In spite of her nasty review of KK, I admired her writing.

The Prof. Kroeber who worked with Ishi was her father.  I don't know if she ever met him--she would have been a very little girl--but doubtless she heard stories about him.  So often a person separated from his/her native culture trying to make his/her way in a world where nothing makes sense appears in her works that there must have been some influence.

Yes, interpersonal whatever aside, LeGuin wrote some wonderful work and was hugely influential.  May her loved ones find peace.
