[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:16:25 PM EDT] <Derynifank> How was the celebration and tea?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:16:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have an armful of purry Carys.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:16:53 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Iwe were talking about cats as I just had a new one move in
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:17:56 PM EDT] <imladris> Sadly am allergic to cats.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:18:10 PM EDT] <KK> It was lovely. We had a cake with a full moon on it, complete with craters; little cucumber and watercress tea sandwiches made by a dear friend; muffins and danish. And tea, of course, though it was only Litpon.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:18:21 PM EDT] <Matt> Sorry to hear that Imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:18:23 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Wimsey is sleeping on my lap.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:18:30 PM EDT] <KK> New cat? Do tell!

[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:23:37 PM EDT] <bynw> my poor kitty had a bad dream while she was napping this afternoon. she woke up suddenly and was crying. i had to give her comforts and lots of loves
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:23:37 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I was saying that an elderly friend of mine died and we adopted his cat
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:23:58 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Poor kitty.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:24:13 PM EDT] <The_Bee> good for you. is the new cat settling in nicely?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:24:46 PM EDT] <imladris> sadly they have since passed... but suspect my spouse will have a new dragon by end of the year. hard with moving - she had Katie and Sweet Pea. . My last was Joshua
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:26:01 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Doing well. In his previous home the blinds were never open so he is fascinated that he can now see out. It's like, hey there's a world out there
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:26:21 PM EDT] <The_Bee> What's his name?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:26:36 PM EDT] <KK> How old a cat, and what color, etc?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:26:50 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Would you believe "sweetie pie, for a boy?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:12 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Boys can be sweet.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:13 PM EDT] <KK> Boys can be sweetie pies.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:32 PM EDT] <DesertRose> This was my Sweetie Pie, as an adolescent kitten: http://www.rhemuthcastle.com/gallery/25_20_02_08_1_30_43.jpg
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:41 PM EDT] <Derynifank> He's an orange tabby with four white feet. Think he is about 7, vet records not clear on that
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:51 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And yes, boys can absolutely be sweetie pies, though mine was a girl kitty.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:27:59 PM EDT] <KK> Orange cats are the best!

[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:28:30 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hi Jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:28:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> He is definitely very sweet
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:00 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Can see how he got the name
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:11 PM EDT] <imladris> hi Jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:11 PM EDT] <jerusha> Who?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:23 PM EDT] <jerusha> Hi Imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:27 PM EDT] <KK> Has he always been an only cat?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:29:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Someone on a different forum I frequent adopted a little scruffy sick mite of a ginger kitten, and now he is healthy as can be, half grown with a magnificent floofy orange tail, and up to the general shenanigans of adolescent kittens. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:30:11 PM EDT] <KK> Wonderful!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:30:13 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Do you have other furbabies, Imladris, and how are they taking to the newcomer?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:30:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Amazing what a few months of good care can do.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:30:18 PM EDT] <jerusha> The best way to be
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:30:20 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Yes. He was originally found outside in a snowstorm and taken to th SPCA. My friend adopted him from there
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:13 PM EDT] <The_Bee> oops I meant ADK, not Imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> DFK

[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:27 PM EDT] <bynw> hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:30 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:31 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It's cat chat so far this week. :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:32 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hello, all
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:34 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:35 PM EDT] <jerusha> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:41 PM EDT] <Matt> Hi Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:41 PM EDT] <Shiral> Mrraaow??
