[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:03 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:04 PM EDT] <revanne> It is helping thank you - we're still finding our way a bit and DH's short-term memory is not going to recover but he is much less confused which is great.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:09 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:12 PM EDT] <Jemler> hi , you ARE KK, right?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:14 PM EDT] * Shiral snaps fingers and produces a cream tea
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:23 PM EDT] <KK> Hello, all.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:24 PM EDT] <Eris> <bynw> Hi KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:29 PM EDT] <Derynifank> So glad to hear things are better
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:44 PM EDT] <revanne> Thanks
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> KK, Jemler is being a smart mouth but we've been having issues with the chat clients deciding people's names for them. :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:09:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> Any medicines that help in an Alzheimer's situation are good
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:10:15 PM EDT] <Derynifank> absolutely
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:10:42 PM EDT] <KK> I am KK, Jemler.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:10:52 PM EDT] <revanne> Yes - that's why I wanted a diagnosis so he could begin treatment.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:11:22 PM EDT] <KK> So sorry you, and he, are having to go through this.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:11:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> negotiating health care anywhere is not easy these days
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:11:45 PM EDT] Quit KK has left this server (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF)).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:11:56 PM EDT] <revanne> Thank you. We are getting loads of support from our family and church which is a great help.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:18 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That's great
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:20 PM EDT] <Jemler> kk?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:25 PM EDT] <revanne> Oh dear Kiwi is not happy tonight
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:26 PM EDT] Join KK has joined this channel.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:32 PM EDT] <revanne> Rehi KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:32 PM EDT] <Jemler> wb!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:40 PM EDT] <Derynifank> wb kk
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:43 PM EDT] <KK> Wow, I got disconnected, right out of the blue.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:12:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> My father's doctor was somewhat out to lunch, himself. He told my step mother my father was going through a mild cognitive impairment. Finally my brother spoke to him very forcefully about how it wasn't in the least bit "Mild."
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:13:06 PM EDT] <Shiral> Glad you're back, KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:13:08 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Strange things have been happening with chat lately
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:13:58 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Laurna are you here?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:14:00 PM EDT] <KK> So it would seem.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:14:21 PM EDT] <[b ]> just a server hiccup there all is good :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:14:22 PM EDT] <revanne> The problem is I think that if you only see someone from time to time - like a doctor- the full picture doesn't emerge.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:14:59 PM EDT] <revanne> and DH's visual memory is superb which helps to mask things a bit.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:15:06 PM EDT] <Derynifank> True. Does he at least see the same doctor?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:15:15 PM EDT] <KK> Yes, indeed. It will be interesting to see what my sister things, once she's seen Mother this trip. She arrives Thursday for 2 weeks.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:15:20 PM EDT] <KK> thinks
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:15:20 PM EDT] <Shiral> My father had been getting worse steadily for a number of years, by then
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:15:49 PM EDT] <revanne> We have a mental health nurse who is great.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:16:02 PM EDT] <Shiral> So there was some denial going on, both on the doctor's part and my father's
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:16:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> I hope you and your sister have a good visit, together
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:16:33 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That's good. She at least probably sees him regularly and knows what is happening with him
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:17:09 PM EDT] <KK> Me, too. Even more, I hopoe that she and our mother have a good visit. It isn't likely that Jeanne will get out here again soon.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:17:24 PM EDT] <revanne> Where does Jeanne live?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:17:38 PM EDT] <KK> Sacramento, CA.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:18:01 PM EDT] <revanne> That's a long way even in US terms.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:18:08 PM EDT] <KK> Yep.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:18:38 PM EDT] <The_Bee> KK. has your mom actually been diagnosed with something, or do you only suspect it?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:00 PM EDT] <Derynifank> My DH had his surgery postponed as he had a min stroke on Monday and spent 4 days in the ehospital. He is home but we won't know for a week or so what's next
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:07 PM EDT] <KK> It's just dementia, at this pooint, but short-term memory is getting worse and worse.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:18 PM EDT] <The_Bee> bummer
