[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:11:28 PM EDT] <bynw> hi kk
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:11:30 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:11:52 PM EDT] * Shiral puts out tea and cake on the chat table
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:00 PM EDT] <KK> Hello, all.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:11 PM EDT] * DesertRose puts out imaginary banana bread (since I have the stuff to bake some but haven't done so yet).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:12 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Yay for tea and cake
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> "You! Cake or death?" :P
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:42 PM EDT] * Evie puts out oatmeal craisin cookies with orange-flavored craisins in them, because ditto
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:12:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> And banana bread, a favorite
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:13:21 PM EDT] * Bee adds manchet bread with butter, honey and strawberry preserves
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:13:22 PM EDT] <Evie> Also green tea mochi ice cream, which I just bought this afternoon
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:13:22 PM EDT] <judyward> Can we have some scones & cream & butter & jam?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:13:37 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Oooh, this is getting better and better, a feast
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:13:53 PM EDT] <judyward> HEB 1905 Vanilla Ice Cream!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:06 PM EDT] * Bee adds scones to go with the butter and jam.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:09 PM EDT] <KK> Judyward, you rock!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:21 PM EDT] <Evie> I'm envious, Judy. We don't have HEB here
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:27 PM EDT] <judyward> I like the good stuff!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:45 PM EDT] <Shiral> Honestly, you give people the crumpets and they immediately want the cream and jam!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:45 PM EDT] <Bee> HEB?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> =o)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:48 PM EDT] <judyward> It's a state treasure, mostly
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:14:49 PM EDT] <Derynifank> What is HEB?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:05 PM EDT] <Evie> It's a grocery chain they have in TX. Not sure what other states, if any
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:10 PM EDT] <judyward> Big grocery & whatnot stores in TX.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:21 PM EDT] <judyward> They used to have one in Louisiana
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:25 PM EDT] <Evie> But it's like grocery paradise. You walk in, the heavens open, angels sing.... ;-)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:35 PM EDT] <Shiral> Now that we have provisions, how has everyone's week gone?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:37 PM EDT] <Evie> Your wallet thanks you.... :-D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:43 PM EDT] <judyward> Yes, Evie! Well, almost!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:15:58 PM EDT] <judyward> They have 80 % of the grocery market in TX
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:03 PM EDT] <Evie> (As I recall, there's no grocery tax in TX. So yes, my wallet would definitely thank me!)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:03 PM EDT] <Bee> pretty well,, Shiral
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Like Publix here. :)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:11 PM EDT] <judyward> And they do all kinds of good works, too.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:15 PM EDT] <jemler> hi kk, shiral
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:39 PM EDT] <judyward> No grocery tax, but non-food items are taxed as well as candy, etc.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:16:57 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I think they still have HEB in Louisiana. Possibly also Oklahoma and Arkansas and maybe Missouri.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:11 PM EDT] <judyward> I never heard of one in MO
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:21 PM EDT] <Evie> Yes, but if you consider that my local tax is 10%, I sure would love to save that extra charge on food items!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:38 PM EDT] <Bee> Here we tax about everything but food and clothing.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:40 PM EDT] <judyward> That is a lot for food necessities
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Florida is the same way; most food isn't subject to sales tax (soda and candy and the like is, but like, canned goods and rice and fresh produce and meat aren't).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:17:54 PM EDT] <judyward> We have tax on clothing.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> We have sales tax on clothing too, I think.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:21 PM EDT] <judyward> Just got 2 tops at Stein Mart for my niece's wedding week after next.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:34 PM EDT] <Evie> We do too, unless it's the tax free weekend before school starts
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I found a dress at a Stein Mart about a year ago that I almost bought for my cousin's wedding that I wound up missing anyway.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:47 PM EDT] <judyward> Yep, we have tax free weekends, too.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:18:54 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It was a cute dress, though, and it was like $18.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:19:15 PM EDT] <judyward> They have a LOT of cute stuff and the larger sizes, too.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:19:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yup. A skinny Minnie I am not. :)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:19:35 PM EDT] <Evie> Anything that can count as an educational expense, including clothing, is tax free on that weekend. Even if you aren't a student. That's actually how I got the laptop I'm using now.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:19:47 PM EDT] <judyward> Me neither, i hate those mirrors in the try on rooms
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:20:10 PM EDT] <judyward> Good deal, Evie. Same here about the items
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:20:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Stein Mart, Ross, TJMaxx, Marshalls are all hit or miss as far as "will they have something I like in my size?" but the prices are worth taking the time to look. :D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:20:29 PM EDT] <judyward> yep, DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:20:58 PM EDT] <Evie> I bought my favorite dress at our new Ross when it opened. It was all of $8, and I've had more compliments on it than just about anything else I wear.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:20:58 PM EDT] <Bee> I've gotten some bargains at Old navy.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:04 PM EDT] <judyward> I'm trying to decide if I can get away with wearing my very sparkly nail do to the wedding