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:53 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Definiely
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Carys is sitting on my chest as I type.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:31:58 PM EDT] * Shiral puts out saucers of cream for the cat's chat
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:01 PM EDT] <KK> Hey, Shiral, what kind of printer did you get?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> I bought an HP Envy 7858
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:33 PM EDT] <Matt> Nice!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:40 PM EDT] <Shiral> Does everything my old printer did with a smaller footprint
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:54 PM EDT] <KK> How much?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:32:59 PM EDT] <bynw> that's always good
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:01 PM EDT] <Matt> We have an all in one printer scanner copier
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:11 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That sounds good. I have an HP envy but older model
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:16 PM EDT] <Shiral> The price I paid was....let me look
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:34 PM EDT] <Matt> It was like $40 from Wally-world
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:39 PM EDT] <jerusha> I have an HP "been around for a while"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:48 PM EDT] * bynw has an all in one HP printer/scanner/copier
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:33:55 PM EDT] <Shiral> $194 is the regular price and I got it for $75.00 off at Costco
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:04 PM EDT] <KK> I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8610. Several years old now, but it wasn't expensive.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:05 PM EDT] <jerusha> Nice deal!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:10 PM EDT] <bynw> costco for the winning discount
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:11 PM EDT] <The_Bee> good bargain
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> My old one worked fine....until it didn't
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:32 PM EDT] <bynw> mine is a laser jet pro
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:36 PM EDT] <imladris> [An aside, is the Michaeline.org still responsive? Sent a few inquiries, but never got a reaponse].
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:42 PM EDT] <KK> Costco can really come through. We got our last heat pump thinging through them.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have a Samsung printer/scanner/copier, because I wanted something to do all three of those things but I didn't need or want a fax machine (I don't have a landline nor do I often have need to fax anything to anyone).
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:34:59 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I don't have a printer. I go to our local public library to make copies.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:05 PM EDT] <imladris> Gave up on HP when they stopped making drivers for working printers. When Win 7 came out.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:07 PM EDT] <Shiral> Costco definitely came through for me this time
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:19 PM EDT] <KK> HP does it all; maybe not fax. I never use that feature.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:21 PM EDT] <Shiral> And now my cathedral has "stained glass" windows
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:29 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Recently got a ceiling fan from Costco. Good price and I really like it. Even has aremote control
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:50 PM EDT] <Shiral> My new one HAS a fax machine, the features I really need are the printer and scanner
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:54 PM EDT] <jerusha> Printed per the specifications, Shiral?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:35:55 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And I might be about to get a new-to-me monitor; a friend's husband's workplace is offloading a bunch of monitors, and my current monitor is older than the tower (I bought the tower in August 2011, to give you an idea re the monitor's age).
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:36:04 PM EDT] <bynw> you'd have to have some kind of landline in order to fax. even it its a voip one like magicjack or something
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:36:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> Making tiny windows is immensely time consuming and fiddly, but I have to say I'm very pleased with the results.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:36:58 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Share a picture?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:36:59 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Scanner--is thatwhat you use to send a picture of ssomething on-line?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:37:04 PM EDT] <DesertRose> The monitors that Friend's Husband's Job are Dell, which isn't my prefered brand, but they're only two years old and the one I have has been behaving like it might be ready for the boneyard.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:37:27 PM EDT] <jerusha> I am a Dell fan
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:37:31 PM EDT] <DesertRose> No, Bee, scanners are for basically making a copy except that the copy goes to a computer file instead of a fresh sheet of paper.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:37:35 PM EDT] <Shiral> I use it to take regular paintings and drawings and turn them into computer files
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:37:45 PM EDT] <KK> I've had only good luck with Dell. I think this is my 3rd one.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:38:04 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hey, if something works for you, stick with it!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:38:36 PM EDT] <Derynifank> The scanner is great for copying old photos and turning them into computer files
