Rotator Cuff Surgery (DH)
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:16:22 PM »
We are travelling south tomorrow to the Toronto area so DH can have his rotator cuff repaired.  Very similar to the issues Evie was having a while back, but surgery is required in this case to repair the damage.  Hopefully the weather cooperates and we don't run into snow squalls.

The surgeon is excellent and all should go well, but a kind thought or prayer for DH would be appreciated.

I might be late for chat the next couple of weeks.  DH usually takes care of the Sunday dishes so I can chat, but now that his arm will be in a sling for at least four weeks, I have the kitchen duties back again.  I'll check in when I can.

Ouch!  My stepdad tore his rotator cuff a few years ago and had to have surgery to repair it, too.  I will be keeping your DH in my thoughts, Jerusha.  Healing thoughts to him and calming thoughts to you.

I'll definitely pray for your DH!  My shoulder still isn't completely normal, but by the time my tear was diagnosed and a surgery scheduled, it was already well on its way to healing on its own, so surgery at that point would just have prolonged the recovery time. But hopefully your hubby will have an easier time with his shoulder issues than I did. (Having competent care probably would have helped....  :D )

Back home again.  The surgery was successful, but more had to be done than expected.  Now DH will be in a sling for 6 weeks instead of 4.  Having waited with him before surgery, during surgery, and after surgery, I don't think I ever want surgery!  Too many pointy needles, but the nurses were very good.

The drive back home through the snow belt was safe but tense - lake effect snow can be very dense.  (That could be a nursery rhyme) Now we just have to wait through all the healing.  Should I mention the DH is not the patient type  :o

That must have been a very long two days. Jerusha, I am so glad your DH can now be on the mend, and that you made it home safe. Six weeks may seem long but at this time of the year it will go fast. Why don't you give him some Deryni to read.  ;D

Three days in a sling and DH is already bored.  Fortunately, he is a big fan of the Bernard Cornwell Angle-Saxon series of books, and we bought him the most recent before the surgery.

I'm holding the Deryni series in reserve - I think we will need it.   ;)

I'm glad to hear that the surgery was a success, and I'm sorry you're dealing with a grouchy and impatient injured DH.  Hoping for a swift recovery, but I'd bet I'm not hoping half as hard as he is, LOL.  :)
