> lol
[16:38] <Wrengl> four downstairs one on second floor and four on third
[16:38] <KK> Wrengl, I take it that your cats nest on the shelves?
[16:38] <Wrengl> although we would like to find homes for madam and
scarlett also
[16:38] <Wrengl> yup
[16:38] <Martine> LOL Shiral! Just remember... in the crafting world,
fur is a fiber!
[16:38] <Shiral> Even two cats can fill an apartment
[16:38] <the_Bee> do you ever intentionally work the cat hairs into the
design?
[16:39] <jemler> Try Tara for Scarlett, if you can find someone to give
a damn :)
[16:39] <Shiral> Nina and Francesca have battles and chase each other
around the whole apartment on a daily basis
[16:39] <Wrengl> this is true shiral
[16:39] <Wrengl> lol jemler
[16:39] <jemler> Someone got it huh? Poor joke!
[16:39] <slobbit> we're blaming our cat for the unexpected failure of
our shower curtain rod yesterday
[16:39] <slobbit> it's a complete loss . . .
[16:40] <Shiral> I think upon reflection that bringing a pregnant
teenage cat into Pan's later life must have been very stressful for the
poor old dear
[16:40] <Wrengl> the big problem is that frankie (baby huey) flies
around and he is big and less than graceful
[16:40] <jemler> Are you sure it wasn't Norman Bates?
[16:40] <KK> Oh, dear! Been there, done that--or coped with that.
[16:40] <slobbit> the cat had that air of culpability about him
[16:40] <slobbit> Norman acted innocent enough
[16:40] <Wrengl> lol slobbit
[16:40] <KK> Actually, Shiral, a young cat can and usually does add
years to an older cat's life; recharges them.
[16:41] <Wrengl> yes it does
[16:41] <Shiral> yes, kk
[16:41] <Shiral> And I think Pan did sometimes like the company
[16:41] <Wrengl> once he got used to the youngsters i am sure life was
more interesting for him.
[16:41] <slobbit> even tho they might detract from the owners'
[16:41] <Shiral> But Nina bullied him--there's no way to sugarcoat that
one. =o)
[16:41] <Bynw> i think a young cat can add years to an older dog's life
too
[16:41] <KK> And I'm sure that Unca Pan enjoyed having the two young
ladies around him in his last months.
[16:41] <Martine> LOL! I think Rowena must have been secretly tutoring
Nina.
[16:41] <jemler> I would
[16:42] <Bynw> which is why Neko is still at my mom's house taking care
of her and Peaches
[16:42] <Shiral> Francesca was more sedate company for him, and they
did like cuddling up together in the cold
[16:42] <Shiral> But NIna pestered Unka Pan
[16:42] <KK> Nothing like another cat to help warm an old cat's bones.
[16:42] <Wrengl> well see he had a friend in francesca
[16:43] <KK> Kittens always pester older cats.
[16:43] <Shiral> This is true
[16:43] <Shiral> I was quite a sight this past winter-- me on the sofa
burried under three cats
[16:43] <Shiral> =o)
[16:44] <Martine> Aw! You should have had someone take a picture!
[16:44] <Bynw> must have been warm for you Shiral .... i liked being
burried under cats on a winter night
[16:44] <Shiral> Too late now, I guess. Ah well.
[16:44] <Martine> me too!
[16:44] <Shiral> I do too, Bynw. But it's a little easier under two
than three
[16:45] <Martine> Wish Rowena would stop the furry furnace act once the
mercury rises above 80, though! <pant pant>
[16:45] <jemler> I'll stick with Cindy Crawford!
[16:45] <Shiral> LOL, does she have fur?
[16:45] <Shiral> Katherine, how can you manage with six furry people
when the temperature drops?
[16:45] <jemler> No, but if you pet her just right, she purrs!
[16:45] <Martine> If she does, she sure has a heck of a wax job done!
[16:46] * Bynw knew that KK was coming to the chat today :o)
[16:46] <KK> We regularly have 2-3 cats on the bed at night; and we've
had as many as four.
[16:46] <Martine> Arwen's getting brave lately. There've been two
nights in the last month when she sneaked into our bedroom after Rowena
fell asleep and made a nest for herself on the dresser.
[16:47] <Shiral> Nina's an undercover type of cat
[16:47] <jemler> Are they sleeping in your bed, or are yuo sleeping in
theirs?
[16:47] <Shiral> But she's ruined some of my fitted sheets catching
bedmice
[16:47] <Martine> lol!
[16:47] <Martine> Jemler, that depends on whether you're looking at it
from the cat's or person's point of view!
[16:47] <Martine> brb, need to put dinner in oven
[16:47] <jemler> lol
[16:48] <Wrengl> she's sleeping in theirs of course
[16:48] <the_Bee> shiral: did you ever read the mystery novel
"Undercover Cat"?
[16:48] <Shiral> From the cat's point of view, everything belongs to
the cat
[16:48] <Shiral> No, I haven't Bee
[16:48] <KK> Arwen and Rowena in the same room, and by choice! It's a
miracle!
[16:48] <the_Bee> It's hilarious!
[16:49] <KK> I'm presently reading a book on Cathedral Cats--a photo
book about cats who live in and around some of the best cathedrals in
the UK.
[16:49] <Martine> back
[16:49] <the_Bee> church cats to catch church mice?
[16:49] <RainbowDragon> There are cats which actually live in
cathedrals?
[16:49] <KK> It's quite well written, as well as being very well
photographed.
[16:50] <Shiral> And who appreciate the magnificence of their setting,
I'm sure
[16:50] <Martine> It was, KK! And she's tried it again!
[16:50] <KK> They do, indeed.
[16:50] <Martine> Though Rowena catches her more often than not, and
then it's all over.
[16:50] <Wrengl> poor arwen
[16:50] <KK> Sounds like Arwen is developing some backbone--and really
wants to be with her humans at night.
[16:50] <Wrengl> have you started on high deryni yet katherine?
[16:51] <Shiral> Interestingly enough, Nina is turning into the
dominant cat. I keep telling Francesca she needs to keep her kitten
under a firm paw, but it doesn't help, much!
[16:51] <Martine> Arwen hasn't developed much backbone - she still cows
to Rowena every time. She's just gotten more desperate for company, I
think.
[16:51] <KK> I'm about a quarter of the way through, but haven't picked
it up all month, since I got back from the States.

[16:51] <jemler> hey deb!
[16:51] <the_Bee> hi debbie
[16:51] <Debbie-VB> hi katherine!!!!!!
[16:51] <Shiral> Hi Debbie
[16:52] <Martine> Nina sounds like she's turning into a little Rowena.
They must be secretly communicating....
[16:52] <Debbie-VB> Hi everyone
[16:52] <KK> hi, deb.
[16:52] <RainbowDragon> Hi, Debbie
[16:52] <Martine> hi Debbie
[16:52] <Shiral> Yup, With little Kitty Chat devices <G>
[16:53] <KK> I wonder if those require a full moon....
[16:53] <Martine> Nope, just telepathy <g>
[16:53] <Shiral> It helps if you do it at the full moon on Midsummer's
Eve, though
[16:53] <KK> Well, that's coming up soon....
[16:53] <Martine> When they have that far-off stare that looks right
through you. That's when they must be conversing.
[16:53] <the_Bee> I'd think a cat would function well under the dark of
the moon--when hecate/witchcraft in in power
[16:54] <Shiral> If cats can live near cathedrals, why not near
neolithic standing stones? =o)
[16:54] <Martine> Cats will live anywhere that it suits them.
[16:55] <jemler> Like CatMandu? <heh>
[16:55] <KK> Well, of course they can and do, Shiral.
[16:55] <Shiral> Francesca's just staring at me now, and I can easily
see what she's trying to commuicate
[16:55] <RainbowDragon> there must be sunlit spots though... and at
least one high perch
[16:55] <Martine> Like an overheating lap on a hot summery day....
<take the HINT, Rowena!>
[16:55] <Martine> LOL Shiral! Let me guess..... feed me?
[16:55] <KK> Is it a hot, summery day today in NJ?
[16:55] <Shiral> Wow, she's really transmitting clearly, Martine!
[16:55] <Debbie-VB> either that or pay attention to ME, not that screen
[16:55] <Shiral> Since it's getting all the way to NJ
[16:55] <Martine> Sure is. Went from 60s to a brief 2-day stint in 70s,
and now 85.
[16:55] <Wrengl> it is a warm summery day in brooklyn today
[16:55] <Martine> And humid.
[16:55] <Shiral> A little of both, Debbie
[16:56] <KK> yuck!
[16:56] <Wrengl> yup humid
[16:56] <KK> It was gorgeous here today.
[16:56] <RainbowDragon> It made it to the low 90's in Missouri
[16:56] <Shiral> This is spring--don't blink you might miss it
[16:56] <Wrengl> i made sure to be finished my walk before ten this
morning
[16:56] <Martine> It's like Memorial Day Weekend came and summer
suddenly turned on!
[16:56] <KK> yuck!
[16:56] <Shiral> It's windy and in the low 70's on the West Coast where
I am
[16:56] <Wrengl> i am back to walking, albeit not the distance I was
before the white cell crash
[16:56] <Martine> You tease, Shiral!
[16:56] <Mistyck> cloudy and warm on the gulf coast
[16:56] <Shiral> I know, sorry
[16:57] <the_Bee> is your white count better, pat?
[16:57] <jemler> Warm in Ohio, not humid at all.
[16:57] <Shiral> (But not VERY sorry....)
[16:57] <Wrengl> yes
[16:57] <Debbie-VB> we had a lovely week until victoria day weekend
then It suddenly went back to being the we(s)t coast here
[16:57] <Martine> John and I have been talking about hiking in New York
state tomorrow. I think we'll end up doing more strolling until we get
used to the weather :)
[16:57] <Wrengl> it seems to be around normal
[16:57] <the_Bee> :)
[16:57] <Wrengl> next blood test is on 5 June for chemo on 7 june
[16:57] <slobbit> good luck, Wrengl
[16:57] <jemler> Good luck, Wrengl!
[16:58] <Shiral> GOod luck, Pat
[16:58] * Debbie-VB sends wrengle some good-blood-test woodgies
[16:58] <Shiral> Tell those white cell counts to behave
[16:58] <Martine> Yeah, what Shiral said!
[16:58] <jemler> copycat
[16:58] <Wrengl> thanks all
[16:58] <Shiral> Mrraow
[16:58] * Martine scritches Shiral behind the ears to see what happens
[16:59] <Shiral> Martine, what is a hike if not a very long stroll?
[16:59] <jemler> here kitty kitty kity....
[16:59] <Wrengl> actually this new drug (taxol) seems to be doing okay
with me
[16:59] <KK> Excellent!
[16:59] <Mistyck> good to hear that Pat
[16:59] <Martine> LOL! A hike at a much slower, more leisurely pace, of
course! :-)
[16:59] * Shiral flops down on the floor and presents a scratchable
tummy
[16:59] <the_Bee> is that the one made from yew?
[16:59] <Wrengl> and I even have some fuzz on my hair although
oncologist said i waould lose what little i had
[16:59] <KK> Just so long as it's baaaaad for the cancer cells!
[16:59] <Shiral> It's all in the attitude.
[16:59] <Wrengl> indeed
[16:59] * jemler scratches Shirals' tummy...
[17:00] <Shiral> Tell me I'm going on a stroll, and I'll come quite
willingly. Say the "H-word" and I'll come down with any ailment I can
think of to avoid it.
[17:00] <Wrengl> i will find out in july when i see the gynocologist
for my three month check up
[17:00] * Shiral purrs and drools
[17:00] <Debbie-VB> I've got lots of extra hair Pat. You can have some
of mine if you want
[17:00] <Martine> lol shiral!
[17:00] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[17:00] <Martine> But the scenery is worth it! We're hiking the grounds
at Mohonk Mountain House!
[17:00] * jemler keeps scratching...
[17:00] <Wrengl> some days I walk fairly fast and somedays it is just a
stroll
[17:01] <Shiral> Everytime I have a session with Francesca, she drools
absolute rivers to show her pleasure
[17:01] <Martine> Of Rakovian mayhem "Mahican" inspiration fame :-)
[17:01] <Wrengl> then i feel like I have failed somehow.
[17:01] <Martine> LOL! Sounds like you need to keep a towel handy,
Shiral!

[17:01] <jemler> hey dov
[17:01] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, Dov
[17:01] <Wrengl> it was VERY frustrating not being able to walk
[17:01] <Shiral> Too right
[17:01] <Wrengl> hi dov

[17:01] <Shiral> Give yourself a break, Pat
[17:01] <Dov> Welcome, Katherine
[17:02] <Wrengl> but i made 2.5 miles this morning
[17:02] <Debbie-VB> hi dov
[17:02] <Shiral> I'm sure you're doing more than I would be donig
[17:02] <Martine> Pat, rather than getting frustrated, you should be

