[07:04.09] <Laurna> lol
[07:04.17] <Dennis> Hi, Shiral!
[07:04.21] <Shiral> Hi all. Oh boy, are transfer portals SUPPOSED to make that noise?
[07:04.33] <Evie> That's about how DS entered the world too, Shiral. :D
[07:04.33] <Jemler> don't forget to set the author traps!
[07:04.42] <Shiral> But....she's already here!
[07:04.43] <The_Bee> only if it's a trap portal.
[07:04.55] <KK> Hee-hee.
[07:04.57] * Shiral sets out a table with strawberries, scones, cream and tea

[07:05.09] <Laurna> Hello Jerusha
[07:05.09] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha
[07:05.16] <Laurna> And hi to cynicalmedic
[07:05.16] <The_Bee> Hi CM
[07:05.18] <Jemler> a trap portal just says "you're screwed"
[07:05.19] <Evie> hi Jerusha and CM
[07:05.21] <Jerusha> Hi Everyone!
[07:05.21] <Shiral> Happy mother's day to all chatters of that persuasion
[07:05.24] <Jemler> hi jerusha, cm
[07:05.28] <cynicalmedic> Evening, all.
[07:05.57] <Shiral> Hello Dennis, CM, Jerusha, KK,Aerlys, Evie, Jemler, Laurna, DR and Bee
[07:05.59] <Evie> It must be chat time. Luke has arrived to sit on my chest and block my view
[07:05.59] <Jemler> which persuasion of mothers are you referrinh to? :)
[07:06.30] <Laurna> I have a pile of snoring dogs at my feet
[07:06.36] <Evie> LOL
[07:06.42] <The_Bee> the ones with kids, I assume
[07:06.49] <Jemler> hey dogs! CATS!
[07:06.52] <Shiral> Any woman who raised a kid, whether as a mother, a stepmother, a grandparent, etc etc
[07:06.52] <DesertRose> Hi, KK, Shiral, cynicalmedic.
[07:07.14] <DesertRose> Sorry, I was afk.
[07:07.18] <Laurna> Does raising horses and dogs count?
[07:07.24] <Shiral> Both my kids are short and hairy, so yes
[07:07.27] <Jerusha> Works for me
[07:07.33] <Shiral> Short and furry, I should say
[07:07.35] <cynicalmedic> I have a dog in my lap, too. She's annoyed because I left her today to visit my new canine nephew.
[07:07.43] <DesertRose> Oh, you cheated on her, cynicalmedic.
[07:07.45] <DesertRose> :)
[07:07.52] <Jerusha> New canine nephew?
[07:07.54] <Evie> Now I know we just need to have DR leave the room and KK will show up
[07:07.57] <KK> Well, if they are your fur kids, then I suppose that counts as being a pet mom.
[07:08.03] <Dennis> Hi, KK!
[07:08.13] <DesertRose> I either have to walk away from my keyboard or make a deliberate effort to summon KK for her to show up.  :D
[07:08.28] <Jerusha> Whatever works
[07:08.30] <Shiral> I do stop short of bathing them with my tongue, since they're both better at it, and shedding like mad
[07:08.33] <cynicalmedic> My sister just got a black and tan coonhound. Her pointer died last month, and she missed him.
[07:08.51] <Jerusha> That's a fair amount of dog
[07:09.02] <Evie> DD has attempted to bring me a grand-kitten for Mother's Day, but I am trying to pass it off on DS now that he has a new apartment that allows pets
[07:09.03] <Shiral> Makes me wonder why I set author traps, then DR. =o)
[07:09.03] <DesertRose> Evie, speaking of furry relatives, did DS not want the foundling kitten?
[07:09.17] <DesertRose> Oh, okay, so you're trying to talk DS into the foundling kitten.  :)
[07:09.23] <Evie> He's not sure yet if he can keep it
[07:09.27] <DesertRose> Well, the author traps work too.  :)
[07:09.34] <KK> A+www.,  Scott loves coon hounds, and blood hounds.
[07:09.36] <Jerusha> I suppose it is very cute, Evie
[07:09.41] <Evie> but I did find a few no-kill shelters in the area, so that's good
[07:09.43] <Aerlys> You don't want the deposit back, Evie?
[07:09.46] <Evie> It's adorable.
[07:09.47] <Shiral> Kittens have a way of worming into people's hearts.
[07:10.05] <Evie> I just can't afford another cat
[07:10.07] <Jerusha> What colour?
[07:10.11] <Evie> black with green eyes
[07:10.20] <Evie> and very sweet and cuddly
[07:10.23] <DesertRose> Kittens are adorable by nature; it keeps you from killing them when they claw the furniture or wee outside the litter box.
[07:10.26] <The_Bee> a with cat!
[07:10.33] <The_Bee> witch cat
[07:10.33] <Dennis> Kitteh!
[07:10.35] <KK> Aw one more cat doesn't eat that much more.
[07:10.46] <Shiral> I guess it's good that I'm on the other side of the continent, because it would probably make me coo
[07:10.53] <Evie> she's been a perfect angel with a litter box and knows what the scratching post is for
[07:11.11] <DesertRose> Excellent.  I'd take her if I had the pet deposit for my building's requirements.  :)
[07:11.24] <Evie> No, but vet bills are rough when your finances are already strained to maximum capacity
[07:11.29] <KK> What does Luke think of her?
[07:11.31] <DesertRose> Yes, that's a lot of my problem.
[07:11.31] <Aerlys> mmm...Papa Smurphy's pizza in the oven. Smells goooooood!
[07:11.51] <Jemler> blue pizza?
[07:11.56] <Aerlys> :)
[07:11.59] <Evie> She's being kept in the bathroom when she's here so that the big cats won't bully her.
[07:12.04] <Laurna> I hope that is a big pizza for your family
[07:12.07] * DesertRose rolls her eyes in Jemler's direction and half-heartedly lobs a goldfish at him.
[07:12.08] <Shiral> Wow, smurph Pizza....
[07:12.17] <KK> True, vet bills can be the unexpected disaster.
[07:12.21] <Aerlys> 4 pizzas
[07:12.29] <Jerusha> Black with green eyes - purrfect
[07:12.31] <Evie> and she's been making the rounds of DD's friends' houses this weekend, so it's a good thing she likes car trips
[07:12.36] <Laurna> wow   may I come over too
[07:12.49] <cynicalmedic> I bought pet insurance, but it only helps a little.
