Title: KK Chat -- 8 October 2017
Post by: DesertRose on October 08, 2017, 07:23:51 PM
Oct 08 19:17:41 *   KK has joined
Oct 08 19:17:43 <DesertRose>   Hi KK!
Oct 08 19:17:44 <The_Bee>   I'm eating something called "fiesta chicken."
Oct 08 19:17:47 <The_Bee>   Hi KK
Oct 08 19:17:49 <Jemler>   hi kk
Oct 08 19:17:50 <Laurna>   Hello KK
Oct 08 19:18:02 <Evie>   Hi, KK!
Oct 08 19:18:03 <KK>   Hi, guys.
Oct 08 19:18:04 <DesertRose>   Sounds Tex-Mex/Southwestern-influenced, Bee.
Oct 08 19:18:13 <Laurna>   I have not even considered what to cook for dinner yet.
Oct 08 19:18:15 <DesertRose>   Or Mexican-influenced.
Oct 08 19:18:23 <DesertRose>   Well, it's what, 4:15 there?
Oct 08 19:18:30 <The_Bee>   courtesy of meals on wheels
Oct 08 19:18:32 <Laurna>   yep
Oct 08 19:18:34 <KK>   Evie, are you getting hurricane winds, or are you out of the path of Nate?
Oct 08 19:18:53 <DesertRose>   Although you might want to sort out WHAT to eat, even if you don't get cracking on cooking per se just yet.
Oct 08 19:19:19 <The_Bee>   7:18 here
Oct 08 19:19:37 <DesertRose>   I meant the time stamp at Laurna's; she's in Pacific time.
Oct 08 19:19:41 <Evie>   They blew through in the earlier morning hours. Right now I'm hanging out at a friend's house across town because my power is out due to a tree falling on the line, and we were supposed to have dinner plans last night with her, but they got postponed due to the storm.
Oct 08 19:19:43 <Laurna>   Oh is that how you cook.  You plan it out ahead of time, instead of grabbing what ever you can find.
Oct 08 19:19:48 <DesertRose>   LOL, Laurna
Oct 08 19:20:28 <DesertRose>   Yeah, under normal circumstances, I actually sit down, look at what's on sale at the supermarket, decide what I want to make that has ingredients on sale, plan a menu, write a grocery list, and THEN go shopping.
Oct 08 19:20:47 <DesertRose>   But I'm a little obsessively organized and also WAY too broke to do otherwise.
Oct 08 19:20:48 <Evie>   At least they managed to get the tree out of the road, since it was blocking the only route in and out of my neighborhood earlier this morning
Oct 08 19:21:04 <Laurna>   Oh DR, that is WAY too much foreplaning
Oct 08 19:21:10 <DesertRose>   I have no choice.
Oct 08 19:21:17 <DesertRose>   I can't afford NOT to plan ahead.
Oct 08 19:21:19 <The_Bee>   Nate is supposed to bring us some rain in the next few days.
Oct 08 19:21:43 <Evie>   Nate is pretty good at that, I can assure you. :-D
Oct 08 19:21:43 <KK>   All the way in Boston?!
Oct 08 19:21:50 <Laurna>   Is Nate stillheading North
Oct 08 19:21:53 <DesertRose>   And I formed the habit from watching my mother, who, if she wasn't naturally organized, had sure as [bleep] formed the habit BUT good by the time I was old enough to notice.
Oct 08 19:22:14 <The_Bee>   yep.  coming up our way
Oct 08 19:22:26 <DesertRose>   Probably, Laurna.  Last I checked, Nate was down to tropical depression status but definitely still there and still on the move.
Oct 08 19:22:54 <KK>   EEp, then we might get some of it, too.  I'd better look at the forecasts.
Oct 08 19:22:58 <Laurna>   Being that I have always worked swing shift, I have never learned more than the basics of cooking dinner.  I am good at lunches. but not dinners.
Oct 08 19:23:06 <DesertRose>   Next update will probably be around 8 pm Eastern, KK.
