[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:15 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Hi, all!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:19 PM EDT] <Evie> Hello, Deer!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:27 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi, TD
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:38 PM EDT] <Laurna> Hello TD
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:39 PM EDT] <the_Bee> Hi TD
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:39:46 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> OMG! My Deerest is here. Finally!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:40:05 PM EDT] <Laurna> Cheers!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:40:12 PM EDT] <Evie> :-D
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:40:25 PM EDT] <KK> Hello, TheDeryni.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:40:44 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Hello, Katherine. How are you doing?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:11 PM EDT] <KK> Hanging in there. More progress every day.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:26 PM EDT] <Shiral> Progress is always good when you're preparing to move
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:41 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:42 PM EDT] <judyward> It's hard work, moving
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:44 PM EDT] <jerusha> Progress pales in comparison to actually moving
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:41:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, are y'all moved, jerusha?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:42:03 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or still at work on it?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:42:14 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yep; now I have to find where I stashed everything
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:42:45 PM EDT] <judyward> Unpacking is almost as bad as packing
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:42:45 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, that's always the last hard bit, figuring out which box holds what items and where to put them.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:42:48 PM EDT] <jerusha> It made sense at the time; maybe not so much not
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:04 PM EDT] <Laurna> The joys a making a new home, comfortable.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:06 PM EDT] <jerusha> now, that is
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:20 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Sharpies help with that DR
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:29 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm not looking forward to unpacking my books. Having them here, yes; unpacking, reorganizing, and properly shelving them, no.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:35 PM EDT] <jerusha> Oops, I read that as harpies
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That, and I saw a clever idea recently about color coding with duct tape.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:43 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Lol
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:47 PM EDT] <Laurna> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:43:53 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:44:31 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Colored duct tape! Blasphemy!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:44:39 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Like, put blue duct tape on all the boxes of kitchen stuff, and green duct tape on the master bedroom boxes, and red duct tape on the bathroom boxes, etc.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:44:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, then you won't like what I did with my cane.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:00 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Oh boy
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:02 PM EDT] <bynw> duct tape is silver
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:20 PM EDT] <jerusha> The Bunkie (the extra little cottage we have on the demesne) has become the home for lost everything
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:25 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Yep. Just silver. Heh
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> Duct tape comes in a hundred colors and patterns.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> I used color coded labels. Everything pretty much ended up in the room where I intended it to go
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:49 PM EDT] <bynw> i just write on the box with a sharpie
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:45:57 PM EDT] <Laurna> Have you ever seen the Duct tape prom dresses and mens suits contests
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:46:05 PM EDT] <bynw> yes
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:46:08 PM EDT] <judyward> Me, too, but I like the idea of color coding.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:46:12 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> See! Sharpies
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:46:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> https://postimg.cc/GBNJ2W1M
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:46:56 PM EDT] <judyward> I saw those recently & they are really good looking!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:47:00 PM EDT] <jerusha> Now all you need is lights, DR
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:47:03 PM EDT] <Laurna> Snazzy, DR\
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:47:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Well, the silver part is iridescent; it'll catch light from streetlights or car headlights. :D
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:47:40 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> It maybe a "man" thing, but colored duct tape just seems wrong.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:48:09 PM EDT] <judyward> Good idea to have a reflective cane.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:48:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, I can see why you'd feel that way, but duct tape in non-silver colors can be useful. :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:00 PM EDT] <judyward> Rats! Gotta go. Dogs need attention & am getting hungry. EVeryone have a good week and Happy Retreating, KK.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:02 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Then it's not duct tape
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> One of my friends from another online space is working on sewing herself a strap to go from one shoulder to the opposite hip over whatever she's wearing when she's cycling to work.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:19 PM EDT] <jerusha> Have a good week, Judyward
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:23 PM EDT] <the_Bee> Bye Judy1
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Later, judyward. Have a good week, and feed yourself and those puppy dogs. :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:26 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> By JudyWard
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:34 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Err, bye
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:41 PM EDT] <Laurna> Duct tape is everything not just silver. https://www.duckbrand.com/stuck-at-prom/2019-gallery
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:41 PM EDT] <jerusha> Pet the puppies for me
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:42 PM EDT] <judyward> Thanks & Bye all!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:50 PM EDT] <judyward> Will do!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:51 PM EDT] <Shiral> Bye, Judy
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:56 PM EDT] <Laurna> Good night Judyward
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:49:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She's using yellow high-visibility ribbon and reflective bias tape together to make a strap she can buckle over her jacket.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:50:04 PM EDT] <judyward> G'night!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:50:16 PM EDT] Quit judyward (judyward@OWIRCN-cdcc182c.res.rr.com) has left this server (Connection closed).