[17:02] <jemler> hey Sam
[17:02] <Wrengl> hi sam
[17:02] <Shiral> I haven't done 2.5 miles, and I don't have cancer!
[17:02] <Martine> hi sam
[17:02] <Shiral> hi sam
[17:02] <the_Bee> hi sam
[17:02] <Bynw> hiyas sam
[17:02] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[17:02] <Wrengl> it is all part of not giving in
[17:02] <Shiral> I have done my bellydance fitness routine, though
[17:02] <Wrengl> besides I sleep better and feel better when I do a
good walk
[17:03] <KK> Strolls are good. Thursday after the crew had left, Scott
and I piled into the Morgan with Oswald in the back seat, and drove
down to the seafront for an ice cream and a stroll on the beach.
Oswald got a cone too, but in a cup--and daintily lapped up every
smidgen. He then proceeded to exhaust himself by happily running up
and down the beach--and collapsed in a heap after dinner, snoring
magnificently. I think he loved it.
[17:03] <jemler> Shiral, you're a bellydancer?
[17:03] <Shiral> And it must be good for the spirits, too
[17:03] <Shiral> Umm... not as such, Jemler
[17:03] <Debbie-VB> I found some bellydance fitness DVDs recently.
It';s kind of fun, but very hard work
[17:03] <Wrengl> i am sure he did katherine
[17:03] <Martine> that sounds like a doggy heaven daytrip, Katherine!
[17:03] <Shiral> I put a fitness DVD in my player and follow along with
two smiling, Sadistic ladies named Veena and Neena
[17:03] <Wrengl> it is good for the spirits
[17:03] <Shiral> But their bodies don't lie
[17:04] <Wrengl> lol
[17:04] <Shiral> It's been very good for shrinking my spare tire
[17:04] <KK> Yep. He hadn't been to the beach since his accident, or
without Scrappy, so he loved it.
[17:04] <Wrengl> most of the belly dancers i know are large women, like
bambi and sometimes bigger
[17:04] <Shiral> Sounds like an Ideal day for Oswald, KK <G>
[17:04] <Shiral> Out for a run with his Humans!
[17:04] <Martine> And now that's made me want to run for ice cream! <g>
[17:04] <Wrengl> yes it does sound like he had a great time
[17:04] <KK> He ran; we strolled. :-)
[17:04] <Wrengl> and ice cream too
[17:04] <Shiral> Sit, Martine
[17:05] <Martine> Yes, ma'am!
[17:05] <Wrengl> lol martine
[17:05] <Samuel> bellydance was originally a way for women to
strengthen their pelvic muscles to get ready for childbirth.
[17:05] <Shiral> No doubt the beach was very exciting and smelly for
him
[17:05] <Wrengl> very true sam
[17:05] <KK> Good on ya, Shiral!
[17:05] <the_Bee> so i've heard
[17:05] <Debbie-VB> so I understand Samuel
[17:05] <Shiral> Nothing so fecund for me, Sam
[17:05] <Dov> any leads on the house search, katherine?
[17:05] <Wrengl> and bambi is a very good belly dancer
[17:05] <Martine> oven beeped! brb
[17:05] <Shiral> But after doing it since January, I do notice a
difference
[17:05] <Wrengl> i have seen her perform
[17:05] <Debbie-VB> even though childbirth probably won't happen to me
[17:05] <Shiral> But I do NOT put on anything revealing while I do it
<G>
[17:06] <jemler> Who's Bambi?
[17:06] <KK> He found a particularly intriguing piece of driftwood that
he carried around for about 5 min., stopping occasionally to chew on
it.
[17:06] <Wrengl> Martine, let me know if you find blue bunny ice cream
in any supermarket by you
[17:06] <Debbie-VB> Blue Bunny Ice Cream????
[17:06] <Wrengl> bambi is someone who comes to darkover, jemler, and is
in SCA
[17:06] <Shiral> I didn't know how much tension I had in my shoulders
until I had to learn to wiggle them around rapidly
[17:06] <jemler> I've heard of dust bunnies, and Easter bunnies but Ice
Cream?
[17:06] <the_Bee> blueberry flavor? or bunny flavor? :)
[17:06] <Shiral> Now I can do a much better shoulder shimmy than I used
to be able to do
[17:07] <Bynw> blue bunny is a brand of ice cream sillys
[17:07] <Wrengl> blue bunny is the company and they have some
intriguing no sugar added flavours
[17:07] <Shiral> Blue Bunny---Is that Peep Ice Cream?
[17:07] <RainbowDragon> Nobody does a better shoulder shimmy than Pat
Benatar
[17:07] <Samuel> Dust bunny flavored blue bunny ice cream?
[17:07] <jemler> Are you sure it isn't Blue Bonnet?
[17:07] <Wrengl> yup
[17:07] <Wrengl> it is blue bunny
[17:07] <Bynw> RainbowDragon, very true
[17:07] * kelricwatchingspamalot is now known as Kelric
[17:07] <Dov> no there really is a blue bunny brand
[17:07] <Wrengl> blue bonnet does margarine
[17:07] <Wrengl> wb kelric
[17:08] <RainbowDragon> welcome back, Kelric
[17:08] <Bynw> blue bonnet is a different brand name
[17:08] <Wrengl> how was the show?
[17:08] <Shiral> Hip shimmies are very good for everything between the
waist and the knees
[17:08] <Shiral> Hi Kelric
[17:08] <KK> LOL, we really do get off on some--er--unusual
discussions. Myself, I prefer Moose Tracks.
[17:08] <jemler> Pat Benatar is Wrengls' real name, right?
[17:08] <Wrengl> i'm sure they are shiral
[17:08] <Dov> wb kelric
[17:08] <Debbie-VB> I'm not too good yet at hip shimmies
[17:08] <Wrengl> tee hee but no jemler
[17:08] <Kelric> lol rotfl lolsmIrotflmao
[17:08] <RainbowDragon> We discuss it all here. Don't we, KK? :-)
[17:08] <Shiral> But there are a LOT more ways to move one's hips than
I ever suspected before I started this!
[17:09] <KK> Yike, both Shiral and Dabbie are going belly dancing?
[17:09] <the_Bee> Is Hood Ice Cream available in the rest of the USA,
or it it mainly in New England?
[17:09] <Shiral> I don't GO anywhere, I do this in the privacy of my
livingroom!
[17:09] <jemler> Where do I put the dollar?
[17:09] <Martine> back!
[17:09] <Shiral> But if you can do bellydance fitness routines under
the scornful eyes of cats, then you've got something
[17:09] <Martine> How much floor space does the belly dancing routines
need?
[17:09] <Debbie-VB> with the drapes pulled so as to not scare the
neighbors
[17:09] <KK> In an envelope, Jemler, and then in the post, addressed to
Shiral--and another to Debbie!
[17:09] <Dov> :)
[17:09] <Bynw> jemler, no Pat Benatar is a female rocker who has been
called the Queen of Rock'n'Roll
[17:09] <Martine> rotfl shiral! isn't that the truth?
[17:09] <Shiral> Just throw 'em on the rug, Jemler. I'll rake up later!
[17:10] <Shiral> Not all that much
[17:10] <Kelric> Spamalot was great.
[17:10] <Kelric> if it comes to your town, watch it
[17:10] <Shiral> About the same area as the rug between my coffee table
and my tv
[17:10] <Martine> Oh perfect! That helps :-P
[17:10] <Debbie-VB> is that the play based on Monty Python and the Holy
Grais?
[17:10] <Kelric> I also bought a t-shirt with this on the front. "I'm
Not Dead Yet"
[17:10] <Dov> where were you watching it kelric?
[17:10] <Kelric> yep
[17:10] <Kelric> and it does it great
[17:11] <Debbie-VB> Grail
[17:11] <Martine> Hee hee Kelric. I've got the Spamalot soundtrack
downloaded to my cell phone for ring tones :-D
[17:11] <Kelric> Cadilacc Palace theater in Chi-Town
[17:11] <jemler> i hate spam! (courtesy of monty python)
[17:11] <Shiral> So Haldane Hash is a great kind of ice cream served at
Rhemuth Castle.
[17:12] * Shiral sort of steers conversation into Deryni channels
[17:12] <KK> And that would be made of...what ingredients, Shiral?
[17:12] <jemler> Don't forget Duncan Donuts!
[17:12] <Shiral> Don't know, never had any
[17:12] <Martine> Inquiring minds ... uh... sort of want to know?
[17:12] <Shiral> But I suspect some strawberries get into it
[17:12] <slobbit> oh, could they have ice cream?
[17:12] <the_Bee> nuts. chocolate? or is that american?
[17:12] <Martine> There must be honey, of course.
[17:12] <Shiral> Haldane scarlet you know
[17:13] <Shiral> Naturally
[17:13] <KK> Strawberries and honey--yes, those are period.
[17:13] <the_Bee> honey, nuts and cherries
[17:13] <Shiral> And cream
[17:13] <slobbit> my folks get to have snow-cones
[17:13] <Shiral> Sounds pretty good to me!
[17:13] <KK> And nuts--some nuts--would robably be ok.
[17:13] <Wrengl> hood is available in ny bee
[17:13] <Wrengl> as is friendlys
[17:13] <the_Bee> good!
[17:13] <Dov> well i have made the online recipe for shortbread
[17:13] <Shiral> Perhaps a bit of sweet Fianna wine
[17:13] <Shiral> Although that would be more of a sorbet, I suppose
[17:14] <KK> Shortbread cookie dough, perhaps?
[17:14] <Martine> Mmmmmmm!
[17:14] <Shiral> How was it, Dov?
[17:14] <KK> Cinnamon.
[17:14] <Dov> yummy
[17:14] <Martine> Oh yum! Cinnamon and honey!
[17:14] <Shiral> Jemler, LOL about the Duncan Donuts
[17:14] <the_Bee> ginger. Mu ex-boss told me about ginger ice cream
[17:14] <Shiral> He's got a nice figure for a man who makes donuts
[17:15] <Shiral> Oh, Ginger Ice cream is dangerous
[17:15] <the_Bee> ?
[17:15] <Shiral> That's what made me realize I need to bellydance it
off, again!
[17:15] <jemler> Makes 'em, doesn't eat 'em
[17:15] * KK makes a face at the very thought of ginger ice cream.
[17:15] <slobbit> oh, ginger snow-cones
[17:15] <Shiral> It's delicious, KK
[17:15] <Shiral> Really it is
[17:15] <Wrengl> ginger?
[17:15] <Shiral> yes
[17:16] <Shiral> Extremely good!
[17:16] <the_Bee> my boss didn't go for bland flavors
[17:16] <Debbie-VB> It would be, especially if made with candied
gigner.
[17:16] <Martine> Oh, it is very yum!
[17:16] * Bynw is a strawberry icecream type
[17:16] <Shiral> With a bit of shaved dark chocolate on top, Ginger Ice
Cream is FABULOUS!
[17:16] <Wrengl> strawberries are period
[17:16] <jemler> Strawberrirs on pancakes
[17:16] <Wrengl> they are in europe
[17:16] <Martine> I'm a cookie dough or dulce de leche girl :-)
[17:17] <KK> Hmmm, ruination of perfectly good ice cream, if you ask
me. (But then, I prefer to confine my ginger intake to ginger with
sushi or the occasional gingerbread man.)
[17:17] * Shiral can't really see the pont of Cinnamon Ice Cream,
however
[17:17] <the_Bee> Green Monster mint--a Hood Red-sox-themed flavor
[17:17] <Wrengl> cherry or strawberry if i can't have chocolate
[17:17] <Wrengl> candied ginger is good katherine
[17:17] * Shiral nails her feet to the floor so that SHE won't run to
Trader Joes for a Pint of Ginger Ice Cream
[17:17] <Wrengl> and ginger ice cream is great after a sushi dinner!
[17:18] <the_Bee> can someone name a slightly tart berry native to the
British Isles?
[17:18] <Wrengl> perhaps red currents?
[17:18] <the_Bee> preferably edible ;)
[17:18] <Wrengl> i know black ones are in england
[17:18] <KK> Or black currants.
[17:18] <Wrengl> i think red are tarter
[17:19] <KK> Raspberries.
[17:19] <Debbie-VB> Are not raspberries from the british isles?
[17:19] <Wrengl> true
[17:19] <KK> Yes. And here in Ireland, too.
[17:19] <jemler> I'll stick with the blackberries behind my
grandmothers house.
[17:19] <Shiral> Wild blackberries are fabulous
[17:19] <Wrengl> blackberries are good
[17:19] <KK> Bramble barries, too.
[17:19] <Martine> Our mulberry tree is starting to grow its berries.
Yay!
[17:19] <the_Bee> I was thinking black curerents. I'm thinking of
inventing a Caeriessean brakfast dish with berries, nots and barley
[17:19] <Debbie-VB> They can definitly be a bit tart.
[17:19] <jemler> Cream and sugar
[17:19] <Shiral> So is blackberry ice cream
[17:19] <Martine> They make great breakfast crepes in late June :)
[17:20] <Wrengl> lingonberries are tart also
[17:20] <Shiral> Lol, Martine, for a minute, I read that as "Breakfast
Creeps"
[17:20] <Martine> LOL! Only if the cats try to steal some cream
[17:20] <Wrengl> but i don't think they would grow in the caerissean
climate
[17:20] <Shiral> Lingonberry sauce is very good--tastes very like
cranberry sauce
[17:20] <the_Bee> John before his first cup of coffee?
[17:20] <KK> Soft fruit season is about to begin here! Soon there will
be roadside kiosks selling berries picked only that morning, first
strawberries, and later in the season, the raspberries.
[17:20] <Martine> not john, bee. me! <g>
[17:21] <Wrengl> more like cream and honey to be in period jemler
[17:21] <jemler> Who's talking period, I'm talking now!
[17:21] <Shiral> lol
[17:21] <Wrengl> strawberries have started in nj
[17:22] <Wrengl> and our couple of plants are producing one or two
every couple of days
[17:22] <Wrengl> bee was talking period
[17:22] * Debbie-VB recently found some yoghurt with saskatoon berries
[17:22] <Wrengl> never heard of them
[17:22] <KK> The first strawberries began to appear here, too, though
it seems just a tad early to me. But I saw a kiosk Friday, on the way
to and fron the bank....
[17:22] <Wrengl> have heard of juneberries, though
[17:23] <Shiral> Yup.... from Kim
[17:23] <Dov> *sigh* and i'm with peregrine on blueberry scones, which
i don't dare try to make--they wouldn't last a week in my house
[17:23] <Wrengl> but they only grow in north dakota
[17:23] <KK> What are saskatoon berries like?
[17:23] <Debbie-VB> same thing pat. their called saskatoons in Canada
[17:23] <Wrengl> they are very good
[17:23] <Wrengl> ah
[17:23] <the_Bee> same as what?
[17:23] <Wrengl> sakatoons are the same as june berries
[17:23] <the_Bee> ah
[17:23] <Wrengl> according to debbie
[17:23] <Martine> Dov, my weakness is the chocolate chip scones the
cafeteria at work makes every morning.
[17:23] <KK> Hmmm, I didn't really care for them.
[17:24] <KK> Chocolate chip scones, though--now there's a thought!
[17:24] * Debbie-VB never bakes scones. i
[17:25] <Dov> chocolate chip? that's dangerous! :)
[17:25] * Shiral tries not to bake
[17:25] <jemler> with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce!
[17:25] <Shiral> My mom makes wicked good blue berry pancakes, though
[17:25] <Debbie-VB> They never last in my place, except around my
waistline
[17:25] <RainbowDragon> a scone is like a biscuit, right/
[17:25] <RainbowDragon> ?
[17:25] <Martine> they're verrra dangerous! and they're huge!
[17:25] <jemler> Jusy keep bellydancing, Deb
[17:25] <Martine> Sort of, RD. More sweet than buttery.
[17:26] <KK> Somewhat like a biscuit, RD, but sweet.
[17:26] <Dov> somewhere between a biscuit and a muffin
[17:26] <RainbowDragon> Ah, okay
[17:26] <Shiral> They go extrmely well with morning coffee
[17:26] <slobbit> it's a biscuit base, just add sugar
[17:26] <Martine> And fresh pineapple, which is how I usually have
mine!
[17:26] <Debbie-VB> they go extreemly well anytime
[17:26] <slobbit> I've got a recipie I could send you, RD
[17:26] <KK> They're usually sweet, but they do some nice cheese scones
some places.
[17:27] <slobbit> they've got yummy orange-glazed ones at Panera
[17:27] <Martine> Oh yes! Those are yum too!
[17:27] <RainbowDragon> cheese? hmmm
[17:27] <KK> Orange glazed scones? Those sound dangerous!
[17:27] <KK> Are you sure they're not muffins?
[17:27] <slobbit> everything at Panera is dangerous
[17:27] <slobbit> they're scones
[17:27] <Debbie-VB> This reminds me of Peregrine from the adept books.
he loved scones
[17:28] <Shiral> Sounds like a wonderful place, Slobbit <G>
[17:28] <slobbit> and they have free wi-fi
[17:28] <Martine> You don't have Panera on the west coast, Shiral?
[17:28] <Shiral> I'm trying to stay AWAY from baked goods, Martine
[17:28] <KK> I'm told that, strictly speaking, scones are not breakfast
food--but what do the Brits know about it anyway?
[17:28] <Dov> i mentioned him debbie :-)
[17:28] <Shiral> With only partial success
[17:28] <Debbie-VB> I've never heard about that chain. Is it in
Canada?
[17:29] <slobbit> dunno
[17:29] <Martine> Scones are to be eaten whenever the mood strikes you
:-)
[17:29] <Martine> www.panera.com
[17:29] <Shiral> This whole group is dangerous for me. You're the ones
who turned me onto Cinabon
[17:29] <Martine> Don''t think it's in canada, Debbie
[17:29] <Tika> lol
[17:29] <Bynw> cinabon
[17:29] <slobbit> Cinnabon is pure evil
[17:29] * Bynw drools
[17:29] <Tika> Cinnabon is evil incarnate
[17:29] <Mistyck> yes it is!
[17:29] <Martine> Panera has healthy stuff, too. Salads, sandwiches,
soup
[17:29] <Shiral> Excactly, Slobbit
[17:29] <slobbit> and . . . wifi
[17:29] <KK> Cinnabon makes my teeth hurt, it's so sweet.
[17:29] * Shiral hands bynw a towel
[17:29] <Debbie-VB> Cinnabon has disappeared from canada
[17:29] <Bynw> yeah but its soooo good tooo
[17:29] <Martine> Breathing in the Cinnabon aroma will put five pounds
on your hips.
[17:30] <Debbie-VB> It's now cinn-zeo
[17:30] <Shiral> Even if you happen to be doing hip shimmies at the
time!
[17:30] <Martine> yup!
[17:30] <Dov> as for breakfast, i long ago developed a taste for oat
porridge (oatmeal) the scottish way--with a little salt
[17:30] * Bynw went to Cinnabon just the other day
[17:30] <Martine> Although the Panera cobblestone is far more
dangerous, IMO.
[17:30] <Tika> should be called Sin-abon
[17:30] <KK> They seem to have stopped selling their really yummy
cinnamon.
[17:30] <Shiral> Really, the only way to combat the caloric onslaught
is to DO hip shimmies while eating them
[17:31] <Debbie-VB> or instead of eating them
[17:31] <Mistyck> I still have 2 bottles of it KK
[17:31] <Martine> Cinnamon raisin bread dough with apple chunks,
spices, and cinnamon roll icing..... <drool>
[17:31] <Mistyck> if you'd like one
[17:31] <Shiral> Oh, that's no fun, Debbie!
[17:31] <jemler> shimmy shimmy coco pop
[17:31] <Martine> Bop 'til you drop!
[17:32] <Bynw> Martine, where do you get that bread from??
[17:32] <Bynw> i want it
[17:32] <Tika> lol
[17:32] <Martine> lol!
[17:32] <Martine> Panera.
[17:32] <Bynw> fresh from the oven too
[17:32] <KK> Actually, my mother has turned me onto an even better
cinnamon from Vietnam, of all places--though I'm currently out, and
using regular stuff.
[17:32] <Mistyck> oh ok
[17:32] <Martine> They also have a wicked tart cherry scone, baked with
cream.
[17:32] <Martine> Vietnamese cinnamon is yum!
[17:32] <Mistyck> I'll have to try that
[17:32] <Shiral> It can take me a LOoooong time to work through a jar
of cinnamon
[17:32] <Mistyck> lots of Vietnamese stores around me
[17:33] <Samuel> is it really cinnamon? or is it some other plant that
they just call cinnamon?
[17:33] <Shiral> I didn't even know the Vietnamese HAD cinnamon
[17:33] <Mistyck> me either Shiral
[17:33] <KK> I put a mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla sugar on
my rasin cinnamon bagel every morning.
[17:33] <Mistyck> but India does, so it's not so far fetched
[17:33] * Debbie-VB makes a note to check out her local asian
supermarket for vietnamese cinnamon
[17:33] <the_Bee> a lot of spices originated in the East
[17:33] <Mistyck> Vietnam does have hills too
[17:33] <Shiral> IT's not a cuisine I normally associate with Cinnamon,
but you learn something new every day
[17:34] <KK> I need to check one of the Vietnamese stores here; easier
than having my mom send it from SF.
[17:34] <Wrengl> but cinabon's cinnamon is wonderful
[17:34] <Mistyck> yes it is
[17:34] <Dov> i think mccormick sells vietnamese cinnamon
[17:34] <Kelric> man. it's hot in Chi-Town today
[17:34] <the_Bee> we used to have cinnamon and sugar on toast
[17:34] <Mistyck> Dov, we've got some vietnamese stores on San Felipe
near Warwick
[17:34] <Shiral> I did too, Bee
[17:34] <Shiral> Tasty
[17:34] <KK> I still do!
[17:34] <Dov> <nod>
[17:35] <Debbie-VB> I still like cinnamon/sugar on toast
[17:35] <Mistyck> it is yummy
[17:35] <KK> Yike, just looked at the time, troops. Gotta head off to
bed. It's been a long day, with another similar one tomorrow.
[17:35] <Shiral> Night, Katherine
[17:35] <Dov> stay well katherine
[17:35] <Shiral> Sleep well
[17:35] <Mistyck> take care Katherine
[17:35] <slobbit> bye, kk
[17:35] <Martine> Night, Katherine!
[17:35] <jemler> g'night KK
[17:35] <Bynw> me too when i dont have rasin cinnamon swirl bread to
toast
[17:35] <Debbie-VB> Sleep sweet katherine.
[17:35] <Mistyck> have a great week
[17:36] <Martine> And I must now go in search of ice cream!!!
[17:36] <Tika> take care KK :)
[17:36] <Shiral> Thanks for Popping by
[17:36] <jemler> See you later
[17:36] <the_Bee> when my sister was little, we were out of cionnamon.
she kept demainding that Mom "MAKE SOME CINNAMON!"
[17:36] <Bynw> have a good night KK ... it was nice chatting with you
2x today
[17:36] <Tika> Martine you evil woman LOL
[17:36] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles, wondering what anyone would think if her
sparkles changed color....
[17:36] <the_Bee> nighters KK
[17:36] * Shiral waves back to kk
[17:36] <Martine> :-d
[17:36] <Shiral> We'd be shocked, KK!
[17:36] <Debbie-VB> they can be any colour you want them to be KK
[17:36] <Martine> We'd have to check our eyes
[17:37] <Shiral> Sparks get in your eyes.....
[17:37] * KK decides that she will think on the possibility....
[17:37] <KK> Good night, guys!
[17:37] <Martine> blue!
[17:37] * KK Quit
[17:37] * KK has left IRC

[17:26] <Wrengl> hi katherine!

[17:27] <KK> Sorry I wasn't here last week. We went for "drinks" at

Got home around 2 AM!
[17:28] <RainbowDragon> chats with good friends is time well spent
though
[17:28] <the_Bee> "home" still Holybrooke?
[17:28] <KK> Been ok. Have just finished reviewing the copy edited
manuscript of Childe Morgan.
[17:28] <RainbowDragon> How is the new computer doing, KK?
[17:28] <KK> Yep, still here. Wednesday is the big day.
[17:28] <KK> New computer is fine.
[17:29] <Wrengl> moving day already!?
[17:29] <KK> No, auction day.
[17:29] <KK> Lots of interest.
[17:30] <RainbowDragon> thats a good thing
[17:31] * slobbit has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:31] <DeryniBot> Hi there slobbit! Welcome to the chat.
[17:31] <Wrengl> what are you auctioning?
[17:31] <RainbowDragon> hi slobbit
[17:31] <the_Bee> hi slobbit
[17:31] <Wrengl> I missed your last visit here, not feeling well
[17:31] <KK> The house.
[17:31] <Wrengl> hi slobbit
[17:31] <slobbit> hi folks, RainbowDragon & the_Bee
[17:31] <slobbit> and kk
[17:31] <jemler> hi slobbit
[17:31] <Mistyck> hiyas Beth
[17:31] <Wrengl> ah
[17:31] <KK> Pat, feeling better now?
[17:32] <Wrengl> so you decided to auction it?
[17:32] <Wrengl> actually not really
[17:32] <KK> Yep, that was the decision from the beginning.
[17:32] <Wrengl> i have not rebounded from the last chemo session as i
had been
[17:32] <KK> bummer!
[17:32] <Mistyck> hi Katherine!
[17:32] <Wrengl> little energy although heat and humidity could
contribute to that
[17:32] <the_Bee> hope you get a good price, esp. after all the work
you put into it
[17:32] <Wrengl> but I will be well this week and next
[17:33] <KK> I understand there's record heat in most of the US this
weekend.
[17:33] <Wrengl> i am volunteering for the visit of the Godspeed to New
York
[17:33] <KK> The Godspeed?
[17:33] <Wrengl> it is a reproduction of one of the ships that brought
the first colonists to Jamestown
[17:33] <KK> cool!
[17:33] <Wrengl> a sailing reproduction
[17:33] <KK> Double cool!
[17:33] <Wrengl> it goes to boston after new york
[17:34] <KK> I love tall ships.
[17:34] <Wrengl> it will be at south street seaport
[17:34] <the_Bee> a tall ship came to Boston recently. I didn't get to
see it, though
[17:34] <Wrengl> it is amazingly small, as I recall from the original
reproduction, to have carried that many people
[17:34] <KK> What are you volunteering to do, Pat?
[17:35] <the_Bee> sterage was very crowded, I bet
[17:35] <Wrengl> will find out tomorrow at orientation
[17:35] <Wrengl> they have docent and guide positions and office work
[17:35] <Mistyck> ahh cool
[17:35] <jemler> You're a surprise volunteer?
[17:35] <KK> Ah. That sounds great.
[17:35] <Wrengl> since i was a history major and have archaeology
training anything is possible
[17:36] <Mistyck> :-)
[17:36] <Wrengl> they will tell us all tomorrow at orientation what our
assignments will be
[17:36] <KK> Let us know when you find out.
[17:36] <Bynw> hi kk
[17:36] <jemler> I hope you feel up to it, whatever it is.
[17:36] <KK> Hi, Bynw.
[17:36] <Wrengl> kathi is making me a mob cap (one of those colonial
days ladies hats) to wear since i have to wear a hat
[17:36] * Dov Quit (Connection reset by peer )
[17:36] * Dov has left IRC
[17:36] * Bynw was helping Tika make dinner
[17:37] <Wrengl> will do
[17:37] <Wrengl> orientation is tomorrow evening
[17:37] <KK> Ah. I just got here about 5 min. ago.
[17:37] <slobbit> sounds like fun, Wrengl
[17:37] <Wrengl> it should be
[17:37] * the_Bee stings peer up the wazoo "bad peer" bring dov back!
[17:38] <Wrengl> very casual dress - shorts, comfortable shoes, and the
tee shirt they will be giving us at orientation
[17:38] <jemler> at least you didn't slap it with a fish! :)
[17:38] <Wrengl> and they have a dining tent and will provide us with
water
[17:39] <the_Bee> thanks for reminding me , jemler
[17:39] * the_Bee slaps DeryniBot around a bit with a large trout
[17:39] * Dov has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:39] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws Dov into the
chat.
[17:39] <the_Bee> rehi dov
[17:39] <Dov> rehi
[17:39] <jemler> re-re-hi dov
[17:39] <Wrengl> rehi dov
[17:39] <Dov> :)
[17:39] <Dov> greetings kk
[17:39] <KK> Ah. peer must be propitiatable by food!
[17:40] <KK> Either that, or he was fleeing the fish!
[17:40] <KK> I, too, had forgotten that fish were the preferred weapon
for dealing with Peer.
[17:40] <RainbowDragon> lol
[17:40] <jemler> she slapped me with that trout last week. It's a good
thing I like fish!
[17:40] <Wrengl> or my indiana jones bullwhip
[17:41] <jemler> ooh , leather!
[17:41] <RainbowDragon> Bee's stings are quite formidable as well!
[17:41] <the_Bee> people were falling asleep. I had to wake them up
somehow.
[17:41] <jemler> by slapping me sllier
[17:41] <Wrengl> lol
[17:41] <jemler> sillier
[17:42] <KK> Sounds good to me.
[17:42] <Kelric> mmm. food. I should make dinner
[17:43] <Mistyck> Katherine: When is the tentative release date for
Childe Morgan?
[17:43] <KK> Early December.
[17:43] <Mistyck> neat! In time for Christmas ;)
[17:43] <Kelric> woot. an early christmas present
[17:43] <the_Bee> It will be on my Christmas wishlist
[17:44] <KK> Yep. It might even be available at Darkover.
[17:44] <Mistyck> and hopefully available at Darkover...
[17:44] <Mistyck> yes!
[17:44] <Wrengl> :)
[17:44] <Kelric> darkover. with luck and not many term papers I might
actually be able to make it to darkover this year
[17:44] <jemler> Mistyck is mind-seeing!
[17:44] <Mistyck> heehee
[17:44] <Bynw> darkover would be good
[17:44] <KK> Speaking of release dates, I do believe that the paperback
of the latest Harry Potter comes out early in July. :-)
[17:45] <Mistyck> Katherine we are hoping that Kelric and RD can be
there with all of us this year
[17:45] <KK> That would be great.
[17:45] <Wrengl> yes it would
[17:46] <Wrengl> and the pub is doing thanksgiving for any early
arrivals who want to come and chip in for the dinner
[17:46] <Mistyck> yep yep
[17:46] <Mistyck> Ryan and I will be there
[17:46] <Mistyck> we'll be bringing food too
[17:46] <Wrengl> but the hostesses are shopping on wednesday this year
when the store still has food
[17:46] <Kelric> if I come I'll chip in
[17:47] <Wrengl> :)
[17:47] <Mistyck> it's always a fun time at the Pub
[17:47] <Wrengl> i will post on the ng because we will need a number
before we leave
[17:47] <KK> That sounds like a distinct possibility.
[17:47] * natlog has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:47] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws natlog into
the chat.
[17:47] <Mistyck> hiyas Nat
[17:47] <RainbowDragon> hi natlog
[17:47] <the_Bee> hi natlog
[17:47] <jemler> natlog! wb
[17:48] <natlog> hi all
[17:48] <Wrengl> well last year tika, bynw, and ambush joined us and it
was less expensive and better than most of the restaurants
[17:48] <Wrengl> hi natlog
[17:48] <Mistyck> Pat, we'll have to plan the menu in October
[17:48] <Wrengl> yup
[17:49] <Mistyck> and I found another place that will sell me bulk
samosas
[17:49] <Wrengl> we have decided to do a spiral cut ham for the pub
again this year
[17:49] <Mistyck> so I will be bringing about 50 of those too
[17:50] <Mistyck> oh good!
[17:50] <Wrengl> it worked better than any of the other things we've
tried
[17:50] <Mistyck> yep
[17:50] <the_Bee> you're making me hungry!
[17:50] <Wrengl> oh good mistyck
[17:50] <Wrengl> they were good
[17:50] <Mistyck> yes and I was reluctant to get some that weren't
quite as good as the ones I'd brought
[17:50] <Wrengl> tee hee
[17:51] <Mistyck> but an Indian restaurant near work told me they'll
make them for me and be ready to pick up the day prior to my leaving
[17:51] <Wrengl> :)
[17:51] <Mistyck> they just want 3 days notice
[17:51] <Wrengl> great
[17:52] <Mistyck> and I think 50 is a good number...last time Martine
took a few back with her
[17:53] <the_Bee> speaking of food: Dov, is kosher salt slaughtered
according to prescribed rituals?
[17:54] <Dov> kosher salt is coarse salt, used to draw blood out of
meat as part f the kosher process
[17:55] <the_Bee> ah. I'm reading a mystery that began with someone
preparing gravlax salmon with kosher salt and sugar
[17:56] <Dov> lax (or lox) is somehow related to a persian word for
"pink"
[17:57] <Dov> also connected to a kind of dye known as "lake" and
"shellac"
[17:58] <the_Bee> The novel is set in Texas
[17:58] <Dov> oops, you pushed my "vocabulary" button :-D
[17:58] <RainbowDragon> lol
[17:58] <Mistyck> teehee
[17:58] <RainbowDragon> but quite interesting, Dov
[17:58] <Mistyck> very interesting
[17:58] <the_Bee> one of a series featuring Ruby the Rabbi's Wife
(widow)
[17:58] <Mistyck> we're a quiet bunch today
[17:59] <Dov> fighting with an ornery printer
[17:59] <Mistyck> ahh
[17:59] <RainbowDragon> KK are you still with us?
[17:59] <the_Bee> We don't want to pester KK till she's done relocating
[17:59] <KK> I'm still here.
[17:59] <KK> But I'm fading fast.
[18:00] <Mistyck> got all your extra stuff packed?
[18:00] <KK> You must be joking.
[18:00] <Mistyck> lol
[18:00] <Dov> how are the various quadrupeds?
[18:00] <Mistyck> yes I was
[18:00] <Mistyck> I hate moving
[18:00] <KK> And what would constitute "extra stuff"?
[18:00] <Dov> :)
[18:00] <KK> All the four-foots are fine.
[18:00] <Mistyck> all the stuff in the attic/closets/etc that we never
use but have to somehow keep around
[18:00] <RainbowDragon> the non-auctionable stuff
[18:01] <Mistyck> yep!
[18:01] <KK> I've weeded out a great deal of that "stuff" in the past
two years.
[18:01] <Mistyck> good for you!
[18:01] <KK> And we'll be selling a lot of the furniture rather than
put it into storage.
[18:01] <RainbowDragon> that should simplify the packing tremendously
[18:01] <Mistyck> oh good!
[18:02] <KK> No, because books still need to be put into boxes.
Furniture just goes into trucks.
[18:02] <RainbowDragon> how soon before the big move?
[18:02] <KK> Don't know.
[18:02] <RainbowDragon> ah, okay
[18:02] <KK> Possibly as soon as 4 weeks.
[18:02] <the_Bee> last time I moved I had to leave most of my stuff
behind to keep the health department off my back
[18:02] <Mistyck> closing on the new place contingent on the closing of
Hollybrooke?
[18:02] <KK> No, it's more complicated than that.
[18:03] <Mistyck> ahh ok
[18:03] <KK> As soon as I have the new (interim) address, I'll let you
know.
[18:03] <Mistyck> cool!
[18:04] <Dov> think i'm going to sign out now. blessings and good
health all around.
[18:04] <the_Bee> shalom dov
[18:04] <Mistyck> take care and be well Dov. Have a great evening
[18:04] <KK> Blessings to you as well. And I'm away as well.
[18:04] <the_Bee> nighers, KK
[18:04] <Mistyck> take care and have a great week Katherine
[18:04] <KK> Will try to make it next week.
[18:04] * Dov (Quit: Dov steps onto the Transfer Portal and vanishes )
[18:04] * Dov has left IRC
[18:04] <Mistyck> cool
[18:04] <jemler> g'night KK. Take care
[18:04] <RainbowDragon> Thanks for stopping by
[18:05] <KK> I have to get back on the repolish of High Deryni this
week, now that Childe is back with the typesetters.
[18:05] <Mistyck> goodie!!!
[18:05] <RainbowDragon> good news!
[18:05] <KK> All of you, take care. and Pat--feel better!
[18:05] <Mistyck> have a great night Katherine