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:24 PM EDT] <KK> I have rented fingers tonight.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:27 PM EDT] <revanne> Sorry to hear that - both Derynifank and KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:19:59 PM EDT] <revanne> Your mom that is, not rented fingers which seem to afflict us all.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:23 PM EDT] <Derynifank> There was a football player whose nickname was crazy legs. I think mine is crazy fingers
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:25 PM EDT] <KK> Sadly, as we all get older, we have to deal nore and more with health issues, our own and those of our loved ones.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Too true, that.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:41 PM EDT] <Derynifank> So true
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:42 PM EDT] <Shiral> Mortality catches up to us all
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:20:45 PM EDT] * revanne pours hot chocolate as it's a bit cold here tonight.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys says "Hi" and purrs at everyone. She's camped out on the corner of my desk above the keyboard tray, with her gear up. :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:24 PM EDT] * Shiral adds fresh cinnamon rolls to go with the hot chocolate
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:37 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hi Carys
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:38 PM EDT] <Jemler> spare a cup, revanne?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:47 PM EDT] <revanne> I have a big birthday coming up and am going to walk part of the Camino de Santiago with a friend before I get too old.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:51 PM EDT] <KK> I have Gus curled up on my lap.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:53 PM EDT] <Derynifank> scritches to Carys
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:21:54 PM EDT] <revanne> I've made plenty, Jemler.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:07 PM EDT] <KK> Cool, Revanne!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:08 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi to our furry friends
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Please share pics, if you take them, of the Camino, revanne!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:24 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That sounds great revanne
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:31 PM EDT] <revanne> Will do.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:33 PM EDT] <Shiral> Sounds like an interesting project, Revanne!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:49 PM EDT] <revanne> I'm hoping to do about 15 miles a day for 10 days.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:22:51 PM EDT] <Shiral> Fortunately the accomodations won't be medieval
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:05 PM EDT] * Jemler thanks Revanne and Shiral as he helps himself
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> There was someone who did the Canterbury pilgrimage using 14th C. clothing, grooming, etc. just to get a feel for what Chaucer meant. :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:19 PM EDT] <Shiral> You're welcome, Jemler
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:29 PM EDT] <KK> Woo, that sounds ambitious.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:30 PM EDT] <Shiral> BRB
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:39 PM EDT] <revanne> No, it's fairly basic but a bit above medieval standards I hope.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:44 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Wow, I'm impressed. I'd be lucky to do 15 miles in 10 days
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:23:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> (And no, you don't get stinky and gross if you wash your skin even without a full bath and change your underclothing daily.)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:24:34 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Revanne, what, where and when is this "camino"?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:24:56 PM EDT] <revanne> I do long walks fairly regularly so I'm hoping I'll be ok.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:25:02 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's a pilgrimage route to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela (St. James), IIRC.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:25:06 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Is it on your bucket list?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:25:53 PM EDT] <DesertRose> One of a fair few saints named James, LOL.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:26:17 PM EDT] <revanne> Yes and yes. It's the old medieval pilgrimage route which has had a great resurgence in recent years. IIRC in 1985 about 5,000 people walked part of it each year - now it's about 200,000.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:26:21 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Where is it though?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:27:00 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Spain, I think.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:27:13 PM EDT] <revanne> Along the Atlantic Coast of Northern Spain. Soem of the routes start in France - though we will start much nearer the finish.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:27:22 PM EDT] <Shiral> SPain is the ultimate destination
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:28:12 PM EDT] <The_Bee> IIrc, one of Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma novels involved such a pilgrimage.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:29:29 PM EDT] <revanne> At least we can fly to Spain and don't have to go by boat and donkey.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:29:51 PM EDT] <Derynifank> sounds like a big improvement
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:30:11 PM EDT] <KK> A definite improvement.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:30:41 PM EDT] * [b ] is binge watching game of thrones and now just started season 6
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:30:55 PM EDT] <revanne> Especially when the English channel is stormy - I've been across in a storm a few times and even in a modern ferry it's no fun.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:00 PM EDT] <Shiral> Better walking shoes and cleanliness also help
