[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:34 PM EST] Join KK has joined this channel.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:40 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> There is a toddler stuff pack that apparently has a little toddler playpen fence thing in it. I don't own it though.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:43 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> HEllo KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:45 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hi, KK!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:48 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> Hello KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:49 PM EST] <bynw> hi KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:51 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Hi KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:06:52 PM EST] <The_Bee> Hi KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:07:48 PM EST] <KK> Hello, all! Using a new chat link. And sorry about the no show last week. I'd had a Zoom meeting a couple of hours before, and flat forgot about you guys. Mea culpa!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:09 PM EST] <The_Bee> You're forgiven.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:17 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Zoom meeting will take you out. we understand
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:22 PM EST] <bynw> it happens :)
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:25 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> We wondered if maybe a friend had decided to treat you to dinner or something.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:40 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> We were ok, just hoping that you were having a good time. 🙂
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:08:58 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> I actually think I forgot about last week too. so my appoligies
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:09:30 PM EST] <KK> Alas, not last week. And I skipped a thing that I sort of wanted to go to this afternoon, but it was in Charlottesville at 5, and even if it only lasted an hour, I didnt think I could get back in time for you guys.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:09:32 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> I didn't forget, I just kept losing my internet connection driving over the mountians.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:09:51 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> I went to go see a new littler of Cocker spaniel puppies. and I think I may get one. they are addorable. but only 2 weeks old.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:08 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> We had a surprisingly lively chat last weekend despite everything, though.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:13 PM EST] <KK> Cocker spaniel puppies! Cute!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:29 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Ooooh, puppies, who can resist them
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:38 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> A fat chubby sable and white girl.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:45 PM EST] <KK> What about the Cavaliers?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:10:56 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> The cavaliers will adore her.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:11:24 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I can resist them. I like other people's dogs, and love my grandpuppy, but my schedule doesn't really allow for me to have a pet that depends on me being home at regular times to let them outside.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:11:25 PM EST] <KK> Awwww. What color are the puppies?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:11:47 PM EST] <The_Bee> How soon can she be separated from her mother?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:12:07 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> another 6 weeks, right?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:12:12 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> She had two buffs, and two sable and whites. So some time around early April
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:12:48 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Sable and Whites are not a regesterable show color. but they are soo pretty.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:12:53 PM EST] <KK> The girl it sounds like you've picked will fit right in with the others.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:13:20 PM EST] <KK> Are the show colors only one-color, buff or black?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:14:08 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> No the show colors are many but apparently sable which is redish/brown with black tips has not yet been recognized. It is a newer color.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:14:58 PM EST] <The_Bee> Our first family puppy was a cocker/spitz mix, the result of an illicit affair by a friend's cocker female
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:15:08 PM EST] <KK> Interesting. I'd always thought of cockers as black or brown.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:15:37 PM EST] <The_Bee> or blond.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:16:15 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Hi everyone!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:16:15 PM EST] <KK> Blond/tan/brown--in that range. But obviously there are other colors as well.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:16:17 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Yes and you can add buff and red as well, and then add white party color to any of those. I was ready where the first sable cocker was founded about 20 years ago. but ACK will not recognize them
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:16:44 PM EST] <KK> Why not?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:16:59 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> The AKC can be a bit rigid
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:17:21 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> And it must fit within the breed standard
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:17:37 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> No idea. but this little one is so cute. I will name her Lilacs at River's edge. Or Lila. Her sire is Jade's River.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:17:37 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> Hi Jerusha!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:03 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> hi Jerusha
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> When I had a Chihuahua years ago, for some reason he couldn't be AKC registered, but he was registered with something else. NKC, maybe?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:09 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Hello Jerusha
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:17 PM EST] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:17 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Or Lilicks? (Just kidding)
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:18:41 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> No, Lilicks would be a dachshund. They lick a LOT.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:19:12 PM EST] <KK> Why that name, Laurna?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:19:31 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> No Idea. it just came to me when I was looking at her.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:19:36 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I have a cousin named Lila. It's a family name on my grandmother's side.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:06 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> And my grandmother's middle name was Lilavae
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:14 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I would love a puppy, but it is not the right time yet
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:18 PM EST] <KK> Good enough reason.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:30 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> Lilavae? Interesting...
