[17:51] <Rambart20> awesome!
[17:51] <Shiral> Hello Katherine
[17:51] <KK> Mind you, I haven't had time yet to test the "new" CD writer.
[17:51] <KK> Haven't a clue whether this one works or not.
[17:51] *** Bynw|dinner sets mode: +o KK
[17:52] *** Bynw|dinner is now known as Bynw
[17:52] <Wrengl> hi Katherine
[17:52] <KK> Goner was gone relatively easily; it was only then that I discovered that my CD writer didn't.
[17:52] *** ash  Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[17:52] <virtualbabe> I've yet to try out my CD burner
[17:52] <lbarms> OK, we need Tika to sign on to break the record
[17:52] <Shiral> Glad to hear about the computer coming home from the hospital, KK
[17:52] <RainbowDragon> Bynw, we've tied the record!
[17:52] *** scribbler|napping is now known as scribbler
[17:52] <Bynw> I see that
[17:52] <KK> Wow, napping, eating....
[17:52] <Martine> CD burners are a godsend.
[17:52] <hygilac> get tika back on
[17:52] <Bynw> Hiyas Katherine *hugs*
[17:52] * scribbler sends greetings to KK and anyone else who came in recently....
[17:53] <KK> And Kiri's away....
[17:53] <hygilac> Shiral is feeding cats
[17:53] <virtualbabe> Or we would have if peer hadn't got ash
[17:53] <Shiral> No I'm not.
[17:53] <Martine> Has anyone heard how Kiri is feeling?
[17:53] <Shiral> I've completed that task
[17:53] <the_Bee> why would you want to burn your CD's?
[17:53] <Bynw> Hiyas Ann and everyone that's come in since i've been out :-)
[17:53] <lbarms> peer has been verra verra bad to ash tonight
[17:53] <hygilac> lol bee
[17:53] <KK> I was trying to use mine to back up my data files.
[17:53] <Shiral> Peer is always bad to Ash
[17:53] <scribbler> KK -- want to wish you Happy Christmas, since I won't be in next week....
[17:53] <Golux> Raymond is having a birthday party in the other room so the GHO isn't here
[17:54] <KK> Thanks, Scribs.
[17:54] <scribbler> What number, Golux....
[17:54] <hygilac> happy b'day to GHO]
[17:54] <KK> Laura, how are things Not-in-Kansas?
[17:54] <Kelos_al-Hazar> "Burn" as in create one.
[17:54] <Bynw> LOL
[17:54] <lbarms> quiet right now
[17:54] <Golux> age or teenagers in the house?
[17:54] <scribbler> age... ;)
[17:55] <Shiral> Both,
[17:55] <KK> Good.  May it stay that way.  Silent night, and all that....
[17:55] <Golux> He is now 16
[17:55] <Wrengl> bee you can make music cds OR use a cd for data storage (like I have my world's encyclopedia on one)
[17:55] <KK> 16?  Yike!
[17:55] *** ash  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:55] <hygilac> ooh, drivers licence here he comes
[17:55] <ash> back!
[17:55] <Shiral> Wow....
[17:55] <scribbler> Ah, sweet sixteen and never been.....errrr, never mind.....
[17:55] <Rambart20> he's back!!
[17:55] <KK> Hi, Ash.
[17:55] * virtualbabe giggles
[17:55] * Bynw giggles @ scribs
[17:55] <Shiral> KK, any writing get done this week?
[17:55] * Martine adds her giggles
[17:55] <lbarms> yes KK
[17:56] <KK> As a matter of fact, yes.
[17:56] <Martine> Do tell!
[17:56] <Shiral> Good!
[17:56] <Wrengl> good kk
[17:56] <virtualbabe> YAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!
[17:56] <hygilac> yes please
[17:56] <Rambart20> cool!
[17:56] <KK> Nothing finished, though.  It's a wonder I even wrote, wobbling between two computers.
[17:56] <Shiral> Terrific, in fact
[17:56] <KK> And now I have to re-enter all my address books and such.  Yuck!