[16:16] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws KK into the

[16:16] <kelric> ooh. kk's here :)
[16:16] <jemler> hello kk
[16:16] <KK> Hi, guys.
[16:16] <kelric> ok so everyone WAS quiet. I thought I was peered
[16:16] <Wrengl> evening katherine
[16:16] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK!
[16:16] <KK> Wow, I must be early.
[16:16] <Wrengl> how is edgar?
[16:17] <Wrengl> yes you are about 45 minutes early
[16:17] <kelric> man. I forgot how depressing the Heirs trilogy was at
some points. It makes a lot of events in the kelson books so
uplifting.
[16:17] <KK> He's doing great. No more coughing, and has put back on
some weight.
[16:17] <RainbowDragon> better early than never :-)
[16:17] <jemler> it's only about 5:20 here, KK
[16:17] <Wrengl> good for edgar
[16:17] <Wrengl> we were worried about him
[16:17] <KK> I need to check with the vet this week and see when they
want him in for more blood work.
[16:18] <RainbowDragon> What's wrong with Edgar?
[16:18] <kelric> ooh.
[16:18] <Wrengl> i can sympathize with him about blood work!
[16:18] <KK> They want to wean him off his diuretic, now that we seem
to have the fluid away from his lungs.
[16:18] <Wrengl> go edgar!
[16:18] <Wrengl> :)
[16:18] <KK> He takes his pills (Tiny ones) like a trooper.
[16:18] <kelric> good for him
[16:18] <RainbowDragon> thats good
[16:18] <Wrengl> that's good
[16:19] * Wrengl has had struggles with kitties and dogs over pills
[16:19] <KK> He was having coughing bouts--can sympathize with
that!--and had 4x the level of thyroid hormone that he should have had.
Also, racing heartbeat.
[16:19] <RainbowDragon> oh my!
[16:20] <Wrengl> and at his advanced age anythiing going wrong is
serious
[16:20] <RainbowDragon> that sounds really serious
[16:20] <KK> All the symptoms apparently were coming from the thyroid
imbalance, which appears to be responding well to medication. So I
think we've bought him some more good quality time. Kidney function is
still excellent, but could have been an additional complication.
[16:21] <KK> He's a great cat, and he's had an amazing life thus far.
[16:21] <Wrengl> true kidney failure can be the last straw with them
[16:21] <KK> Absolutely. No real reprieve from that.
[16:21] <Wrengl> nope
[16:22] <KK> Anyway, everybody else is doing well. And Cameron is home
for the week--goes back Friday--and we had a great party for him here
at the house last night. It was good to see the house entertaining
like it was designed to do.
[16:23] <RainbowDragon> How goes the house situation?
[16:23] <Wrengl> i am sure it was happy to be filled with people
[16:23] <KK> We close on Friday; are planning to move the last week in
August--temporarily, down to a friend's cottage in Arklow.
[16:25] <Wrengl> so they will take possession just around the time
school begins, if they have kids in school
[16:25] <RainbowDragon> but, you will have to live in temporary digs
until you finalize things on a new place?
[16:26] <KK> That's right. We should know by the end of the week,
whether we're getting the castle we want.
[16:26] <RainbowDragon> lets hope!
[16:26] <Mistyck> Hi Katherine!
[16:26] <jemler> do you find it easier writing about castles by living
in one?
[16:27] <Mistyck> that's a good question Jemler...I don't remember
anyone ever asking her that!
[16:27] <Wrengl> fingers are crossed for you getting the castle
[16:27] <KK> Welllll--we don't really live in a castle right now, so I
can't say for sure. And the one we want is a more modern castle--not
like a medieval one. But visiting castles definitely helps visualize
them.
[16:28] <Mistyck> :-)
[16:28] <KK> This house was good inspiration for Adam Sinclair's world.
[16:28] <Wrengl> ah
[16:28] <Mistyck> I can see how that would be
[16:28] <Wrengl> speaking of Sir Adam, any word on him?
[16:28] * the_Bee has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:28] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws the_Bee into
the chat.
[16:28] <Wrengl> hi bee
[16:28] <Mistyck> hiyas Bee
[16:28] <jemler> bee!
[16:29] <the_Bee> hi wrengl. How ya doin'? Hi jemler and Mistyck
[16:29] <Wrengl> doing pretty good
[16:29] <KK> Debby and I are working on the proposal for the Adept
prequel, which <may> be framed within a new Adam Sinclair adventure, as
the story is told of how the Hunting Lodge, in its most recent
incarnation, came to be.
[16:29] <Wrengl> gyncologist says tumor is responding to this chemo
drug
[16:30] <Mistyck> good to hear Pat
[16:30] <KK> Oh, excellent!
[16:30] <the_Bee> cool!
[16:30] <KK> This means it's worth it, for the extra discomfort this
latest treatment has been causing,
[16:30] <kelric> excellent
[16:30] <Wrengl> of course he also says it needs to be treated as a
chronic condition which means continuing the chemo when we get home
from the cruise
[16:30] <KK> You go, lady!
[16:30] <Wrengl> yup
[16:31] <KK> Chronic is way better than acute!
[16:31] <Wrengl> and she has put me on procrit so the anemia/fatigue
should go away soon
[16:31] <Wrengl> this is true!
[16:31] <KK> That's terrific.
[16:31] <KK> I think you'll enjoy your cruise. Just don't overdo when
you go ashore. My mom did, and came home exhausted.
[16:31] <Wrengl> and since the lousy blood counts are my only side
effect (my hair is coming back) I can live with that
[16:32] <KK> She did enjoy the cruise, though.
[16:32] <Wrengl> i have only signed us up for two shore expeditions
[16:32] <Wrengl> one to visit the native american village
[16:32] <KK> That's good. Spend the rest of the time aboard and
resting, relaxing.
[16:32] <Wrengl> and a whale watching boat ride that includes a good
view of the glacier
[16:33] <KK> Whale-watching is a good, sedentary occupation, with
mostly the eyes exercised!
[16:33] <Wrengl> well we will probably go ashore at the other ports but
just kinda toodle around near the docks, like we did on our two night
cruise to bermuda
[16:33] <Wrengl> yup
[16:33] <jemler> unlike girl watching! ;)
[16:33] <KK> That sounds like the best plan.
[16:33] <Wrengl> and they promise you will at least see them in the
distance or you get most of your money back
[16:34] <Wrengl> tee hee, jemler
[16:34] <Wrengl> boy watching is better, though!
[16:34] <the_Bee> Watch out for mosquitos! I hear that in Alaska
they're big enough to ride like horses. ;o)
[16:34] <KK> I suspect they know where to find the whales. :-)
[16:34] <Wrengl> tee hee
[16:34] <Wrengl> yup
[16:34] <KK> I've heard that too. Hate mosquitos!
[16:34] <jemler> only if i'm the one you're watching!
[16:34] <Wrengl> i have the off wipes I did not use in north dakota
last summer
[16:34] <Wrengl> tee hee jemler
[16:35] <Wrengl> well I sort of prefer blonds in black, to tell the
truth
[16:35] <Wrengl> alaric - luke skywalker
[16:35] <jemler> i'm ash blond
[16:35] <jemler> in blue
[16:35] <Wrengl> well then
[16:35] <Wrengl> well blue is okay
[16:35] <KK> That works. ;-)
[16:36] <Wrengl> blue is my favourite colour
[16:36] <Wrengl> i like most colour as long as they are blue
[16:36] * the_Bee likes 'em tall, dark and handsome.
[16:36] <Wrengl> although i AM allergic to pink
[16:36] <jemler> so am i :)
[16:36] <Wrengl> tall is good (although luke isn't!)
[16:36] <KK> brb
[16:37] <Wrengl> k
[16:37] <jemler> if we keep abbreviating, we'll eventually work out the
rest of the alphabet!
[16:38] <Wrengl> lol
[16:38] <the_Bee> abcdefg.
[16:38] <Wrengl> tee hee
[16:38] <Wrengl> lmnop
[16:38] <jemler> hijklmnop
[16:38] <the_Bee> qrstuv
[16:38] <Wrengl> wxyz
[16:38] <jemler> w
[16:39] <Wrengl> gmta
[16:39] <jemler> we did it! aaaahh
[16:39] <the_Bee> chooo!
[16:39] <Wrengl> indeed we did
[16:39] <kelric> hijklmno
[16:39] <kelric> I need some hijklmno
[16:39] * jemler passes kelric a glass of cold water
[16:39] * RainbowDragon throws alphabet soup on this crazy bunch
[16:40] <Wrengl> lol
[16:40] <jemler> let's go spelling!
[16:40] <Wrengl> we have not gotten this silly in a long time
[16:40] <jemler> it's the heat
[16:40] * the_Bee sips the alphabet soup
[16:40] * Wrengl slaps rd with a dead salmon
[16:40] <KK> No, you're right, we haven't.
[16:40] <the_Bee> wb kk
[16:40] <jemler> my bad
[16:41] <jemler> i started it
[16:41] <Wrengl> we used to get silly all the time jemler
[16:41] <KK> Pat, is it super hot where you are? I know Shiral is
sweltering. Flat-cat syndrome and all.
[16:42] <Wrengl> it was the beginning of the week near a hundred with
almost as much humidity
[16:42] <the_Bee> hot all over the US
[16:42] <Wrengl> we have gradually gone down although it was super
humid through yesterday
[16:42] <Wrengl> i think Canada finally sent us some cool
[16:43] <Wrengl> although the hundred thousand people in Queens could
use cooler weather still since they have been powerless since monday
[16:43] <KK> I read that parts of Queens have been without power for
4-5 days. Yuck! No air con.
[16:43] <Wrengl> nope and they have lost everything in their freezers
and fridges so they are living with that stench
[16:43] <Wrengl> and no idea when power will return
[16:43] <the_Bee> I read about bad heat problems in Indianapolis
[16:44] <Wrengl> some got it back, restocked their fridges and then
lost power again
[16:44] <RainbowDragon> St. Louis, MO was without power last thursday
and friday from a big storm... not sure if the power is back or not
though
[16:44] <KK> And some apparently got power back just long enough to
restock their fridges and freezers--and then lost power again.
[16:44] <the_Bee> maybe is was St. Louis I was thinking of.
[16:44] <Wrengl> biggest problem here was the electric company lied for
days saying 2000 customers had no power
[16:45] <Wrengl> at the peak it was actually 35,000
[16:45] <the_Bee> the truth was how many?
[16:45] <kelric> I just hope the heat isn't horrible in Indianapolis
august 9-13th
[16:45] <KK> Amazing. And yucky.
[16:45] <the_Bee> k
[16:45] <Wrengl> which comes out to about a 100,000 people
[16:45] <the_Bee> what are you doing in Indianapolis, kelric?
[16:45] <Wrengl> and the maximum loss you can claim, with no guarantee
you will get much, is $1150
[16:46] <Wrengl> sorry $150 dollars
[16:46] <jemler> that's only abut 1 weeks worth!
[16:47] <Wrengl> we have more than that in the refrigerator and its
freezer, not counting the chest freezer
[16:47] <Wrengl> depending on where you shop that would be less than a
week's worth
[16:47] <kelric> gencon indy
[16:48] <Wrengl> ah
[16:48] <Wrengl> gaming con
[16:49] <the_Bee> If someone wins $500 at gencon indy, can they say
they won the indi 500?
[16:49] <kelric> lol
[16:50] <Wrengl> lol
[16:51] <the_Bee> I'll look forward to a new Adept book, KK
[16:51] <Wrengl> so will i
[16:51] <Wrengl> i am desperately looking around for a book to take
with me on vacation next month
[16:52] <Wrengl> i thought it would be warding of the witch world but
that will be finished by the end of the month
[16:52] <Wrengl> and davinci code will be finished by next chemo
[16:53] <the_Bee> have you read Nancy Kress's Probability trilogy?
[16:53] <KK> If you can get the new Jacqueline Carey book, Kushiel's
Scion, it's excellent! Hardcover only, though. (I also just got the
paperback of Harry Potter & the Halfblood Prince yesterday--will start
that when I finish the Kushiel book.)
[16:53] <Wrengl> have not read that trilogy, although i think i read
something by her
[16:54] <Wrengl> i may look for a tony hillerman
[16:54] <the_Bee> she wrore "Brain Rose."
[16:54] <KK> Kushiel's Dart is amazing--and she's our pro GOH at
Darkover this year.
[16:54] <Wrengl> i love his navaho cop books
[16:54] <Wrengl> that is a good reason to look for her
[16:54] <KK> Navaho cops? This sounds interesting.
[16:55] <the_Bee> can you borrow something from your library, or will
you be gone too long?
[16:55] <Wrengl> there is also a series of books about dragons as air
force in the napoleonic wars i may look for
[16:55] <Wrengl> Hillerman's are good
[16:55] <the_Bee> PBS has done several of Hillerman's novels on Mystery
[16:55] <RainbowDragon> Dragons as an air force?
[16:55] <Wrengl> he has recieved awards from the navaho
[16:56] <KK> cool!
[16:56] <Wrengl> get a lot of good navaho information
[16:56] <Wrengl> yes, rd
[16:57] <the_Bee> Are you looking for a fast read on the plane, or a
slow read to fill your leisure time?
[16:57] <Wrengl> his majesty's dragon is i believe the first one
[16:57] <KK> I think I've heard of those.
[16:57] <the_Bee> who wrote it?
[16:57] <Wrengl> well something to read on the plane and in the hotel
at night (5 nights in seattle before the cruise)
[16:57] <Wrengl> so not too fast a read
[16:58] <KK> Kushiel will keep you occupied--and turning pages far too
late inot the night!
[16:58] <Harvey> The dragons in Napoleonic wars are by Naomi Novik, I
think
[16:58] <the_Bee> ty
[16:58] <Wrengl> yes
[16:58] <Harvey> I haven't read them, but I saw a review
[16:58] <Wrengl> she is a new writer
[16:58] <Wrengl> i read about her in writer's digest
[17:00] <Wrengl> since i will be getting an amazon gift certificate
from one of the companies i am with I may just get the trilogy
[17:00] <Wrengl> since i do not have a large bookseller around to pick
them up
[17:02] <KK> Oh, dear, late night last night is catching up wtih me.
I'd better sign off. But I've polished a couple more chapters in High
Deryni, this past week.
[17:02] <KK> I will do more this week.
[17:02] <RainbowDragon> thats good news, KK
[17:02] <Wrengl> great!
[17:02] <Wrengl> night katherine
[17:02] <KK> And Gus has just jumped up on my lap to tell me to come to
bed.
[17:02] <Wrengl> did everyone see that landis won the tour de france?!
[17:02] <KK> More next week.
[17:02] <the_Bee> sweet dreams and better waking hours, KK
[17:02] <Harvey> Good night, kk.
[17:02] <Harvey> Have a good week.
[17:03] <Wrengl> good for gus
[17:03] <the_Bee> hi gus!
[17:03] <Wrengl> have a great and productive week katherine
[17:03] <RainbowDragon> I wonder if gus did it with gus-to!
[17:03] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in
a shower of--wait for it!--<purple> sparkles!
[17:03] <Wrengl> hello gus from the meow mafia
[17:03] <RainbowDragon> purple!
[17:03] <Wrengl> tee hee rd
[17:03] <KK> Gus waves a paaw.
[17:03] <Wrengl> of course he did
[17:04] <KK> Nighters, all.
[17:04] <Wrengl> nighters
[17:04] <Wrengl> huggles
[17:04] <RainbowDragon> See you next week?
[17:04] <KK> Should do.
[17:04] <the_Bee> goodnight, Katherine
[17:04] * KK Quit
[17:04] * KK has left IRC