Oct 08 19:23:52 <DesertRose>   I learned to cook for several people, and I can't seem to break that habit, so I tend to cook some dish for supper on, say, Monday, and then eat leftovers for lunch and supper Tuesday and lunch Wednesday, and then cook something new Wednesday night.
Oct 08 19:24:14 <DesertRose>   Or something along those lines.  I have a couple of recipes that make WAY more than four servings, but those usually freeze well.
Oct 08 19:24:15 <Laurna>   That works
Oct 08 19:25:31 <Laurna>   KK anything around your house to worry about with a tropical wind storm
Oct 08 19:25:32 <DesertRose>   And by Wednesday evening, I'm bored with whatever I cooked Monday, too.
Oct 08 19:26:32 <Laurna>   They say the best way to lose weight is always eat the same thing. you will eat a lot less of it over time.
Oct 08 19:26:45 <KK>   Only trees coming down.  We've had several, over the years, and our trees are mostly pretty old.
Oct 08 19:27:19 <Laurna>   Ok Wishing KK's trees to bend with the wind and not to break
Oct 08 19:27:41 <Laurna>   Too late to wish that for Evie's trees
Oct 08 19:28:12 <Evie>   I was amused by my weather app staying that a storm surge was not predicted for Central Alabama "at this time." I live four hours' drive inland.  Exactly at what time would we EVER get a storm surge, and can I please get enough advance notice to build an ark if we do?!  :-D
Oct 08 19:28:34 <The_Bee>   We lost a catalpa tree to hurricanes back in 1954. Carol blew it over, dad propped it up, then Edna blew it over in the other direction
Oct 08 19:28:43 <Laurna>   LOL evie
Oct 08 19:29:04 <DesertRose>   LOL, Evie
Oct 08 19:29:44 <KK>   Astute observation, Evie.  ;-)
Oct 08 19:30:11 <Laurna>   Poor Catalpa tree,  was that the last of its kind? as I have no Idea what a Catalpa tree is.
Oct 08 19:30:32 <The_Bee>   My neighbor's cat just came in.  He uses Melantha's litterbox.
Oct 08 19:30:50 <DesertRose>   I'm sure Melantha is impressed with that, Bee.  ;)
Oct 08 19:31:14 <Laurna>   With all the wide world outside, he comes into your house?
Oct 08 19:31:40 <DesertRose>   Carys and I are at my parents' house, because the leaky window situation in my bedroom and living room has reached the point of being unlivable.
Oct 08 19:31:47 <The_Bee>   both are indoor cats, but Mickey goes out sometimes.
Oct 08 19:31:51 <Evie>   :-(
Oct 08 19:32:05 <Laurna>   Sorry to hear that DR
Oct 08 19:32:07 <The_Bee>   Catalpa is  flowering tree.
Oct 08 19:32:25 <DesertRose>   It smells like mold/mildew the minute you open my door, and there's standing water on the windowsill in my bedroom which drips onto the floor and makes a big puddle there too, plus a slight leak in the living room window as well.
Oct 08 19:32:43 <KK>   Many cats would rather come inside to use a litter box instead of the out-of-doors.  After all, dirt between your toes, little bugs, ewwwww.
Oct 08 19:32:57 <DesertRose>   I can't breathe in the bedroom or bathroom (you have to walk into the bedroom to get to the bathroom); I start coughing.  It's gross.
Oct 08 19:33:08 <The_Bee>   I bet Carys is not at all eager to go out.
Oct 08 19:33:13 <DesertRose>   She doesn't go out.
Oct 08 19:33:26 <KK>   Is that storm damage, DR?
Oct 08 19:33:29 <DesertRose>   We live on the 14th floor, and I don't have a balcony or anything.
Oct 08 19:33:31 <DesertRose>   Somewhat.
Oct 08 19:33:39 <Jemler>   she's a scardy cat?
Oct 08 19:34:26 <DesertRose>   The leak has been a problem for quite a while now, at least 18 months, but it was a nuisance-level problem that flared up only when it rained heavily and/or for several days before Irma.  Irma made it so that there's a constant leak that makes a hellacious mess every day.