[17:56] <Shiral> We salute you for the accomplishment, nonetheless
[17:56] <lbarms> KK the computer tightrope walker
[17:56] <Martine> I feel for you, KK. I've had to do that too many times!
[17:56] <KK> Hopefully, no more--at least for a while.
[17:56] <Martine> It's even more fun during Christmas card season.
[17:57] * Shiral crosses her fingers that KK's computers will settle down and behave well
[17:57] <Sedina> Oh, bite your tongue Martine!  *l*
[17:57] * Martine grins
[17:57] <KK> It wouldn't have been so bad, if it hadn't turned out that the CD writer wasn't right from the start.  But I hadn't had a chance to play with it yet.  Still haven't.
[17:57] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: Simplification of that: have everyone who was on your addressbook e-mail you. :)
[17:58] <hygilac> well, then the virus may have been a blessing in disguise
[17:58] <hygilac> at least a minor one
[17:58] <scribbler> Should ask my dad-in-law if he's tested his CD writer yet -- he has a similar model to yours, I believe....
[17:58] <KK> Tomorrow, though.  Today, I just switched the two machines and got the new one back on line, updated Norton--that sort of stuff.
[17:58] <KK> And how, o great and wise Kelos, am I to let them know that they need to e-mail me?
[17:58] <lbarms> but kelos, if the one that sent her the virus e-mails her again....
[17:59] <Shiral> KK, Question for you, when you think of "Healer's Green" what shade of green do you see in your mind's eye?
[17:59] <Kelos_al-Hazar> She'll be armored this time...
[17:59] <Wrengl> katherine are you taking a leaf from Isaac Asimov's book? one computer per work project?  Like he used to have one story/novel per Selectric Typewriter?
[17:59] <KK> I was dumb.  She'd "sent" me about 6 copies of what appeared to be the same message--a dead giveaway--and I went ahead and opened one anyway because I knew the sender.
[17:59] <lbarms> bummer
[17:59] * scribbler erects anti-virus Wards around KK and her computer....
[17:59] <KK> There was a warning from her, buried in all those copies, but I wasn't paying close enough attention.  I will next time!
[17:59] <Bynw> oopsies
[17:59] <Shiral> Nasty discovery
[18:00] <virtualbabe> the new nortons analyse e-mail.  My norton caught goner in an e-mail.  it got deleted, unread and unopened
[18:00] <Martine> Have you switched your mail client away from Outlook yet, KK?
[18:00] <KK> My Norton hadn't yet downloaded the Goner definition, so it didn't catch it.
[18:00] <KK> I'm thinking about going back to Eudora.
[18:01] <ash> I always liked PMMail
[18:01] <Martine> There's another one I stumbled on, if you're still not happy with Eudora.
[18:01] <virtualbabe> I'm thinking of trying incredimail.  I can't seem to get netscrape to work
[18:01] <Martine> It's called "Pegasus Mail."
[18:01] <KK> What one is that?
[18:01] <AngusSB> Norton's not the best for updating- even if it is set on automatic, may not connect
[18:01] <Martine> I found it at http://www.downloads.com
[18:01] <Sedina> I know of someone who uses Pegasus and is fairly pleased with it
[18:01] <scribbler> Welcome to "Saint Camber's Computer Talk" with Katherine Kurtz.....
[18:01] <Martine> So far it's been trouble free, and it even lets me choose if I want to leave e-mail on the ISP server
[18:01] <Kelos_al-Hazar> PegasusMail is good, too...so is the commercial version of Agent (www.forte.com/agent)
[18:02] <virtualbabe> I can't get e-mail to go out through agent.  I do use it for my newsreader though
[18:02] <Martine> Pegasus was free. Can't get more cost effective than that!
[18:02] <KK> Well, I never want to leave stuff on the server, because we don't have free local dialup except evenings and weekends.
[18:02] <hygilac> yes, what would you do if suddenly transplanted to Rhemuth? someone in this crowd would open Ye Olde Meideval Computer Shoppe
[18:03] <Martine> That would be me!!!