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:38:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm fond of Lenovo and HP for computers, my current monitor is an Acer which has served long, honorably, and well, but I'll be hanged if I'll refuse a two-year-old 24" monitor with a price tag of $0. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:00 PM EDT] <jerusha> Good strategy
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:09 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Can't beat that deal DR
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:20 PM EDT] <KK> Though right now, I'm annoyed with my machine. Cameron updated a lot of stuff when he was here a few months ago, and it doesn't act like the older versions of Word and Windows that I had been using.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:25 PM EDT] <The_Bee> So what do you use tp post a picture or whatever a website or a forum?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:30 PM EDT] <jerusha> I will need to replace my laptop someday, but I hate transferring programs and information
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:34 PM EDT] <Shiral> I have loyalty for HP although with occasionally spotty results
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:39:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Right?! And when Friend told me about it, she was just aghast that her husband's workplace was just going to throw these monitors away!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:40:05 PM EDT] <Shiral> I use the computer file, Bee. Saved as a jPeg which is a pretty common format for images.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:40:22 PM EDT] <bynw> not if he updated them KK, the newer versions are visually different from previous editions and takes a bit of a learning curve
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:40:43 PM EDT] <Shiral> My mom wants me to switch to Apple, but that would involve a lot of format and file changes
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:40:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> It depends on the website, Bee. Some sites have the capability for users to upload a photo directly to the site; some sites don't, but there are other sites that do nothing but photo hosting, and those sites that don't have the capacity for direct upload of photos will generally allow you to link to your picture on one of the photo hosting sites.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:06 PM EDT] <KK> Do. Not. Like. Apple.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:10 PM EDT] <Matt> Not a big fan of Apple
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:12 PM EDT] * The_Bee is an apple-phobic.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:15 PM EDT] <bynw> Shiral, yes that would ....
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> Well....I love my iPod, iPad and iPhone.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:41:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I mostly use PostImages for photo hosting since Photobucket decided to require a paid account if you wanted to link to your photos on a site that isn't Photobucket.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:08 PM EDT] <Shiral> I use my iPod at work when I need to concentrate and block out outside distractions. I have one co-worker who is a tuneless whistler and another one who talks to himself and then giggles.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:33 PM EDT] <bynw> Shiral, that sounds painful
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:34 PM EDT] <imladris> Daughter went to Apple, told her "She went over to the Dark Side"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:34 PM EDT] <KK> On a somewhat rerlated subject, does anyone have a pop-socket on the back of their phone? My friend has one that's really cool, but I bought one last week and can't get it to stay stuck to the back of the phone.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:40 PM EDT] <jerusha> That could be problematic
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:49 PM EDT] <Shiral> Let's just say an iPod is cheaper than a murder trial
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I'm not an Apple fan either; their products seem, generally, to be overpriced and underpowered.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:42:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, Shiral.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Murdering one's coworkers is generally frowned upon, yes.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:19 PM EDT] <Shiral> I'm only half joking!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:21 PM EDT] <jerusha> What us a pop socket?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:21 PM EDT] * bynw is OK with Apple, and has had one in the past and wouldnt mind having one again. and does have an iphone
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:41 PM EDT] <bynw> no i dont have one of those on my phone
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:54 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Price is a major consideration for me.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:43:58 PM EDT] <KK> It's a little round thingie that sticks to the back of you phone, and can be slightly extended to make it easier to hold the phone.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:44:03 PM EDT] <Shiral> I WAS annoyed with apple for getting rid of the ear-phone jack on the iPhone.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:44:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hard to listen to audio books in a private way
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:44:39 PM EDT] <jerusha> Ah, OK. Obviously, I don't have one
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:44:41 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I don't know personally, KK; I don't have a popsocket on my phone, but the Kiddo does. I can ask her if no one here can help.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:44:55 PM EDT] <bynw> Shiral, the nearer earbuds for apple are all lightning now and you can also get adaptors too
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:45:10 PM EDT] <imladris> Always said Apple's business model is Fascism. you will do it OUR way with the apps we approve....