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:16 PM EDT] <Derynifank> KK how are the downsizing and moving plans going?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yikes! (re ferry in a storm in the Channel)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:19 PM EDT] Join Rillan (~ae008e41@OWIRCN-1bdd9d77.org) has joined this channel.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Rillan!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:32 PM EDT] <Jemler> hi rillian
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:38 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hi Rillan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:40 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi rillan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:44 PM EDT] <Rillan> Hello everyone
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:48 PM EDT] <revanne> Demercia has a theory that Tolkien made hobbits with furry feet because he couldn;t find comfortable walking boots himself.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:53 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:31:56 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi Rillan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:12 PM EDT] <Jemler> just got Bohemian Rhapsody today. haven't watched yet.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:13 PM EDT] <revanne> Hppy belated birthday
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:18 PM EDT] <The_Bee> hi rillan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:27 PM EDT] <Shiral> Uncomfortable shoes DO make walking difficult, let alone hiking
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Comfortable walking shoes are pearls of great price (sometimes literally, on the "great price" bit).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:37 PM EDT] <KK> I continue to sort and toss. Made good progress this week on the desk mess, and friends who have/had abookstore are coming over tomorrow to survey the book glut and make suggestions on where they might go.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:32:50 PM EDT] <revanne> DH got that for his birthday Jemler but it's still sat on the coffee table.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:33:12 PM EDT] <revanne> Saying goodbye to books is always hard.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:33:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Indeed.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:33:31 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I have trouble with that too
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:33:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> One of these days, I need to have an uncluttering session so I can even think about using my sewing table, again
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:34:05 PM EDT] <KK> I want to see it, and they were showing it on Xfinity right after it won, but that was also in the final week or so of Scott's illness, so I didn't get to watch it. And then it disappeared.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:34:11 PM EDT] <Rillan> Letting go of books, sooo painful, when I moved from New York to Canada I had give up 90% of my library. Donated them to a charity that sold used books.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:34:49 PM EDT] <KK> Speaking of sewing, where's Evie tonight?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:35:44 PM EDT] <revanne> I think she often sees her folks on a Sunday afternoon.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:36:48 PM EDT] <revanne> That's a good idea Rillan.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:37:32 PM EDT] <Jemler> i donate mine to the local public library.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:39:14 PM EDT] <Derynifank> It's? gotten very quiet, did i get disconnected
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:39:15 PM EDT] <KK> I have hundreds of books upstairs, and more in my office, worth thousands of dollars. I'd like to get at least something for the ones I'm off-loading. And of course, they get to come and haul them away.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:39:37 PM EDT] <The_Bee> good for you, Jemler. Ibottow most of mine from my local library--except KK's
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:39:49 PM EDT] <The_Bee> borrow
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:40:45 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I still see you, Derynifank
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:40:55 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Thanks
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:42:00 PM EDT] <revanne> I need to replenish some of my KK books. Some disappeared in the move and others have fallen apart being read so often.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:42:13 PM EDT] <KK> A lot of mine are history, bought for research on various completed projects, so those will be much easier to let go of than some others.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:43:00 PM EDT] <revanne> research books are expensive though so it would be good if you could get at least some recompense.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:43:08 PM EDT] <Rillan> If you have time and know the value then used online booksellers and ebay are good markets. My cousin is in the process of selling his my uncle's estate. Looks of rare books and antiques. He's selling through dealers and ebay.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:43:11 PM EDT] <KK> Very true.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:43:35 PM EDT] <KK> None of mine are antiques, though; just interesting titles.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:43:49 PM EDT] <KK> I'll know more when my friends come tomorrow.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:44:09 PM EDT] <Shiral> Always good to get advice in situations like this
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:44:36 PM EDT] <KK> Would love to find a dealer who will just give me a flat price for the lot.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:44:44 PM EDT] <revanne> We have a set of Encyclopaedia Britannica bought by my Grandfather in 1929. I would be keen to sell them as we never use them but my DS wants to keep them - they are a fascinating record of how people saw the world then but they do take up a lot of room.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:44:56 PM EDT] <revanne> Tat would save you a lot of hassle KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:45:03 PM EDT] <revanne> Or even that.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:45:27 PM EDT] <Rillan> Do hardcover's exist of Deryni Tales and Deryini Magic? I think I have everything else in Hardcover except the Codex.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:45:45 PM EDT] * revanne helps herself cheekily to another scone to soothe her rented fingers.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:45:52 PM EDT] <KK> No to both, Rillan.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:47:02 PM EDT] <revanne> I love the Knighting of Derry