[07:12.52] <KK> I love black cats.
[07:13.08] <The_Bee> Melantha is black.
[07:13.09] <DesertRose> I had a tom who was black with green eyes; I'd have named him Jade if he'd been a girl kitteh, but because he was a boy kitteh, his name was Cyrano (because my parents had a Roxanne kitteh).
[07:13.12] <Jerusha> And green eyes
[07:13.15] <Evie> at the moment I can't even spare enough for routine care, much less emergency visits to a vet
[07:13.18] <Aerlys> Then the kids picked out ice cream with toppings for dessert. DS3 was sick, so I stayed home with him, and this is easier than going out to eat
[07:13.22] <Laurna> It must be that magic touch
[07:13.26] <Shiral> I'm so vulnerable to cuteness, I don't dare go near a kitten unless I'm actively looking for a new cat
[07:13.30] <DesertRose> Hey, that works, Aerlys.
[07:13.35] <Jemler> especially with cats. act of god and act of cat are synonymous!
[07:13.53] <Aerlys> DH got a little bonus on a job, so he's splurging on me
[07:13.55] <Jerusha> Is DS3 feeling better?
[07:14.02] <DesertRose> My family doesn't go out to eat on Mother's Day because too many people are out to supper and my mom hates it.
[07:14.12] <Aerlys> He's got an awful cough and sore throat
[07:14.16] <Jerusha> I hate when they want to rush you out
[07:14.25] <KK> Shiral, I know you've had your share of kitty/vet surprises.
[07:14.28] <DesertRose> So we're doing a combination dinner for Mother's Day and my stepdad's birthday on Friday.
[07:14.31] <Jerusha> Hope he feels better soon, Aerlys
[07:14.32] <Evie> we had a slighly late lunch and missed most of the after-church Mother's Day crowd
[07:14.33] <Aerlys> And it takes way longer to get served or seated
[07:14.37] <DesertRose> Poor DS3, Aerlys.
[07:14.44] <Shiral> My mom's down visiting my sister in Monterey. So no brunch, but I did leave a nice bouquet at her apartment.
[07:15.10] <Shiral> Aerlys, your family would probably fill smaller restaurants. =o)
[07:15.11] <Aerlys> That's ok, I got to stay home with him and sleep in while everyone else went to church
[07:15.17] <Jerusha> DS1 sent me a nice bouquet
[07:15.25] <cynicalmedic> We went out with our son yesterday. He just finished with the latest class of baby troopers, and he's taking a week off before he fills in on patrol.
[07:15.28] * DesertRose begins to sing, "Always look on the bright side of life..."
[07:15.42] <KK> We went to brunch at the usual place; had a lovely meal, then drove around for a wile.  My mom enjoyed that.
[07:15.56] <Jerusha> Nice to get out and about
[07:16.02] <DesertRose> That's cool, KK.  Happy Mother's Day to your mom and to you!  :)
[07:16.11] <Jemler> i pkayed WOW.
[07:16.14] <Aerlys> yes indeed!
[07:16.22] <Laurna> Me too jemler  LOL
[07:16.32] <Shiral> Fresh air on a May afternoon is always nice. =o) Unless you're under a tornado warning
[07:16.35] <The_Bee> Did Cameron do anything in honor of Mothers' Day, KK?
[07:16.36] <Jemler> YOU HAVE DRAENOR?
[07:16.52] <Laurna> But of course
[07:16.58] <Jemler> sorry for the caps.
[07:17.21] <KK> No, but I know they're deep in the throes of planning the big day.  And my sister did remind me, in a very sweet card, taht by this time next year, I'll be Mom to two.
[07:17.26] <Laurna> Working on leveling my side avatars
[07:17.30] <Jemler> with dialysis,i don't play every day.
[07:17.50] <Shiral> Always nice to look forward to. Does the bride-to-be have a dress, yet?
[07:17.59] <DesertRose> That's awesome, KK.
[07:18.00] <Jemler> i only use one so far. Dwarf warlock, lvl 94.
[07:18.03] <Laurna> Wow KK
[07:18.17] <KK> Last I heard, she had found one and was waiting for it to be delivered.
[07:18.21] <Laurna> Jemler Troll mage 100
[07:18.44] <Jerusha> Is the wedding in your area, or theirs, KK?
[07:18.55] <KK> I need to seriously find out what the level of formality is, and what she'd like me to wear.  Scott is wearing his kilt, since Cameron is, so I may do something plain with a tartan sash.
[07:18.59] <Shiral> Now all she needs is the shoes, the bouquet, and the cake....Oh, And the church, the reception venue and the caterer. ANd the photographer......
[07:19.01] <DesertRose> Had they set a date?  I don't remember.
[07:19.22] <Dennis> Mine's 27 days away.
[07:19.23] <Jerusha> Kilts - wonderful
[07:19.32] <Shiral> Exciting, Dennis =o) Congrats
[07:19.38] <Evie> :)
[07:19.40] <Laurna> Congrates in 27 days Dennis
[07:19.41] <KK> September 26.  And they have the church and reception venue, they've tasted cake and appetizers and main courses.  I think they have the photog.
[07:19.42] <Dennis> Thank you.
[07:19.53] <DesertRose> Congrats, Dennis.
[07:20.00] <Shiral> Sounds like they're very well organized, then. =o)
[07:20.05] <Dennis> Congrats to Cameron and his intended as well.
[07:20.09] <Jemler> what name/realm?
[07:20.10] <DesertRose> That's cool, KK.  My aunt and uncle's anniversary is Sept. 21.
[07:20.16] <KK> But who's counting, eh, Dennis?  ;)
[07:20.18] <Shiral> Wow, that IS coming up fast....
[07:20.35] <Jerusha> My anniversary is the 27th
[07:20.42] <KK> Cameron's is Anna.
[07:20.47] <Evie> Congratulations, Dennis!  KK, sounds like Cameron and his lady are planning on starting their celebration of Alaric's birthday a little early, if I remember my calendar right. :D
[07:20.52] <Laurna> I hope your 27 days go by fast without stress
[07:21.04] <The_Bee> Two of my siblings were married in September.
[07:21.06] <Dennis> Not me. :)
[07:21.15] <Dennis> Thank you, Laurna!