Oct 08 19:34:28 <Laurna>   I looked up Catalpa tree.  pretty tree. We definitely do not have any of those in CA
Oct 08 19:35:08 <DesertRose>   No, Jemler.  She just doesn't get the opportunity to go outside, and since the people from whom I adopted her found her living rough in their neighborhood, I doubt she's eager to give up the house-cat life now.  ;)
Oct 08 19:35:24 <KK>   And your landlord says....?
Oct 08 19:36:03 <DesertRose>   They keep trying to patch the leak, but I think either the leak isn't where they think it is, or the sealant isn't getting a chance to dry/cure completely, because the repair never holds.
Oct 08 19:36:31 <Laurna>   That is not good
Oct 08 19:36:40 <DesertRose>   And I don't know, but I informed them on Friday that I was no longer able to breathe in my bedroom/bathroom and I was thus not home, and also that I was thus NOT impressed.
Oct 08 19:36:47 <KK>   No, and 18 months is a long time to not fix the leak.
Oct 08 19:37:09 <DesertRose>   They've been trying.  It just never gets fixed correctly or the repair doesn't hold.
Oct 08 19:37:25 <KK>   Not trying hard enough, then.
Oct 08 19:37:48 <DesertRose>   Building maintenance has made at least four attempts to patch the leak, and they hired an outside contractor to pressure wash the building exterior a while back, and the contractor made an attempt to fix the leak as well.
Oct 08 19:37:54 <DesertRose>   None of the repairs have held.
Oct 08 19:38:26 <DesertRose>   And it wasn't THIS bad until Irma, but I've phoned them about it a dead minimum of five times since 12 September, when I got back from evacuating.
Oct 08 19:38:34 <The_Bee>   I had a problem once, convincing a landlord there was a leak.
Oct 08 19:39:24 <DesertRose>   One of the maintenance guys stopped by on Friday, 29 September, to let me know he'd just finished trying to seal the leak (attempt four, at least), and it seemed to be okay most of that weekend, but Monday morning it was dripping again.
Oct 08 19:40:14 <DesertRose>   Monday, I had to go out to a medical appointment and then go get some groceries, and I paid my rent before I came upstairs.  When I got into my apartment, I realized that the leak repair on Friday hadn't held worth a damn, because there was water everywhere (all over the windowsill and a puddle on the bedroom floor).
Oct 08 19:40:37 <DesertRose>   If I'd known earlier on Monday that the repair on Friday hadn't held, I'd have withheld my October rent.
Oct 08 19:40:38 <Laurna>   I would tell them it is time for them to get you a better, Dry, appartment in that building. and then have them move you.
Oct 08 19:40:52 <DesertRose>   And if it's not fixed by November, you best believe I'm withholding November's rent.
Oct 08 19:41:23 <KK>   I agree with Laurna.  In that big a building, surely they can move you into a dry apartment.
Oct 08 19:41:42 <DesertRose>   Even though that entails socking the money away in a special account so I can prove to them that I have the money and CAN pay my rent but I'm not GOING to pay my rent until they fix my apartment so I can breathe in my own [expletive deleted] bedroom.
Oct 08 19:42:11 <DesertRose>   No, it's not that simple.  Because I live in a housing authority (public housing) property, when an apartment becomes available, it generally goes to someone on the waiting list.
Oct 08 19:42:29 <DesertRose>   So there aren't vacant apartments just sitting there.
Oct 08 19:42:41 <KK>   In a case like yours, I'd think you'd move to the head of the queue.
Oct 08 19:43:11 <DesertRose>   But if they don't get their [bleep] together soon, they WILL have to move me, and I will kick up all manner of fuss if they give me any stress about it.
Oct 08 19:43:51 <KK>   How long have you lived in tht building?