[18:03] <Wrengl> lol
[18:03] <Shiral> LOL, Linda
[18:03] * Bynw never liked pegaus mail
[18:03] <Martine> Just need to transplant a few grain alcohol generators with me.
[18:03] <virtualbabe> I tried e-mailing b-day greetings through it and they never went through.
[18:03] <scribbler> LOL Linda....
[18:03] <Shiral> What would Alaric's E-mail address, be?
[18:03] <Ghostgames> I'd probably become an animal trainer if I suddenly found myself in medieval Rhemuth. Either that, or starve. :-/
[18:03] <hygilac> Morgan@large
[18:03] <Martine> Shiral - duke_mor...@coroth.gwy?
[18:04] <scribbler> kelric_is_a_p...@gryphon.net
[18:04] <virtualbabe> gryp...@coroth.com
[18:04] *** lbarms  Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:04] <KK> Bynw, I need you to resend me the mIRC button again for my desktop, so I don't have to go through that I did tonight.  Please?
[18:04] <Shiral> LOL
[18:04] <Martine> LOL scribbler!
[18:04] * virtualbabe attacks peer with an overripe plantaine
[18:04] <Bynw> ok
[18:04] <Wrengl> lol scribs
[18:04] * Wrengl Takes the bullwhip from her Indiana Jones belt and whips peer from one end of the room to the next.
[18:04] * Martine grabs her riding crop and gives Peer a firm rap.
[18:04] <KK> d...@coroth.gov
[18:04] <Shiral> More like  kelric_is_sti...@corwyn.com
[18:04] * scribbler sends Peer off to peer counseling....
[18:05] <Bynw> we will just need to have it reinstalled on your puter :-)
[18:05] <Martine> I think that would be kelric's address.
[18:05] *** lbarms  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:05] <Shiral> And Kelson's.... cr...@rhemuth.gov
[18:05] <Wrengl> brb gotta put dinner on
[18:05] <KK> Thanks.

[18:05] <Shiral> wB Laura
[18:05] <Wrengl> wb laura
[18:05] <scribbler> WB lbarms
[18:05] <lbarms> thanks
[18:05] <Martine> Yes! I have Kelson's e-mail! He'll rue the day!
[18:05] <Shiral> Give it to us anyway, Linda
[18:05] <KK> Peer is being cantankerous tonight.
[18:05] <Rambart20> wb laura
[18:05] <hygilac> Lo...@garden.org
[18:05] <Martine> WB Laura
[18:05] <Sedina> wb Laura
[18:05] <Shiral> LOL!!!
[18:05] <Shiral> Perfect
[18:05] <scribbler> LOL Linda!
[18:05] <Martine> ROTFL, hygilac
[18:06] <lbarms> yes, peer threw my computer off of my lap
[18:06] <Jessie> lol Laura
[18:06] <Sedina> Oh, that's definitely not good, Laura.  *l
[18:06] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Uh oh. Less than an hour to go before the Christmas performance reception begins...
[18:06] <the_Bee> RITRL, LINDA
[18:06] <hygilac> boy, peer is geting desperate to disconnect you
[18:06] <Kelos_al-Hazar> KK: Got a quick (Deryni-related) question or two....
[18:07] <KK> Go for it, Kelos.
[18:07] <Bynw> deryni-related chat?  here???  how strange
[18:07] <Wrengl> back
[18:07] <Jessie> exactly Bynw
[18:07] *** ash  Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:07] <hygilac> lol Bynw
[18:07] <Martine> Ack! Peer struck again!
[18:07] <Sedina> lol Bynw
[18:07] * Martine grabs her riding crop and gives Peer a firm rap.
[18:07] <Shiral> Nyargh, poor ash
[18:07] <the_Bee> GOT HIM AGAIN
[18:07] <scribbler> Peer really has it in for Ash lately....
[18:07] <hygilac> there he goes again
[18:07] <virtualbabe> i guess peer didn't get the message
[18:07] * scribbler slaps Peer silly....
