I read the first trilogy at the time of first publication and enjoyed them immensely.  I read all subsequent trilogies until Childe Morgan.  I don't really understand why I stopped.  But I read King's Deryni and my interest reignited.

I was somewhat reluctant to add blog 3 to my regular routine.  TOR.c (since 2000) and Baen's Bar (1632 and Vorkosigan Saga) keep me occupied.  I first read LotR when I was 16.  Other book series I've enjoyed are Outlander, Earth's Children, Lord Peter Wimsey, Brother Cadfael, Tony Hillerman's Navajo mysteries, Sister Fidelma, et al.  But I'm glad that I'm starting to follow things a bit here.

I'm 61, on disability.  I attended both the University of Michigan and Kent State, graduating from the latter with a B.A. in History.  I've also pursued, but not completed, majors in Linguistics ( for me, like JRRT, historical linguistics/philology is my particular interest) and Computer Science. I've pursued, rather successfully, my ancestry, in a few lines back to the 1500s, mostly to Germany and to a lesser degree, Switzerland.  For 20 years I was active in a university based community theater.  I've been an actor, an associate director, and a dramaturg.  For eight of those years I participated in several ways on annual productions of Israel Horowitz's Scrooge and Marley. I studied  French for four weeks at the Université de Neuchâtel .  I formally studied French for six years, Spanish for four.  I can read a German passably well.

I'm a Quaker (Religious Society of Friends-Friends General Congerence).  I've been a convinced a Friend since I was 20 years old.

I guess the rest will reveal itself over time.

So, HELLO EVERYBODY!!!

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

Welcome fellow Brother Cadfael fan!
From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night...good Lord deliver us!

Yes, welcome! I like several of the same series, but especially the Vorkosigan books. Lois Bujold is my other favorite modern SF/fantasy author, so it's nice to meet someone else who enjoys her work.
