[19:06] <Alkari> No,just a one piece
[19:06] <jemler> sounds like a Hawaiian blind date!
[19:06] <Alkari> Hi KK.  Happy Easter.
[19:06] <jemler> hi KK
[19:06] <Evie> Hi, KK!
[19:06] <Annie> hi KK
[19:06] <Evie> Christus resurrexit!
[19:06] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello KK.
[19:07] <Evie> Happy Easter
[19:07] <Evie> Pass the chocolate
[19:07] <Alkari> Nice to see you.   Have you overdosed on chocolate yet?
[19:07] <jemler> A woman overdose on chocolate? Will wonders never cease?!
[19:08] <Evie> I love chocolate, but actually prefer small doses at a time, jemler
[19:08] <jemler> like a five-pound bag of M&Ms?
[19:08] * the_Bee has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[19:08] <Evie> My favorite chocolate bar can last me a full day or two.  I savor it one small piece at a time
[19:08] <jemler> hi bee
[19:08] * Evie says hello and offers you a goblet of Fianna wine
[19:08] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello Bee
[19:09] <the_Bee> hi jemler and all.  Happy Easter
[19:09] <Annie> hi Bee
[19:09] <KK> Hello, Peeps.  No, I haven't overdosed on chocolate--haven't had any yet--but we did take the dogs for a walk on Main Street, and got yummy ice cream.  Us, not the dogs.  It's too expensive for dogs; almost too expensive for humans.  But very Good!
[19:09] <Evie> Yum!  What flavor?
[19:09] <KK> Almond and maple.
[19:10] <Evie> Ooh, those do sound good!
[19:10] <Alkari> Yum
[19:10] <jemler> butter pecan, or cookies n cream
[19:10] <Evie> My dad loves butter pecan
[19:10] <Alkari> Hokey pokey
[19:10] <the_Bee> I don't dare let ice cream into my home: I can polish off a carton in twodays.
[19:10] <Alkari> or very rich chocolate
[19:11] <Evie> I'm partial to the fudgy chocolate flavors, or coffee, or some combination of those, or a cherry chocolate one that Publix has
[19:11] <Alkari> LOL.   I have turned to the lower fat frozen yoghurt, which I discovered is very yummy
[19:11] <Evie> yes, some of the frozen yoghurts are quite good
[19:11] <Alkari> Wild berries, or mango
[19:11] <the_Bee> mint and chocolate or chocolate and peanut butter.
[19:12] <Evie> chocolate mint chip is good too
[19:12] <Evie> How is Alaric this week, KK?
[19:12] <Alkari> creamy coconut is nice - in a double cone with chocolate or a fruit flavour
[19:12] <jemler> they now have a chocolate mint klondike bar
[19:12] <the_Bee> In Boston Hood has a flavor called "Green Monster Mint" in honor of the wall at Fenway Park.
[19:13] <Alkari> EVie has just been casting Alaric in the future movie!!
[19:13] <Evie> actually, Annie did
[19:13] <Alkari> Ah yes.
[19:13] <KK> Chocolate chip is the nosh of choice for me.  Dark chocolate. I have no use at all for milk chocolate, or for M&M's.  (But they do make a dark chocolate M&M now, I understand.
[19:13] <Evie> I just agreed I could live with the choice if you could, and if so, we'd have achieved the miracle of agreeing on a single Alaric without fisticuffs. ;-)
[19:13] <Alkari> ROFL
[19:14] <KK> So, who did you cast?
[19:14] <Alkari> As long as KK gets the poor lad through childhood!
[19:14] <Evie> Yes, they do.  And I'm partial to the dark side of the chocolate Force too
[19:14] <the_Bee> so who's your candidate?
[19:14] <Evie> Oh gracious...what's his name, Annie?
[19:14] <Annie> huh?
[19:14] <Annie> um
[19:14] <Annie> Patrick someone, hang on
[19:14] <Evie> Patrick something
[19:14] <Evie> LOL
[19:14] <Alkari> http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sugexp=gsish&pq=patrick+wilson+imdb&xhr=t&q=patrick+wilson&cp=14&biw=940&bih=640&bs=1&wrapid=tljp130367357692820&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi
[19:14] <Alkari> Patrick WIlson
[19:15] <Alkari> Needs to be blonded.
[19:15] <Annie> yeah, he was in... um
[19:15] <Alkari> Though I still want to un-age David Wenham
[19:15] <Annie> Morning Glory
[19:15] <Evie> easily enough done, though.  Blonding, not unaging DW.
[19:15] <Annie> sorry - jetlag kicking in big style
[19:15] <Alkari> Have you got anyone in mind, KK?
