DesertRose

[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:03 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Am I in?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> You are!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, you are!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:10 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Oh, you sure are!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:16 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> and on Discord at that!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I'm definitely planning to get a new cat.  I'm givingher cat food to my neighbor, whose cat is also aging.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:43 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Mibbit wasn't cooperating at all.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:56 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi KK!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> We're glad you're here, however you managed to portal in
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:08:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Mibbit is being cantankerous, and Discord doesn't want to let KK come in as just KK, so numeral and we'll make it behave itself later.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:03 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Hi KK, glad you made it to Discord
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:13 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Well, Welcome to theDiscord side of things. 🙂
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:16 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi, KK!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Probably KK and Bynw and I need to get on a conference call to unhose the Discord username thing.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Mibbit is being cantankerous, and that's outside our control.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:46 PM EDT] <The_Bee> How is Daphne?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> So, hi, KK!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:09:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> A lot of us hang out here and chat about various things all the time, not just on Sunday evenings
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:10:02 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Daphne is great!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:10:24 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Did you hear that Melantha died?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:10:33 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Yes, you're likely to find some of us poking our heads in here at random times throughout the week.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:10:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Incidentally, KK, if you want to pop into Discord next Sunday around 3:30 and jump into the L'Arc-en-Ciel voice channel, we'll be doing a chat and craft, just video chatting with our handwork, and you are more than welcome to join.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:10:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Some very interesting discussions happen here
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:06 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Been lots of good chat about castles and costumes and stuff lately
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> And Bee, so sorry about Melantha. But you were a great cat mom, and I know she was much loved, and loving.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's hard to record from Discord, so we probably won't do the whole-group video chat that way, but for chat and craft, it works great.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:35 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I should have made her take her medicine.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Bee, I'm sorry about Melantha; she was a beautiful kitty, and I'm sure she knew how much you love her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:11:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hello All
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's hard to make a cat take medicine. You did the best you could.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Shiral.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:21 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> You tried, Getting a cat to take medicine is a challenge which most of us have failed one time or another.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Bee, very sorry to hear about Melantha passing
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:24 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> It's very hard to get cats to oblige with that. We only managed with Luke because he adored cheese and had very small pills you could hide in it, but Gigi is too smart to use that trick, and I dread ever having to dose her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, you can only do what you can do, and cats are notorious about doing what they want.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> They're also notorious for being hard to pill
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:44 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Hi Shirl
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm fortunate that Carys is tolerant, but it's still a pain to medicate her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:47 PM EDT] <The_Bee> At least i didn't have to put her down.  That would have been a hard decision to make.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:12:50 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> I can't make Mousie take medicine, I have to give her injections.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:13:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> If I had to pill Dmitri, I'd want to pull on mail gauntlets first
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:13:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys has figured out that I'm going to do [whatever unpleasant thing, like give her medicine or trim her nails] but when I'm done with the unpleasantness, she gets treats, so she's learned to get the unplesantness over quickly.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:14:17 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> It's hard to make that decision for the Final Kindness, but I suspect most of us have had to do it. Still, Bee, it's good that you didn't have to make that decision.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:14:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> I don't think there is anything you can use to disguise meds that the cat can't detect and get rid of. What is really frustrating ia when they eat whatever treat you are using then spit out the pill
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:14:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Made that decision for multiple cats and ferrets over the past 23 years...
