Interesting that the would-be kidnapper had realised Jana might be Deryni.  The question is:  did he have a chance to tell anyone else about this, or did that interesting bit of information die with him?   

And he obviously had no idea of what Deryni are capable of doing, otherwise he would have known she was quite old enough to mindcall for help.