[19:15] <Annie> thinking through treacle at the moment
[19:15] <KK> Nope.
[19:15] <Evie> Annie just got back from her Orlando vacation
[19:15] <Alkari> And how is young Alaric in the book?
[19:16] <KK> 14.  And they've made him 16 in the script.
[19:16] <KK> Ah, in the current book?  He's nearly 8.
[19:16] <the_Bee> I thought Kelson was 16, not Alaric
[19:16] <Evie> LOL!  I was about to ask about CM3 having a script already!
[19:17] <Alkari> Has he managed to meet Brion yet, or just reached Court?
[19:17] <BalanceTheEnergies> Me too.
[19:17] <Annie> I am working on 2 hours sleep at the moment, so thought processes are less sharp than they normally are
[19:17] <KK> Ah, book--and Alaric.  Too fast a shift change there.  In the current book, Alaric is nearly 8.
[19:19] <Evie> When you describe Dhugal's hair as "copper-bronze," are you picturing it darker or lighter than my son's hair here?   http://www.flickr.com/photos/9573389@N08/sets/72157626444852829/with/5651380138/
[19:20] <Alkari> It must have been hard for him - Kenneth dying and then almost straight off to court
[19:20] <Evie> Because I've always tended to think of  it as a more "red with lots of brown shadows" rather than "red with lots of bright orange highlights"
[19:21] <Evie> because of the "bronze" part of the description
[19:21] <KK> This past week, he's been learning ciphering from his Aunt Delphine, and how to feed chickens.  And he's decided that it isn't reallly sporting to use his powers on animals that he needs to eat.  As he tells some hens, "You can't help it that you taste good.  Besides, some of you get to lay eggs.  I like eggs."
[19:21] <Alkari> rofl
[19:21] <Evie> LOL
[19:22] <Alkari> Does he take that attitude later when he has to hunt deer and such as squire, etc?
[19:22] <Evie> My cousins each had a "pet chicken" when my grandparents had a farm.  My younger cousin's chick grew up to be a mean rooster. One day the rooster ended up on the table, and after the meal was over, my cousin declared he liked his chicken much better that way.
[19:23] <Alkari> My aunt would never let her hubby slaughter the poddy lambs she hand-raised
[19:23] <the_Bee> How does this sweet child become the toughened cynic we first met in Deryni Rising?
[19:23] <Alkari> LOL @ Bee
[19:23] <Evie> Life happens to him.
[19:23] <Annie> he gets hated on by a lot of people?
[19:23] <Alkari> If people are always out to kill you, I guess you toughen up
[19:23] <BalanceTheEnergies> Life is hard, especially when people hate you. I'm sure he learns that soon enough.
[19:23] <the_Bee> I guess so!
[19:23] <jemler> He sees Jorian de Courcy burned at the stake
[19:23] <Evie> But hey, at least Tusken Raiders didn't kill his mama and turn him to the Dark Side
[19:23] <KK> He learns that some animals have to be eaten, and he always appreciates them when he has to kill them.  But animals are innocent, unlike some people, who need killing.
[19:24] <Alkari> I'm glad you have him as someone who likes animals!
[19:24] <Evie> Reminds me of the opening lines to Julie Garwood's "The Bride."  "They said he killed his first wife. Papa said maybe she needed killing."
[19:25] <jemler> I like animals too. they're delicious!
[19:25] <Alkari>  @ jemler
[19:25] <Evie> which is about all I remember about that book anymore, aside from it was set in Scotland, and the heroine was a ditz. ;-)
[19:25] <KK> Absolutely.  And lately, he's learned not to resent the fact that his brindle hound, given him by the king when he was 4, has now attached itself to Bronwyn.  He and either Kenneth or Llion have a conversation about that.
[19:26] <Alkari> Well, that would be sensible - as a page and squire, he'd move around too much to have a dog at present
[19:26] <the_Bee> I remember Bronwyn had a way with animals and birds.
[19:26] <Alkari> And he adores his sister.
[19:27] <KK> Kenneth wasn't going to drag the dog back and forth to Rhemuth--and Bronwyn needed the hound to protect her when the men area away from Morganhall.
[19:27] <Alkari> ALaric would feel good that his dog was protecting her, then.
[19:28] <KK> I also have a scene where Bronwyn and Clarice, her cousin, are playing with a clutch of stable kittens, and Alaric is napping under a nearby tree with the mother cat curled up on his chest.
[19:28] <the_Bee> Awwwww!
[19:28] <Alkari> Yay @ cat lover Alaric.