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:34 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The Ross up by my parents' house had this pair of shoes last year that I would so have bought except they were (gasp!) too big! They were either a 12 or 13 (I mostly wear 11), but they were THE COOLEST gray plaid t-strap pumps. I have no idea where I'd have worn them, but they were just that cool.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:37 PM EDT] <Bee> If not at a wedding, then when?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:42 PM EDT] Join Dennis (Dennis@OWIRCN-78a24613.ma.comcast.net) has joined this channel.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:49 PM EDT] <Bee> Hi Dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:51 PM EDT] <Evie> I assure you that at my wedding, I didn't bother to look at anyone else's fingernails. ;-)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:56 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Kohl's has nice things with a variety of sizes and lots Nis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:21:59 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi, Dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:22:08 PM EDT] <judyward> That's what I'm thinking, Bee.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:22:13 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Sales
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:22:32 PM EDT] <Evie> hi Dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:22:57 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Unless the bride is a real Bridezilla, I don't think she's going to spare an eighth of a thought for your manicure, judyward! :D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:01 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi Dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:04 PM EDT] <jemler> hi dennis
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:11 PM EDT] <KK> Exactly, Bee. Go for it, Judyward!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:19 PM EDT] <judyward> She's not a Bridezilla & is about ready to elope
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:27 PM EDT] <Evie> Unless you're in the bridal party and have all agreed to wear the same color polish or something.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:39 PM EDT] <judyward> No & no
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I can't per se recommend elopement (my experience with it kinda sucked), but I hear tell wedding planning is a nightmare.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or at least, it can be.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:23:57 PM EDT] <Evie> I was sort of the anti-Bridezilla, though. My bridesmaids had to force me to come up with SOME opinions. LOL!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:24:02 PM EDT] <judyward> She is soooo tired of it.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:24:23 PM EDT] <Bee> I have a qquestion: What kind of harp would a wandering minstrel wander with? The ones I've seen played are kind of big to lug around on your back.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:24:38 PM EDT] <judyward> Lou & I got married in the chapel on the 4th floor of theTexas Capital
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:02 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I thought, back when I thought I'd remarry at all, that I'd have my honor attendant pick out a multicolor print suitable for a wedding attendant's dress and then the other bridesmaids could pick a color from the print that suited them best, and the dresses would have all been the same design.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> There's such thing as a lap harp, Bee.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:21 PM EDT] <Derynifank> The lady doing my reception went into the hospital with acute gallbladder attack. Talk about panic
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yikes!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:30 PM EDT] <Evie> I actually wouldn't know, re: wedding planning. I had strong opinions on my dress, and I knew what colors I wanted for my bridesmaids to wear, and that the flowers would have to coordinate with that, but otherwise I left it all to my Mom, since she lived close to the church where I was getting
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:30 PM EDT] <Evie> married and I was living almost 2 hours away.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:35 PM EDT] <judyward> That would have been a good idea, DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:36 PM EDT] <Derynifank> A week before the wedding
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:25:56 PM EDT] <Evie> Bee, look up Celtic lap harps
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:26:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I also considered (when I was still going to do May graduation) having my graduation dress made for me and designed such that I could wear it as a wedding dress later.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:26:28 PM EDT] <Bee> My younger siter did that. The attendants were oout nieces, and they all wore differnt ccolored gingham dresses.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:26:33 PM EDT] <judyward> On, no, DFK! That's an emergency!!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:27:05 PM EDT] <judyward> On both counts, DFK
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:27:18 PM EDT] <Derynifank> So true
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:27:19 PM EDT] <jemler> ahh! Baklava for dessert!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:27:38 PM EDT] <judyward> Wedding cake if it's good.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:27:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I went to the College of Charleston, and they don't do graduation gowns for undergrads. In May, the women are in white dresses carrying a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses, and the men are in white dinner jackets with red rose boutonnieres. In December, black dresses and black dinner jackets, but the same deal.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:28:07 PM EDT] <judyward> Sounds nice
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:28:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's very pretty, but I wound up deciding not to do the May ceremony because you could invite only three people and I have a huge extended family.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:28:44 PM EDT] Quit Derynifank (Derynifank@OWIRCN-dc339139.hr.cox.net) has left this server (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:28:49 PM EDT] <DesertRose> So I technically finished in May, but I didn't walk until that December, in black, where my whole family could show up. :D

[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:13 PM EDT] <judyward> Good for you for waiting.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:21 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Also, the May ceremony is outdoors. In Charleston, SC. HOT is not even the word. :D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:24 PM EDT] <Bee> rrehi DFK
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Rehi Derynifank
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:37 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi again, DFK
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:38 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Lutes
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:29:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> So how has your week been, KK?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:30:10 PM EDT] <Evie> What about lutes, DFK?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:30:22 PM EDT] <judyward> How's your Mom, KK?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:30:27 PM EDT] * Evie plucks imaginary lute strings
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:30:35 PM EDT] <Derynifank> It keeps telling me I'M reconnected when Indidn't even know I was disconnected
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:30:44 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Laurna mentioned that she's at a sewing day, sewing her bridesmaid's dress for her sister's wedding, BTW.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:11 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Lutes for wandering minstrels
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She says hi and she'll catch up on the log later.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:22 PM EDT] <Bee> MY mothers's students made her wedding dress.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:43 PM EDT] <judyward> That was nice of them & nice of Laurna, too
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That is cool