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:45:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> After buying a new printer, I'm not in the market for fancy earphones
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:45:38 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Am using an iPad. If I got a computer again, I'd go through Other World Computing for a refurb
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:45:41 PM EDT] <bynw> actually apple is in the hardware business. the software and everything else is just a side effect of it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:02 PM EDT] <imladris> but you HAVE to use what they approve
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:09 PM EDT] <imladris> for hardware and software
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:17 PM EDT] <jerusha> I cannot tolerate ear buds. They drive me nuts
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:19 PM EDT] <imladris> not open archetecture
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Same here, jerusha.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> And it is very difficult if not impossible to get one fixed
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> I have problems keeping them in my ears
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:46:48 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I have yet to find a pair of earbuds that I can tolerate for more than half an hour before I want to yank my ears off.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:47:03 PM EDT] <jerusha> Five minutes max
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:47:24 PM EDT] <Shiral> DR....just take out the earbuds. You'd miss your ears!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:47:26 PM EDT] <KK> I'm thinking to just return it to Walmart. My friend has one, and she has a case on her phone, as do I, but I think her case os smoother than mine. I have an Otterbox.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:47:47 PM EDT] <bynw> i use a regular headset with a boom microphone for my iphone with the lightning adaptor so it will work without the 3.5mm jack
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:47:55 PM EDT] <The_Bee> How do I control what windows open when I open Google Chrome. There's a web page called "gigi gorgeous "that keeps popping up, and I can't get rid of it.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:48:16 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I think my ear canals must be shaped a little oddly (wouldn't be the first body part of mine to be a QA reject for "irregularity," LOL). If I'm going to use headphones, it's generally going to be the old-fashioned over-the-ear style.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:48:19 PM EDT] <bynw> KK, i think those pop things wouldnt work well with an otterbox
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:48:54 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Does an otterbox have live otters?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:48:55 PM EDT] * Shiral has some very odd visual images that come up with "otterbox" when it comes to phone cases.

[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:54:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Okay, cool.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:54:34 PM EDT] <imladris> Actually, not a lot snow where I live.... Cold but not a lot of precip.. almost desert.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:55:00 PM EDT] <bynw> sounds like you traded humid hot for dry hot
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:55:09 PM EDT] <imladris> At least last season... and dry cold
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:55:10 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Shall I call you Dr. Derset Rose from nowon?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:55:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, no. All I have is a BA in English. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:55:45 PM EDT] <The_Bee> We were 80-something fahrenheit today.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:56:09 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Wish rain distribution could be improved, Poor Houston is drowning. Where are the weather workers when we need hem
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:56:59 PM EDT] <The_Bee> My younger sister once wrote a paper for junior high in which she said that Australia was 3/4 dessert.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:57:15 PM EDT] <Shiral> Australians are very sweet
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:58:14 PM EDT] <jerusha> Are they dessert versus desert Australians?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:58:35 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Have we heard from our aussie buddies lately?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:58:48 PM EDT] <bynw> some are ornery ... like Duck
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:02 PM EDT] <bynw> Duck popped into the chat one day a few months back
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I'm drawing a blank on our female Aussie chatter.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Alkari
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:36 PM EDT] <The_Bee> ah, thanks
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:43 PM EDT] <jerusha> Haven't heard from her in ages
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:48 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Isn't alkari an aussie?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:54 PM EDT] <The_Bee> yes
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [7:59:55 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yep
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She's been busy; her mum passed, and she's had some other demands on her time, which preclude chat or overlap with chat time.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Is she fully recovered from her cancer?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:30 PM EDT] <jerusha> It's hard with that type of time differnce
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:32 PM EDT] <Shiral> I think it's also hard since our Sunday is her Monday
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:46 PM EDT] <Shiral> We think alike, Jerusha =o)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:00:59 PM EDT] <jerusha> I take that as a compliment
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:00 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Evening here is morning there.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:03 PM EDT] <bynw> yeah our sunday night would be her monday morning
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:22 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She is, but she had to have some kind of orthopedic surgery recently (I don't remember what it was; she told me and I'm blanking) and as is usually the case with ortho procedures, she had to go to some fairly extensive physical therapy.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:40 PM EDT] <The_Bee> rough going
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> Where's Evie lately, come to think of it?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:53 PM EDT] <jerusha> Good to know she is recovered from the cancer