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:48:12 PM EDT] <Shiral> Always been partial to The Priesting of Arilan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:49:01 PM EDT] <The_Bee> "Catalyst"
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:49:16 PM EDT] <KK> brb
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:49:18 PM EDT] <Shiral> Revanne, you'll need some strawberries and cream to really cure the rented fingers!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:49:38 PM EDT] <revanne> Yes please.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:49:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "Catalyst" has always been my favorite out of the short stories in Deryni Archives, but I have a soft spot for "Vocation," and since writing that fanfic, "Priesting" too.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:50:26 PM EDT] <revanne> I like Priesting but Jorian's death really got to me.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:50:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> I found Wencit's POV interesting in Legacy
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:11 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I loved the glympses of Alaric as a young man. Legacy although I think that is a fanfic
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:12 PM EDT] <Shiral> I kinda think it was intentional on KK's part, Revanne.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, and I like KK's comment on heroes vs villains being a matter of perspective.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> No, KK wrote Legacy
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:49 PM EDT] <revanne> indeed, Shiral. It worked :-)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:51:50 PM EDT] <Jemler> about Priesting, do you think Sir Se killied Jorian?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:52:05 PM EDT] <Shiral> I would not be surprised, Jemler
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:52:18 PM EDT] <revanne> On balance, yes.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:52:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> All the stories in the book Deryni Archives are KK's work. The DA zine was fan material, and most of the stories in Deryni Tales, too.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:52:21 PM EDT] <The_Bee> KK, did you ever remember how Kelson was descended from Camber?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:52:38 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Alkari also had a story called "legacy'
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:53:24 PM EDT] <revanne> Compared to de Nore and his ilk Wencit is almost decent.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:53:58 PM EDT] <revanne> Well, until he gets his hands on Derry, that is.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:54:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Wencit at least has a goal that isn't "destroy everyone of Deryni ancestry," although he is considerably Machiavellian in how he goes about pursuing his goals.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:55:52 PM EDT] <Shiral> Well, he was also part of a Royal family where mutual suspicion was always a factor
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:56:39 PM EDT] <Shiral> At that point he had a brother and a nephew ahead of him in the succession. Aldred may have struck him as callow, but wow....Next to Aldred, Wencit was a far better king.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:59:31 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Am I still here?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:59:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I see you
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [5:59:57 PM EDT] <The_Bee> you too, thanks
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:00:38 PM EDT] <Shiral> Everyone's visible, but quiet
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:01:10 PM EDT] <KK> I'm back. Dr. Dog wanted to be fed, and then the cats decided that they also wanted to be fed, and watered, and given millk.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:01:51 PM EDT] <revanne> Because what the dog has the cats need too.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:01:59 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Melantha begs for cheese, then won't eat it.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:02:12 PM EDT] <Rillan> LOL, my cats rule the household.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:02:14 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Cats never want to be left out
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:02:46 PM EDT] <revanne> Of course Rillan, that's what cats are for, to be in charge.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:03:03 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I remember my mom acting out our making up her mind if she wants to come in or not.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:03:11 PM EDT] <The_Bee> cat
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:03:26 PM EDT] <Shiral> Soon the pygmy lions should be reminding me it's time for THEM to eat, also
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:04:01 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I still can't get Melantha to take her medicine.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:04:29 PM EDT] <Derynifank> cooperation not a cat strongpoint
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:04:36 PM EDT] <Shiral> And here's Dmitri right on cue
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:04:48 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi Dimitri.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:02 PM EDT] <revanne> Isn't co-operation a swear word to a cat?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:03 PM EDT] <Jemler> how do you give it?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:09 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I got some pill pockets. she saw me inserting the pill and walked away.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:24 PM EDT] <Derynifank> do you suppose they have a secret network? They all show up at the same time
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:32 PM EDT] <revanne> "Do you think I am stupid, Mom?"
