[19:03] <DF64> tales of the soulcatcher
[19:03] <jemler> KK!
[19:03] <Evie_> Hi, KK
[19:03] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello KK.
[19:04] <DF64> evie gets her wish
[19:04] * Evie_ squees
[19:04] <BalanceTheEnergies> Not just her wish. Mine too.
[19:04] <jemler> and silence......
[19:04] <DF64> our queen has arrived
[19:04] <Evie_> KK, hubby wants to know if there's any chance you'll be at SCA Gulf Wars this year?
[19:05] <KK> Hi, guys.  (Had to go and close the door--twice--so that the dogs wouldn't let all the heat out.
[19:05] <Evie_> LOL! And on cue, as soon as KK shows up, so does Luke.  I swear it's magic.
[19:05] <KK> No Gulf Wars.  Haven't done SCA seriously for years.
[19:06] <DF64> "Have to believe there is Magic"
[19:06] <Evie_> How's CM3 coming along?
[19:06] <BalanceTheEnergies>
[19:06] <KK> Next weekend, though, I will be p at a local con in Harrisonburg, VA and, I'm told, am on a panel about historical recreation--i.e., SCA.
[19:06] <Evie_> oh, cool
[19:06] <Kelric> kk!
[19:06] <KK> It's coming along.  I'm about to off Morian.
[19:06] <Evie_> noooooooooooooo....
[19:07] <jemler> so you aren't going to be here next week?
[19:07] * Shiral has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:07] <jemler>  shiral
[19:07] <Shiral> Peek a boo
[19:07] <BalanceTheEnergies> hello Shiral
[19:07] <KK> I should be here.  Don't plan to stay past mid-afternoon on Sunday.
[19:08] <Shiral> Hello all
[19:08] * Evie_ waves at Shiral
[19:08] <KK> Hi, Shiral.
[19:09] * Shiral waves back, then sets the Tea Table
[19:09] <Shiral> Hi Katherine
[19:09] * Kelric throws a pokeball at Shiral
[19:09] <BalanceTheEnergies> Earl Grey, I hope?
[19:09] * Shiral tosses it back
[19:09] <Kelric> mmm.
[19:09] <DF64> 10and hot
[19:09] <Kelric> good choice for a cuppa tea
[19:09] * Kelric goes to turn on the hot water pot we have.
[19:09] * Evie_ pours herself a cup of Earl Grey, sweetens it, and adds a touch of milk
[19:09] <BalanceTheEnergies> 'Tis my favourite.
[19:09] <Shiral> It's a magic teapot. Whatever tea each person likes most will come out of the spout
[19:10] <KK> Earl Grey is definitely the tea of choice.  My favorite brand is Republic of Tea.
[19:10] * Shiral likes Scottish Breakfast
[19:10] <KK> It's called Earl Greyer.
[19:10] <Evie_> any news about the film yet?
[19:10] <jemler> Manhattan Iced Tea?
[19:10] <KK> Nope.
[19:10] <Evie_> drat
[19:10] <Shiral> As in  "My Earl is Greyer than yours!"
[19:10] <Evie_> I like Earl Grey Lavender
[19:10] <DF64> 10and better tasting?
[19:11] <KK> I guess.  I think it has more bergamot than usual.
[19:11] <Shiral> Jemler, that's up to you, but please drink responsibly. Wouldn't want you to run over anyone while intoxicated!
[19:11] <BalanceTheEnergies> I saw the Oscars revived the castin thread on the message boards. Mr. Firth has some support for the rols of Thomas Cardiel
[19:11] <Shiral> Been wondering.... Is the Torenthi drink Darja kind of like Jasmine Tea in this universe?
[19:11] <Evie_> Mr. Firth could probably pull off most roles short of Kelson or Charissa.
[19:12] <Shiral> Oh, I think he'd be wasted as Jehana, though!
[19:12] <KK> Not a big enough part for him in this film.  I read this morning that he's doing a Dracula film next.
[19:12] <Shiral> But Helena Bonham Carter could do a nice job on that part
[19:12] <DF64> 10as Charissa
[19:12] <Evie_> *mind boggles at thought of HBC as Jehana
[19:13] <Evie_> Oh, OK, that I can see
[19:13] <Evie_> sort of
[19:13] <KK> Maybe.  It's good to have seen her in a serious part; shows that she can do it.