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:50:16 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Nighters!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:50:31 PM EDT] <KK> Sounds useful, DR.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:50:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yup, especially since she bikes to work when the weather permits.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:51:15 PM EDT] <jerusha> DS1 made himself a duct tape wallet. Unfortunately, money did not stick to it
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:51:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She's gotten to where she really only uses her car to go grocery shopping or to go out of town.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:52:07 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I bike or bus.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:52:08 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Katherine, I need to ask you a question. How many times did you write and rewrite Deryni Rising before it was published?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:52:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, jerusha, I wish anyone anywhere could make a wallet out of anything that would attract money. :D
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:52:32 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yep
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:52:49 PM EDT] <Shiral> It would make getting money OUT quickly a little difficult, I'd think
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:53:00 PM EDT] <Evie> .
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:53:06 PM EDT] <jerusha> That is not a bad thing
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:53:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> True, and I'm enough of a butterfingers at the checkout as it is!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:53:17 PM EDT] <Laurna> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:53:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> "Here's a nice, shreddy 10 dollar bill for you...."
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:54:16 PM EDT] <jerusha> Peel it out and then try to get it off of your finger
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:54:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm more fumbly with change than with bills, but I am not exactly the epitome of grace even with my debit card.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:54:32 PM EDT] <KK> I hadn't written a complete draft when I submitted the proposal. Just first 3 chapters and an outline for the rest. After that, I did rewriting within chapters, of course, as I went--and in those days, there was lots of squiggly notes in pargins and between lines as I worked on the drafts. But I'd guess that most chapters got retype4d 3-4 times. Rememebr, this was in the dfays before word processing.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:55:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, the physical process of writing is different now with Word and whatnot.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:55:40 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> So, what would have been the difference if you had a computer?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:56:13 PM EDT] <jerusha> Less writer
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:56:26 PM EDT] <jerusha> writer's cramp, I meant
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:56:44 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I still think of writing in terms of pen and paper.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:57:09 PM EDT] <jerusha> If I need to puzzle something out, I need pencil and paper
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:57:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Although I read something recently about note-taking, that the process of taking notes longhand actually tends to lead to better retention of the material, even though most people can type significantly faster than they can write with a pen/pencil and paper.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:57:54 PM EDT] <jerusha> That is definitely true, DR
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:58:13 PM EDT] <KK> Wouldn't have had to retype everything. As it was, the final typing was also a final edit. I learned quickly how to do edits on the fly, and to compose on the typewriter, too. Some parts of some chapters got edited many times, and even written out in longhand, when I'd get stuck.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:58:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Apparently taking more time to write it down means taking more time to hold the material in your brain, which leads to better memory of the material at hand.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:58:29 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I usually print, excpt for my signature. People had trouble reading my handwrting.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:59:19 PM EDT] <jerusha> I have heard they no longer teach handwriting in school; only printing
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:59:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I print in block caps if I think anyone else is going to need to read it. For myself, in my journals I write cursive, and poetry I usually print but not in block capitals.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:59:21 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Ah. That makes sense. The reason I ask is because I dabble with writing, but always hand write first. Then transfer to my computer.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:59:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> They didn't really teach the Pod-Child to write cursive, or at least not for long.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [8:59:45 PM EDT] <KK> I'd believe that, DR. It certainly works that way for me, though not as much now that I'm accustomed to composing on the computer. I think maybe we lose something in the translation, though.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:00:03 PM EDT] <Shiral> I edit by printing out a story/chapter and reading it aloud to myself with a correction pen in hand
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:00:10 PM EDT] <Shiral> Your ears catch things your eyes don't
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:00:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's a good technique, too, Shiral.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:00:21 PM EDT] <jerusha> Cursive writing is like a warm, fuzzy cat
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:00:46 PM EDT] <Laurna> I am more your way Shiral. hard to edit on the fly. Many koodos to you who can do it.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:01 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And I formed a habit in college of making a mutual-aid pact with at least one classmate in each class, for copies of notes if one of us missed a lecture and proofreading each other's papers before turning them in for grading.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:08 PM EDT] <Shiral> Sometimes if I really get stuck, I find it helps to just turn off all machines and write by hand.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:33 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I saw a recent news story that some kid stoday don't know how to write cursive.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:40 PM EDT] <the_Bee> kids
