[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:09 PM EDT] Join KK has joined this channel.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:12 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi KK!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:18 PM EDT] <Matt> Hi KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:21 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:33 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:39 PM EDT] <revanne> How are you doing?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:13:42 PM EDT] <Evie> Might not be here the full time. As soon as DH gets off work, we need to clear out stuff in areas of the basement so that we can get some repairs done to our A/C
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:14:17 PM EDT] <KK> Oooo, sounds like fun. Not.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:14:35 PM EDT] <Evie> About as fun as a DIY home lobotomy, yeah
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:14:38 PM EDT] <Matt> Been there myself a time or two
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:14:38 PM EDT] <revanne> Yes you need A/C in your part of the world.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:14:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> At least the AC repair is happening in October and not July?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:15:19 PM EDT] <Evie> Especially since last week we had temps that exceeded 100 F some days, though thankfully this coming week is bringing cooler weather
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:15:31 PM EDT] <Evie> But "cooler" only means below 90 F, not actually cool
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:15:32 PM EDT] <revanne> Yikes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:15:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I mean, not that autumn means much in the South. I've seen a number of memes about Southern autumn being summer but with pumpkins, and alternatively, one calling it hotumn. :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:15:42 PM EDT] <KK> Ugh! But it seems that our heat has finally broken. Yay!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:16:41 PM EDT] <Evie> We don't normally get genuinely cool temps (cool enough for a light jacket) until Halloween week
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:16:47 PM EDT] <Laurna> back from the hardware store. needed plumbing bits to redo my pond pump and waterfall
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:16:56 PM EDT] <revanne> I won't feel guilty for not sharing my hot water bottle with you then.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:10 PM EDT] <Matt> I think our 100° days are done for this year
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:13 PM EDT] <revanne> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:16 PM EDT] <The_Bee> We've finally transitioned from skirt weather to slacks weather.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:20 PM EDT] <Laurna> Hello revanne, and everyone
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:24 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:29 PM EDT] <Evie> I might puncture a hot water bottle repeatedly with a wooden stake if you were to brandish it at me right now. ;-)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:32 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I had to go raid my stepdad's collection of hardware that rivals some stores for a couple of zip ties for the aforementioned half-forgotten craft project.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:38 PM EDT] <Matt> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:17:58 PM EDT] <revanne> No!! Leaky hot water bottles are awful.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:18:25 PM EDT] <revanne> Especially when you wake up with a bed full of cold water at 3 am
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:18:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> hehe, the pond store will sell you pond pumps and hoses but never the right bits to put it all together.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:18:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Just don't brandish it at Evie, revanne, and your hot water bottle will be just fine.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:18:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> ;)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:18:39 PM EDT] <Laurna> Yikes revanne
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:19:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> How's it been going, KK?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:19:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, DerynifanK said that she would miss chat today; she's spending time with a friend who was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and will be starting chemo tomorrow, so he needs some company and support.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:20:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> That's being a good friend.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:20:36 PM EDT] <revanne> :-( for her friend.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:20:38 PM EDT] <Evie> I hope all goes well for him
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:20:42 PM EDT] <Laurna> Last night we went to the Hollywood bowl and watched the orchastra play Game of Throwns. Awesome performance.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:00 PM EDT] <revanne> Sounds amazing.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And Bynw won't be here either. I don't think it's related to the car accident he was in this week, but I don't know for sure.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:19 PM EDT] <Matt> Sounds cool
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:25 PM EDT] <Evie> Oh dear! Is he OK?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:28 PM EDT] <revanne> As in actual Hollywood?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> "Throwns"? Were they really throwing stuff?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:40 PM EDT] <Matt> Yes he's ok
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:44 PM EDT] <DesertRose> No broken bones, just soft-tissue owies, which, you know, hurt.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:47 PM EDT] <Laurna> No it is in Burbank . Near Hollywood
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:49 PM EDT] <Matt> He's doing better
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:21:52 PM EDT] <Evie> Ow. Yeah
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:14 PM EDT] <Laurna> Huge outdoor venue. and I mean HUGE
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:27 PM EDT] <revanne> Even near Hollywood is impressive from this side of the pond.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:33 PM EDT] <KK> Oh, I hear you on that! Not cancer, but I drove up to Fairfax yesterday to visit Jasta (with NASH). She's hanging in there, but it's hard going, and she's very weak. Still the same quick wit, though.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And in the last announcement I have as far as I know re: chat attendance, I will miss next week because the orchestra which includes my bass-violin-playing friend.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:49 PM EDT] <Evie> Nice warm soak in a bath with Epsom salt helped when I was all achy after my car got T-boned several years back
