OtherIn addition to the Deryni series Katherine Kurtz has written several “cryptohistory” novels which explore the real story behind the known historical version, and one science fiction novel, The Legacy of Lehr. The first of these, Lammas Night, explores the magic working behind the scenes during World War II and introduces Sir John Graham, an adept in a tradition different from either the Deryni arts or Adam Sinclair’s magic. Graham reappears in the later Adept books and in one of the Adept short stories, "Obligations", in the Templar Series. ( The planned Adept VI will probably encompass Lammas Night II and tell the story of Graham’s workings with Phillippa Sinclair, Adam’s mother, during the later years of World War II.) This thriller combines the magic found in Katherine’s other works with a fascinating look at real world history. It’s difficult to find the line between fiction and reality and impossible to put this book down. Lammas Night Message Boards
Similarly, Two Crowns for America explores the magic behind the birth of the United States. The book integrates Freemasonry, a Jacobite plot to place Charles Edward Stuart on the American throne, and the well-documented facts surrounding George Washington (who like Ben Franklin really was a Mason) and his men’s fight for freedom. As in Lammas Night, the magic feels real and the line between fiction and history blurs. Two Crowns for America Message Boards
The Legacy of Lehr is a science fiction mystery about blue cats with psychic powers implicated in a series of murders aboard the luxury space cruiser Valkyrie. Mather Seton and Wallis Hamilton, a married couple managing the cats’ trip, must work to prove their feline friends’ innocence. This exciting, fast-paced novel marks Katherine’s first, and so far only, foray into Science Fiction. The Legacy of Lehr Message Boards
In St. Patrick's Gargoyle, Dublin's St. Patrick's Cathedral becomes the target of an act of vandalism, and the gargoyle guardian of the building enlists the aid of an aging Knight of Malta to assist him in his pursuit of the vandals. Combining an interest in Irish history with snatches of Templar lore, the author of the Deryni and Adept series creates a story of angelic powers and demonic forces locked in an eternal struggle. Engaging characters and gentle irony add a light touch to a metaphysical drama that belongs in most fantasy collections. St. Patrick's Gargoyle Message Boards
