KK Chat - Feb. 17, 2002, pt. 2

[18:16] <Helenmary> bye Kendall
[18:16] <Jessie> bye & huggles Kendall
[18:16] <Martine> Night, Kendall!
[18:16] * Kendall steps onto his Transfer Portal, disappears with a twinkling of lights, and winks at Jessie (wherever she is) as he fades from existence
[18:16] <jm> bye
[18:17] <Martine> Happy writing!
[18:17] <the_Bee> bye kenda;;
[18:17] <Kristy> cya Kendall
[18:17] <Sedina> Bye Kendall
[18:17] *** Kendall has quit IRC (QUIT: Khadassa! I hope this portal isn't trapped!)
[18:17] <Martine> I love that line!
[18:17] <scribbler> LOL!!!
[18:17] <JastaElf> Hee hee hee....
[18:17] <Rambart20> well i need to get going to y'all
[18:17] <KK> Susan Hampshire is the mother of the young laird, a London business-type, who gets called back to Glenbogle to pull the estate out of ruin.
[18:17] <scribbler> night Bart....
[18:17] <Rambart20> bye all
[18:17] <Martine> Night, Bart.
[18:17] <JastaElf> Night Bart!
[18:17] <Kristy> cya Bart
[18:18] <Jessie> bye & huggles Bart
[18:18] <Martine> It sounds like a great series. I hope PBS picks it up soon.
[18:18] <Sedina> Bye Bart
[18:18] <KK> Night, Bart.
[18:18] <Rambart20> *waves as he steps onto his portal
[18:18] <Helenmary> Glenbogle - sounds like it would make a good single malt
[18:18] <JastaElf> I love Susan Hampshire....
[18:18] *** Rambart20 has quit IRC (QUIT: Leaving)
[18:18] <KK> She's terrific.
[18:18] <Kristy> It probably has one....just about every Scottish location does!
[18:18] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:18] <the_Bee> speaking of portals, someone on the ng was wondering if it was possible to booby-trap someone ELSE's portal without their knowledge
[18:18] <KK> This is true.
[18:18] <Kristy> ;-)
[18:18] <KK> I shouldn't think so....
[18:18] <JastaElf> Single Malt... I can drink single-malt again!  :-)
[18:19] <JastaElf> Ooo, Kiri, that would seriously suck if one could.  Ouch....
[18:19] <scribbler> Mark and I gave his brother The MacAllan for Christmas -- he was MUCH appreciative....
[18:19] <JastaElf> yum...
[18:19] <Kristy> Jasta: a very unfunny practical joke.
[18:19] <the_Bee> remember what Tiercel told Conall:  a lot depends on the relative skill of the Deryni involved
[18:19] <Helenmary> He better have been - that's goood stuff :)
[18:20] <jm> Does this mean only the person who created the portal can monkey around with it?
[18:20] <JastaElf> Ooo, I wonder if anyone Torenthi or Council-ish would stoop that low to get one of the good guys...  ;-)
[18:20] <scribbler> it was only the 12-year old, but it was still pretty good according to him and Mark -- I'm not a major Scotch fan....
[18:20] <Martine> That would be very inconvenient, since portals seem to outlast their creators by hundreds of years.
[18:20] *** duck has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:20] <Martine> DUCK!
[18:20] <Jessie> hello duck
[18:20] * scribbler sends greetings to duck
[18:21] <wrengl> Which McAllan did you give him
[18:21] * Martine pounces on duck with lots of huggles
[18:21] <Kristy> hiya, Donald!
[18:21] <wrengl> Howdy Duck
[18:21] <Helenmary> Mr. Donald.  Welcome!
[18:21] <JastaElf> DUCK!!!  Hi sweetie!
[18:21] <the_Bee> Quack quack, Duck!
[18:21] <Bynw> DUCK
[18:21] <duck> hello people
[18:21] <KK> Scott says Dalwinny and Jura are also excellent.
[18:21] <KK> Quack, Duck.