[07:21.28] <Aerlys> September's a great month
[07:21.30] <Shiral> My brother and sister-in-law are coming up on their 25th wedding anniversary
[07:21.38] <Shiral> August 11th
[07:21.51] <DesertRose> Shiral, that's my mom's birthday. :)
[07:21.53] <cynicalmedic> My sister got married on Halloween, and my anniversary is the 25th of this month.
[07:22.08] <Shiral> That's my mother's birthday, too. =o)
[07:22.25] <DesertRose> Oh, that's right, your mom and my mom share a birthday.
[07:22.27] <DesertRose> I remember that now.
[07:22.28] <Shiral> It would be fun to plan a Halloween wedding... =o)
[07:22.46] <Jerusha> Hopefully not pointed hats for the bridal party
[07:22.58] <The_Bee> You'd have to invite all your dead relatives.
[07:23.04] <Jerusha> The bride and broom
[07:23.07] <Laurna> I always wanted a spring wedding with Lilacs and Peones for flowers
[07:23.08] <Shiral> No, but maybe a batwing edge motif to the Bride's veil? =o)
[07:23.17] <cynicalmedic> It was. The best part was the DJ for the reception - his name was Rod Serling.
[07:23.33] <Jerusha> Seriously?
[07:23.36] <Evie> :D
[07:23.43] <Laurna> Jerusha  deserves a gold fish
[07:23.56] <cynicalmedic> Seriously. He showed us his driver's license.
[07:23.57] <Jemler> his marriage was in the twilight zone?
[07:24.08] <Jerusha> Think of it as fishing for compliments.
[07:24.12] <Shiral> I'm sure there's plenty of birthday to go around for both, DR.  Her good friend Ellen Siegelman's birthday is ALSO August 11th
[07:24.55] <DesertRose> Good day.  :)
[07:25.23] <Shiral> Very much so. =o)
[07:25.34] <KK> So Dennis have you gotten to make any of the decisions about your upcoming nuptials, or is your bride taking care of all that?
[07:26.28] <Dennis> I have been involved in some of it.
[07:26.47] <Jerusha> So long as you show up on time, it's OK
[07:26.52] <Laurna> More then just what you are going to wear I hope
[07:27.07] <The_Bee> After one niece's wedding, they learned that the "minister" who performed the ceremony was a fake.
[07:27.11] <Shiral> Oh, and wear your tux, when you do. =o) Shoes shined, hair combed, and you're golden. =o)
[07:27.15] <DesertRose> OMG Bee, yikes~
[07:27.42] <Laurna> Dear me
[07:27.52] <Jemler> how could they tell, bee?
[07:27.54] <Shiral> Oy!
[07:27.57] <The_Bee> Fortunately, it was in Vermont.  Under Vermont law, if either party believes it's a valid marriage, it is.
[07:28.09] <Jerusha> That's good
[07:28.26] <Shiral> Hopefully BOTH of them did. =o)
[07:28.31] <Laurna> odd! Don't both parties need to believe it is a valid marriage?
[07:28.38] <The_Bee> She now has a son who's looking a colleges.
[07:29.16] <The_Bee> No, Laurna.  That way one can't trick the other.  Anyway, they both meant the mariage to be real.
[07:29.47] <Jemler> what about the minister?
[07:30.02] <The_Bee> I don't know how they found out about him.
[07:30.21] <Jemler> he could probably quote the bible.
[07:30.32] <Jemler> that's a dead give-away
[07:30.52] <The_Bee> The wedding was held in the church in the village where my dad grew up.
[07:31.19] <The_Bee> Someone must have ratted him out.
[07:31.43] <KK> Simply being a minister isn't enough.  Ministers have to satisfy whatever requirements the state has.  In some states, like California, it's pretty easy. In others, not so much.
[07:31.44] <Evie> Not necessarily. I've known of people who paid for a "mail order minister" certificate in order to qualify under their state laws to be able to perform weddings for friends. But for couples who want an actual minister to marry them, that's generally not what they're wanting.
[07:31.45] <Shiral> Joram would DEFINITELY take him to task, if he ever found him
[07:33.19] <The_Bee> I heard once that in North Carolina all it takes to found a new religion is three people.  I guess the congragants have to outnumber the minister.
[07:33.36] <Evie> I knew a woman who got her "minister" credentials via mail order just so she could officiate in a wedding ceremony, and I'm not sure she would have known a Bible verse (or other comparable verse from some other religious text) if it had smacked her upside the head
[07:33.38] <DesertRose> Those mail-order ones are also nice for people who aren't Christian but want a legal wedding that isn't at the courthouse.
[07:34.00] <Dennis> Our celebrant is Unitarian.
[07:34.12] <KK> That Universal Life Church credential is enough in some places.  But going through an actual ordination of some sort is more real for the minister as well as the couple.  And of course, it's the coupe who marry one another.  The minister is simply a witness for the state.  Goes back to when a justice of the peace wasn't always available, so ministers were l
[07:34.25] <KK> allowed to stand in loco statis.
[07:34.39] <Shiral> My brother and SIL had a Unitarian.  They'd been turned down a few times, and when they phoned their officiant he said  "Why SURE I'll marry y'all!
[07:34.43] <DesertRose> Oh, I never knew that little tidbit, KK.  That's cool!
[07:35.10] <The_Bee> We were raised Unitarian Universalist.
[07:35.34] <Shiral> Hence Duncan's irregular marriage. =o)
[07:35.35] <KK> That's part of what people object to, who don't want same sex marriage.  If everyone went through a JP ceremony, then churches could be free to make their own requirements for whether they would recognize a given marriage.  It's partially a problem with the terminology.
[07:36.00] <The_Bee> KK, I read that in Puritan Boston, a wedding was considered a legal affair, not a religious one.  Hence the JPs?
[07:36.34] <KK> It would be something akin to the blessing ceremony that Prince Charles and Camilla went through, after being "married" my the local justice of the peace.
[07:37.25] <DesertRose> I have a friend who is a Wiccan priestess who got the Universal Life credential so she can perform handfastings that are legal marriages.
[07:37.41] <Evie> In Europe (or at least parts of it), the civil marriage is what is considered marriage by the state. If a couple wants a Church wedding (Holy Matrimony), that is fine, but they still have to have the civil marriage to make it legal according to the State's requirement
[07:37.55] <DesertRose> Should the participants want a legal wedding in addition to the handfasting, that is.