[18:07] <KK> Peer's got it in for poor Ash.
[18:07] <Kelos_al-Hazar> 1. Who has the blocking ability in Kelson's time? 2. What effect would it have if Warin de Gray has it? 3. Where IS Warin?
[18:08] <lbarms> thats 3 kelos :-)
[18:08] <KK> Sorry, can't/won't answer those.  :-)
[18:08] <scribbler> hmmm, I hear hints of a future story.....
[18:08] <Shiral> She wants to keep us in suspense...
[18:08] <Sedina> and she smiles at us as she tells us that...  How kind.  *l*
[18:08] <Rambart20> hmm very interesting
[18:08] <Martine> Oooh! Oooh! More Kelson stories!
[18:08] * virtualbabe giggles@ Katherine
[18:08] <RainbowDragon> KK goes zzzzzip!
[18:08] <Wrengl> think so scribs
[18:08] <hygilac> 0 for 3. . .not good odds
[18:08] <KK> She does, indeed.
[18:08] * Martine does a happy dance
[18:08] <Shiral> KK's story stove is full of bubbling, steaming pots.
[18:08] <scribbler> we'll make her the Zipper Mommy.....
[18:08] <Kelos_al-Hazar> Hmmmm... Sounds intriguing...
[18:09] <KK> Zipper Mommy.  Hmmm, I like that.
[18:09] <lbarms> lol scrib
[18:09] <Wrengl> three strikes and you are out, kelos
[18:09] <Shiral> Oh wow, Hi Mom! <G>
[18:09] <KK> But he can ask another one, if he likes.
[18:09] <hygilac> well, she did have that kitchen redone
[18:09] <Rambart20> I have a question KK
[18:09] <Shiral> Got one for ya,  When you talk about "Healer's Green" what color do you see?
[18:09] * Kelos_al-Hazar mutters slightly before thinking of another...
[18:09] <Rambart20> it is along the same lines though
[18:10] <RainbowDragon> Can only Healers be Blockers?
[18:10] <scribbler> Here's a writing (non-Deryni) related question: do you think of titles before you write a story, or do you write first and then find a title?
[18:10] <KK> Healer's green is a good, intense leaf-green, not too dark.
[18:10] <lbarms> Bart picks up the standard and rushes onward
[18:10] <Shiral> Thanks, got it
[18:10] <KK> Story first, almost always.  I find titles difficult, most of the time.
[18:10] <Shiral> Pretty close to the way I saw it, too
[18:10] <Bynw> I can sort of answer those Kelos.. .any healer has the POTENTIAL to be a blocker since its a subfunction of a Healer.  Warin isnt a Deryni as far as we know, so he probably doesn't have that ability at all.  Warin is somewhere in the 11 Kingdoms.
[18:10] <scribbler> Thanks -- me too....
[18:10] <Rambart20> if a deryni is blocked , and remains blocked before he has children, would deryni powers manifest in the children
[18:10] <KK> Probably, Rainbow Dragon.
[18:11] <KK> Probably, Bart.
[18:11] <KK> Bingo, Bynw!
[18:11] <Martine> Any plans for stories (long, short, any length) showing the relationship developing between Kelson and Araxie?
[18:11] <Rambart20> thanks KK:-)
[18:11] <hygilac> you seem to be heavily into probability today, KK
[18:11] <KK> Probably not until the next Kelson novel, Martine.
[18:12] <KK> LOL, Linda.
[18:12] <Martine> I guess I'll have to learn patience...
[18:12] <KK> Gimme a break!
[18:12] <virtualbabe> and there are so many others in the queue
[18:12] <Shiral> Ah, but in the Childe Morgan books, you could foreshadow what's to come after both Kelson and Araxie have been born...<G>
[18:12] <scribbler> "I want patience, and I want it NOW!"
[18:12] <Sedina> Martine - or you could just do what you did last time.  *g*
[18:12] <Martine> Well, I have a habit of writing my own thoughts instead of waiting patiently...
[18:12] *** Kelos_al-Hazar  Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[18:12] *** ash  has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[18:12] <Martine> LOL Sedina! Might just do that!
