Did anyone else read the most recent chat post, where KK says that the CM trilogy could end up being a quartet? I'd be fine with that, especially if it would make the remaining books better instead of having just one and be overloaded. Of course, it'd be one more addition to an ever-increasing list of books she plans to write. Hey, she's the creator, so I'm sure we'll be happy whatever she decides.
Some of her more recent books have been a little too many plot-points shoved into too small a book. If she is willing to spread some of the stories over two or more books to develop the plots more fully, then great!
Another book in any series is always great. However, I REALLY want to know what happened in 948, when many characters perished. I know we've all been waiting a long time for the answer.
Yeah, I definitely felt the toss-up. I want fast books, good books, and to know what happens in the books we've been waiting years for. She'll simply have to plan on living forever to tell all the stories.

What's the old saying: "Fast, good, cheap: pick two of the three."
As for KK not being able to get all the stories told that she wants (and we want her) to tell,
1--that's what fanfic is for; alternatively
2--she can do what Anne McCaffery did and designate someone as her successor.
I don't mind waiting for a good book, and if KK needs time to write her vision of the third (and possibly fourth) Childe Morgan book, then so be it. I just wish real life would get out of her way and let her write! From the way she sounds in chat of late, it sounds like she's bogged down in mundania.

Well... it
IS a major undertaking to move one's home across the pond, lock stock and barrel and animals, too. And the Mundania of all this does take a lot of time. With that said, I agree. I didn't start reading the Deryni books to hear about house redecoration.
Also I think it's far better to write a fourth book than to cram 25 years of Alaric's life into only one. Also, it will bring the focus more onto Alaric himself--I hope! For a series named for him, the two books so far have been much more about other people.

Wasn't the year 948 a widespread plague outbreak? I checked my Codex & the Black Death struck down quite a list of people. And it was a busy year for other developments, too.
I would much rather see 2 more books in the Childe Morgan series than everything crammed into one and given short shrift. I think it was KKB that I had a similar problem with. Too many story lines and they all had to fit. Give Alaric time to grow up. Split the book, give him time to explore Culdi with his cousins as well as serve at Court, then send him off to fight the Marluk, have a private war with Jehanna and become the protector of the Prince. He is too complex a character to jam most of his life into one book.
Amen to that. As pivotal as Morgan is in the Kelson books, I'd like to learn more about his upbringing. How does he become the Commander of the Royal army. You don't just spring into that position; how was he groomed for that job. He's too young to inherit the job based on years of service. I'd like to read more about his development.
Since this current trilogy is called "Childe Morgan", the next book will most likely be about Morgan's life and events in Gwynedd up to "Deryni Rising". We'll have to wait and see.
Well, I know that I'm annoyng you with all my questions but...I need to know :)
I have this book named "The childe Morgan" but...it's only one! You are speaking of 3 books! I just looked on the cover and they don't say it's the 1st of a trilogy, so I can suppose it includes all the 3 books? Help!
Patience, Grasshopper. Get "In the King's Service" and read it before before "Childe Morgan". Then, sit tight like the rest of us, waiting patiently for the 3rd (and possible 4th?) book to be published. When this will occur, the whole crew wonders. Just be patient.

That's how I felt about "In the King's Service"; it had enough 'plot' for a two-volume or even a trilogy in itself.
I agree that a fourth book would be great! Not only because it's another Deryni book, but like others, I felt that the last few had far too many things going on for one story. And some of those got short-changed a bit, IMO, in trying to get it all into one volume. Adding one would allow some of the stories to be spread out and detailed more.

Outside of Deryni Rising most of the stories follow a 2 book story arc (see below). Looking at this 2 book structure also makes me think there will be 2 more Childe Morgan books, not 1. This seems to be the way KK writes, the first book of a story arc develops the conflict and ends without that conflict being resolved, the 2nd book resolves the conflict, sometimes leaving plot threads for future books.
Deryni Rising
Deryni Checkmate
High Deryni
The Bishops's Heir
The King's Justice
The Quest for Saint Camber
King Kelson Bride
Camber of Culdi
Saint Camber
Camber the Heretic
The Harrowing of Gwynedd
King Javen's Year
The Bastard Prince
In the King's Service
Childe Morgan
IMHO, both King's Service and Childe Morgan had enough plot for two books, or even three, each crammed into one. Both had so many events alluded to or described briefly that cried out for more thorough treatment. If KK needs to write two books to avoid the 'shoehorn effect', more power to her.
I too am very intrigued with 948. I am very new on here but have read people discussing a "Road To Killingford". If one of our more esteemed members could elaborate I would certainly appreciate it. Slainte
"The Road to Killingford" is the tentative title to the book KK is working on next, which as the title implies will deal with the events leading up to that fateful battle in Gwynedd's and Torenth's history.
OMG that sounds AWESOME! Can't hardly wait for it! Any idea for a release date? Thank you Evie

Exactly; each of the books in the Childe Morgan trilogy had enough plot for a trilogy.

Well, she needs to finish writing more than just the title first. ;D She hasn't actually started writing the novel yet, just some of the initial plot outline, I think.