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:22:57 PM EDT] <Laurna> Give our best to Jasta
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:23:02 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Do you know her diagnosis, KK?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:23:15 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Do carry my love to her, KK, please.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:23:32 PM EDT] <revanne> Too many bad diagnoses about
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:23:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The orchestra has a concert next Sunday, yikes. My brain, it is done for the day apparently.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:24:24 PM EDT] <KK> Yes, it's NASH--non-alcoholic fatty liver. It's what Scott had. She's hoping for a liver transplant.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:24:47 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I hope she gets one soon.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:24:54 PM EDT] <Matt> Praying she gets it soon.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:25:01 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Me too. This year has taken too many lives already.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:25:01 PM EDT] <revanne> Yes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:25:18 PM EDT] <Laurna> During the dragon songs they were spotting fire all across the stage and above and then during the white walker songs they had snow machines blow snow every where.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:25:31 PM EDT] <revanne> Nice
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:25:32 PM EDT] <Matt> Wow
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:05 PM EDT] <KK> Yeah, but the surgery is very intensive, and the recovery VERY intense. If she makes it, the future will still be very touch for some time. Pray for her.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:12 PM EDT] <Laurna> When they played the songs where they blue up the building with green fire. they had a full green fireworks display
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:35 PM EDT] <KK> Laurna, that sounds awesome.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, organ transplants are tough to be sure, and the liver has a lot of biological work to do.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:47 PM EDT] <Laurna> It was cool
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:26:48 PM EDT] <revanne> I bought csome herbal bath salts last time we were over in Wales from a company called "Jones the Bones"
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:27:09 PM EDT] * The_Bee sends healing woodgies in Jasta Elf's direction.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:27:19 PM EDT] <Laurna> Oh interesting name for a company
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:27:49 PM EDT] <Matt> The Phoenix Symphony Orchestra is doing a Harry Potter Concert. I imagine they might do something similar to your experience.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:12 PM EDT] <Laurna> That would be fun to see Matt
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Here in Trimaris (SCA name for most of Florida), we have an informal holiday called Trimarian Kidney Day because one long-time SCA member needed a kidney transplant and it just so happened that another SCA member was a compatible donor so they did live donation and now we celebrate the day and the fact that they're both alive and well.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:25 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Laptop has disconnected and can't reconnect, so trying on phone
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:31 PM EDT] Quit Evie (~IceChat9@OWIRCN-e5c4a6df.al.charter.com) has left this server (Ping timeout: 121 seconds).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:34 PM EDT] <revanne> The salts are supposed to be relaxing for your body (posh -Epsom salts I suspect) hence the name.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:38 PM EDT] <Matt> The Star Wars concert was pretty fun.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:28:50 PM EDT] <KK> That's awesome, DR!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:29:38 PM EDT] <revanne> That's great DR
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:29:49 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Cool!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:30:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It is. We've since developed several other, less epic informal holidays, including Hessentag ("Hessen" being the in-persona surname of one of our recent kings) and Calpurnalia (being a holiday in honor of a lovely lady who does a Roman persona who is named Calpurnia).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:31:36 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hessentag is largely about beer, and Calpurnalia is about being kind and gracious (and also annoying the lady in question with tributes--I don't think she's really ANNOYED annoyed).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:32:11 PM EDT] <revanne> Sounds fun
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:32:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, and Hessentag is also about annoying said past king. :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:32:31 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What is your SCA identity, DR?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:32:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It is fun.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:33:02 PM EDT] <revanne> It's safer to annoy past kings than present ones.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:33:20 PM EDT] <The_Bee> especially in real life
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:33:52 PM EDT] <revanne> Henry VIII comes to mind.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:33:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> My main persona is named Katherine la Vynour, and she is a vintner, a widow with a daughter, in London in the late 1300's. I have been developing a secondary persona who is from India in the late 1500's (mainly for clothing that is more comfortable in Florida, LOL), and I don't have her fleshed out enough to have a surname but her given name is Periya.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:34:53 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And yes, annoy sitting royalty at your peril. :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:35:33 PM EDT] <The_Bee> They may sue you, like Harry and Meghan.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:35:40 PM EDT] <revanne> The costumes for the Indian lady would be awesome.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:35:48 PM EDT] Join EvieLaptop (~IceChat9@OWIRCN-e5c4a6df.al.charter.com) has joined this channel.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:02 PM EDT] <revanne> Rehi Evie
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:04 PM EDT] <The_Bee> WB. Evie laptop
