Forgotten Shadows / Re: FS Game System and Rules
Last post by Bynw - May 12, 2024, 04:01:18 PM

It is a known fact that some Deryni powers are fatiguing, some more than others. So as a rule of thumb certain Deryni powers will be Tiring while others are exhausting. If they are not listed as such they still could be under some circumstances. This list is not complete.

Fatigue-Banishing is Tiring
Healing is Tiring
Healing anything other than physical damage is Exhausting
Mind Control is Tiring as is resisting it
Memory Alteration is Tiring
Extensive Memory Alteration is Exhausting
Death Reading is Exhausting
Memory Assumption is Tiring and Integrating those memories is Exhausting
Forcing down Shields is Tiring as is resisting the same
Truth-Saying is Tiring as is resisting it

When a characters does something that is Tiring the player makes a standard Save Test. A failure indicates that the character is now Tired and all their rolls are Hard (6 only). If another Tiring Save Test is failed the character automatically becomes Exhausted.
A Tired character needs to rest for 3 hours to become normal again.

When a character does something that is Exhausting the player makes a Save Test at Disadvantage. A success may make the character automatically Tired depending on the circumstances. A failure indicates that the character is now Exhausted and all their rolls are at Disadvantage. If another Tiring or Exhausting Save Test is failed the character will immediately pass out from the attempt and not awaken for at least 6 hours.

Oh, I sure hope so! I figure if Bynw has some interesting characters to play with, he'll be less inclined to just kill us all. ;)

Hopefully, Airich won't die in their first chance encounter on the road with some randomly rolled bandit. :D

That's a  discouraging outcome it will be interesting to see what changes might occur in the course of the game. Would love to know what inspired the turn to human.

This isn't the outcome, it's the beginning. Now we get to discover what happens next; I'm just as in the dark about how things are going to shake out as you are. :)

Gotta admit: I hope he doesn't join the mean priests, and I hope Feyd doesn't bump him off for possibly interfering in Feyd's plans.

Perhaps, nevertheless I see a good story coming from Airich, even if we can not get past is stubbornness for a long while.

Player Name:
Nezz

Character Name:
Airich Michael O'Flynn
aka Eric Banner

Heritage:
Deryni

Heritage Trait:
Power

Additional Traits:
  • Additional Weapon Mastery
  • Spell Trained
  • Sword Spell

Hit Points: 6

Movement: 25 feet

Grit: 3

Weapon Proficiency:
Light Melee

Weapon Mastery:
Longsword (Hand-and-a-half sword)
Dagger

Family Trade:
Nobility/Horse breeders

Belief:
Deryni are stuck-up, arrogant snobs who look upon Humans as children or pets, rather than equals.

Description:
Airich O'Flynn is the youngest of six living children of Earl Sean and Countess Celeste O'Flynn of Derry. A handsome young knight of 21 with blue eyes and straight light-brown hair (must be those Udaut genes) kept long and pulled back. About 5'10" and 175 lbs, he's not exactly what you'd call physically imposing, but he doesn't look like a pushover, either.

He generally dresses as is typical of a knight: brown breeches, blue tunic, white belt, boots, leather jerkin, mail. In addition, he wears a cream-colored linen undertunic with an enchantment of protection. Helm, greaves, riding gloves.

Although a fully trained Deryni himself (on his mother's side), Airich has chosen to identify as a Human, and will generally not use his Deryni talents. Any Deryni who attempts Mind-speech with him will either be ignored or find Shields-up.

He's currently looking for Washburn Morgan with the hopes that Wash will be able to rid him of his Deryni "curse."

He doesn't actually hate Deryni (his freakin' family is Deryni), and certainly doesn't think anyone should be killed for being Deryni, but he thinks most of them could stand being knocked down a peg or two.

Gear/Equipment:

  • Longsword
  • Backup sword
  • Dagger
  • Several lengths of colorful cord, twine, and embroidery floss (several of which are knotted into his hair)
  • Silver Camber medallion on a silver chain
  • Handkerchief enchanted to promote natural (non-magical) healing
  • Standard kit: Bedroll, Flint&Steel, Belt pouch, Rucksack, Lantern, Waterskin (full), Oil, 3 pints, Rope (50'), Rations (7 days), Torch, Cloak
  • Gold coins (10)
  • Horse of the finest breeding stock (do I need to work out the details?)

History:
Airich is the baby of his family. His parents married and then promptly had five children in seven years. The next eleven years consisted of several miscarriages, stillbirths, and babies succumbing to childhood illnesses, so Airich was considered a special blessing, and perhaps babied more than the other children.

He was raised as could be considered typical of other noble children, although he was not fostered out to another family. He received training as page, squire, and knight under the tutelage of his father and oldest brother, and additional training in the Deryni arts from his mother (who studied in Andelon) as well as classes at the schola.

Four years ago, he suddenly refused any further Deryni training and insisted that if a half-Deryni could be considered a full Deryni, then a half-Human could be considered a full Human. He's never spoken of why he underwent this change of heart or why he's a bit standoffish with most of his family.

Resistance: Your powers don't work on me boy!
You can resist against the Powers of Deryni influence and protect your thoughts against intrusion. Anytime a Deryni targets you with their powers you get a Save Test at Disadvantage. If you succeed the power does not work on you. Only a Human can have this Trait.