[07:38.10] <KK> Actually, the law has gone part of the way to make that work, since civil partnerships are legal.  And that might take the wind out the sails of fundamentalists who somehow think that a same sex marriage would somehow detract from their mariages.
[07:38.14] <Jemler> so thet have 2 weddings?
[07:38.16] <DesertRose> I think that's the case in Germany, Evie.
[07:38.51] <The_Bee> People who want to get married are not a threat to marriage.
[07:39.00] <DesertRose> One of my SCA friends is a naturalized US citizen, but she was born in Germany and married a US serviceman and moved here to live.
[07:39.11] <KK> Most European countries require a civil ceremony; and a religious ceremony afterward is up to the couple and their faith group.
[07:39.22] <DesertRose> And I think that was what she said she and her hubby had to do to be considered married in Germany.
[07:39.30] <Shiral> That's how I feel too, Bee. And people who have to fight for the right to get married and be seen as legally married value that status the most.
[07:40.23] <Shiral> People who get very drunk and drive up to the window of hunka-burnin' love Wedding Chapel in Vegas the same  night they met....I kinda DO wonder about their commitment!
[07:40.41] <KK> The rucus is partly due to the way this country evolved, with a civil authority not always being available when a couple wanted to legitimize a relationship.
[07:40.41] <DesertRose> Yeah, let's merge away from political discussion if we can, please.
[07:40.46] <The_Bee> or if they even realize they're really married
[07:40.50] <Shiral> Exactly
[07:40.51] <Evie> They might need to be committed, Shiral... ;)
[07:41.06] <DesertRose> Or at least detoxed, Evie.  :P
[07:41.34] <Evie> :D
[07:41.37] <Laurna> My niece and her wife had a lovely wedding last month. they are a beautiful couple.
[07:41.46] <The_Bee> To get married, you'd better be totally committed
[07:41.58] <Shiral> Sorry, I'm not trying to be political. I just think that people who have to jump through a few more hoops to get married will feel all the more joy when they DO achieve that status, at last.
[07:42.06] <Dennis> Eh, I should have been committed YEARS ago. :)
[07:42.09] <DesertRose> Which is a lot of why twenty years after my divorce, I'm still unmarried, Bee.  :P
[07:42.36] <KK> Wasn't verging into the political, I don't think.
[07:42.43] <DesertRose> I understand, but that's a political hot-button topic and I just don't want a big acrimonious argument in our lovely fandom space.
[07:42.45] <Shiral> And that their marriage will do nothing to detract from any other married couple's union
[07:42.49] <DesertRose> No, I agree.
[07:43.14] <Jemler> she said that when i mentioned jeb bush.
[07:43.38] <DesertRose> Yes, I did, although that was just me, Jemler and Aerlys at that point.
[07:43.44] <DesertRose> And a lurking bynw-out.
[07:43.58] <KK> brb
[07:43.58] <Shiral> DR and Evie, they need an intervention before they hit that drive up chapel window, I think. =o)
[07:44.10] <DesertRose> It's not looking like it's heading towards an argument, but I just don't want that to happen here.
[07:44.13] <Evie> Hopefully not literally hit.
[07:44.28] <DesertRose> No kidding, Shiral and Evie.  :)
[07:44.33] <Jemler> how's the blue pizzacoming?
[07:44.40] <Evie> blue pizza?
[07:44.57] <DesertRose> Aerlys said something earlier about Papa Smurphy's pizza, Evie.
[07:45.01] <Evie> LOL
[07:45.02] <The_Bee> Mike Huckabee, who's running for President  again, reversed his stand on same-sex marriage when his son came out as gay.
[07:45.04] <Laurna> I bet Aerlys is happiely eating away at yummy peperoni
[07:45.18] <Shiral> Definitely don't want to argue.
[07:45.25] <Jerusha> Or smurf sausage
[07:45.26] <DesertRose> That, or attending to a sick young'un.  DS3 is unwell.
[07:45.41] <Evie> Jass will be right over to help with the pizza
[07:45.51] <Shiral> Bright blue pizza....I don't think I'm ready for that. =o)
[07:46.02] <Evie> alien pizza
[07:46.06] <Laurna> lol
[07:46.12] <DesertRose> It's like that horrible blue ketchup they had a few years ago. NOT appetizing, to my way of thinking.  :)
[07:46.13] <cynicalmedic> Now I want pizza,  darn it.
[07:46.31] <Jerusha> I have this horrible song now going through my mind - "blue pizza, wider than a mile..."
[07:46.39] <DesertRose> O.o?
[07:46.48] <Shiral> LOL, Jerusha
[07:46.53] <The_Bee> "I'm eating you in style some day.
[07:47.01] <Laurna> lol
[07:47.01] <Evie> "What's the blue stuff?" "Sliced air kraken tentacles." "OK, not hungry anymore."
[07:47.18] <Jerusha> LOL, Bee
[07:47.24] <Dennis> So anyway, how about those Haldanes? :)
[07:47.26] <Shiral> I can't even handle GREEN ketchup very well! Ketchup means "red stuff" to me
[07:47.47] <Jerusha> I can't handle ketchup.  Period.
[07:47.49] <DesertRose> Ketchup is tomato based.  It is supposed to be red, darn it.
[07:47.57] <Dennis> I'm fading in and out. Sportsball on in the background.
[07:48.02] <Laurna> I prefer BBQ sauce
[07:48.05] <Shiral> Well, Richelle finally forced me to write something. Or rather Brecon did
[07:48.06] <Jemler> AFV here
[07:48.10] <The_Bee> If you want green, use relish pr picalily
[07:48.14] <Evie> I'm writing about Haldanes. Modern-day Haldanes anyway
[07:48.16] <Jerusha> Glad she did, Shiral
[07:48.20] <Dennis> Green ketchup is nasty....
[07:48.26] <Jemler> brecon ramsay?
[07:48.31] <Jerusha> Looking forward to it, Evie
[07:48.35] <Dennis> Are they still royalty, Evie?
[07:48.41] <Shiral> Richelle Haldane's Mearan husband, Jemler.
[07:48.41] <Laurna> How are Richelle and brecan fairing in the cold norwet
[07:48.46] <DesertRose> Oh, that's right, Jemler doesn't read the board much.
[07:48.47] <Evie> yes, Dennis
[07:48.51] <Aerlys> sorry, went afk for pizza.
[07:48.54] <DesertRose> Jemler, you should go read the forum more often.