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:06 PM EDT] <EvieLaptop> Hi
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:22 PM EDT] <Laurna> Like the name EvieLaptop
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:36 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's what I've been working on when I post to Facebook with the TrimarisArtSci100 hashtag, Periya's clothes.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:36:52 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> That's because I'm also on my phone in case the laptop disconnects again
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:37:17 PM EDT] <Laurna> let us hope you stay here
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:37:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She is a personal servant to Chand Bibi Sultana, who was born a princess of one city-state in what is now west-central India, married the sultan of another city-state, and then when she was widowed, came home and served as regent for her underage nephew.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:37:33 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Periya's surname might depend on what part of India she's from.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:38:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Chand Bibi held off an attempt to conquer her birth city by Akbar (the Mughal/Timurid emperor who did eventually succeed in conquering most of modern-day India, plus parts of Pakistan and I think some of Afghanistan and Iran.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:38:24 PM EDT] <revanne> The back stories ard fun too.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:39:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Chand Bibi was a real person; your SCA persona can't be a real person, but you can build your persona around real people. The reason Katherine la Vynour is a vintner is that she has an in-persona reason to have grown up with Chaucer, whose father was a vintner.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:40:15 PM EDT] <revanne> Cool
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:40:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And someone else I know made his persona a secretary to William Cecil, Lord Burghley.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:40:25 PM EDT] <Matt> I was active in the SCA years ago
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:40:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Cecil probably had a number of secretaries; he had a busy life!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:40:55 PM EDT] <Matt> It was a lot of fun
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:41:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It still is, to me. :)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:02 PM EDT] <revanne> Maybe that's why Cgaucer set the start of Canterbury Tales in a Tavern.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:08 PM EDT] <The_Bee> One of my nieces is in SCA. or was, not sure
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:18 PM EDT] <KK> So was I. And I've recently discovered that I have a doppelganger in Outlands somewhere, a Baroness Cecily, who is also a scribe. Haven't figured out how to contact her yet, but there's a photo of her wearing her coronet, with hair pulled back and glasses....I liverally did a doubletake when I say the pic.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:44 PM EDT] <KK> literally
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> WOW!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:51 PM EDT] <KK> saw
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:52 PM EDT] <Matt> Oh wow
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:42:56 PM EDT] <revanne> Ditto
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:43:06 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Is the pic on-line?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:43:33 PM EDT] <KK> It is. Signy von Velden made the coronet, and it's on her webpage.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:46:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, revanne (re: Chaucer and the tavern)!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:48:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh wow, Cecily does look like you, KK!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:50:28 PM EDT] <KK> Especially as I looked 30 years ago.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:51:09 PM EDT] Quit revanne (Mibbit@842092.C19ECF.14EC38.C87FB4) has left this server (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:51:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Switching back to phone since laptop appears to be trying to do an update
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:52:07 PM EDT] <Laurna> Those are pretty coronets. KK she does look like you from the sideview. but I don't imagine you ever wore your hair that way.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:52:51 PM EDT] <Laurna> I can see Lady Richenda in one of those Coronets
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:53:47 PM EDT] <KK> I did in the SCA, when I was Princess of Caid. If you were to put that picture in among others of me at that time, it would be hard to tell the difference.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:54:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> That is fun
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:54:29 PM EDT] <KK> All kinds of good coronets on that site. Very talented lady.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:55:34 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Is signy's website on Pinterest? I can't find one in her name.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:56:16 PM EDT] Quit EvieLaptop (~IceChat9@OWIRCN-e5c4a6df.al.charter.com) has left this server (Ping timeout: 121 seconds).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:57:28 PM EDT] <KK> Try googling SCA coronets Signy von Velden.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [5:59:56 PM EDT] <Laurna> I see lots of fun coronets on pinterest, but I don't see a web site. at least not yet.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:00:33 PM EDT] <KK> It might have been on pinterest. DR, where did you just find it?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:00:59 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I think I saw the photo on question, but it was on Pinterest. It was a Coronet for THL Cecily made by Signy, though
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:01:03 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Pinterest
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:01:13 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Thanks. I think I found Baroness Cecily. Does her coronet have a dark red band at the bottom?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:01:23 PM EDT] <Laurna> yrd