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:01:54 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Chat time being Monday morning her time wouldn't be such a big deal as she's retired, but it's just been a series of other things demanding her time and energy.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Evie's been with parents lately.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:20 PM EDT] <KK> Is Evie still tied up with helping her parents move?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Evie's parents moved from south Texas to Alabama, and she's been spending a lot of time with them.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:39 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I think they're moved, but she's still spending a lot of time with them.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:55 PM EDT] <bynw> yeah she's over at their place frequently
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:02:57 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I miss Alkari, such a wonderful writer
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:03:01 PM EDT] <Shiral> I recall they are, but they inconveniently schedule Sunday dinner during chat
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:03:03 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And her job has gotten super busy too, so she's often just out of energy on the weekend.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:03:36 PM EDT] <bynw> there is that too people schedule dinner during chat for some reason
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:03:45 PM EDT] <jerusha> Guilty
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:04:39 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I've sometimes eaten dinner while chatting.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:04:44 PM EDT] <Matt> Not feeling very well. Think I might just go lay down. Pleasure chatting with everyone!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:04:55 PM EDT] <jerusha> Hope you feel better, Matt
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:00 PM EDT] <Matt> Ty
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:00 PM EDT] <bynw> i've eaten dinner too during chat
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:04 PM EDT] <bynw> feel better Matt
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:05 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Nite Matt, hope youu feel better
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:07 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Bye, Matt. Hope you fel better soon.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:08 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Rest and feel better, Matt!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:09 PM EDT] <KK> Nighters, Matt. Hope you feel better soon.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:10 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Take Care
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Night, Matt
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:05:56 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've eaten supper during chat quite a few times, but most of the time I've already had supper at chat time, unless I'm at my parents' house doing laundry; they do supper later than I do at home.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:21 PM EDT] <imladris> Going to put some steaks on the grill
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:22 PM EDT] <The_Bee> early supper today
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yum, imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> Usually have supper after chat. Then Sunday is TV night
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:46 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Steaks on the grill. Yumm!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:51 PM EDT] <Shiral> And ironing night
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:06:55 PM EDT] <bynw> where is the nearest Transfer Portal when you need one
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:00 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Well, yeah, Shiral, but you're in Pacific time. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:06 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Right, bynw? LOL
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:09 PM EDT] <Shiral> Precisely
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:12 PM EDT] <KK> Thinking about supper myself. It's been a long day at the desk, clearing paperwork. Yuck!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:25 PM EDT] <The_Bee> That works for you, Shiral. Chat time for you is4:00 p.m.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> We have a very serious shortage of transfer portals, I must say
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:37 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Paperwork is a pain, indeed, KK.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:39 PM EDT] <KK> Wait, Shiral! You iron?!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:39 PM EDT] <bynw> no kidding
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:55 PM EDT] <Shiral> Necessary, but tedious
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:55 PM EDT] <imladris> the local market had tenderloin roasts at $8.99 /lbs
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:07:57 PM EDT] <jerusha> Sometimes it is necessary
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:13 PM EDT] <imladris> cutting into steaks
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:28 PM EDT] <jerusha> I have a little steamer, but I haven't tried it yet
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:31 PM EDT] <Shiral> Yes, KK. I have some summer blouses that make me look like I spent the night sleeping on rocks if I don't iron them.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:33 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I was recently notified by my medical insurance company that they're going to online explanations of benefits and all I could think was, THANK HEAVENS! Less paperwork to stuff into the filing cabinet!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:43 PM EDT] <Shiral> And September has been hot, this year
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:08:54 PM EDT] <Shiral> TV makes ironing less tedious.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:09 PM EDT] <bynw> not ironing makes it very enjoyable
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:12 PM EDT] <bynw> :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:14 PM EDT] <jerusha> Sometimes I put in more wrinkles than I take out
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:17 PM EDT] <Shiral> That's what I get for preferring natural fibers
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:21 PM EDT] <KK> But then, I mostly wear knits; if it requires serious ironing, I don't buy it--or I send it to the cleaners.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:09:43 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I don't even own an iron. I send my laundry out, and it comes back nice and neat.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:07 PM EDT] <Shiral> It's my Puritan work ethic, Bynw. =o) A friend scolded me about a week ago for my inability to passively sit and be entertained
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:11 PM EDT] <KK> I remember having to iron when I was in HS and even college, but other than for sewing, tp press eams and the like, I don't think I've ironed anything in years.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:14 PM EDT] <bynw> we have a very fancy iron but rarely use it unless something really needs it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I seldom iron unless I'm sewing. Any textile needs to be washed or dry cleaned (as applicable) before sewing, and an awful lot of the textiles I use for SCA garb need to be ironed to be pieced correctly.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, KK, great minds. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:36 PM EDT] <imladris> I was made to iron the pillowcases as a kid to learn...