[19:13] <Evie_> yes, I was impressed by her in The King's Speech
[19:13] <KK> Queen Mum, that is.
[19:13] <BalanceTheEnergies> I don't know. I'd like to see the contours of his face do the human wonderment thing, yet he could still have the spine to lead the schism. Was watching him in Valmont the other day.
[19:13] <jemler> She can't. she's supposed to die at the end of Harty Potter!
[19:14] <KK> Well, Cardiel isn't really in the first book.  Later, though....
[19:14] <jemler> blasted kbd again.
[19:14] <Shiral> We'll dust her off and resucitate her, Jemler
[19:14] <Shiral> Need someone good for Arilan...
[19:14] <Evie_> yes
[19:14] <BalanceTheEnergies> Very true. Depending on how the shooting is scheduled, many things are possible.
[19:15] <jemler> i'd rather do Hermione, or Jenny, or even Luna!
[19:15] * the_Bee has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:15] <BalanceTheEnergies> Paul Giamatti or Patrick Malahide for Arilan.
[19:15] <jemler> hi bee
[19:15] <Evie_> hi Bee
[19:15] <KK> Hi, Bee.
[19:15] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello Bee
[19:15] * Shiral would ask how the writing is going, but thinks maybe I'll wait for the chat transcript
[19:15] <the_Bee> hi jemler and evie
[19:16] <Shiral> Hi Bee
[19:16] <KK> It's giong.
[19:16] <DF64> 10hi bee
[19:16] <KK> going, too.
[19:16] <Shiral> Giong is good? =o)
[19:16] <Kelric> oh my.  only one earl gray teabag left after this one.
[19:16] <Evie_> she's killing again, Shiral.  Are we surprised?
[19:16] <Shiral> NOpe
[19:16] <the_Bee> hi shiral and DF64 and KK
[19:16] <Shiral> You're a fine one to talk, Evie =o)

[19:17] <Evie_> I'm just emulating the God Empress of Gwynedd, Shiral.
[19:17] <the_Bee> HI DR
[19:17] <Evie_> Hi, DR
[19:17] <DesertRose> Hey y'all.  Hi KK
[19:17] <Shiral> But when KK starts killing, the good guys better hide under the tables
[19:17] <Shiral> Make sure they're warded
[19:18] <DF64> 10very well warded
[19:18] <jemler> Makahide is in his 60's. A Little old for Arilan
[19:18] <Evie_> who is only in his late 30s in DR
[19:18] <DesertRose> Okay, got here a little late and now I have to leave for supper.
[19:18] <Shiral> Spackle 'em with enough makeup and they can do amazing things in films
[19:18] * DesertRose is now known as DR_supper
[19:19] <BalanceTheEnergies> Not if the ages are advanced. And I'm sure Mr. Giamatti would do well, on the strength of his work in The Illusionist.
[19:19] <Evie_> Kelson's age is only advanced by two years, though, not a full generation
[19:19] <Shiral> Giamatti.... Arilan needs to be taller than him! (ANd er.... better looking!) Giamatti might be a good Patrick Corrigan, though
[19:20] <BalanceTheEnergies> True, but I think there's a generational difference between Arilan and Morgan & Duncan. And don't forget the technology also advances.
[19:21] <Shiral> No, not really. It's a decade, and not even QUITE a decade.  Morgan has just turned 29 in DR
[19:21] <Evie_> There's about 5 to 7 years between Morgan and Arilan.
[19:21] <the_Bee> Where does it say Arilan was taller?  All I recal of Corrigan was that he was fat.
[19:21] <Shiral> I just picture him as tall, Bee
[19:22] <DF64> 10Morgan was a young teen when Jorian was burned at the stake
[19:22] <Shiral> But definitely Arilan needs to be studlier, whatever his height
[19:23] <BalanceTheEnergies> Exactly DF. I think the age difference is 7 or 8. most of us concur that Morgan's was the boy's voice that cried out from the crowd at the burning. Morgan would be 13 (just before the battle with the Marluk) and Arilan 20 or 21.
[19:24] <Shiral> I'm wondering how Alaric managed to get away from Arx Fidei alive, after that.....
[19:24] <Evie_> Arilan seems older because he's had to grow up in a generation where he couldn't live openly because that could mean his death.  he's not a curmudgeon due to being old
[19:24] <BalanceTheEnergies> Sorry Shiral. I think the capacity for hiding yet expressing his feelings, and for behind the scenes manuevering is more important. Hence my choices.
