KK Chat - Aug. 12, 2001, pt. 2

[17:05] <emily> I'm too much of a sissy,
[17:05] <scribbler> I'd hate to clean the fish....
[17:05] <emily> I don't like catching stuff
[17:05] <Shiral> Definitely, but if I can't fish with a pole, I sure couldn't do it with a bow and arrow.
[17:05] <KK> Worms make you squeamish, Emily?
[17:05] <Jessie> there is a solution to cleaning fish ;-)
[17:05] <AnnDupuis> When I was doing research into medieval mining, I found all *sorts* of interesting people/places/events/factoids (especially involving politics of land ownership whenever a rich deposit was found) to
draw story-telling inspiration from.
[17:05] <scribbler> yeah, don't catch them....
[17:05] <Shiral> I had a hard enough time hitting hay bales with a bow and arrow!
[17:05] <KK> I expect we'd all have some adjusting to do, if we had to dress out everything we ate.
[17:05] <emily> Oh no, I garden, bugs generally don't bother me,
[17:05] <Sedina> My dad always used to take my sisters and I ice fishing. Never did really understand the "fun" of sitting out on the lake - in the cold - waiting for the fish to bite
[17:05] <emily> I just don't like catching things, and having to gut them etc.
[17:06] <AnnDupuis> I only like fishing if you throw the fish back. I stopped fishing as soon as I realized the fish *dies.* :-/
[17:06] <Shiral> It's a guy thing, Sedina
[17:06] <KK> I think they do it for the buddy-thing and the beer.
[17:06] <scribbler> the only fish I want to catch are frozen....
[17:06] <Sedina> Yeah, I came to realize that long ago.  But Dad really did want to "share" the experience with us.  *l*  gotta give him that much
[17:06] <Shiral> My brother the Vegetarian from about age nine, is surprisingly interested in fishing. I think he just likes tying flies
[17:07] <the_Bee> I fished one summer as a child.  We ate what we caught.
[17:07] <emily> But I am a true ominvore, so,...
[17:07] <AnnDupuis> On the other hand, I had no trouble dealing with the chickens that were destined for the table at the dairy farm I was living on one summer as a teen. That despite being a vegetarian at the time. After 2 weeks of taking care of the chickens, I was quite happy to slaughter, draw, and dress them....
[17:07] <Jessie> nope -- fishing is a true learning experience (never any beer when we went fishing)
[17:07] <KK> Interesting, how we can distance ourselves from the killing that's necessary in order for us to have out steaks and lamb shops and chicken.
[17:07] <Sedina> LOL Ann..
[17:07] <scribbler> I like some fish, but not a lot...my husband and in-laws have been trying to convert me....
[17:07] <KK> Never been tempted to be a vegetarian, though.
[17:07] <Shiral> Chickens are not a brain trusts
[17:07] <AnnDupuis> I'd have to be *really* hungry to do the same thing to a large mammal, though.
[17:07] <emily> oh no (g) LOL
[17:07] <Shiral> Not me, I was a carnivore from the cradle!
[17:07] * Bynw is definately a meat eater :-)
[17:08] * Sedina has been a true vegetarian after finishing chemo. Doesn't actually miss the meat
[17:08] <whytcrow> I admit to a proclivity to meat as well -- although I do don't seafood or fish at all
[17:08] <KK> Yeah, the idea of actually killing anything furry is a bummer.
[17:08] <scribbler> My best friend's family used to raise rabbits for food -- I'd watch when her dad would go out in the backyard and pick one out, then dispatch it with a single karate chop to the back of the neck....
[17:08] <lbarms> I have a pic of me skinning a rabbit during survival training
[17:08] <Shiral> I think it's partly my teen rebellion thing.  My Dad went through a period of being a VERY smug vegetarian
[17:09] <Shiral> Eating dinner at his place has been adventurous now and then.
[17:09] <Sedina> Although Miss Myah doesn't like fish, I think it's all the talk of food that drew her out of her slumber.  Regardless, she wishes to send you all purrs and kitty kisses
[17:09] <whytcrow> pet the kitty for me
[17:09] <scribbler> Hiyah Ms. Myah!
[17:09] <KK> Oh, I skinned a cat for comparative anatomy--but it had been in formaldehyde for a long time, and didn't look at all like a live one.  I also carefully picked one that did NOT look like any of mine.
[17:10] <Shiral> Wise, KK
[17:10] * the_Bee stritches Miss Myah under the chin
[17:10] <AnnDupuis> I often try to go back to being vegetarian, but always succumb to the smell of steak cooking.... Now I'm home cooking for my dog (who's quite ill -- kidney disease and anemia, we're still trying to track down the cause of the anemia) so I'm always cooking some sort of meat. May as well cook enough for my husband and myself as long as I'm cooking for the dog. :-)
[17:10] <Sedina> I'll do that.  She's decided that I NEED to make more room on my lap for her.  *G*
[17:10] <Shiral> I'm definitely not into dissection as a form of entertainment
[17:10] <scribbler> When I was in high school, we dissected fetal pigs
[17:10] <whytcrow> i'm too squeamish for dissection, entertainment or not
[17:11] <whytcrow> yeah, we did fetal pigs too...ugh
[17:11] <Shiral> Been there, did that, All I could stand to do was hold the pigs legs open and look away
[17:11] <scribbler> must be a science thing....
[17:11] <AnnDupuis> I was the only female in my class who touched the fetal pig's brain.... Hey, it was already dead, what did it care?