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, yup.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:05:53 PM EDT] <Shiral> Tummy Time Clocks, are more like it
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:06:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dmitri is rubbing his cheeks on the upper corner of my laptop screen
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:06:35 PM EDT] <KK> I think there are gadgets for pilling cats. Looks something like a hypo, but shoots the pill into the back of the mouth, where the cat is less likely to spit it ouit.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:06:39 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What worries me is, I'm supposed to keep it under refigeration, and I left it out for several hours. Is it still safe?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:07:01 PM EDT] <KK> Probably. How warm is it in your apartment?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:07:25 PM EDT] <The_Bee> too warm for me.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:07:53 PM EDT] <The_Bee> The vet packed it in ice for me to take home.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:08:35 PM EDT] <The_Bee> the pills, not my apartment
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:08:38 PM EDT] <Shiral> The late Pan had to be pilled late in his life. I would manage to get the pill down, and then I would wait for the swallow, while he sat there, glaring at me. When I would let him go, he would spit out the pill with great precision and accuracy
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:08:43 PM EDT] <Jemler> does it dissolve in water?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:09:23 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I don't know. the directions said not to remove it from the capsule.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:10:44 PM EDT] <The_Bee> The medicine is supposed to help her kidney, which is not working as well as it should.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:10:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> This doesn't work with every cat (I damn sure wouldn't try it with Merlin), but if you can open the cat's mouth, put the tablet/capsule in the back of their mouth, close their jaw and rub their throat, often they'll swallow the pill, and if push really comes to shove, cover their nostrils with your finger. That forces them to open their mouths to breathe, and they have to swallow first. It's not nice but it's quick.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:10:55 PM EDT] <Jemler> try cod liver oil.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:15 PM EDT] <KK> I'd go ahead and give it tonight, then call the vet in the morning. Worst that can happen is that tonight's dose won't be as potent as it should be. And it isn't worth going to an amergency vet, at this point.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:26 PM EDT] <revanne> Going to say goodnight folks as brain is tuning out. Many thanks for early chat, I really appreciate it. Hope the books get sorted KK and have a good week, everyone.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> G'night, revanne!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:38 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I have fish oil but Melantha refuses to eat any food I add it to.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:40 PM EDT] <Shiral> Night, Revanne
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:41 PM EDT] <Jemler> night revanne.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:11:59 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Good night revanne, great to chat with you
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:05 PM EDT] <KK> Nighters, Revanne. Hope you have a good week.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:07 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Nighters, Revanne. enjoy your pilgrimage.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:14 PM EDT] <revanne> Thanks all
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:19 PM EDT] Quit revanne (revanne@OWIRCN-6cb75694.dyn.plus.net) has left this server (Connection closed).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:21 PM EDT] <Jemler> thanks gfor the cocoa!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:36 PM EDT] <[b ]> night KK
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:12:47 PM EDT] <KK> When is she going on the pilgrimage? I think I missed that.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:13:00 PM EDT] <Shiral> I didn't hear her specify a date
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:13:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm not sure she said, but she did mention it was a birthday thing, and her and Demercia's birthday is next month.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:13:22 PM EDT] <KK> Is Demercia going along?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:13:45 PM EDT] <Shiral> Not sure about that, either
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:13:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I don't know, but they're twins, so they have the same birthday. Since Demercia is also a priest, she may be going on the trip, but it may depend on workload.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:15:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And they were born the same year as my oldest brother, so that makes it easy for me to remember what year at least; also, HRM did them the courtesy of being crowned on their birthday (albeit several years before they were born ;) ).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:15:49 PM EDT] <Rillan> None of my business but out of curiosity, is she an Episcopal priest?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:16:01 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, revanne and Demercia are both Anglican priests.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:16:19 PM EDT] <Shiral> BRB, Pygmy Lions insist
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:16:52 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Have to do somethingabout supper. Willbe back
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:17:12 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Food is useful.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:17:17 PM EDT] <Rillan> Always curious about holy orders as an ex-seminarian and still a student of religion and history