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It helps to have someone else go over it, because everyone has "pet" errors.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:01:48 PM EDT] <Laurna> Although I am finally getting better at finding my typos and misspellings while reading the computer. but I have to have the time to reread. Hard to do that in chat
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:04 PM EDT] <Shiral> I'm a big believer in having a fresh pair of eyes look things over
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "Pet" errors being mistakes one makes all the time but doesn't notice very often or at all.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:15 PM EDT] <Evie> I absolutely can't write by hand. It slows me down, and my handwriting is so bad at the best of times even if I am taking my time, if I'm trying to get in the flow and writing quickly, my output is illegible
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:23 PM EDT] <Evie> I can't even make out what it was meant to say afterwards
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:25 PM EDT] <jerusha> Typos in chat are instantly forgiven
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:27 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Thank you KK.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:02:44 PM EDT] <Evie> I can type nearly as fast as I can think, so composing as I type is effortless
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:03:05 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I usedto keep a dream journal, but I couldn't read my own handwriting.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:03:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yup, chat typos are part of the territory, but formal papers need to be typo-free. :D
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:03:38 PM EDT] <Shiral> Anything goes in the first draft. everything does NOT go in the second, third fourth fifth....etc
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:03:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yup
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:04:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Speaking of a warm fuzzy cat, Carys is camping on my left arm.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:04:27 PM EDT] Nick TheDeryni is now known as TD-brb.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:04:27 PM EDT] <Shiral> I write first drats on the computer mostly. Writing by hand is how I get un-stuck
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:04:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> First drats? As in, "Drat, I made a typo," Shiral? ;)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:04:52 PM EDT] <KK> Yep. Sometimes it works to just free-associate on the computer, to get the creative juices flowing.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:17 PM EDT] <Shiral> First drat is not an entirely inappropriate term. =o)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:19 PM EDT] * DesertRose ducks.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Too true!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:37 PM EDT] <Evie> It would be far stronger language than "first drat" if I had to handwrite it!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:38 PM EDT] <Laurna> First Drat is very approriate, i think
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:48 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yep
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:05:50 PM EDT] <Laurna> LOl
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:06:02 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:06:18 PM EDT] <Shiral> But then, you have to get more and more exacting with each re-write while you polish it up
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:06:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Indeed.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:06:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Whether it's fiction or a paper for school. :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:06:56 PM EDT] * Shiral launches a basket full of goldfish crackers at DR, nevertheless
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:00 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:06 PM EDT] <Laurna> Filling launcher with mackerel. because we have not done that in a long time and we need to launch it in memory of Jemler
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys will eat the ones that fall on the floor. Silly cat will fight you for digestive biscuits, so I have to think that cheese-flavored crackers would be right up her alley.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:30 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yes, I miss Jemler
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:37 PM EDT] <Shiral> We all do
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:57 PM EDT] <KK> He is, indeed, missed.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:07:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, he almost always showed up about an hour before whatever official start time was and said, "hi folks."
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:08:12 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It still feels weird and wrong that he isn't doing that.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:08:21 PM EDT] <Shiral> I love digestive biscuits. Cats fortunately don't care for them
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:08:54 PM EDT] <Evie> Evie fires the Jemler Memorial Mackerel Launcher
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have no idea why Carys loves them so, but if I have a couple, I spend a LOT of time fending off her fuzzy face.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Instead of fireworks, we have fourth of july fishworks
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:20 PM EDT] <Evie> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:32 PM EDT] <the_Bee> LOL!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:33 PM EDT] <KK> Hee-hee!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or Canada Day Fishworks.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> Less firedanger, for certain
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:50 PM EDT] <jerusha> Or Canada Day fishworks;
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:52 PM EDT] Quit TD-brb (~TheDeryni@Flirt.Storyteller.Wiseass) has left this server (Client closed the connection).
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:09:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> (I'm not sure that fireworks are actually part of Canada day celebrations, though.)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:00 PM EDT] <Laurna> safer that way. I think!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Jinx, jerusha~
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> !