Oct 08 19:43:56 <Laurna>   I hope either happens without unde stress
Oct 08 19:44:13 <DesertRose>   I'm already composing a letter to the relevant Senior Vice President of the housing authority, to be copied to the President and the manager of my building, detailing the problem and how SEVERE my displeasure is.
Oct 08 19:44:26 <DesertRose>   Six and a half years, ish.  I moved into my apartment in April 2011.
Oct 08 19:45:03 <DesertRose>   I'm trying to get a hold of the contractor who did the pressure washing to find out when exactly that happened, because I don't recall exactly, and I want to have my ducks in a row with this letter.
Oct 08 19:45:12 <KK>   That certainly should give you some seniority and clout.
Oct 08 19:45:35 <Laurna>   I hope it works out
Oct 08 19:45:37 <DesertRose>   Well, there are some people in my building who've lived there for decades.
Oct 08 19:46:06 <DesertRose>   The gentleman who lived at the end of the hall from me was probably old enough to have kids my age, but he'd lived there for something like thirty years when he passed last month.
Oct 08 19:46:12 <KK>   In any case, it sounds like you've got a solid plan of attack.  Good luck!
Oct 08 19:46:16 <DesertRose>   Yeah.
Oct 08 19:46:52 <DesertRose>   I'm a nice person, most of the time.  But you don't want to aggravate me on something like this.  A BA in English might be a "useless degree," but it'll teach a person to do research.  :)

Oct 08 19:47:20 <The_Bee>   hi jerusha
Oct 08 19:47:22 <Evie>   Hi Jerusha!
Oct 08 19:47:25 <Laurna>   Hello Jerusha   You made it.
Oct 08 19:47:27 <DesertRose>   I can be tenacious to the point of being an utter PITA, if need be.
Oct 08 19:47:36 <DesertRose>   Hi Jerusha!  You truant you!  ;)
Oct 08 19:47:58 <Jerusha>   Hi Everyone
Oct 08 19:48:16 <Jemler>   hi jerusha
Oct 08 19:48:30 <DesertRose>   KK, Jerusha's been "skipping class" to hang out with her DS, his fiancee, and their dogs, so I've been picking on her for missing chat.
Oct 08 19:49:00 <Jerusha>   Yep, that's me
Oct 08 19:49:24 <Laurna>   Hanging out with the dog's is important job
Oct 08 19:49:47 <Jerusha>   One must do what one can
Oct 08 19:50:08 <Evie>   KK, autumn has arrived in the Mini-Deryniverse.  I made these this morning while waiting to see if the power would come back on:  https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/JGKcfR
Oct 08 19:50:49 <Jerusha>   No power due to Nate?
Oct 08 19:51:07 <Laurna>   is that wall art?
Oct 08 19:51:27 <The_Bee>   lovely.  arethereal leaves or 1/6 scale leaves? ;)
Oct 08 19:52:06 <Evie>   Yes, Jerusha.  A tree (or large branch or something) fell on the power lines and also blocked the only road in or out of my neighborhood this morning. Road is partly clear now, but lines were still down when I left the house earlier today.
Oct 08 19:52:43 <Jerusha>   Hope it all gets fixed soon
Oct 08 19:52:50 <Evie>   1/6 scale leaves, Bee. Made with a leaf-shaped paper punch and paper I painted last night with watered-down acrylic paints.
Oct 08 19:53:22 <The_Bee>   They look very real.
Oct 08 19:53:28 <KK>   You <made> those?  As in, with an oak-leafed hole punch, I'd guess?
Oct 08 19:53:59 <Evie>   Yes.  I got a 4-pack of leaf-shaped punches, and that is the oak version. I haven't tried out the others yet.
Oct 08 19:54:02 <KK>   Well, guessed that right, anyway.  Cool leaves.
Oct 08 19:54:05 <The_Bee>   I thought I was kidding when I asked.
Oct 08 19:54:31 <Jerusha>   They make punches like that?
Oct 08 19:54:40 <Evie>   They're approx. .75" long by .5" wide
Oct 08 19:54:41 <Laurna>    cool
Oct 08 19:54:48 <KK>   Had to be manmade leaves.  Our real ones never look so tidy.