[19:25] <DF64> 10after he yelled out, the crowd just went silent as jorian burned.  No one must have tried to find out who cried out
[19:25] <the_Bee> Arilan was born 1083, Morgan 1091--codex.
[19:25] <Evie_> all that is fine, BTE, but surely there are younger actors who could get across the same things with equal talent?
[19:26] <Shiral> And KK herself describes Arilan as quite good looking... which does not preclude his being a very deep, complicated person
[19:26] <Evie_> Oh, I'm sure those around Alaric had to have known it was him, but he was speaking irrefutable truth, so who could argue with it?
[19:27] <BalanceTheEnergies> Exactly, Evie. He's had to be in the Deryni closet. he's done his part, and very valuable one, to work behind the scenes and not flaunt his abilities. And he's had the Council secrets. That's part of what underlies his arguments with Duncan after that accolade when Duncan ourts himself.
[19:27] <Evie_> yes
[19:28] <Evie_> to me, though, it actually underscores his point that he's only less than a decade older. if he were 20 years older than Duncan, that could come off to a film viewer as "Oh, he's just being a grumpy old man," but he's got valid points that he's making and the audience should see that (if/when that film comes).
[19:29] <jemler> KK, I had a question earlier.
[19:29] <Evie_> and having them closer to the same age makes it more obvious that it's two peers with very different viewpoints and not an older generation thinking it knows better than a younger one
[19:30] <KK> Go, Jemler.
[19:30] <BalanceTheEnergies> Actually Shiral, Morgan has a talent for a game that's often called 'grandmother's footsteps" or "red light, green light".  I can see some bishop insisting to Brion that Morgan wath the spectacle to remind him of his place, and Brion persuading Morgan because he doesn't want to lose him. Morgan then escapes his handlers long enough to make the outcry.
[19:30] * Shiral drops pin
[19:30] <Shiral> CLANG!
[19:31] <BalanceTheEnergies> Surely Duncan's vocation has manifested to both boys by then.
[19:31] <KK> Of course, it ight not have been Alaric who cried out....  :-_
[19:31] <jemler> I was wondering if the RPG was considered canon?
[19:32] <BalanceTheEnergies> Remember what Morgan did to that fellow's whip in DR?
[19:32] <jemler> tangled it in the horse's legs
[19:33] * Evie_ perks up at jemler's question, since she uses the RPG as a fanfic writing resource
[19:34] <KK> If stuff in the RPG disagrees with the rest of the canon, that would have been the designers' call.  I'm told that some things needed to be tweaked to make the game work.  But then, I'm not really a gamer.

[19:34] <fudgebob> good morning
[19:34] <jemler> hi fudgebob.
[19:34] <BalanceTheEnergies> Oh dear. cue the crickets.
[19:34] * Evie_ waves at fb
[19:34] <fudgebob> O.o
[19:34] <the_Bee> hi fudgebob
[19:34] * Alkari has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:34] <fudgebob> Am I the cricket-bearer?
[19:35] <jemler> i was wondering about Portals. How far is the limit to using one? 10 miles. 100?
[19:35] <jemler> wb alkari
[19:35] <KK> Depends on the Portal and the practitioner.
[19:35] <the_Bee> WB Alkari
[19:35] <Evie_> from the Ile d'Orsal to Rhemuth is a lot longer than 10 miles on any map, jemler.
[19:35] <KK> (How's that for an evasive answer that tells you nothing?)
[19:35] <Alkari> Hi everyone.
[19:36] <Evie_> hi Alkari
[19:36] <jemler> lol
[19:36] <KK> What's the story on the crickets?
[19:36] * DR_supper is now known as DesertRose
[19:36] <jemler> wb
[19:36] <DesertRose> ty
[19:37] <Alkari> hi DR
[19:37] <DesertRose> Hiya Alkari.
[19:37] <Evie_> Are you seeing chat now, BTE, or are you still reading silence?  (I had the room go "silent" on me earlier and it was really the chat window crashing)
[19:37] * Shiral has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:38] <Alkari> I am sneaking Chat in while my work computer logs in after weeks away!
[19:38] <BalanceTheEnergies> I didn't mean to scare you all. hello?