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:14:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And it's hard to lose a furry family member, however it happens.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:14:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Yes. It's the last, loving act we can do for them. Cats let us know when they're ready to go
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:15:31 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> They do.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:15:55 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> And sometimes that day comes long before we feel ready
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:15:57 PM EDT] <The_Bee> The woman at the pet clinic was very helpful; she knew just what to do.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:08 PM EDT] <fenix> hi all
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi fenix.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:15 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> hi bynw
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:16 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hello
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hi Fenix
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi fenix
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:29 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Hi fenix, how are things?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:50 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi fenix
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:16:51 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> https://tenor.com/view/phoenix-gif-24286383
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:17:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Wow, that's a scary picture
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:17:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> It's a phoenix
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:17:48 PM EDT] <fenix> yes it is
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:18:05 PM EDT] <fenix> under many names
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:18:15 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Beautiful creatures. Really hard on libraries, though. 😂
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:18:15 PM EDT] <DesertRose> How is Ms. Daphne settling in, KK?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:18:49 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> She's brilliant!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:18:49 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Has Daphne eestablished herself as the boss yet?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:19:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Being a good little purry lap-warmer? :D
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:19:14 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> And on anything flammable, really. Settle for a cat--they generally don't burst into flames!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:19:24 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> My Daphne clone has shown up, but isn't within arms reach yet, which is good since that means she's not trying to hide the chat screen from me
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:19:49 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> https://tenor.com/view/burning-cat-flames-heisse-muschi-hot-cat-gif-15257823
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:19:55 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> My two are having a post-supper nap in the sun on the floor of my bedroom
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:20:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> On the lap whenever I'm sitting, though not now. And getting closer in the bed.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:20:29 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Now THAT"S a Demon-Cat!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:20:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <DesertRose (she/her)> My purry lap warmer yesterday when Bynw asked me to square away a forum problem.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:20:41 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> And i always thought the Phoenix was a bird, not a cat
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:21:02 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Dmitri likes to come help me watch TV
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:21:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> That one would certainly WARM your lap
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:21:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Gigi used to never sleep on me, but I've discovered that was only because when they were allowed in our room, that was Luke's place, so she liked to curl up beside me instead. I had to banish them both from sleeping in there because Luke was too heavy, but now Gigi sleeps directly on me in his place.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:21:50 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Tati likes to help me read the Sunday paper
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:03 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys likes to "help" me with handwork, which gets really interesting.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "Cat! Quit tangling the thread!"
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Yes, a phoenix is a bird, DFK. I posted the fire cat in response to the statement that cats are safer because they don't tend to catch fire.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:29 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "Cat, that is my knitting needle!"
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:41 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Okay, okay, Evie. <:HeartEyesCatWithTongueOut:935376305946492999>
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "Carys, baby girl, could you please NOT bite my crochet hook?"
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:52 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Hi Everyone!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Jerusha.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:22:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:00 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:03 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Hullo Jerusha
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> NOW I've got an armload of kitty
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:48 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> I, surprisingly, have no cats upon me at the moment
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:23:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She's lying across both forearms, though at least is keeping a low profile so I can still see the keyboard and screen.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:24:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I had been keeping my knitting and crochet stuff in my Bodleian Library tote bag, but I've had to move it to my old bookbag (a backpack) so I can zip it up and keep a certain fuzzball OUT of my yarn and stuff.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:24:11 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Only because they are napping in the sun
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:24:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> So now the Bodleian tote holds my sketchbook and zipped pencil case.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:24:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Not sure where Daphne is at the moment. Probably in my chair in the other room.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:24:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys is in my laundry basket, or she was last I looked.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:06 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Cats like laundry, wherever it is to be found.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:11 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I need to find my little gray tabby 1:6 scale cat for my mini-Deryni
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It smells like their human(s).
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Mickey has just come for a visit.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:36 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hi Mickey
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Mickey! Sweet boy to visit you.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Yes. I've resorted to waiting until my laundry is done, feeding the cats then racing upstairs with the clean sheets so I can make the bed without "help."
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> And it is often warm and soft from the dryer
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:25:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hi Mickey. Give Bee some extra love!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have given up on making the bed without The Snoopervisor "assisting."
