Keep me in your thoughts & prayers this weekend!
« on: July 17, 2012, 09:07:47 PM »
It is time for West Virginia DeMolay http://wvdemolay.com's annual Conclave.  As Chapter Dad to Capitol Chapter, I have to go.  ('Have to' implies, perhaps that I don't want to---which is not really the case.)  Not only will I be spending a weekend in a college dorm with about 75 young men between 12 & 21, but the dorm we have has NO AIR CONDITIONING.

Thursday through Sunday---every kind of sport and game you can imagine; ritual and business meetings; a dance with the Rainbow Girls (our sister organization); a chapel service where I will play the largest pipe organ in WV (half of which is inoperable).

They're all nice boys, really; it isn't as though they're a bunch of J.D.s or anything like that.  But in one of his poems, the late, great John Ciardi spoke of a monster called the Shreek, which he described as 'as loud as a boy and a half' ---and he knew what he was talking about.

Good luck and have fun!
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

Have fun, bring a fan, and if you're not back in a few days, we'll call for the shiral crystals and Deryni search parties.  Or perhaps Healers, if required.  ;D

Ah, that brings back memories. I was a member of Job's Daughters for many  moons, and remember some of those days quite fondly. We always had our convention in Ocean City, and there were always many of the DeMolay around. Have a great time!  ;D

Have fun, Elkhound!  We'll try a weather working to send a cool breeze or two your way.  :)

We don't have Job's Daughters here in WV; just Rainbow.

Are you in the OES now?

No, I am afraid not. I work too many long hours for much outside activities. Most of my time outside of work is spent either as an EMS volunteer, or helping my sister with my niece's activities in Girl Scouts and equestrian events.  :)

It is damp and cool; quite nice, actually.  Not beastly hot as it usually is.  So far only one injury (a boy slipped on the grass playing lacrosse and hurt his knee; not seriously, though.)

All went well.  Another boy sprained his ankle.  No other injuries.  No fights.  No sulks. No tears.