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:30 PM EST] <The_Bee> Are there lilacs growing at a river's edge where you live?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:35 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> I could not live without a passle of pups.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:53 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> I thought you had a passle
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:20:56 PM EST] <KK> Lilavae is an interesting name, and quite pretty.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:21:11 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Pronounced 'LIE-la-vay", IIRC.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:21:23 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> You get all the petting rights, Laurna!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:21:32 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> My mom had lilacs when she lived in the mountains. and If I ever got married my flowers would been Pionies and lilacs.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:21:55 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Love that Evie
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:22:21 PM EST] <The_Bee> We had a white lilac and a purple lilac in our back yard.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:22:30 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Lilavae could be an interesting damsel in a fanfic
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:22:40 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She could be
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:23:29 PM EST] <KK> Put her on your name list for possible characters.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:23:44 PM EST] <The_Bee> Do you know the origin of the name? I'm interested in that sort of thing.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:23:56 PM EST] <KK> Where does the name come from? Haven't heard it before.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:23:57 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My grandmother hated her first name, which was Myrtle, because she grew up hearing lots of "Myrtle wears a girdle" jokes. I'm not sure how she felt about her middle name, which she never used. (I only knew it because I asked her what the L. in her signature stood for.) But she made me promise not to name a daughter after her. 😂 She said nothing about fanfic characters though. 😄
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:24:06 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> "Hiding behind the thick lilac blossoms, she watched the knights ride by"
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:24:40 PM EST] <KK> So what name did she go by?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:25:22 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I have no idea, KK. Most of my grandmother's siblings had names that were fairly usual for the time--Lily, Irene, Joyce, Dalton, Clifford. But by the time my great-grandma got around to naming the baby, I think she ran out of names, because he was just T.L. No names, just initials. LOL!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:25:28 PM EST] <KK> Fortunately, she knew nothing of fanfic characters.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:25:31 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She went by Myrtle.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:25:56 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She lived long enough to see my earliest stories, but that was before I was writing fanfic, I think.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:26:33 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She was a horrible beta reader, because even if I wrote total crap, she would think it was marvelous. 😂
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:26:55 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> That was her job. 🙂
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:26:59 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> But I think she is who I got my "writing gene" from. She was a poet.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:27:17 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I still have all of her poetry in my keepsake chest.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:27:30 PM EST] <KK> Ah. My mother was a poet.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:28:11 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Ah than writing is a family trait.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:28:11 PM EST] <KK> I have all my mother's poetry. Really need to see about getting it published. She was quite good.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:28:34 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> That would be awesome, KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:28:37 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> It's how she dealt with life: happy or sad, relaxed or stressful, all the moods and memories of life ended up in her poems.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:00 PM EST] <KK> She even organized in chrrrrrrrrrrrron order and annotated it with what was going on in her life when she wrote it.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:04 PM EST] <The_Bee> I've tried to set some of my poetry to music.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:09 PM EST] <KK> chron order.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:37 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> chronilogical?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:47 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> In her final months, I typed up her poetry and had it bound into a book for her, with several copies made to give to friends and family. She was so thrilled.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:29:54 PM EST] <KK> Chronological.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:30:24 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> That is awesome, Evie
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:30:56 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Great thing to do
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:31:13 PM EST] <KK> It would make a wonder resource doc for someone teaching poetry. I need to broach the topic with the English department at Mary Baldwin or James Madison University.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:31:46 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> I think that is a wonderful idea Evie
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:31:51 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I need to do that again. I lost the original .doc file years ago, since it was on an old floppy disk and typed on a Windows 3.1 computer.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:32:50 PM EST] <KK> Mother had typed up all her stuff too, but I think the disks got tossed when I was purging her stuff from the cottage.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:32:51 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> But these days I have access to a scanner, so it wouldn't have to be completely retyped from scratch. (Actually, I'm pretty sure the folder I have is the printed copy of what I typed, so I wouldn't have to reconstruct anything from handwritten pages.)