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:55 PM EDT] <Evie> My roommate at the time was one of my bridesmaids, so she sewed the two bridesmaid dresses and the flower girl dress
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:31:58 PM EDT] <KK> Week was ok. Mom is ok, though went for a regular dental appointment and they found 5 cavities that need to be filled, this Wednesday. She isn't brushing well enough.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:32:16 PM EDT] <Evie> Oh dear, KK
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:32:54 PM EDT] <judyward> Part of the aging process. She might be forgetting to brush sometimes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:00 PM EDT] <Evie> At least they're talking fillings and not crowns
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:01 PM EDT] <Shiral> Parents can be high maintainence
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:03 PM EDT] <KK> Yep, and I expect that there will be a LOT of resistance to go on Wednesday. She does not do well with the anticipation of pain, never mind the pain itself.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:25 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Ugh, poor LBM.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:31 PM EDT] <Bee> Does anesthetic help?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:31 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I have heard that a water pic helps a lot with preventing cavities, better than flossing
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:33:34 PM EDT] <judyward> Bless her heart! I don't blame her, but you will have a hard time of it.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:34:12 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I feel really bad for her
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:34:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have to decide if I'm going to appeal a decision by my insurance company re: my dental care. I *should* appeal it, in terms of "they have no good reason to deny the treatment," but I'm not sure I have the energy because the insurance company has yanked me around so hard about dental care.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:34:40 PM EDT] <KK> No "might be" involved. She is NOT brushing well enough or as regularly enough, plus, she insists on using a flat-headed"paddle" brush that doesn't do a decent job close to the gumline, which is where all the cavities are. And it's only been 6 months since her last visit. We're shifting to an every-4 months schedule, but that doesn't help with these.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:35:21 PM EDT] <KK> She'll get numbing, but THAT hurts. Can't win.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:35:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> :(
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:35:28 PM EDT] <judyward> Oh, no. Can you get her to change? She still lives alone?

[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:05 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi, again, DFK
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:06 PM EDT] <Bee> wbdfk
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:16 PM EDT] <KK> She has 24-hr. home help. I've asked them to pay closer attention to the situation, and make sure she brushes twice a day. She SAYS she's brushing at least once a day, but I doubt it.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:27 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I think I need duct tape
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:33 PM EDT] <judyward> They do need to watch closer!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:43 PM EDT] <Evie> Can her paddle toothbrush just vanish one day and get replaced with a better one?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:36:54 PM EDT] <Evie> I am assuming she can't simply drive out and buy another one
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:37:05 PM EDT] <Bee> like an electric toothbrush
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:37:07 PM EDT] <KK> That could happen. Hadn't thought about that. ;-)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:37:40 PM EDT] <judyward> Lou is over here reading desserts of the PX on line store.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:37:42 PM EDT] <KK> Bought her an electric toothbrush; she wouldn't use it, and eventually gave it away.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:37:58 PM EDT] <Evie> The other end of the age spectrum, but I remember when the Pull-Ups fairy had to come and take all of the remaining Pull-Ups away and leave Big Girl Panties in their place. ;-)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:38:00 PM EDT] <judyward> How about a good mouth wash?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:38:24 PM EDT] <judyward> That was creative, DR!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:38:33 PM EDT] <judyward> Oh, sorry! Evie!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:38:36 PM EDT] Quit Derynifank (Derynifank@OWIRCN-dc339139.hr.cox.net) has left this server (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:38:37 PM EDT] <Evie> Otherwise my kid would have been wearing Pull-Ups until she went to kindergarten, if it were up to her. LOL!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:39:23 PM EDT] <Bee> Don't you pull up regular panties?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:40:09 PM EDT] <Evie> Yes, but Pull-Ups feel like regular diapers, so if they're wet, they're not clingy and unpleasant feeling against the body. There's less incentive to learn how to use the potty properly.

[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:40:56 PM EDT] <Evie> Both of my kids were fully potty trained within about 2 weeks of transitioning to regular cloth undies. They hated feeling wet!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:40:59 PM EDT] <Bee> I wet my bed when I was four.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:41:23 PM EDT] <judyward> When they finally put Mom in adult Pull-ups she hated them. Called them diapers.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:41:29 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I give up
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:41:52 PM EDT] <bynw> there is a cat taking up half my chair .... maybe i should go get another chair
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:41:57 PM EDT] <Evie> That's not too unusual. Learning bladder control at night is the last hurdle to cross for a young child who is toilet training. Thank God for waterproof mattress covers!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:42:02 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi, DFK you are having a bad time of it.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:42:21 PM EDT] <Evie> That seems reasonable, bynw
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:42:23 PM EDT] <judyward> Cats are endlessly expanding, bynw
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:42:51 PM EDT] <bynw> maybe she just wants to be with her daddy though so i will pet her while i can
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:42:55 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Cat probably thinks you are in his chair
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:43:12 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Her chair
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:43:30 PM EDT] <Evie> I am amazed mine aren't all over me right now
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:43:47 PM EDT] <Evie> It's like a minor miracle Luke isn't
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:44:21 PM EDT] <judyward> Our dogs are fed, so right now they are sacked out & leaving me alone.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:44:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys would like to register a complaint with management, to wit, she can see the bottom of her food bowl.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:44:47 PM EDT] <Bee> There was a news story today that said dogs get depressed when their owners spend too much time on their I-phones. Not cats.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:44:54 PM EDT] <judyward> Negligence! Shame on you, DR!