Oct 08 19:55:05 <Jemler>   why not? like cookie cutters for paper.
Oct 08 19:55:18 <Evie>   The punch looks like this, Jerusha.  https://www.flickr.com/gp/9573389@N08/bxh1qc
Oct 08 19:55:28 <KK>   And I didn't think you could have cut them all out by hand.
Oct 08 19:56:02 <KK>   What kind of leaves are the other punches?
Oct 08 19:56:36 <Evie>   If you punch them too close to the next one or too near the paper's edge, you get irregular shaped leaves or partial leaves, and sometimes bits break off when you curl the edges to make them look more real, but the extra bits and misshapen ones look like leaf litter, so it works.
Oct 08 19:56:39 <Laurna>   thats really cool
Oct 08 19:56:46 *   Dderynifank (Dderynifank@OWIRCN-af550fea.hr.cox.net) has joined
Oct 08 19:57:01 <Evie>   I know there's a maple leaf, and something with multiple leaves on a stem. I don't remember what the fourth leaf shape was.
Oct 08 19:57:11 <Dderynifank>   Sorry to be late
Oct 08 19:57:13 <The_Bee>   Hi DFK
Oct 08 19:57:14 <Jemler>   marijuana?
Oct 08 19:57:25 <Evie>   But I might do a red maple with lots of intense red/orange/yellow colors next.
Oct 08 19:57:26 <Dderynifank>   Hi all
Oct 08 19:57:36 <Evie>   LOL, I think not, jemler.  :-D
Oct 08 19:57:38 <Jerusha>   Hi dfk
Oct 08 19:57:47 <Evie>   Hi DFK
Oct 08 19:57:51 <Laurna>   Jemler,  where is my mackerel launcher.
Oct 08 19:57:57 <Evie>   Evie smacks Jemler upside the head with a mackerel
Oct 08 19:58:04 <Evie>   I'm using it, Laurna.  ;-)
Oct 08 19:58:23 <Laurna>   Good you have better aim from there than I do.
Oct 08 19:58:40 <Jemler>   i nay have to move.
Oct 08 19:58:48 <Laurna>   lol
Oct 08 19:58:49 <Dderynifank>   Why
Oct 08 19:59:01 <The_Bee>   Real, Jemler?
Oct 08 19:59:09 <Jemler>   i may have to move. my locationed has been pin-pointed.
Oct 08 19:59:12 <Jerusha>   Oh dear, Jemler
Oct 08 19:59:15 <Laurna>   Jemler is in need of a mackerel dinner
Oct 08 19:59:24 <Dderynifank>   Or is it to get away from the mackerel
Oct 08 19:59:40 <Jemler>   i already had tacos, so no thank you
Oct 08 19:59:56 <Jerusha>   Mackerel mapped
Oct 08 20:00:01 <KK>   I figured he needed to try to get out of range.
Oct 08 20:00:01 <Laurna>   lol
Oct 08 20:01:05 <Evie>   Ooh, just looked at my macros list, and I'd forgotten I had one in here for DR during her rare moments when she needs to be "fished"   :-D
Oct 08 20:01:33 <Jerusha>   In coming!
Oct 08 20:01:36 <DesertRose>   LOL
Oct 08 20:01:41 <Evie>   Evie launches a hail of sardines at DesertRose
Oct 08 20:01:52 <DesertRose>   No thanks.  I hate seafood.
Oct 08 20:01:54 <DesertRose>   :P
Oct 08 20:01:58 <Laurna>   LOL
Oct 08 20:02:03 <Evie>   I have no idea what DR was doing at the time to inspire that macro, but I have it.  :-D
Oct 08 20:02:13 <Evie>   Did someone say Duncan McLain?
Oct 08 20:02:17 <DesertRose>   Probably being a PITA in one way or another.
Oct 08 20:02:18 <Evie>   And that one too
Oct 08 20:02:20 <Jerusha>   But Carys may be pleased
Oct 08 20:02:22 <Laurna>   For just that moment when....