[17:11] <KK> If I'd stayed in med school, we would've had to do physio experiments on live cats.  I don't think I could've done it.  Dogs were bad enough.
[17:11] <Sedina> KK - I, unfortunately, did have a kitty that looked like one that I once had.  Good thing that I'm fairly good at distancing myself from what I was doing.
[17:11] <the_Bee> i switched from biology to geology.  I don't mind dissecting rocks.
[17:11] <Shiral> Let me rephrase what I said before -- I'm not into dissection period
[17:11] *** Kelric has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:11] <Shiral> Hi Kelric
[17:11] <scribbler> Hi Kelric!!!!
[17:11] <Jessie> hello Kelric
[17:11] <Kelric> howdy all
[17:11] <whytcrow> that would have gotten me, KK, if nothing else did
[17:12] <Wrengl>  Hi Kelric
[17:12] <Bynw> I dont blame ya on that Katherine... I dont think I could do anything like that to a cat...
[17:12] <raushana> Hi Kelric
[17:12] <Sedina> HI Kelric
[17:12] <KK> Hi, Kelric.
[17:12] <whytcrow> Ann-- it is the fact that it is dead that bothers me. ;)
[17:12] <AnnDupuis> That was one of the reasons I didn't get into vet med.
[17:12] <scribbler> that would be enough to make me change my major FAST!!!!
[17:12] <Shiral> Me too, SCribbler
[17:12] <emily> I dropped out of psych because they had experiments on animals. I just didn't want to do that
[17:12] * scribbler will stick with tech writing, thank you very much.....
[17:12] <AnnDupuis> Jen -- Meat's dead, too --  what does it matter if it's still got its skin and bones and snout etc.? cooked or not?
[17:12] <Kelric> what have I missed so I can understand the conversation?
[17:13] <emily> I became a speech pathologist instead
[17:13] <Shiral> We're deep into science today, Kelric
[17:13] <Shiral> <G>
[17:13] *** auntiedi has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:13] <whytcrow> Ann -- I know it doesn't make sense, but I'm fine with my hypocrisy
[17:13] <Shiral> We were talking about fishing
[17:13] <AnnDupuis> Um, we went from whether fishing poles were used in Gwynedd or not to dissection of animals in high school classrooms. :-)
[17:13] <Shiral> HI AUNTIE!!
[17:13] <Shiral> We've missed you!
[17:13] <scribbler> Hi auntiedi!!!!
[17:13] <auntiedi> hi y'all.
[17:13] <KK> Hi, Auntiedi.
[17:13] <Sedina> Hi auntiedi
[17:13] <auntiedi> thank you. i've missed you too.
[17:13] <emily> Hi diane
[17:13] <emily> How are you?
[17:13] <Jessie> hello auntie di -- gooood to see you
[17:13] <auntiedi> i'm good, and you?
[17:14] <Shiral> I wouldn't want to be around at the end of a deer hunt, myself
[17:14] <auntiedi> bee, i am sooo sorry, i have not yet made it to the post office.
[17:14] <scribbler> KK -- how's Jasta? Haven't seen her in a while....
[17:14] <the_Bee> Better than dissecting a _live_ animal, Ann
[17:14] <Shiral> Jasta's on vacation this week scribbler
[17:14] <Jessie> Jasta's at Pennsic isn't she?
[17:14] <KK> Don't know.  Haven't heard from her for a week or so.
[17:14] <Shiral> She's at the Pennsic war
[17:14] <emily> Very good, last week, just after the chat, Chris decided to fool around on a chair, and fell from it before we could catch him
[17:14] <KK> Ah.
[17:14] <Bynw> Hiyas auntiedi
[17:14] <scribbler> Ah -- good, I can stop worrying....
[17:14] <AnnDupuis> Jen: My hypocrisy is one step further removed -- I don't mind looking at or touching something that's dead (or eating it), but no way would I actually kill it. (Well, I probably could if I were honestly starving.... No reason to in my current life situation.)
[17:14] <Shiral> Hopefully she'll be back this coming week
[17:14] <emily> He put a tooth through his lip, to the tune of 6 stiches
[17:14] *** Sedina2 has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:14] <Shiral> We all have limits, Ann
[17:14] <emily> stitches
[17:14] <auntiedi> yikes emily, how is he now?
[17:15] *** Sedina Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[17:15] <Sedina2> Hmm...looks like my favorite peer got me
[17:15] <Shiral>  HI again Sedina = -- oops
[17:15] *** Sedina2 is now known as Sedina
[17:15] <the_Bee> howdy auntie
[17:15] <whytcrow> ann -- I wouldn't be able to kill stuff either, not to mention the fact I wouldn't know what to do with it afterwards
[17:15] <Shiral> Ouch, EMily
[17:15] <scribbler> WB Sedina (or whoever you are)!!!!
[17:15] <auntiedi> howdy bee. 30 lashes with a wet noodle for me. sooo sorry
[17:15] <Sedina> Oh well, Miss Myah took advantage of my boot to point out to me that she would like a little milk to drink.  Thank you.  *g*
[17:16] <emily> He's fine, the stitches dissolved out by Thursday
[17:16] <auntiedi> that's good.
