Dec 13 19:11:43 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Dec 13 19:11:44 <Evie>   Hi KK
Dec 13 19:11:47 <Annie>   Hey, KK.
Dec 13 19:11:48 <The_Bee>   Hi KK
Dec 13 19:11:54 <KK>   Hello, all.
Dec 13 19:11:57 <jemler>   hi kk
Dec 13 19:12:03 *   Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-a7de4307.dsl.bell.ca) has joined
Dec 13 19:12:08 <DesertRose>   How's your week been?
Dec 13 19:12:09 <Evie>   hi Jerusha
Dec 13 19:12:11 <DesertRose>   Hi jemler
Dec 13 19:12:11 <The_Bee>   hi jerusha
Dec 13 19:12:14 <DesertRose>   Hi Jerusha
Dec 13 19:12:16 <Annie>   Hi, Jerusha
Dec 13 19:12:19 <Jerusha>   Hi everyone!
Dec 13 19:12:27 <DesertRose>   Autocompleted the wrong nick there, sorry.
Dec 13 19:12:32 <jemler>   hi jerusha
Dec 13 19:12:33 <KK>   Busy getting gifts ready for the mail.
Dec 13 19:12:55 <jemler>   i wont be on on the 27th. because of xmas i have dialysis on sunday. it always wears me out, so i'll be sleeping.
Dec 13 19:12:59 <DesertRose>   I had to tell DD she's going to have to wait for her Christmas pressie from me because the Etsy seller who makes it is on hiatus.
Dec 13 19:13:28 <KK>   Owww, sorry, Jemler.
Dec 13 19:13:43 <DesertRose>   It's a hair ornament that I have, and she said she wanted one just like it, and of course, the minute she asked for it, the seller went on hiatus to build herself a new workshop.
Dec 13 19:13:49 <Jerusha>   We'll be thinking of you anyway, Jemler
Dec 13 19:13:53 <jemler>   i got side-tracked last week and forgot.
Dec 13 19:14:07 <Evie>   I wondered where you were last week
Dec 13 19:14:11 <DesertRose>   We'll throw some fish your direction anyway, jemler.  :D
Dec 13 19:14:13 <The_Bee>   I may still be in V?ermont on the27th, depending on my sister's convenience.
Dec 13 19:14:33 <Jerusha>   I read that at hair ointment, DR.
Dec 13 19:14:37 <DesertRose>   LOL
Dec 13 19:14:38 <Evie>   I'll probably be here.
Dec 13 19:14:50 <Jerusha>   I should be here.
Dec 13 19:14:50 <Evie>   Ew at hair ointment. LOL
Dec 13 19:15:04 <DesertRose>   I may or may not be here on the 27th, depending on my parents.  That's their wedding anniversary, and they may want to do something like go to supper.
Dec 13 19:15:21 <Annie>   Not sure what my exact plans are for Christmas yet.
Dec 13 19:15:22 <Evie>   might not be here the following Sunday, depending on when we return home from spending New Years weekend in TN
Dec 13 19:15:23 <Jerusha>   It's my Dad's 97th birthday
Dec 13 19:15:38 <Annie>   Except that DD comes home next Sunday, so I'm unlikely to be here then.
Dec 13 19:15:41 <Evie>   wow!
Dec 13 19:15:46 <jemler>   happy anniversary, and happy birthday!
Dec 13 19:15:49 <Annie>   I'll have done a trip to Manchester and back.
Dec 13 19:15:52 <DesertRose>   But then again, they may not.  They confessed a couple of years ago to getting married in the middle of the holiday season so they'd have an excuse to ignore their anniversary.
Dec 13 19:15:55 <Jerusha>   I'm trying to talk him into not driving anymore
Dec 13 19:16:05 <Evie>   How is the uni student, Annie?
Dec 13 19:16:18 <Annie>   She's exhausted.
Dec 13 19:16:26 <DesertRose>   Uni can be exhausting.
Dec 13 19:16:33 <Evie>   Oh dear. Term finals?
Dec 13 19:16:33 <Annie>   She's taken on a lot of playing on top of her studies.
