[18:07]<KK> Hi, guys.
[18:07]<the_Bee> Hello KK!  I see I'm just in time.
[18:08]<jlcsusara_> :)
[18:08]<KK> Yeah, I was a bit late--unloading dryer and transferring wet wash into the dryer.
[18:08]<KK> We had 5 houseguests on Thursday and Friday nights, and practically ever sheet and towel in the house got used.
[18:08]<the_Bee> I have Senior Services' laundry to handle that.
[18:09]<KK> I still had to strip beds and gather up towels all over the house.  Bet Senior Services doesn't do <that> for you! ;-)
[18:10]<KK> They were good house guests, though.
[18:10]<the_Bee> True.  Any oother exciting developments?
[18:10]<KK> No, fairly routine week.  Got some writing done.  It's moving well now.
[18:11]* the_Bee is trying to keep KK occupied until the rest of the charrers can arrive.
[18:11]<the_Bee> chatter too
[18:11]<the_Bee> chatterS.
[18:11]<KK> Is Sarah asleep at the switch, or just doing other things while she's logged on?
[18:12]<the_Bee> dunno.  Shiral said she'd be working today.
[18:12]<KK> And Bynw?
[18:12]<KK> Bummer for Shiral.
[18:12]<Temprus> She is in the corner sulking because jemler came in and left too quickly ;D
[18:12]<jlcsusara_> KK, who inspired you to write?
[18:13]<KK> God?  Life?  Cant remember that it was any particular person.
[18:13]<jlcsusara_> :)
[18:13]<KK> I've just always told and read stories.
[18:14]<jlcsusara_> cool!
[18:14]<KK> I did have a couple of professors at university who encouraged me.  The first two books are dedicated to them.
[18:15]<jlcsusara_> encouragement helps a lot :)
[18:15]<KK> Yes, and they taught me the tools for being a good writer.
[18:16]<the_Bee> "Write what you know" and...?
[18:16]<KK> And read about what you don't know.
[18:16]<the_Bee> LOL
[18:16]<jlcsusara_> nice. any favorite writers/books?
[18:16]<KK> And in general, read, read, read.
[18:17]<KK> Heinlein, Norton, Frank Herbert's Dune (but none of his other stuff).
[18:17]<jlcsusara_> :)
[18:18]<jlcsusara_> haven't read much of Nortons but I love Heinlien and Dune :D
[18:18]<the_Bee> I've never dared tackle Dune; it seems too overwhelming.
[18:18]<jlcsusara_> its wonderful, the_Bee
[18:18]<KK> Most of Norton's are juveniles, but that's what I was, when I was reading them.  Starman's Son made a big impression.
[18:19]<the_Bee> I've mostly read her Witch World novels.
[18:19]<KK> Be brave, Bee.  And don't worry about any of the other books in the series.  Dune itself is a masterwork, and justified his existence on the planet if he hadn't written another word.
[18:19]<jlcsusara_> very true!
[18:20]<jlcsusara_> my 1st sci-fi book was "Tunnel in the Sky" by Heinlein
[18:21]<KK> Lately, I've been hooked on David Weber's Honor Harrington series, and I much enjoyed the early books in the King's Blade series.  And of course, Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series.
[18:21]<KK> Starship Troopers!
[18:21]<jlcsusara_> yay!
[18:21]<jlcsusara_> The Moon is a Harsh Mistress!
[18:21]<Temprus> bee, try dune on audio book, most library's can let you rent it free
[18:22]<the_Bee> Thanks for the pep talk.  I've started a trilogy by a new author named Kathleen Bryan.  It's set in a land that resembles Medieval France; and it involves an order of knights persecuted by a king.  Templat inspiration maybe...?
[18:22]<KK> Yes, and Stranger in a Strange Land, though his later works did get a little strange themselves.
[18:22]<KK> What's the name of the trilogy, Bee?
[18:23]<jlcsusara_> KK, very strange :) but still cool
[18:23]* jojo (Mibbit@OWIRCN-28528b17.mibbit.com) has joined #deryni_destinations
[18:23]<jlcsusara_> Dune the movie was Good but the novel is Superb :)
[18:23]<jojo> Hello all
[18:23]<the_Bee> "The War of the Rose." v. 1 is The Serpent and the Rose; v. 2 is The golden Rose.  I'll have to look up the third.
[18:24]<jlcsusara_> hi jojo
[18:24]<the_Bee> hi jo!  howyadoing?
[18:24]<KK> Which Dune the Movie?  The TV miniseries was probably the best, to my way of thinking.
[18:24]<Temprus> agreed :D
[18:25]<jojo> Well thanks
[18:25]<jojo> ditto
[18:26]<the_Bee> any Nancy Kress fans here?  I especially enjoyed her "Probabiliy" trilogy.
[18:26]<Temprus> howdy, jojo
[18:28]<Sarah> omg where did all these people come from?? O.o lol
[18:28]<the_Bee> finished sulking, Sarah?
[18:29]<KK> We were told you were sulking/pouting in a corner.  Glad you're back.  ;-)
[18:29]<Sarah> i wasnt sulking... ?
