[16:16] <Matt> Hi KK
[16:17] <KK> Hi, Matt.

[16:17] <judyward>  Hi, KK
[16:17] <Shiral> Hello, everyone
[16:17] <KK> Looks like folk didn't remember that this is the early Sunday.
[16:17] <judyward> Hi, Sheral
[16:17] <Matt> Hi Shiral
[16:17] <KK> Hi, Shiral.
[16:18] <judyward> I actually DID for once.
[16:18] »» Shiral snaps fingers and stocks tea table with iced tea and shortbread and scones
[16:18] <KK> Thata sounds yummy.
[16:18] <Shiral> Hi KK, how was Dragoncon?
[16:18] <Matt> That sounds yummy
[16:18] <judyward> Was it a good con?
[16:19] <KK> I, for my part, have just been watching Evensong at Duke University Chapel, where the granddaughter of dear friends was just baptizedd.  Lovely service.
[16:19] <Shiral> Nice introduction for the new arrival
[16:19] <Matt> Sounds wonderful
[16:20] <KK> (That's a Welsh baptism, with the dd ending.)
[16:20] <Shiral> Hope they did it caerphilly
[16:21] <judyward> Missed that one when I read it!
[16:22] <KK> They did.  And the father of the baby is also the chief organist for the chapel, though he was conducting the choir today, with one of the assistant organists playing.  Well done, all of them!

[16:23] <KK> ello, Bee.
[16:23] <Shiral> So what is the baby's name?
[16:24] <KK> And yes, Dragoncon was a great wind-down from what has been going on--though I am elated to report that as of Wednesday, Mother's apartment is now officially cleared!
[16:24] <Bee> Hi KK! Iwas having trouble getting here.  I could see the chatters, but my keystrokes weren't aappearing on-screen.
[16:24] <Shiral> Hello Bee
[16:24] <KK> Finley Elizabeth.
[16:24] <Matt> No bynw today?
[16:24] <Bee> What baby
[16:24] <Bee> Whose baby?
[16:25] <Shiral> That's a good item to tick off your to-do, list
[16:25] <KK> Granddaughter of dear friends here in Staunton.
[16:25] <Bee> Bynw is here
[16:25] <Matt> I saw some awesome cosplay on Facebook from the Dragon con
[16:25] <Shiral> Nice name =o)
[16:26] <KK> There was some excellent costuming.  And Dragoncon is one of the best people-watching venues ever.
[16:26] <Matt> The Atreyu and Artax had me in tears
[16:26] <Bee> Is Finley a family name?
[16:27] <KK> I think it must be, on her mother's side.  Mother's name is Mary Grey--good old Southern name.
[16:28] <Bee> any relation to Warin de Grey?
[16:28] <Bee> :)
[16:28] <KK> Not likely, as I doubt he ever went south of the Mason-Dixon line.
[16:29] <judyward> Only if he was chasing Deryni
[16:29] <Bee> or west of the Atalantic Ocean
[16:30] <Shiral> Who knows where Warin might have ended up? Or what his state of mind was when he got there. He was a man who could accept the possibility that he was wrong, but I wouldn't call him particularly well balanced, emotionally
[16:30] <judyward> That's him
[16:31] <Shiral> Fanatical personalities aren't so easily shaken
[16:32] <Bee> Maybe not, but he did yield to evidence when he saw it for himself.
[16:34] <Bee> I sometimes wished Warin had met Jehana.  He of all people could have understood what she was going through trying to accept her own Deryniness.
[16:34] <Shiral> He converted when necessary, certainly. But after Wencit was defeated....evidently he disappeared from Gwynedd. What prompted him to do that?
[16:34] <judyward> True
[16:35] <judyward> Iwas just thimking that
[16:35] <Bee> Maybe he felt the need to go away and think things over.
[16:35] <Shiral> Barrett deLaney and Father Nivard seem to have had more success in that regard than Brion and Kelson had
[16:35] <KK> He could have been killed while making his escape.
[16:36] <Shiral> Well, that's possible.
[16:36] <judyward> yes
[16:36] <KK> (Saves me from having to come up with a more interesting explanation.) ;-)
[16:36] <Bee> Well, it's up to KK whether we ever see him again or not.
[16:36] <judyward> But someone in the next book, I think, said he "bolted" from the alliance
[16:37] <Shiral> Well, perhaps Warin took vows in the Fratri Silentii. =o)
[16:37] <judyward> He got caught with someone's Deryni daughter and killed.
[16:37] <KK> That would have saved him from having to justify his earlier actions.
[16:38] <Shiral> Could be that he had a crisis of emotion, unable to resolve the difference between his fanaticism and the truth.