Dec 13 19:16:41 <Jerusha>   Exams before Christmas?
Dec 13 19:16:52 <DesertRose>   Tell that kid to remember to take a nap from time to time.
Dec 13 19:16:54 <Annie>   She has a couple of assignments to finish, but there are concerts and things.
Dec 13 19:17:13 <Annie>   She's in...3 orchestras, a choir, and a string quartet, last time I asked.
Dec 13 19:17:15 <Jerusha>   "Playing" as in music?
Dec 13 19:17:18 <DesertRose>   Holy cow!
Dec 13 19:17:19 <Evie>   Wow
Dec 13 19:17:25 <Annie>   Yeah.
Dec 13 19:17:31 <Jerusha>   Very busy
Dec 13 19:17:32 <Annie>   She's a tad over-committed. ;)
Dec 13 19:17:36 <Evie>   when does she sleep?
Dec 13 19:17:36 <jemler>   kid needs a better agent.
Dec 13 19:17:38 <DesertRose>   Just a little bit
Dec 13 19:17:46 <The_Bee>   when does she find time to breathe?
Dec 13 19:18:08 <Jerusha>   You can breathe if you are playing a string instrument.
Dec 13 19:18:14 <DesertRose>   I didn't know she sang, Annie.  I knew she played multiple instruments.  What voice part?
Dec 13 19:18:20 <Annie>   Her exams are after Christmas, so she needs to study over the holidays, but I suspect the first couple of days will be lying on the sofa with a couple of cats.
Dec 13 19:18:25 <Annie>   She sings alto.
Dec 13 19:18:36 <DesertRose>   That sounds therapeutic, relaxing with kittehs.
Dec 13 19:18:49 <DesertRose>   I do these days.  I was a mezzo soprano until I was about 30.
Dec 13 19:18:50 <Jerusha>   Good for the soul
Dec 13 19:18:53 <Evie>   You've not tried "relaxing" with Luke!
Dec 13 19:19:05 <Annie>   She loves to sing, but hasn't managed a choir concert yet as she keeps being put in the orchestra.
Dec 13 19:19:18 <Annie>   She's done rehearsals with them, though.
Dec 13 19:19:24 <DesertRose>   Cool.  I bet that's fun
Dec 13 19:19:41 <KK>   BRB.  Must fetch tea.
Dec 13 19:19:46 <DesertRose>   I don't sing choral music anymore because my brain still wants to go for the soprano line but my voice is like, nope, sorry, not happening.
Dec 13 19:19:47 <Evie>   ok
Dec 13 19:19:57 <DesertRose>   I still love it though.
Dec 13 19:20:03 <Annie>   Heh
Dec 13 19:20:33 <Annie>   I've been looking around for things to do now she's away from home and I'm actually mostly healthy.
Dec 13 19:20:41 <Annie>   And one of the options is a choir.
Dec 13 19:20:49 <DesertRose>   Speaking of relaxing with kittehs, I may (cross fingers) soon have a kitteh of my own!
Dec 13 19:20:59 <Jerusha>   Oh yea!
Dec 13 19:21:06 <Annie>   Aw
Dec 13 19:21:09 <The_Bee>   Have you not been healthy before,  Annie?
Dec 13 19:21:15 <Evie>   Even when I was a teenager with a Minnie Mouse speaking voice (seriously! I had to consciously lower it to get good theatre roles), I still couldn't hit the high notes when singing, but I did fine as an alto.
Dec 13 19:21:54 <DesertRose>   There is a little gray kitty being fostered who is soon to be spayed and therefore ready to be adopted, and her foster family will contact me tomorrow to tell me when she will be spayed (depends on what appointment the vet has available).
Dec 13 19:21:58 <Jerusha>   A falsetto flamingo, Evie?
Dec 13 19:22:01 <Annie>   Just before DD left for uni, DH got a hacking cough. I lasted 3 weeks before getting it too. It turned out to be whooping cough. (Don't know if you call that pertussis with you?)
Dec 13 19:22:16 <DesertRose>   Pertussis is the technical name for it, yes.
Dec 13 19:22:19 <Annie>   And we are still coughing, however many weeks later.