[07:48.55] <Aerlys> Not blue
[07:48.59] <DesertRose> All good, Aerlys.
[07:49.09] <Jerusha> And hopefully not green
[07:49.12] <Shiral> They're dealing with a house that  is.....not very comfortable. =o)
[07:49.34] <Laurna> Is it a cottege or a castle
[07:49.38] <Jerusha> But will be the feature on HGTV next week as a reno
[07:49.39] <DesertRose> BRB, tea
[07:49.40] <The_Bee> red pizza ok, white pizza ok.  green or blue, not so much.
[07:49.45] <Jemler> cottAge
[07:49.49] <Shiral> Manor house. Falling down from neglect
[07:49.52] <Evie> LOL Jerusha
[07:50.08] <Laurna> OK Jemler
[07:50.10] <Jemler> pepperoni, sausage, green peppers
[07:50.17] <cynicalmedic> We had crab dip pizza last week. It was surprisingly good.
[07:50.24] <Evie> "On the next episode of 'This Olde Manor House'..."
[07:50.28] <The_Bee> sausage and mushrooms for me
[07:50.34] <Jemler> you dipped a crab in pizza?
[07:50.58] <Shiral> I think Richelle would be REALLY happy to see the "This old house" crew roll up to her door."
[07:51.15] <Jerusha> Or Colin and Justin
[07:51.17] <Laurna> I'll bet she would.
[07:51.24] <Aerlys> actually, this is gourmet vegetarian with chicken added. Lots of yummy veggies and cream sauce. On gluten free crust, so it's all mine
[07:51.44] <Laurna> Or A messaginger from her brotherinlaw with a large purse.
[07:51.48] <Shiral> Nicely maneuvered, Aerlys =o)
[07:52.27] <Aerlys> Did y'all know that originally ketchup wasn't just tomato? +http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchup,
[07:52.51] <DesertRose> I knew that it was originally a Chinese fish-broth based sauce.
[07:52.55] <Shiral> Oh, she's Countess of Culdi--she's got werewithal. But the house has been empty after being neglected for so long.....
[07:52.56] <Evie> You just won my heart, Aerlys, saying y'all. :D
[07:52.59] <DesertRose> But these days, it's tomato-based.  :)
[07:53.07] <Evie> and yes, I've had banana ketchup before. Vile stuff. :D
[07:53.15] <Jerusha> Ick!
[07:53.20] <Shiral> But she's probably going to be VERY happy to be back in civilization for Christmas Court.
[07:53.32] <DesertRose> EW, yuk.  Why banana ketchup?
[07:53.49] <Jemler> banana ketchup? did they leave the skin on?
[07:53.56] * Shiral takes a big bite of scones, cream and strawberries to take the thought of "banana ketchup" out of her mind
[07:53.57] <Evie> we were in the Philippines and I asked for ketchup on my burger. That's what they had on hand.
[07:54.12] <Laurna> Banana ketchup does not sound civilized.
[07:54.15] <Aerlys> nasty surpise
[07:54.20] <Shiral> Shudder.  Bananas and ketchup, sounds HORRIBLE!
[07:54.21] <DesertRose> There's a little sushi joint around here that serves what my friends all call "banana lava."
[07:54.26] <Jerusha> Not a-peeling
[07:54.43] <Evie> Jerusha, do I need to get out the mackerel launcher
[07:55.00] <Shiral> I'm going to hate myself for asking DR, but how did it earn that name?
[07:55.05] <Jerusha> What? for me?
[07:55.08] <DesertRose> It's slices of banana, rolled in panko, and deep fried, and if you like bananas, they're so yummy that you tend to want to eat them before they cool enough, hence the lava.
[07:55.15] * Jerusha looks innocent
[07:55.29] <cynicalmedic> Jerusha just stole the pun throne from Jemler
[07:55.30] <Shiral> Oh. Well, that was better than I thought. =o)
[07:55.32] <Jemler> it was me throwing my voice.
[07:55.51] <Jemler> say what?
[07:55.59] <Laurna> That old Deryni trick?
[07:56.00] <Jerusha> Then I will throw you the mackerel. :D
[07:56.03] <DesertRose> They're always freshly prepared, so you will burn the crap out of your tongue if you eat them as soon as they get to the table.
[07:56.29] <Shiral> My mother used to make bananas flambe. LOTS of rum, lemon juice bananas fried crisp and served with lots of whipped cream.  Even old shoes would taste good prepared that way.
[07:56.43] <KK> I'm back.  That was a Happy Mother's Day call from my kid.  Good to hear from him.
[07:56.53] <DesertRose> I'm up for that, Shiral, but I like bananas anyway, so...
[07:56.54] <Jerusha> Nice, KK
[07:56.57] <DesertRose> Oh, yay, KK!
[07:56.58] <The_Bee> ever had bananas foster?
[07:57.00] <Laurna> good Kk
[07:57.02] <Shiral> You missed the Banana ketchup, KK
[07:57.09] <Jemler> who's foster?
[07:57.09] <Shiral> No, Bee
[07:57.19] <Jerusha> I've never fostered a banana
[07:57.26] <Aerlys> adopted bananas?
[07:57.33] <KK> Those crispy bananas sound good!
[07:57.35] * Shiral swats Jerusha with an anchovy
[07:57.36] <DesertRose> I'm going to beat my kid if she doesn't call me today, both because it's Mother's Day and because she needs to do something for her SCA garb.
[07:57.41] <The_Bee> I did once.  It was good, but I forget the ingredients.
[07:57.42] <DesertRose> The banana lava, KK?
[07:58.01] <Shiral> My mother used to make bananes flambe--the only form in which I've ever liked bananas
[07:58.02] <Jemler> here's a hint, bee. it has bananas.
[07:58.07] <KK> Shiral's bananas flambe.
[07:58.09] <Dennis> Happy Mother's Day from your fans as well.
[07:58.13] <DesertRose> That does sound good.
[07:58.16] <The_Bee> LOL Jemler
[07:58.19] <Aerlys> ack. brb
[07:58.29] <DesertRose> Uh oh, Aerlys, that doesn't sound good.
[07:58.31] <Laurna> Pizza  Fight?
[07:58.39] <KK> Does the sauce somehow get caramelized, and that's what makes it crispy?
[07:59.10] <Shiral> No....it's just.... delicious.  Lemon juice, rum, brown sugar and butter. I mean, what wouldn't taste good with that all over it?