[17:47] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK
[17:47] <jemler> my spell worked! Hello KK
[17:47] <KK> Hello, troops!
[17:47] <Ethan> hello kk!!
[17:47] <Wrengl> hello katherine
[17:47] <kelric> she's here
[17:47] <RainbowDragon> Shiral, look look!
[17:47] * the_Bee divebombs the room with honeycombs
[17:47] <the_Bee> hi kk
[17:48] * Shiral quietly closes the door of the author trap
[17:48] <Shiral> hi kk
[17:48] <Wrengl> glad i had not yet signed off!
[17:48] <kelric> hi kk
[17:48] <RainbowDragon> How have you been KK?
[17:48] <Wrengl> how goes things, kk
[17:48] <KK> Sorry I was away the past two Sundays--a party the first
Sunday, given by our next-door neighbors, and last Sunday....Pirates!
[17:48] * Brom sends an iced mug of a-b to kk with a "hi, kk"
[17:48] <KK> hi, brom!
[17:49] <jemler> Pirates? Where is Saint Bearand when you need him?
[17:49] <KK> So, how is everybody?
[17:49] <Wrengl> all the critters will soon have new quarters to
explore!
[17:49] <jemler> doin good
[17:49] <Ethan> better now
[17:49] <Wrengl> not doing too bad
[17:49] <Bynw> its kk
[17:49] <Shiral> Functioning within factory specs
[17:49] * Brom warns KK the iced mugs has been magically endowed to
never empty 8;
[17:49] <Wrengl> unless i melt into a pile of goo this week
[17:49] <the_Bee> muddling through
[17:49] * ambush has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:49] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws ambush into
the chat.
[17:49] * ambush tackle-pounces kk
[17:49] <RainbowDragon> hi ambush
[17:49] <KK> That's so. In all, it wasn't as good a Pirate movie as
the first: a bunch of scenes in search of a plot.
[17:49] <Shiral> Hi Ambush
[17:49] <the_Bee> hi ambush
[17:49] <Wrengl> hi ambush
[17:49] <jemler> ambush!
[17:49] <ambush> hey
[17:50] <KK> Wrengl, you aren''t allowed to melt into a pile of goo!
[17:50] <Shiral> Look out floor's kind of sticky from the hot fudge and
Bee's honeycombs
[17:50] * Brom pours a mug of a-
[17:50] <Wrengl> i do not do well in the 90's with lots of humidity
[17:50] <Shiral> Pat, neither do I
[17:50] * Sam-cooking has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:50] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws Sam-cooking
into the chat.
[17:50] <Wrengl> the big ac in the bedroom died last year
[17:51] * ambush grabs pringles and mtn dew
[17:51] <KK> Fascinating, that she's found a new WMD. Never heard of
honeycomb bombardment before.
[17:51] <jemler> hey sam
[17:51] <the_Bee> hi sam
[17:51] <Sam-cooking> hello all
[17:51] * ambush waves to sam-cooking
[17:51] * Sam-cooking is now known as Samuel
[17:51] <Shiral> hi sam
[17:51] <Wrengl> but we found a small carry cool that kathi put in the
bedroom and it works
[17:51] <Wrengl> hi sam
[17:51] <Shiral> It's good for creating sticky situations
[17:51] <ambush> how ya been, kk?
[17:51] <KK> Poor Wrengl! You didn't need this kind of hot and sticky
weather. (For that matter, <no one needs that kind of weather.)
[17:52] <Wrengl> indeed
[17:52] <the_Bee> the wax knocks them down, then the honey glues them
to the floor
[17:52] <KK> ah.
[17:52] <Brom> one order of iced mugs for the house!
[17:52] <Wrengl> chemo is tuesday so at least i get to spend the
morning in air conditioning
[17:52] <KK> That's good.
[17:52] <kelric> man it's hot here.
[17:52] <Samuel> Brom: skip the mug.... just gimme the ice.
[17:52] <jemler> Wrengl, it's the afternoon air that's too hot
[17:52] <Wrengl> then i go to see the gyn to find out how the tumor is
doing (hoepfully shrinking) so more ac!
[17:52] <Shiral> Good weather for lying still and doing as little as
possible
[17:53] <KK> Wrengl, how do you guys survive in NYC in the summer
without AC?
[17:53] <Brom> ah, but the mug is full of cold A-B ... and never goes
empty 8)
[17:53] * the_Bee sips from her mug. "thanks, Brom!"
[17:53] * ambush waves to brom
[17:53] <Wrengl> we spend lots of time in front of fans!
[17:53] <Samuel> a-b?
[17:53] <jemler> and sweat a lot!
[17:54] <KK> I guess. And with them blowing air across blocks of ice,
I hope.
[17:54] <the_Bee> A&B Root Beer, I presume
[17:54] <Wrengl> this week nights should be warm also but normally we
get a coolish breeze from the harbour so a fan cools the room enough
for at least a sheet
[17:54] <jemler> i thought it was A&W?
[17:54] <Shiral> Wouldn't it be simpler to find a meat locker
somewhere?
[17:54] <Wrengl> we have done that!
[17:54] <the_Bee> I coool off in the shower before crawling into bed
still damp
[17:54] <Brom> Anheuser-Busch's finest ... I worked just down the hill
from the brewery
[17:55] <Wrengl> gone to the wholesale meat market and stayed in the
meat area until frozen
[17:55] <jemler> how much were you worth a pound?
[17:55] <Wrengl> but no room to put meat in freezer this week
[17:55] <Wrengl> does a-b actually have a beer that tastes like
something other than dish water?
[17:56] <Brom> hi ambush (glad that his attempt to dump cold A-B on
ambush for pouncing on KK was aborted
[17:56] * Wrengl puts out icy bottles of samuel smith's nut brown ale,
sam adams summer brew, and woodpecker cider
[17:56] <Samuel> Anheuser Busch? rats! I was hoping for a beer.
[17:56] * Shiral sticks with iced tea
[17:57] * RainbowDragon hands Shiral some peach tea
[17:57] * Wrengl takes a cider
[17:57] * the_Bee offers Sam a chilled microbrew
[17:57] <Shiral> Now I'm a two-fisted drinker, RD! Thanks. =o)
[17:57] <Wrengl> :)
[17:57] <Brom> of course, A-B actually has a bunch of the local "micro"
business ... I'd never give friends anything Bud
[17:57] <Wrengl> ah, good
[17:57] <RainbowDragon> Are you all packed and ready to go, KK?
[17:58] <KK> Nope--though I've been culling books this weekend.
[17:58] <Wrengl> i don't think i've had a bud since i was in my teens
(18 was drinking age back then)
[17:58] <Mistyck> hiyas kk
[17:58] <RainbowDragon> I'll bet thats a daunting and difficult task
[17:58] <KK> We're having professional packers do their thing--when we
have a place to move to.
[17:58] * Shiral does not do beer
[17:58] <jemler> now that you're all o f 21, you go for the hard stuff,
wrengl?
[17:59] <Wrengl> yup
[17:59] <Wrengl> the macallan 18 year or cask strength
[17:59] <Samuel> it's amazing how those that are too young to drink
waste their drinking on stuff not worth drinking.
[17:59] * the_Bee likes pale ale or lager. or bitter at a British pub
[17:59] <Brom> kk, have you switched from Irish to Scotch as yet?
[17:59] * kelric does not do any alcohol period
[18:00] <KK> Irish whiskey as opposed to Scotch?
[18:00] <the_Bee> You can be our designated driver, kelric :o)
[18:01] <Brom> yes 8)
[18:01] <Ethan> sadly, I am no longer allowed spirits
[18:01] <Wrengl> too bad ethan
[18:01] <jemler> why not?
[18:01] <Ethan> no kidding
[18:01] <kelric> heh
[18:01] <Wrengl> although we have to moderate the alchohol
[18:01] <Ethan> interferes with my meds
[18:01] <Brom> he's regressing inage?
[18:01] <KK> I don't like either--though Scott has always been a fan of
The Macallan.
[18:01] <Wrengl> yes he is
[18:02] <Wrengl> and it is a great lure to get him into the rampant
lion!
[18:02] * ambush is now known as ambush-the-cook
[18:02] <jemler> the pub or the cat?
[18:02] <Wrengl> the rampant lion pub
[18:02] <Brom> have to admit I've never heard of that brand. single or
blend?
[18:02] <jemler> ok :)
[18:02] <Wrengl> on the fourth floor of the darkover con hotel
[18:02] <Shiral> Ambush, be careful NOT to ambush the cook when said
cook is handling hot oil. <G>
[18:03] <Wrengl> single, brom
[18:03] <the_Bee> I got some Clan MacGregor Scotch on sale. I don't
know its reputation, but I like it.
[18:03] <Wrengl> if you make darkover ask us
[18:03] <Wrengl> we will have the 12 year old
[18:03] <jemler> ammbush, is the cooking that bad?
[18:03] <jemler> is that legal?
[18:03] <Wrengl> and we have a secret stash of the cask strenth but
that is for special friends only
[18:03] <Wrengl> what to have liquor?
[18:04] * ambush-the-cook is now known as ambush-cooking-dinner
[18:04] <the_Bee> to have 12-year-0lds
[18:04] <Shiral> tee hee!
[18:04] <Wrengl> tee hee
[18:04] <Wrengl> 12 year old macallan
[18:04] <Brom> used to attend the local celtic/clan games/festival ...
always a tasting booth was present
[18:04] <jemler> I don't have much of a mind, but what i have is dirty
[18:04] <the_Bee> I bet he was delicious
[18:04] <Wrengl> well we do get ryan and rick but they are not served
anything harder than soda!
[18:05] <Brom> and grumble 8;
[18:05] <Wrengl> 12 year old macallan scotch, sillies
[18:05] <Wrengl> tee hee brom
[18:05] <jemler> i'm sorry. i've been bad :(
[18:05] <Wrengl> but they get plenty of other stuff; including all the
food they can eat!
[18:06] <Shiral> Yes, but entertaining too, Jemler
[18:06] <Wrengl> indeed
[18:06] <Shiral> This chat room is not known for virtue
[18:06] <Brom> but what rick is grumbling about is that I've had a shot
...
[18:06] <Wrengl> well we used to be pretty clean when we had the young
ones coming in, like richenda
[18:07] <RainbowDragon> I've not seen her in ages
[18:07] <Shiral> And we used to be naughty when we didn't!
[18:07] <Wrengl> and one day he will be old enough to share one!
[18:07] <Brom> no, we all have virtues .... but don't ask 8;
[18:07] <Wrengl> just not now!
[18:07] <Shiral> KK, how goes the search for a temporary roost?
[18:07] <Wrengl> this is very true shiral
[18:08] <RainbowDragon> and how long before you move to the new,
smaller place?
[18:08] <Ethan> have been gone awhile, what has happened to KK's home?
[18:09] <Shiral> Since we used to speculate about what Alaric would NOT
wear to go swimming
[18:09] * Brom must be behind, he thought KK'd already moved ...
[18:09] <the_Bee> his birthday suit
[18:09] <Brom> does His Grace know how to swim?
[18:09] <KK> We have one potential one--but the rent is higher than we
want to pay, so we need to try to negotiate a lower rate. OR, we're
looking at a house that we thought was already sold, but its sale has
fallen through. So we might buy that. But we're still trying to pin
down the one we really want to buy. (Though that doesn't eliminate the
needs to find a place to rent. We do have a temporary backup, that
would be ok for a few months, if necessary.
[18:10] <the_Bee> actually, he probably would wear that, as long as no
ladies were present
[18:10] <jemler> since he goes everywhere on a ship, he'd bette!
[18:10] <Wrengl> indeed he better swim
[18:11] <Brom> hah, an unbelievable percentage of the age of sail RN
sailors couldn't swim ...
[18:11] <Shiral> Yes, Alaric can swim, remembr in High Deryni?
[18:11] <the_Bee> A lot of sailors don't swim. If you go down miles
from shore, swimming just prolongs the agony.
[18:11] <Brom> no, was too high ... g,d&rlh
[18:12] <Brom> in RL, survival depends on the water temp of the ocean
[18:13] <RainbowDragon> because they'd freeze to death?
[18:13] <Brom> tech name is hypothermia, but yes
[18:14] <the_Bee> Alaric's swim in HD was in summer, IIRC
[18:14] <Shiral> And on the Southern Sea coast
[18:15] <the_Bee> an he didn't have to swim far
[18:15] * JastaElf has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:15] <DeryniBot> Hi there JastaElf! Welcome to the chat.
[18:15] <RainbowDragon> Jasta!
[18:15] <JastaElf> Hi folks
[18:15] <jemler> hi jasta
[18:15] <the_Bee> jasta!!!!
[18:15] * Bynw huggles {{{{{ JastaElf }}}}}
[18:15] <Samuel> jasta!!!!!!
[18:15] * ambush-cooking-dinner tackle-pounces jastaelf
[18:15] <Ethan> hi jasta!!
[18:15] <KK> Hellllloooooo, Jasta!
[18:15] * JastaElf wiggles fingers hello to everyone
[18:15] <Shiral> hi jasta
[18:15] * Tika has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:15] <DeryniBot> Tika enters the chat as RainbowDragon passes around
a plate of cheese.
[18:16] <Shiral> hi tika
[18:16] <Brom> hi Jasta
[18:16] <JastaElf> Sorry I'm late, was making dinner
[18:16] <Tika> weeeeeeeeee Jasta!
[18:16] <Bynw> ohhhh a Tika tooo!
[18:16] <jemler> hi tika
[18:16] <Tika> and weeeeeeeee KK!
[18:16] <JastaElf> :-) Hi
[18:16] <Brom> hi tika
[18:16] <the_Bee> as long as you're here
[18:16] * Tika waves to all
[18:16] <Ethan> hi Tika
[18:16] <the_Bee> hiya teeks
[18:17] <Tika> how's life Jasta?
[18:17] * ambush-cooking-dinner tackle-pounces tika
[18:17] <JastaElf> It's going. :-) The bruise is disappearing and the
break wasn't bad.
[18:17] <Tika> how's life and writing, KK? :)))
[18:17] <Shiral> What break??
[18:17] <Tika> oy
[18:17] <Brom> Rick is looking over my shoulder and waves Hi to all ...
[18:17] <Tika> did you fall????
[18:17] <Shiral> hi rick
[18:17] <RainbowDragon> Ack!! Jasta, do tell
[18:17] <JastaElf> No, I made the mistake of leaning over Jasper's head
as he was grazing--his halter was crooked.
[18:17] * RainbowDragon waves to Rick
[18:17] <the_Bee> yes, tell!
[18:17] <Tika> is Jasper involved in this????
[18:17] <Tika> aha.....
[18:18] <Shiral> Owie
[18:18] <JastaElf> A mare 30 feet away startled him by striking her
hoof on the exercise pen... his head shot up...
[18:18] <JastaElf> His hard nose hit the occipital ridge of my right
eye. Owwies.
[18:18] <Tika> owwwwwwwww
[18:18] <Bynw> ouch!
[18:18] <JastaElf> Interesting bruise tho. *g* And it was a clean
break, no fracturing.
[18:18] <Tika> did you tell people they should see the other guy? :)
[18:18] <Shiral> Owie indeed
[18:18] <RainbowDragon> how's the horse?
[18:18] <JastaElf> *g* I told most folks the Orc is dead.
[18:18] <Shiral> We just can't take you to the bar, any more
[18:18] * the_Bee sends JastaElf quick-healing woodgies
[18:18] * Brom rubs his ears to recover from Rick's laughing
[18:19] <JastaElf> Oh, Jasper went RIGHT back to eating... *snicker*
[18:19] <Tika> ROFL
[18:19] <KK> Horses know their priorities.
[18:19] <JastaElf> yup...
[18:19] <JastaElf> And it was my fault for leaning over rather than
crouching beside.
[18:20] <Shiral> orcs? jeez, you go to rough bars!
[18:20] <JastaElf> lol! yup! best in middle-earth...
[18:20] <Wrengl> hi jasta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[18:20] <Wrengl> hi tika
[18:20] <JastaElf> Hi Pat! how's it going?
[18:21] * Wrengl tackles jasta and gives her a great big bear hug
[18:21] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:22] <RainbowDragon> just beware of her eye, wrengl
[18:22] <Shiral> I don't think I'd want to try Orc Grog though
[18:22] <JastaElf> No, me either. :-)
[18:22] <Wrengl> poor jasta
[18:22] <JastaElf> Yeah, owwies. :-) All my own durned fault tho.
[18:22] <Shiral> The hangover is a KILLER, and it's none too smooth
going down either
[18:23] <the_Bee> I bet orcs would enjoy Klingon blood wine
[18:23] <JastaElf> Yes, but Klingons would find Orcs dishonourable.
:-)
[18:23] <Wrengl> katherine, the duck says hello
[18:23] <Bynw> Wrengl, tell that duck he needs to come to chat again
[18:23] <RainbowDragon> where has that Duck been hiding?
[18:24] <the_Bee> in the Emerald City?
[18:24] * Brom wants to know if Pat means Duck Down Under?
[18:24] <Wrengl> i was verra careful of the eye
[18:24] <Samuel> I have a couple recipies for Romulan Ale on the shelf
behind me.
[18:24] <KK> Good to hear from Duck.
[18:25] <Wrengl> the duck was on his way off to work
[18:25] <Wrengl> i just caught him for a minute
[18:25] <Bynw> really sam?
[18:25] <Bynw> neato
[18:25] <Wrengl> and tomorrow (his tuesday) he is off to the field
again
[18:25] <Tika> oh Sam... you know what I want for my birthday, right?
:P
[18:25] <Tika> CHOCOLATE
[18:25] <Tika> MEAD
[18:25] <Tika> dammit
[18:25] * Brom reports that Duck Down Under was seen to be in good
condition as of 01 May ...
[18:26] <Bynw> that duck needs to be in chat again ... dang it
[18:26] <Wrengl> duck down under has spent a lot of time in the field
since then
[18:26] <KK> Duck down under--a good moniker!
[18:26] <RainbowDragon> lol
[18:26] <Tika> lol
[18:26] <Samuel> Tika: I have some in bottles in the basement. I just
hope it didn't turn to vinigar.
[18:26] <Tika> you have NO idea, KK
[18:26] <Brom> he spends alot of time on his digs ...
[18:26] <Bynw> dont make me get his number and call him
[18:26] * Tika winks at Wrengl
[18:26] <JastaElf> Sounds like it should be a recipe.... Duck Down
Under...
[18:26] <Wrengl> tee hee
[18:27] <Wrengl> we need to get him up here again!
[18:27] <Tika> well you could bring a bottle to Darkover to test, Sam
;)
[18:27] <Shiral> Bury a duck and cook it the way Hawaiians do for a
luau
[18:27] <the_Bee> another Grommette challenge?
[18:27] <Wrengl> tee hee
[18:27] <Wrengl> perhaps
[18:27] <Samuel> no no no.... a movie.... "Duck Down Under" a cross
between "Quigly Down Under" and "Kangaroo Jack"
[18:27] <JastaElf> Isn't there something called Duck under glass?
[18:27] <Brom> I saw him in Melbourne then
[18:27] <Wrengl> yes there is
[18:28] <Samuel> Tika: wilco!
[18:28] <Wrengl> and they have now found fossils of a carniverous
kangeroo and a demon duck
[18:28] * Tika giggles
[18:28] <Bynw> thats only like 5 cents a minute for the ld call for me
to Melbourne
[18:28] <the_Bee> a poor person;s substitute for pheasant under glass?
[18:28] <JastaElf> yup!
[18:28] <Tika> did Duck say "oh this must be one of my ancestors"?
[18:28] <ambush-cooking-dinner> lol
[18:29] * Tika giggles some more
[18:29] <ambush-cooking-dinner> rofl
[18:29] * ambush-cooking-dinner slaps Tika around a bit with a large
stinky catfish
[18:29] <Wrengl> yes, as a matter of fact he did, tika
[18:29] <Brom> shiral, I'll have you know that luaus do not involve
burying & cooking hawaiians ..
[18:29] <Tika> hah
[18:29] <ambush-cooking-dinner> lol
[18:29] <Wrengl> no long pig, brom?
[18:29] * JastaElf *giggles*
[18:29] <Shiral> No, but they do involve cooking pigs
[18:29] <Brom> except duck lives in Perth ...
[18:29] <Wrengl> indeed shiral
[18:29] <Shiral> Sorry, mis understood statement
[18:30] <RainbowDragon> isn't that why they call them that? Lu-ow!
[18:30] <Wrengl> and true enough brom, or more correctly Fremantle
[18:30] <Wrengl> lol rd
[18:30] <Shiral> At my college, the Hawaiian students held a luau every
year, and the night before, they'd hold a big party while cooking their
pig
[18:30] <Samuel> RD: only if the "guest of honor" is named Lu
[18:30] <Wrengl> are you moving this week, katherine?
[18:30] <RainbowDragon> heh heh
[18:31] * Tika pokes Harvey
[18:31] <KK> Not for 4-6 weeks. The new owners are in France for the
summer, and have asked us to stay until around the end of August. They
won't be moving in until mid-September.
[18:31] <Wrengl> ah
[18:31] <Brom> DDU is now working heritage issues with a mining company
[18:31] <Wrengl> well at least that gives you a little more time to
find a new place
[18:32] <Shiral> Ah, well that keeps things manageable schedule wise,
KK
[18:32] <JastaElf> Hard to think of Holybrooke in someone else's
hands... :-(
[18:32] <the_Bee> Anon3727, feel free to join in and introduce yourself
[18:32] <Brom> or Lou 8;
[18:32] <Wrengl> anon never answered the guestion i asked ages ago
[18:32] * ambush-cooking-dinner waves to harvey
[18:33] <Harvey> hi.
[18:33] <Harvey> I'm here.
[18:33] <Harvey> What did I do?
[18:33] <Wrengl> Anon3727 has been idle 3hrs 35mins 35secs
[18:33] <the_Bee> maybe s/he drifted away without logging off
[18:33] <Harvey> I'm getting poked.
[18:33] <Tika> nothing - that's why you were poked :)
[18:33] <Ethan> I've been out of it for a bit. Katherine, you are
moving? No more Hloybrooke?
[18:33] <ambush-cooking-dinner> hehe
[18:33] <Wrengl> yes you are harvey the silent
[18:33] <Harvey> Ah. Well thank you.
[18:33] <RainbowDragon> could be... or they might be shy and logging
the chat
[18:33] <Shiral> Nigel Haldane
[18:33] <Wrengl> tee hee
[18:33] <jemler> grin and bear it, harvey
[18:33] * JastaElf says "did someone mention Nigel???"
[18:33] <Bynw> they arent logging the chat from the java
[18:33] <Shiral> Just checking
[18:33] <Tika> shiral has a selective type of Tourettes Syndrome...
[18:33] <JastaElf> lol!
[18:34] <Tika> she just shouts out "Nigel Haldane" every now and then
[18:34] * JastaElf asks "Did someone mention Shiral??"
[18:34] <Brom> harv, it's endemic to being male
[18:34] <Bynw> no one mentioned Nigel
[18:34] <Harvey> Getting poked? Mentioning Shiral?
[18:34] <Bynw> or cheese for that matter
[18:34] <KK> A family has bought it--four kids. The house needs kids.
It will be good, and in good hands.
[18:34] * JastaElf asks "Did someone mention Shiral??"
[18:34] <Brom> all of the above
[18:34] <Shiral> That's good to know!
[18:34] <Shiral> Shiral
[18:34] <Shiral> Duncan
[18:34] <Shiral> Moat Monsters
[18:34] <Ethan> after all the work you put into it?
[18:34] <JastaElf> Well, I'm glad of that... but still.
[18:34] <the_Bee> Is your new home going to be another fixer-upper?
[18:35] <RainbowDragon> Kids should bring lots of happy vibes
[18:35] <Ethan> oh my, kind of sad really
[18:35] * JastaElf asks: "Did someone mention Duncan??"
[18:35] <Wrengl> sounds like they will really enjoy holybroke, then
[18:35] <Brom> Tiercel de Clarion
[18:35] <ambush-cooking-dinner> Kelson
[18:35] * Wrengl throws some shrimp to the moat monsters
[18:35] <Brom> Richenda
[18:35] * JastaElf whistles and stares at the ceiling
[18:35] * Shiral pokes harvey
[18:35] <jemler> is that holybroke, or "Wholly Broke?"
[18:35] <Wrengl> lol jemler
[18:36] <Brom> from my sis who lives nearby, the latter
[18:36] <jemler> Rothana
[18:36] <Shiral> Tiercel de Clarion? Is that a Gwynedd Newspaper
[18:36] <JastaElf> Sorry, I only perk up for Duncan and Nigel. *grins*
[18:36] <jemler> his name is de Claron
[18:36] <Mistyck> now that was a good one Shiral
[18:36] <ambush-cooking-dinner> Camber
[18:36] <the_Bee> Javan
[18:36] <KK> If we get the one we want, another restoration project.
(Goes far beyond a "fixer-upper.")
[18:36] <Wrengl> nigel
[18:37] <jemler> jasta, you DO know that Duncan is spoken for (BIG
TIME)
[18:37] * JastaElf asks "Did someone mention Nigel??"
[18:37] <Wrengl> tee hee
[18:37] <jemler> shiral did
[18:37] <Brom> and the wheel turns
[18:37] <JastaElf> Well yeah, he's a priest, and spoken for by God...
';-)
[18:37] <jemler> like i said big time!.
[18:37] <JastaElf> I can dream. :-)
[18:37] <Shiral> But the two of you could have a very platonic evening
discussing spirituality, nonetheless
[18:37] <Wrengl> jasta wants him just before he entered the priesthood
[18:37] <JastaElf> I'm a priest too, after all.
[18:37] <Wrengl> before he took his vows
[18:37] <jemler> kinky
[18:38] <JastaElf> *nods*
[18:38] <Wrengl> tee he
[18:38] <Bynw> yeah we know what kind of a priest you are JastaElf
[18:38] <Brom> shhh!
[18:38] <JastaElf> that too. *g*
[18:38] <Wrengl> lol
[18:38] <JastaElf> Shh, my bishop might hear. *huge grin*
[18:38] <Shiral> Or celebrate Mass together
[18:38] <ambush-cooking-dinner> i thought he spoke FOR god......wait,
no, that's Warren
[18:38] <Mistyck> Zevon?
[18:38] <Wrengl> indeed ambush
[18:38] <jemler> mass of what?
[18:38] <JastaElf> Mass with a big M. That eucharistic thing.
[18:39] <the_Bee> Katherine, do you ever regret having locked in a
character's death-date (like Javan's) long before you write his story?
[18:39] <Brom> six times a day?
[18:39] <Bynw>
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00067F1CE/ref=pd_ys_ir_all_60/103-3417230-5631060?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance
[18:39] <ambush-cooking-dinner> talk about stamina
[18:40] <KK> Sometimes it makes for--er--challenges. That's what made
me figure out how to give Camber a second lease on life.
[18:40] <Wrengl> ah
[18:40] <the_Bee> after Iomaire? or in HG?
[18:41] <jemler> bynw are you selling that tank!?!?
[18:41] <Brom> where do the C-M stories stand?
[18:41] <Bynw> no its just interesting
[18:41] <JastaElf> Bynw has a TANK?? What size are the treads??
[18:41] <Brom> are his neighbors that bad?
[18:41] <jemler> the link he just sent is for a tank on Amazon!
[18:41] <Shiral> Don't mess with Bynw!
[18:42] <ambush-cooking-dinner> yes,they are
[18:42] <Shiral> Where some of my neighbors are concerned, I've WISHED
for a tank
[18:42] <Wrengl> and it's only 20,000 dollars!
[18:42] <Brom> haven't we all ;-)
[18:42] <jemler> cheap isn't he?
[18:42] <Wrengl> yup
[18:43] <Shiral> A mere trifle--there are more expensive luxury cars!
[18:43] <Brom> cheaper than a H3
[18:43] <jemler> i wwouldn't want a hummer if they were recommended by
God. Ugliest things I ever saw.
[18:43] <KK> I'm ready to start Childe III right after we get moved.
Childe II will be out in time for Christmas.
[18:43] <Brom> yea
[18:43] <Shiral> Excellent, KK
[18:44] <JastaElf> yay!
[18:44] <kelric> yay
[18:44] <the_Bee> adding it to my wishlist
[18:44] <jemler> I'll put out my stocking
[18:44] <Mistyck> very cool KK
[18:44] <ambush-cooking-dinner> woot!
[18:44] <Wrengl> Yeah
[18:44] <JastaElf> Darn--not in time to get autographs at Darkover??
:-)
[18:44] <Wrengl> and i should have an amazon gift certificate by then -
for doing surveys
[18:44] <Anon3727> yay I'm also looking for it for Christmas
[18:44] <jemler> No rush KK. one book a month is fime :)
[18:45] <Wrengl> lol jemler
[18:45] <Bynw> lol
[18:45] <Tika> lol
[18:45] <JastaElf> After all, isn't writing easy??? You just stare at
the paper until you sweat blood?
[18:45] <natlog> not waiting for christmas -- release date is my
anniversary and my birthday comes in between as well
[18:45] <Brom> maybe we can sweettalk KK into having some ARCs brought
to Darkover (Begging with style ..)
[18:45] <Shiral> We don't want to be greedy, after all
[18:45] <JastaElf> *wry grin*
[18:45] <Bynw> well Scott needs to write a book ... #3 of the Knights
of the Blood ... poke him and drop a few hints for me on that KK :-)
[18:46] <KK> MIGHT be out for Darkover....
[18:46] <Brom> yea
[18:46] <Wrengl> lol bynw
[18:46] * JastaElf hyperventilates...
[18:46] <Bynw> book 3 ???
[18:46] <Wrengl> thee are many waiting for book 3 of knights of the
blood
[18:46] <Bynw> darkover???
[18:46] * jemler hands JastaElf a papwer bag, and tells her to breathe
[18:46] <Mistyck> yes there are
[18:47] <JastaElf> BRB--there's some baskin robbins "tea of
tranquility" ice cream calling my name
[18:47] <KK> We've got to get moved first. And then we need to get his
computer updated. He's still running Windows 98.
[18:47] <Shiral> Oh yea, he needs a new one, I'd say
[18:47] <Bynw> beats running windows me ....
[18:47] <Brom> maybe scott's having idea issues after the Davinci code
....
[18:47] <Wrengl> he is way behind!
[18:47] <jemler> don't get him Windows ME (Moron Edition) That program
is brain dead!
[18:47] * the_Bee uses windows 98
[18:47] <Wrengl> the davinci code is a pretty good murder mystery, IMHO
[18:48] <ambush-cooking-dinner> me too
[18:48] <Wrengl> i should finish it at the doctor's tuesday
[18:48] <RainbowDragon> After the first of the year, Windows Vista is
supposed to be released
[18:48] <jemler> did you ever read Angels & Demons?
[18:48] <Brom> but it does a number on the templars ...
[18:48] <Anon3727> I don't think microsoft sells ME any more
[18:48] <Wrengl> unless the intevenous benedril puts me to sleep
[18:48] <the_Bee> Davinci Code is on my to-do list
[18:48] <natlog> yay wrengl!
[18:48] <Shiral> Somebody should be original... and write the
Michelangelo Code, or something
[18:48] <KK> But it's a crap-written book, Wrengl!
[18:49] <Wrengl> true
[18:49] <Brom> course I loved National Treasure ... KK, sure you didn't
do script for that?
[18:49] <Wrengl> but it gives me something to do at the doctors
[18:49] <Wrengl> and i don't care if i fall asleep while reading it
[18:49] <Wrengl> and it was less than 5.00
[18:49] <jemler> make passes at the doctor, Wrengl
[18:49] <KK> I wish! I wish I'd gotten credited. I expect that the
author read Two Crowns.
[18:50] <JastaElf> Any way to sue them?
[18:50] <natlog> oops -- I missed a word wrengl -- I thought you were
saying you'd be finished with the *doctors* on Tuesday
[18:50] <Bynw> Two Crowns was a good book :-)
[18:50] <ambush-cooking-dinner> lol
[18:50] <Brom> probably not worth it to sue
[18:50] <Wrengl> nope just the book
[18:50] <Wrengl> still have three chemos to go
[18:50] <KK> There's too much else out there of the same sort now. But
I won't spend money on any more of his books. Couldn't believe how
badly written it was. On the other hand, it's sold millions. Can't
argue with that, I suppose.
[18:50] <Wrengl> and since i am still bleeding i know the tumor is not
yet gone
[18:51] <JastaElf> Brown's books, KK? I was very disappointed when I
read DaVinci Code.
[18:51] <Wrengl> i enjoyed two crowns
[18:51] <JastaElf> me too
[18:51] <the_Bee> alost everyone seems to have a strong opinion about
the book and/or the movie
[18:51] <KK> I'm not saying he plagarized.
[18:51] <Brom> well robert jordan is a big seller, and IMHO his books
are also crap .... but he supports the TOR line
[18:52] <JastaElf> Lots of writers put out crap. :-( And then lots of
good ones can't get a foothold.
[18:52] <KK> Too much info dumping in the film. And American Treasure
was much better.
[18:52] <jemler> i'm rereading the WOT series, now
[18:52] <the_Bee> wot?
[18:52] <Ethan> Wrengl, please do take care of yourself and get better
soon
[18:52] <Brom> natl treas = amer treas in UK?
[18:52] <Wrengl> we did not see national treasure
[18:52] <jemler> Wheel of Time
[18:53] <Wrengl> i am trying ethan
[18:53] <KK> Yeah, whatever. (See what an impression it made?)
[18:53] <the_Bee> ah. Robert Jordan?
[18:53] <Wrengl> although it is weeks since i have been up to walking
much
[18:53] <jemler> yah
[18:53] <Ethan> ok, prayers for you!!
[18:53] <KK> I agree re Jordan.
[18:53] <Shiral> Feel better Ethan
[18:53] <Ethan> me either, first real day out today
[18:53] <Wrengl> that is good
[18:54] <Wrengl> when i am up to walking these days it seems to be too
hot and humid!
[18:54] <KK> I've missed something here. Ethan, are you also ill?
[18:54] <Brom> my is with WoT is he loses control of his primary plot
and just keeps adding new plots and characters ...
[18:54] <Ethan> yes
[18:54] <KK> Sorry to hear that. Get better quickly!
[18:54] <Wrengl> we trade prayers, ethan!
[18:54] <Ethan> was diagnosed with Crohn's disease last fall and have
been not too good thisd year
[18:55] * JastaElf huggles Ethan and sends healing woodgies
[18:55] <Ethan> then broke my pelvis a couple of months ago
[18:55] <JastaElf> Owww...
[18:55] <Shiral> Ouch, not a fun combination, Ethan
[18:55] * JastaElf calls Rhys on speed-dial....
[18:55] <the_Bee> I enjoyed the Probability trilogy by Nancy Kress.
more scifi tan fantasy
[18:55] <Wrengl> not at all good
[18:55] <Shiral> Although nothing would be
[18:55] <Brom> Pat, re Natl Treasure, was panned by critics, but good
action/chase/treasure hunt flick
[18:55] <Ethan> not really but have been doing better this week
[18:55] <Ethan> I will Katherine
[18:55] <KK> Hmmmm, difficult to cope with. On the positive side, Anne
McCaffrey's daughter has Crohns--had terrible difficulties for a long
time--but she's doing fine now.
[18:56] <Wrengl> thanks brom, will look for it on tv
[18:56] <Ethan> I hope to be in the doing fine with it very soon
[18:56] <KK> Had a colostomy, I believe--but that seems to have
eliminated most of the problems. She's a great lady--just like her
mom.
[18:56] <Ethan> I didn't know about Anne's daughter
[18:56] <Brom> KK needs to bring forth a Deryni healer for Ethan
[18:57] <Shiral> Rhys doesn't seem to be answering his blackberry
[18:57] <jemler> and wrengl!!!
[18:57] <Wrengl> no he doesn't
[18:57] <Shiral> Better get him a cell phone!
[18:57] <Ethan> yes please!! and for Wrengl too!!
[18:57] <Wrengl> lol
[18:57] * JastaElf sends for Duncan for good measure
[18:57] <Brom> Pat, has Nick Cage, Jon voight, Harvey keital, Sean Bean
as main characters
[18:57] <KK> I don't think it's widely known. But she's happily
married, and she and her husband adopted a lovely baby who is now a
startlingly handsome young man of about 8.
[18:57] <ambush-cooking-dinner> lol
[18:57] <Shiral> Let's get everyone who was at St. Neot's on the job!
[18:58] * JastaElf envisions a tv series: er: st. neot's
[18:58] * Shiral thinks appreciative thoughts of Sean Bean
[18:58] <jemler> i'd still like to know if it was possible to use a
Portal to go back in time
[18:58] <the_Bee> KK, wasn't one of your cats born under Anne
McCaffrey's desk?
[18:58] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[18:59] <Ethan> that's very nice. Always good to hear of happy things
[18:59] <Brom> just picked up the latest AMcM/TMcM pern book ...
[18:59] <Shiral> "Sorry, we can't come to the emergency room, right
now. We're singing the Adsum Domine!"
[18:59] <JastaElf> "Well, sing it in the lift, dammit! We've got
patients coming in!"
[18:59] * Brom thinks appreciative thought of ... shh!
[19:00] * JastaElf thinks appreciative thoughts of nigel!!! :-)
[19:00] <Anon3727> Have you had a chance to start reading the AMcM/TMcM
book yet?
[19:00] <Shiral> Surprise, surprise <G>
[19:00] <Brom> not yet, got it this afternoon
[19:00] * JastaElf looks utterly innocent and blinks at Shiral
[19:00] <KK> My half-Maine-coon of blessed memory was so born; and
Jessie, of present blessings, is from one of her staff folk.
[19:01] * RainbowDragon is now known as RD_afk
[19:01] <jemler> what is a "half-Maine-coon"?
[19:01] <KK> Aie! Just looked at the time! I didn't realize it's now
an hour past Pumpkin Time.
[19:01] <JastaElf> That's a cat breed jemler...
[19:01] <Samuel> good night folks