[17:16] <emily> He was running around like a Kelric the next day
[17:16] <Shiral> He's trying to take after Kelric, Emily <G>
[17:16] <Shiral> Oh my, similar thoughts =o)
[17:16] <the_Bee> I'm bad when I can get away with it
[17:17] <emily> It was pretty traumatic though, during the actual stitches, when they had to restain him in a jacket/blanket
[17:17] <Shiral> I'm bad even when i can't sometimes. =o)
[17:17] <auntiedi> bynw, you have aol, right?
[17:17] <scribbler> at least when his Impness gets hurt, his dad can fix it with more than just a "kiss and make better"....
[17:17] <Shiral> Ouch, yes
[17:17] <Jessie> Katherine:  any writing ideas for next week -- new chapters -- or new twists and turns?
[17:17] <emily> KK< I really could have used a healer
[17:17] <Shiral> Will Donal do anything new and interesting next week? <G>
[17:17] <KK> Wish I could've sent  you one.
[17:18] <scribbler> I could use a Healer too -- I have minor surgery scheduled for month-end....
[17:18] <Shiral> Rhys, he's never around when you need him!
[17:18] <auntiedi> so sorry to hear that scribbler.
[17:18] <Shiral> Eek, for what, Scribbler?
[17:18] <KK> I'm still working on transitions in the early chapters--but hope to jump over some years this week and get on to the year just before Alyce marries Kenneth.
[17:18] <scribbler> Any new beds for Donal to hop into/out of?
[17:18] * Sedina sends lots of healing thoughts and energies Scribbler's way
[17:18] <Jessie> great Katherine
[17:18] <emily> My husband always says he wishes Star Trek really existed so he could put force fields up around things to prevent Chris from getting hurt
[17:18] <Shiral> Wunderbar!
[17:19] * KK sends a couple of angels to watch over Scribbler.
[17:19] <Kelric> well.  my break is being interrupted :-<
[17:19] <Kelos_al-Hazar> There is no such thing as "minor" surgery...in my book.
[17:19] *** Kelric Quit (QUIT: User exited)
[17:19] <auntiedi> bynw ,you have aol, right?  i'm having a problem.
[17:19] <scribbler> thx for the good thoughts -- I may miss the chat 8/26, depending if I can sit up to chat.....
[17:19] <Bynw> yeah I do
[17:19] <emily> Katherine, that's wonderful!
[17:19] <KK> No, Donal's had the fear of God put into him, at least for now--I think. Emily, is your husband a doctor?
[17:20] <emily> Scribble, hope everything goes well !
[17:20] <Shiral> That must have been an impressive event. <G>
[17:20] <scribbler> good thing there were no STD's in Donal's day....
[17:20] <Shiral> That we know of
[17:20] * Sedina is curious about what it would take to put the fear of God into Donal
[17:20] <emily> No, Katherine, he is a true computer geek
[17:20] <Shiral> God?
[17:20] <Jessie> good luck scribbler
[17:20] <auntiedi> on my other computer, when it tries to connect to aol, the connection will go thru, and you know how it kinda blanks just before it puts up the icons and stuff, well, it freezes there. any idea what i can do?
[17:20] * Sedina smacks Shiral with a monkfish
[17:20] <KK> Ah.
[17:21] <Shiral> Okay, I guess I deserved that, Sedina
[17:21] <KK> Oooh, Sedina.  Not an uglyfish!
[17:21] <scribbler> Maybe whoever was the Archbishop of Valoret -- they tended to be a pretty tough bunch....
[17:21] <Shiral>  <G>
[17:21] <Bynw>  auntiedi, what is your screen name? I will IM you
[17:21] <auntiedi> pohns
[17:21] <Sedina> LOL  Hey, Shiral's the one who was fascinated with them earlier.  *g*
[17:21] <Shiral> True
[17:21] * auntiedi hands shiral a wet towel with soap to wipe off the monkfish
[17:22] <Shiral> No wonder they chose the celibate life if they're that ugly
[17:22] <Shiral> Thanks Auntie

[17:22] <emily> Katherine, do you mean the duel archane with Jessame (I know I have the name wrong)"s husband?
[17:22] <Jessie> hello Bart
[17:22] <Shiral> Hi Bart
[17:22] <lbarms> hey bart
[17:22] <Jessie> good to see you
[17:22] <KK> Look 'em up, and you'll see what I mean.
[17:22] <scribbler> Hi Rambart20!!!!
[17:22] <Sedina> Hi Bart!
[17:22] <KK> Hi, Bart!
[17:22] <auntiedi> hi bart
[17:22] <Rambart20> howdy all
[17:22] <Rambart20> howdy KK
[17:22] <emily> Did the duel put the fear of God into Donal? Or the CC's reaction?
[17:22] <Bynw> Hiyas Bart!
[17:23] <Rambart20> i see the usual suspects are here
[17:23] <Rambart20> howdy chris
[17:23] <KK> It isn't a duel arcane; it's a good old fashioned attack and mindrip.
[17:23] <auntiedi> ouch
[17:23] * scribbler cringes....
[17:23] <Sedina> Mindrip?  *grimaces*
[17:23] <Shiral> Owie...
[17:23] <Bynw> mind rip! my favorite thing :-)
[17:23] <emily> ACK talk about "good guys" who do BAAAAD things!
[17:23] <KK> Donal doesn't know anything about the CC.  But he <is> distressed about killing his friend.