[07:59.21] <Jerusha> Bananas
[07:59.31] <DesertRose> I made fried plantain slices to go with ropa vieja a while back, and plantains will caramelize in the frying process, so I don't see why bananas wouldn't.
[07:59.33] <Jemler> do you eat it or drink it?
[07:59.44] <Evie> If she's alone with sick kid, I'm guessing something as messy as a pizza fight but less enjoyable
[07:59.52] <KK> So, it's the brown sugar and butter that caramelize....
[07:59.55] <Shiral> Bananas are fried in the butter so they're tender inside, it's the banana lava that gets crispy
[08:00.22] <Shiral> I don't think she caramelized it, just made this fabulous goo with it
[08:00.36] <DesertRose> LOL @ fabulous goo.
[08:00.36] <Shiral> She did caramelize the sugar for creme caramel, though.
[08:00.51] <KK> But cooking the bananas in the brown sugar and butter would make a caramel.
[08:01.36] <KK> A crispy caramel.
[08:01.40] <Shiral> I guess it would get to the earlier stages of caramel flavor, but  it wasn't cooked long enough to actually caramelize the sugar
[08:01.46] <DesertRose> Y'all are making me hungry.
[08:01.51] <DesertRose> :)
[08:01.55] <The_Bee> Is peanut brittle basically caramelized sugar with peanuts?
[08:02.02] <Jemler> what's a y'all?
[08:02.03] <Dennis> Any writing updates. KK? Still learning about treecats?
[08:02.13] <Evie> basically
[08:02.25] <KK> So how did they get crispy.  Am I misreading or misremembering your description?
[08:02.27] <DesertRose> Peanut brittle is cooked to hard-crack stage, I know that much, but other than that, I don't know what goes in peanut brittle.
[08:02.48] <DesertRose> I don't have a candy thermometer, so I've never tried to make peanut brittle.
[08:02.59] <Shiral> Actually I think you're thinking of the banana lava that DR described
[08:03.02] <DesertRose> My mom has one and uses it to make pecan pralines that are absolutely to die for.
[08:03.15] <Laurna> Yumm
[08:03.16] <The_Bee> I dimly recal my mom making peanut brittle.
[08:03.16] <Evie> yum
[08:03.18] <DesertRose> Assuming you like pecans and aren't allergic.
[08:03.21] <KK> Still learning about tree cats and other Honorverse background, to see what others have done.
[08:03.34] <Jemler> peanuts, sugar, water, corn syrup, kosher salt, baking soda, unsalted butter
[08:03.40] <Shiral> It's served at a restaurant near where she lives.  The bananes flambe weren't actually very crisp except on the outside, inside they were tender
[08:03.41] <The_Bee> are you allergic, DR?
[08:03.46] <DesertRose> My family will fight over Mom's pralines.  :)
[08:03.51] <DesertRose> No, but some people in the world are.
[08:04.12] <Shiral> Richelle Haldane sends you greetings from Meara,KK
[08:04.13] <DesertRose> I have no food allergies, though I sometimes claim a shellfish allergy to get out of eating something I hate.  :)
[08:04.19] <Shiral> LOL
[08:04.22] <cynicalmedic> We made divinity once, and my dad used to make black walnut taffy.
[08:04.24] <Jemler> send ma some dr!
[08:04.27] <Evie> My mom made peanut brittle in a cast iron skillet once, not knowing they'd turn out black. So she tried to use food coloring to make them prettier, but all she had was blue, so the next batch of brittle was puke green.
[08:04.32] <Jemler> me some, sorry
[08:04.33] <Evie> she gave up after that
[08:04.35] <DesertRose> Oh no.
[08:04.42] <DesertRose> What, the pralines, Jemler?
[08:04.49] <Jemler> yes.
[08:04.57] <DesertRose> They don't ship well, sadly.
[08:05.16] <Jemler> ok. :(
[08:05.28] <DesertRose> Also, I'm not sure how long they stay unspoiled, because we eat them with the quickness.
[08:05.29] <Shiral> I once tried to make caramel in a frying pan once. but the water boiled off too soon. INstead, I got this crisp, sugary moonscape in the cast iron pan that looked like something the Donner Party would have traveled over.
[08:05.39] <DesertRose> Oh dear, Shiral.
[08:05.50] <Evie> LOL
[08:05.52] <KK> Speaking of food allergies, I can't do raw spinach.  Cooked is fine, but raw reacts disastrously with my digestive system.
[08:05.55] <Shiral> Mom was annoyed, but was laughing too hard to say very much
[08:06.13] <DesertRose> I can't do raw onion anymore.  Cooked onions are fine, but raw onions tear up my tummy.
[08:06.14] <KK> I've never tried to make candy.
[08:06.19] * Shiral makes mental note "No spinach salad for KK"
[08:06.31] <Shiral> I'm a baker, but I stop dead at making candy.
[08:06.43] <Laurna> I made fudge yesterday.  there is still some left
[08:06.46] <Jemler> i prefer spinach raw.
[08:06.53] <DesertRose> My mom always liked to cook, but she got super serious about it after she retired.
[08:06.55] <Shiral> We'll be right over, Laurna!
[08:06.58] <Jerusha> Chocolate fudge, Laurna?
[08:06.59] <Jemler> cauliflower and broccoli rtoo
[08:07.00] <DesertRose> I haven't made fudge in a long time.
[08:07.09] <Evie> KK, DH has the same problem, only he can't eat it cooked either. But if he takes several Beano tablets before eating spinach, he's fine. So he thinks there's some enzyme missing that doesn't let him digest it properly unless he replaces it with the Beano
[08:07.30] <DesertRose> I made it once for my ex-husband (while we were married), and I got to eat two little pieces; he ate the rest of the 13 x 9 pan.
[08:07.30] <Laurna> I was out of chocolate   I am addicted to the stuff
[08:07.38] <Shiral> I'd be just as happy using that as an excuse not to eat spinach =o)
[08:07.39] <cynicalmedic> I used to make candy all the time. The guys at the firehouse loved it.
[08:08.11] <DesertRose> OH, I bet they did, cynicalmedic.  Firefighters and EMS people like to eat.
[08:08.19] <KK> Interesting, Evie.  But raw spinach is easy enough to avoid that I don't think I"ll bother with the Beano.  (And I don't want to test it, in case it doesn't work for me.)
[08:08.22] <Shiral> Did he pay with a mammoth case of indigestion, DR?