[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:46:55 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Hi DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:46:59 PM EDT] <judyward> Yes, poor baby lost her sister & I know you miss her a lot.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:47:28 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Always hard to say goodbye
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:47:31 PM EDT] <judyward> Can't you just see us all sitting around in a huge circle talking?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:48:21 PM EDT] <Evie> If only we could find those Transfer Portals, we could make that happen
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:48:34 PM EDT] <judyward> Somebody needs to work on that!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:48:44 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Would be really fun
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:48:49 PM EDT] <Evie> Here's Luke now
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:01 PM EDT] <Evie> To interfere, not volunteer to find Portals, sadly
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:24 PM EDT] <Jerusha> I live on the Canadian Shield, so there should be one here somewhere
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:35 PM EDT] <bynw> we could always do a voice or video chat someday
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:44 PM EDT] <Dennis> Missy says, "Meow."
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:45 PM EDT] <Evie> My non-transparent cat is finally stretching out over my wrists so I can see over his head to read the screen
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:50 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Solid bedrock
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:53 PM EDT] <judyward> True, Skype, I guess.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:49:56 PM EDT] <KK> It might be time to start thinking about a worthy successor/new companion.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:50:23 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:50:35 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:51:07 PM EDT] <Shiral> Beloved cats CAN have worthy successors, even if they can't be replaced. And a companion will cheer up a lonely cat
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:51:14 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:02 PM EDT] <judyward> There are lots of kitties needing homes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:15 PM EDT] <KK> And a lonely cat carer.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:32 PM EDT] <judyward> A match made in heaven
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:34 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Can't have a cat. DS3 is allergic
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:42 PM EDT] <Evie> :-(
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:54 PM EDT] <Shiral> I guess you can't find non-allergic offspring at the pound/
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:52:56 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Bummer
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:22 PM EDT] <judyward> Sphinxes are supposed to be non-allergic
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:38 PM EDT] <Evie> Oddly, DD is also allergic, but only mildly. She will get a stuffy nose around cats she isn't already acclimated to, but if anything she seems to be getting less allergic rather than more so.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:43 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dmitri sends a Meow to all the virtual other lap cats joining chat
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:44 PM EDT] <Jerusha> He seems to think being able to breathe is important
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:48 PM EDT] <Derynifank> But they are not warm and fuzzy
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:53:50 PM EDT] <Bee> Aren't sphinxes made of stone?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:22 PM EDT] <judyward> No, you usually have to put clothes on them
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:24 PM EDT] <jemler> can the Sphinx snphiffle?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:33 PM EDT] <Shiral> Sphinxes are rather enigmatic, anyway
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:36 PM EDT] <Evie> We didn't even know she had a cat allergy until she got tested a few months ago to find out what set off her bad reaction that sent her to the ER, but her only severe allergy is to dust mites, which were apparently the culprit in that case.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:44 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That's why they are not warm and fuzzy
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:54:58 PM EDT] <Jerusha> No fur
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:55:03 PM EDT] <KK> Makes one wonder if there really were creatures who looked like the Egyptian stone sphinxes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:55:26 PM EDT] <judyward> Or just really vivid imaginations.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:07 PM EDT] <Evie> We were pretty astonished at finding out she also has that mild cat allergy, given that we have 2 cats and her boyfriend's family has something like 12 or 13, but she goes back and forth between both homes constantly. But she has had a nearly constant stuffy nose she always assumed was due to hay
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:07 PM EDT] <Evie> fever.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:37 PM EDT] <Shiral> Tati has joined the throng
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:47 PM EDT] <Jerusha> That's a lot of cats
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:52 PM EDT] <judyward> Hi, Tati
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:56:58 PM EDT] <Shiral> That's livestock!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:08 PM EDT] <judyward> Storms south & east of here
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:11 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Hi Tatiana
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:16 PM EDT] <Evie> Yes, they're constitutionally incapable of turning away a stray, I think
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:19 PM EDT] <Dennis> 13 cats? Do they have a farm? Cos that's way too many cats for a house.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:34 PM EDT] <judyward> We had 11 cats at one time.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> She's all over me like a cheap suit when it's HER idea, but squirms like crazy if I pick her up
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:57:54 PM EDT] <Evie> They live in a house that has a few acres of woodland around it, and the cats are indoor/outdoor, or at least some are.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:05 PM EDT] <Dennis> I'm trying to picture Missy dealing with 12 other cats add my mind is vapor locking.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:16 PM EDT] <Evie> LOL! Mine too.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:21 PM EDT] <judyward> Ours were in/out cats, too
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:25 PM EDT] <Evie> I can barely deal with two.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:35 PM EDT] <Evie> I occasionally think about having a third, but then sanity returns.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:58:42 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dmitri and Tati have bonded nicely, but even so they have arguments now and then
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:59:05 PM EDT] <Jerusha> We're sticking with grand puppies for now
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:59:08 PM EDT] <Dennis> That makes much more sense. I kinda forget about outdoor cats, cos I live in a city and the Miss is very definitely an indoor cat.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [7:59:32 PM EDT] <Evie> Ours do too. They're like siblings. Friendly one moment, squabbling the next, then doing their own thing most of the time