[17:23] <Rambart20> ewww! juicy stuff
[17:23] * whytcrow looks at bynw funny
[17:23] * Bynw thinks about ripping DeryniBot's mind for fun
[17:23] <Shiral> I'm glad to know that Donal has a conscience
[17:24] <lbarms> Bad Bynw
[17:24] * Sedina shudders as she discovers a picture of what monkfish do actually look like
[17:24] <whytcrow> poor derynibot
[17:24] <Shiral> Does Tika know what she's getting into? <G>
[17:24] <KK> Poor Derynibot.  Do it to Peer!
[17:24] <Bynw> LOL
[17:24] <emily> I don't know, about having a much of a conscience, he did just sleep with his friend's wife
[17:24] <whytcrow> yeah -- peer makes a great target!
[17:24] <KK> LOL, Sedina.
[17:24] <lbarms> yeah, peer deserves it
[17:24] <Sedina> You weren't joking, KK...  UGLY landed all over that fish!
[17:24] <scribbler> We've only seen three mindrips so far, right?
[17:24] <the_Bee> How's precious, Bart?
[17:25] <Shiral> And they've all been nasty events
[17:25] <KK> Amazing that they can taste so good.
[17:25] <Rambart20> hmm that sounds like an interesting idea , mindripping
[17:25] <Rambart20> she is sleeping
[17:25] * Sedina will remember to reserve the monkfish for Peer
[17:25] <Rambart20> I just woke up from a sunday nap
[17:25] <whytcrow> i try to tempt my rpg players into mindripping npcs, but they've resisted so far
[17:25] <Rambart20> had to work last night
[17:25] <scribbler> that sounds nice, Bart....
[17:25] <KK> Probably better even than a frozen tigershark.
[17:25] <Shiral> Has Nigel been born yet, KK?
[17:25] <Rambart20>  and open this morning
[17:25] <scribbler> the nap, not the work....
[17:25] <Jessie> are you without young relatives now bart?
[17:25] <KK> No Nigel yet.
[17:26] <Michael> A mind-wedgie would be lots of fun!
[17:26] <Rambart20> yes! thank god
[17:26] <emily> Katherine, why does Donal mind rip his friend, to prevent the truth from being found out?
[17:26] <Shiral> Jasta will be disappointed. <G>
[17:26] <raushana> Was it necessary for Donal to mindrip his friend?
[17:26] <scribbler> maybe KK's waiting till Jasta comes back from vacation....
[17:26] <Shiral> Well not for the one getting the wedgie, Michael
[17:26] <Michael> LOL
[17:26] <Shiral> This could well be, Scribbler
[17:26] <Jessie> possibly to protect the identity of the child raushana
[17:27] <KK> Sief tries to attack Donal, when he finds out that his "son" is actually Donal's--and Donal instinctively reacts--and over-reacts, I guess. In any case, he couldn't let Sief live, after that--not that I think he planned it that way.
[17:27] <Shiral> It would be a hard moment for them both
[17:27] <whytcrow> i think it goes worse for Sief though
[17:27] <emily> Where is Sief's wife during all of this?
[17:28] <KK> I think that Donal also doesn't know his own strength--and Sief definitely wasn't expecting Donal.
[17:28] <scribbler> sounds like self-defense, though he caused the problem in the first place....
[17:28] <Sedina> I can definitely understand why Donal might be a bit more careful after that.
[17:28] <emily> It's like we are talking about real people (BG)
[17:28] <Michael> KK, are we gonna see any humor in Childe Morgan?
[17:28] <emily> You've done it again, Katherine
[17:28] <Bynw> auntiedi??
[17:28] <auntiedi> yes bynw?
[17:28] <Rambart20> snicker
[17:28] <KK> Yes, humor.
[17:28] <Shiral> Oh good
[17:28] <Shiral> <G>
[17:28] <KK> Especially once we're following the kids.
[17:28] <scribbler> after the mindrip, we'll need it....
[17:29] <Shiral> I'll bet Duncan was a cute little kid...
[17:29] <emily> Sort of like Shakespeare :-)
[17:29] <auntiedi> btw, how does one pronounce bynw?
[17:29] <Rambart20> I'll bet him and alraic were terrors as children
[17:29] <Shiral> Krispin doesn't get many laughs in HIS life either, oor kid
[17:29] <Bynw> auntiedi, what's your AOL screen name... I will send you an IM
[17:29] <Michael> KK, are we gonna see any humor in the Childe Morgan series?
[17:29] <auntiedi> my screen name is pohns.
[17:29] <Bynw> bynw is pronounced bin new
[17:29] <scribbler> there wasn't too much humor in the "Heirs of
[17:29] <emily> I think I have a good idea of what Morgan was like, (BG)
[17:30] <auntiedi> you must have missed the post where i said it.
[17:30] <scribbler> Camber" series as I recall....
[17:30] <auntiedi> thanks for the pronunciation.
[17:30] * scribbler slaps her right pinky for jumping too far....
[17:30] <Shiral> No, too many people getting killed in the Heirs series
[17:30] <Michael> auntiedi is pohns
[17:30] <Sedina> Heirs was a rather depressing series...
[17:30] <KK> Well, we had some humor in KKB.
[17:30] <emily> You need some light with the dark, balance is good
[17:30] <Shiral> I'm curious about Brion's sisters
[17:30] <KK> This will be darker, though.
[17:31] <Rambart20> I'm curious too
[17:31] <whytcrow> Dark is good
[17:31] <Shiral> I'll bet they'll be interesting people
[17:31] <Michael> uh-oh...