[16:38] <Bee> I prefer the Fratri Silentii scenario.
[16:39] <Bee> Would a true fanatic have accepted the truth?
[16:39] <Matt> Probably not
[16:39] <Shiral> Perhaps his fanaticism reasserted itself?
[16:40] <Matt> Look at general fanaticism in the world today.
[16:40] <Bee> or took him in a different direction
[16:40] <Shiral> Fanaticism definitely causes problems, whatever the faith of the fanatic happens to be
[16:41] <Matt> People would rather hide behind a lie than accept the truth
[16:41] <judyward> True
[16:41] <Shiral> Kelson  doesn't seem all that worried about not knowing where Warin went
[16:41] <Bee> But Warin DID accept an unwelcome truth.
[16:41] <judyward> No, he doesn't
[16:42] <Shiral> Or else he just  feels there are bigger, more immediate things he needed to think about. LIke....Torenth.
[16:42] <KK> I think Kelson had more pressing worries at the moment, though I suspect that he and Alaric and Duncan had more than one speculation session over drinks in front of a fire on a cold winter's night.
[16:43] <Bee> and Nigel
[16:44] <KK> Probably so.
[16:44] <Shiral> "So what do we do if Warin shows up again and starts speaking against Deryni?"
[16:45] <Bee> goes the other way and becomes fanatical in the opposite direction
[16:46] <Bee> or he...
[16:46] <Shiral> Shows up at the Schola, wanting Healing lessons?
[16:47] <Bee> so, KK, did Dragon Con help you reconect with your writing?
[16:48] <Laurna> Hello everyone
[16:48] <Bee> Hi Laurna
[16:48] <Shiral> Hi Laurna
[16:48] <Matt> Hi Laurna
[16:48] <KK> It did, Bee.  And writers of the Future (for which I am now a judge) wants one of my short stories to reprint in a WOF anthology, for pay,  This is good!
[16:48] <Laurna> It is such a beautiful day, I was outside playing with the horses
[16:48] <Bee> Very good!
[16:49] <Matt> Sounds awesome KK
[16:49] <Laurna> That is awesome KK
[16:49] <Bee> Remind me--where is Dragoncon held?
[16:49] <KK> Atlanta.
[16:49] <judyward> Oh, that's nice, KK!
[16:49] <Bee> Were you affected by Dorian?
[16:49] <Matt> Sure wish I could go one of these years
[16:50] <judyward> Must have been anxious not knowing where that blow-hard, Dorian would go.
[16:51] <Bee> The size of Dragoncon feels a bit intimidating to me.
[16:51] <judyward> Is it the largest Con?
[16:51] <Laurna> From the photo images it looked to me like Dragoncon was very well attended.
[16:51] <KK> It's always a mob scent.  I heard there were 85,000 attendees, though I can't thank that could be correct.  Still, a very big convention, with lots of tracks.  And I had an electric scooter to take the strain out of going from location to location.  Even got over to the dealers' buiding--all 3 floors of it!
[16:51] <Laurna> WOW
[16:51] <Matt> Wow!
[16:51] <Shiral> Sounds good, KK!
[16:51] <Bee> Deodorant should help with the mob scent.
[16:52] <Matt> lol
[16:52] <judyward> LOL!
[16:52] <KK> would you believe a scene?
[16:52] <Shiral> Wow, SERIOUS Fan shopping
[16:52] <Laurna> LOL
[16:53] <Shiral> Hope the Hurricane associated weather wasn't a problem  last weekend.
[16:53] <KK> We watched it faithfully, but middle Georgia was never in danger.
[16:54] <Matt> That's good
[16:54] <KK> Can't believe it dat on the Bahamas for essentially 2 days.  Tricky storm.
[16:54] <KK> sat
[16:54] <Bee> Has anyone heard from Desert Rose?  She was planning to shelter in place.
[16:55] <Shiral> Poor Bahamas. They really got clobbered
[16:55] <KK> She was going to a friend's, to shelter in place.  Haven't heard if she's home yet or not.
[16:55] <Laurna> out of 85000 attendees, I am thinking you had plenty of people to chat with and eat meals with.  Some day I would like to go too.
[16:55] <Shiral> She's okay, Bee. The hurricane didn't make landfall where she was
[16:55] <Shiral> She's with her daughter whose birthday is today
[16:55] <judyward> She said her daughter is having a birthday party today
[16:56] <Matt> My dad works in the passport part of the government and told me they had closed several local offices on the east coast
[16:56] <Laurna> DR said she was taking her daughter out today
[16:56] <Bee> Oh yes, I think she mentioned that.