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:01:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> yes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:02:04 PM EDT] <KK> None of my coronets looked like that, but the hair and glasses and silhouette are me.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:02:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, the metalworkers have upped their game quite a bit in recent years.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:02:36 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I can see the resemblance.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:02:36 PM EDT] <Laurna> In the SCA do you have be royalty or a noble person to wear a coronet? do lower ladies of nobility wear any kind of circle let
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:02:44 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It depends on the kingdom.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:03:34 PM EDT] <Laurna> If your not royality can you wear a metal band to hold down your veil?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:03:40 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> That's really cool. To find my doppelganger from 30 (or slightly more) years ago, I have to find a DVD of the Zefferelli version of Romeo and Juliet
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:03:50 PM EDT] <Matt> In my kingdom Altenveldt you had to be a baron or baroness I think
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:04:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Some kingdoms require you to have a certain rank in order to wear a circlet. Trimaris has rather extensive sumptuary laws. You're assumed to be noble by virtue of participation, but in order to wear a circlet or a coronet (and sometimes specific decorations on a coronet), you have to have some sort of title.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:04:45 PM EDT] <KK> Plain circlets were always OK in Caid. Don't know what the current laws are.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:04:52 PM EDT] <Matt> Rules may have changed in the last 15 years since I was active
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:07 PM EDT] <KK> I have 2 coronets, as viscountess and as countess.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:07 PM EDT] <Laurna> Do you have to earn the title, or can you come into the group with a title already in place?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:17 PM EDT] <KK> Titles must be earned.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:26 PM EDT] <Matt> You work your way up
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:33 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> In my kingdom, you need at least an Award of Arms to wear a metal circlet of any sort, but you see leather bands, flower circlets, etc. put to that use
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:05:38 PM EDT] <Laurna> thank you nice
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:06:41 PM EDT] <The_Bee> A woman needed something to keep her veil from blowing away in a strong wind.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:06:53 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Veil pins
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:07:18 PM EDT] <Laurna> Pins don't stay in my hair. Too fine and too straight
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:07:30 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Pinned to the bands worn under the veil, or to the wimple
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:07:52 PM EDT] <The_Bee> thumb tacks? ;D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:08:02 PM EDT] <Matt> Working on laundry brb
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:08:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've been known to part my hair down the center, braid both sides, pin them over the top of my head (a la Heidi from the children's story), then put on my wimple and veil and anchor the veil pins through my braids.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:08:48 PM EDT] <Laurna> I believe in proper historical reinactments. but on a personal level. I would have trouble with that band around my chin. I think it would drive me batty. i can not wear anykind of high necked garment.

[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:09:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Rehi Revanne
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:09:31 PM EDT] <revanne> 1hi
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:09:34 PM EDT] <Laurna> Hello again Revanne
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:09:45 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I wear my veil with a wimple in winter that the veil is pinned to. In summer I'm more likely to wear a chin strap and a band that wraps around the top of my head, and pin the veil to the intersection of those two bands.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:10 PM EDT] <Laurna> Bee? are you trying to sting us with thumb tacks? lol
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm not keen on wearng anything tight on my chin/throat either, Laurna, but my wimples are handkerchief weight linen and not super tight, so I can live with wearing them because the way they're cut doesn't make me feel like I'm being strangled, LOL.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:32 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What do you folks wear for a hall costume?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Rehi revanne.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> What do you mean, hall costume?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:10:57 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Or wear a linen coif and pin a veil to that
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:11:20 PM EDT] <The_Bee> a costume that's comfortable enough to wear all day.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:11:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or a cap of St. Birgitta, which reminds me, I have some handkerchief weight linen waiting to become one or several of those.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:11:58 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Regular garb, just made from whatever fabric is suited to the local climate
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:12:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The only thing I find particularly difficult to do in my SCA garb is drive a car. Well, and avoid pinning my hem down with the feet of my cane, these days.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:12:32 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> If it's made properly, it's no less comfortable than my regular clothes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:12:49 PM EDT] <revanne> Sorry drifting off to sleep going to say G'night. Cztch you all soon - have a good week.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:12:58 PM EDT] <Laurna> Good night Revanne
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> G'night, revanne. Let me know if you want/need help with the forum/CGI.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:22 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I've driven wearing a corset, bumroll, and farthingale, but I don't highly recommend it.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:29 PM EDT] <KK> Nighters, Revanne.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:37 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Norman clothes were more comfortable than Elizabethan, I believe.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:41 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> That was a stick shift car, even
