Hurricane Sandy
« on: October 30, 2012, 05:05:13 PM »
Hey, all.

Here's a place for those in the path of Hurricane Sandy to check in, commiserate, whatever.

Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers.  Living in Florida, I've been through a hurricane or two, and I know storm inconveniences can really suck.

If you live on the Eastern Seaboard from NC on up, let us know how you're doing if you can!

*hugs*

We've gotten a lot of snow and cold rain, and some high winds.

Glad you were able to check in, Elkhound.  Hopefully silence from our other northeastern members simply means power is out or they're too busy to log in, and not anything worse.  This is the first time I can remember seeing a hurricane and a cold front hit at the same time!

Glad to see you, Elkhound.

It may very well be that people don't have power and/or have more urgent things on their minds than checking in here, but I wanted to make a space for it anyway.

We had high winds and brief power outages up here, though several people I work with had downed trees and were still without power yesterday morning.  We got off much lighter than southern Ontario.

We (including all of my sister's animals) made it through unscathed - until yesterday, when my husband was hit head on in our new car, and yes - it is totaled. What else can happen at this point?

Oh, no!   :(  Well, at least it was just the new car that was totaled and not your husband!

Yikes!  It sounds like you and DH could use a vacation; one that does not involve driving anywhere.  DH is OK, I trust?

Lots of people here are still without power, but I didn't loose it.  Zane & are OK; the cold has made for more snuggle time.

Jeez.  Y'all can't catch a break here lately with cars.

I hope your husband is okay, though.

DH is badly bruised, but alive - thanks to the seatbelt and airbags. The idiot that hit him was on the bloody phone, and ran a red light. DH had nowhere to go, but into the side of her car. She still had the phone in her hand when he got out of the car to check on her. She went to the ER, since she was also (stupidly) without a seatbelt.

The storm uprooted a tree planted in 1909 (for the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth) in New Haven, CT.  People who were looking at it found a skeleton in the roots.  Police think that the skeleton may have been there since Colonial times.

My only piece of advice is,  stay inside during electrical storms and don't play under the Anvil tree!   I'm so sorry about the new car! Two bad car accidents in two weeks is really too much.   But glad your husband wasn't hurt--head-on collisions are the most dangerous.

Have you considered becoming Amish?  Driving a horse and buggy  might be a lot safer, just now.

Or a bicycle.

Most of my DeMolays are also CAP cadets, and have been called up by FEMA for recovery work.

Oh no!   How many mirrors have you and DH broken for bad luck, did you say?  Anyway, so glad DH is OK - cars can be replaced, DH can't.   Hope the cops throw the book at Idiot Woman.