[18:21] <jm> that's what I was thinking, could someone sneak in and set a trap without the main user knowing
[18:21] * JastaElf likes Tullamore Dew all the same tho... :-)
[18:21] <Sedina> hi duck!
[18:21] <Helenmary> I'm also fond of Dalmore.  I've found that I almost always like the ones that start with "D"...
[18:21] <wrengl> Martine: The 18 is like a fine brandy.  It is WONDERFUL
[18:22] <scribbler> Just checked the list -- BBC America will be on digital basic! Hurrah!
[18:22] <Martine> I've tried Scotch - just could never develop a taste for it.
[18:22] <duck> quack quack katherine?
[18:22] <Helenmary> The Dew?!?  My husband is VERY fond of the dew.
[18:22] <Jessie> D is for Deryni, Drinking & Duck?
[18:22] <JastaElf> and Dew!
[18:22] <KK> I should think they'd have to be awfully knowledgeable.  In general, only the creator(s) of a Portal would be able to change its attributes.
[18:22] <Martine> A very apt trio!
[18:22] <Helenmary> Very good, Jessie!
[18:22] * the_Bee passes around drams of the Dew
[18:22] <Kristy> And Darkover?
[18:22] <JastaElf> Oh, I am hugely fond of the Dew.  When I hear those soda commercials I think the whiskey...  :-)
[18:23] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I hate my local cable system seriously badly... They charge way too much for the channels ya get.. :( Imagine, $31.95 for 41 channels!
[18:23] <wrengl> Martine I could never drink Blended scotch, always reminded me of old gym socks
[18:23] <Martine> LOL!
[18:23] <Sedina> lol Pat
[18:23] <Martine> Well, my first taste of Scotch was a 150-year-old something-or-other.
[18:23] <JastaElf> Old Overcoat is one of my fave blends... <snrt!>
[18:23] <JastaElf> Martine, I hope you bless the name of whoever did that for you!  :-)
[18:23] <Martine> Given to me by a professional wine critic. But I couldn't finish it :-(
[18:24] <KK> I've discovered a new tipple: Heather Cream, which is kind of like Bailey's, but made with Scotch instead of Irish whisky.  Not quite as sweet.
[18:24] <wrengl> LOL Jasta!
[18:24] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:24] <Martine> Now THAT I could get into, Katherine!
[18:24] <Martine> I LOVE Baileys.
[18:24] <JastaElf> KK, have you ever had the Godiva choccie liqueur?
[18:24] <KK> YOu'd probably like Heather Cream even more.
[18:24] <wrengl> sounds good Katherine
[18:24] <Martine> Ooooh - I really want to try Godiva!
[18:24] <KK> I think so, Jasta.
[18:24] <JastaElf> It is SO seriously yummy....
[18:24] <KK> Too sweet, as I recall.
[18:24] <Helenmary> My first taste of Scotch was when I was less than a year old.  My parents had been told to rub alchohol on my gums while I was teething and my father decided that if I was going to start drinking that young, I should start on the good stuff: 12 year old Scotch!
[18:25] * Martine picks up her unopened bottle of DiSaronno Amaretto, wondering if anyone wants to trade...
[18:25] <wrengl> Godiva is Wonderful liquor!
[18:25] <JastaElf> I put it over Breyer's French Vanilla ice cream.  :-)
[18:25] * Kristy , who gave up chocolate for Lent, whimpers...
[18:25] <Martine> LOL, HM!
[18:25] <KK> Amaretto is good!
[18:25] <JastaElf> oops, sorry Kristy!
[18:25] * Kelos_al-Hazar needs to find a source for Belgian chocolates; his mother refuses to believe that the Belgian is that good!
[18:25] <wrengl> Put it in Hot chocolate!
[18:25] <Martine> I love amaretto!
[18:25] <Kristy> Jasta, 's okay ;-)
[18:25] <Martine> Especially in chocolate fondue. Yum.