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:07 PM EDT] <Shiral> They both have favorite sunny spots on the floor by my bedroom sliding door
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:17 PM EDT] <bynw> many decades ago i had probably more than 20 cats, mostly outdoor kitties with rotations inside, all traced through the maternal line, all of them named, very few ever became wild
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:20 PM EDT] <Evie> Ours are indoors only kitties, because we have coyotes who live nearby, not to mention owls, hawks, foxes, and other predators.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:30 PM EDT] <Dennis> Dog sat for my MiL yesterday. Missy was Not Amused.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:32 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Sunny spots are good
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:49 PM EDT] <Shiral> Especially if you're a cat
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:00:49 PM EDT] <Evie> Including a black bear that was spotted around these parts a year or two ago, who may still be out there somewhere.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:01:21 PM EDT] <Bee> Melantha seldom even goes out to the hall, and she scurries back quickly.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:01:39 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys always wants to explore the hall.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:01:44 PM EDT] <judyward> We have coyotes here, too & I worry about our ferals
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:01:46 PM EDT] <Jerusha> We have bears, moose, coyotes
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:02:02 PM EDT] <judyward> Owls, eagles & hawks, too.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:02:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She also wants to make a right nuisance of herself when the maintenance people come to do something.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:02:14 PM EDT] <Evie> When Luke adopted us, he had some healed scars on his head and one paw that the vet said looked like defensive scars from some sort of predator attack. He still has a perfectly round one on his head that I think was made by a fang or a claw.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:02:21 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dmitri is convinced he should be able to roam around his territory like a small tiger
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:02:22 PM EDT] <judyward> She has to monitor them!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:07 PM EDT] <judyward> Sorry to leave but have to run & feed Lou. Have a great week everyone!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:11 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Maybe, but she also wants them to pet her.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Go feed the hubs! Later, judyward!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:20 PM EDT] <Evie> bye, Judy
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:25 PM EDT] <judyward> Bye!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:25 PM EDT] <KK> Nighters, judyward.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:31 PM EDT] <Evie> My DH just got home from an event
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:31 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Bye Judyward
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:36 PM EDT] <Derynifank> You too, judtward. Nite
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:36 PM EDT] <jemler> nite judy
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:44 PM EDT] <KK> Gus has just joined me.

[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:48 PM EDT] <Evie> Hi Gus
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:03:56 PM EDT] <Jerusha> SCA?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:01 PM EDT] <Evie> Yes
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:02 PM EDT] <Shiral> Oops, missed JudyWard
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys has been irked in my direction for the last week or so.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:16 PM EDT] <Dennis> Hi, Gus.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:17 PM EDT] <KK> It's been cool today, never over about 74. Fall is definitely here.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've been using the small (bread) plates as spoon rests to make myself hot tea (rather than using those plates to give her wet food).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:45 PM EDT] <Bee> cool mostly this week
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:46 PM EDT] <Jerusha> We have a frost warning tonight
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:04:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And then, the horror, I've been eating a lot of chicken soup and not sharing THAT, either.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:05:12 PM EDT] <Evie> It's been fairly cool here, which is good since my car has been leaking coolant recently, so that is helping make it a little less quick to try to overheat between fillings.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:05:40 PM EDT] <Evie> You're such a meanie, DR!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I am.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:22 PM EDT] <Bee> caan't find the sssource of the leak, evie?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:24 PM EDT] <Derynifank> We got a cool weekend but then warming up again
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:30 PM EDT] <Evie> Not so far, Bee
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> But the chicken soup has garlic and onion in it, and those are bad for kitties.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:06:54 PM EDT] <KK> DR, how's your pneumonia? Abating, I hope?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:07:32 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes. I'm still coughing a bit, and I'm definitely not firing on all cylinders in terms of energy level, but I imagine those two bits will be with me a while longer.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:07:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> Good, DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:07:49 PM EDT] Quit Derynifank (Derynifank@OWIRCN-dc339139.hr.cox.net) has left this server (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:02 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Hope you recover soon, DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm at least not running a fever any more. Last Saturday, I was up to 104, which is moderately ridiculous anyway, but given that I have a slightly low normal (97.4), it was just about scary high.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:26 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Sack
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:27 PM EDT] <Evie> DH is fixing himself a plate, so of course Luke has run into the kitchen to inform him that he's starving. LOL!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:36 PM EDT] <Bee> I trust the medicines are helping. Dr
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:37 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL at whiny Luke. :)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:08:38 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:00 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The prednisone calmed the inflammation enough to give the antibiotic time to start doing its job.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:08 PM EDT] <Jerusha> I meant sack. Rented fingers with no return policy
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:21 PM EDT] <Evie> Not Sack, but sack? :-D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And I finished the prednisone yesterday, for which I am profoundly grateful because prednisone does some weird things to me sometimes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:34 PM EDT] <Jerusha> I give up
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:37 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It didn't do anything too weird this time, thank goodness.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm assuming Jerusha meant "ack!"