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:33:20 PM EST] <KK> Yes, I have typed copy that could be scanned, too.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:33:31 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Thank goodness that you have that
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:33:48 PM EST] <KK> Yet another project for my Copious Spare Time.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:33:58 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> That exists? 😄
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:34:11 PM EST] <The_Bee> I hope we'll get to see both LBM's poetry and Evie's mom's.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:34:39 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My grandmother's. My mom is creative in different ways.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:34:51 PM EST] <KK> Fortunately, she'd made 2 sets of hard copy, so I sent one to my sister as soon as I located it.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:34:56 PM EST] <The_Bee> ok, grNDMOM'S
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:35:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Although my dad (son of my grandmother the poet) is also a decent writer.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:36:21 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My son ␝can␝ write well, he just rarely chooses to unless it's for a class assignment. My daughter prefers painting.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:36:56 PM EST] <DesertRose> Hello all. Sorry, just got back from a supermarket run.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:37:01 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hi DR!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:37:10 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Hi DR
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:37:12 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Ah wondered where you went
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:37:26 PM EST] <The_Bee> Hi DR!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:37:53 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Oh, I don't know why DR's arrival jogged my memory, but I remember now, last weekend was the Superbowl, so we just assumed that KK had gone to a Superbowl party or something.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:38:26 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Was it only last week? Seems like a long time ago...
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:38:27 PM EST] <KK> Nope, not a football fan.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:38:38 PM EST] <DesertRose> Don't have to be a football fan.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:38:48 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Neither am I, but I'll go to Superbowl parties for the food. And the commercials. 😄
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:38:59 PM EST] <DesertRose> I've been to many a Super Bowl party that was basically using the game for an excuse to get together and eat junk food.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:01 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I ignore the actual game
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:04 PM EST] <KK> True. And I can appreciate a good game. I'm just not drawn to seek it out.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:17 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Nachos for everybody!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:25 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> More peoople go for the food and fun than for the actual game.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:45 PM EST] <DesertRose> I'd wager you're right, DFK.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:45 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I'll watch maybe the final quarter, which is all I can summon up interest in. Once I know who won, I'm all sportsed out for the year. 😉
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:39:45 PM EST] <KK> If I'd been invited to a party, I probably would have gone, for the company and the food.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:40:12 PM EST] <DesertRose> Exactly, KK. Football, schmootball. Food and company, though, now THAT'S worth your time!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:40:44 PM EST] <The_Bee> I like to know if the home team on, but I don't want to watch it happen.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:00 PM EST] <The_Bee> won
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:01 PM EST] <KK> Oh, today is a special day. It's Daphne's Gotcha Day! One year ago today, I took my cat carrier to the rescue place and brought her home. Definitely a good move, for both of us.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:13 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I like to watch football, but I am not a captive of the TV
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:15 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Awww, happy Adoption Day, Daphne!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:33 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Yay! Kitty treats for the sweet little clever paws!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:35 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Happy adoption day daphne
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:39 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> WOW it has been a whole year. Happy gotch brithday, Daphne
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:42 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Congrat, Daphne and KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:45 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> Happy new mommy day, Daphne!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:41:59 PM EST] <The_Bee> congrat s to both
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:42:08 PM EST] <KK> BRB.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:42:33 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> We finally had a chance to get to the vet clinic during their working hours to pick up Gigi's remains, so now her little can is on the shelf next to KK's books because that happens to be a spot next to the window where she loved to sit and watch the tree frogs every Spring.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:42:58 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Sweet
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:44:46 PM EST] <KK> I'm back.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:44:56 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Welcome back
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:44:57 PM EST] <The_Bee> WB KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:45:01 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> wb
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:45:06 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> wb
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:45:23 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Wb
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:45:31 PM EST] <The_Bee> what is Daphne doing today?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:46:15 PM EST] <KK> Now, as soon as you're ready, you need to find a Worthy Successor! (You can't replace them, you know.) And Bee needs to find one, too..)