Dec 13 19:22:23 <DesertRose>   Yikes!
Dec 13 19:22:24 <Evie>   Wow, sorry to hear that!
Dec 13 19:22:31 <Evie>   And yes, it's called either name here
Dec 13 19:22:32 <Jerusha>   Ick, Annie!
Dec 13 19:22:44 <Annie>   But hopefully by the New Year it will have gone for good.
Dec 13 19:23:07 <Annie>   Well, it's not the cough till you see stars and keel over type of cough now, thankfully.
Dec 13 19:23:11 <The_Bee>   I've been seeing ads on tv warning people to protect their babies by getting vaccinated against whooping cough.
Dec 13 19:23:14 <DesertRose>   How did y'all end up with whooping cough?  That's gotten pretty rare since the advent of a vaccine for the nasty thing.
Dec 13 19:23:31 <Annie>   Actually, it's on the rise again.
Dec 13 19:23:37 <Annie>   It has mutated, for one thing.
Dec 13 19:23:50 <DesertRose>   Dratted people who don't want to vaccinate their kids because of that disproven study about autism.
Dec 13 19:23:53 <Annie>   And for another, the effectiveness wears off, so a lot of adults are getting it.
Dec 13 19:23:55 <The_Bee>   andespecially dangerous for infants.
Dec 13 19:23:58 <KK>   I'm back.
Dec 13 19:24:03 <Evie>   I wonder if the vaccine requires a booster shot?  Some vaccines require one now that we didn't realize years ago would need one
Dec 13 19:24:07 <The_Bee>   rehi KK
Dec 13 19:24:09 <DesertRose>   Oh, I didn't know it wore off.  I might ought to look into a booster then.
Dec 13 19:24:12 <DesertRose>   Rehi KK.
Dec 13 19:24:21 <Jerusha>   Rehi KK
Dec 13 19:24:22 <KK>   I'm thinking to get the booster.
Dec 13 19:24:30 <Annie>   Apparently there has been a study of lingering coughs and something like 20% are undiagnosed whooping cough.
Dec 13 19:24:44 <DesertRose>   You definitely don't want the disesase.  Whooping cough sucks a lot by all reports.
Dec 13 19:24:49 <DesertRose>   *disease
Dec 13 19:25:02 <Annie>   It sucks massively.
Dec 13 19:25:24 <KK>   Mine has been lingering all too long.  Some from allergies/post-nasal drip, but I've been wondering if whooping cough could also be part of it.  And even if not, I don't want to get it.
Dec 13 19:25:36 <DesertRose>   I got a tetanus booster a couple of years ago; I think I need to go see my primary care doctor about something else, so I'll ask her about a whooping cough booster.
Dec 13 19:25:38 <Annie>   I didn't leave the house except to take the rubbish out for 4 weeks.
Dec 13 19:25:45 <DesertRose>   Yikes, Annie!
Dec 13 19:25:48 <Evie>   Some lingering coughs are also mycoplasma infections, which I had in the spring for several months and needed two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of.  (The first wasn't strong enough for what I had.)
Dec 13 19:25:58 <Jerusha>   That's no fun at all
Dec 13 19:26:17 <KK>   That may be what my mom had, along with her eventual pneumonia.
Dec 13 19:26:18 <Annie>   I've been nagging DD to get a booster.
Dec 13 19:27:03 <Evie>   Has DH's cough cleared up already, since he came down with it earlier?
Dec 13 19:27:04 <Annie>   Trouble here is getting doctors to take it seriously.
Dec 13 19:27:08 <DesertRose>   Yes, if you and DH have had it, then DD should probably get a booster to avoid getting it herself, and if she's running herself as ragged as you've indicated, then her immune system isn't what it ought to be.
Dec 13 19:27:17 <The_Bee>   I've had flu and pneumonia vaccines this fall, and a tetanus booster a couple of years ago.
Dec 13 19:27:26 <Annie>   Because your chest is clear, and you appear well in between coughing fits.
Dec 13 19:27:36 <DesertRose>   Ugh.
Dec 13 19:27:59 <Annie>   So it's a notifiable disease here, but DH went to the doctor and was just sent away.
