[18:05]<jemler> KK!
[18:06]<KK> Hello, all.  Sparse attendance tonight, I see.
[18:06]<jemler> a really slow night tonight!
[18:06]<jemler> so how was your weekwnd?
[18:07]<KK> Have we heard anything further from Bynw, as to when the website might be back up?
[18:07]<jemler> i haven't.
[18:07]<jemler> have you ever heard of the TCM 2010 DVD Catalog?
[18:08]<KK> If he can't host it anymore, I need to know, so that I can make other arrangements.
[18:08]<KK> No.
[18:09]<jemler> it lists all kinds of movie, tv shows, etc that you can buy in DVD from them. Even old shows from England.
[18:09]<Bynw> I'm working on it Katherine, just the crash came at a very bad time for all my staff ... why too much real life going on
[18:10]<KK> And I need to update it.  I have two new links to add, for a taped interview I did last week for New England TV and a link to an art exhibit that was held last year after the passing of author Tom Dietz, who did a lot of Deryni art.  They used a St, Camber carpet plate for the poster.
[18:11]<Bynw> neat
[18:11]<KK> Hi, Bynw.  Sorry, I didn't mean to be critical.  I do appreciate that you've been hosting all this stuff for some time now.
[18:11]<KK> The exhibit was at UGA, where Tom had serious connections.

[18:12]<KK> Meanwhile, sorry I wasn't here last week, but we went to see The Hurt Locker on Sunday night, and Alice in Wonderland on Monday.  Both excellent films, in entirely different ways.  Johnny Depp was awesome.
[18:13]<jojo> Howdy all
[18:13]<jemler> hi jojo
[18:13]<Bynw> email me the links :o) i'll get them going as fast as possible ... its been a real headache with my old host just disappearing like it did ... but we did manage to save all the data just have to put it back in its new home
[18:13]<KK> Hey, jojo.
[18:13]<KK> Will do, Bynw.
[18:17]<jojo> How did the Virginia event go, KK?
[18:17]<KK> Have had an excellent writing week.  Finally got up a head of steam and am charging right along.

[18:17]<jemler> hi bee
[18:18]<KK> Very well.  That's where I did the TV interview.  And the panel went very well--with a good meal after ward.  That's always nice.
[18:18]<KK> Hi, Bee.
[18:18]<the_Bee> hi jemler. and hi KK
[18:19]<jojo> Howdy, Bee
[18:19]<the_Bee> when and where will the interview air? or has it already?
[18:19]<the_Bee> howdy jojo
[18:20]<KK> It was done for public access TV in Massachusetts, and is online.  I'm sending Bynw the link.
[18:20]<KK> (The info is buried in an e-mail right now, or I'd post it here.)
[18:21]<the_Bee> I'll look for it.
[18:21]<the_Bee> 900000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
[18:21]<jojo> Howdy, Mirantha!
[18:22]<the_Bee> Melantha says hi back
[18:22]<KK> Bee, as I was saying just before you arrived, had an excellent writing week.  Finally got up a head of steam and am charging right along.
[18:22]<jojo> sorry abt the spelling.
[18:22]<the_Bee> oh goody!
[18:22]<jemler> wow! deja-vu!
[18:22]<jemler> i think i saw you type that earlier!
[18:23]<the_Bee> Melantha's saying, "how dare yu eat cheese nd not share it with me!"
[18:24]<jojo> \me sends some extra sharp cheddar to the north!
[18:24]<KK> Alaric has made a friend among the other pages, while he there with his father, waiting for Twelfth Night and Jared's return, when Jared will do homage for his new title and also take Alaric as a page in his household.  This gets Alaric out of the pressures of court for a few years, and also explains why he's at Culdi with Jared's household the following year, when Kenneth dies.
[18:25]<jojo> coool:)
[18:25]<the_Bee> Where's Bronwyn?
[18:25]<KK> Of course, once Kenneth is gone, all bets are off, and Alaric will be back at court and having to contend with the masty Cornelius Seaton, whose maternal uncle is Bishop Oliver de Nore.
[18:26]<jojo> hisssbooo
[18:26]<KK> Bronwyn is at Morganhall with Claara and Delphine, for now.
[18:27]<KK> But Alaric is making a new friend at court: Paget Sullivan, who is a younger son of Sir Ewan Sullivan, who has the manor in the Mearan borders with a Portal that Oisin uses from time to time.
[18:29]<KK> Occasional exposure to Oisin accounts for Paget being less frightening of Deryni than most folk.  And he's a sharp lad, about to become a squire--as is Cornelius Seaton.
[18:30]<KK> Interesting thing about Paget. He jumped into the story as one of the older pages who did very well at the king's birthday tournament--won the event, in fact.  But it wa only a daya or two ago that I realized he was Evan sullivan's son, and what the Deryni connection was.  But my unconscious knew!
[18:30]<jemler> is Pagwet related to Oisin?
[18:31]<jojo> Sounds like a lively bunch of boys...
[18:31]<jemler> most 10 yo are!
[18:31]<jojo> true
[18:32]<the_Bee> How old is alaric now? and Brion?
[18:32]<KK> No.  He isn't Deryni.  But Paget's father is a friend of Oisin, and provides access (unaware) to the Portal at his manorhouse.
[18:32]<KK> Alaric has just turned 8; Brion is 18.
[18:35]<jojo> Does he get to see Duncan occasionally?
[18:35]<KK> And currently, Brion is worrying about rumors that Ps. Aude of Meara is dying; and once she's gone, Caitrin will be free to marry.  There will be a visitation into Meara in the spring, if not an actual campaign.
[18:35]<jemler> isn't that how old Alaris was when he broke his arm?
[18:36]<KK> I saw Duncan when they were at Culdi, when Andrew was doing--and the two of them had been at court with their fathers before that, for the king's birthday.
[18:36]<jemler> sorry, new keyboard, still getting used to it.
[18:36]<the_Bee> andrew was doing what?
[18:36]<KK> Alaric breaks his arm the following summer, while in Jared's household--and while Kenneth (and maybe Jared) are in meara with the king.