[19:38] * Shiral has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:38] <Evie_> hello, BTE
[19:38] <the_Bee> rehi Shiral
[19:38] <jemler> wb
[19:38] <Shiral> Hi, what happened? Everone went quiet
[19:38] <DesertRose> wb Shiral.
[19:38] <Evie_> No, Mibbit is acting up tonight
[19:38] <Shiral> Ah
[19:38] <the_Bee> Your computer is hexed.
[19:38] <DesertRose> I think Mibbit is being wonky for a number of people.
[19:38] <Evie_> Earlier it would 'go silent' even though I was told later that others kept talking, and then I'd crash
[19:39] <Evie_> so I'm on IceChat now
[19:39] * Shiral hands Evie a nice warm cloak
[19:39] <Alkari> So far so good for meon Mibbit.   But I'll be nice to it and won't insult it
[19:39] * Evie_ thanks Shiral and huddles in cloak while sipping hot Earl Grey
[19:39] <Shiral> I did think it strange for EVERYONE to go quiet in the middle of Sunday chat
[19:40] <DesertRose> Yeah, that would be a bit weird.
[19:40] <Shiral> For almost ten minutes
[19:40] <the_Bee> We thought you quit.  I wondered if your boss haad caught you.
[19:40] <BalanceTheEnergies> Shiral, your name is turning red, but I'm getting no comments.  Techinical glitch?
[19:40] <Shiral> I hope not
[19:40] <jemler> well my kbd is acting up. i may have to either clean it or buy a new one.
[19:41] <Shiral> Maybe I'm just turning into a Haldane
[19:41] * BalanceTheEnergies has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:41] <jemler> you must have married Kelson's boy!
[19:41] <the_Bee> I see you the same as anyone else, Shiral.
[19:41] <Shiral> I don't cradle snatch unborn infants.
[19:42] * BalanceTheEnergies has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:42] <Shiral>  More like I had a little rendez-vous with his grandpa
[19:42] <jemler> wb bte
[19:42] <Evie_> what was happening to TBE is what happened to me earlier. I could see people were typing because the names would go red, but no text appeared but my ownn
[19:42] <the_Bee> Actually, he'd be several hundred years old than you.
[19:42] <jemler> eww, Brions been dead for 10 years!
[19:42] <Shiral> So? I like older men =o)
[19:42] * DF64 has quit IRC (Client closed the connection)
[19:42] <jemler> but he's not exactly a live one!
[19:42] <BalanceTheEnergies> hello again all. hope I haven't worn out my welcome, and sorry for the technical difficulties.
[19:43] <Shiral> I'd hope to get acquainted before the decomposition stage
[19:43] <DesertRose> It's okay. I think it's Mibbit.
[19:43] <Evie_> not a problem.  if you have access to another chat program like IceChat (free download), you might find it more stable
[19:43] <KK> We still love you, BTE.
[19:43] <jemler> at least before rigor mortis ended!
[19:43] <Evie_> LOL @ Shiral
[19:43] <BalanceTheEnergies> Thanks KK.
[19:44] <Evie_> jemler, you're a sick and wrong puppy
[19:44] <Shiral> At least we've met Donal. Li'l baby Javan II is still just a potential child
[19:44] <the_Bee> Donal?
[19:44] <jemler> Donal cheated with his best friends wife!
[19:44] <BalanceTheEnergies> ITKS
[19:45] <Shiral> I'm embarrassed to say I saw a child in a commercial who looks very like how I picture Kelric Alain Morgan
[19:45] <KK> But for a good reason.
[19:45] <Shiral> It's a commercial for frozen cheese treats but the little kid in it is adorable
[19:45] <Alkari> It's interesting what lenghts people like Donal would go to though, KK
[19:45] <BalanceTheEnergies> Exactly. He didn't trust his ritual for Brion to paper.
[19:45] <jemler> is there such a thing as a good readon to commit adultery?
[19:45] <Evie_> I ran into a "Kelric" or "Young Alaric" once last year, dressed in medieval garb, even.  Too cute!
[19:45] <Shiral> Donal wasn't a boy scout it's true.  Maybe that's why I like him =o)
[19:46] <Alkari> My question too jemler
[19:46] <the_Bee> Donal convinced himself there was.
[19:46] <Alkari> Jessamy was the one who interested me in all those connivings
[19:46] <jemler> most men can convince themselves of anything if it means a little extra on the side!