Dec 13 19:28:12 <DesertRose>   Holy cow.
Dec 13 19:28:18 <Evie>   wow
Dec 13 19:28:30 <The_Bee>   :(
Dec 13 19:28:55 <Annie>   I've heard stories of people having to get family to video them coughing on a mobile phone and show that to the doctor to be taken seriously.
Dec 13 19:29:05 <DesertRose>   Wow
Dec 13 19:29:17 <Jerusha>   That is not the way it should work
Dec 13 19:29:29 <Evie>   You'd think "I sometimes cough until I nearly pass out" might be sufficient
Dec 13 19:29:43 <Annie>   Yeah.
Dec 13 19:30:04 <Annie>   DH had it worse than me and some nights he was waking at 3 am just unable to breathe.
Dec 13 19:30:06 <DesertRose>   Oh, wow, just noticed something.  The vaccine I got a couple of years ago was probably a Tdap, which includes diphtheria and pertussis in addition to tetanus, so I should actually be okay on the vaccination front.
Dec 13 19:30:24 <Annie>   There were times I thought I'd have to call an ambulance for him.
Dec 13 19:30:31 <Evie>   :-(
Dec 13 19:30:31 <Annie>   Cool, DR.
Dec 13 19:30:34 <DesertRose>   I'll ask my doctor to check my medical records and make sure that's what I got.
Dec 13 19:30:39 <Annie>   I need tetanus, for sure.
Dec 13 19:30:51 <DesertRose>   Yeah, you need a tetanus booster every 10 years.
Dec 13 19:31:04 <Jerusha>   My mibbit is being odd.  I'm going to drop then come back in
Dec 13 19:31:10 *   Jerusha has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
Dec 13 19:31:11 <Evie>   OK Jerusha
Dec 13 19:31:22 <Annie>   Yeah, my last one was before DD was born.
Dec 13 19:31:25 <DesertRose>   Mine is on the 6s.
Dec 13 19:31:29 <Annie>   Like probably years before.
Dec 13 19:31:50 *   Jerusha (Mibbit@OWIRCN-a7de4307.dsl.bell.ca) has joined
Dec 13 19:31:58 <The_Bee>   rehi jerusha
Dec 13 19:32:08 <Evie>   wb
Dec 13 19:32:11 <DesertRose>   16, 26, 36, and I won't need it again (hopefully) until I'm 46.
Dec 13 19:32:11 <Jerusha>   Hopefully things will work better now
Dec 13 19:32:17 <DesertRose>   Rehi Jerusha.
Dec 13 19:32:31 <jemler>   wb jerusha
Dec 13 19:33:02 <jemler>   for the eval i hAD to get both pneumonia vaxs as well as shinhles vax.
Dec 13 19:33:20 <jemler>   shingles, sorry
Dec 13 19:33:20 <DesertRose>   I haven't had a pneumonia vaccine or shingles.
Dec 13 19:33:24 <Annie>   Didn't know you could get a shingles vaccine.
Dec 13 19:33:31 <DesertRose>   I may not need the shingles vaccine because I've never had chicken pox.
Dec 13 19:33:42 <Jerusha>   You can, but I'm not sure how effective it is
Dec 13 19:33:46 <Evie>   It's basically the same vaccine, isn't it?
Dec 13 19:33:48 <Annie>   You can have silent CP, apparently.
Dec 13 19:33:50 <jemler>   in the states you have to be ober 50. you need a rx if under 60.
Dec 13 19:33:54 <DesertRose>   You can over here, and they've been making a big fuss about it particularly toward the baby boomers.
Dec 13 19:33:57 <The_Bee>   I'm not sure what diseases I had as a child.
Dec 13 19:34:04 <Evie>   varicella vaccine for either Chicken Pox or shingles
Dec 13 19:34:18 <DesertRose>   It may be the same vaccine, Evie.
Dec 13 19:34:20 <jemler>   shingles is zoster.
Dec 13 19:34:27 <DesertRose>   Varicella zoster, yes.
