Is anyone here familiar with this short story that was released in 2001?  According to Wikipedia, this story took place in 1089.  Only 300 copies were ever made.
We will never forget the events of 9-11!!  USA!! USA!!

IIRC, this was King Brion's Mearan campaign from the Mearan point of view.  I would love to read it someday, but I don't think copies are generally available.
From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night...good Lord deliver us!

I have a copy. Unfortunately, it is in storage right now. :-(

It is indeed the story of King Brion's Mearan "adventure" in December 1106 told from the Mearan point of view. Princess Caitrin is the main protagonist. It did not end well. ;-)

I also have a copy of this story. All 300 copies are signed.

Is there any plans to reissue this book?  I have looked around to buy it and have come up with none for sale

Where rest, at length,
the lord and slave,
They'll wondering ask, how hands so vile,
Could conquer hearts so brave?"

Not that I've heard of.  I would imagine buying a copy would require a remarkable expenditure, since there were only 300 copies made and they're all signed by KK.

Sure would be nice if she'd issue it (even in e-book format), though; I'd love to read it myself.  :D
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

I'll let you know that it is a good read. But it would be nice if it made publication in another format so more people could enjoy it.

By the by, Venture in Vain is not book length. It is short - a short story or a novella, as I recall. (My copy is in storage, alas!) I too think that it would make a fabulous e-book! :-D

Jerusha

I would love to read Venture in Vain.  Sigh....

It's really a short story. Don't remember exact page count, but it's under 50, I believe.
You can have a sound mind in a healthy body--Or you can be a nanonovelist!

Kareina

Way under 50 pages. My copy isn't in storage, so I got it off the shelf. A grand total of 16 pages, including title, copyright, and signature pages, but, as one might expect, a well done bit of story nonetheless, though it is a tragedy.  I will post a list of characters below, skip it if you consider that much info to be a "spoiler".

Anyone who wants to read my copy is welcome to come visit me in Sweden. :-P

Characters, listed in order of first mention:

Pardiac
Francis Delany
Caitrin Quinnell
Robbard Kincaid (cousin to Caitrin)
Onora Quinnell

Named men-at-arms:
Derek
Dickon Smithson
~7 un-named men-at-arms
Morain ap Lewys

& his grandson, two-year old Judhael

People not present, but mentioned either by the narrator or the characters:

I would love to come to Sweden if I ever get the chance.

I'm now wondering what the two year old Judhael might have witnessed and how much that subconsciously affected his subsequent behaviour.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Oh an excuse to visit Sweden. It is on my bucket list. ***Wishing***
Thank you Kareina

Welcome to the forum, Kareina!  And congratulations on owning the one canonical Deryni story I haven't managed to add to my collection.  *wistful sigh*