[17:31] <scribbler> a lot of humor in KKB -- I liked when Amelia said to Nigel, "We're going to visit God!"
[17:31] <Jessie> any shade of Deryni is good
[17:31] <Shiral> Dark is very good <G>"
[17:31] <Rambart20> dark can be very informative
[17:31] <raushana> I'll have my kleenex ready..
[17:31] *** Kelos_al-Hazar Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[17:31] <KK> Kids are useful for humor.
[17:31] <Shiral> Dark can be like chocolate, bitter, but delicious all the same..
[17:31] <emily> I have to speak up for the light though, plenty of dark in the real world
[17:31] <Sedina> I'm very curious as well...  Until I checked out some of the geneology of the Haldane family, I guess I didn't realize that Brion even had any sisters.
[17:31] * scribbler threatens peer with a mindrip....
[17:31] <KK> I think Kelos has gone to get the frozen monkfish.
[17:32] <Shiral> They're in the Codex, Sedina
[17:32] * Shiral whaps Peer around with a fresh monkfish as a warmup
[17:32] <Rambart20> how many did he have melissa?
[17:32] <Sedina> But I don't have a Codex.  *pouts*
[17:32] * Jessie reminds Shiral that not all of us have Codex
[17:32] <whytcrow> yeah -- need more female characters!
[17:32] <scribbler> How old was Araxie when Richard die? Just curious....
[17:32] <Shiral> Two, Xenia and Silke Anne
[17:32] <Sedina> I'm one of the deprived, remember.
[17:32] <Rambart20> ah okay
[17:32] <scribbler> me too....
[17:32] <Rambart20> I know silke I think was the nun
[17:33] <whytcrow> how does one pronounce Silke?  Silk-ee or Silk or something else?
[17:33] <raushana> Unusual names!
[17:33] <Shiral> I know that some of you are deprived.
[17:33] <Shiral> Silke was the nun
[17:33] <emily> Katherine, have you heard any new news about progress on Codex 2?
[17:33] <KK> Silk-ee.
[17:33] <whytcrow> ah -- cool
[17:33] <the_Bee> or depraved <g>
[17:33] <whytcrow> thanks
[17:33] <Shiral> Did Donal name Silke? <EG>
[17:33] <Sedina> Bee - LOL  I was just about to make a similar comment about being depraved.  *g*
[17:33] <KK> No, Rob is finishing the Atlas.  I have the first few chapters, but haven't had time to look at them yet.
[17:33] <Rambart20> hey I resemble that comment
[17:33] <emily> Isn't a silkee a type of Irish sea fairy?
[17:34] <scribbler> I think on the NG, he said possibly February for Codex 2....
[17:34] <whytcrow> selke
[17:34] <KK> Silkie. -- the Seelie-folk.
[17:34] <Shiral> Looking it up...Araxie was not quite Five when RIchard died
[17:34] <whytcrow> selke -- seal shapeshifters
[17:34] <Michael> He's hoping for February
[17:34] <scribbler> thx Shiral....
[17:34] <Shiral> You're welcome
[17:35] <emily> Thanks
[17:35] <scribbler> Shiral -- I just heard one of the jets from the airshow -- probably pretty loud by you?
[17:35] <Jessie> KK:  did Aunte Silke come to her nephews wedding?
[17:35] <Shiral> Silke was a cute princess, she lolloped around the palace corridors balancing a ball on her nose
[17:35] <Shiral> yes, Scribbler, VERY loud
[17:35] <emily> Eating monkfish
[17:35] <emily> She did become a nun, right?
[17:35] <auntiedi> and slapped the backs of her hands together"ork ork"
[17:35] <KK> Alas, she's grown and in the convent by the time this book begins.
[17:35] <scribbler> LOL Shiral & emily!
[17:36] <Michael> silke's boyfriend is named lether....... hee hee
[17:36] <Jessie> KK:  did Aunte Silke come to her nephews wedding (i.e. Kelson & Araxie)?
[17:36] <scribbler> and auntiedi!
[17:36] <Shiral> Yes, It was hard to get her a nun's habit that fit properly
[17:36] <Rambart20> Lol Micheal I got that
[17:36] <KK> Might have done.  Never said she did or didn't, so if someone wants to write a story about that....
[17:36] <Shiral> I got that too, Michael, very bad!
[17:37] <Shiral> So Silke was allowed to leave her convent, now and then
[17:37] <emily> Wasn't someone earlier talking about writing a deryni story with fishing in it?
[17:37] <Michael> BLUSH
[17:37] <the_Bee> Did Ryol come to kelson and Araxie;s wedding?
[17:37] <scribbler> my next one will have a brief mention, but it's not a central part...
[17:37] <emily> And I think that same person was talking about a nun writing a book about fishing?
[17:37] <KK> One of Jessamy's daughters is a novice nun at a convent outside Rhemuth.
[17:37] <Rambart20> oh really
[17:38] <Jessie> really KK?
[17:38] *** duck has joined #Deryni_Destinations

[17:38] <emily> Hi Donald!
[17:38] <scribbler> were there any Deryni orders for women around the time of Camber?
[17:38] <Michael> QUACK!
[17:38] <the_Bee> Hi Donald
[17:38] <raushana> Hi Duck
[17:38] <auntiedi> hiya duck

[17:39] <whytcrow> hey donald!
[17:39] <Sedina> How goes the project, Donald?
[17:39] <the_Bee> back from the OUTBACK dONALD?
