Title: Chat Client Information
Post by: DesertRose on March 15, 2018, 09:52:54 PM
So, you've downloaded the chat client program you want to use.  (Examples are: mIRC, IceChat, HexChat, and Konversation [Linux exclusive], but there are many other programs; use what you like.)

In order to get to the Deryni Destinations chatroom, you will open your chat client and look for the network list.

The network for our chatroom is called Communiti Chat.  If it's not in the network list, you can add it.  (It should be a function labeled something like "New Network.")

The address for the Communiti Chat IRC network is "irc.communiti.chat/6667"  (without the quotation marks).

The part that reads: "irc.communiti.chat" is the actual address of the network/server.  The "6667" part is the port number; some chat clients will ask you to enter that information into separate fields.

If you want to set up the client so that it automatically brings you into the Deryni Destinations chat room, the program should have an "Autojoin Channels" option.  You will put "#deryni_destinations" into that field (again, without the quotation marks).

If you have a registered nickname on the server, you may also want to add a command on connection so that the program enters your nickname password for you.  There will probably be an option like "Connect Commands," and in that field you will enter "/msg nickserv identify [your nickname password here]"  (no quotation marks, again).  Some chat clients don't require the slash before the command, some do.  If it doesn't work with the slash, try again without the slash.