Oct 08 20:02:38 <DesertRose>   Well, true, and since I'm at my mom's, what Carys doesn't eat, PJ and Merlin will be glad to help finish.
Oct 08 20:03:03 <Evie>   I really ought to make one for Jerusha instead, since she's far more likely to pun than DR is!
Oct 08 20:03:15 <DesertRose>   Yeah.
Oct 08 20:03:34 <Laurna>   Run Jerusha Run behind Jemler.
Oct 08 20:03:34 <DesertRose>   I have a new Facebook friend whom I know via SCA folks, and he made a pun that actually made me laugh.
Oct 08 20:03:57 <Jerusha>   Jerusha hides under her chair sitting by the campfire
Oct 08 20:03:57 <The_Bee>   Tell!
Oct 08 20:04:01 <DesertRose>   I told him and the mutual friend via whom he and I became friends that they both needed to go to the punitentiary, and he said it was his gaol.
Oct 08 20:04:16 <Jemler>   i'm a very respunsible person.
Oct 08 20:04:30 <Evie>   Argh! LOL!
Oct 08 20:04:34 *   DesertRose slaps Jemler with a tuna.
Oct 08 20:04:45 <Laurna>   oh dear
Oct 08 20:04:59 <Jerusha>   Oh my!
Oct 08 20:05:04 <DesertRose>   That one was pretty good, and it transpires he posts a lot of cat memes with Latin captions, so he and I will get along just fine.
Oct 08 20:05:24 <Dderynifank>   The fish are wicked tonight
Oct 08 20:05:45 <Evie>   That pun works great in written form. Wouldn't work as well if spoken aloud.
Oct 08 20:05:48 <Jemler>   if you want to talk about leather, perhaps i can be per-suede-d to join in the conversation.
Oct 08 20:06:02 <Jerusha>   Do you brush Carys with catacombs?
Oct 08 20:06:09 <DesertRose>   One of the more recent cat memes had a black and white (cow print) cat sitting in front of a typewriter, captioned with words every writer has thought or said (at least in their native language, maybe not in Latin):  Quod scripsi, scripsi.  "What I have written, I have written."
Oct 08 20:06:30 <DesertRose>   No, true, Evie.  It wouldn't have worked except it was a Facebook reply thread.
Oct 08 20:07:13 <DesertRose>   He also posts pretty garb.
Oct 08 20:07:31 <DesertRose>   Including one of a Barbie and Ken dressed up in what looked like late-ish Italian Ren.
Oct 08 20:07:44 <DesertRose>   If it had been a public post, I'd have shared it with Evie.
Oct 08 20:07:48 <DesertRose>   But I'm not sure of the source.
Oct 08 20:07:58 <DesertRose>   So I didn't want to copy it or anything like that.
Oct 08 20:08:22 <DesertRose>   A lot of the garb pics he posts are on actual human models, though, not dolls.
Oct 08 20:09:22 *   Dderynifank has quit (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client)
Oct 08 20:09:36 <Evie>   Oh, cool!
Oct 08 20:09:54 <The_Bee>   It's after 8pm.  anyone want to check the weather update?

Oct 08 20:10:21 <DesertRose>   SCAdian.  Nobody else would post cat memes with Latin captions cheek-by-jowl with garb photos.
Oct 08 20:10:22 <DesertRose>   :)
Oct 08 20:10:30 <Evie>   Italian ren garb he made, or just an Italian Ren Barbie and Ken? If the latter, it might be the Romeo and Juliet collector's set
Oct 08 20:10:30 <DesertRose>   Rehi Dderynifank
Oct 08 20:10:33 <DesertRose>   No idea.
Oct 08 20:10:55 <DesertRose>   It looked like SOMEONE had sewn it, not like Mattel fabrication; it was too authentic for Mattel.
Oct 08 20:11:03 <Jerusha>   That was supposed to be rehi
Oct 08 20:11:15 <DesertRose>   DYAC, Jerusha?