[19:02] <Anon3727> good night KK
[19:02] <KK> Mother was a Maine coon cat, father an ordinary moggie.
He was a gorgeous silver tabby, only 3 when he was hit by a car and
killed. Rupurrt of happy memory.
[19:02] <Wrengl> say hi to scott from kathi and myself
[19:02] <Mistyck> night kk
[19:02] <Shiral> Thanks for popping by
[19:02] <jemler> missing you already, KK :(
[19:02] <Shiral> Poor Rupurrt
[19:03] <Ethan> good night Katherine
[19:03] * JastaElf smiles to remember the lovely Rupurrt...
[19:04] <KK> Good night to all. And special blessings to Pat and
Ethan--and anybody else who needs them. (That's the nice thing about
blessings: there's always plenty to go around!)
[19:04] <Ethan> many thanks
[19:04] <JastaElf> lol! indeed!
[19:04] <Shiral> night, kk
[19:04] <Wrengl> thank ye kindly
[19:04] <KK> I'll try to make it back next week.
[19:04] <Wrengl> :)
[19:04] <Brom> good night/good morning KK
[19:04] <Harvey> goodnight
[19:04] <Shiral> Sleep well
[19:04] <Shiral> Hello to Scott
[19:04] <KK> I might even be able to tell you we won't be homeless and
out on the street, come the end of August!
[19:04] <Wrengl> i may have some news by then
[19:04] <Brom> greets to scott
[19:05] <JastaElf> You can always come stay with me... *g*
[19:05] <Bynw> that would be great news
[19:05] <Shiral> That's always good! Not being homeless, I mean
[19:05] <jemler> move in here kk!!!
[19:05] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles.
[19:05] <JastaElf> Ooo, sparklies....
[19:05] <KK> Huggles to all, and nighters!
[19:05] <Shiral> Unusual portal!
[19:05] <jemler> Jasta, are you a Tolkien fan?
[19:05] <Bynw> sparklies are nice

[18:02] <Mistyck> hiyas kk
[18:02] <slobbit> lol!
[18:02] <Wrengl> hello katherine
[18:02] <Shiral> hi kk
[18:02] <slobbit> hi kk
[18:02] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK!
[18:02] <KK> Hello, folks.
[18:02] <Mistyck> how was your week?
[18:02] <Wrengl> we figured you would be in bed by now!
[18:03] * brom is glad he's wrong and welcomes KK
[18:03] <Wrengl> did you have a good week?
[18:03] <Bynw> its Katherine!!!!
[18:03] <Shiral> I guess we were both wrong, Brom
[18:03] <slobbit> several people were just saying you must be in bed
[18:03] <KK> Would have been, but Scott was on the machine.
[18:03] * ambush has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:03] <DeryniBot> ambush enters the chat as RainbowDragon passes
around a plate of cheese.
[18:03] <Wrengl> ah
[18:03] <Kelric> never mind. sound just came back up
[18:03] * ambush tackle-pounces kk
[18:03] <Wrengl> hi ambush
[18:03] <Ethan> hi kk
[18:03] <RainbowDragon> How was your week, KK?
[18:03] <brom> KK, hope your week has been cooler than over here
[18:04] <the_Bee> did you get your castle, KK?
[18:04] <ambush> hey Wrengl
[18:04] <KK> OK. We were supposed to go to a picnic yesterday, but it
was bucketing rain--so most of the picnic moved to the house. it was
fun.
[18:04] <Wrengl> i'll bet
[18:04] <Shiral> Not much fun to eat in the rain
[18:04] <KK> No news yet on the castle front. Hopefully, in a day or
two.
[18:04] <brom> yo ambush
[18:04] <Wrengl> indoor picnics can be fun
[18:04] <RainbowDragon> indoor picnics can be fun
[18:04] <Wrengl> fingers crossed, kk
[18:04] <brom> if not in basement ...
[18:05] <KK> It was nice--and we got to use the house again, got a
taste of what it would be like to actually use it the way it was
intended.
[18:05] <ambush> hey brom
[18:05] <KK> That was cool.
[18:05] <RainbowDragon> how far away is the potential new place from
your current abode?
[18:05] <the_Bee> KK. are you planning to settle in your new home, or
will it be another buy up, fix up, sell off?
[18:05] <KK> About 20 minutes farther south and west.
[18:05] <brom> ambush, good timing ...
[18:05] <RainbowDragon> ah, okay
[18:05] <KK> Buy up, fix up, stay.
[18:05] <ambush> ?
[18:06] <the_Bee> ah
[18:06] <brom> joining exactly when KK showed up ...
[18:06] <ambush> i live with Bynw, brom
[18:07] <RainbowDragon> he's got connections ;-)
[18:07] <ambush> you think i miss these things?
[18:07] <Shiral> And Bynw gets Ambushed <G>
[18:07] <Bynw> he can see connections if he's paying attention to them
[18:07] <brom> just figured u for psychic
[18:07] * ambush tickles rd and shiral
[18:07] * Shiral fights ambush off
[18:07] <KK> Still waiting for the sale to complete; was supposed to
close on Friday, but has been extended for a week to 10 days.
[18:07] <RainbowDragon> Does the new place need any fixing up at all or
is it good to go from the move in?
[18:07] <Mistyck> :(
[18:08] <Shiral> The sale of Holybrooke, or the purchase of the new
house?
[18:08] <KK> No problem; it's just that the buyers are in France on
their holidays, so things aren't moving as quickly. Sale of
Holybrooke.
[18:08] <Shiral> ah
[18:08] <KK> New place, if we get it, will require complete
restoration, probably take a year to a year and a half.
[18:09] <Mistyck> wow
[18:09] <Mistyck> that's a long time
[18:09] <brom> arrgh ... waiting and hoping they don't change minds
[18:09] <Wrengl> yup
[18:09] <KK> That's better than the three years it took to do what
we've just finished.
[18:09] <Kelric> holidays. the dreaded murphy of business deals
[18:09] <brom> or lose too much at the casinos
[18:10] <Wrengl> not funny brom
[18:10] <KK> It feels weird not to be working on the house anymore. We
keep driving past DIY stores and thinking about what we need to pick
up--and then we realize that we dont have to pick up anything at all,
'cause it's finished!
[18:10] <Wrengl> lol
[18:10] <Wrengl> i bet that seems strange
[18:10] <Bynw> oh that will be "fixed" when you get your new place
[18:10] <brom> no, been there with a sale lost cause of that ...
[18:10] <Shiral> At least until you start in on a new project =o)
[18:11] <KK> Yep--and everything will be much farther away--though
we'll still be able to use the same suppliers we've been training for
the past three eyars.
[18:11] <Wrengl> that is good
[18:11] * Bynw looked at some bengal kittens this morning from a local
cattery ... they were very very cute and adorable
[18:11] <brom> let me understand, new place is also in land of green?
[18:11] <Wrengl> i'll bet, bynw
[18:11] <Wrengl> kittens usually are
[18:11] <KK> Meanwhile, we still do not have a place to live in the
longer term. Gak!
[18:12] <Shiral> ek
[18:12] <KK> Yes, still in Ireland.
[18:12] * db144 has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:12] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws db144 into
the chat.
[18:12] <the_Bee> hi db144
[18:12] <ambush> he's been blabbing about them every chance he gets
[18:12] <db144> hello
[18:12] <Bynw> hey db
[18:13] <KK> Bengal kittens are cool, Bynw.
[18:13] <brom> then none of the problems of cross-borders shipping of
furniture, etc ...
[18:13] <KK> Scott loves their little spotted bellies.
[18:13] <db144> hello again :)
[18:13] <Bynw> yes they are ... i'm going to get one ... maybe two
[18:13] <KK> They're expensive, though.
[18:13] <brom> hey db12^2
[18:13] <Shiral> I keep telling myself I've got two little spotted
tummies already
[18:13] <db144> hi brom
[18:13] <Shiral> For about the price of one Bengal
[18:13] <RainbowDragon> hopefully they are as good natured as the
average variety of house cat
[18:14] <Shiral> They're very lively, curious cats
[18:14] <brom> any pictures of new house as yet?
[18:14] <KK> I'm told they're very gregarious.
[18:14] <Bynw> they are
[18:14] <KK> Nope. We don't have it yet.
[18:14] <Bynw> since i've now seen them in person
[18:14] <Shiral> They have to be kept entertained, or they can
misbehave
[18:14] <slobbit> my kitty has a spotted tummy, and he was
free--because someone abandoned him at the bus depot
[18:14] <KK> I've heard that, too. So definitely get two, so thei can
entertain one another.
[18:14] <KK> That's food advice, whatever kind of cat one gets.
[18:14] <Shiral> My spotted tummy cat came from the shelter...but she
had a surprise inside
[18:15] <KK> good advice, even.
[18:15] <Bynw> and the cattery is gonna give me a deal on 2 of them ...
[18:15] <KK> lol, she did, indeed, Shiral!
[18:15] <brom> that too...
[18:15] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[18:15] <slobbit> the food advice would be, obviously, to buy twice as
much as for one cat
[18:15] <Shiral> But the baby is so cute, there was NO way I was going
to let her go
[18:15] <KK> lol, yes, slobbit~
[18:16] <Shiral> And now NIna's just a love sponge, with a cute tummy
of her own
[18:16] <KK> The baby is adorable and gorgeous!
[18:16] * Tika has joined #Deryni_Destinations