[19:28] <Evie>
[19:29] <Alkari> I can see him having various animals back in Coroth for his own kids
[19:29] <the_Bee> Clarice is whose daughter?
[19:29] <KK> Yep.
[19:29] <Alkari> and him, of course!
[19:29] <KK> Granddaughter of Claara, Kenneth's younger sister.
[19:29] <the_Bee> Ah.
[19:30] <Alkari> KK, where exactly IS the manor of Morganhall?
[19:32] <KK> North of Rhemuth about a day's ride.
[19:32] <Alkari> Thanks - I knew it was about a day's ride away, but not exactly "where"
[19:32] <KK> It's off a direct line from Rhemuth to Culdi, and also off the direct line from Rhemuth to Arc-en-Ciel.
[19:33] <Evie> I can see why Jared would be glad to have Vera visiting there rather than being in faraway Cassan when he has to be in Rhemuth
[19:33] * derynifanatic64 has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[19:33] <Alkari> By KKB, who is living there?
[19:33] <Evie> Hi DF
[19:33] <the_Bee> Hi DF
[19:33] <Alkari> Hello DF
[19:33] <derynifanatic64> happy easter, all
[19:33] <jemler> hi df
[19:33] <Alkari> Same to you.
[19:34] <KK> Don't know, Alkari.  It was supposed to be Bronwyn's dowry, but I imagine it will go to one of Morgan's caughters now, as her dowry.
[19:34] <Evie> Happy Easter
[19:34] <KK> Happy Easter.
[19:34] <KK> daughters
[19:34] <Annie> hi df
[19:34] <derynifanatic64> 7how was your holiday
[19:34] <KK> Or it might go to a younger son, to keep it in the Morgan line.
[19:35] <Evie> We figured that meant daughters, and not one of the many women trying to catch Morgan. ;-)
[19:35] <Alkari> So they DO get to have more sons?!
[19:35] <Alkari> The "heir and at least one spare"
[19:35] <Annie> uh oh, here goes Alkari with her 56 Morgan kids again
[19:35] <Evie> you didn't think the world ends in 1130, did you, Alkari? ;-)
[19:35] <KK> Yep.
[19:35] <Alkari> No, only 20!!
[19:36] <BalanceTheEnergies> at least to propigate the healing talent.
[19:36] <Alkari> Reading some of those medieval families, or evenearlier this century - 12 - 16 kids!!
[19:36] <Annie> two of the families in my family tree had 16
[19:36] <Evie> my mother was the baby of 13
[19:36] <Annie> and of each of those 16, only 8 made it past 5 years old
[19:36] <BalanceTheEnergies> Insurance...so many things can kill.
[19:36] <Annie> all single pregnancies to boot
[19:37] <jemler> my father was on e of 19!
[19:37] <Alkari> Yet many families had 10+ kids who did survive
[19:37] <Evie> Yes, all of my mother's siblings survived to adulthood
[19:37] <Annie> these were in the 1800s IIRC
[19:38] <the_Bee> Family reunions must have been crowded, Evie.
[19:38] <Evie> though granted, she was technically child 10 from my granddad's second family.  He had three children from his first wife, then was widowed and married my grandmother
[19:38] <Alkari> Empress Maria Theresa had 16 kids, and used to even read the state papers whilke she was in early stages of labour!!
[19:38] <Evie> I met 90 or so first cousins the one time I went to a family gathering to welcome my mom home
[19:39] <Annie> my great grandfather had 2 marriages, and in each family he had a son John and a daughter Marjory Margaret - confusing or what?
[19:39] <Evie> that is, the reunion was to honor my mom returning home to the Philippines.  I didn't go to one to welcome my mother home.
[19:39] <derynifanatic64> 7my dad had 27 first cousins
[19:39] <jemler> I had a neighbor who was married twice, two women named Violet!
[19:40] <Alkari> v ery confusing
[19:40] <Evie> well, at least he didn't have to worry about calling his second wife by the wrong name.
[19:40] <KK> That's something you can't really do in fiction, because it's too confusing for the reader.  That's why I've repeated very few names, at least among main characters and nobility.
[19:40] <Alkari> Yes.  They'd give family names as second names, I assume
[19:41] <Alkari> I always loved the fact that you gave Kelrioc
[19:41] <BalanceTheEnergies> Or do a different second name, like the Bachs.
[19:41] <Annie> one family was determined to have an Alexander, obviously, since they had two Alexanders die young.  The third (Alexander James) broke the jinx and made it through childhood
[19:41] <Alkari> Kelric's middle name as "Alain"
[19:41] <KK> In Scott's branch of the MacMillan family, it was customary to name the eldest son of each generation George, and the second one John.