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:17:52 PM EDT] <DesertRose> JastaElf, who doesn't make it to chat often (dratted life keeping her busy), is another of our forum/chat priests.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:18:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Where did you go to seminary, Rillan?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:19:17 PM EDT] <Rillan> My high school was a preparatory seminary for the Brooklyn Diocese and then I continued for one semester in the college program before I took a leave of absence and never went back.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:19:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Ah, okay, cool.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:19:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> One of my cousins started RC seminary (can't remember where now) before deciding he wanted to get married and have a family and finishing his history degree at Christendom College.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:20:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And then he got married a little over a year ago and is going for his master's degree now in psychology or something counseling-adjacent.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:20:38 PM EDT] <The_Bee> IIRC, KK is a bishop in the Celtic Christian Church.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:21:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She is.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:21:22 PM EDT] <Shiral> And back, in the amazing silence without a loud mouth cat scolding me for making him wait for supper
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:21:32 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:22:20 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Wait til Tati gets hungry1
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:22:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> She's eating too. But her mews are more like dainty little "Meeps!"
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:23:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I had to cat-sit for my family this weekend. The Pod-Child moved into her own place about six weeks ago and took PJ with her, and the Pod-Child's best friend is usually the petsitter, but the girls are on their way back from Disney now, so I had to take care of all three kitties from Friday evening through this morning.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:23:42 PM EDT] <Rillan> In high school I considered converting to Episcopalian because I found out the RC Church allows married Episcopalian priests to convert and become married RC priests. Didn't seem fair to me.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:24:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Merlin and I had an almost-detente when I talked to him and brought him his vitamin treat yesterday. He at least didn't try to take a chunk out of me when I gave him his vitamin treat this morning, anyway.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:24:57 PM EDT] <Shiral> Glad he didn't bite the hand that was literally feeding him
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:25:04 PM EDT] <Rillan> However, after a long painful faith journey, I've recently come to terms with the fact that I'm currently an agnostic.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:25:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> No, that's not particularly fair, and I frankly think the RC loses a lot of people who'd make excellent priests with the celibacy rule (and refusing to ordain women).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:26:04 PM EDT] <Rillan> DesertRose, I completely agree with you. Celibacy and the refusing to accept women into Holy Orders are both ridiculous policies.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:26:23 PM EDT] <Rillan> Mandatory celibacy I mean.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:26:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Merlin is my parents' Manx cat, and he hates my guts because I was cat-sitting about six years ago when he got a UTI and the vet said that the easiest way out was to go ahead and get him neutered (which was going to happen anyway), but of course, it is now my fault forever and ever amen that he came home from that vet trip minus his knackers.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:26:28 PM EDT] <KK> These labels do shift and change in life, Rillan. Whether you believe in Him or not, He/She believes in you. :-)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:26:34 PM EDT] <The_Bee> When did celibacy become a requirement for the RC? Saint Peter must have been married, since his mother-in-law is mentioned in the Bible.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:27:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, chastity is a reasonable ask, IMO, since one can be chaste and married (as long as one has sex only with one's spouse), but mandatory celibacy is ridiculous and it's basically because the Church a few centuries ago didn't want to have to pay to support priests' wives and children.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:28:02 PM EDT] <Rillan> KK, an evangelical friend of mine said that very same thing to me.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:28:13 PM EDT] <Rillan> :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:28:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I like the Orthodox Christian take on that: parish priests are SUPPOSED to be married, since part of that job entails marital/family counseling and how can you counsel people on marriage and family issues if you don't know what married/parenting life is like?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:28:43 PM EDT] <KK> It was a later ruling, and partially had to do with hot wanting a priest to be encumbered, both psychologically and physically (as in, not want to to support priests' families, and not wanting to have church properties possibly being diminished).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:29:04 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I once learned a christian Science prayer that began "Father-Mother God."