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:55 PM EDT] <revanne> Will do DR. Thanks KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:13:57 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Much more so, Bee
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:03 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Nighters, Revanne
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:04 PM EDT] Quit revanne (~Mibbit@842092.C19ECF.14EC38.C87FB4) has left this server (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Honestly, none of it is all that uncomfortable unless you're trying to do explicitly modern things like driving a car.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:19 PM EDT] <KK> Ah, yes. My only true Elizabethan, I wouldn't have tried to drive in it. Most of my garb was far earlier, and ok for driving.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:38 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Although properly fitted Elizabethan is reasonably comfortable
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:44 PM EDT] <Laurna> Driving a stick shift VW bug in hoop skirts and corset was just too funny in my younger days.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:14:50 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Bodices/corsets of the 16th C variety weren't nearly as tight as the Victorian-era ones.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:15:26 PM EDT] <KK> Actually, I suppose it was Tudor. It was the red dress worn by the young Elizabeth, in that famous painting. I also did several of the Unicorn Tapestry gowns.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:15:45 PM EDT] <Laurna> I bet that was pretty KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:15:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've been known to make jokes about bodices being "breathing-optional clothing," but that's only really true when you're lacing up and tying it. Once you're all situated, it's fairly easy to breathe, and the back support from a well-fitted bodice is amazing!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:15:51 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I even used to nap in my Elizabethan if I was too lazy to get fully undressed
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:16:07 PM EDT] <KK> But not comfortable. The corset and the hoops nearly did ne in.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:16:27 PM EDT] <KK> me
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:16:32 PM EDT] <Laurna> I rearly have trouble with the corest. It is my feet and the shoes that take me out.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:17:46 PM EDT] <The_Bee> At a Darkovercon I used a flannel nightgown as the basis for my Norman-style hall costume, with a long skirt over it.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:18:39 PM EDT] <Laurna> I like they idea that monks wore leather sandals. that would be comfortable.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:18:42 PM EDT] <KK> LOL. Reminds me of early fittings for my wedding down. I'm not a fainter, but when I was trying to wear a strapless bra in the early fittings, I got fainty and nearly went down. Had to get one of those little bra extenders to give me another inch or two. After that, it was fine.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:18:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have yet to acquire properly period shoes. I'm looking at a pattern on Etsy for leather shoes that supposedly one can sew on a regular (i.e. not industrial) sewing machine, but I'd need to get the leather or some other suitably sturdy fabric. The pattern comes with a rubber sole, which is out of period but also much safer for walking on modern floors.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:19:51 PM EDT] <The_Bee> A woman in a book I'm reading wore shoes or sandals called mules.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:20:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And I've known for a while that any shoes I get for SCA use are going to have to have rubber soles because I have far too strong a habit of wandering into the kitchen and volunteering to help the feast steward, and rubber soles are absolutely necessary in a kitchen.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:20:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Mules are just shoes that slip on and cover the foot from about the instep forward.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:20:44 PM EDT] <The_Bee> like slippers?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:20:47 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> My current garb is mostly early period. I have two Roman chitons for hot weather, a linen chemise and gown for temperate weather, and a cold weather gown made from polar fleece "wool"
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:21:33 PM EDT] <Laurna> All weather prepared. LOL
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:21:43 PM EDT] <KK> I wear mules regularly. Very comfortable, and imp[ossible to get heel blisters.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:22:06 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I like slippers that keep my ankles warm.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:22:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Sort of, yes, Bee. A lot of house slippers are mule-style.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:22:51 PM EDT] <Laurna> being a californian, it is sandals and flip-flops for me and light tennis shoes for work.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:23:15 PM EDT] <KK> I used to wear those little Chinese slisppers with the strap across the instep. Black velvet over tights worked quite well. Of course, we didn't have as many garb nazis checking for authenticity in those days. I wore a lot of "fairy-tale" garb in those days.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:23:23 PM EDT] <Laurna> Or bare foot most of the time.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:23:28 PM EDT] <The_Bee> southern, California, I assume.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:23:34 PM EDT] <Laurna> oh yes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:23:36 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've been digging in my heels about chitons; very few of the designs I've found actually cover the shoulders and arms, and I am not meandering around a campsite in the Florida sun with my skin bare like that. I burn too easily.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:10 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> SPF 50 sunscreen
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:12 PM EDT] <KK> I agree, DR. One does snot tempt the gods of Florida sunshine.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:24 PM EDT] <Laurna> I call it romantic historic. I like being almost right but with a bit of freedom
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's part of why the Indian garb; salwar kameez covers the body while also not being godawful hot.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:37 PM EDT] <KK> does not
