Title: RIP Scott MacMillan
Post by: Bynw on February 25, 2019, 02:26:31 pm

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Scott MacMillan early this morning. Other than the information we have in the prayer thread of his sudden illness not much else is known.

Scott will be greatly missed. Not only by his loving wife and son. But also by the many friends and acquaintances he and his life had touched over years across a broad spectrum of interests.

He was an author, a herald, military officer, a dedicated husband and father. He was so much to so many. I really can't list everything here.

I remember fondly the times I got to chat with him at conventions. He had a great sense of humor and was an incredible individual. I fear the world is a bit dimmer place now without Scott's presence.

But I will hold him in my memory forever. After all he was born on March 9th, like I was, just many years apart.

RIP Scott

Farewell and RIP, Scott. I hope you get to drive some amazing vintage cars in the next life, and that there's a wee dram of your favorite whiskey  available whenever you need one.  You will be sadly missed.

Much sympathy and love to Katherine and Cameron  and Anna, and all Scott's family and friends.

Bynw, thank you so very much for sharing.

I love the two photos of Scott offered there. Very nice.
And I love one persons comment- "I will forever remember the time spent as a guest at his home. A better host you’d never find."
That says it all.

Such wonderful tributes! Thanks for sharing that, Bynw. I only met Scott a few times when I was hanging around with KK at Dragon*Con, usually if she needed to go up to their hotel room for something, but I remember him being a gracious host, happy to engage one of his wife's fans in conversation if he happened to have a few minutes to spare between the various events he was at the Con to enjoy and participate in.

I never knew what Scott looked like either.  Now I know why he was described as "dashing" in KK's biographical details.  And it sounds like he was as kind and gracious as he was handsome.  Continuing to hold KK, Cameron, Anna, and the others who loved Scott up.

*** MESSAGE FROM KATHERINE ***

Dear Ones,

Many, many thanks to all of you who have sent me such heart-warming
tributes and reactions to Scott's passing.  I am still processing it
all, of course, but your words have been a great comfort at this
unexpected and difficult time.  He was much loved and much loving.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the
Shenandoah, c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville,
VA 22939, where Scott and our family received such loving care in the
days before his passing.  Flowers die, but the wonderful work of the
hospice staff is an enduring blessing for all who are called to this
service.  It takes very special people, and we honor and thank them.

Even at the grave, we make our song:  Alleluia!

+Katherine

Katherine also says this in a separate email to me, "Overwhelmed with stuff to do, but hanging in there.  Sorry I couldn't make it to chat tonight." I think, under the circumstances, missing chat is quite understandable!

For general forum-member information, we (the mod/admin team) are working on a way to process donations in Scott's memory to the hospice made online rather than via postal mail, so please stand by on that matter.

Katherine also says this in a separate email to me, "Overwhelmed with stuff to do, but hanging in there.  Sorry I couldn't make it to chat tonight." I think, under the circumstances, missing chat is quite understandable!

Indeed.  :(

Thank you Bywn and Evie for forwarding KK's messages to us. I would be interested in online information for the Hospice of the Shenandoah, thank you DesertRose.
I think that Scott's memorial service on his birthday is good in the sense of celebration of a good life lived. but it will be very hard on the people closest to him. My heart goes out to his family.

Donations in Scott's memory can also be made at this site:  https://augustahealth.thankyou4caring.org/?fund=31  Under the area where one would enter the amount they wish to donate, the designation to Hospice is selected by default.  If you scroll down that page, under the fields for entering the information for billing/payment of the donation, there is a section labeled "Tribute Information."  There is a drop-down menu with the options "in honor of" and "in memory of", and then fields for entering the first and last names of the person in whose memory the donation is being made.

Below that, there is a tick/check box labeled "Mail a letter on my behalf to," which, when checked, opens a series of fields for a postal mailing address.

Per Katherine's publisher (Penguin/Random House), mail sent to the following address will be forwarded to her.

Thank you for setting this up, DR.  Much appreciated.

You are most welcome.  When I found that the Hospice of the Shenandoah had an online donation option (after @Bynw passed on the message from Katherine that she would like donations in Scott's memory directed to that organization), I figured that would be useful information for the citizens of Rhemuth Castle, since we are scattered all over the world.

Please forward my deepest condolences to his family. I first met Scott in the 1970s, when he was in the CSMR with my late father. We reconnected on the internet, and over the past few years me perhaps three of four times in LA and VA. I am currently writing a book on a topic we had long discussed, and I am very sorry he shall not be around to see it published - he shall certainly be one of the dedicandi. God rest and keep him and his.

@DerynifanK it's right below the text in my post. if you don't see a thumbnail of it. you will see a paperclip icon indicating there is an attachment to the post and "scottmacmillan.png" which is the name of the file and file type. In this case a PNG image file.

In case attachments aren't behaving for some users (some computers are cranky about opening attachments from the forum, so @DerynifanK , I'm not singling you out; this is a bug we've known about for a while), I have posted @JastaElf 's lovely tribute to the Gallery under Herself, because while it isn't a photo of KK herself, it also doesn't really fit into any of the other gallery categories.

Since @Bynw created a gallery for Scott, I moved that photo to Scott's gallery; the link above still works, even though the photo is now under Scott rather than under Herself.