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:31:05 PM EDT] <Rillan> I have a lot of Catholic family in Germany where the RC Church is particularly wealthy due to the mandatory "Church Tax", and it seems that there are numerous priests and bishops there with secret families.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:32:02 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's not a new phenomenon. Part of the impetus behind the Protestant Reformation was priests/bishops/etc. talking the talk but not walking the walk, for various values of "not walking" including not being chaste.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:32:23 PM EDT] <Rillan> I don't know much about the Celtic Christian Church, how longer have you been a member and ordained if I my ask?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:32:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Who, me? I'm not a member much less ordained. But KK is. :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:33:36 PM EDT] <KK> About 35 years as a priest, and 30 as a bishop. I see myself as a facilitator.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:33:54 PM EDT] <Shiral> Fed kitties have returned. I guess they love me for me, and not just because I am The Filler of Bowls.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:33:56 PM EDT] <The_Bee> When was the Celtic Christian Church founded?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:35:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> http://www.celticchristianchurch.org/
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:36:25 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Thanks, DR
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:36:29 PM EDT] <DesertRose> :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:36:32 PM EDT] <Rillan> I'll have to do some research. I'm very interested in branches of the Christian Church that have maintained Apostolic Succession. I only discovered some other them a few years back. They were never spoken of or acknowledged in my RC seminary days.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:36:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Figured I'd make it easy.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:36:48 PM EDT] <Rillan> Thanks
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:37:11 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Thanks DR
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:37:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Y'all are welcome. :D
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:37:45 PM EDT] <Jemler> brb
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:37:48 PM EDT] <KK> We have valid lines of succession, acknowledged by the Episcopal and some Lutherans, as well as varioius independed catholic churches.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:38:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> My local SCA group meets in a Lutheran church, and they have a labyrinth on the church property. I keep meaning to go over there and walk it.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:38:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's not far from my apartment building, and the fact that I don't walk as fast as I used to ought to work in my favor for walking the labyrinth.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:40:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I don't imagine it'll work like the one at Oakwood, but it ought to be a worthwhile experience nonetheless. ;)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:40:40 PM EDT] <KK> Absolutely. I highly recommend labyrinths.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:40:52 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I've read of a way to walk a labyrinth without getting lost, but I;ve enver ahd a chance to test it.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:41:07 PM EDT] <Rillan> I unintentionally insulted an Anglican the other day when I made a joke to and ex-Orthodox priest about finding a Catholic or Orthodox bishop to leave and create a new Church. The person asked why I would only look for a Catholic or Orthodox bishop and I explained the RC stance on Apostolic Succession. I tried to explain that it wasn't my personal belief and that I'd only made the statement as a joke but they went of in a huff.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:41:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> If you got lost in this one, it wouldn't be too difficult to get un-lost.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:42:01 PM EDT] <The_Bee> no need for Ariadne's thread?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:42:04 PM EDT] <KK> You can't get lost in a labyrinth, Bee. Mazes are a different thing.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:42:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> ah ,ok. I was wondering about that.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:43:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> https://stjohnsjax.wordpress.com/
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:43:17 PM EDT] <Rillan> Never, knew that difference between mazes and labyrinths. Never too old to learn new things, lol.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:43:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That photo at the top is the labyrinth. It's maybe as big around as a medium-sized garden.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:44:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's an outdated but still accessible website for the church.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:45:02 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I haad a high school classmate who was Lutheran. She once told me that she didn't consider anything other than Christianity as a real religion.