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:09:56 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Yep
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:05 PM EDT] <Evie> Or maybe Darcy is hinting he wants more time in the sack
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:11 PM EDT] <KK> Glad to hear you're improving, DR. Everyone, please get your flu shot if you haven't already. We don't want to lose any of you permanently. I got mine on Monday. (I'd forgotten that the injection site can be itchy for a few days afterward.)y for
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I got mine almost two weeks ago.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:35 PM EDT] <Evie> One of the perks of my job is that we get free flu shots
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:41 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Darcy agrees
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:45 PM EDT] <Shiral> I've never had a flu shot
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:10:57 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Me either
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, and anyone who's far enough to the south and east of the US, Publix is giving away a $10 store gift card if you get your flu shot at the pharmacy in the store.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:17 PM EDT] <Dennis> Need to get mine this week.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:22 PM EDT] <Evie> Having had a really nasty case of the flu a few years ago, I usually take our office up on the offer
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:30 PM EDT] <KK> They do work, you guys. I get them every year, and I've always evaded the flu.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:40 PM EDT] <Bee> My pharmacy gives free shots + a discount coupon for anything in the store. At least they did last year.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:42 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The two times in my life I've had it, it has laid me out as if I'd been hit by a speeding freight train.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:11:48 PM EDT] <jemler> i get my flu shot at the dialysis clinic.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:12:04 PM EDT] <KK> I'd heard that CVS does that, Bee.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:12:11 PM EDT] <Bee> Yes.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:12:21 PM EDT] <Evie> I have had the flu even after getting the flu shot once year, but it was a fairly mild case, and also I think not one of the strains contained in the vaccine that came out that year.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:12:57 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, usually even if you get the flu after getting the shot, it isn't as bad as it would have been without.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:13:01 PM EDT] <KK> Mother and I got ours at her regular doctor visit; strong ones recommended for seniors had just come in. The nors was so good, neither of us felt a thing.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:13:29 PM EDT] <Bee> The flu ssshot is not 100% fefective. It depends on how well they guess which strains will prevail in a given year.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:13:32 PM EDT] <DesertRose> My allergist's office (when I was a wee DesertRosebud) had a nurse who could do the allergy shots so that I didn't feel it. She was GOOD.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:13:33 PM EDT] <Evie> The time I had the really bad case, all I really remember about it was having to miss work for a week (though at least at the time I still had paid sick leave), and sleeping through most of my Jane Austen DVDs
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:14:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I don't remember much about either of my bouts with the flu, but since I was five the first time, I guess that's reasonable.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:14:39 PM EDT] <KK> THey're hoping for a better match of the strains this year. Last year apparently was not so great. But it's always a giant guessing game. Sometimes their guesses are better than others. But they always help at least a little, even if you get the flu.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:14:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The second time, I was nineteen, and I remember nothing of about two weeks that winter except my mother waking me up, helping me change from pajamas to street clothes, and half-carrying me to the car, and then I remember her waking me up again to go into the doctor's office.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:14:56 PM EDT] <Evie> Given that I don't get paid sick leave anymore, I really can't afford to get the flu now.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:22 PM EDT] <Bee> Speaking of Jane Austen, my church is doing a program next Sunday of the music Miss Austen would have sung or played
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:29 PM EDT] <Evie> Cool!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:37 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Neat
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I don't even remember going home from the doctor's office. And given that I'm two inches taller and significantly heavier of build than my mother, it was a neat trick for her to carry me.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:56 PM EDT] <Bee> So I may be very late for early chat next week.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:15:59 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, that reminds me, Amazon has the complete collection of Austen's writing for free for Kindle!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:16:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Or they did a day or so ago.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:16:21 PM EDT] <Evie> ooh! I'll have to look
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:16:57 PM EDT] <DesertRose> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HGHVPRS/ref=pe_385040_117923520_TE_M1DP
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:17:07 PM EDT] <KK> Me, too--though I've temporarily misplaced my tablet.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:17:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh shucks. It's saying $0.99 now, which still isn't bad.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:18:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Ooh, and the collected works of Oscar Wilde. Such a snark-master!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:19:01 PM EDT] <Bee> I have my first android phone. I promptly lost the setup directions. I haven't had a single call.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:19:51 PM EDT] <Evie> I have the Kindle app on my phone, so I use that to read if I haven't got my Kindle with me. Or on my laptop or desktop PC, I just read my Kindle books straight from the Amazon website.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:20:05 PM EDT] <Bee> I remember my brother reading Jane Austen out loud to our mom.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:20:30 PM EDT] <Evie> Have you had a friend try to call you, Bee, just to make sure it is working right?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:20:35 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Love my kindle
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:21:00 PM EDT] <Shiral> Love my iPad and phone
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:21:12 PM EDT] <KK> brb
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:21:26 PM EDT] <Bee> I've thought of that, but I'm kind of glad to miss all the spam calls.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:21:52 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I tend to let any number I don't recognize go to voice mail.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:22:06 PM EDT] <Evie> Well, yes, but you need to be able to get calls from people you actually know or make calls out, and you can always download a spam call blocker app
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:22:17 PM EDT] <Bee> good for you, DR
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:22:42 PM EDT] <Evie> Actually, I just use my phone's built in call blocker list for numbers that turn out to be spam callers, so they can't call back