[18:25] <JastaElf> But Kristy, it's Sunday.  And as a priest I can grant you permission for Chocolate today -- Sundays are feast days.  :-)
[18:26] <wrengl> Duck, did you see Australia got the gold in Short Track Speed Skating - - he stayed on his feet!
[18:26] * Kelos_al-Hazar grins
[18:26] <Martine> First time I got drunk I was apparently three. My parents were having a dinner party, and when they were in the dining room, I emptied all the wine glasses left in the living room.
[18:26] <Kristy> Somehow that just doesn't seem fair...
[18:26] <scribbler> That's true -- even though I fast before Communion during Lent....
[18:26] <Martine> Apparently i thought it was funky-tasting grape juice!
[18:26] <KK> Besides that, I'm not entirely certain that giving something up is nearly as efficacious as doing something extra.
[18:26] <JastaElf> fasting before communion is a custom all year round anyway, so you're safe.  :-)
[18:26] <Kristy> Pat: I saw that!  Whoa!  They should have re-run that race.
[18:26] <wrengl> I just found a bar of sugar free belgian chocolate in the supermarket
[18:26] <Helenmary> That's what I've always thought, KK!
[18:26] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Why in the world did they have more than two skaters in one race in Short Track?!
[18:26] <Martine> Amen, KK!
[18:27] <Kristy> Kelos: because otherwise it wouldn't be short-track...?
[18:27] <Harvey> I agree with Katherine.  I think adding something extra and doing something extra has helped me more than subtracting things.  The good things often cause the bad things to go away on their own.
[18:27] <scribbler> I remember my folks had a party, and I went out to the family room the next morning and got a big glass of orange juice -- it was actually from a pitcher of screwdrivers!
[18:27] <JastaElf> There's a new Irish whiskey cream liqueur called St. Brendan's -- rather nice, and it makes me feel holy.  :-)
[18:27] <Martine> Scribbs - that's an act after my own heart!
[18:27] <KK> Besides that, Harvey, who says that chocolate is bad?!
[18:27] <JastaElf> :-) chocolate is a sacrament.
[18:27] <scribbler> I asked my mom, "Mommy, why does this juice taste funny?"
[18:27] <Helenmary> NOT ME!!
[18:27] <wrengl> Short track has been liked to a roller derby!
[18:27] <Martine> And that belief in doing something extra somehow landed me a job planning a youth retreat at my old church <laugh>
[18:28] <Kristy> Well, my only other vice is the Internet, and I *can't* live without that!
[18:28] <Martine> LOL, Pat!
[18:28] <KK> Good for you, Martine!
[18:28] * JastaElf rubs Martine's shoulder in sympathy... :-)
[18:28] <Sedina> lol Kristy
[18:28] <Martine> Well, at least I'm not the main planner!
[18:28] <KK> Being part of a team is good.
[18:28] <JastaElf> Kristy, I give up the Internet during the Three Hours on Good Friday.
[18:28] <Jessie> Martine:  30,001
[18:28] <Martine> I just have to give a witness talk about the Virgin Mary, help with music, and be leader of song.
[18:28] * Kristy reminds self to get stuff for the food drive....
[18:28] <Martine> Jessie - that was 30,000. I'm not up to 30,001 things to do yet! <g>
[18:28] <Kristy> Jasta: lol
[18:29] <Martine> And I have my first three priorities straight, at least :-)
[18:29] <JastaElf> :-) It works out nicely: 3 solid hours of contemplative prayer.  :-)
[18:29] <Martine> Hubby, job, and Rhemuth Castle <g>
[18:29] <scribbler> Oooh, that reminds me, I have to email our associate rector to tell her what days I'm available for readings during Holy Week....
[18:29] <Jessie> Martine:  4 things -- hubby, job, Rhemuth Castle, fanfic
[18:29] <Martine> LOL!!!
[18:29] <scribbler> I can't give up the Internet for Lent -- I'm our church's Web Shepherd....
[18:29] <Martine> Sorry, no fanfic until Rhemuth Castle is done.