Dec 13 19:34:41 <Annie>   DD had shingles when she was 7, which apparently makes her unlikely to get it as an adult. So I've been told, anyway.
Dec 13 19:34:59 <jemler>   pneumovax and prevnar 13 for pneu.
Dec 13 19:35:02 <Evie>   I know both my kids had the chicken pox vaccine, which wasn't available when I was a kid
Dec 13 19:35:08 <DesertRose>   That's unusual for a young person to get shingles.  It's usually a middle-aged or older person disease.
Dec 13 19:35:21 <jemler>   get her checked, justto be sure.
Dec 13 19:35:24 <DesertRose>   DD had chicken pox, because the vaccine came out RIGHT after she had the disease itself.
Dec 13 19:35:54 <Annie>   Yeah. She had cp at 10 months (we don't get the vaccine here), which apparently makes early shingles more likely too.
Dec 13 19:35:59 <The_Bee>   I'm starting to understand why I see so many commercials for shingles and pertussis vaccines.
Dec 13 19:36:03 <DesertRose>   I mean, like two months after she had chicken pox, the CDC announced the vaccine was available.
Dec 13 19:36:26 <Evie>   I didn't get chicken pox until I was 28, but fortunately it was a mild case. My mom somehow avoided getting it until her 60s, but fortunately she didn't have any of the bad side effects seniors can get with it
Dec 13 19:36:40 <Jerusha>   All three DSs had chicken pox - one right after the other
Dec 13 19:36:46 <jemler>   pittsburgh wanted me to get tyhem before transplant. after tx would be too late. now, of course, no tx.
Dec 13 19:36:50 <DesertRose>   I was scared TO DEATH when she caught chicken pox because it's apparently way worse in adults than in kids, but I didn't get it from her.
Dec 13 19:36:52 <KK>   I had chicken pox, long about 4-5 grade, as I recall.  So I've definitely had the shingles vaccine.
Dec 13 19:37:09 <jemler>   6th grade
Dec 13 19:37:24 <Jerusha>   Kindergarten
Dec 13 19:37:38 <jemler>   german measles 5th grade
Dec 13 19:37:38 <DesertRose>   The kids that my babysitter minded all had it but not me, and then it made the rounds of my first grade class but I never caught it or at least never had any symptoms.
Dec 13 19:37:39 <The_Bee>   don't know when or if
Dec 13 19:37:43 <KK>   Cameron had chicken pox twice, poor thing.
Dec 13 19:37:49 <DesertRose>   Oh, poor Cam.
Dec 13 19:37:51 <Annie>   I had it when I was 9. I don't know what grade that is.
Dec 13 19:37:59 <DesertRose>   About second or third, Annie.
Dec 13 19:38:03 <jemler>   three here usually.
Dec 13 19:38:10 *   DomMelchior (Mibbit@OWIRCN-ddca4984.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) has joined
Dec 13 19:38:13 <DesertRose>   Hi DomMelchior
Dec 13 19:38:14 <jemler>   hi dm
Dec 13 19:38:16 <The_Bee>   Hi Dom
Dec 13 19:38:19 <Jerusha>   Hi DM
Dec 13 19:38:25 <Annie>   A blood test would show it, DR.
Dec 13 19:38:25 <DomMelchior>   G'Evenin' all!
Dec 13 19:38:38 <Annie>   It's possible to have it and not show symptoms, though rare.
Dec 13 19:38:46 <Evie>   I was teaching French in an after school care program at the time, and this little spotted kindergartener came up to  me and asked, "Mrs French Lady, have you had chicken pox? If not, you will."  And sure enough, a few days later....
Dec 13 19:38:59 <DesertRose>   I might ought to ask my doctor to run that bloodwork, then.
Dec 13 19:39:11 <Jerusha>   Oh dear, Evie!
Dec 13 19:39:18 <Evie>   Hi Dom
Dec 13 19:39:30 <DesertRose>   It's like that scene in "Practical Magic."  "I hope you get---chicken pox!"
Dec 13 19:39:32 <Annie>   Here it's just something kids get.
Dec 13 19:39:35 <jemler>   yolu might ought shoulda coulda woulda.