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:23:05 PM EDT] <DesertRose> If it's someone who has an actual reason to call me, they'll leave a message, and it avoids the spammers and scammers. They can either hang up on my voice mail or leave a nonsense message, but it's no skin off my nose.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:23:27 PM EDT] <Bee> I'm not sure my old flip phone even had voice mail. It did have text. and a "reject" button
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:23:29 PM EDT] <Evie> And like DR, if I don't recognize a number, it goes to VM, and if it turns out to be a legit call, I'll add that number to my contacts list.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:23:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Should I Answer? is a good call-blocker app. It crowd-sources ratings of phone numbers so that you can see if enough people have said one way or another about a given number.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:24:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> If someone calls with your same exchange but it's not someone you know, it's probably a spam/scam call.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:25:16 PM EDT] <Bee> I lost my addressbook because my old phone got wet and drowned. :(
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:25:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Like, say my phone number is 904-333-1234, and I get a call from 904-333-5678, but that's not anyone I know (sometimes if people are on the same family plan, they may have similar numbers, though); it's probably someone spoofing the number, hoping someone will pick it up because the exchange is the same.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:26:17 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Spoofing the number for spam/scam reasons.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:26:31 PM EDT] <KK> Back. Had to whift clothes from washer to dryer.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:26:33 PM EDT] <Bee> That's good to know.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:26:38 PM EDT] <KK> shift clothes
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:26:55 PM EDT] <Bee> about ssssspoofing, not about KK's laundry
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:27:04 PM EDT] Quit Dennis (Dennis@OWIRCN-78a24613.ma.comcast.net) has left this server (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:27:07 PM EDT] <KK> Bee, can it be recovered?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:27:12 PM EDT] <Jerusha> Shift kind of works too
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:28:13 PM EDT] <Bee> no. I wwwish I'd kept the phone, because I could make and receive calls, wven if I ccouldn't see who was calling.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:05 PM EDT] <Jerusha> I should toddle off. Nighters everyone
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> G'night, Jerusha!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:13 PM EDT] <Evie> goodnight, Jerusha!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:20 PM EDT] <Bee> nighterss, Jerusha.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:38 PM EDT] Quit Jerusha (~d169ce6e@OWIRCN-1bdd9d77.org) has left this server (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF)).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:40 PM EDT] <Shiral> Night, Jerusha
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:29:46 PM EDT] <KK> Did you get it from a phone store? (The new phone.) You can take it in to them and ask questions, how to do various things. NOthing comes with an instruction manual anymore. It's all online. What did you get? (I refer to this transition period as "taming the phone."
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:30:05 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dang, missed again
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:30:08 PM EDT] <KK> Wow, she moved fast.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:30:35 PM EDT] <Evie> There is also usually a help menu in the different areas of the phone, if you know where to find it
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:31:35 PM EDT] <Bee> Yes I did. The guy even set it up, or so I thought. Maybe \\\\\\\i can get aanothe rcopy of the directions. One problem is, I'm too sslow, so it turns off every few seconds.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:19 PM EDT] <Bee> I' not even sure how to answer it. I found ssome missed caalls from strange numbers.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:35 PM EDT] <Evie> You can probably go into settings to adjust how long the screen stays on when inactive
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:35 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, I'd take it back to the phone store and get a little more help.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:37 PM EDT] Join MerchantDeryni (MerchantDer@OWIRCN-066e27f1.dsl.bell.ca) has joined this channel.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:45 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> Good evening one and all
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:51 PM EDT] <Bee> My rented fingers are broken.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:32:57 PM EDT] <Bee> Hi, MD
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:33:22 PM EDT] <Evie> It will make your battery life shorter to have the screen on for longer periods of time, but if you need that time, it could be worth resetting that interval
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:33:28 PM EDT] <Evie> Hi MD
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:33:45 PM EDT] <KK> I usually make several visits per week for the first month or two, especially without instruction manuals anymore. I got a Galaxy S8. What did you get?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:33:52 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> Hi. Thank you for the comments on my story Evie.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:33:54 PM EDT] <KK> That's a Samsung.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi MerchantDeryni
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:14 PM EDT] <Evie> You're welcome
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:25 PM EDT] <KK> Got the most recent one at the end of June, still bugging them occasionally.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:26 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hi MD
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:51 PM EDT] <Bee> AT&T android
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:34:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> BTW, MerchantDeryni, if you come into the chat room, say "Hi" or something, because a lot of the time, if I'm logged in, I may not be paying attention, but if someone says something, the window will blink and I'll know to come hang out.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:35:13 PM EDT] <Bee> aalcatel
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:36:54 PM EDT] <Evie> KK, do you have a favorite historical period re: costuming? (I ask because I am considering going with an earlier period SCA persona, since I don't know where my brain was when I picked Elizabethan, because I sure don't want to sew it!)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:37:31 PM EDT] <Evie> I have looked at 12th Century and am currently taking a look at 14th
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:37:50 PM EDT] <Bee> Norman is morecomfortable. I've read.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:38:52 PM EDT] <KK> Sort of generic renaissance. Think "unicorn tapestries." I've also done Scottish, since I have a Scottish persona. THough we were never big on personas in Caid in the old days. Today, I suspect that things are different.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:39:37 PM EDT] <Evie> The earlier period styles are more loosely fitted, which is both good and bad. I like that I don't need a lot of help with fitting them, but my current set that fits me tends to hang like a small tent, so it could use some alterations.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:40:02 PM EDT] <Evie> I want comfort, but I don't want to look like I've been dressed by Omar the Tentmaker!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:40:13 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I like 14th, Evie.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:40:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Elizabethan is great....if you have an extensive tailoring staff