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:46:51 PM EST] <KK> Daphne is with me, on the desk, but being less annoying than she sometimes is.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:47:10 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Unfortunately I can't right now, not with aging parents with health problems that might eventually require us moving in with them for a time. It would just be too much on our plates. Maybe someday, though.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:47:38 PM EST] <The_Bee> My apartment is still a long way to go before it's neat enough. i'm doing a read-a-thon of my comics collection so I can clear them out.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:48:14 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I'm also having some health issues that make some aspects of cat care a literal pain. I had to switch to a silica gel litter in the last few years because that was the only kind I could lift.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:48:29 PM EST] <KK> I've been re-reading books to decide whether to keep or re-home.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:48:39 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> And also because Luke's kidney problems required a litter that he couldn't turn into clay mud and track everywhere.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:08 PM EST] <The_Bee> Mickey still comes to visit me sometimes.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:31 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> That's nice, Bee
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:32 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> Frankie came out into the living room this morning and he was limping, poor li['l guy
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:33 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> You're his Other Person
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:45 PM EST] <KK> I've been using KittyPoo, for the last year plus, and you can order from several kinds of litter, including lightweight gel. The whole box gets tossed when the new one gets swapped in, and the old box just goes into the trash. Very good odor control, too. You order it online.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:50:51 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> what did poor Frankie do?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:51:14 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> I'd bet Mickey wants to comfort you by keeping you company, Bee.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:52:19 PM EST] <The_Bee> Sometimes he sits on the arm of my recliner, but more often he curls up on my pillow. I've got in the habit of singingt o him when it's time for him to leave.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:52:40 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Milo, the fuzzy little imp, burnt a paw yesterday; Mom's cooktop is one of those flat glass ones, and he jumped up onto a still-hot burner, probably trying to get at food.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:52:45 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> He's okay.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Glad he is OK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:10 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Poor baby! I was always afraid one of mine would do the same, since I have the same sort of stove, but neither of them did.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:24 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> I was at the pet store today and when I came out this car was parked so close to my car that I could not open the door. So I had to sit in my passanger seat for about 15 minutes before this you girl (teenager I think) comes out of the fast food and gets into her car. I just got out and stood next to the hood of my car intil she left. But I did not say a thing.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:39 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Then again, they knew not to jump on counters when I was home, though we sometimes saw signs that they did when we were away.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:51 PM EST] <KK> You think she got the message?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:55 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> And hopefully learned a lesson about humans having reasons to tell him not to jump up there
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:53:56 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Hope so
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:54:18 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> I don'tI'm not sure what was up with Frankie, I suspect he may have arthritis
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:54:25 PM EST] <The_Bee> I have a photo of Melantha and MIckey sitting on my kitchen table.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:54:39 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Aw, I bet that's a cute pic.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:54:47 PM EST] <KK> I've had those glass-top stoves for decades, and love them. Have never had a cat try to walk on it while hot.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:55:04 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Smart ctas
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:55:24 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Milo is still a kitten, about seven months old.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:55:33 PM EST] <The_Bee> It is. I just hope I haven't misplaced it. They're being naughty, of course.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:55:59 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> How did Melantha get her name?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:56:22 PM EST] <KK> They make good sense, because they provide an additional work surface when not on, which is probably 23 hrs. a day, or maybe more, depending on how often one cooks on the stovetop rather than in the microwave.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:56:22 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Family Christmas, 27 December, said fuzzy little imp using my luggage as a kitten couch.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:56:33 PM EST] <The_Bee> From a book of baby names; it's Greek for "Dark Flower."