[16:56] <KK> I actually did most of my eating in the con's hospitality room. Always good chow, and it's free.
[16:56] <Shiral> Good combination of factors
[16:56] <Bee> Free chow is good.
[16:56] <judyward> Yes!
[16:57] <Shiral> GOOD free chow is even better
[16:57] <Laurna> That is where I like to eat at our little convention. always good people aroudn
[16:57] <KK> It was good.
[16:57] <Matt> They were expecting more people to man them but I guess quite a few people from his department actually took vacation time to travel to the Bahamas to see the hurricane.
[16:57] <Bee> see and help, I hope
[16:58] <Laurna> Wait people travelet to SEE the hurricane?  That is nuts
[16:58] <Matt> I hope they helped
[16:58] <Matt> One of them is an amateur surfer he said
[16:58] <KK> I expect it was to see the aftermath....
[16:58] <judyward> Going to need a lot of cleaning up.
[16:59] <Matt> Yes they are
[16:59] <Bee> There were ssome heart-breaking stories of loved one lost.
[16:59] <Matt> The wall the eye had was just baffling
[16:59] <judyward> Many tragedies and probably some miraculous saves
[16:59] <Laurna> I have never been in a hurricane but I have been in a few tropical storms on the boat.  No Thank you to anything worse than that.
[17:00] <KK> Always goes along with a storm like this.  Not that there have been many storms like this, thank God.
[17:00] <Bee> Who was the chef who went there to feed the responders?
[17:00] <Shiral> Don't want to experience a hurricane. OR a TOrnado.
[17:00] <Matt> This Old House on PBS they try to build hurricane resistant houses
[17:00] <Laurna> Agreed Shiral
[17:00] <Shiral> Jose Andres, I think his name is
[17:01] <Bee> Thanks , shiral
[17:01] <Shiral> But I'm not 100% sure
[17:02] <Laurna> It is not just the wind but the water surge takes out everything. Unless you build a submarine home.
[17:02] <Bee> Scientists are speculating that such storms may be more frequent.
[17:02] <KK> I was born during a hurricane, and have been through a few.  My parents used to tell of bracing themselves against the walls of the porch attached to the trailer where we then lived.  Now, <that> would be scary.
[17:02] <Laurna> yikes
[17:02] <judyward> That would be scary!
[17:02] <Matt> That does sound scary
[17:03] <Matt> My great uncle lived through the Greensburg tornado
[17:03] <Bee> So you started life as a trailer treasure, KK?
[17:03] <Matt> He was county commissioner at the time.
[17:03] <judyward> We've lived in trailers twice.
[17:04] <Shiral>  I'll stick to Earthquakes, thanks
[17:05] <judyward> Don't like those, either
[17:05] <Shiral> But clearly you're a survivor, KK
[17:05] <Shiral> BRB, Pygmy Lions are circling
[17:05] <Laurna> And a lady of great imagination and talent.
[17:05] <Matt> That she is!
[17:06] <judyward> Yep!
[17:06] <judyward> T2 is having a cow to get her dinner, so BRB.
[17:06] <KK> Storm surge <is> scary.  When I was in Florida to deal with my father's ashes, I was down on the edge of Biscayne Bay and was appalled to see water standing on the parking lot at a beach where we used to go--and that was only tidal surge.  But there's no question but that water levels are rising, and land is being lost.  I don't know how long that parking lot will be able to survive.  And it's all mangrove swamp around that area, which is see
[17:06] <Matt> Wow
[17:07] <KK> We moved into the ouse my parents built when I was starting 1st grade.
[17:07] <KK> house
[17:07] <Laurna> Are you the oldsest KK?
[17:07] <KK> Yes.
[17:08] <Laurna> Of your siblings I mean
[17:08] <Matt> Jen has family in Tampa Bay and they act like Hurricanes are just like any day of the week.
[17:08] <KK> Yes.  I have a full sister and a half-sister.
[17:09] <Laurna> All girls, That must have been fun. Fighting fun that is.
[17:09] <Bee> Is the half  your mom's or dad's?
[17:10] <KK> Dad's.
[17:10] <Laurna> My sister and I shared a room growing up so we fought alot. Once we moved away we became best friends.
[17:11] <Bee> I shred a doublebed with one sise.  Lots of fighting over  "You're on my side!"
[17:11] <Laurna> lol
[17:11] <Bee> shared. not shredded
[17:11] <judyward> Did you shred many beds?
[17:12] <Bee> No but Melantha has shredded several sheets.
[17:12] <Laurna> some typos are meant to be. LOL

[17:15] »» Laurna giggles
[17:15] <Matt> My family are all sick of my puns
[17:15] <Matt> lol
[17:15] <Shiral> I had my own room as did my sister. My brothers got bunkbeds in the larger room
[17:16] <Laurna> We load up the fish launcher around here , so pun away.