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:24:51 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, sunscreen exists, but I have to remember to reapply it every 80 minutes.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:25:01 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'd rather just wear something that covers my arms. ;)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:25:06 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I wondered about snot tempting the gods. 😂
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:25:18 PM EDT] <KK> brb. I have a hungry hound making pitiful souncs.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:25:22 PM EDT] <KK> sounds
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:25:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Aw, poor pooch. I'm sure he's just skin and bones. (tongue firmly in cheek)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:26:20 PM EDT] <Laurna> I read that as pitiful sonics and was imagining a very high pitched hound howl
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:27:07 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I'm sure he's horribly emaciated
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:27:23 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Just ask him
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:28:50 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> I think DH just got home, so if he needs my help with shifting stuff around, I'll need to go. But he said something about cutting grass before we start on that, though.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:29:27 PM EDT] <Laurna> mans work, cutting the grass. A good out door sport
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:30:04 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> It's his outdoor sport since I'm allergic to grass
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:30:10 PM EDT] <Laurna> I did it until I fell down and broke my arm. Now I hire someone to mow the lawn
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:30:48 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Just going outside to grab the gas can and take it to the gas station for him left my skin itchy
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:31:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> My parents may start hiring out the mowing. I think my stepdad is starting to get tired of mowing nearly an acre.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:31:33 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Can't blame him there!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:31:35 PM EDT] <Laurna> That would be a bit much.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:33:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's mostly flat and he has a riding lawnmower (I shudder even to think of having to mow that with a push mower), but it's still getting to be a bit much.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:33:57 PM EDT] <Laurna> A riding lawn mower would be fun.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:33:59 PM EDT] <KK> Still chortling. On the way to the dog';s food bowl, as he did the supper dance, I had to admonish him not to trample the cat.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:34:18 PM EDT] <Laurna> Love doggy happy dances
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:34:20 PM EDT] <DesertRose> ROFL!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:34:20 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> LOL
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:34:47 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Booker? Gus-cat or Nicky-cat>|?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:35:07 PM EDT] <KK> Bookeroo Banzai is very food-motivated. ;-)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:35:15 PM EDT] <KK> Nicky cat.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:35:15 PM EDT] <Laurna> lol
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:35:21 PM EDT] <The_Bee> LOL!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:36:15 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Gus is probably doing the usual Follow Katherine Wherever She Goes bit. :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:36:21 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Are those three your only current pets?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:37:03 PM EDT] <KK> Yes.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:37:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> That is a good three, one for the lap and one for each hand to pet.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:37:49 PM EDT] <Laurna> especially when watching TV or reading
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:38:03 PM EDT] <KK> I also fed the Nicky cat, and changed his piddle pad.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:38:19 PM EDT] <KK> But he is not a lap cat, sadly.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:38:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Well, where's Gus' kitty food? :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:38:29 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Nicky's getting old.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:38:31 PM EDT] <DesertRose> (I'm kidding)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:39:35 PM EDT] <KK> Gus is probably up in the bedroom. And he mostly eats dry crunchies--wet food often makes him barf--so I can keep a ready supply of the dry in the bathtub (which I don't use), and fresh water. Dog can't get it in there, and cat can get at it anytime he wants.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:40:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys mostly gets dry food too. Every so often, I'll get a few cans of wet food for her, but mostly it's kibble plus whatever cheese she can pester me into giving her, LOL.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:41:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She's snoozing beside me right now.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:41:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Melantha needs a special kidney-care diet. dry nd moist
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:41:30 PM EDT] <KK> Nicky is 19 this year, so yes, he's old. And getting creakier biy the day, though appetite is still great. The piddling is becoming more and more of a problem, though. The piddle pads help, but there are several dd places there it isn't practical to put a piddle pad. Don't know how much lo9nger I can contend with that.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:41:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Wow, yeah, that's excellent innings for a cat.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:42:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's good that he still feels like eating and drinking, though.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:42:16 PM EDT] <KK> He's a sweet old dear.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:42:39 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Roxie more or less lost her bladder control in her last few years; she lived to be 18..