[18:29] <JastaElf> Hubby, job and Rhemuth Castle: is that a description of Araxie??  :-)
[18:30] <Kristy> rotfl
[18:30] <Martine> Hmmmmmm... maybe there is an Araxie after all...... <really BIG grin>
[18:30] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Probably not.
[18:30] <KK> Web shepherd--I like that.
[18:30] <the_Bee> Araxie does FANFIC???
[18:30] <JastaElf> She'd read it if they'd have had it...  :-)
[18:30] <scribbler> "Oh where, oh where has my content gone? Oh where, oh where can it be?"
[18:30] <Martine> Well, maybe a LITTLE fanfic. I've got to polish Apple Tree for DA, after all.
[18:30] <Martine> LOL, Scribbs!
[18:31] * JastaElf glances at her new story for DA and grins mindlessly...
[18:31] <Harvey> Chocolate is definitely good...in moderation.  Many things that are good in moderation can become quite unhealthy when unmoderated.
[18:31] <Martine> And if I didn't have ten million things to do, I'd be bored. Then I might get myself into SERIOUS trouble <g>
[18:31] <the_Bee> when is the DA deadline?
[18:31] <duck> everything in moderation harvey including moderation
[18:31] <wrengl> Most healthy things can be overdone
[18:31] <KK> Uh-oh, it sounds like lots of you guys have been seriously been committing fanfic.
[18:31] <JastaElf> Can't remember, bee...
[18:31] <Kristy> Donald: good call!
[18:31] <Kristy> lol KK
[18:31] <Martine> Guilty, Katherine!
[18:31] <Harvey> Yes, duck.  Everything.
[18:31] <scribbler> Not me, not since Christmas....
[18:31] <Martine> Might as well haul me off! <g>
[18:31] * JastaElf do fanfic? <grins innocently>
[18:31] <Jessie> Bee:  I believe it is the end of April
[18:31] <Harvey> Almost.
[18:32] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Sadly, KK, I've not had the time lately. :(
[18:32] <JastaElf> It's all Shiral's fault.  She had to have Nigel send me that e-mail....
[18:32] <Martine> I've got a little piece almost done about Kelson's oldest daughter, at seventeen....
[18:32] * Kristy is still contemplating an essay on her theory of Deryni genetics for DA ::evil grin::
[18:32] <JastaElf> oooo....
[18:32] <JastaElf> cool....
[18:32] <Harvey> No fanfic here, but I have been thinking about it.
[18:32] <scribbler> And where is naughty Shiral today? Probably stuck with the kids again....
[18:32] <KK> Hmmmm, Kristy.  Sounds interesting.
[18:32] <Kristy> Because I like making Donald's head explode :->
[18:32] <the_Bee> I'd like that Kristy :o)
[18:32] <KK> Yes, where <is> Shiral?
[18:32] <Martine> LOL, Kristy!
[18:33] <Sedina> lol Kristy
[18:33] <Kristy> Now if only I could use it in my human molecular genetics class!
[18:33] * JastaElf 's story will be done tonight. <evil grin>
[18:33] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Might do an article about potential casting for an animated version of DR, tho. }:>
[18:33] <the_Bee> dunno. working?
[18:33] <Martine> She's writing, KK, and sending e-mail, but not responsing or chatting :-(
[18:33] <Martine> Whoo hoo, Jasta!
[18:33] *** RainbowDragon has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:33] <JastaElf> :-)
[18:33] <JastaElf> Hi RD!!
[18:33] <Martine> Hi, RD!
[18:33] <Jessie> hello RD
[18:33] <the_Bee> hi RD
[18:33] * scribbler sends greetings to RainbowDragon
[18:33] <Helenmary> Hi RD
[18:33] <KK> Hi, Dragon.
[18:33] <Kristy> Kelos: Billy Boyd for Peregrine!  Oh wait, not a Deryni character.  I have a one-track mind...
[18:33] <wrengl> Hi RD
[18:33] <Sedina> Mike!