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:12 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> 70 pound Clumber Spaniels also like laundry baskets, though a pile of laundry works bette
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> The bedroom door exists in order to help facilitate sheet changing.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:37 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> better
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:41 PM EDT] <The_Bee> He first came to visit before I even got Melantha.  I wonder if he misses her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:26:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Probably. Didn't they used to curl up and nap together?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:27:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> That is also true. But the cats will run upstairs WITH me if they suspect bedmaking is about to commence. That's why I have to distract them long enough to make my move
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:27:46 PM EDT] <The_Bee> sometimes.  He also chased her and tried to mount her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:27:52 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I think Gigi missed Luke a little bit, but soon discovered she prefers being the alpha in the household
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:27:53 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I was going to ask if Mickey realizes Melantha is gone.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:28:00 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm sure Melantha was thrilled about that. /sarcasm.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:28:24 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> I hear some definite "Arguments" about that between Dmitri and Tati
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:28:35 PM EDT] <The_Bee> She would give a firm HISSS! when he annoyed her.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:28:36 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Roxie was lost without Catarina. We thought she would like being the only cat, but she only lived about six weeks after Catty died.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:28:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Oh dear
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:29:01 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Of course, Catarina was twenty and Roxanne was eighteen so good long innings for both.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:29:40 PM EDT] <The_Bee> My brother's cat is the last survivor of three.  She definitely likes being an only cat.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:30:05 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> someone is purring loudly now.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:30:17 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> (What qualifies as loud for her, anyway.)
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:30:40 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> And Shelly just came to relax in the kitty hammock (the blanket between my shins)
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:30:51 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's a cool thing about my new enhanced commlinks; there's a tone in Carys' purr that I wasn't hearing before the hearing aids.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:31:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Oh, that must be nice. : )
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:31:15 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It is.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:31:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She's a purry little snugglefuzz.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:31:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose>
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:32:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Tati's purr makes about as much noise as an electric car
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:32:53 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I have no idea how loud that is.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:32:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Very, very quiet, Bee.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:05 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> quiet for a car, loud for a cat
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:29 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Luke was more like a coffee grinder
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:29 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Have to have my ear almost at her tummy to hear it
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:49 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Daphne is now on my lap.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:54 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I sometimes had to put my ear against Melantha to hear her purr.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:33:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I remember reading where they had to install, basically, noisemakers in some of the early electric cars because people didn't hear the car, being used to internal combustion-powered cars.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> That's how Gigi is most of the time, but occasionally she can be heard from a few feet away
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:16 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Daphne! Such a good little lap-warmer you are!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:21 PM EDT] * DesertRose offers Daphne scritches.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I'd heard that, too, DR.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:26 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Hi Daphne!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:37 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Hi Daphne
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:44 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hello Daphne. Take good care of Katherine for us
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:34:51 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> ␝mews and skritchies to Daphne␝
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:35:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Any offers on the house yet KK?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:35:44 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I got puppy kisses the other day. I had gone over to my parents' house, and their neighbors were over, in their golf cart with their two chihuahuas. I offered my fingers for them to sniff (in part to get them to chill with the barking--I did also say, "Hey, this is my parents' house, I'm allowed to be here!"). One of the dogs wasn't too interested, but the other gave me kisses.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:11 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, for full asking price, but I hope to get a bidding war going. 4 more prospective buyers have now looked at it. My realtor is very optimistic.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The one who wasn't interested did at least stop barking.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, good, KK!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Great!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Wow!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:24 PM EDT] <The_Bee> gOOD !
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> For little dogs, Chihuahuas are really loud.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:39 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Oh, good!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:51 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I love land piranhas...I mean Chihuahuas
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Tee hee, for a minute, I thought the Chihuahua had decided not to put in an offer on the house
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:36:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> That sounds great KK. Have been sending good vibes your way
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:37:19 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I read that as "the buyer who wasn't interested stopped barking"
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:37:25 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Well, Shiral, you know a house costs a good deal in kibble and treats!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:37:32 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> A former neighbor of mine had a Chihuahua. That dog would lose it's mind if I walked past the appartment
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:37:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> LOL, Jerusha!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:37:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> LOL, yes. Or there would be more feline home owners
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:21 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> I think all Chihuahuas are convinced that they are rally Doberan's
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:28 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Jerusha, I think you said what I MEANT to try to say
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> It's just little-dog syndrome
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:39 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I do what I can
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:42 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> And they have sharp little teeth
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:38:53 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> very sharp!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:39:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Land Piranhas are a good name for them
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:39:41 PM EDT] <fenix> all you have to do is be accepted as a member of the chihuahuas pack and you are good
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:39:51 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Agree, Shiral.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:40:12 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> My ex-neighbor's dog sure didn't think I was part of the pack, then
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:40:28 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> KK, I have a quick question. While I was scanning some research books for DH, I also made a scanned copy of the Codex just so I could have a searchable PDF version to make it easier to find all of the references in it of certain key words as needed. It's not the nicest copy since I couldn't get the pages to lie neat and flat, but it works....