[18:39]* Bynw has changed the topic to:   Official Chat of Katherine Kurtz * Official Website: www.rhemuthcastle.com * Official Forums: www.rhemuthcastle.com * currently working on getting the site back up ...
[18:42]<jojo> Bynw, did you do that?
[18:43]<Bynw> i just changed the topic ... hopefully have the site up by next weekend ... if we can get the time to work on it this week
[18:44]<jojo> Anyway, always the Mearan problem...
[18:44]* the_Bee sends bynw time-to-work-on-the-site woodgies
[18:45]<KK> Yeah, well we know how the Mearan problem eventually gets resolved.  This is a lot of background of the problem.
[18:45]<the_Bee> Remind me--was it jared's aunt or Andrew's aunt whose son married into the Mearan royal family?
[18:46]<jemler> i have to wonder if the Sullivan Manor originally belonged to Sylvan O'Sullivan, Gregory of Ebor's Healer.
[18:48]<KK> And today I discovered that the Torenthi language uses a different alphabet--probably cyrillic--and Alaric's Aunt Claara has begun teaching him how to read it--the letters, not necessarily the language.  But he informs us that a lot of military terms are very similar, once one puzzles out the letters.  So he's trying to read a military treatise on battle tactics, written by a Torenthi commander who survived the Battle of Killingford
[18:49]<KK> Good catch, Jemler.  It would account for the Portal being there.
[18:50]<KK> Anyway, the Torenthi treatise is a useful occupation for a rainy November day.
[18:51]<jemler> If Sulvan blocked the powers of his family to protect them, maybe with Revan's help?
[18:52]<KK> He's found a quiet seat in the arched colonnade along the royal gardens, where there's light enough to read.  And he has permission to borrow manuscripts from the royal library--which is much smaller than it will become later on.
[18:53]<jojo> Then in the evening he'll try the tactics out with toy soldiers by the hearth
[18:54]<jemler> or try them out on a Cardonet board.
[18:57]<KK> Oh, and Aunt Claara began teaching Alaric accountancy, since he'll have to run his estates, once he's duke.
[18:57]<KK> As we know from later exposition, he doesn't much like going over the estate accounts.
[18:59]<jemler> I took accounting in college. I paid more attention to Lisa Loftus then i did the Mr Kamarados!
[19:00]<the_Bee> I just thought of something.  We've seen analogs of the Welsh, irish and Scottish.  is there an analog of the Normans or Anglo-Saxons in the 11 Kingdoms?
[19:00]<KK> It's a necessary evil, for a duke.  I imagine he's competent enough at it; he just doesn't care that much about doing it himself.  But that's what he has "people" for.  :-)
[19:01]<KK> I'd say that the Haldanes and their ilk are the Norman analogue.
[19:01]<the_Bee> ah.
[19:01]<jemler> According to Codex they are descended from Halbert the Dane.
[19:01]<the_Bee> but they arrived well before 1066. :)
[19:02]<jojo> Danes, Normans, Vikings... branches of the same tree.
[19:03]<KK> Yes, they arrived sooner.  But Rob did some interesting speculation, not all of it necessarily exactly accurate.
[19:04]<the_Bee> Hmmm.
[19:04]<jemler> Robisms?
[19:06]<the_Bee> '['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['['[
[19:06]<KK> Yep.  And at the time he wrote it and I went over it, it was an overwhelming amount of information and speculation, and I let some things slide, thinking I'd never go there anyway.  Some of the minor names, for example, are groaners, especiallyw hen dealing with the minor kingdoms and principalities along the coast.
[19:08]<jemler> youmean like Parsleigh and Brocleigh?
[19:09]<KK> Yep.  And far worse.
[19:09]<jemler> the lupenziners was a stretch.
[19:10]<KK> But in all fairness, he had to come up with a LOT of names.  And like I said, these were obscure areas where I was unlikely to spend too much time.
[19:14]<KK> When I run up against an impossible name anyway, I just change it.  Fortunately, I've had to do very little of that.  Often, I'll simply shift the location so that I don't have to deal with it.  I'd rather not deliberately make something incorrect in the Codex, because it's a remarkable accomplishment.
[19:15]<the_Bee> I'll have to do a search for all those groaners
[19:16]<jemler> look under Rum. that's a good one!