[18:33] <RainbowDragon> Hello all
[18:33] <JastaElf> Kristy: me too.  :-)
[18:34] * Kristy grins at Jasta
[18:34] <Bynw> hiyas RD
[18:34] <scribbler> Kristy -- give me a chance to lose more weight, and I'll play Julia.... ;)
[18:34] <Kelos_al-Hazar> I think a high-quality animated is far more possible than a live-action of the movie.
[18:35] <wrengl> Speaking of Shiral, I have not seen her here all week
[18:35] <Martine> Katherine - anything new in the Holybrooke restoration/remodel?
[18:35] <jm> You all with have to excuse me, dinner quest arriving in a bit and need to go help my wife with dinner.  KK wish you a good week for writing. to the have a good week
[18:35] <KK> No, I've been finishing the anthology.  I hope to get out the dark green paint this week, to touch up the spots in the front guest bathroom that the painter missed.
[18:35] *** jm has quit IRC (QUIT: Leaving)
[18:35] <Martine> Night, jm.
[18:35] <Jessie> bye Jerry
[18:35] <scribbler> take care jm...
[18:36] <Martine> Love those painters!
[18:36] <KK> Night, Jerry.
[18:36] <scribbler> oops, too quick -- is he related to Sam?
[18:36] <Martine> Hubby and I resolved early on to do our own painting <laugh>
[18:36] * JastaElf loves painting
[18:36] <wrengl> must be related to sam
[18:36] * Kristy really, really would love to visit Holybrooke :o) or, well, live there
[18:37] <Martine> Hubby paints pictures beautifully. Hubby DOESN'T paint walls so beautifully <g>
[18:37] <KK> We did tongue-and groove on the side of the tub and around the room to sink-height.  It's hard to get the paint into all the cracks on the first go-round--and I wasn't here when he did it.
[18:37] * Martine wants to go with Kristy.
[18:37] <scribbler> Road trip to Ireland, everyone!!!! ;)
[18:37] <Kristy> I'm small.  I'll fit in someone's suitcase.
[18:37] <Martine> I here you there! I had the same problem on our baseboard moulding.
[18:37] <KK> Come along.  If we run out of beds, we've got sleeping bags.
[18:37] <KK> And dogs.
[18:37] <Kristy> :-D yay!
[18:37] * JastaElf will happily sleep with the pups!
[18:37] <Martine> Whoo hoo! Hubby and I are already planning for a Scotland/Ireland vacation in 2003.
[18:37] <Helenmary> Dogs are important.  Can't sleep without a dog!
[18:37] <Bynw> WOO HOOO!
[18:38] * Martine will sleep anywhere - even the roof! <g>
[18:38] <Kristy> Lucky Martine!
[18:38] <wrengl> Dogs AND cats are important
[18:38] <Sedina> whoo-hoo
[18:38] <KK> We don't sleep with them, 'cause Oswald is stinky!  We sleep with the cats--or they sleep with us.
[18:38] <the_Bee> dogs make nice pillows
[18:38] <Martine> I'd sleep with the dogs - but considering I used to acidentally kick little Curley off my bed, it may not be such a good thing!
[18:38] <KK> Oswald is not only stinky, he is a mud-ball.
[18:38] <Martine> LOL!
[18:38] <Sedina> lol
[18:38] <wrengl> Cats make GREAT hot water bottles
[18:39] <KK> They're big; they'd kick <you> out of bed.
[18:39] <Kristy> Pat: oh yes!
[18:39] <wrengl> Sounds like Oswald needs a bath!
[18:39] <Martine> And I'll just HAVE to make arrangements with the stable next door to go riding :-)
[18:39] <KK> Oswald weights nearly 80 lbs.
[18:39] <scribbler> One of these days I'll make it to the British Isles, but hopefully can get around without a car -- Mark refuses to drive on the left side of the road....
[18:39] <KK> It isn't that difficult.
[18:39] <JastaElf> Martine, saddle one up for me too.  :-) I doubt they'll let me bring Jasper.