Dec 13 19:39:48 <Annie>   People have chicken pox parties so their kids can get it over with.
Dec 13 19:39:58 <Jerusha>   Yes
Dec 13 19:40:08 <jemler>   i loved the scene when she blre the candle alight in front of her kids! :)
Dec 13 19:40:09 <DesertRose>   DD was in day care from age 6 weeks, so she caught everything.
Dec 13 19:40:15 <DesertRose>   That was cute, jemler.
Dec 13 19:40:34 <Evie>   Not a good idea. Most kids get through chicken pox with no lasting ill effects, but there's the occasional child in whom it turns life threatening
Dec 13 19:40:38 <The_Bee>   When I was kid, many diseases were things you just  expected kids to get.
Dec 13 19:41:01 <DesertRose>   Yeah, both my parents were vaccinated for polio and smallpox and that's about it.
Dec 13 19:41:04 <Jerusha>   True, Bee
Dec 13 19:41:14 <Evie>   though at least it's not as bad as the measles parties some parents thought would be a good idea, since measles is a LOT worse!
Dec 13 19:41:22 <Jerusha>   Yikes!
Dec 13 19:41:24 <DesertRose>   You can still see the scar from Mom's smallpox shot on her arm.
Dec 13 19:41:28 <Annie>   Yeah. I worked with several hundred kids in my old job, and I knew of 2 or 3 hospitalisations because of it, and one death through complications.
Dec 13 19:41:30 <Jerusha>   Not my idea of a party
Dec 13 19:41:35 <DomMelchior>   And of course once you've had it you get to look forward to a one in three chance of shingles as an adult
Dec 13 19:41:37 <Evie>   I have a smallpox vaccine scar
Dec 13 19:41:43 <KK>   Are you sure it isn't German measles parties, Annie?  We had them here, so girls, especially, could get German measles and then not have to worry about it while pregnant, since it can cause hideous birth defects.
Dec 13 19:41:45 <Evie>   it's faint, but it's there
Dec 13 19:41:49 <jemler>   the city nurse had to sit on my sister just to give her the oral vaccine! :)
Dec 13 19:41:50 <Annie>   I have a smallpox vaccine scar, too.
Dec 13 19:41:59 <Annie>   Nope. Chicken pox.
Dec 13 19:42:24 <Annie>   Kids here get the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella), so german measles is rare here.
Dec 13 19:42:46 <DesertRose>   Yeah, we do MMR too.
Dec 13 19:43:04 <Annie>   In my day, girls got the rubella single vaccine at school at 11 or 12.
Dec 13 19:43:07 <Evie>   The measles parties that made the news were during the outbreak of measles here in parts of the US a year or two ago, and they were anti-vaxxers who thought that would be a good alternative to vaccines
Dec 13 19:43:08 <DesertRose>   I had the MMR vaccination and so did DD.
Dec 13 19:43:13 <KK>   I think the smallpox vaccination almost always leaves at least a small scar.  I had mine on my hip, where it wouldn't show.
Dec 13 19:43:46 <Jerusha>   Better than getting smallpox
Dec 13 19:43:50 <The_Bee>   I had a rash in 6th grade, but my doctor refused to say if it was rubella. Apparently there are several diseases with similar symptoms.
Dec 13 19:43:51 <Evie>   Mine was done when I was a baby or toddler. It's a very faint scar on my upper arm
Dec 13 19:43:55 <DesertRose>   Mom's is on her upper arm, but you really wouldn't notice it unless she pointed it out to you. It's a little bitty round thing.  I just know it's there because I'm her kid and I've seen her in no sleeves.
Dec 13 19:43:58 <jemler>   i remember getting one in my upper left arm when i was about 5. you can still see a faint scar.
Dec 13 19:44:09 <Evie>   almost gone now
Dec 13 19:44:24 <Annie>   Mine is right next to my BCG (tuberculosis) scar.
Dec 13 19:44:35 <The_Bee>   I had to get smallpox vaccine more than once. Firsttime didn'ttake.
Dec 13 19:44:38 <DesertRose>   If you're going to notice a scar on my mom, you're actually going to see the surgical scar from her pacemaker insertion first.  :)
Dec 13 19:44:48 <KK>   You have a tuberculosis scar?