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:43:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Not sure why I have two full stops at the end of that sentence. Rented fingers, LOL.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:43:49 PM EDT] <KK> Mostly sleeps. Lately, he's gone back to a corner in the cat pantry (where the food is), but when it gets a bit colder, he'll return to the guest bath, where he can curl up next to a radiator. No cushion. Just bare oak floor. But he seems to like it that way.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:44:04 PM EDT] <Laurna> Wow good ages for kitties
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:44:37 PM EDT] <KK> Yep. And Gus is 17, though you'd never know it to look at him.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:44:56 PM EDT] <The_Bee> good kitty-genes>
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:45:02 PM EDT] <Laurna> My cat is younger, but she is always on the guest bed pillows or on the back of the couch.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:45:32 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Luke is around 15 now and is starting to act like an elderly kitty. Gigi is a few years younger.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:01 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Melantha is 13. She's been very lucky since her cancer surgery in 2015.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:02 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys has learned a new trick: https://i.rmbl.ws/s8/2/N/a/a/1/Naa1a.caa.2.mp4?b=0&u=8k2f
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:05 PM EDT] <Laurna> Give Luke a petting for us
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:16 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, kitty pettings all around!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:37 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Carys drives a car??!!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:45 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She'll reach up and pat my left thigh to get my attention; it cracks me up.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:46:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Not sure what you mean, Bee.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:47:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh heck
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:47:54 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That's not what I meant to post!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:47:55 PM EDT] <The_Bee> The picture I got showed a car speeding by, then a fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:48:11 PM EDT] <KK> Carys wipes out tanker trucks? (THe site is snot what you think it is, DR>)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:48:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> https://i.postimg.cc/Y92hmswD/Carys-politely-requests-my-attention-5-Oct-2019-sm.jpg
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:48:50 PM EDT] <KK> Awww....
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:48:54 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I thought maybe Carys had taken up arson as a hobby.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:49:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, that video was something I looked at earlier, and the browser I'm using isn't always cooperative when it comes to playing video, so I had copied the link to the video to open in a different browser and I THOUGHT I had copied the link to the photo and didn't really pay attention to what showed up when I pasted.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:49:40 PM EDT] <KK> These things happen.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:49:52 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Melantha washes my face when I'm trying to sleep.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:50:16 PM EDT] <Laurna> DR That was some big rig fire WOW
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:51:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, and in addition to being curious about why the guy filming didn't back off WAY sooner, I'd like to know why the fire department left and didn't come back for a good while.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:51:44 PM EDT] <KK> Can we say, "Total loss"?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:52:12 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah. I'd be less worried about my car and more worried about not being burnt to death.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:52:12 PM EDT] <Laurna> oh yes
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:53:07 PM EDT] <Laurna> Of course with out his car, he can't go anywhere. He should have thought to move his car. early on.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:53:15 PM EDT] <Laurna> hope he has friends close by
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:54:46 PM EDT] <KK> It was a (gas) tanker trucks. I'm surprised it didn't go sosoner.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:55:10 PM EDT] <Laurna> Needed air to burn
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:55:38 PM EDT] <The_Bee> The guy filming it had to be standing on the far side of the highway, since the traffic is going by betwen him and the fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:56:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, but he still could have either walked away earlier than he did or gotten in his car earlier and moved farther from the fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:56:27 PM EDT] <Laurna> No way to put that out until the gas burned off
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:57:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I mean, I get the impulse to watch and film, but there's such a thing as getting the hell out of the way of something as obviously dangerous as a tanker on fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:57:56 PM EDT] <Laurna> We had a Jet fighter plan go down in a building next to the freeway about a mile from my house. They closed off everything worried that it would explode and that the missles on board would then go off too. But fortunitly there was not fire at all. freeway was still closed for two days while they cleaned it up.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:58:23 PM EDT] <KK> Nope. That may be why the first fire truck left, to summon backup and downright assistance. But at least he was spraying from a loooong book, well back from the fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:58:41 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What I meant was, the camera is on the opposite side of the road from the fire.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [6:59:02 PM EDT] <KK> loooong boom!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:00:38 PM EDT] <Laurna> Love the conversations on here. from coronets to firetrucks. LOL
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:02:16 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Yes. We talk about anything that's on our minds.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:02:24 PM EDT] <KK> Speaking of flying things going down--I was so sad to see that the B-17 crashed in Connecticut this past week. There's a B-24 in that Collingwood flight, that Cameron got to fly on some years ago. (It was our birthday present to him that year.) His grandfather flew those in WW II. He was lead bombadier in his squadron, and dropped many tons of bombs on the bad guys and their installations. Cameron loved it. Got to ride up in the nose, w