[17:39] <KK> Our Lady of the Rainbow.  They wear grey habits with a band of rainbow embroidery along the front edge of the veil; professed ones add a band of rainbow around the hem.  (They work on the embroidery while they're novices.
[17:39] <duck> day 6, about 70 hours of work done already
[17:39] <Shiral> Pan is looking at the screen thinking HIM again?
[17:39] <emily> Katherine, are you serious?
[17:39] <Shiral> Sounds like a Groovy order. <G>
[17:39] <scribbler> thx KK....
[17:39] <KK> Yep.
[17:40] <duck> nope - i've managed to convince people that i have to come into the office on monday mornings to do 'paperwork'
[17:40] <Sedina> Shiral - You thinking of signing up or something?  *g*
[17:40] <emily> ACK Donald! those hours are awful!
[17:40] <scribbler> I love it, Donald!!!!
[17:40] <Shiral> You need a new line of work, Donald
[17:40] <Sedina> Donald - yup.  Very important papework.  *g*
[17:40] <duck> 6 am to 6 pm plus travelling time
[17:40] <emily> There's ;your bit of humor Michael
[17:40] <lbarms> hey there duck
[17:40] <scribbler> or a new location....
[17:40] <Jessie> Katherine what does our lady of the rainbow order do?
[17:40] <Shiral> Extremely important paperwork
[17:40] <the_Bee> kk WILL we ever meet the Rainbow Nuns?
[17:41] <KK> Of course you'll meet them.  They pray; they garden.
[17:41] <Shiral> And after rain, they really shine
[17:41] <duck> i had a question for katherine but i have forgotten it now
[17:41] <Michael> Rainbow nuns.... I love it!
[17:41] <whytcrow> silly duck
[17:41] <scribbler> And there might be Healers too....
[17:41] <Jessie> now -- was Silke a Rainbow nun?
[17:41] <whytcrow> darn it all -- now the thunder is starting
[17:41] <emily> I wonder which archangel, or saint is their patron?
[17:41] <Jessie> and did the Rainbow nuns exist from the time of Camber to the present?
[17:41] <KK> The habit would actually be very pretty--rainbow breaking through the grey of the rain.  Think about what the rainbow symbolizes.
[17:41] <whytcrow> ah well, time for dinner anyways -- see you tomorrow Emily!
[17:42] <scribbler> emily -- St. Noah.....
[17:42] <duck> the nuns were drug dealers,
[17:42] <Shiral> They certainly had fashion sense, KK
[17:42] <emily> See you around 10-11 ish Jen, take care!
[17:42] <whytcrow> I think the order of the rainbow is rather neat
[17:42] * Shiral smacks duck with a trout
[17:42] <duck> selling drugs to support their habits
[17:42] <whytcrow> emily, you'll have to let me know what goes on here after I leave. ;)
[17:42] <Wrengl>  LOL
[17:42] <emily> Imagine what the herald could do with THIS!
[17:42] * lbarms groans
[17:42] <Sedina> LOL  Can definitely tell that we've got a duck with us
[17:42] <raushana> Ack!
[17:42] <auntiedi> lol
[17:42] <Wrengl>  Indeed we can
[17:43] <whytcrow> bye all -- the thunder can't be fought (need some weather magic lessons!)
[17:43] <emily> will do Jen
[17:43] <Shiral> Bye Jen
[17:43] <KK> I was looking for a saint; best I could come up with was Iris as the Greek goddess of the rainbow.  Apparently no Roman equivalent.
[17:43] <Shiral> Come back again
[17:43] <Rambart20> I can see it too donald selling drugs out of a psychedelic bus
[17:43] <Sedina> Bye Jen
[17:43] <the_Bee> bye Jen
[17:43] <Jessie> now -- was Silke a Rainbow nun?
[17:43] <lbarms> bye

[17:43] <KK> Bye, Jen.
[17:43] <scribbler> by jen
[17:43] *** whytcrow has left #Deryni_Destinations
[17:43] <Sedina> Jessie's very focused on finding out more about Silke.  *g*
[17:43] <Jessie> and did the Rainbow nuns exist from the time of Camber to the present?
[17:43] <Shiral> Jessie is always focused <G>
[17:43] <scribbler> Sounds like a story is percolating....
[17:43] <Shiral> But I mean that as a compliment
[17:44] <raushana> Yay Jessie!
[17:44] <Jessie> not really -- I just like the concept behind the Rainbow Nuns
[17:44] <Sedina> And she thought that we wouldn't miss her if she wasn't here today.  *g*
[17:44] <auntiedi> we're getting that thunder too, i'm gonna have to go soon.
[17:44] <lbarms> we always miss Jessie when she isn't here
[17:44] * Sedina is thankful that for once it's not storming here
[17:44] <Michael> There oughtta be rainbow priests too!
[17:44] <scribbler> the only thunder Shiral and I are getting are jetplanes -- there's an airshow going on nearby....
[17:44] <Shiral> Now I remember what I wanted to ask..
[17:45] <raushana> What was the focus of their order?
[17:45] * duck starts singing "i'm always chasing rainbows"
[17:45] <Jessie> lol duck
[17:45] <emily> The rain is okay by me, I'm just thankful we aren't having another drought
[17:45] <scribbler> I used to be a Rainbow Girl....
