Deryni Series

If you've never visited Gwynedd and met the Deryni, you've missed a rare and wonderful fantasy series, filled with incredibly real characters, breathtaking magic, and plots that keep you reading into the wee hours of the night. The Deryni world roughly parallels 10th, 11th, and 12th century England, Scotland, and Wales and accurately depicts life in that era with detailed descriptions of castles and clothing. The Deryni possess magical powers which their powerful medieval church views as evil, so they face conflicts with the Church as well as enemy armies. One warning: Be prepared to cry. Katherine's characters are never "safe" and often the good, noble characters meet unpleasant ends.

In the above post, a number of titles (But not all) list both Amazon and open media.
When I follow the open media links, they generally seem to point to the Amazon edition.
Are there benefits to following the open media links?

Also, are there any resources thru one might beneficially purchase, say, an entire trilogy at a discount? I have nearly every one in print form but carrying physical copies leaves possibility of losing the copy.

Thank you. Just pointed a fantasy lover to the series.

Open Road Media is the publisher of the e-editions of Katherine's books; the Amazon links above are (or were when I made the links--I probably ought to give them a review and update as needed) for purchasing a paper copy of the relevant book.

If you sign up for Early Bird Books email digests, sometimes they will have Katherine's books on special; I got my e-editions of the first four Deryni trilogies that way, as packages.  (I bought them at different times, when they were on sale, but I bought each trilogy as an e-omnibus*.)

*It's a brave new world of publishing technology; I couldn't come up with a better way to express how I bought each trilogy than e-omnibus.  E-box set?  But there's no box.  ;)
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

Decades ago, I had purchased most of my Deryni novels through Science Fiction Book Club. Back then, they were hard-cover editions. The club no longer carries these books, however, from time to time I see the entire collection come up on Ebay for not too much money. I also have the first series in paper-back but they are too abused to read,  so it is hard-covers for me. I have all the E-books too, which I liked to read when I was at work.  Of course, now that I am retired, it is back to the hard covered books. I  do like a book that is visible on the shelf.

Who was asking about the Codex Deryanis? I have a copy. I think whoever it was wanted to know where the 500 copies were.

I think they were looking for the original 500 copies in hardcover. I think they were numbered and signed

Then I don't have one, as I have a paperback one.

I miss the older paperbound editions of the first Deryni books-- I liked the cover art. I never knew the old SF Book Club had hardcover editions! I think the first hardcovers I saw were at a bookstore where I worked in grad school-- I always made sure we had the series in paperbound, plus any new hardcovers by KK.

The Codex was something I missed when it appeared, and I've never actually any edition of it in the flesh. But I would love to.

Laurna

This is most of my collection of Deryni books.

I later found Deryni Magic on my desk, so it is not in the picture. Also St Patrick's Gargoyle is not a Deryni novel but it sits with the rest. The first 7 shorter hard-bound books, which are the first three trilogies, I purchased through the SF book club. I purchased these in the early 1980's. The later hard-back books are through the book stores as they were published. I do not know if any hard cover books are still available as new books on amazon, but I do see the used books on ebay. Also try your local library or used book store, they might have them. Although the author does not get royalties from used books, so I would hope she does get royalties from the purchase of new copies. I have no idea how that works.
And believe me when I say these have all been well read many times.
May your horses have wings and fly!

Jerusha

Your paperback copies of the first three books look exactly like mine....read very often and almost falling apart!
From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night...good Lord deliver us!

That is an amazing collection. I also read and reread mine so in some cases Ii have multiple copies of the same book so I won't find myself without one.

That's why I've started buying them as ebooks, because I'm never without my phone. :)

Lovely collection, Laurna!