[08:08.33] <DesertRose> You know, I don't remember.
[08:08.46] <DesertRose> I just remember being mad at him for not sharing.
[08:08.56] <Jerusha> My grandmother made awesome chocolate fudge.  But she guessed at all of the ingredients, so couldn't really translate it into a recipe I could follow
[08:09.10] <DesertRose> (It was a good 20 years ago.)
[08:09.18] <Shiral> I just know fudge doesn't last very long at my house
[08:09.20] <cynicalmedic> They loved buckeyes - peanut butter balls covered in chocolate, and the oreo truffles always vanished, too.
[08:09.24] <The_Bee> that's cooking by guess and by gorrey
[08:09.45] <Shiral> I don't dare try to make it because that would be as bad an idea for my health as buying an ice cream machine.
[08:09.51] <DesertRose> Oh, don't even give me the recipe for the Oreo truffles.  I love me some Oreos and I will eat them all.
[08:09.59] <Jerusha> She would always leave a bit in the pan for me to salvage
[08:10.18] <Shiral> I love oreos in ice cream, but somehow, not oreos themselves
[08:10.34] <DesertRose> I like Oreos any way I can get them, have since I was a kid.
[08:10.35] <cynicalmedic> Cathedral windoiwa were another favorite, and the easiest candy to make, ever.
[08:10.36] <KK> Ask Evie about me and DQ Mint Oreo Blizzards at Dragoncon!  Yum!
[08:10.41] <Jemler> butter pecan ice cream
[08:10.59] <Shiral> How about those DQ mint oreo blizzards at Dragoncon?  =o)
[08:11.03] <The_Bee> I don't dare let ice cream in my apartment; I've just gotten my weight down to 130.
[08:11.11] <DesertRose> Oh, don't buy the Edy's slow churned butter pecan ice cream.  It's not worth eating, and I don't say that lightly.
[08:11.12] <Evie> LOL! Yes, those are KK's summoning charms
[08:11.37] <Shiral> So all this time, I  just needed to bait the author traps with them??
[08:11.45] <Evie> that's all you need
[08:11.48] <DesertRose> I like butter pecan ice cream, but it has to taste buttery and that doesn't.
[08:11.51] <Evie> I'll supply the DQ bib
[08:11.53] <Evie> :D
[08:11.56] <cynicalmedic> I had the best ice cream a few weeks ago - butter mint. I can only have a kid's scoop, but it was amazing.
[08:11.59] * NavaWazr (Mibbit@OWIRCN-cb677654.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[08:12.02] <DesertRose> hi NavaWazr.
[08:12.05] <Jemler> hi navawazr
[08:12.06] <Evie> hi Nava
[08:12.11] <The_Bee> HI NavaWazr
[08:12.17] <Jerusha> Hi Navawazr
[08:12.20] <NavaWazr> Hi everyone!
[08:12.44] <Shiral> I tell myself I can have an ice cream cone when I'm out and about, but I cannot buy ice cream to store at home in the freezer.
[08:12.52] <Shiral> Hi Navawazr
[08:12.58] * Evie passes some ice cream to NavaWazr
[08:13.08] <DesertRose> cynicalmedic, my youngest brother used to be an EMT and he used to cook for the guys at the station (he's a good cook).  He's also one of those annoying people who can eat all he wants and never gain weight.  Changeling, because nobody else in the family can get away with that.
[08:13.22] <The_Bee> I used to put the half-gallon carton on my lap and eat atraight out of the container.
[08:13.32] * DesertRose sets out sundae toppings, since ice cream is the topic of the moment.  :)
[08:13.48] <Jerusha> Hot fudge....
[08:13.54] <DesertRose> Any sundae topping you want.
[08:13.56] <NavaWazr> thank you Evie (appreciates the virtual ice cream with sugar and no carbs and no calories)
[08:14.02] * Shiral sighs, and makes herself a sundae. =o)
[08:14.07] * The_Bee pours maple syrup on her sundae.
[08:14.07] <cynicalmedic> I used to cook every night, DR. When they found out I was good at it, I was put in charge of meals, and taken off of all the other chores.
[08:14.15] <Jemler> i used to get a chocolate milk shake after lunch every day. 5 days a week. ticked off the women i worked with! :)
[08:14.20] <DesertRose> LOL, yeah, I think that happened to Mark.
[08:14.41] <DesertRose> He doesn't work as an EMT anymore, but he still likes to cook, and he cooks for a small army.
[08:15.16] <Jemler> evie's littles?
[08:15.18] <NavaWazr> hot chocolate is a treat for me and it has to be really wonderful hot chocolate...
[08:15.18] <cynicalmedic> I always tried to make something special for their birthdays, if they were working.
[08:15.25] <Shiral> When I do buy any ice cream, I don't dare bring anything larger than a Hagen Dasz pint home with me.
[08:15.42] <DesertRose> OH yes, NavaWazr, hot chocolate has to be the real thing.  None of this powdered mix mess.
[08:16.01] <NavaWazr>  (add hot fudge, marshmallow topping and whipped cream to my bowl)
[08:16.07] <DesertRose> I do that too, cynicalmedic, cook something special for people's birthdays.
[08:16.12] <Shiral> Still have a bit of the hot chocolate I brought home from Mexico. THAT is good stuff
[08:16.28] <Shiral> Also recently bought a milk frother. Takes it to a whole new level
[08:16.29] <DesertRose> Not that I'm cooking for a crowd anymore, but I used to be one of six in the household, and I was the main cook.
[08:16.36] <DesertRose> Oh, I bet it does, Shiral.
[08:16.42] <Shiral> Nummy!
[08:16.45] <DesertRose> I bet.
[08:17.09] <DesertRose> I don't drink hot chocolate very often, so when I do, it's going to be the good stuff.
[08:17.19] <Shiral> Now I have frothy milk in my coffee every morning. Already spoiled.  Don't think I'd last long in Meara. =o)
[08:17.28] <NavaWazr> I love milk frothers!  I fill my coffee mug with milk, heat in microwave, froth it, then add some coffee for my homemade latte
[08:17.30] <DesertRose> Wrong time of year for it here anyway; far too warm in Florida for cocoa.
[08:17.38] <Evie> lol
[08:17.40] <Shiral> Well yeah =o)
[08:17.51] <Shiral> But definitely the right temp for ice cream
[08:18.00] <DesertRose> But when the weather is cool, hot chocolate, yes please. :)
[08:18.01] <The_Bee> Do you make it with bitter chocolate or sweetened?