[19:41] <BalanceTheEnergies> Yeah, inside joke for the parents.
[19:41] <jemler> In my family we had John M. Emler (me) John A. Emler Sr, John A. Emler Jr, John Brandle Sr and John Brandle Jr.. When a phone call for John came in, it was like eeny-meeny-miney-mo!
[19:42] <Alkari> very confusing
[19:42] <Alkari> Yes @ inside joke BTE.  Always makes me smile.
[19:42] <Annie> a lot of my families follow the Highland naming convention, which makes finding ancestors a little easier
[19:43] <derynifanatic64> 7if i answer the phone, people call me by my dad's name, because over the phone, we sound the same
[19:43] <the_Bee> We once had a neighbor wit the same first and last name as my father.  We got a lot of wrong-number calls for the other Robert Allen.
[19:43] <the_Bee> Once I nearly paid the other guy's credi-card bill.
[19:43] <Annie> first son is named for paternal grandfather, second for maternal grandfather, third for father, some to the extent that if paternal and maternal grandfathers have same name, so do first AND second sons
[19:43] <Evie> ack!
[19:43] <Alkari> Eeek.!
[19:44] <Evie> "This is my son John and my second son John..."
[19:44] <Alkari> lol
[19:44] <Annie> then first daughter named for maternal grandmother, second for paternal grandmother, third for mother
[19:44] <Evie> "Oh, and my third son John, named after his dad."
[19:44] <derynifanatic64> 7my dad had a cousin with the same name as his, this one died as a child, and people call my grandmother because they thought my dad had died
[19:44] <the_Bee> John Major and John Minor?
[19:44] <Alkari> John Tertius
[19:44] <Evie> and if you had a seventh, what then?
[19:44] <Alkari> John Sextus
[19:45] <the_Bee> or Septimus
[19:45] <Alkari> Lack of imagination!!
[19:45] <Annie> and where my family were from, the daughters often got the surname of their maternal grandmother as a middle name, so my mother's middle name was Morrison, for her maternal grandmother
[19:45] <Alkari> ELizabeth is a family name for many generations back on both sides of my family, either as first or middle name
[19:46] <the_Bee> My parents intentionally gave me a unique name, not for any relative.
[19:46] <Annie> we have lots of Catherines and variants. I have Catriona as middle name and DD is Kathryn
[19:47] <Evie> Catriona pronounced the right way. ;-)
[19:48] <the_Bee> Ca-Tree-o-na or Cat-ri-O-na?
[19:48] <KK> Like the huuricne?
[19:48] <KK> hurricane
[19:48] <Annie> hmmm, not really either, Bee
[19:48] <Alkari> I've always liked Katherine / Kathryn as names.   With a C makes me think of Lady Catherine de Burgh
[19:48] <Annie> where my folks are from it's more Cat-REE-uh-na
[19:48] <KK> Or the incipient future Queen of England, after Friday.
[19:49] <Annie> the o is barely sounded
[19:49] <Alkari> LOL.  Are you going to watch it all. KK?   I am trying to escape it
[19:49] <Evie> yes, what time is the wedding starting?  Trying to decide if I'll be able to stay up to watch it
[19:49] <KK> I will be up at about 4:30.  Don't want to miss a second!
[19:49] <Annie> DD was nearly Briony, but we went for Kathryn instead.  I could imagine the teenage strops "So you named me for someone from a BOOK???"
[19:50] <the_Bee> Noon in England is early morning in the USA.
[19:50] <Annie> sorry KK, I just wasn't brave enough to go there!
[19:50] <Evie> "Here, DD, if you want to see who you were named for, read this! It's better than that Twilight rubbish...." ;-)
[19:50] <KK> Actual wedding starts at 0600 Eastern time, which is 1100 in London.
[19:50] <Alkari> It's Friday evening our time.
[19:51] <Alkari> Prime time TV, so it willbe wall to wall
[19:51] <Evie> OK, 5 Central then.  Do-able.
[19:51] <KK> Yep, it'll be hard to escape.
[19:51] <Evie> Now, do I love anyone enough to wake up that early, though?  That's the problem.  ;-)
[19:51] <Alkari> I watch the procession to see the horses, and then try to turn off.  I think there is a football game
[19:51] <BalanceTheEnergies> Local English pub is having a Wills 7 Kate costume contest.
[19:51] <jemler> Let's hope Will is smarter than Chuck. Dad had a good thing going and screwed it up!