Dec 13 19:44:48 <Annie>   Which also used to be given routinely in schools.
Dec 13 19:44:54 <Annie>   The vaccine, KK.
Dec 13 19:45:07 <Annie>   Everyone used to be given it at 12 or 13.
Dec 13 19:45:16 <Evie>   I also got my oral polio vaccine when I was so young, I spit out the sugar they tried to give me, so they gave it to me in water instead.  When I heard that as an older child, I was sad I'd wasted that sugar! :-D
Dec 13 19:45:26 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie.
Dec 13 19:45:26 <KK>   And you got a scar from a shot?  Never heard of that.
Dec 13 19:45:29 <Annie>   Doesn't happen now, though, because of cost-cutting, but TB is on the rise again, so who knows.
Dec 13 19:45:57 <DesertRose>   When DD got her oral polio vaccine, she loved it.  It was hands down the easiest part of getting her vaccinations into her.
Dec 13 19:46:00 <Annie>   Yes, BCG was one that left a scar. As I say, it's right next to my small pox one. :)
Dec 13 19:46:02 <jemler>   imagine if Cinhil had had that shot.
Dec 13 19:46:26 <DesertRose>   If Rhys had had access to modern vaccination, you can bet your patootie he'd have used them.
Dec 13 19:46:29 <The_Bee>   Remind me-what did Cinhil die of?
Dec 13 19:46:31 <DesertRose>   TB
Dec 13 19:46:46 <DesertRose>   Consumption, which is the same thing, just an older name for it.
Dec 13 19:46:51 <jemler>   i think they used to call it consumption.
Dec 13 19:46:56 <Jerusha>   I do have to re-read that series
Dec 13 19:47:10 <Evie>   So do I
Dec 13 19:47:16 <Evie>   any news on the ebooks, KK?
Dec 13 19:47:20 <jemler>   another priest they interviewed had it.
Dec 13 19:47:33 <Evie>   or even the audio, hopefully with another reader?
Dec 13 19:47:47 <Jerusha>   Or the Road to Killingford?
Dec 13 19:47:54 <KK>   When they first developed polio vaccine, it was a series of three shots.  THen the oral variety came out, usually given on a sugar cube.  But I can remember summertimes, when we couldn't go to the local pool, for fear of polio.
Dec 13 19:48:02 <DesertRose>   They used to send TB patients to my home state because the warm (hot) dry air was thought to be better for the lungs and easier to breathe.
Dec 13 19:48:09 <Annie>   There you go  http://www.sciencephoto.com/image/476203/530wm/C0141852-BCG_vaccination_scar-SPL.jpg
Dec 13 19:48:21 <DesertRose>   My home state being Arizona.
Dec 13 19:48:27 <Annie>   Mine is even puckered like that one. Must be characteristic.
Dec 13 19:48:34 <KK>   The e-books are in production, that's all I know.
Dec 13 19:48:50 <DesertRose>   I think my mom had the injected polio vaccine, but I think her younger brother got the sugar cubes.
Dec 13 19:49:06 <The_Bee>   I had the injected kind.
Dec 13 19:49:10 <Annie>   Anyway, I've stayed way longer than I intended, so this delivery had better not come at 7 am!
Dec 13 19:49:11 <Jerusha>   I remember getting the sugar cube
Dec 13 19:49:21 <Evie>   I'll have to keep looking out fo the ebook version
Dec 13 19:49:24 <DesertRose>   I don't know how they administered mine, but DD's polio vaccine was in a little plastic capsule that the nurse snapped open and just kind of shot into DD's mouth.
Dec 13 19:49:39 <DesertRose>   Okay, night, Annie.
Dec 13 19:49:44 <Annie>   So I shall love you and leave you. :)
Dec 13 19:49:46 <Annie>   Night all.
Dec 13 19:49:48 <The_Bee>   nighters, Annie
Dec 13 19:49:52 <Evie>   will the publisher let you know when the ebooks are released, KK, or will you just find out when readers tell you?  :-D
