Only one medieval British Cathedral was destroyed in WW2, which was Coventry. Interestingly the destruction was so bad because of the Victorians who had clamped the roof down securely with iron which prevented it from blowing off and so allowed the fire within to become an inferno.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
(Psalm 46 v1)

Quote from: revanne on November 27, 2024, 01:30:03 AMThere's a fair bit of medieval stuff hanging around where I live.

That is exactly what I was thinking, only now make most of the ruins still functional castles and cathedrals. They didn't all fall into nothing but stone works because they had wardings on the walls and rooflines. Especially during times of battle. So aircraft bombs of more recent times do not take out the older, more important buildings. and rooms like chapels and libraries would survive with the items intact, even if flames caught the rest of the building on fire. So I am imagining the influence of history would be even greater than in our world.

Good timing here. In my notes, I have a proposed scene where the interviewer is talking with the showrunner for the streaming series "Queen of Shadows", and she mentions offhand that the interview is in a garden of the Royal Northern Museum in Valoret-- and that so much of the old building and its stained glass had to be replaced after the Torenth War of the 1930s.