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:45:16 PM EDT] <Rillan> KK, maybe you know something about a Lutheran issue that has confused me for a long time. I thought Martin Luther believed in a universal priesthood and rejected the sacrament of Holy Orders but I'm aware of several Lutheran denominations that practice ordination.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:45:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> How narrow-minded to think that only one faith could contain truth.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:45:27 PM EDT] <KK> One of the great things about a labyrinth is how it takes you toward the center, then back out, then closer, then out partway. And if you're walking it with other peoplke, you keep approaching, passing, and moving away from them. a good metaphor for life and relationships.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:45:51 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Indeed.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:47:02 PM EDT] <KK> Yep, they do, Rillan. And not being Lutheran (not now and never have been), I couldn't tell you. You'd have ask several Lutherans.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:48:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I just checked tomorrow's weather and set a reminder in my phone to go walk the labyrinth tomorrow mid-morning. :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:49:36 PM EDT] <KK> Good thinki9ng, DR. Oh, and what's the latest word on that ariliner that went into the river? I understand that all the pets aboard probably drowned.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:50:09 PM EDT] <Rillan> That's terrible, I hadn't heard about a downed airliner :(
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:50:11 PM EDT] <KK> (rented fingers again)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:51:12 PM EDT] <KK> No lives lost, at least human ones. It bounced on the runway and skidded and probably hydroplaned, and went into the St. John's River, which isn't deep at that end of the runway.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:51:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm not sure, but the weather was A FREAKING MESS last night, and I suspect that was a factor in the incident.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:51:27 PM EDT] <Shiral> I heard a little about the air crash...but not about the poor critters
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:51:37 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And yes, the humans were safely recovered, but it looks like the pets were not so lucky.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:51:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> Poor things!
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:52:08 PM EDT] <KK> About 4 or so, as far as I can tell. THey were saying a dog and 2 cats at first, but that was later revised to be several more.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:52:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> They were landing at the Naval Air Station (the actual commercial airport isn't all that close to the river), but it was a commercial-type plane, so I don't know what the heck is up with that.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:52:34 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I've lost the list of chatters; is Bynw here?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:52:36 PM EDT] <Shiral> Wonder why so many animals were aboard t hat particular flight
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:52:52 PM EDT] <KK> It was a military charter of a civilian aircraft, coming from Cuba.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:53:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> Ah. Poor families have lost their beloved animals, too. =o(
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:53:36 PM EDT] <KK> Civilians and military personnel going home or on holiday, and taking their pets with them. Alas....
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:54:18 PM EDT] <The_Bee> bynw, is there much flooding where you are?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:54:53 PM EDT] <[b ]> nope
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:55:18 PM EDT] <Rillan> hurts my heart
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:55:22 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That's good
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:55:39 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I meant no flooding for bynw
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:30 PM EDT] <Rillan> I've to to run but it's been a pleasure.Good night everyone.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> G'night, Rillan! Happy belated birthday! :)
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:41 PM EDT] Quit Rillan (~ae008e41@OWIRCN-1bdd9d77.org) has left this server (Quit: CGI:IRC).
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:46 PM EDT] <KK> Nighters, Rillan.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:56 PM EDT] <KK> Whoa, too quick for anyone.
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:58:57 PM EDT] <Shiral> Night Rillan
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [6:59:02 PM EDT] <Shiral> OOps
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [7:00:02 PM EDT] <KK> I also need to get going. Still much to do at the desk, like paying some bills. Hopefully, the one I was trying to get into last night is working better today..
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [7:00:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> Night, KK Have a good week. Hope you get the book situation sorted out
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [7:00:27 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Night KK. Have a good visit with your sister
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [7:00:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Okay, g'night, KK. Thanks for coming to see us! Next week, regular time?
[Sunday, May 5, 2019] [7:00:34 PM EDT] * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