[18:12] <Shiral> And yes, I know the CM books will focus on MORGAN, but he has always been prominent in Kelson's life...<G>
[18:12] <Sedina> wb ash
[18:12] * scribbler grabs a monkfish and pounds Peer with it unmercifully....
[18:13] <Bynw> Learn patience?  How long is that going to take?
[18:13] <KK> Shiral, I can't foreshadow stuff like that unless it doesn't affect what's already happened in the first 6 Kelson books.
[18:13] <scribbler> WB ash
[18:13] <hygilac> I want a time travel portal so I can go forward in time and get all the stories KK still has not written
[18:13] <Shiral> True
[18:13] <ash> nooooo... noo computer problems here.... *growl*
[18:13] <Martine> A lifetime, Bynw! Haven't figured it out yet.
[18:13] <KK> Now Peer has whacked Kelos, too.
[18:13] <hygilac> blame BTInternet, ash
[18:13] <ash> nope, blame BT full stop
[18:13] <hygilac> David always does
[18:13] * Martine grabs her riding crop and gives Peer a firm rap.
[18:13] <ash> its the phone line. not the ISP
[18:13] * Shiral stomps peer with spiked mountaineering boots
[18:13] <hygilac> ah
[18:14] * RainbowDragon pours molten lava on Peer's head
[18:14] <KK> Spoked mountaineering boots, Shiral?  Oooo, kinky!
[18:14] <Shiral> I expect to learn patience when I'm 80 or so
[18:14] * hygilac sympathizes; she has similiar problems with BellSouth
[18:14] <scribbler> methinks Peer is in danger of finding coal in his stocking next week....
[18:14] <Martine> I think I'll have to wait until I'm dead.
[18:14] <Bynw> LOL
[18:14] <Shiral> Now then, you can't climb everest in your Tennis Shoes, KK <G>
[18:14] <Martine> Eternity might teach me patience. Nothing else will.
[18:14] <virtualbabe> you need cable internet Ash,  the only time I ever got peered was when zonealarm kicked in once
[18:14] <ash> CABLE! HERE! HAAHAHAHAAHAAHA!
[18:15] <ash> we don't even have mains water and sewage!
[18:15] <Shiral> But most mountaineering books aren't what I'd call seductive footwear <G>
[18:15] <Martine> Cable access isn't quite as prominent in England from what I've heard.
[18:15] <ash> :)
[18:15] <ash> In this area, we can't even get DSL
[18:15] * scribbler wants to get either cable or DSL as a graduation present in March (hint to her kibitzing husband.....)
[18:15] <KK> Ash and I know all about cable over here--not.
[18:15] <ash> As soon as i get back to London...
[18:15] <ash> Oooooh, ADSL... it will be mine again...
[18:15] <Martine> Ash, I live five miles from New York City, and *I* don't have DSL. Just got cable modem availability three weeks ago.
[18:15] <ash> and then the fun will being...
[18:15] <hygilac> yeah--and out in the boonies in America too--not
[18:16] <ash> the return of Raven FM... the webserver..
[18:16] <ash> the joy! the joy!
[18:16] <KK> We've got mains water, Ash--but it's a mystery where the sewage goes.
[18:16] <AngusSB> well, at least you have the knowledge that you are unlikely to get a blackout in the UK or US- that's an even bigger problem for chat, as a working phone's no good if the computer's off :-(
[18:16] <ash> KK: Septic tank. probably
[18:16] <Martine> KK, have any trees/bushes growing VERY healthily in your yard? <grin>
[18:16] <ash> When they talk about the ripening season over here, they're not talking about the fruit.
[18:16] <ash> they're talking about the smell in summer.
[18:16] <scribbler> one reason I like using a laptop, Angus -- if the power goes off, at least I can run on battery for about 3 hours....
[18:16] * virtualbabe rubs her eyes, she thought she saw skeptic tank
[18:16] <KK> Yep, but where it lies, no one knows.
