Title: Requiescat in Pacem, Kirienne
Post by: Shiral on April 02, 2014, 04:24:53 pm
https://www.facebook.com/geri.kittrell

Dear Friends,
I'm very sorry to report that  our Kirienne has passed away today. Her sister posted the news to her facebook page two hours ago. I've only just seen it. I don't know the details, except that Kirienne/Geri was feeling very poorly last week and was admitted to the hospital. As her sister Carole puts it, "She has passed to the white shores of a far green country."

Alas, we've lost another member of our community to Cancer.

I just saw on Facebook myself, and I was coming here to post something.

May the wind be at your back, Kirienne!   :'(

Tears dampen my cheeks for the loss of a lady who seemed always positive and helpful.

Kirienne, you will be missed.

God saw as you were getting tired
A cure was not to be
So he wrapped His arms around you
And whispered 'Come with Me.'

A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands laid to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

OMG no. :(

Too stunned at the suddenness to write anything more coherent right now.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon her.

She is now inside all of the stories which open our hearts and minds to that which is beyond...

This is terrible news; I had so hoped she would beat this monster.

My sympathies to her family - she will be truly and deeply missed.

Like Annie,  I'm stunned by the suddenness.  Kirienne was a delight.  I will truly miss her.

Kirienne, I never had the privilege of meeting you in person, but your laughter, enthusiasm, and joie de vivre made your posts on the Rhemuth Castle forum a true delight! Although I am glad you are finally free of pain and that you've gone on to your Easter morning early, I am also heartbroken because the world has lost an amazing light.

You had such a love of these two Mini-Deryni lads, especially Duke Alaric, so they took a moment to light a candle for you this morning.

I look forward to meeting you at last some bright morning in that far green country at the end of the world where there are no more tears.

Also, thank you for all of your encouraging comments on my stories.  They meant the world to me!

I just sent a message to Kirienne's sister via Facebook to ask if there is some place where flowers or charitable donations could be sent, and received this reply:

Quote
Oh thank you so much....she always told me if she had more money she would have loved to donate a lot to St Jude's Children's Hospital so that is where we are asking donations be sent in her name in lieu of flowers. I know she loved Deryni novels and loved her Sunday chats...she hated to miss them.

So here is a link to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital donation webpage:
https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671 (https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671)

ETA:  Oops, hit a snag!  In order to donate via the website, it's set up so that you have to enter either an email address or mailing address for Kirienne / Geri Kittrell so that they can send her family a memorial card, and there doesn't seem to be a way to bypass this step.  I don't have either of those addresses.  But the site does list a number for phone-in donations, so that might be a way to get around that step.  Or if someone else has that contact information, maybe it would be OK to share that?  Maybe not in the main thread due to privacy issues, but perhaps by private message, if someone else has that information and is willing to share?

OK, I have permission from Kirienne's sister Carole to post this address to use if you want to donate anything to St. Jude's in Kirienne's name.   A memorial card will be sent to the family at this email address.

clogan59 @ yahoo.com  (I added spaces around the @ symbol in an attempt to keep the spambots away; please modify accordingly.)

Reminder, Kirienne's real name was Geri Kittrell.  Her sister is Carole Logan.

Wow, when Alaric Morgan lights a candle, he really means it!

Farewell Kirienne, we're all going to miss you very much. I had hoped your cancer battle would end with you as the victor. The only comfort is that you won't have to endure the physical miseries of chemotherapy and radiation.  But  it happened far too soon.

Yes, Shiral, Mini-Alaric says it's a big candle in memory of a bright light extinguished too soon.

Here's the tribute photo the way I originally envisioned it in my mind, but didn't have time to set up properly when I was rushing out the door this morning:

Can someone e-mail KK so she does not have to discover this sad news in the Sunday chat.

And thanks Evie, I feel the image of Alaric and Duncan with the lighted candle are a nice touch.

I already spoke with her yesterday morning to let her know.  She was on the road, so not where she could check the forum or Facebook, but hopefully she'll be home by the time Sunday chat comes around.

ETA:  Re the updated photo, that's how I originally envisioned it looking, but when I shot the photo the first time around, I only had a minute or two to pose the figures and take a few hurried shots because I was running late for work.  Once I got home, I figured out how to set it up properly so that the photo would turn out the way I had imagined it to begin with.  The candle was lit in both photos, but the flash completely drowned it out the first time around.  Live and learn!

The last i was really able to check posts was late Wednesday night, and for some reason this thread didn't show up. (Though I was using the connection at the hospital...on my Kindle...so I don't know if that made a difference.)

Although I am still fairly new to the boards, I am truly saddened by the news. Kirienne was always such a bright light on the forum. She will be sorely missed. Our prayers go out for her and her family.

Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine, er lux perpetua luceat ei.

Kirienne, may you truly be in a place of refreshment, light and peace.

I have no intention of hijacking this thread. But since I've received a message of concern, I should probably explain that I was at the ER with my son, who suffered an eye injury and is recovering just fine.

Thanks to those who asked if we were OK. You guys are so sweet!