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:57:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I've been using my air fryer more than my stove these days, and it has pretty much replaced my regular oven.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:57:36 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Pretty, Bee!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:57:39 PM EST] <KK> That's another good reason for a glasstop stove and additional work surface.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:06 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> What a cutie. I had one who always managed to get IN the luggage when I packed to go anywhere. She did not approve of being left behind even with a cat sitter who spoiled her rotten
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:11 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I don't think you can bake cookies in an air fryer
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:18 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My kitchen is so small (or rather, the working space is) that I've been glad of having the glass top to use as counter space for food prep.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:25 PM EST] <The_Bee> Are glass-tops induction stoves?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:29 PM EST] <KK> This is true. Or in the microwave.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:36 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> @Jerusha2 You can if it's on Bake mode.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:58:42 PM EST] <KK> Some are, some aren't, Bee.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:59:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Mine isn't, Bee, but I think some newer ones are.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:59:13 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> ␝offers pumpkin cookies made in the traditional way␝
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:59:35 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> yumm
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [7:59:56 PM EST] <The_Bee> I recently saw a news atory about them, and how they use electro-magnetism to cook.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:00:07 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My air fryer isn't the kind that looks like a deep fat fryer. It looks more like a very large toaster oven. So it can toast and bake as well as air fry. My mom's is even bigger and has a rotisserie in it for making rotisserie chicken, IIRC.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:00:10 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> ␝pts out scones with clotted cream␝
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:00:33 PM EST] <The_Bee> or maybe that was a different kind of stove.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:00:36 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> more yumm
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:00:45 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Since I am only cooking for two these days, I almost never need the larger oven unless I need to bake something like a whole pizza.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:01:20 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> I have not turned on my oven since thanksgiving
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:01:23 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> And a lot of days I'm just cooking for one, since DH often either works late or eats at his Mom's house if he has gone there after work to check on her.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:01:29 PM EST] * The_Bee offers mulled cider, with brandy on the side.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:01:53 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> So I hate heating up the entire house with the oven to cook just for myself.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:07 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> mmmm, pumpkin cookies and scones with clotted cream! ␝drools␝
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:23 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> heating up the house this last few weeks would be nice, though
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:38 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Ooh, I just remembered I have both my favorite wine and some leftover mulling spices, so I guess I know what I'm having with dinner tonight.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:49 PM EST] <The_Bee> I mostly use my microwave, but I recently roasted chick, and late pork.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:55 PM EST] <KK> I hear toe happy sounds of theme music from All Creatures Great and Small in the next room, so I think I'm going to sign out for tonight. This is a remake, and it's at least as good as the original, on PBS.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:02:56 PM EST] <The_Bee> later
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:09 PM EST] <KK> the happy sounds.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:14 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> night KK, you have yourself a great week. 🙂
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:20 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Enjoy, KK. have a good night
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:23 PM EST] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Have a good week, KK
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:26 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Oh, we did a channel rescan recently, so maybe I have PBS now! I'll need to check.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:34 PM EST] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:34 PM EST] <Eris> <DFK> Me too. I love this show and can't miss it. Have a good week everyone
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:35 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> Okay, g'night and good week, KK! See you next week?
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:40 PM EST] <The_Bee> Nighters, KK! Thanks for coming, See you next week, I hope.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:50 PM EST] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> And thanks for coming to see us!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:03:50 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Goodnight, KK!
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:04:01 PM EST] <Eris> <Laurna> Good night all, I guess I am back to the Sims
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:04:04 PM EST] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Have a good week
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:04:07 PM EST] <KK> Nighters, all. See you next week.
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:04:12 PM EST] <Eris> <Nezz> I'll be back to sims soon... 🙂
[Sunday, February 19, 2023] [8:04:14 PM EST] Quit KK has left this server (Quit: Client closed).
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