[18:16] <DeryniBot> Hi there Tika! Welcome to the chat.
[18:16] <Shiral> hi tika
[18:16] * Tika waves
[18:16] <KK> Big eyes!
[18:16] <the_Bee> hi tika
[18:16] * ambush tackle-pounces tika
[18:16] <RainbowDragon> hi teek
[18:16] <Shiral> VERY big Eyes, And very cute white paws
[18:16] <brom> hey tika ..
[18:16] <Shiral> So it all turned out for the best
[18:16] <Tika> hehe KK must be looking at the cattery website :)
[18:16] <KK> A charmer, to be sure.
[18:16] <KK> No, I'm talking about Nina.
[18:17] <Shiral> She rules the roost with a benevolent Iron Paw
[18:17] <Wrengl> hi tika
[18:17] <KK> But I looked at the cattery site a couple of days ago.
[18:17] <Tika> lol Iron Paw
[18:17] <RainbowDragon> http://www.goldcharmbengals.com/upcoming.html
[18:17] <Shiral> It must really be Baby Bengal season, as I sent KK a
link for a different Bengal Cattery a couple of days ago
[18:18] <brom> i've found scottish folds to be great pets ...
[18:18] <Tika> one in your area, Shiral?
[18:18] <Shiral> no
[18:18] <Wrengl> i love scottish folds
[18:18] <Shiral> Alas, I got the link off my cat newsgroup
[18:18] <KK> I've never met a Scottish fold in person.
[18:18] <Shiral> i can't afford bengals!
[18:18] <KK> Are they people-cats?
[18:18] <Ethan> hi Tika
[18:18] <Shiral> So I'll stick with the girls I've got
[18:19] <Wrengl> but with a house full of domestic shorthaired
goddesses and lions i need to refrain for any more
[18:19] <brom> very gentle and loving ... and short hair ...
[18:19] <KK> I think Scottish folds tend to be sort of burly, like my
Nicholas.
[18:19] <Tika> Wrengl has the meow mafia, its tough to get another one
in :)
[18:19] <KK> At least that's the impression I get, from photos.
[18:20] <Shiral> Nicholas is a lovely lad. How is Edgar faring?
[18:20] <Wrengl> indeed teek
[18:20] <brom> don't know i'd say burly, but are rounded, flatter faces
with folded ears ..
[18:20] <KK> From the way Wrengl's mob proliferates, I should think
it's hard to keep new ones <out>.
[18:21] <KK> Edgar is hanging in there; meds seem to have bought him
some more time. Of course, he mostly sleeps--but then, he did that
before....
[18:21] <the_Bee> how old is he?
[18:21] <KK> 17 and counting.
[18:21] <Shiral> That's a venerable pussy cat
[18:22] <KK> Yep.
[18:22] <Shiral> But Pan slept a lot in his last years
[18:22] <KK> They all sleep a lot.
[18:22] <Shiral> yup
[18:22] <Wrengl> yeah but additions come from kitty tummies!
[18:22] <Shiral> Right now, it's naptime on the Serengeti Plain
[18:22] <KK> Incidentally, guess what Gus proudly brought into the
house yesterday morning.
[18:22] <Bynw> that was like my monty kitty before he crossed the
rainbow bridge many years ago
[18:22] <Shiral> A bat?
[18:22] <Wrengl> although madam, scarlett, and lockett have moved out
[18:22] <KK> A live frog, about 4 inches long, undamaged.
[18:23] <Tika> a present!
[18:23] <KK> No, Jessie brought in the bat a few days before that--also
unharmed.
[18:23] <Bynw> did he give it to you as a present?
[18:23] <the_Bee> so now you have a croakpet?
[18:23] <brom> got my scottish fold in '89 at wash dc cat show ... was
queen of roost for many years before final sleep last summer ...
[18:23] <Shiral> He must have seen you needed one, KK =o)
[18:23] <KK> Well, he certainly announced his arrival downstairs,
proudly calling me to come and see what he'd caught.
[18:23] <Wrengl> lol
[18:24] <Shiral> They're always so proud of themselves!
[18:24] <KK> I think it was the one Scott had rescued a few days
earlier from the bowl under the front fawcet and put into the foundain
in the back.
[18:24] <Wrengl> slightly different present from squirrel tails,
katerine
[18:24] * Shiral sends a comforting Hug to Brom
[18:24] * Kelric Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:24] * Kelric has left IRC
[18:24] * Wrengl does same
[18:24] <Bynw> cats always give you the most interseting of gifts to
show their love
[18:24] <Wrengl> yes they do
[18:24] <KK> Well, yes. The squirrrel tails often had the squirrels
still attached, in Hero's day--or parts of squirrels. Though not for
long.
[18:25] <KK> We do have mighty hunters in this house.
[18:25] <Shiral> For the one you love--they always bring the hairy
beast
[18:25] <KK> lol
[18:25] * brom thanks shiral and will pass hug to Rick ... couldn't
take her to hawaii, so Rick had her since 2002 in Fairfax ...
[18:25] <the_Bee> Remind me--are Nicholas and Jessica littermates?
[18:26] <KK> No, they're next door sweethearts; Gus and Tillie are
littermates.
[18:26] <Shiral> I'm sure my girls would bring me interesting artifacts
if I let them out, but they are both indoor cats
[18:26] <the_Bee> ah
[18:27] <KK> But they'd pounce on any mouse unlucky enough to get
in--and probably do in a wayward cricket or cockroach.
[18:27] <Shiral> Oh yes. Insect life is scarce around here
[18:27] <KK> Now you know why--in addition to your housekeeping.
[18:27] <Bynw> my mom doesnt have any mice anymore ... not a one in the
last 2 years that Neko has been there
[18:27] <brom> Caitlyn would climb onto back of chair when watching tv
or at computer and then lay across shoulders and back of neck ...
[18:27] <KK> ;-)
[18:28] <Shiral> And if Earth is ever attacked by aliens that look like
leather tassels or drinking straws, my girls will protect us all!
[18:28] <Tika> ROFL
[18:28] <Shiral> Pan was a furpiece like that, Brom
[18:28] <KK> We have to go inot the attic tomorrow to find some
documents, so I think I'm going to take a cat or two up with us; we
know there are mice in the attic.
[18:28] <Shiral> A definite shoulder cat
[18:29] <brom> it was OK until she'd start 'cleaning' my hair & ears
...
[18:29] <KK> Ah, the dreaded leather tassel monsters and their drinking
straw allies!
[18:29] <Shiral> you know it, kk
[18:29] <Ethan> the attic at Holybrooke?
[18:29] <Shiral> Small tubular aliens beware--Nina is on the job!
[18:29] <KK> Yep.
[18:30] <Ethan> is it extensive?
[18:30] <KK> Yes, big attic.
[18:30] <Shiral> Sounds like paradise for a mighty hunter
[18:30] <Ethan> should be quite the adventure for them then.
[18:30] <brom> like the Vorkosigan House attic?
[18:30] <Ethan> fresh hunting grounds
[18:31] <the_Bee> Vorkosigan?
[18:31] <brom> full of lots of stuff from ages past ...
[18:31] <KK> Dunno about that kind of attic. My only concern is that
they not go too far in, to the part where there's insulation. If that
happens, then woould have to be bathed.
[18:32] <KK> One doesn't want them licking fiberglass off their fur.
[18:32] <RainbowDragon> definitely not
[18:32] <Shiral> Ew, no
[18:32] <Shiral> Don't imagine they'd appreciate the bath much, either
[18:33] <KK> Anyway, that's what we've been up to--and I've been
polishing on High Deryni. By next week, I hope to have more definite
news on the impending move.
[18:33] <brom> furniture, suits of armor, old weapons, ...
[18:33] <Shiral> Good news about HD, though =o)
[18:33] <KK> Just boxes of books and files.
[18:33] <Wrengl> that is good news katherine
[18:33] <KK> I got the page proofs for Childe Morgan, too, so those
have to be done by Aug. 17.
[18:34] <Wrengl> i just ordered some new books from B&N.com
[18:34] <brom> need any help ...
[18:34] <Shiral> Good thing you have a house Hiatus then, KK <G>
[18:34] <KK> Timing is good, though, since both projexts will be
wrapped up before we have to really hunker down to the moving.
[18:34] <Wrengl> so we will have new books for my chemos and for the
trip next month
[18:34] <KK> Yep.
[18:34] * db144 has left #Deryni_Destinations
[18:34] <KK> Anyway, it's now past 12:30, so I'd better sign off.
[18:34] <Wrengl> night katherine
[18:34] <Bynw> have a good night KK
[18:34] <Shiral> Night Katherine.
[18:34] <Wrengl> hope to see you next week
[18:34] <brom> bye KK, have a good week ..
[18:35] <the_Bee> goon night and good week, Katherine
[18:35] <Ethan> good night Katherine
[18:35] <RainbowDragon> Good night, KK
[18:35] <Shiral> GOod luck polishing and proofing
[18:35] <Wrengl> when i might not be melting
[18:35] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles.
[18:35] <KK> Is it a bit cooler now?
[18:35] <Wrengl> nope
[18:35] <Shiral> Yup, at least on my coast
[18:35] <KK> We've cooled down here.
[18:35] <Wrengl> another heat wave
[18:35] <Wrengl> sigh
[18:35] <brom> nope ... 100 here
[18:35] <KK> Pat, you're not allowed to melt.
[18:35] <Wrengl> of course it was nice having a cat scan friday - heavy
air conditioning
[18:35] * Shiral is grateful for a bit of cool air
[18:35] <KK> Was cat scan good?
[18:36] <KK> Is the tumor shrinking?
[18:36] <Wrengl> i am sleeping longer to enjoy bedroom ac
[18:36] * brom is sitting in front of a fan ...
[18:36] <Shiral> But you get cat scanned every day from the Meow Mafia,
Pat!
[18:36] <Wrengl> don't know yet
[18:36] <KK> lol!
[18:36] <Wrengl> they did chest, abdomon and pelvic area
[18:36] <Mistyck> g'nite Katherine, have a great week!
[18:36] <Wrengl> guess she wants to ensure it has not spread
[18:36] <Wrengl> true shiral
[18:36] <KK> We'll all keep our fingers crossed and keep the prayer
wheels turning.
[18:36] <Wrengl> and frankie charges a lot less!
[18:37] <Wrengl> ;)
[18:37] <Shiral> And Tumor Shrinking Woodgies flowing
[18:37] <Ethan> yes we will!!
[18:37] <Wrengl> thank you for all the prayers
[18:37] <Shiral> All Frankie wants is a kipper?
[18:37] <brom> and prayer beads
[18:37] <Wrengl> lol
[18:37] <Wrengl> no a few shrimp is more like it shiral
[18:37] <Shiral> Still, cheap at twice the price =o)
[18:37] <KK> lol. Nighters, everybody.

[17:16] <Olympia> aieee! Jasta, I TOLD you that being a Court Baroness
is not regarded as trash out here
[17:16] <Shiral> hi kk
[17:16] <Wrengl> hello katherine
[17:16] <TerryOBrien> katherine!
[17:16] <Olympia> speaking of countesses......
[17:16] <Wrengl> how goes?
[17:16] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK!
[17:16] <the_Bee> Hello, Katherine!
[17:16] <JastaElf> hi kk!
[17:16] <Wrengl> is the leg better
[17:16] <Bynw> KK!!!
[17:16] <RainbowDragon> ambush wake up
[17:17] * TerryOBrien nudges ambush
[17:17] * Shiral wakes up Ambush by dropping down on him from a height
[17:17] <KK> My goodness, duchesses and court baronesses...
[17:17] * Tika waves
[17:17] <Olympia> <deflects the olives at Ambush>
[17:17] * Dan has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:17] * Dan sets mode: +o Dan
[17:17] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws Dan into the
chat.
[17:17] <Olympia> Yep it's us :)
[17:17] <Tika> ambush is sleeping, unfortunately...
[17:17] <Dan> Hi folks
[17:17] <Wrengl> hi dan
[17:17] <the_Bee> hi Dan
[17:17] <Bynw> its Dan in the early evening?
[17:17] <Shiral> hi dan
[17:17] <Bynw> thats unusual
[17:17] <Dan> Hi... I'm a "batchelor" today.
[17:17] <Wrengl> ambush will probably eat them olympia
[17:17] * JastaElf waves and checks her pearls
[17:17] <RainbowDragon> Dan is here for KK chat!
[17:17] * Shiral is a commoner
[17:17] * Dan chears...
[17:18] <Dan> Paints drying too...
[17:18] * Wrengl would be a commoner if ever got to an event
[17:18] * Dan is being a good boy.
[17:18] <RainbowDragon> How was your week, KK?
[17:18] <Olympia> Hey Katherine... bunches o' peeps say hi - Terry,
Sherry, Pat, Robear, Gabrielle, Jared -- we were at a party last night
at John & Bjo's
[17:18] <KK> More of the same--except for the knee adventure with
Oswald.
[17:18] <the_Bee> ?
[17:18] <RainbowDragon> knee adventure?
[17:18] <Olympia> I told them about Oswald (Terry had to do the kg
conversion for us, of course, 'cuz we don't do that kinda math)
[17:18] <KK> Took Mr. O to the vet to have his toenails clipped.
[17:19] <KK> He tried to commit hari kiri from the stainess steel vet's
table.
[17:19] <TerryOBrien> Tried to fly, did he?
[17:19] <KK> I tried to brace him. He won, my knee lost--but only a
sprain, and it's mostly better now.
[17:19] <KK> 2.2 lbs to a kilo.
[17:19] <Wrengl> good
[17:19] <Shiral> Well, good. It sounded painful
[17:19] <the_Bee> flying is kamikaze. Harakiri is knives
[17:20] <Shiral> Not to mention inconvenient
[17:20] <TerryOBrien> Same result
[17:20] <Wrengl> yup
[17:20] <KK> It was painful. So much for trying to protect our bionic
investment--but at least I succeeded in that.
[17:20] <KK> Not that we yet know where we'll be living next....
[17:20] <Olympia> <sending thought waves....>
[17:20] <the_Bee> still hoping for your castle?
[17:20] <RainbowDragon> so the place is officially sold now?
[17:21] * Dan quietly suggests Earth as a place to live.
[17:21] <KK> Place is sold--sale should close early this week.
[17:21] <Shiral> Now I'm going to be thinking of Oswald as "The Bionic
Dog" ever after.
[17:21] <Wrengl> lol
[17:21] <KK> Well, he does have two bionic legs, so I suppose that
qualifies.
[17:21] <the_Bee> which two?
[17:21] <Wrengl> what are you painting dan?
[17:21] <KK> front
[17:22] <Shiral> Half a Bionic Dog, at least
[17:22] <the_Bee> what happened to him?
[17:22] <Dan> Walls Wrengl.
[17:22] <KK> At least
[17:22] <Wrengl> i am painting an identifying device on our suitcases
[17:22] <KK> When do you leave for Alaska?
[17:22] <Wrengl> thought i was doing emlyn's device from the novel --
turns out i have done the derry device!
[17:22] <Dan> Alaska is Awe enspriing.
[17:22] <Wrengl> we fly to seattle a week from tomorrow
[17:23] <natlog> hi dan -- been a long time
[17:23] <KK> Woo-hoo!
[17:23] <Shiral> "Derry, Bring our bags won't you? There's a good
chap.."
[17:23] * Bynw notes that he will be running a Deryni Adventure Game
online starting tomorrow night ....
[17:23] <natlog> hi shiral and KK
[17:23] <Shiral> Hi Natlog
[17:23] <Dan> Hi nat... sure has been.
[17:23] <Wrengl> spend five nights in seattle at a cost of $30.00 total
and the cruise leaves on saturday 2 september
[17:23] <the_Bee> where's the site, Bynw?
[17:23] <KK> not bad!
[17:23] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[17:23] <Wrengl> county derry
[17:24] <Olympia> Jasta, Weir finished 11 under
[17:24] <Dan> We went our of Vancouver for our Alaska Cruise/Tour.
[17:24] <KK> Are you going to do a tour of underground Seattle?
[17:24] <JastaElf> Wow! That's some amazing golf!!
[17:24] <Wrengl> of course there are probably nolans living there
anyway -- nolans seem to live or have lived just about everywhere in
ireland
[17:24] <Bynw> that is an awsome tour ... highly recommended
[17:24] * Bynw has been on it
[17:25] <Dan> Which one did you do Bynw?
[17:25] <KK> Scott first went on it when he was a boy, with his dad,
before there were official tours.
[17:25] <RainbowDragon> Bee, the game will be on this server in
#The_11_Kingdoms
[17:25] <Wrengl> well we are going to do the space needle, the sf
museum, pike street market and the tillman (sp) indian village
[17:25] <the_Bee> I've read about the underground city. How did it get
underground?
[17:25] <Bynw> the underground tour ... there was only one
[17:25] <KK> They kept throwing sawdust into the streets, the street
level rose, so they built up.
[17:25] <Dan> Ahhh. Thought you were referring to Alaska...
[17:25] <Wrengl> then see how i am feeling, although i have told kathi
to not stay in the hotel if my get up and go does not get up on a
particular day
[17:25] <Olympia> pike's market!!!!!!!!!! the place of sacred origin...
starbucks!
[17:25] <Shiral> I don't know about underground tours, you have to
spend so much time DIGGING
[17:25] <JastaElf> lol!
[17:26] <JastaElf> I love the market...
[17:26] <Bynw> i love seattle
[17:26] <Bynw> if i ever move out of iowa again it will be that
direction
[17:26] <KK> No digging; they built up.
[17:26] <Shiral> Seattle is nice
[17:26] <Olympia> me too - and tossing the fish - and there's a Russian
place next to starbucks with THE best pierogi
[17:26] <Wrengl> starbucks - yuck
[17:26] <Bynw> just south of seattle actually ...
[17:26] <Shiral> I know, I'm being silly
[17:26] <Olympia> Well what do you expect from a Yankees
fan?????????????????????
[17:26] <JastaElf> lol!
[17:26] <the_Bee> What's the name of Chaarles De Lint's fictional city?
IIRC, that has an underground city too.
[17:27] <Wrengl> now THAT is something to remember
[17:27] <Olympia> LOL Melissa - that's what you hire people for - to do
the digging for you :)
[17:27] <Wrengl> we like pierogi
[17:27] <Wrengl> and i am planning to find someplace for sushi
[17:27] <Olympia> these are unabashed with butter pierogi
[17:27] * Shiral likes pierogi too
[17:27] <Wrengl> have not had sushi since before my chemo started
[17:27] <Olympia> roflmao "some" place for sushi! my dear pat, you will
be in seattle
[17:27] <Shiral> I ate an abashed pierogi once, there really wasn't
much point
[17:27] <Olympia> the fish leap out of the water and fillet themselves
for you!
[17:27] * Dan had sushi for dinner last night...
[17:27] <Wrengl> well i figure that coast should have it also
[17:28] <KK> Shouldn't be any problem. Yum, now I'm hungry for some.
[17:28] <Dan> *nods*
[17:28] <Wrengl> lol nancy
[17:28] * TerryOBrien is planning on having sushi for dinner once the
chat is over
[17:28] <Olympia> <giggling at Melissa in apprecition>
[17:28] * the_Bee has never tasted pierogi. What is it?
[17:28] <Olympia> oops appreciation - I'm meeting John 'n our friends
for some Texas 'cue for dinner.
[17:28] <Olympia> ooooooooooo pierogi
[17:28] <Wrengl> not half as hungry for it as i am
[17:28] <Olympia> russian meat pie in pastry with potato and lots of
butter
[17:28] <Shiral> Sounds good
[17:28] <Wrengl> seven months without it!
[17:28] <Tika> 'cue... like BBQ??
[17:28] <RainbowDragon> I just ate and we had shells 'n cheese with
broccoli bits
[17:28] <Olympia> yep
[17:28] <Tika> MMMMMM
[17:28] <Shiral> I wonder if there's a Barbecue Pierogi...
[17:28] <Tika> lol
[17:29] <Olympia> I don't like the place 'cuz it Texas 'cue (vinegar,
not sweet sauce)
[17:29] <the_Bee> a Russian version of shepherd's pie?
[17:29] <Olympia> Katherine, did you ever eat at the Bear Pit on
Sepulveda
[17:29] <Bynw> blah! broccoli is ... nasty icky gross stuff
[17:29] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[17:29] <Olympia> No no Bee - think puff pastry with meat, onions,
potato and BUTTER
[17:29] <Wrengl> i have filet mingnon to make for dinner
[17:29] <Shiral> Don't mind me, being very silly today
[17:29] <the_Bee> My family used to call me Brocoli Jane because I
liked the stuff.

