Oh, what fun.  My stepfather has to have them on a regular basis due to Crohn's disease, and I will have to have my baseline younger than most people (45 instead of 50) because my paternal grandmother died of colon cancer.

If it's any comfort, Elkhound, my parents say the prep is the worst part of it.  The actual procedure is apparently really simple and quick.

Best wishes for a clean bill of health after the procedure.

Yes, if yours is like mine, you will be under such heavy sedation (technically not unconscious, but you might as well be) that you won't remember much, if anything, about the actual procedure.  From my point of view, it seemed to take only a minute or two at most, although I suspect it actually took longer.  It was like I was sound asleep and only vaguely aware that something was happening, but I didn't really care.  Then next thing I knew, it was over and I was opening my eyes. ;D   I hope you've got someone to drive you home afterwards.  If not, you may need to remain at the hospital for a while until the sedative wears off, since it leaves you quite groggy.  I seem to recall taking a looooong nap once I got home.

The prep and the anticipation are the worst part.  And thanks to good drugs, you won't notice the actual procedure hardly at all.  Good luck!

Be good to yourself for the next few days. Tell Rupert to give you a warm cuddle.

The procedure went smoothly.  The only problem was that my feet stuck out from the end of the bed (6'1"), but they put an extra blanket over them.  The anesthesia hit me hard--I was completely out.

My escort came and took me home, and I promptly went to bed.  Woke up, got myself something to eat, watched some TV, then went to bed.  This AM I was feeling still groggy and out of it, so I called in and went back to bed.  Feeling better now.

I didn't think about height being a problem, LOL.  My mother is about 5'7" and my stepdad is about 5"10" or so, so that wasn't much of an issue for either of them.

I'm glad the procedure went smoothly, and I bet it felt good to eat real food afterward.  That whole no-solid-food thing can really suck.  (I've had a couple of abdominal surgeries and had to do the liquid diet thing a few times.)

I hope the results are good.  :)

Elkhound,  It is good that you took the day off and were able to get a bit more sleep. I hope the rest of your day will be a nice day off.

On the Friday I woke up with a bad gout attack.  My foot was so swollen that getting a shoe on would have been problematic.  I called in again.

I've been OK since.