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:41:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> I once had a neighbor who had nine Chihuahuas, They could beat out any air raid siren
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:41:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> DFK: Oy!!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:41:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> That's an ankle-height wave of calamity
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:42:12 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> So 1) do you want your own copy of it, which might be helpful for you when looking up details while you're writing, and 2) would it be OK to share it (at least with people who already own the actual book)? It might help Nezz with building the Deryni wiki, for instance.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:42:17 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> That would really make research for writing a lot easier.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:42:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Very useful, Evie.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:43:21 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Dinosaur that I am, I prefer leafing through pages. Never know what else you might stumble on
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:44:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I have a digital copy from Rob, long ago, but I don't see any particular problem with sharing yours with our crew. Just don't broadcast it. And I'm also a dinosaur, Jerusha. It's been very difficult to part with some of the paper dictionaries that I'd accumulated, over the years. But space considerations won out.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:44:31 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I actually was able to do a few searches with it that made those connections jump out at me in a way stumbling on details in isolation failed to do. For instance, I worked out the connection between the MacRories and Alaric/Duncan, and then confirmed with Laurna that it was the same connection she had pieced together too.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:45:30 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> @KK1 OK. So don't make it downloadable from the Forum or anything like that, but we can share a link to it in here if someone wants to have access to it?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:45:57 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Alaric and Duncan are Camber's descendants. aren't they?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:46:05 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Sounds good to me.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:46:09 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> ␝happy dance␝
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:47:20 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Long ago, I entered all my Deryni genealogy into the genealogy software I had at the time. Not sure it's still readable, but I'm willing to share.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:47:38 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> They are, Bee, but it takes quite a bit of searching various entries to figure out how, though Laurna managed to piece it together, and then I did it in a few minutes after doing a keyword search or two on "MacRorie" and "McLain" and seeing the highlighted entries appear all together.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:48:21 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Laurna would love to see that, KK, since she very painstakingly put together the connection from Camber to Duncan/Alaric/Kelson, and wanted to double-check if it matches what you had.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:48:40 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> She's got it on her genealogy software too, I think.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:49:28 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I think I no longer have the program, but I do have the files.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:49:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> GEDCOM files, I'll wager...
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:49:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It may be possible to convert the files to make them readable in a different genealogy program.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:49:53 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Even if she doesn't have the same program, some programs will convert file types
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:49:57 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> That's it!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:50:08 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Gedcom.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:50:32 PM EDT] <The_Bee> this is just speculation, but since Jerusha is a female Healer, all her sons should be Healers, and her daughters would atleast be carriers.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:50:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I remember that the program itself was very fiddly, though I did manage to enter all the data.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:52:24 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I've had trouble reading the genealogy charts.  I'm not sure whether to read them vertically or horizontally.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:52:48 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I have a female Healer in my fanfic arc, though unfortunately she's barren. (ISTR that in "Deryni Magic," there's some mention that not all female Healers have fertility problems, but that the Healing trait increases the likelihood that a girl born with that gene will be sterile?)