[17:30] <Olympia> yes with hot mustard
[17:30] <Olympia> broccoli is awesome!
[17:30] <Shiral> You mean you can't cook them just through carrying
them through a hot kitchen?
[17:30] <Wrengl> well a little more cooked for me but not much, nancy
[17:30] * Dan notes that tempura'd broccoli is good too...
[17:31] <Wrengl> yes it is dan
[17:31] <Mistyck> hi all
[17:31] <Olympia> Yes, Melissa. Sounds perfect. Re broccoli, saute
garlic and butter, then put in broccoli and more butter. Then raisins.
Not kidding. Wonderful
[17:31] <Wrengl> kathi likes her a bit more cooked, though
[17:31] <RainbowDragon> raisins?
[17:31] <the_Bee> "chase the steer past my table and I'll cut the piece
I want as he runs by.
[17:31] <natlog> hey mystick
[17:31] <Olympia> I like it where the vet could still cure it

BOTH your teams wish they had! HAHA!!!
[17:32] <TerryOBrien> Why am I reminded of the Peter Davidson scene
from the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?
[17:32] <the_Bee> long, SLOW cooked till fork tender is good, too.
[17:32] <Wrengl> oh
[17:32] <Olympia> for brisket, yes, Bee - with St. Louis or KC 'cue

passes around a plate of cheese.
[17:32] <Wrengl> never filet
[17:32] <Wrengl> hello kelos
[17:32] <Olympia> I have to agree with Pat
[17:32] <the_Bee> or braised short ribs
[17:32] <TerryOBrien> Hiya Kelos
[17:33] <the_Bee> hi kelos
[17:33] <Mistyck> hi Kelos
[17:33] <Wrengl> braised short ribs are good too

[17:33] <Olympia> amen natlog amen
[17:33] <Shiral> Made by Bulgogi of course, Pat!
[17:33] <Wrengl> just think of all the food raids that would bring
about
[17:34] <Wrengl> lol shiral
[17:34] <natlog> I'm calling it the DDPN _deryni dinner portal network
-- any volunteers?
[17:34] <Olympia> never mind the food raids - just being able to talk
face to face
[17:34] <Dan> *blinks* Folks in a chat room have FACES. *Gasp*
[17:34] <Bynw> but the food raids would be good ... Wrengl is always
cooking up something yummy
[17:34] <TerryOBrien> we could talk face to face over dinner ... best
of both worlds
[17:34] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Darkover just a literal step away... that'd be
capital.
[17:34] <Shiral> With air travel getting less pleasant all the time, I
think we REALLY need a transfer portal network
[17:34] <Olympia> Jasta I lied - Weir is still in
[17:35] <RainbowDragon> what does bulldoggy sauce taste like?
[17:35] <Olympia> I have actually met a fair number of the peeps here
so I can attest - yes they have faces :)
[17:35] <Tika> rofl
[17:35] <TerryOBrien> it probably has a bite to it
[17:35] <Shiral> I'm so relieved, I have a face!
[17:35] <Olympia> LOL Bulkogi/bulgogi sauce is Korean - LOTS of garlic
[17:35] <Bynw> we havent seen it at darkover in a while though Shiral
[17:36] <Shiral> I'm cultivating an air of mystery, Bynw
[17:36] <Dan> I was wondering what the aroma was.
[17:36] <the_Bee> nowadays you'dspend more time at the airport than at
the con. :o(
[17:36] * Dan has a nephew in the Macy's parade this year, so yet

[17:37] <Olympia> Isn't the parade on Thursday?

[17:38] <Wrengl> lol bynw
[17:38] * Kelos_al-Hazar pours himself a stein of IBC root beer and
grins at Bynw...
[17:38] <Olympia> John's uncle is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a
brother in the Sacred Heart monastery in woonsocket, RI so we're going
for the celebratory mass.
[17:38] <Olympia> it should be amazing
[17:38] <Wrengl> we are doing thanksgiving in baltimore with friends
who are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary
[17:38] <Olympia> (poor John - already he's saying, "Um, babe, are you
gonna cry through the whole thing???")
[17:39] <Dan> lol
[17:39] <Shiral> Woonsocket.. sounds like a town in a sci-fi novel =o)
[17:39] <TerryOBrien> Bynw is not the only one getting hungry
(hungrier)
[17:39] <JastaElf> I would....
[17:39] <Olympia> Katherine, Albra and I took John to the San
Buenaventura Mission in Oxnard... oh boy... as usually I couldn't stop
crying!!!
[17:39] <Tika> who could that be, Wrengl? :)
[17:39] * Kelos_al-Hazar has parents who celebrate their 50th wedding
anniversary in December...
[17:39] * JastaElf turns 50 in october...
[17:40] <Wrengl> gee i don't think anyone here would know them

[17:41] <Tika> hah, Olympia... if you only knew ;)
[17:41] <Wrengl> by the way, those who know me will see a greyer but

[17:42] <KK> We could do wedding cake....
[17:42] <Tika> I'm getting a top layer wedding cake for Thanksgiving
dinner... I suppose I could ask for 2 layers :)
[17:42] <Olympia> way better 'n those darn wafers wots sticks to da
roof of yer mouth
[17:43] <Wrengl> and there will be the infamous fruit cake also
[17:43] <Tika> gonna try to get the same one we had at the weddding -
it was yummy!
[17:43] <Wrengl> a shot in a slice for Nancy and John
[17:43] <Tika> then of course there is Wrengl's shot in a slice :)
[17:43] <KK> No, we can't use wedding cake instead of wafers....
[17:43] <Olympia> sigh. u r no fun katherine. i would feel much more
religious about cake!
[17:43] <Olympia> with frosting
[17:43] <Olympia> heavenly angelic frosting
[17:44] <Dan> lol
[17:44] * Tika imagines a stern look heading in Olympia's general
direction
[17:44] <Tika> ;)
[17:44] <Wrengl> i can remember a mass with rolls katherine, many years
ago
[17:44] * Dan wonders what cake in the face has to do with everything.
[17:44] <RainbowDragon> angel food cake?
[17:44] <Olympia> HEY, I'm Jewish. I'm allowed! We have BREAD at
service, not pastillage!
[17:44] <KK> Ah, but rolls are bread. I've got no problem with that.
[17:44] <Bynw> come on KK, you bless it and we call it good :D
[17:44] <KK> Hallah is good.
[17:45] <Dan> he he he.
[17:45] <Wrengl> well lets use challah rolls (they're sweet!)
[17:45] <Wrengl> tee hee
[17:45] <Olympia> and wedding brunch after services!
[17:45] <Olympia> :)
[17:45] <TerryOBrien> How about hot cross buns?
[17:45] <Dan> Chocolate bars - baked inside?
[17:45] <Olympia> with cake
[17:45] <Shiral> How about wafers AND wedding cake later?
[17:45] <Wrengl> unfortunately I could never get a challah to last that
long
[17:45] <Bynw> hot buns?
[17:45] <KK> We could use challah, I suppose.
[17:45] <Olympia> hee hee me neither Pat
[17:45] <Wrengl> hmm maybe i could freeze it
[17:45] * Bynw looks at tika and smiles
[17:45] <TerryOBrien> Not only are they appropriate, they're
traditional and period to boot.
[17:45] <Wrengl> from a real jewish bakery
[17:45] <Olympia> I'll bet we could find a bakery in the area that does
the special round challad
[17:45] * Tika gives Bynw a stern look
[17:45] <Wrengl> if i do not have them slice it, we could cut it on
sunday
[17:46] <Tika> ok a *nice* stern look :)
[17:46] <Bynw> she's so cute when she does that
[17:46] <the_Bee> hot buns? only if you sit on a red hot stove
[17:46] <Shiral> ow
[17:46] <KK> The only thing is, we could only use part of it--as much
as we were willing to consume. And it doesn't keep.
[17:46] <Shiral> A convention full of cake eaters should be able to
take care of at least SOME cake
[17:46] <Olympia> ok we can have Those Wafers and THEN we can have CAKE
[17:47] <Wrengl> lol
[17:47] <Olympia> I'll even be really nice and let John have my wafer
<grin>
[17:47] <Olympia> Aren't I a good wife?
[17:47] <Shiral> Bride and groom on top in Michaeline garb
[17:47] <Shiral> Such selflessness, Olympia =o)
[17:47] <Olympia> Actually, I'm so excited about the mass for his
uncle! I've never been to a monastery where the monks were still living
there.
[17:48] <Wrengl> well the rest of a loaf could always be consumed in
the pub with smoked salmon
[17:48] <Wrengl> especially if we bring it back with us from alaska
[17:48] <Wrengl> that should be extra exciting olympia
[17:49] <Olympia> Jasta, he did it. Unbelievable. I think it's a course
record
[17:49] <the_Bee> Whats' his final score?
[17:49] <RainbowDragon> not being silly here... I thought females at a
monastery was verboten
[17:49] <Olympia> Plus I think his uncle is going to do a special
blessing for us
[17:49] <Olympia> I'm waiting to see - RD, inside the church it's ok
[17:49] <RainbowDragon> ah
[17:50] <Wrengl> i think they allow women into the chapel for mass and
such
[17:50] <Shiral> But she can't pay any midnight visits to the brothers
in their dortoir
[17:50] <Olympia> The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are a teaching
order. His uncle lived in London for 30 years
[17:50] <Olympia> as a headmaster
[17:50] <Shiral> Anyway, you think we're talking about the Custodes
Fidei????
[17:50] <Olympia> Jasta - 12th major championshp, 2nd most all time
behind Jack
[17:50] <Olympia> Jack was 33 at his 12th win; Tiger is 30
[17:51] <JastaElf> wow!!!
[17:51] <Wrengl> so tiger has time to surpass jack
[17:51] <JastaElf> That guy is astonishing...
[17:51] <Olympia> oh yeah - figure that Jack JUST retired...
[17:51] * ambush-short-nap is now known as ambush

[17:52] <Kelric> heh
[17:52] <ambush> ick
[17:52] <Shiral> Oof, Hi Ambush, she grunts
[17:52] <ambush> didnt say it wasnt gentle
[17:52] <ambush> :p
[17:53] <Shiral> An Ambush is an ambush!
[17:53] <ambush> lol
[17:53] <Olympia> Tiger -18, Shaun Mikeel -13, 3-way tie for third
[17:53] <Wrengl> lol
[17:54] <ambush> woohoo
[17:54] <ambush> go tiger
[17:54] <KK> I keep getting interrupted. Actually, we've got a guest
in from Vienna, so I probably ought to go.
[17:54] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Question for the "craft"y here... is it
possible to create a ring that is four metals (i.e.: like a Trinity
ring, except four instead of three)? Also, how difficult is it to do
what is necessary to make a ring out of (say) copper?
[17:54] <Wrengl> good night katherine
[17:54] <Dan> Oooo. I want to visit Vienna some day.
[17:54] <Wrengl> any word on the castle you wanted?
[17:54] <Dan> Night.
[17:54] <Shiral> bye, kk
[17:54] <RainbowDragon> a guest from Vienna!

[17:55] <Olympia> Bye Katherine!
[17:55] <natlog> goodnite kk
[17:55] <Olympia> see you soon!!! :)
[17:55] * Kelos_al-Hazar has parents headed toward Vienna starting the
25th; river cruise...
[17:55] <KK> Doesn't look like we're going to get it. He really
doesn't want to sell. Of course, he <could> still change his mind....
[17:55] <Wrengl> copper would be fairly easy it is a very soft metal
[17:55] <the_Bee> a Viennese guest? I never sausage a thing!
[17:56] <Shiral> You need Camber to help out
[17:56] <Wrengl> you arre BAD bee
[17:56] <RainbowDragon> where will you stay then? I hope you won't have
to live out of boxes
[17:56] <KK> He's actually English/Welsh, but lives in Vienna.
[17:56] <Shiral> Close enough =o)
[17:56] <KK> I fear that almost everything will be in storage, at least
in the short term.
[17:56] <Olympia> (Vienna in Europe or Vienna, VA?)
[17:56] <Dan> lol
[17:56] <KK> Duh. Austria, of course.
[17:57] <Olympia> what duh??? sheesh. It COULD be Vienna, VA....
[17:57] <Dan> It's a whole lot closer to her than VA is ...
[17:57] <KK> If it were VA, would nearly be Jasta.
[17:57] <Shiral> Alas I must soon head out, myself
[17:57] <Olympia> and closer to US than say, Ireland!
[17:57] <Shiral> Back to the rockpile also known as the Ref Desk
[17:57] <Wrengl> night shiral
[17:57] <KK> Very true.
[17:57] * Kelric starts his next semester of library school in about a
week and a half
[17:57] <Olympia> us = john & nancy
[17:57] <the_Bee> are you at work, Shiraal?
[17:57] <Shiral> Yuppers
[17:57] <Dan> :-)
[17:58] <KK> Is it cooler now, where you guys are? Or still having
heat waves?
[17:58] * Dan hints broadly.
[17:58] <Wrengl> a bit cooler here
[17:58] <Shiral> It's cool enough for comfort where I am
[17:58] <Dan> Less scortching KK
[17:58] <Olympia> another heat wave this coming week altho they
downgraded the temps from 108 Tuesday to 100
[17:58] <the_Bee> rainy today
[17:58] <Dan> I wouldn't use the term "cooler" though.
[17:58] <Wrengl> 80s instead of 90s or above
[17:58] <KK> Less hot, then.
[17:58] <Dan> :-)
[17:58] <Wrengl> yup
[17:58] <Olympia> I'm going to the market tomorrow morning and then I
am NOT coming out until Sunday when we go to Anaheim for brunch w/ Carl

[18:00] <KK> Yes, she will.
[18:00] <Dan> :-)
[18:00] <KK> She's already left.
[18:00] <Olympia> I see posters for her son (?) all over the place -
hey Katherine, did she like the quilt book?
[18:00] * Dan read the last book she & Todd had out.
[18:00] <KK> Yep. And she's very proud of Todd.
[18:00] <Wrengl> i have not seen her since white dragon came out and
she did a tour including new york and we presented her with her copy of
the first ever, authorized, pern fanzine
[18:00] <KK> He seems to be a worthy successor to the franchise.
[18:00] <Olympia> Very cool, Pat.
[18:00] <Wrengl> i would have liked to see her again
[18:00] <Dan> He does.
[18:01] <Wrengl> i have not gotten any of the books he has written yet

the zine
[18:01] <Wrengl> i intend to
[18:01] <Dan> At least, visit your local library...
[18:01] <TerryOBrien> Todd is the one who organized the shower of silly

GRandmaster award

[18:01] <KK> I've just finished the last Harry Potter, and have started

[18:02] <Dan> My daughter e-mailed Anne some questions once (cause she
grew up close to here) and got a wonderful reply back.
[18:02] <Wrengl> it was good
[18:03] <TerryOBrien> I need to go, too. Dinner is calling and I must

[18:02] * KK sets mode: +q KK
[18:02] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws KK into the
chat.
[18:02] <jemler> kk!
[18:02] <RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK
[18:02] <Dov> welcome katherine
[18:02] <Shiral> Hello Katherine
[18:03] <Mistyck> hiyas Katherine!
[18:03] <kirienne> Hi Katherine
[18:03] <the_Bee> hi kk!
[18:03] <Dov> that could work
[18:03] <Bynw> Katherine!!!
[18:03] <RainbowDragon> How was your week, KK?
[18:03] <KK> Hello, people. I was just drooling over Mr. Darcy in his
wet shirt, and the end of Pride and prejudice.
[18:03] <Shiral> We're at it again, KK... Casting
[18:03] <kirienne> lol
[18:03] <jemler> How about Jeanette for Ariella?
[18:03] <KK> ah.
[18:03] <Shiral> Oh, a worthy drool magnet
[18:03] <Baphnedia> kk!
[18:03] <KK> Indeed.
[18:03] <Shiral> Colin Firth should play Brion!
[18:03] <KK> That is such a great production.
[18:04] <Shiral> There IS no other Mr. Darcy
[18:04] <kirienne> that's a good one Shiral, good choice
[18:04] <KK> I agree.
[18:04] <Dov> i could see her as ariella
[18:04] <Shiral> I could see Charles Dance as Wencit, possibly
[18:04] <KK> I see him as more of a Nigel.
[18:04] <KK> Ooooh, yes!
[18:04] <Dov> don't know who he is
[18:05] <KK> He was so evil in Golden Child.
[18:05] <Dov> ok got it
[18:05] <Shiral> Distinguished, good coloring match for Wencit, and he
could play the part perfectly
[18:05] * Martine has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:05] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws Martine into
the chat.
[18:05] <Mistyck> hiyas Martine
[18:05] <kirienne> Hi Martine
[18:05] <jemler> Martine, hello
[18:05] <the_Bee> hi Martine
[18:05] <Martine> hi all!
[18:05] <KK> It's the new Honda owner!
[18:05] <Shiral> Hi Martine
[18:05] <Baphnedia> hi Martine
[18:06] <jemler> vroom vroom
[18:06] <Baphnedia> zoom zoom?
[18:06] <Martine> LOL yup! Or at least will be come Wednesday :-)
[18:06] <RainbowDragon> KK, Bynw and Tika have their new kittens home
:-)
[18:06] <KK> And Shiral, I didn't realize that you were one, too.
[18:06] <Shiral> yup
[18:06] <KK> Kitties!
[18:06] <Martine> Very very cute kittens, too!
[18:06] <Bynw> zoom zoom is mazda
[18:06] <Martine> Adorable, even.
[18:06] <Shiral> For about the last two years, KK
[18:06] <Shiral> Had to buy one when my last car died ON my birthday in
2004
[18:06] <Baphnedia> what timing!
[18:07] <Shiral> It was NOT a happy birthday!
[18:07] <Shiral> but, i love my honday
[18:07] <Shiral> Honda, too
[18:07] <jemler> What kind of present did you wish for?
[18:07] <Martine> Somehow I don't think she wished for a dead car <g>
[18:07] <Shiral> well.. not that one!
[18:07] <kirienne> I would not think so, since you had to spend a lot
of money, instead of getting lots of presents
[18:08] <Shiral> As a matter of fact, that was one of the worst
birthdays I've ever had
[18:08] <Martine> poor shiral!
[18:08] <Shiral> But if that's as bad as it gets, I still have a lot to
be grateful for. =o)
[18:08] <Shiral> Anyway, did not mean to hijack the discussion
[18:08] <Shiral> I think Colin Firth would ALSO make a fine Nigel
[18:09] <Shiral> Or even a fine Jehana... he could play ANYBODY, and
I'd still go see the movie!
[18:09] <Shiral> Especially if he got wet.....
[18:09] <Martine> rotfl! you and me both!
[18:09] <kirienne> how is the house hunting going KK, did the guy
change his mind and decide to sell, or have you been looking at other
places?
[18:10] <Martine> Matthew MacFadyen wouldn't be half bad either....
[18:10] <KK> We find out tomorrow, but we aren't holding our breaths.
However, the sale on this house is supposed to finally close tomorrow.
[18:10] <jemler> good luck
[18:10] <Martine> Good luck! Is tomorrow move-out day too, or do you
have a few days for that?
[18:10] <RainbowDragon> I hope you get the home you are wanting
[18:10] <kirienne> so do I
[18:10] <KK> Yep. And in a few days, the movers start packing us up.
[18:11] <Mistyck> :( bye bye Hollybrooke
[18:11] <KK> It will take two or three days.
[18:11] <Shiral> Or if you don't get it, that something just as good or
even more perfect for you comes along soon after
[18:11] * the_Bee sends good house-hunting woodgies to KK
[18:11] <KK> Yep.
[18:11] <Shiral> It will be hard to get used to living small for a
little bit.
[18:12] <Shiral> But the Cottage walls are NOT closing in on you!
[18:12] <Kiri`-afk_baking> hi kk
[18:12] <Martine> lol shiral!
[18:12] <KK> It will be really small where we're going for the short
term. A cottage down in Arklow.
[18:12] <Martine> Small isn't sooooo bad. Less to clean. Lots to trip
over....
[18:12] <the_Bee> I wonder how the cats will like it
[18:12] <Shiral> A feeling of coziness... Coziness is good...
[18:13] <Baphnedia> Coziness is always good.
[18:13] <KK> My e-mail will stay the same, at least for a while; I can
transfer the account to the phone there.
[18:13] <jemler> itty bitty for the kitty
[18:13] <Baphnedia> 1200 sq feet is too much for me by myself.
[18:13] <KK> 5 of the babies will have to go into boarding.
[18:13] <Mistyck> how small is small though? If it's like 2000 sq ft
it's not too bad
[18:13] <KK> Oswald and Edgar come with us.
[18:13] <Martine> Heh. Baph, my hubby and I share an 800 sq ft house.
And he's a packrat :-P
[18:13] <Martine> How's Edgar doing?
[18:13] <the_Bee> Seniority has its perquisites?
[18:13] <Baphnedia> ouch
[18:14] <Shiral> Unless the numbers are very, very small, or very very
large, I can never figure out how square footage translates to actual
living space
[18:14] <jemler> Martine, if it's packed, pitch!
[18:14] <Baphnedia> Martine, I hear that. I'm a packrat, if I have a
600-800 sq ft place, but my stuff lounges all over the place with so
much space.
[18:14] <KK> Edgar is doing great. The vet saw him Wed or Thurs, when
I took him in with Oswald for Mr O to get his shots up dated for
boarding.
[18:14] <KK> She was amazed and delighted.
[18:14] <Martine> yay!!!! go edgar!
[18:14] <Shiral> I'm glad Edgar perked back up!
[18:14] <Baphnedia> Which should be interesting as I travel around
North America next year working on my next album.
[18:14] <kirienne> wonderful new KK
[18:14] <Mistyck> great to hear!
[18:14] <kirienne> news even
[18:15] <Baphnedia> glad to hear KK!
[18:15] <Shiral> There's a new KK? But we like the original one!
[18:15] <Baphnedia> I really need to read your books... :p
[18:15] <KK> Yep, I figure we've bought him some good quality time.
[18:15] <Martine> What genre of music, Baph?
[18:15] <kirienne> I hope he likes his temporary home
[18:15] <Shiral> "Oh wonderful, she came to her senses and decided to
make me the only cat!
[18:15] <Shiral> thinks Edgar. =o)
[18:15] <Mistyck> haha
[18:15] <Martine> Sigh.... Edgar's my favorite Holybrooke kitty.
[18:16] <Martine> lol shiral!
[18:16] <KK> I think Edgar will miss his buddies. Now, if it were
Jessie coming with us....
[18:16] <Shiral> It's close between Edgar and Nicholas for me
[18:16] <Martine> lol!
[18:16] <Baphnedia> It's rather what instrument with me. I play the
violin and/or fiddle, accoustic or electric. But what I write is
ambient.
[18:16] <Martine> "Those others are gone! Including the heathen
siblings! It's mine! ALL MINE! Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!"
[18:16] <Shiral> yes, He will probably wonder who he's going to talk
to, after he gets used to the strangeness of new quarters
[18:16] <kirienne> lol
[18:16] <Martine> Awesome, Baph! I used to be a semi-pro keyboardist.
[18:17] <Baphnedia>
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006VBUT8/sr=8-1/qid=1156720493/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0490646-7742330?ie=UTF8
[18:17] <Baphnedia> Do you still have 10 fingers Martine?
[18:17] <Shiral> The separation will be hard for Gus, since he seems to
think he's your shirt, KK
[18:17] <the_Bee> I've been trying to compose a lullaby tune on my
flute
[18:17] <Baphnedia> (sorry for grabbing the discussion like that gah)
[18:17] <KK> Yep. And Sasha is a close second.
[18:18] <Martine> LOL yup, I do. But Raynaud's Syndrome has slowed and
stiffened them down too much to play like I used to.
[18:18] <Martine> Poor Gus and Sasha.
[18:18] <Baphnedia> Ahh. How many musicians do we have here?
[18:18] * Shiral sort of raises her hand as she's a sort of musician
although not professionally
[18:18] <the_Bee> one very amateur
[18:19] <Mistyck> I write lyrics
[18:19] <Martine> Baph -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000088E6E/sr=1-2/qid=1156720612/ref=sr_1_2/103-9895132-9306239?ie=UTF8&s=music
[18:19] <Martine> I orchestrated and played in the first run of that
show.
[18:19] <Martine> Back when the fingers still flew and could handle
Rachmaninoff, Chopin and show tunes :-)
[18:20] <kirienne> I have no musical talent, but i do sing with my SCA
group, we call ourselves Golden Rivers VAT, for voacl assault team, we
sing in the key of off :_)
[18:20] <Baphnedia> Understood. :)
[18:20] <KK> She's still very good!
[18:20] <Martine> <blush> Thank you.
[18:20] * Baphnedia is a member of Shittemah Shire (I think I've got
the spelling all wrong) up in WA state
[18:20] <Shiral> I play stereo extremely well, now
[18:20] <kirienne> lol
[18:20] <Baphnedia> I'm wondering what kind of music would work well
for some of KK's books
[18:20] <the_Bee> I write poetry then try to make tunes for it
[18:20] <KK> I was going to say that I play the (tape) recorder. ;-)
[18:21] <Martine> Hee hee, Shiral! I play that more than my piano these
days.
[18:21] <jemler> i play the air guitar
[18:21] <Baphnedia> hehe
[18:21] <jemler> i won a grammy!
[18:21] <Shiral> Love music, but whatever I was put on Earth to do, it
was NOT to compose music
[18:21] <KK> Sounds like we could put together a pretty good scratch
ensemble.
[18:21] <the_Bee> me neither but I do it anyway ;}
[18:21] <Baphnedia> Well, if I were to start with one book for
reference/inspiration/something....
[18:21] <Baphnedia> what book would it be?
[18:21] <Shiral> Madrigals might suit KK's books
[18:22] <Shiral> The Grove Dictionary
[18:22] <the_Bee> ballads
[18:22] <Mistyck> Deryni Rising is a good one to start with, Baph
[18:22] <KK> Gregorian chant, chamber music....
[18:22] <Martine> Chanconeta Tedesca! ;-)
[18:22] <KK> yes!
[18:22] <Dov> madrigals, pavanes, 600-1600
[18:22] <Shiral> Trouvere songs
[18:22] <Kiri`-afk_baking> I think Camber of Culdi is a good one to
start with myself..
[18:22] <Martine> Or Douce Dame Jolie. Take your pick.
[18:23] <Baphnedia> mmmm
[18:23] <Shiral> The Anonymous Four is a good women's group for
medieval sacred vocal music
[18:23] <Baphnedia> I might start with Deryni Rising :)
[18:23] <KK> Yes, I like them!
[18:23] <Martine> me too!
[18:23] <Shiral> I like them in brief doses. I listen too long and I
get a little tired of them
[18:23] <KK> That's my sugggestion--that you read them in the order
they were written.
[18:23] <Baphnedia> So far as a scratch group, I think we have them
right here. Once we make it - someone else can arrange it for The
Annonymous Four (and others)
[18:23] <Shiral> But the voices and the blending are wonderful
[18:23] <Martine> Though recently I sold out and started listening to
Medievil Baebes more <g>
[18:24] <KK> btw, i'm nearly finished with the re-polish of high
deryni.
[18:24] <Mistyck> woohoo!!!
[18:24] <Shiral> The Paris Hilton of the Middle Ages, Martine?
[18:24] <the_Bee> cool!
[18:24] <Mistyck> great news!!!
[18:24] <Baphnedia> hehe
[18:24] <Martine> whoo hoo, kk!
[18:24] <kirienne> ooohhh, wooo-hooo
[18:24] <Martine> LOL, Shiral! That's me, shallow and tasteless.
[18:24] <Shiral> Congratulations, KK
[18:24] <Dov> great news kk
[18:24] <kirienne> lol martine
[18:24] <Shiral> Well, the title sounds kind of silly to me, <G>
[18:24] <Shiral> NOT your taste
[18:25] <Baphnedia> Deryni Rising (The Chronicles of the Deryni, Volume
1)
[18:25] <Baphnedia> THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. If you would
like to purchase this title, we recommend that you occasionally check
this page to see if it has become available
[18:25] <Baphnedia> :(
[18:25] <Shiral> Baphnedia, try www.alibris.com
[18:25] <Shiral> They sell used books
[18:25] <Shiral> or www.bibliofind.com
[18:25] <KK> It should be available. It was reissued in hardcover a
couple of years ago....
[18:25] <Martine> You'd like them, Shiral. All-female singing group
that performs medieval songs with a modern folk twist.
[18:26] <Shiral> These days, I'm seriously into Wagner, Martine.
[18:26] <the_Bee> or www.allbookstores.com for price comparisons
[18:26] <Baphnedia> cool
[18:26] <Martine> http://www.mediaevalbaebes.com/
[18:26] <Baphnedia> On Amazon, it's not availalbe, in hard or soft
cover... :/
[18:26] <the_Bee> Santa gave me DR and Codes for Christmas
[18:26] <Shiral> But the new editions of Rising and Checkmate SHOULD be
available on Amazon
[18:26] <Martine> I hear those Valkyries are riding wild these days...
;-)
[18:26] <the_Bee> Codex also
[18:26] <Baphnedia> but I will have a used one on the way to me later
tonight. :)
[18:27] <Shiral> Must STOP spending money.
[18:27] * Baphnedia needs to, too.
[18:27] <Shiral> Have quarterly taxes AND car insurance due next month
[18:27] <Martine> LOL doesn't someone have a birthday comign up? ;-)
[18:27] <Baphnedia> Yes.
[18:27] <Shiral> Well... she does, yes
[18:28] <Martine> Isn't it customary to send small tokens of friendship
or familial affection on such events? <bg>
[18:28] <jemler> my neice next week
[18:28] <Shiral> Actually, THREE people I know have birthdays coming up
and two family members have November birthdays
[18:28] <Shiral> Jasta... is going to be getting handmade from me, I
think
[18:28] <Shiral> Although I gave her a house last year
[18:28] <kirienne> she will love it I'm sure
[18:29] <the_Bee> We have four December birthdays, including one on
Christmas day
[18:29] <kirienne> what kind of house did you give her?
[18:29] <KK> Guys, I need to go to bed. We emptied about 6 of the big
1-ton bags of trash into a dumpster today, plus schlepped some
boxes--and I'm bushed! Plus, tomorrow is going to be a busy day.
[18:29] <Martine> Hee hee can I get a house for Christmas? Something
around 1500 sq ft would be lovely! <g>
[18:29] <Baphnedia> Anyone in here have september birthdays besides
myself (8th(
[18:29] <Shiral> Night, Katherine
[18:29] <Shiral> Happy House Hunting and book polishing
[18:29] <Martine> Good night, Katherine, and good luck with the moving
business!
[18:29] <Mistyck> take care Katherine...hope you get good news on the
house hunting
[18:29] <Baphnedia> cool, have a good one KK!
[18:29] <jemler> gnoght kk, sleep well
[18:29] <the_Bee> have a good week, Katherine
[18:29] <kirienne> nighty night Katherine, hugggggss, and good luck with
house getting
[18:29] <Martine> Give the kitties and doggy a scritch for me
[18:30] <Baphnedia> I'll read and start writing some music or
something. :)
[18:30] <Dov> stay well katherine
[18:30] <Shiral> Tell Edgar his friends won't be going away FOREVER
[18:30] <Shiral> It's all temporary
[18:30] <KK> Don't know whether I'll make it to chat next week or not.
Depends on how set up we are at the cottage.
[18:30] <Shiral> We'll expect you if we see you
[18:30] <KK> I am not looking forward to this week--other than the
money!
[18:30] <Baphnedia> hehe
[18:30] <Mistyck> hehe
[18:30] <Martine> Receiving large sums of money can always brighten a
hellish week <g>
[18:30] <Shiral> That green stuff comes in handy, yeah
[18:30] <kirienne> I need to go too, i have to go to the store and buy
quarters so I can do laundry tonight, i sure wish i had my own washer
and dryer
[18:30] <KK> Happy rest of Sunday to all of you.
[18:30] <Shiral> But moving is hell
[18:31] <Martine> So long as you don't think about the need to spend it
all again in the near future... ;-)
[18:31] <Shiral> Sleep well, KK
[18:31] <Mistyck> take care and have a good week Katherine
[18:31] <Shiral> Dream of Wet Mr. Darcy
[18:31] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles.
[18:31] * Martine drools
[18:31] <Shiral> not drool wet, martine!
[18:31] <Dov> especially if you have month left over at the end of the
money
[18:31] <Mistyck> lol
[18:31] <KK> Heh-heh! Darcy..... Mmmmmm....
[18:31] <Martine> why not? It can get him wetter! <g>
[18:31] * jemler passes martine a bib
[18:31] <Martine> Thanks, jemler <hee hee>
[18:31] <Shiral> You and Nancy have the same reaction to him, KK <G>
[18:31] <Baphnedia> Maybe there should be a zombie movie made for Mr.
Darcy?
[18:31] * KK Quit
[18:31] * KK has left IRC