[18:16] <Shiral> LOL
[18:17] <AngusSB> yeah, and after 3 hours?
[18:17] <Wrengl> lol vb
[18:17] <Shiral> It doesn't believe anything you tell it, VB <G>
[18:17] <AngusSB> or 7 (Inspiron with 2 batteries)?
[18:17] <scribbler> by then hopefully the power is back around here....or at least I've had enough time to save my writing and shut down.....
[18:17] <KK> My laptop's batteries barely last an hour.
[18:17] <ash> Angus: if you can get 7 hours out of an inspiron with 2 batteries, i'd be impressed
[18:18] <ash> I'm looking at a Sony Vaio, or a new Apple iBook
[18:18] <Martine> You might have a chance if its brand new, Ash.
[18:18] <hygilac> back to the computer shop. . .
[18:18] <AngusSB> er, I have, three times- down to about 4 hours now, though :-(
[18:18] <scribbler> I love the new iBooks -- I got the old one (bought a month before the new ones came out!)
[18:18] <ash> its more the Geforce graphics chip in the new Inspirons really leaches the battery life

[18:20] <virtualbabe> Hi Captain
[18:20] <Martine> Nice to meet you, Captain!
[18:21] <lbarms> That sounds like a floor in a hospital Shiral

[18:21] <Wrengl> hi captain
[18:21] <Shiral> Well yes I suppose it does
[18:21] <KK> Greetings, Captain.  Who are you?
[18:21] <Captain> (although I did meet you at CSUSB last month!)
[18:21] <KK> Aha!  A Californian.
[18:21] <Shiral> He's Captain Kirk =o)
[18:21] <Captain> My name is Kirk and you signed my book after the man that you used to work with at LAPD
[18:21] <KK> Right.
[18:22] * virtualbabe thinks about a set of ward cubes which operate under windows
[18:22] <KK> Ah.  Ok.
[18:22] <Captain> the older gentleman
[18:22] <Captain> remember that I thought Andre Norton was a man?
[18:22] <scribbler> Loved the story, BTW, KK -- read it last week after I signed off.....
[18:22] <Jessie> lol Captain
[18:22] <Martine> VB, when you find them, let me know! I want a set!
[18:22] <Jessie> "older gentleman"?
[18:22] <Gamgee> virtualbabe: do you REALLY want your wards to be crashing all the time?
[18:22] <lbarms> lol
[18:22] <KK> Tee-hee, Sam!
[18:22] * Captain blushes with embarassment
[18:22] <Rambart20> lol
[18:22] <Martine> Hey! You only need a Windows XP-compatible set of cubes!
[18:22] <Shiral> Captain, don't feel bad, I thought Andre Norton was a man for a long time, too
[18:22] <Martine> Xp hasn't crashed on me once.
[18:23] <Captain> oh good Shiral, I feel better now
[18:23] <scribbler> instead of the Goner virus, it'd be the Gorony virus.....
[18:23] <KK> But she's a really cool nearly 90 year old lady.
[18:23] <Shiral> LOL!!!
[18:23] <Gamgee> Martine: you are very lucky!
[18:23] <Martine> LOl Scribbler!
[18:23] <the_Bee> someone once told me that andre Norton didn't really exist
[18:23] <Captain> KK, did you get a chance to meet her as you thought?
[18:23] <KK> Her 90th birthday is February 17th.  Maybe we ought to do her a web page, eh, Shiral?
[18:23] <Wrengl> She is WAY cool Katherine
[18:23] <AngusSB> KK, any interesting new Templar books you've come across?  A bit off the beaten track out here

[18:24] <Martine> LOL
[18:24] <Wrengl> lol
[18:24] <scribbler> Have you been able to restore your lost work on the Templar Anthology yet?

[18:25] <Rambart20> lol
[18:25] <Shiral> If it walks like a Duck it's a Templar?
[18:25] <lbarms> stuck in Italy
[18:25] <AngusSB> tell me about it- and when you get most of the rubbish being sold here, but not the decent stuff, and all of it expensive...