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:07 PM EDT] Join TheDeryni (~TheDeryni@Flirt.Storyteller.Wiseass) has joined this channel.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:08 PM EDT] Mode derynibot gives channel operator privileges to TheDeryni.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:23 PM EDT] <Shiral> Much, but you know everyone thinks there's something fishy going on
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:28 PM EDT] <jerusha> Oh yes, we have fireworks
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:29 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:10:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> All the chat chatons will clean up the fishworks. :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:11:18 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I hear fireworks may get more expensive if tariffs happen. Most are made in china.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:01 PM EDT] <jerusha> And we have campfires with enough smoke to keep away the mosquitoes
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've heard that some clever scientist figured out a way to make fireworks that don't make noise (or at least not much noise).
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:20 PM EDT] <jerusha> What would be the point?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:28 PM EDT] <jerusha> You need the "boom"
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> A lot of people with PTSD would appreciate that, along with a lot of cats and dogs that don't like the noise.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:39 PM EDT] <KK> True. And the flash-bang.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:12:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> You get all the pretty sparklies without the noise.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:13:19 PM EDT] <KK> Speaking of which, I just heard some fireworks in the background, from across the street.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:13:23 PM EDT] <jerusha> That is true, but I like the big bang. Our dogs never seemed to notice
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I like the "sparklies-boom" too, but I can see why people and some critters don't and why quieter fireworks would be a good thing.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:11 PM EDT] <jerusha> They were never that close to the noise, though
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:31 PM EDT] <Laurna> our oldest dog, Rexxar has finaly gone stone deaf. so this will be the first year we will not have to hold him in our laps through the night.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> My cats hide under the bed, but otherwise seem to handle fireworks, okay
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:32 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Fireworks start here in 15 minutes
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:14:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys looks out the window like, "I did not authorize this ruckus!" She seems annoyed, not afraid.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:15:22 PM EDT] <the_Bee> Where is "here," TD?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:15:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> Carys, it's rude that the municipality never asks your permission!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:15:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Indeed, Shiral!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:15:52 PM EDT] <jerusha> The whippets always kind of said "Is there a treat with this? If not, never mind."
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:16:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Her Serene Imperial Majesty requires right of approval over all noisy things like fireworks and thunderstorms. :D
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:16:21 PM EDT] <Shiral> I went to a SF firework display once. We got green, red and gold flashes in the fog. Bit of a let down!
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:16:48 PM EDT] <Laurna> fortunately my horses don't care. they look up and then go right back to eating.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:16:52 PM EDT] <KK> At the retreat, a nearby community saves their fireworks for the Saturday night after the 4th, and we often go out into the parking lot and watch the sparklies above the trees. Not a lot of boom at that distance, but a nice light-show.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:17:08 PM EDT] <Laurna> Nice
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:17:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> We've had a few 4th of July fireworks shows cancelled because Mother Nature provided the light-and-sound show.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:17:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or postponed.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:17:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hoping to see fireworks from the 11th floor deck at Channing House again this year. it was closed last year, but it's one of the best places ever for seeing all the surrounding fireworks
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:17:56 PM EDT] <KK> They have to be delayed so long anyway, because it stays light so long in midsummer.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:18:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yup, and also July in Florida stands a significant chance of thunderstorms.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:18:20 PM EDT] <the_Bee> I usually watch Independence Day celebrations on TV.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:18:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Boston Pops usually does a concert, yes?
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:19:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I want to think that PBS airs something like that.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:19:06 PM EDT] <KK> Anyway, I wish you all some fun fireworks-watching on Thursday or whenever it's celebrated in your necks of the woods.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:19:09 PM EDT] <TheDeryni> Bee, Danbury CT

[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:20:49 PM EDT] <the_Bee> PBS does the National Mall this year. I forget who does Boston Pops.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:21:20 PM EDT] <the_Bee> Boston fireworks are on the Charles river.
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:21:25 PM EDT] <jerusha> Best fireworks ever were in Rome NY; they played the 1812 Overture with fireworks and setting off the guns at Fort Stanwick
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:21:48 PM EDT] <Laurna> WOW
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:21:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> A proper rendition of the 1812 Overture. :)
[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:21:53 PM EDT] <the_Bee> That's a Boston Pops tradition, Jerusha!

[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:22:45 PM EDT] <jerusha> They almost forgot to eat their popcorn

[Sunday, June 30, 2019] [9:23:44 PM EDT] Quit KK has left this server (Quit: CGI:IRC).
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