[19:46] <KK> He needed a Deryni protector for his son.  Dynastically speaking, that trumps all others.
[19:46] <BalanceTheEnergies> Given the pressing circumstances, perhaps. Donal believed he had to safegurad the transfer ritual is such a fashion. Obviously Brion felt safe to put his on paper.
[19:47] <KK> He sort of put it on paper.  Still needed the right people to figure out what it meant.
[19:47] <Shiral> I thought Jessamy got a raw deal.  In the whole Camberian Council, was there ANYBODY who thought maybe some empathy and understanding for a frightened young girl might help to win her over? Fortunately, she did get some kindness from Dulchese
[19:47] <Alkari> Shame Donal felt he needed to create his "own" Deryni protector
[19:48] <BalanceTheEnergies> Circs were different for Brion, as he had an adult Morgan to look after Kelson
[19:48] <Alkari> Yes Shiral, I felt so sorry for her, esp after reading the Green Tower story
[19:49] <Evie_> I read the Green Tower when my own daughter was that same age.  Ouch.
[19:49] <jemler> you didn't marry her off, did you?
[19:49] <Alkari> The CC so far doesn't seem to interested / worried about protecting young Alaric, either
[19:50] <the_Bee> speaking of the empowering ritual, in DR  Alaric and Duncan told kelson each ceremmony was unique. But most have the same elements, like the clasp of the Crimson piercing the initiate's hand.
[19:50] <Shiral> Your Pardon, KK but there are moments when I want to administer some sharp kicks in the prosterior to various Camberian Councilors! =o)
[19:50] <BalanceTheEnergies> Of course not. He's a half-breed.
[19:50] <KK> For the upper classes, marriages were much more business arrangements; little thought for love.  And in reality, upper class men fooled around a lot more than I've shown in Deyrniland.
[19:50] <BalanceTheEnergies> Yes, Duncan comments that while specifics vary. certain elemnts are common, like the need for bravery.
[19:50] <Alkari> Yes, but elements can be largely the same, but the details differ
[19:50] <KK> Maybe because they were not able to choose their wives for love.
[19:51] <Alkari> And the stepping onto the seal was certainly unique, it seems.
[19:51] <jemler> i just read a story, on yahoo i think, about a 13 yo girl who ran away because her step father arranged a marriage in Pakistan or someplace.
[19:51] <Evie_> I saw that too
[19:51] <KK> It's still done today in some cultures.
[19:52] <jemler> this was in california i think
[19:52] <Shiral> It's not necessarily marriage in specific I'm talking about in Jessamy's case. They still might have married her off early. BUT.... instead of treat her like a potential threat, they might have at least recognized at that moment she was more scared young girl than she was a potential Deryni threat
[19:52] <Evie_> I've known some happily married people in arranged marriages, but all theirs were arranged as adults, and they were consenting parties
[19:52] <KK> And if the girl tries to get out of it, she can be killed in an honor killing.
[19:52] * BalanceTheEnergies has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:52] <the_Bee> The hand-piercing was obviously new to Alaric aand Duncan, since it took them a while to figure it out.
[19:52] <KK> But they do say that arranged marriages often have a better chance of succeeding.
[19:52] <jemler> but this girl wasn't from that culture. neither was her mother.
[19:53] <KK> Ah, but if the father was....
[19:53] <jemler> step father.
[19:53] * BalanceTheEnergies7 has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:53] <BalanceTheEnergies7> Sorry. Browser crash.
[19:53] <the_Bee> Hi BTE7.
[19:53] <Evie_> One reason would be because you don't enter it with unrealistic expectations, so it's easier for love to grow based on reality rather than the marriage being based on infatuation that disappears once reality hits
[19:54] <BalanceTheEnergies7> i don't know why the number is attached, but <shrug>
[19:54] <Shiral> I think the success of an arranged marriage would depend on the wisdom of the arranging people and how well they knew the prospective bride and groom.  I'm not saying it would never work, but I'd run away too, if someone were trying to push me into one
[19:54] <BalanceTheEnergies7> Here, here.
[19:54] * Annie has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:55] <KK> Also, in the day of arranged marriages, women's roles were more closely defined: you married, you provided heirs for your husband, you cared for them and for him.  YOu didn't have a career other than home-maker and helpmeet.
[19:55] <the_Bee> Did mibbit get annie, or midnight?
[19:55] <jemler> she in uk?
