Title: Question "—III Hennas 7:12"
Post by: JediMatt1000 on October 04, 2018, 04:46:05 PM
Hi all,

Which book would I find III Hennas 7:12? I noticed KK quoted it in Ch. 10 of Camber the Heretic. Was wondering where she was quoting it from. Thank you!
Matt

Do you mean III Hermas?  I think there are some apocryphal books named after Hermas, but nothing is coming up under Hennas except for plant-based hair or temporary tattoo dyes.  I can easily see a scanned copy of "Hermas" coming out as "Hennas," though, since the letters are very similar and easily misread by scanning technology. And KK did say something about the more recent e-books having been scanned from print copies because she did not have the original manuscripts in electronic form, since they were written back during the age of typewriters rather than word processing.

And now I'm imagining a patron saint of hair dye and decorative body art hailing from the Indian subcontinent. LOL!

Katherine does use verses from Apocrypha books. But I'm not seeing Hennas as one of them.

I imagine it is the Shepherd of Hermas which is a late 1st century CE work which nearly made it into the New Testament.   I could remember the title but good old Wikipedia supplied the details.