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:53:00 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Back in the day, they were normally organized horizontally: nowadays you can adjust them however you like
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:53:37 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Jerusha Thuryn had kids, though, so that can't be a hard-and-fast rule.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:54:05 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Yes, it merely increases the likelihood, it doesn't mean all female Healers are sterile.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:54:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Agreed, Evie.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:54:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Jerusha gave Evaine problems during pregnancy.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:54:35 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> I seem to remember a female healer might have children, but female offspring might not survive
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:54:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> But Rhys could name four women Healers, which meant that they were probably attached to a convent because in any other situation for a respectable woman, her Healing ability would not be widely known.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:55:09 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Glad Jerusha survived and had children as welll
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:55:15 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Jerusha and Tieg both. When in utero, they could feel Rhys' patients' pain, and Evaine picked up on it.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:55:21 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I remember that was something Alkari, AnnieUK and I discussed at length, since she was thinking of making Briony a Healer in one of her stories, but didn't want it to mean she couldn't have children later, and then someone mentioned that Jerusha was a Healer and also had children.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:56:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Is there a reason for that?  does a double dose of the Healing gene make them hyper-sensitive to others' distress?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:56:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I wonder if that increased likelihood is known about by Kelson's time? Helena is asking for a friend.... 😉
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:56:35 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hopefully Dhugal will also provide some Healer-children
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:56:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm wondering, too, if the paucity of women Healers was in part because women's education was a bit thin and I wonder how many women Healers just went completely unnoticed.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Like, a merchant-class Deryni woman would probably be educated enough to run the shop, but would anyone even be looking for her to show the Healing talent?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:28 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, not all Deryni women had the same educational advantages that Evaine had.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:29 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Never mind the peasant class.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:45 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> That, too.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:52 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Which was a great pity, if consistent the society they lived in
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:57:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I'd love to see some canonical MacArdry-McLain children, hint hint, that include Healers, though in the absence of such, he'll have at least one Healer offspring in my AU story arc.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:58:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Nobody was looking for Rhys to be a Healer either, but he was being educated as befitted a noble boy and they *noticed* when he Healed the little cat whose name is escaping me. Symber?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:58:34 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> In Laurna's story about the first Washburn and the Cynfyns, Jessa was a healer and eventually had four children.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:58:40 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Consistent WITH the society they lived in, I meant
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:59:12 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, Symber. He was named for my Cimber cat.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:59:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I remembered that both cats in "Catalyst" were memorials to your cats, KK, but I was blanking on names for a minute there.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:59:39 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Healers tend to discover what they can do when they REALLY need to be able to produce results, like Dhugal did
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:59:45 PM EDT] <The_Bee> A recessive gene can pass unnoticed through several generations
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [7:59:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> True.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:00:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Absolutely.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:00:39 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Off goes Gigi to find something else to do besides impede my typing, although not before flashing her fuzzy little bum in my face.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:01:10 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> They present their bums with such pride!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:01:31 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Mousie really likes showing off her bum to anyone on a zoom call
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:01:33 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I keep trying to convince Gigi it's not her best side
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:01:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Dmitri loves to rub his cheeks on the corner of my laptop
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:02:02 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Although her little stub tail is adorable, especially if she's excited and whirls it like a helicopter rotor
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:02:16 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> I thought Duncan Michael was a healer but i could be wrong.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:03:15 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> His brother Jared will be, but I don't think DM will. Unless he has other ideas, as characters tend to do in mid-story. 😂
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:04:26 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> So true.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:04:26 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Have you had a chance to peek at any of the anthology stories yet, KK?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:04:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys has decided it's lap time and sends purrs to y'all.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:04:57 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Purrs back to Carys.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:05:05 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I've submitted a short one and am deliberating whether to submit my Duncan and Maryse story, though it's on the long side for an anthology.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:05:36 PM EDT] * The_Bee would love to see Gigi's whirly-tail in action.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:05:54 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Alas, no. I've been focused on getting the house on the market, and dealing with a colony of honeybees that had taken up residence under the eaves of the library. They're now rehomed, but my handiman stll has to put the fascia boards back up, after he gets them back from the lumber place. It never ends.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:05:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Gigi rarely does the whirly-tail thing, so I have yet to be able to catch it on video