[18:29]<Sarah> i was afk
[18:29]<Temprus> I was kidding :D
[18:29]* Sarah throws a pen at Temprus
[18:29]<Temprus> I used a winky smiley :D
[18:29]<the_Bee> aklqw7;ol90ujhy0-
[18:29]<Temprus> mirc needs real smileys :D
[18:30]<KK> Must be a cat on Bee's keyboard.
[18:30]<the_Bee> 5TR0
[18:30]<the_Bee> YUP
[18:30]<Sarah> lol
[18:31]<the_Bee> iMelantha the min-panther
[18:32]<KK> BRB
[18:32]<the_Bee> g me1therr-panmini  mini- panther  00sin
[18:33]<Sarah> heh
[18:33]<jojo> touch typing is a challenge with
[18:33]<jojo> paws or claws!
[18:34]<Sarah> lol yep
[18:34]<the_Bee> and fingers when she bites them
[18:35]<KK> Gus does that, too.
[18:36]<jojo> Maybe a little tabasco on your fingers.. that's how my Mom's family fought thumbsucking tots..
[18:36]<jojo> :P
[18:37]<the_Bee> I sucked my yhumb til I was almost 9. My mom bribed me to do one month without.
[18:37]<KK> Didn't work on nail-biting.  But finally, I was <determined> to have fingernails for the 8th grade dance--andnever went back.
[18:38]<KK> I wanted to wear nail polish, and I did.
[18:39]<KK> I remember lying in bed and hooding up my fingers in front of the hall light, and finally being able to see nails peeking over the fingers.  A great moment of growing up.
[18:39]<KK> holding the fingers....
[18:41]<KK> Boy, <that> true confession really stopped chat!
[18:41]<jlcsusara_> lol
[18:42]<the_Bee> so how is the writing going?
[18:42]<KK> It's going well.  I got a fair amount written this week.
[18:43]<the_Bee> remind me--do you have a final title?
[18:43]* jojo sends kudos to the creative one
[18:43]<KK> Alaric has just arrived back in Culdi with Duncan, Llion, and Tesselin (who is Llion's counterpart for Duncan).  Duke Andrew is duing, and Kenneth and Jraed went on ahead when they got the news.
[18:43]<KK> No final title yet.
[18:44]<KK> dying
[18:44]<the_Bee> we need a new finger-rental shop.
[18:44]<KK> Yep.
[18:47]<the_Bee> Did you ever decide if Jared and Kenneth were first or second cousins?
[18:47]<jlcsusara_> KK, if you had a chance to re-write your novels... which one would you pick?
[18:48]<KK> Fortunately, I'm getting the chance to do minor rewrites on some of them already: DR, DC, HD, to date.  And I hope to reissue Lammas Night with light edit.  But there aren't any I'd want to rewrite, as such.  Just light polishing, in a few cases.
[18:49]<jlcsusara_> good point :)
[18:50]<KK> After all, I've told those stories.
[18:50]<Temprus> kk is not of the Michael Morecock/George Lucas school of thought of "re-writing"
[18:50]<Temprus> crap, moorcock, sigh
[18:51]<jojo> Strong characters, big conflicts, driving plot are hard to beat.
[18:51]<KK> I've not read that much of his; not really my style.  But has Lucas rewritten?  I thought he'd just expanded.
[18:52]<Temprus> both of them complete changed scens when supposedly just touching up or expanding their old works
[18:52]<Temprus> sigh
[18:52]<Temprus> both of them completely changed scenes when supposedly just touching up or expanding their old works
[18:52]* Temprus is over-multitasking
[18:53]<the_Bee> We hear the echo, Temprus.
[18:53]<jojo> Seems as though Lucas let the superior FX tech drive some of the changes
[18:53]<KK> Can you give me some examples?
[18:54]<Temprus> Best example is the Greedo now shoots first in the bar scene in star wars
[18:54]<jojo> The new ending to SW V
[18:55]<the_Bee> I've seen only the original trilogy.
[18:55]<Temprus> C-3P0 having the silver leg in a New Hope and beyond
[18:55]<KK> Hmmm, not aware of those.  I do know he did some re-editing to include some extra scenes & expand on some others.
[18:56]<KK> But I haven't studied the later versions.
[18:56]<KK> What's the new ending to V?
[18:57]<jojo> It is more of an emotive result from the visual, now that I think more about it... but I'm a bit fuzzy on details..
[18:57]<jojo> Temprus has more of a handle on the details.
[18:58]<the_Bee> Is V "the Empire Strikes Back"? It originally had a cliff-hanger ending IIRC.
[18:59]<jojo> yes still does. just visually different.
[19:00]<Temprus> I failed to notice or don't remember the re-done ending to Empire, been a few years
[19:01]<Temprus> Greedo shooting first created the "Han Shot First" internet meme
[19:03]<KK> Ah, well.  Gotta go, gang.  My guys are hungry, and I promised I'd cook tonight.
[19:03]<jojo> Have a great week!
[19:03]<the_Bee> nighter, Kk.  Have a good week. Whatcha cooking?
[19:03]<Temprus> Thank you for visiting, have a god week
[19:03]* KK stope onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[19:03]<KK> Fish, I think.
[19:04]<the_Bee> yummy
[19:04]<KK> See you next week, hopefully with word of extraordinary progress.
[19:04]<Temprus> Sign, mirc needs to have a built-in editor for my typos and grammmar :D
[19:04]* KK has quit (Quit: )