[18:39] <duck> piece of piss
[18:39] <Martine> Alright!
[18:39] <Martine> Company!
[18:40] <KK> At first, you just have to think before pulling onto the road, first thing in the morning.  And making right turns.  After a little bit, it's fine.
[18:40] <scribbler> I'm giving him a bad time -- Mr. Professional Driver is nervous....
[18:40] <Martine> My husband's asking where the nearest pub is, though! He doesn't ride.
[18:40] <wrengl> LOL
[18:40] <KK> There are pubs.  Believe me, there are pubs.
[18:40] <Harvey>  He can still drive on the right side of the road, but he might not get too far.
[18:40] <wrengl> I don't ride either, forgot how in this life
[18:40] <Harvey> I have been driving on the left side of the road here to practice.
[18:40] <duck> where aren't there pubs in the uk?
[18:40] <Martine> LOL, KK! I'll tell him!
[18:40] <Harvey> I don't think the neighbors appreciate it.
[18:40] <wrengl> LOL duck
[18:41] <Kristy> lol harvey
[18:41] <the_Bee> in UK, the left side IS the right side.
[18:41] <KK> We're not in the UK, Duck, remember?
[18:41] <the_Bee> oops. forgot
[18:41] <duck> i've never been to the emerald isle so it is best not to comment on their drinking practises
[18:41] <KK> But it's true that, where in Ireland are there not pubs?
[18:41] <Martine> LOL!
[18:41] <wrengl> LOL Katherine.
[18:41] <Harvey> Yes, and the sun never sets on the British Empire...well, until it does, I guess.
[18:41] <Martine> John wants to know if they're in reasonable walking distance!
[18:41] <scribbler> Probably more pubs than churches....
[18:41] <wrengl> Hopefully, also places to get tea!
[18:42] <Jessie> Martine:  define reasonable
[18:42] <Jessie> american reasonable
[18:42] <KK> Not easily.  But that can be remedied.
[18:42] <Jessie> or European reasonable
[18:42] <scribbler> KK, have you been watching any Olympic coverage?
[18:42] <KK> Both can be got at Holybrooke.
[18:42] <Kristy> walking there yes; waking back, another story!
[18:42] <Martine> Reasonble = 2 miles, I think.
[18:42] <wrengl> Sounds reasonable going not too sure about returning, however!
[18:42] <Martine> At least for the way there!
[18:42] <KK> Watched pairs skating, bobsled doubles.  Set dances for ice dancing, so far.
[18:43] <wrengl> Not that Kathi or I drink much alchohol!
[18:43] <KK> Of course not.
[18:43] <duck> ok you guys are the nominated skippers
[18:43] <wrengl> LOL
[18:43] <Helenmary> That reminds me, they are giving the Canadians the gold in pairs sometime tonight
[18:44] <scribbler> I think 10:45 Eastern, and probably the same Pacific since they've been tape-delaying everything....
[18:44] <JastaElf> That should be interesting....
[18:44] <KK> Good!
[18:44] <wrengl> Yes.  The Russians will be there also.  They will play first the Russian and then the Canadian National Anthems
[18:44] <Kristy> I kinda wish they'd show more medal ceremonies....they're big-grin moments ;-)
[18:44] <Helenmary> That works for me.
[18:44] <scribbler> Good -- glad that got straightened out....
[18:44] <wrengl> Glad the Canadians are getting the gold.  They WERE robbed
[18:45] <KK> We've been enjoying having Sky Interactive for the Olympics--3 screens to choose from.
[18:45] <wrengl> Yes it is fun to watch the medal ceremonies, no matter who wins!
[18:45] <JastaElf> My fave part of the Olympics used to be seeing lots of medal ceremonies to hear the other anthems.  :-( Now we only get to see US ones, or ones featuring US medalists.
[18:45] <scribbler> I wonder about the American team finishing 5th too -- they had a better routine than the Russians that finished fourth. No medal affected, though....

[18:52] <JastaElf> But while all that was going around, I was touring France by tank.  ;-)