[17:45] <the_Bee> My computer has worked through thunderstorms without blinking,
[17:45] <lbarms> well all, I am verra verra tired so I think I will re-tire
[17:45] <KK> Sorry, had to look up Silke.  No, her convent was outside Grecotha.
[17:45] <Shiral> How closely related in spirit is the Arx Fidei Abbey of Denis Arilan's time related to the Arx  Fidei Abbey of Javan's time?
[17:45] * Wrengl is awaiting thunder but luckily none yet
[17:45] <Sedina> Duck - there's always Kermit the Frog's song "Rainbow Connection"...  *g*
[17:45] <Shiral> Night, Laura
[17:45] <Jessie> lol Laura -- verra verra good night
[17:45] <scribbler> nite, Laura....
[17:45] <KK> Princess Genese, later a visionary, might have been there at that time.  It was a royal convent.
[17:45] <Rambart20> bye Laura hopefully i can chapter 12 done soon for you to edit
[17:45] <Shiral> I though Kermit's song was  "it's not easy being Green."
[17:45] <Jessie> where are the Rainbow nuns located?
[17:46] <Wrengl>  night laura
[17:46] <Sedina> Bye Laura
[17:46] <Rambart20> have a good night
[17:46] <scribbler> Shiral -- "Rainbow Connection" was from the first Muppet Movie...
[17:46] <KK> Outside Rhemuth.
[17:46] <Shiral> Bye Laura
[17:46] <Jessie> thanks
[17:46] <Rambart20> snicker
[17:46] <Michael> There oughtta be rainbow priests to balance the order.
[17:46] * lbarms steps onto her portal and thinks lovely rainbow colored thoughts as she disappears into the night
[17:46] <Jessie> lol Laura -- verra verra good night
[17:46] <Shiral> Well, I never saw that movie Scribbler
[17:46] <Rambart20> I love that movie

[17:47] <Kendall> boy was that ever good
[17:47] <scribbler> WB Kendall!!!!
[17:47] <KK> I was looking for a saint; best I could come up with was Iris as the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Apparently no Roman equivalent.
[17:47] * Sedina smacks herself out of her singing mode and back into chatting mode
[17:47] <the_Bee> How was the roast pork?
[17:47] <Rambart20> long time no see
[17:47] <Sedina> wb Kendall!
[17:47] <Kendall> great
[17:47] <Shiral> Iris sounds like a neat saint to me, KK
[17:47] <Kendall> simmered in white wine and chicken stock with rosemary and garlic
[17:48] <Jessie> were the Rainbow Nuns -- deryni?
[17:48] <Shiral> Question about Rothana's former order, the nuns of St. Brigid -- were they around in Camber's time?
[17:48] <Shiral> Or were the rainbow nuns really into prisms?
[17:48] <Kendall> hey Bart
[17:48] <KK> The sisters take the name Iris with their own name, as novices, then replace the real name with a name in religion when they make final vows.
[17:48] <raushana> Were all of them deryni, or were they a mixed order?
[17:48] <KK> No, Jessie.
[17:49] <Rambart20> how is the weather up there in wisconsin
[17:49] <Shiral> Sister Iris-Mary, SIster Iris-Anne?
[17:49] <duck> the refracting nuns
[17:49] <scribbler> or maybe Mary-Iris....
[17:49] <Shiral> They refracted in the Refectory
[17:49] <auntiedi> sister iris-silke
[17:49] <Rambart20> I think you started something KK
[17:50] <Rambart20> I am not even going near this one
[17:50] <auntiedi> guess that's to be expected when you're working in the service of the light.
[17:50] <Shiral> What if her name was  already Iris?
[17:50] <Sedina> It doesn't take much to get this group started though
[17:50] <Shiral> Nope <G>
[17:50] <auntiedi> sister iris iris
[17:50] <Kendall> not tonight
[17:50] <KK> Jessamy's daughter is Sister Iris Jessilde. convent is Notre Dame d'Arc-en-Ciel.  I think they came from Bremagne originally.
[17:50] <duck> do they have the retinae of saint iris as a relic?
[17:50] <Jessie> Iris eyes are smiling?
[17:50] <Rambart20> we haven't had a food fight in awhile either
[17:50] <Sedina> iris-squared?
[17:50] <auntiedi> and her brother osiris iris
[17:50] <scribbler> Oh, I thought they might have been -- I wanted to know if there was a Deryni order for women (like the men had the Gabrillites and Michaelines) back in Camber's time....
[17:50] <Kendall> Bart you missed the semi-food fight earlier
[17:50] <Shiral> And if she had a facial hair problem, would her name be Bearded Iris?
[17:50] <Rambart20> oh darn it
[17:51] <duck> a food fight not started by bart, i'd like to see that
[17:51] <Michael> Good question scribbler!

[17:52] * the_Bee hurl a platter of spaghetti and meatballs at the duck
[17:52] <Kendall> me, Kendall looks innocently around the room
[17:52] * Wrengl takes one and thanks Shiral
[17:52] <Jessie> was the order that Camber's sister joined -- mainly Deryni?
[17:52] <scribbler> I was thinking because in Deryni Magic it mentioned that any female Healers that Rhys would know would possibly be found in a convent....
[17:52] <auntiedi> well, i have to go rescue my dog from under the bed, she's afraid of thunder.  good talking to y'all.  i don't know when i'll be back, i seem to have some intense computer work  ahead of me.
[17:52] <KK> There were Deryni orders for women in Camber's time and before.

[17:53] <KK> Rothana's former order had some Deryni.