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:02:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And cats and dogs.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:02:51 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Ooh, that sounds fascinating, Cameron's ride on the B-24.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:02:56 PM EDT] <The_Bee> and Jasta. :(
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:03:10 PM EDT] <Laurna> Wow KK
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:03:39 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Scott's father?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:04:36 PM EDT] <KK> Yeah. We saw that B-17 on the ground. It was also giving people rides that day. Very cool. Lots of Air Corps vets there that day, fascinating talking to them. Not many left these days.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:04:49 PM EDT] <KK> Yes, Bee.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:05:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I wonder if my grandfather flew on any planes. He was a radio operator in the Army Air Corps (which became the Air Force in 1947), in WWII in the Pacific. I'll have to ask Mom if she knows.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:05:45 PM EDT] <KK> The co9llingwood planes come every year to our regional airport. That's how we found out about them; saw them when we were flying out somewhere from there.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:05:59 PM EDT] <Laurna> Cool
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:07:05 PM EDT] <The_Bee> One WWII vet just turned 100. He loves bowling, so he got lifetime free bowling for his birthday.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:07:20 PM EDT] <KK> It was neat, looking down at them as we took off. Not many left anymore, and fewer and fewer that are still airworthy. They weren't designed to last this long, and there's no one left who can work on them. All part of the greatest generation.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:07:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I keep wanting to visit the Mighty 8th museum that's right off I-95 near Savannah.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:08:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Wasn't Wrengl a fan of old planes?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:08:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It has a couple of WWII era planes on display that you can see from the interstate. I might pester my parents about it if we go up to Charleston for Thanksgiving or something.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:09:41 PM EDT] <Laurna> We have an air museum here at march airforce base. It has been a few years since I went. Not sure I could climb up the ladder into those planes anymore.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:09:45 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I want to see Snoopy vs the Red Baron. ;)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:10:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, no way can I climb ladders, but I bet there's a lot of other cool information to learn and cool things to see that don't require climbing up into seventy- or eighty-year-old airplanes.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:11:21 PM EDT] <KK> When I was researching Lammas Night, I went to the RAF Museum in Hendon, and got to go aboard the Sunderland Flying Boat that they have in there. When they were measuring for the hangar that houses the collection, they forgot to figure in that the tips of the wings aren't on the ground, so wouldn't have fit in the quonset-hut shaped hangar, so they had to bob the wingtips and refashion them. THey look fine, but that ploane can never fly aga
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:11:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And that's cool about the WWII vet getting free bowling.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:11:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Aw, that's a shame, re: Sunderland.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:12:42 PM EDT] <KK> Yeah, they were grand old birds.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:12:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, speaking of airplanes: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1691116534325084/ This FB group is a great way to brighten your day.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:14:07 PM EDT] <KK> We used to have seaplanes on the causeway going from Miami to Miami beach, that used to fly out to the Bahamas. My dad went out on them several times, when he was working with marine radio telephones in the 50's. SAll very different technology in those days.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:14:39 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And I can almost feel Jemler's ghost ribbing me about promoting a Facebook group that is so dependent upon puns. ;)
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:15:25 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> 😊

[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:18:09 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Oops! Author down! Author down!
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:18:20 PM EDT] <Laurna> oops
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:18:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She usually says her goodbyes before leaving, so I'm guessing that it's an oops.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:18:24 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I say an oops. She wouldn't leave without saying goodbye.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:18:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, Bee, great minds think alike. :D
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:21:11 PM EDT] <The_Bee> She may come back just to say goodbye.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:21:16 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Speaking of saying goodbye, I need to head out
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:21:35 PM EDT] <Eris> <Evie> Phone is getting low on charge

[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:22:53 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Did you hit the wrong button, KK?
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:23:09 PM EDT] <KK> Sorry, I got booted. Over-reached to the left, and it put me down a wormhole that I couldn't get out of except by ctrl alt del. And then it wanted pin numbers and such. Cameron is coming in a few weeks, and we're going to have a serious talk about how this all works since he updated everything a few months ago.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:23:40 PM EDT] <KK> Anyway, see you all next week at our usual time.
[Sunday, October 6, 2019] [7:23:45 PM EDT] <The_Bee> You're lucky to have a computer-savvy son.

"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
