Liesel

Hi.  I've just joined, though I've read as a guest on and off for quite a while.
I'm calling myself Liesel, here, as a nod to a character I'd love to see more of -- Rhysel.
I have loved these books since I first saw one, more than 30 years ago.

Good Welcome to you, Liesel.
I always loved that name and character. she was a pivotal person in the scheme of the story and a very pivotal person in the genealogy trees.
Glad to see you officially have joined us.
May your horses have wings and fly!

Liesel

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Always nice to meet another Rhysel fan!
Of course, I'm a fan of a lot of the characters....

Welcome aboard!

One more thing I meant to mention in my first, 'hello' post:

I really appreciate the pronunciation guide for names and places that I found somewhere n the site.  That is a real help.
Only problem is finding it so many years after first reading the books, I can't shake the pronunciations I made up myself :-)

DoctorM

I know that feeling about pronunciations!

DerynifanK

Where did you find the pronounciations?
"Thanks be to God there are still, as there always have been and always will be, more good men than evil in this world, and their cause will prevail." Brother Cadfael's Penance

DesertRose

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

Hi Liesel,

welcome to this lovely forum. And yes, Rhysel is such an interesting character isn't she.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I agree about the pronunciations. I have used the wrong way of saying several words for more than 30 years and it is hard to say them the way KK says them. but I am trying.
I fear my biggest error comes from the word Deryni. I just can not find myself saying Der-enny(all soft e ) I have always said Der-in-i ( hard i at the end).  Not sure when the day will come when I pronounce it KK's way. On zoom chat I supposed I will need to get it right. LOL

Liesel

I see I'm not alone :-)

And I've got in my head: Rhys == Riss  (like 'miss' or 'bliss')

The pronunciation guide says "Rees".  Is that like in Reese's pieces?

I think he'll always be "Riss" to me, no matter how hard I try to convince myself differently....

Laurna

I named a dog of mine Healers Song of Rhys.  And I call him Reese. My sister always calls him Reese's Pieces.  However she insisted I spelled it wrong, for Rhys should be Pronounced as Rice. We still disagree.

The other one I messed up is Alaric. For years I said: A- lar- ic.  but now I am finally saying his name KK's way: Al-a-Ric.  KK's way flows better with Kel-ric and Ken-ric(oops Kenric is fanfic) But you understand.

Hello and welcome.... I am mainly a lurker but am managing to make Zoom chat when i can - UK based so only one I can make. As to pronunciation - I mainly seem to have been pronouncing as expected  Probably helps I am British - with a mixture of Welsh & English ancestry so the listed ways are 90% like I would naturally pronounce anyway.
