Boston Marathon bombings
« on: April 15, 2013, 07:19:58 PM »
My prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured today in the horrific attacks at the Boston Marathon this afternoon.  May those responsible are found quickly and are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
We will never forget the events of 9-11!!  USA!! USA!!

Definitely.  And I'm so thankful that there were so many medics already close at hand when the bombs went off, even though I know they were originally stationed there for the more usual medical needs associated with a marathon!  Still, I wonder if being able to get trained emergency personnel to the injured and get them to hospital right away made a difference in terms of a much lower casualty count than there might have been if the attack had been on some other sort of event?

I agree with and second all you've said, DF.

Is the world going completely crazy?   :'( So many terrible things keep happening.

The fact that the bombers happen to be Muslim will bring the troglodytes out of their caves.

Can't help thinking that KK's descriptions of how the excesses of a few get blamed on the whole of a race/ religion is sadly still all too true in our world
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I wonder if the little [insert word I won't use] will use this as a mitigating circumstance?  "We knew there'd be lots of medical people there, which is why we planned to do it then to minimize casualties."  If he does, I don't think it will work.

If he wriggles out of the Federal charges on some technicality, Massachusetts will be able to get him; if he beats the Massachusetts rap, there is evidence that he and his brother bought the explosives in New Hampshire, so NH can get him for conspiracy.  And, if any of the victims was not a US citizen and comes from a country with a long-arm statute, that country can request extradition. (The US doesn't normally do that in such cases, but I think we'd make an exception.)

That assumes, of course, that he survives to trial and doesn't have an "accident" while in custody.

Grump! I hope the eventual jury doesn't take the bait on that ploy.  It's NOT very mitigating at all, to my way of thinking. The medical people could  easily have been among the wounded for one thing. And there would have been NO casualties at all if they hadn't made and detonated those bombs. It's like saying  "We robbed the bank next to the police station, so the money wouldn' t have gone very far."