[19:56] <BalanceTheEnergies7> Quite so, KK.
[19:56] <Evie_> well, not as a noblewoman, at least.  Middle class and lower might be expected to help in the shop or field as well, and some women (widows expecially) could have a craft or trade
[19:56] <the_Bee> but many jobs now done in shops were then done at home.  And she had to supervise the household staff.
[19:56] <Shiral> Were I a medieval woman, I'd probably acknowledge and abide by all those truths.  But as of 2011, if somebody had an arranged marriage in mind for me, they'd have to catch me, first!
[19:57] <BalanceTheEnergies7> I second that motion, Shiral.
[19:57] <jemler> Do ypu want a head start?
[19:57] <Evie_> and that was a full time job, managing the household, since the wife was working with the servants earlier on, not just directing them
[19:57] <Alkari> eek - seem to have gone quiet.
[19:57] <the_Bee> I had a dream once that I was being married off.  I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to object or not.
[19:58] <KK> Remember, too, that these were the days before manufacturing.  Every single item that one used had to be hand-made.  That takes time and energy.
[19:58] <jemler> who was the groom?
[19:58] <Shiral> And oops, sorry  folks.  No betrothal today. I've gotta go back to employee-land
[19:58] <DesertRose> Okay, Shiral.  Take care.
[19:58] <Evie_> It's not quiet, Alkari...if you can't read this, you have Mibbit problems but don't know it because you can't read this.
[19:58] * Alkari has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:58] <KK> Bye, Shiral.
[19:58] <jemler> nite siral
[19:58] * Shiral waves farewell, steps onto my portal and disappears in a cloud of rice and rosepetals
[19:58] <Shiral> Tee hee, can't resist!
[19:58] <the_Bee> KK, that's what I meant by jobs being done at home.
[19:58] <Evie_> I want rose petals in my Portal!
[19:58] * Alkari has joined #deryni_Destinations
[19:59] <KK> Attagirl!
[19:59] <the_Bee> bye Shiral
[19:59] <BalanceTheEnergies7> As I think of it, the CC might've wanted to channel the talents of that line into "controllable" channels. Hence, marying the girl to one of their own.
[19:59] <Evie_> wb Alkari
[19:59] <Alkari> re-hi
[19:59] <Shiral> BYE!
[19:59] <BalanceTheEnergies7> Bye Shiral.
[19:59] <Alkari> bye Shiral
[19:59] * Shiral has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[19:59] <fudgebob> KK: i just got the Deryni Adventure Game.
[20:00] <Alkari> BTE, I was also wondering about Jessamy's daughter, Iris Rose - safely in Arc en Ciel
[20:00] <KK> Oh, good.  Glad someone is buying it!
[20:00] <jemler> what does that come with fudgebob?
[20:00] <DesertRose> Cool, fudgebob, are you going to run one?
[20:00] <DesertRose> Iris Jessilde was Jessamy's daughter.
[20:00] <fudgebob> i want to run one
[20:00] <DesertRose> That would be cool.
[20:00] <fudgebob> still need to study it though
[20:01] <Alkari> Ah yes - there were so many Iris's
[20:01] <DesertRose> It is spring in Florida.  I have two bug bites.
[20:01] <Evie_> it's loads of fun to read, FB. I imagine it would be fun to play as well
[20:01] <Alkari>
[20:01] <KK> I think that Iris Jessilde probably has made a contented career in the convent.
[20:01] <jemler> DR, I'll be nice.
[20:01] <Evie_> is Arc-en-Ciel still around in Kelson's day?
[20:01] <Evie_> that's a start, jemler.
[20:01] <KK> Yes, Iris was the forename for all members of that order, in honor of the Rainbow.
[20:02] <Alkari> Yes KK - sanctuary forher.  And nice that she could look after Alyce in her own way
[20:02] <KK> I'm sure it is.
[20:02] <DesertRose> It makes me think of my stepgrandmother because her name was Iris.
[20:02] <Alkari> Do we see any more of it in CM 3?
[20:02] <KK> Probably, though I haven't layeredd that in yet.
[20:03] * BalanceTheEnergies7 has quit IRC (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[20:03] <KK> layered
[20:03] * Evie_ kicks Mibbit for BTE
[20:03] <KK> Poor BTE is having a terrible time!