[19:17]<KK> They're most apt to show up as names of minor characters' children, so that he could fill in all those gaps.  Have a look at some of the Forcinn States.
[19:18]<Bee> I hit the wrong key.  I was talking about the aqui-ducks on lake Pericomo.
[19:19]<KK> Yes, and fire festival in Thurifiere, where they swing censers around, and the stinky cheese references.  There are some realy groaners, like I said.

[19:27]<Bee> hi kelric
[19:28]<jojo> Howdy, Kelric
[19:28]<jemler> hi kelric. feeling better?
[19:28]* Kelric starts swearing profusely
[19:28]<Kelric> health wise better tghan I have been
[19:28]* jemler shuts his eyes!
[19:28]<Kelric> emotionally I'm extremely annoyed.
[19:29]<Bee> how come?
[19:29]<Kelric> I was at a gaming convention this weekend, running a couple events on friday.
[19:29]<Kelric> and had a ton of stuff with me that day.
[19:29]<jemler> too mnay people asking you how you are doing?
[19:29]<Kelric> close to midnight we were packing up and in the quickness of my leaving I managed to forget a case of minis
[19:30]<Kelric> that case had about $900 retail of metal minis.
[19:30]<Kelric> I am PRAYING that one of the local guys picked it up
[19:30]<Bee> oops!  any chance of getting it back?
[19:30]<Kelric> I have no clue
[19:31]<Bee> I hope your prayers are answered to your satisfaction.
[19:31]<Kelric> I didn't realize I had forgotten it until about 3 hours ago
[19:31]<KK> Bummer.
[19:31]<Kelric> as it is,  if the minis are gone I will sell the last few minis from that army that were in a different case and hopefully recoup the $115 I paid for the whole lot
[19:31]<Bee> Do you have a phone number toc= call, and will anyone be there right now?
[19:32]<KK> Surely someone picked it up, and knew it belonged to you.
[19:32]<Kelric> I checked all the different lost and found places in the hotel and the convention
[19:32]<Kelric> I expect that one of the local guys did grab it
[19:36]<Bynw> unfortunately just because someone picked it up and knows it belongs to someone else doesn't mean they are going to return it :(
[19:37]<Kelric> yeah.
[19:37]<Kelric> though I have to say this weekend was very stressful on my body system.
[19:39]<jojo> Hopefully you'll get some time to relax...
[19:40]<KK> Alas, on that note, I need to get moving. I'm on a roll, and don't want to lose momentum entirely.
[19:40]<Bee> goodnight, KK.  have a good week.
[19:40]<KK> I should be here next weekn, unless my darling husband decides again that we must go to a movie on Sunday evening.
[19:40]<jemler> nite kkm thanks for the visit
[19:40]<KK> Good night to all.  And Kelric, I hope your box turns up.
[19:40]<Bee> yes, thank you.
[19:40]<jojo> Happy wordsmithing this week!
[19:41]<Bynw> night KK
[19:41]<Kelric> well,  tomorrow morning I have an ultrasound scan to do on my pancreas to see if I do need the other surgery with respect to the pancreatitis case.
[19:41]<KK> From your lips to God's ear!
[19:41]<KK> Oooh, good luck!