[19:52] <the_Bee> I think they'll have a better chance than Chaarles and Diana.  At least William isn't in love with another woman
[19:52] <Alkari> My favourite royal is Anne
[19:52] <Annie> I think there will be more Americans watching than Brits - most of us are planning to avoid it
[19:52] <the_Bee> I don't know much about Anne.
[19:52] <jemler> my favorite royal is a flush!
[19:52] <Alkari> Hardest working of them all, and once threatened to ride over the top of a journalist!!
[19:52] <derynifanatic64> 7:D
[19:52] <KK> I was at a dinner in London where she was the GOH, and spoke.  Very good speaker, and she's one of the hardest working royals of all.
[19:53] <Alkari> Yes, KK.   Appartently she was once asked why she didn't get out and socialise / kiss babies etc llike Di - she told the rpeorter that she didn't DO kissing other people's kids
[19:53] <Alkari> Sensible woman!!!
[19:54] <the_Bee> She named her daughter Zara?
[19:55] <Alkari> Yes.  Son is Peter
[19:55] <KK> I think that's a cool name!
[19:55] <BalanceTheEnergies> I also like that younger cousin who does the furniture, whose name i cannot recall...
[19:55] <the_Bee> Who's her husband?
[19:55] <Alkari> Timothy Lawrence.  I think he is ranked Admiral by now.
[19:55] <KK> Yes.
[19:55] <Alkari> She managed to get divorced from Mark Philips without any scandal, and married Tim Lawrence
[19:56] <Alkari> And Mark Philips still trains daughter Zara in equestrian stuff
[19:56] <Annie> foggy
[19:56] <Alkari> LOL
[19:57] <Annie> story is that Mark Phillips was known as "Fog" by the royal family
[19:57] <Alkari> Oh yes.
[19:57] <derynifanatic64> 7:s
[19:57] <Annie> because he was thick and wet, df
[19:58] <Alkari> Timothy Laurence is a Vice Admiral now, according to Google
[19:59] <Annie> allegedly, I should say, in case anyone should happen across this on Google
[19:59] <Alkari> LOL
[19:59] <Evie>
[20:01] <Evie> it's only a problem if "Foggy" is doing a Google search and runs across the chat log, Annie. ;-)
[20:01] <Alkari> Well, we can see them all if we want to watch the who's who of guests arriving at the wedding.  Not sure if Foggy got invited ....
[20:01] <Annie> lol
[20:01] <the_Bee> Andrew's Ex didn't
[20:01] <Alkari> Well, can't blame them for not inviting her!!
[20:02] <Alkari> his kids will be there I assume though
[20:04] <Alkari> KK, on a totally diffferent topic - and back to the books ...
[20:04] <KK> Beatrice & Eugenie will be there.
[20:04] <Annie> well they are William's cousins and something and something+1 in line to the throne, so I guess so
[20:04] <KK> Go, Alkari.
[20:04] <Alkari> After your story of "The Green Tower", what happened to all Lewys ap Norfal's papers?   Did Duke Stiofan keep them?
[20:05] <the_Bee> Didn't the UK change the law of succession to make the oldest child Heir Apparent regardless of gender?
[20:05] <KK> I'd guess that the CC "took them into custody."
[20:05] <KK> Not yet, Bee.
[20:05] <Alkari> Ah - I was wondering, because Stiofan was a good friend
[20:06] <Alkari> Andbeing Deryni, I wondered if any of the papers might have ended up in Coroth's library or a locked room
[20:06] <Annie> no, not yet - they have talked about it for ages though, Bee
[20:06] <Annie> so I guess they are 5 and 6
[20:07] <KK> That sounds about right.
[20:08] <Alkari> I've been reading a book about a medieval knight / traveller, Sir JohnMandeville, and stuff about the monastery at St Catherine's in Sinai, and all the ancient texts that were dicovered there
[20:08] <the_Bee> Charles, William, Harry, Andrew, his son, his daughter
[20:09] <KK> Andrew's daughters--he has no son.  Yike, it's after 8.  Gotta go feed the
[20:09] <Evie> We've skipped Edward, haven't we?
[20:09] <Alkari> Mustn't lose Edward!!
[20:09] <the_Bee> Yes we have.  He's after Andrew but before Anne.
[20:09] <KK> Edward is after Andrew.  And his son, though younger, takes precedence over his daughter who was first-born.
[20:10] <Annie> no, it goes down the tree before it goes across it
[20:10] <the_Bee> So a change in the law would bump Anne up in line.
[20:11] <Alkari> so its Charles, William and Harry, then if neither William or Harry have sons, it goes to Andrew and then Edward
[20:11] <KK> After Andrew's 2 daughers comes Edard and hiw two kids, then Anne and her two children.

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
