DesertRose

Here are some basic IRC commands (from https://gist.github.com/xero/2d6e4b061b4ecbeb9f99

Don't type the quotation marks when you use any of these commands.  Also, to enter a command into any IRC client, you have to start with the forward slash; that basically tells IRC that what you're typing is a command, rather than a regular message in the chatroom.

  • "/join [#channel]"   Joins the specified channel.  (For our uses, you would type "/join #deryni_destinations".)

  • "/nick [nickname]"  Changes your nickname.  If I wanted to indicate that I went to eat supper, I might type, "/nick DR_supper."

  • "/msg [nickname] [message]"  Sends a private message to a user.  For example, if you wanted to ask me if KK was planning to join that evening, but you didn't want to put it in the chatroom with everyone else, you'd type "/msg DesertRose Is KK going to be in chat tonight?"

  • "/me [action]"   Prints "yourname action"  For example, if I wanted to make a joke about being tired, I'd type, "/me flops onto the chair and falls asleep." It would display "DesertRose flops onto the chair and falls asleep." in the chatroom.

  • "/quit [message]"  Disconnects from current server with optional leaving message.  The message is optional, but if I typed, "/quit DesertRose had to feed the cat," it might look like, "Quit.  DesertRose had to feed the cat."

  • "!roll 2d6" (or "!roll [number of dice][lower-case D][number of sides any given die has]") to roll dice for role-playing games.

I hope that helps!  :D

ETA:  The linked list has many more commands than are listed above, but I edited the list to remove commands that most Deryni chatters won't/don't use, as well as the channel operator/admin commands that regular chatters can't use.

ETA2:  Edited to add the dice-rolling command sequence.
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