[08:18.03] <DesertRose> Oh yes.
[08:18.23] <KK> We used to have a Cold Stone Creamery up in Harrisonburg, but it's gone now. So is the Sweet Frog in Staunton, though we still have those in H'burg and Waynesboro.  Good stuff, that frozen yogurt!
[08:18.42] <DesertRose> Oh, that's sad that you don't have your Cold Stone anymore.  I love that place.
[08:18.44] <Shiral> Navawazr, now I'm wondering how I got on so long WITHOUT frothy milk in my coffee
[08:19.01] <Dennis> Bummer. Cold Stone Creamery is good.
[08:19.14] <DesertRose> Bee, I usually use cocoa powder and cook it on the stove with milk and sugar.
[08:19.24] * Shiral squeezes eyes shut and fights off thoughts of finding the nearest Cold Stone Creamery
[08:19.28] <KK> It was right next to the nail spa where I used to get my pedicures, and sometimes I'd get one and eat it while they worked.
[08:19.33] <Aerlys> OK, back. Minor disaster diverted, and then was on the phone
[08:19.48] <cynicalmedic> We have a place called By the Scoop - their number one seller is Berger Cookie ice cream.
[08:19.49] <DesertRose> The nearest one to me is a good drive, so I can resist the Cold Stone temptation most of the time.
[08:20.04] <DesertRose> Yikes, Aerlys, I hope everything's okay.
[08:20.21] <Aerlys> Oh, it's fine. Every day sort of thind
[08:20.23] <Aerlys> thing
[08:20.24] * The_Bee (~49263b1e@OWIRCN-1bdd9d77.org) Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF))
[08:20.31] <DesertRose> AW, shucks, we lost Bee.
[08:20.36] <Shiral> Oops
[08:20.51] <Laurna> kidlet thing?
[08:20.51] <DesertRose> Yeah, I can imagine that there are a lot of mini-crises in a household as full as yours.  :)
[08:21.06] <Shiral> Fortunately I have made a point of NOT locating my nearest Cold Stone Creamery since I moved
[08:21.22] <DesertRose> :D
[08:21.23] <NavaWazr> (no crises in my household, just lots of clutter and an eventual dinner to make)
[08:21.37] <Laurna> coldston ia\s only two blocks away
[08:21.37] <DesertRose> Yeah, I live alone, NavaWazr, so that's my household too.  :)
[08:21.39] * mib_7lwe88 (Mibbit@OWIRCN-37088b93.ma.comcast.net) has joined channel #Deryni_Destinations
[08:21.45] <DesertRose> Rehi Bee.  :)
[08:21.53] <Jerusha> Rehi, Bee
[08:21.57] * mib_7lwe88 is now known as The_Bee
[08:22.01] <Aerlys> motherhood is not for the faint of heart
[08:22.04] <The_Bee> rehi y'all!
[08:22.05] <DesertRose> No, no it's not.
[08:22.06] <Shiral> I have clean clothes wanting ironing, but I'm ignoring them while working on art projects
[08:22.12] <cynicalmedic> I must go - 0400 shows up quickly, and the laundry doesn't fold itself. Have a great week, all.
[08:22.13] <Shiral> WB, Bee
[08:22.14] <DesertRose> It's an adventure for certain.
[08:22.15] <KK> My nearest one now may be in Charlottesville, and that's over the mountain.  So I'm more apt to do Sweet Frog.  Or, there's a gelato store in downtown Staunton called the Split Banana.  Good gelato, but very rich, and a small portion satisfies.
[08:22.17] <DesertRose> Okay, night, cynicalmedic.
[08:22.22] <Shiral> Bye, CM
[08:22.24] <Aerlys> Now that I'm gonna be a mama of FIVE boys!
[08:22.26] <Shiral> Sleep well
[08:22.34] <Laurna> Good night cm
[08:22.35] <Aerlys> nighters cm
[08:22.35] <Jemler> nite cm
[08:22.44] <The_Bee> bye, CM.
[08:22.46] <Jerusha> Nite, CM
[08:22.48] <Aerlys> I think the boys are easier...
[08:22.53] <KK> Nighters, Aerlys.
[08:23.01] <Laurna> I will say bye too for now.  I have a dinner to go to at my sister's
[08:23.06] <KK> And Cynical Medic.
[08:23.10] <DesertRose> You have more fortitude than I, Aerlys.  I wouldn't have minded one, maybe two more kids, but one is really enough for me.
[08:23.10] <Jemler> nite laurna
[08:23.12] <Shiral> I could give up candy, but never ice cream
[08:23.14] <DesertRose> Night, Laurna
[08:23.15] <Shiral> Night Laurna
[08:23.20] <Evie> My boy was easier
[08:23.24] <Shiral> But I do try to limit my intake
[08:23.26] <Jerusha> 5 boys, three girls, AerlysÉ
[08:23.27] <Laurna> happy mothers day all
[08:23.28] <KK> I'm also out of ehre.  Have to call Cameron back, to get wireless access for my phone.
[08:23.32] <Evie> aside from the alpha male wars
[08:23.34] <Shiral> Night, KK
[08:23.37] <DesertRose> Okay, see you next week, KK?
[08:23.39] * Laurna (Mibbit@OWIRCN-b94a57fc.res.rr.com) has left #Deryni_Destinations ()
[08:23.40] <KK> See you guys next week.
[08:23.40] <Aerlys> It's something you get used to gradually, kinda like boiling a frog
[08:23.42] <Shiral> Have a good wek and good luck with the tree cats
[08:23.43] <Jemler> nite kk. happy mothers day.
[08:23.45] <Jerusha> Have a good week, KK
[08:23.48] <The_Bee> bye, KK and all departing chatters
[08:23.51] <DesertRose> Okay, have a good week, KK.  Nighters!
[08:23.53] <Evie> LOL Aerlys
[08:24.01] <DesertRose> LOL Aerlys.
[08:24.10] <Shiral> Week, I mean
[08:24.12] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[08:24.14] <Shiral> Darn rented fingers
[08:24.19] <Aerlys> nighters KK
[08:24.25] <Jemler> did you do that to kermit, or jeremiah?
[08:24.31] <KK> Nighters.
[08:24.36] <Evie> Bye KK
[08:24.38] * KK Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
