Title: Prayers for my DH and me
Post by: revanne on January 27, 2019, 02:37:06 pm
I haven't given up on the Castle but things have been quite difficult of late. After a long period of gradual decline my DH's cognitive abilities took a nose dive for the worse in the middle of last year and have continued to worsen. We have eventually managed to get an assessment which has confirmed he has some form of dementia and we are just waiting for a brain scan to see what is going on, and then hopefully medication to slow the progress of this horrible disease.
Obviously this is not easy with the demands of ministry but on the other hand being part of an extremely supportive church community is a great help, as is the support of our children and wider family. DH is 72 which doesn't really count as early onset but is not really any age these days.
My thanks go to the other members of the GOTP game for their understanding as my energies are all taken up with finding new ways of managing - I am hoping that I can return to a fuller part before too long.

Simple words are hard to express how much I want to give you my support in this stressful situation. I am hoping that a medical answer well come soon and that your husband's well-being will be improved and  become stable. I am so glad that you have family and pastoral support. Know that we keep you in our hearts, even as we continue to keep Father Columcil in the game. My hope is that as he progresses through the story (with your permission, of course) that where he goes will give you a smile. And please feel free to jump in anywhere that you feel an idea coming on.

I will miss chat today. I hope to catch you at another time soon for some light-hearted chatting.

My thoughts are with you, DH and family in this stressful and difficult time.  As Laurna wrote, hopefully medication will help to arrest the progression and give you all some peace of mind.

And thanks for letting Father Columcil continue on our adventure.  We'll do our best to keep him out of trouble.   ;)

Tough times, Revanne. We miss you, but it's never easy to be the caretaker for a Dementia patient.  Do what is most important for your well-being and state of mind.

Holding you and your family in my arm for comfort and in my prayers for better news. I hope the nurse had some help for you. I know how difficult the  caregiver role is, especially  in cases like this Take time for yourself. We will all do our best for Columcil until you can return.

So we have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's which is hard to hear but really a relief. The form of Alzheimer's DH has means that there is medication, which will not reverse the problem but hopefully slow down the progress. So he has started on that - we have already started developing strategies. There is a lot of support out there, and we are blessed with an amazing family, friends and a supportive church community. Hopefully my creative juices will start flowing again soon.

Good news, revanne, that you now have a diagnosis and medication is available to help. And it's good to have support from so many sources.   We look forward to the return of your creative juices - when you are ready and things are under control.

Will be thinking of you & your family revanne. Glad it is of the form where medication will help.