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:40:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And you get to wear the "gates of hell" surcoat. :D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:40:58 PM EDT] <Evie> (Probably doesn't help that I've lost 15 or more pounds since I made it, and I made it a bit too big by accident to begin with!)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:41:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Better that that making it too small
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:41:23 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have a set of instructions for making a 14th C style gown fitted specifically to you; making the pattern is a bit of a bother, but then you have the pattern to make as many copies of the dress as you like, and sideless surcoats aren't that difficult either (and are technically optional).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:41:54 PM EDT] <Evie> Not really that different, KK. Some people pick a period and really stick with it, but most people here dress for whatever is climate appropriate for the season.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:42:07 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Un5ipTjDms 12th century dressing
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:42:16 PM EDT] <Evie> So last time I went to an event, it was July and I wore a chiton.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:42:27 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibj7GsfsCpI 14th century dressing.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:43:33 PM EDT] <Evie> LOL, I watched the 12th C. one just last night, MD
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:43:52 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, and the pattern is a single panel of which you make four (two front, two back). It's really easy to make the dress once you've got the pattern.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:44:43 PM EDT] <Evie> And the 14th C. one
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:46:13 PM EDT] <Evie> I might go with something not too tailored for now, since I am still trying to get down to my target weight, so something that isn't meant to fit like a glove would be better.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:46:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Half of Trimaris goes Greco-Roman in the summer.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:46:27 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> I have been using youtube a lot to get basic information on trade, spices and travel. So these items have popped up on my research. I am all about the silk cloth enhancements to an outfit.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:47:12 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yeah, the dress pattern I have is pretty fitted; it's actually designed so that you don't need a bra under it, so it's snug around the bust on purpose.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:47:42 PM EDT] <Evie> In the bag of paints and other artist supplies I got from a retired art teacher last weekend, there is a block of something meant to be carved to one's preferred design for block printing fabric, so I might try my hand at that
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:47:45 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Let me know if you ever want the instructions, Evie; I copied them from a now-defunct website and I have them saved as a document in my Google Drive.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:48:09 PM EDT] <Evie> Sure, sounds good, DR! Thanks!
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:49:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The actual instructions indicate that it would be fitted to the hips, but since I am not a skinny Minnie, I cut mine so that it's fitted at the bust and just under and then flares from a little north of my navel (which makes me look pregnant but heck with it; that was fashionable in the 1360's :P ).
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:49:19 PM EDT] <Evie> I loved that website link with the spice info, MD
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:49:29 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> KK: odd question for you. In your books you have Judaism as one of the religions. In the Deryni game book it says Jew came from Forcinn or Rkassi. Does your world have a version of Israel/Palestine or the Middle East, or is the Forcinn states and Rkassi the base area?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:49:51 PM EDT] <Bee> When I was a kid, you could make a block print from half a potato.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:50:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And the lady who wrote the instructions specifically said that you can flare the dress from a little below the bust if you have, I think she phrased it as, "an earth-mother figure."
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:50:05 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> Thanks Evie: I like to use some base numbers to give a little bit of reality behind the stories. That way I have something to compare it to.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:50:54 PM EDT] <Evie> You can still do that, Bee, but I suspect the design won't stay as crisp if you are trying to stamp an overall pattern on several yards of fabric.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:51:09 PM EDT] <DesertRose> To say nothing of potato starch all over your fabric. :)
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:51:37 PM EDT] <Bee> true. Potato prints ssound like kid stuff, not haute couture.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:52:06 PM EDT] <Evie> In one of the sketched maps at the back of the Codex, there is an Israel/Samaria EQUIVALENT
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:52:16 PM EDT] <Evie> Sorry for the caps lock....Luke happened
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:52:26 PM EDT] <Bee> You were probbly supposed to do it on paper.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:52:31 PM EDT] <Evie> I think in the Codex it's called Samisrael
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:52:42 PM EDT] <KK> MD, I suspect that there is a HOly Land somewhere far to the east and south, but I've never had a need to define it more specifically.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:53:08 PM EDT] <Evie> But my copy of the Codex isn't right at hand, so I can't verify that
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:53:40 PM EDT] <Evie> KK, who did the maps at the back of the Codex? Was that you? Rob? Someone else?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:53:45 PM EDT] <Bee> Re Jews, you wrote "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:54:09 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> Aargh. I do not have a copy of the Codex. Off to the bookstore.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:55:23 PM EDT] <Bee> KK, You said something like, if being Jewish was relevant to story, Jews would be there.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:55:27 PM EDT] <KK> I think Rob did those, based on my maps.
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:55:45 PM EDT] <Evie> Might want to get the second edition unless you have a fortune to spend on one. And the second edition has more info anyway. :-D
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:55:51 PM EDT] <Shiral> Samisrael is right
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:56:22 PM EDT] <KK> I have a spare first edition that I'd be willing to sell. What's a fair price these days?
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:56:49 PM EDT] <Shiral> Depends on whether it's the paperback or limited edition
[Sunday, September 30, 2018] [8:56:53 PM EDT] <MerchantDeryni> I just realized my friend has your complete catalog. I may have to go and visit him and browse/beg/borrow/steal
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