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:06:19 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Oh noooo! At least they've been rehomed
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:06:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> @KK1 I don't have word but since you are on gmail and I use Google docs. i can send you a direct link with the ability to both comment and edit.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:06:52 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> ?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:06:54 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> Hoping the house sells soon for an excellent price, and you'll be able to free up some space for creativity, KK
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:06:56 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Mine are in Google Docs also
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> You can download a Google Doc in Word format.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> I would like to send you the Knighting of Liam story but it is a little olng.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:23 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Wasn't there a big problem with honey-bees dying?  They're needed for many crops.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Ah, that helps.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:49 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> for the anthology
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:07:54 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, bees are endangered, and we'd be in a world of hurt without them.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:08:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> But a good beekeeper can rehome a colony pretty easily.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:08:36 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Google Docs is very similar to Word anyway, but it's just more convenient in some ways because if you're writing in it and want to share a story-in-progress with beta readers, they can comment on it in real time, which is sometimes really helpful.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:00 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> My stepmother had to have some bees rehomed. She has nothing against them, but is very allergic to bee stings
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> Quick question@KK1: Did my check reach you?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> We had a colony take up residence in one of the trees in my parents' front yard. There happens to be a beekeeper basically around the corner from their house, so they called him. If they hadn't been his bees, they were after that.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:09 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> This apparently was quite a nice colony, though. They moved 5 or 6 big honeycombs to the bee box, and found the queen easily enough. All are now moved elsewhere.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> But yes, it's also possible to access a document in Google Docs and convert it easily to Word.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Google docs also helps if your hard drive decides to have a hissy fit
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:09:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I am also allergic, so bees need to do their bee thing away from me, but I absolutely want them to do their thing.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:10:29 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> I need to get Cameron on my computer remotely. I've lost the picture part of my directory; can't access any of my photos right now.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:10:41 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Oh noes!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:10:45 PM EDT] <The_Bee> :(
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:10:45 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Need to also ask him about some other Google items.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:11:06 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Did Cameron and Anna ever get moved?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:11:32 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Nope, house search is temporarily on hold.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:11:43 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Oh dear
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:11:55 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> But the icky neighbors are gone!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Shiral> That's the next best thing!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Good news there, at least
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> !
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:11 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What are they looking for/ A betteer neighborhood, IIRC.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:11 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> That's good, at least
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Glad the icky neighbors are gone
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:27 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Yes, better neighborhood and garaging.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:37 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> I missed hearing about the icky neighbors, but I'm glad they're no longer a problem.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:46 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> They've had quite a lot of hail damage in the past year or two.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:12:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Ouch
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:14:48 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> The most terrifying weather I've ever been through wasn't actually a tornado, though I"ve had a few come close, but it was a small popup hailstorm that came and went in less than 10 minutes, but was extremely eventful while it was happening, and ended up causing major roof damage.
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:15:40 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Are hot climates at greater risk for severe hailstorms?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:16:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> Well, about time for me to fold my tent like the Arabs. Booker is campaigning for supper, and Daphne is hoping for a second supper, I think. I got some Fancy Feast in little tubs that break apart for single servings, and are sealed with a foil bit that's devilish hard to open, so I'm going back to little cans. But we need to eat these up. I had a coupon, so figure I would try them, but no more!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:16:25 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> What made it weirder was that it came literally out of what was a clear blue sky a few minutes earlier, on a warm spring day that I went for a walk in and had just returned from, and right afterwards the sky went back to being sunny and clear blue. It was like being at the epicenter of a weather working!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:16:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Okay, g'night, KK! Thanks for coming to see us!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:16:54 PM EDT] <Eris> <Nezz> KK, hope you have a great week, and sell your house for a boatload of money! 🙂
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:16:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> See you next week?
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Have a great week, and good house-selling woodgies!!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Jerusha2> Have a good week, KK, and good luck on a bidding war!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:18 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie the Verbose> Good luck with the house sale, and also with the cat food opening. 😄
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:36 PM EDT] <Eris> <KK1> See you all next week. And stay healthy and safe, all of you!
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:38 PM EDT] <Eris> <DFK> Have a good week KK and best of luck with the selling of your home
[Sunday, March 20, 2022] [8:17:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's the plan!