Oct 08 20:12:14 <The_Bee>   Guess who Kiwi is mad at this week.
Oct 08 20:12:38 <DesertRose>   Nope, wasn't those, Evie.
Oct 08 20:12:43 <Evie>   OK
Oct 08 20:13:11 <DesertRose>   The ones he posted were in red and gold brocade with gold trim and white chemise/undershirt (respectively), and the same brocade had been used for both outfits.
Oct 08 20:13:44 <The_Bee>   At that price, they better be higher than Mattel's usual quality.

Oct 08 20:14:22 <DesertRose>   https://weather.com/storms/hurricane-central/bulletin/advisory?bPIL=TCP&id=AL162017  Here's the 5 pm advisory.  I guess Nate's gotten weak enough that they're not going to update the advisory until 11 p.m.
Oct 08 20:14:33 <Evie>   Yes, the collector's exclusives tend to be pretty high end. They're not really meant to be unboxed and played with, at those prices, although my guess is that when it first came out, it was priced lower and then has gone up as it 's become more rare.
Oct 08 20:14:50 <DesertRose>   When a storm is still strong, they update the advisory every three hours, but I guess Nate's down enough that they've gone to every six hours.

Oct 08 20:16:28 <DesertRose>   But KK, y'all might well see some rain and a little wind.
Oct 08 20:16:28 <Evie>   A closer look:  http://img14.deviantart.net/96a5/i/2015/208/9/b/barbie_and_ken_as_romeo_and_juliet_by_seawaterwitch-d92zjbo.jpg  I really wanted that Juliet when I first found out about the set, because when I was in high school, I looked enough like Olivia Hussey that I had several classmates ask me about the play I was in (they had seen the movie poster and got confused), but alas, it was out of my price range even a few years ago
Oct 08 20:16:53 <Evie>   .
Oct 08 20:17:10 <DesertRose>   Oh yeah, that's the Zeffirelli film costuming, isn't it?
Oct 08 20:17:20 <Evie>   Yes, that's what it's based on
Oct 08 20:18:02 <Evie>   (For some reason I'm missing some of my text above, but hopefully it got through. I posted that random period just to make my own text appear for me.)
Oct 08 20:18:21 <DesertRose>   Still can't get over the dipsticks who wanted to boycott Shakespeare over that production of Julius Caesar, apparently in all seriousness about boycotting.
Oct 08 20:18:50 <Evie>   Go ahead, I don't think Shakespeare will really care at this late date.  ;-)
Oct 08 20:19:08 <DesertRose>   Like, boycott the theatre/production company, sure, but I think ol' Will of Stratford is past caring, for one, and would furthermore satirize the crap out of them were he still around to care.

Oct 08 20:19:27 <The_Bee>   Who's boycotting it?
Oct 08 20:20:01 <KK>   OOOp, gotta go.  Dinner is calling.  See you guys next week--and stay warm and dry.  Well, dry, anyway.
Oct 08 20:20:14 <DesertRose>   There was a production, I think it might have been part of the Central Park Shakespeare in the Park series, of Julius Caesar, in which the title character was costumed to look like the current president.
Oct 08 20:20:24 <Evie>   Though that reminds me, I read a fascinating book this week about a college professor who teaches Shakespeare to inmates at a maximum security prison, and how being able to relate to the plays has helped raise questions on topics like honor, integrity, vengeance, etc. in a way that has positive rehabilitative results over time.
Oct 08 20:20:26 *   KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
Oct 08 20:20:39 <Evie>   Goodnight, KK!
Oct 08 20:20:45 <The_Bee>   Nighters, KK.  Thanks for coming and have a good week
Oct 08 20:20:49 <DesertRose>   So a bunch of people got all hot about a certain scene in that play (whence cometh "beware the Ides of March").
Oct 08 20:20:50 <KK>   Nighters, all.
Oct 08 20:20:59 <DesertRose>   G'night, KK, have a good week and thanks for coming!