[17:16] <Shiral> We're being visited by the spirit of Jemler, perhaps
[17:16] <Laurna> My brothers were 15 years apart so they each had their own room.
[17:17] <judyward> My 5 yrs younger brother & I shared a bed room a couple of times in our family moves.
[17:17] <Shiral> Dmitri waits until I've turned out the lights then crawls onto my pillow. Unfortunately, he likes to give me a scalp massage which is a painful form of love from a creature with claws
[17:17] <Matt> My brother in law runs our d&d game and had us visit the god Loki. Loki gave me a weapon called "Loki charms"
[17:18] <Laurna> SIGH
[17:18] <KK> My sister and I shared a room untio I started medical school, when we sacrificed our den so I could have the privacy to study at all hours.
[17:18] <Bee> Melantha hops on the bed when I'm trying to make it.
[17:18] <Shiral> Groooaaaann, Matt!
[17:18] <Matt> Sorry
[17:18] <judyward> You need a study place in med school
[17:18] <KK> Launch the fish!
[17:19] <Laurna> armed and aiming
[17:19] »» Shiral sends a trout into Matt's corner of the chat room
[17:19] <Matt> the "scales" have turned against me!
[17:20] <Shiral> You're not making this any easier for yourself, Matt
[17:20] <Bee> Try scaling the waall to escape.
[17:21] <Shiral> We've got you on the hook
[17:21] <judyward> Les Miserables is on some channel Lou found
[17:24] <Laurna> Reel him in.
[17:25] <Laurna> For Halloween this year, we are going to do a Pirates theme.
[17:25] <Bee> Yo-ho-ho!
[17:25] <Laurna> having lots of fun making pirate stuff for our skellitons.
[17:26] <KK> That could be....interesting.
[17:26] <Bee> Do any of you have "talk-like-a pirate" Fridays?
[17:27] <Matt> lok
[17:27] <Laurna> the parlor will be the captains treasure room. the first mate will be jumping out at any children that get too near to the chest of gold
[17:27] <KK> Not too much Halloween stuff going on here, though the local businesses have a day for little kids, who can go from store to store and get goodies.
[17:27] <Shiral> I'm so unready for Halloween
[17:27] <judyward> Businesses in little Hutto do that, too. Not many trick-or-treaters.
[17:28] <Shiral> Not that I do all that much, anyway
[17:28] <Bee> I've never had a trick-or-treater in all the years I've lived in Boston.
[17:28] <Laurna> Right Shiral.  Just started up two weeks ago. and I am having fun with it.
[17:28] <KK> I've never been that into Halloween, once I got to be about 10.
[17:28] <Shiral> I have a number of young families in my neighborhood, but I'm often working until after nine pm on Halloween night.
[17:28] <Laurna> Come to my sisters house.  We get about 300 people through
[17:29] <judyward> Wow!!

[17:29] <Shiral>  I do try to do a short Hallween themed video with my little houses, though. Which always takes longer than I think it will.
[17:30] <Bee> One year I escorted my littlesisterand herfriend when they went trick-or -treat for UNICEF.
[17:30] <Laurna> I love your video's, shiral
[17:30] <judyward> Where do you post them?
[17:30] <~bynw> hi everyone. i forgot this was early chat today. but i haven't been feeling well at all.
[17:30] <judyward> Sorry to hear that, bynw
[17:30] <Bee> Too bad. :(
[17:31] <Matt> Sorry bynw
[17:31] <Laurna> Bynw  you are sooooo BAAAAD!
[17:32] <Laurna> Not about feeling ill. Sorry about that part. hope you feel better soon.
[17:32] <~bynw> KK, this weekend saw a chili cook off from the International Chili Society. And our own MAK is one of the judges. She was there. Had a chance to go to the cook off since it as just 20 minutes away from me and see her.

[17:32] <Goatmistress> hi
[17:32] <judyward> Hi GM
[17:32] <KK> Since I'm not that into Halloween, I think I'll sign off and go get some dinner.  I'm still decompressing from that final push to get LBM's apartment cleared, so I think I'll veg out for a couple of hours in front of the TV and then go to bed early.  I'm back to not sleeping well, though I hope that will improve with time.  I was just getting back to more normal sleeping hours when Mother took her fall.
[17:32] <Matt> Hi Goatmistress
[17:33] <judyward> Have a good week, KK
[17:33] <Matt> Have a good one KK

[17:34] <KK> It does get better.  I know that.  One must just be patient, and kind to one's self.