[20:03] <Alkari> We are all holding our breaths about what has happened to all Alaric's Morgan relatives and the group down inLendour / Cynfyn
[20:04] <DesertRose> Cynfyn sounds like a person's name to me, not a place name, but one of my SCA friends uses it as his name, so that's probably why.
[20:04] * BalanceTheEnergies has joined #deryni_Destinations
[20:04] <jemler> Cynfyn was a person i believe
[20:05] <jemler> wb bte
[20:05] <Alkari> wb BTE
[20:05] <the_Bee> rehi BTE
[20:05] <Evie_> wb
[20:05] <DesertRose> rehi BTE.
[20:05] <Evie_> I kicked Mibbit for you
[20:05] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hello again. Does IceChat work for macs?
[20:05] <Evie_> Dunno
[20:05] <Alkari> Your Transfer Portal needs fixing
[20:05] <BalanceTheEnergies> i'm sick of the glith=ches.
[20:06] <KK> BRB.  Gotta go put dinner in the oven, which will take about 10 min.
[20:06] <DesertRose> Okay.
[20:06] <Evie_> http://www.icechat.com/
[20:06] <Evie_> You're putting it in the oven in super-slow-mo, KK?
[20:06] <BalanceTheEnergies> What did I miss? Cynfyn was what person?
[20:07] <Alkari> Cynfyn is the seat of the earls in Lendour I thought?
[20:07] <DesertRose> I said that I thought Cynfyn sounds more like a person's name than a place name to me because one of my SCA friends uses it for his name.
[20:07] <BalanceTheEnergies> Oh, well one doesn't preclude the other.
[20:07] <DesertRose> No, not necessarily.
[20:07] * Bee has joined #deryni_Destinations
[20:07] <Evie_> rehi Bee
[20:08] <BalanceTheEnergies> hello again Bee
[20:08] <Alkari> wb Bee
[20:08] <Evie_> we have two Bees
[20:08] <Bee> did I just get mibbited?
[20:08] <DesertRose> Bee, do you need me to kick your ghost?
[20:08] <Evie_> let the honey collecting begin
[20:08] <Bee> yes, please.
[20:08] * the_Bee was kicked by DesertRose (User terminated!)
[20:09] <jemler> You kicked her beehind, DR!
[20:09] <DesertRose> Smart aleck.
[20:09] * Alkari groans
[20:09] <BalanceTheEnergies>
[20:09] * Evie_ hands jemler a jester costume
[20:09] <jemler> my sense of humor is the only sense i have, according to some
[20:10] <Bee> I'm trying to change back, but it's not happening.
[20:10] <Evie_> well, every Court needs a fool, jemler.
[20:10] <DesertRose> Hmm.
[20:10] <DesertRose> Give it a minute, Bee, and then try again.
[20:10] <Evie_> Mibbit is sometimes stubborn that way when it's glitchy, Bee
[20:10] <Bee> oh well.
[20:11] <jemler> i use mirc
[20:11] <Bee> me too
[20:11] <fudgebob> if you are on Firefox, the Chatzilla add-on is good
[20:11] <DesertRose> If you are on Linux, Konversation works very nicely.
[20:11] <Evie_> I used the trial version of mirc, but they charge to continue on past the trial period, and I don't use it regularly enough to warrant paying the fee
[20:12] <Bee> Are Icechat and chatzilla alternatives to mibbit or alternatives to MIRC?
[20:12] <fudgebob> yes
[20:12] <Evie_> but this is working well for me so far, and I might look up Chatzilla in case i should need another backup for some reason
[20:12] <Bee> ??Yes what?
[20:12] <Evie_> they're all ways to get to chat, Bee
[20:12] <fudgebob> yes, they are alternatives to mirc
[20:12] <Evie_> mibbit just happens to be more handy for some since it's web based
[20:13] <Evie_> but mibbit also is more glitchy, in my experience
[20:13] <Bee> I thought MIRC worked through mibbit.
[20:13] <DesertRose> I don't think so.
[20:13] <Evie_> no
[20:13] <jemler> no. you connect directly to the server
[20:14] <Evie_> mibbit is just one way to connect
[20:14] <Bee> but mibbit's name keeps popping up.
[20:14] <BalanceTheEnergies> I was wondering if I should come here via a different browser.
[20:14] <Bee> and I only had to pay for MIRC once.
[20:14] <Evie_> that's because a lot of people use mibbit since it's what the forum links to
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