[17:53] <auntiedi> i'll get to the post office this week, i promise.
[17:53] <Shiral> Was that order around in Camber's time, though?
[17:53] * Jessie sends auntiedi a hug
[17:53] <KK> Bye, auntie.
[17:54] <the_Bee> don't worry about, Auntie.  I'm still working on the book. :)
[17:54] <KK> May,e, Shiral.  But it came from somewhere in Torenth.
[17:54] <auntiedi> bye kk, good talking to you again, thanks for the hug jessie. thanks bee .  take care y'all.
[17:54] <Kendall> she must be from the south
[17:54] <Jessie> missed you auntiedi

[17:56] <JastaElf> Me too, but I'm at that funny age when I have to occasionally be a grown-up.
[17:56] <scribbler> Sorry to hear, Jasta...
[17:56] <JastaElf> :-)
[17:57] <Shiral> Adulthood is VASTLY overrated!
[17:57] <Shiral> But occasionally necessary
[17:57] <JastaElf> I've heard that.  :-)
[17:57] <Kendall> wait til your married and with kids
[17:57] <emily> ah, responsibility rearing it's ugly head?
[17:57] <Wrengl>  It certainly is.  That's why I have rejected it!
[17:57] <scribbler> I've finally decided what to be when I grow up; now I have to decide when to grow up....
[17:57] <Rambart20> tell me about it
[17:57] * Sedina doesn't like having to be a grown-up
[17:57] <JastaElf> Kendall, I am married with kid.  :-)
[17:57] <JastaElf> coming up on 23rd anniv.

[17:57] <JastaElf> kid is 18 going on 50...  :-)
[17:57] <Kendall> I was speaking to Shiral :)
[17:57] <scribbler> real life tends to bite you on the butt when you least want it too...

[17:58] <Rambart20> married with children
[17:58] <JastaElf> thanks emily!
[17:58] <Sedina> Shiral - Yes, if anything should be whacked with a monkfish, I think that adulthood qualifies
[17:58] <Shiral> Well, I like to THINK I have adult tendencies, Kendall <G>
[17:58] <scribbler> LOL Wrengl -- still got 8 years to go....
[17:58] <scribbler> married, no kids -- my husband's enough of a handful....

[17:59] <KK> Ah, perhaps that explains his recent cryptic note that he might move to the East Coast.
[17:59] <scribbler> you've never met my husband, Kendall....
[17:59] <JastaElf> He did mention that, KK!  :-)
[18:00] <JastaElf> Shiral, would you believe I've been a prisoner in Tolan?? :-)
[18:00] <Kendall> in fact the only person i have met in this illustrious group is Bart
[18:00] <Shiral> Try me.<G>
[18:00] * Sedina giggles at Jasta
[18:00] <KK> In Tolan, eh?
[18:00] <Shiral> Charissa got hold of you, did she?
[18:00] <Sedina> Kendall, you're one up on me.  I haven't met anyone.  *g* Not yet anyway
[18:00] <scribbler> I've met KK, Shiral and Kiri, and Golux and her brood (but they're not here today....)
[18:00] <scribbler> oh, and Kelric, and Rob....
[18:00] <Shiral> And Susan and Carolyn too
[18:00] <JastaElf> Yup.  Mountains and stuff.  Lots of German accents.  :-)
[18:00] <JastaElf> Actually, last week we were at the Wintergreen resort for a family reunion.
[18:01] <scribbler> Yes -- I'm having several senior moments right now....
[18:01] <JastaElf> If Charissa got hold of me, that would be creepy -- seeing as she's dead and all...  :-)
[18:01] <Shiral> Geez, I guess that beats being Charissa's guest!
[18:01] <JastaElf> It was a lot LIKE being a prisoner, yes....  ;-)
[18:01] <Kendall> and fictional! :)
[18:01] <scribbler> Family reunions are neat....
[18:01] <Rambart20> they can be
[18:02] <KK> Golly, I've just looked at the time--and Scott needs to finish some e-mails.
[18:02] <JastaElf> They can be, scribs.  Jim's older broyher was there this year for the first time.
[18:02] <Shiral> Depends on the family
[18:02] <KK> You know what this means, folks....
[18:02] <scribbler> Since when has fictionality stopped anyone around here?
[18:02] <JastaElf> Tell Scott hi for me! :-)
[18:02] <AnnDupuis> Well, dinner's ready here and I don't want to get hamburger grease on my keyboard....
[18:02] <Sedina> Family reunions with my family can be scary.  My family is about the size of a small army
[18:02] <Shiral> You're turning into a pumpkin KK?
[18:02] <Kendall> thats true scribs
[18:02] <KK> I will.  He's actually working on the outline again.  Has a new computer.

[18:03] <JastaElf> 4-footed Jasper says hi, KK...  :-)
[18:03] <the_Bee> Goodbye all departing folks
[18:03] <KK> New to us.  It belonged to Annie's sister-in-law--a basic Gateway, Windows 98, only 2 gig--but a vast improvement.  And it has a color printer, so he doesn't have to carry disks into my office.
[18:03] <JastaElf> :-) Cool!
[18:03] <Shiral> Congratulations to Scot!
[18:04] <KK> He's pleased.  We'll see if this means he'll now apply bottom to chair and get some serious writing done.  :-)
[18:04] <KK> And on that note....
[18:04] * scribbler picks up her laptop and steps on the Portal.....