[16:57] * KK has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:57] * KK sets mode: +q KK
[16:57] <DeryniBot> The smell from Wrengl's kitchen draws KK into the
chat.
[16:57] <Mistyck> hi Katherine!
[16:58] <KK> Hello, folks.
[16:58] <RainbowDragon> Hi KK, you made it!
[16:58] <Shiral> hi kk
[16:58] <Bynw> you made it KK
[16:58] * Bynw gives kk a hug
[16:58] <jewahe> hello kk...
[16:58] <Samuel> hello kk
[16:58] <KK> Yep, though this will probably be the last time for a
while. The movers start packing us up in the AM.
[16:58] <KK> hey, sam!
[16:58] <Shiral> Busy times ahead
[16:58] <RainbowDragon> are you nervous? Excited?
[16:59] <Kelric> you will be missed around here for a while
[16:59] <KK> Yep. Yesterday we got all the stuff down from the attic
and up from the cellar. I was in the attic pushing and carrying boxes
to the mouth of the attic, a kid was on the ladder taking them down and
handing them to Scott at the bottom of the ladder. Hard on the back!
[16:59] <jewahe> Did I understand correctly that you're moving to
Vermont?
[16:59] <KK> Excited more than nervous.
[17:00] <KK> Not Vermont. Maybe Virginia. You got the V right. :-)
[17:00] <Shiral> East, state starts with a V... close enough
[17:00] <KK> Yep.
[17:00] <jewahe> Ah...never been to Virginia...But have been to
Vermont...
[17:00] <Samuel> I thought you had your eye on a lovely little "fixer
upper" not too far from you...
[17:00] <Kelric> hey, that's within driving distance of Darkover :)
[17:01] <Shiral> Will definitely shorten KK's Darkover commute
[17:01] <Bynw> we've driven to darkover before
[17:01] <Samuel> california is within driving distance of Darkover.
Just depends on how long you want to drive.
[17:01] <RainbowDragon> I believe that is temporary housing only
[17:01] <Kelric> rotfl
[17:01] <KK> We flew in to Scotland for the day on Friday and looked at
a charming little pocket-sized gentleman's lodge that looks a lot like
a castle. It's wee, but we could just about fit it. But we want to
look at half a dozen properties in Virginia before we make a final
decision.
[17:01] <Shiral> well... not for just a weekend, it isn't Sam
[17:01] <jewahe> I've thought about doing a drive up the East Coast on
one of my vacations...heading up to Washingon, D.C. to the tourist
thing.
[17:02] * Dov has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:02] <DeryniBot> Dov enters the chat as RainbowDragon passes around
a plate of cheese.
[17:02] <KK> The castle here in Ireland is out of the equation. The
owner just isn't ready to sell.
[17:02] <Kelric> my final decision on whether I end up going to
darkover will be made on the 11th after I get my syllabi for my 2
monday classes
[17:02] <Shiral> Little will require less upkeep
[17:02] <jewahe> okay..newbie here...darkover?
[17:02] <Samuel> Shiral: yea, the drive would be 3 or 4 times the time
you stayed at the hotel.... but, it could be done.
[17:02] <Shiral> yes
[17:03] <Shiral> But that's way more time than I want to spend in
transit
[17:03] <KK> Yes, but it's remote--though within about 1-1 1/2 hours of
Edinburgh airport.
[17:03] <Dov> but you will still be able to buy the house in scotland?
[17:03] <RainbowDragon> Darkover is a sci fi convention that KK attends
[17:03] <KK> If we decide it's the one we want, after we've looked at
the places in Virginia.
[17:04] <Shiral> Held in MD on Thanksgiving weekend
[17:04] <KK> My main concern about Virginia--besides leaving Europe
before we're really ready--is the heat of the summers.
[17:04] <jewahe> okay...
[17:04] <Dov> i can relate to that
[17:04] <Samuel> KK If you come back to
[17:05] <Bynw> thats why we invented AC :-)
[17:05] <jewahe> Boy...I can relate to that, too...after living in
Memphis for 4 years, no where feels quite so hot anymore
[17:05] <Samuel> America, would you have Adam Sinclaire come over for a
visit and meet up with a "Hunting Lodge" over here?
[17:05] <KK> We <are> going to take a short vacation before we actually
make any move, since the critters will already be in the boarding
kennel.
[17:06] <KK> Hoping to do a Rhine cruise for about a week to 10 days.
[17:06] <Bynw> ooooh a Rhein cruise :-)
[17:06] <Shiral> Look out for Rhinemaidens
[17:06] <Shiral> You wouldn't want to lose Scott overboard
[17:06] <Samuel> Rhine cruise..... all those castles to explore
[17:07] <KK> Yeah, you see things on one river bank on the way, and the
other side on the way back--and you get to get off along the way to see
neat stuff ashore.
[17:08] <Samuel> I'd end up missing the boat if I got off.
[17:08] <KK> Nah, you make sure to get back in time. We did it all the
time when we were lecturing on cruise ships.
[17:09] <Samuel> I can make a quick 20 minute trip into a meuseam last
at least 2 or 3 hours.
[17:09] <KK> Well, yes. And sometimes you do have to move along more
quickly than you want to. it was that way at Mont St. Michel.
[17:09] <Samuel> when I'm looking at history, time and reality rarely
co-inside.
[17:10] <KK> Yeah, but a too-short visit is better than never to have
seen anything....
[17:10] <Shiral> It will be a nice time of year to float down the
Rhine, though
[17:10] <KK> Should be.
[17:10] <Shiral> Kinda have to prioritize about what you really want to
see, knowing you can't see all of it
[17:11] <KK> And I guess Pat and Kathi are cruising off Alaska about
now.
[17:11] * Bynw moves the i and e around from the english spelling to
the proper german spelling of Rhein
[17:11] <Mistyck> yes they are
[17:11] <Shiral> Let us know if you glimpse any Rheingold
[17:12] <KK> Point for Bynw. Of course it's Rhein.
[17:12] <Shiral> Says Herr Rheinherren
[17:12] <Bynw> ja
[17:13] <KK> Labor Day ought to be a good day for that.
[17:13] <KK> BTW, how many of you have been drowning this past week?
[17:14] <KK> I understand there's been a <lot> of rain.
[17:14] <jewahe> Not me...I thought Ernesto was going to go right over
us, but we only got the most outer bands of rain, and only briefly...
[17:14] <Samuel> Maura came to visit Yesterday and the day before.....
was raining both days.
[17:14] <KK> Up to a foot in some parts of Virginia?!
[17:14] <Shiral> Fortunately, I'm well out of Ernesto's path
[17:14] <Bynw> we had a really great cooling rain yesterday afternoon
[17:14] <RainbowDragon> We got a few sprinkles today and thats all
[17:14] <Mistyck> I'm a bit worried about my house in New Mexico
[17:14] <Bynw> it was wonderful
[17:15] <jewahe> We've had a pretty wet summer here...but it has been
really dry and hot at my parents' house.
[17:15] <Mistyck> Hurricane John pieces/parts are hitting southern New
Mexico
[17:15] <KK> I know that fall is in the air over here. And yesterday
our second batch of swallows flew for the first time--all but one
little bird who just sat shivering in the nest all day yesterday and
today. I hope he/she isn't deformed or something.
[17:16] <Shiral> I hope he/she overcomes the fear of flying before the
whole family disappears
[17:16] <jewahe> We've got another month before there's a hint of
fall...
[17:16] <KK> I hope the parents don't just despair and leave it to
starve to death, when they're all ready to head off to Africa for the
winter.
[17:16] <jewahe> It'll go from 90 to 40 in a week, too...
[17:17] <jewahe> Maybe it's just a late bloomer and will be out of the
nest in a couple of weeks.
[17:17] <KK> At least we did get to see them fly; batch #2 all grown
up. I actually found halfes of their shells when they first hatched.
[17:17] <KK> halves
[17:17] <KK> About the size of a thimble.
[17:18] <Shiral> Such little birds!
[17:18] <KK> It's amazing how tiny they are when they first hatch.
[17:18] <Shiral> Newborn babies of almost any species are pretty tiny
[17:18] <Dov> "...But the African swallow is non-migratory! (Monty
Python and the Holy Grail)"
[17:18] <Shiral> Relative to their adult size, anyway
[17:18] <KK> Well, these go somewhere....
[17:19] <Bynw> lol dov
[17:19] <Bynw> i was thinking that too
[17:19] <KK> And they come back around the first of May.
[17:19] <Shiral> They'll be bewildered to find someone else living at
Holybrooke
[17:19] <KK> Always to the same roost, year after year. They've got a
duplex up in our front porch. (Actually, it isn't really <our> front
porch, as of last Wednesday, when the sale completed. Sigh.)
[17:20] <Shiral> Welll... you did live at Holybrooke for a long time,
so it's hard to break old habits.
[17:20] <KK> Ah, but we've reminded the new owners that they must look
out for the swallows, and try to keep them safe. It's local tradition
that swallows are the luck of a house, and you interfere with them at
your own peril.
[17:20] <RainbowDragon> How long were you at Holybrooke?
[17:21] <Shiral> I hope they'll remember to reassure the chimneys,
too. =o)
[17:21] <KK> It would have been 19 years in late October.
[17:21] <RainbowDragon> ah, okay
[17:21] <KK> We came to Ireland 20 years ago last June.
[17:21] <RainbowDragon> then this move must be terribly difficult to
make
[17:22] <Bynw> i have just found out why i havent been bothered by the
kittens in the last 20 minutes or so ...
[17:22] <KK> Yes and no. We're ready for the next adventure, and that
includes downsizing. Besides, Holybrooke needs a family--which it will
get.
[17:22] <KK> The actual packing up and moving, though, is a bitch.
[17:22] <Bynw> they have been captured by sunlight beams in the bedroom
[17:23] <Shiral> No matter where you move, Packing is always a pain
[17:23] <KK> And I'll miss my kitties while we're in transition.
[17:23] <Mistyck> yep...I swore I wouldn't move once I got this house
[17:23] <Shiral> I think of moving with such loathing that I've been in
this apartment for nearly 17 years
[17:23] <KK> My cats love to chase sunlight reflected off the crystal
of my watch. Nicholas goes absolutely crazy.
[17:24] <Shiral> Nina loves that game too, KK
[17:24] <KK> Good Lord, don't you own it by now, Shiral?
[17:24] <Shiral> At least, with MY watch she does <G>
[17:24] <Shiral> Nope
[17:24] <Bynw> they should let you own it by now after being there that
fraking long
[17:24] <jewahe> That's the problem with renting...you pay out
continuously and never get anything back.
[17:24] <Shiral> I'm getting sick of the place, very noisy these days
[17:25] <Mistyck> Mika likes to play "stair troll" and make people stop
and pay toll...Evaine just sits in the front window
[17:25] <Shiral> But the thought of packing up 17 years of gunk strikes
terror in my heart
[17:25] <jewahe> But it is the only solution for many people, with all
the restrictions and red tape involved in buying a place.
[17:25] <Mistyck> I can relate to that, Shiral...in 8 years I've
collected so much junk, I can understand how you feel
[17:25] <KK> We've been culling and throwing out and recycling for
about 2 years now, in anticipation of this day.
[17:25] <jewahe> Purge...purge...purge
[17:26] <Shiral> Yeah.. I know
[17:26] <Shiral> I should purge
[17:26] <Shiral> The task just seems enormous
[17:26] <KK> It's looking far less daunting tham we feared, now that
we've got everything pretty much in the corridor and down in the great
hall. Packing thebooks will be the big chore.
[17:26] <Mistyck> I guess we both need to do it "15 minutes at a time"
Shiral :)
[17:26] <jewahe> I'm not a pack rat, anyway...I tend to get rid of
things along the way if I find I don't use it...I rarely keep stuff
"just in case".
[17:26] <KK> Just do a little very day, and it adds up. See FlyLady.
[17:26] <jewahe> But still, it is amazing what you do accumulate over
time.
[17:27] <KK> Oh, yes. And the bigger the space you have, the more
<stuff> you accumulate.
[17:27] <Mistyck> yeppers
[17:27] <Shiral> It just feels a little like moving the Haldanes out of
Rhemuth Castle
[17:28] * Shiral makes a tiny move to sound topical. =o)
[17:28] <jewahe> That's going to be my next major purge...the only
thing I horde is books...and I'm working up the courage to purge it
all.
[17:28] <KK> Anyway, I'd better scoot. The movers will be here around
9 AM, and we've got stuff to do before they arrive--and need to get
some sleep, too.
[17:28] <jewahe> well, not all of it.
[17:28] <Shiral> sleep well, kk
[17:28] <Shiral> Contact us when possible
[17:28] <jewahe> have a good night...
[17:28] <KK> I've even been culling books. Just can't keep all the
fiction, especially stuff that I'm really not likely to read again.
[17:28] <Dov> thanks for coming by, KK
[17:29] <Mistyck> good night Katherine, sleep well and good luck in the
househunting and moving
[17:29] <Dov> stay well
[17:29] <Shiral> On the eve of the great MOving Adventure
[17:29] <KK> I'll keep you posted.
[17:29] <RainbowDragon> Please keep in touch in the coming weeks, KK
[17:29] <Bynw> see you when you are able to come back online :-)
[17:29] <Shiral> Enjoy your Rhein Cruise
[17:29] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in
a shower of green sparkles.
[17:29] <Shiral> She'll have to set up a new portal in the new place
[17:30] * KK Quit
[17:30] * KK has left IRC