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:49 PM EDT] <imladris> got a bunch of scorched pillowcases...
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:54 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yes, I remember ironing sheets
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:10:59 PM EDT] <Shiral> well, I'm NOT so far gone as to iron sheets
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:01 PM EDT] <The_Bee> "earns"?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:13 PM EDT] <Shiral> Just garments I plan to wear in public
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:23 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Seams
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> My mother irons the pillowcases and the "top" edge of their bed linens, but not the whole sheet.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:44 PM EDT] <bynw> thats cray cray
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:11:50 PM EDT] <imladris> Was to teach.. had a mangle too.. That was kind of fun
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:00 PM EDT] <Shiral> Clean sheets go from the dryer to my bed
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:09 PM EDT] <bynw> amen to that Shiral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:18 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> I too wear knits or cotton-poly blends. Repetitive motion hurts,, so I suck at household chores
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:20 PM EDT] <Shiral> Sometimes to my bed to "under cat"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:25 PM EDT] <Derynifank> A mangle sounds scary, lie a medieval weapon
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:12:26 PM EDT] <DesertRose> But she's pretty seriously old-school about household maintenance. She also irons jeans, at least the ones that are fit for street wear (as opposed to the work-around-the-house variety).
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:02 PM EDT] <jerusha> "My name is Jerusha, and I have ironed jeans"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:02 PM EDT] <Shiral> And I don't iron jeans!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:13 PM EDT] <imladris> Was a steaming device, set the piece on it .. and it steamed and creased.,.,,
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:21 PM EDT] <Shiral> Mangle sounds l ike something Loris would use when he wants a confession
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:29 PM EDT] <imladris> less burns to the fabric and me than the iron
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:35 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Yup
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:43 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, like my mother before me, I have two sets of sheets for my bed, so when it's time to wash them, I strip the bed, put the other sheet set on the bed, and then go to my mom's house to wash the sheets I just took off the bed.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:57 PM EDT] <imladris> No doubt it would have worked for that too, Shral
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:13:59 PM EDT] <The_Bee> ever get you hand caught in the mangler?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:14:21 PM EDT] <imladris> nope... had to put top down and close it to work
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:14:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> Sounds like the kind of thing you wouldn't WANT your hand to get stuck into
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:14:56 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I think my mom had a mangler once, when I was very young.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:15:14 PM EDT] <Shiral> Thursday is my clothes laundry day. Saturday is Sheet and Towel day
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:15:18 PM EDT] <bynw> yeah something about the name makes me want to stay far away from it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:15:18 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And as to cats and bed linens, Carys "helpfully" chases the bedding as I remove one set and put on the other.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:15:54 PM EDT] <imladris> probably threw ours out in the 70's
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:15:56 PM EDT] <Shiral> I waited until the cats were busy eating, then went upstairs and quickly put the clean sheets on the bed
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:06 PM EDT] <jerusha> I once made the bed and discovered I had made a whippet into it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:14 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Strategic, Shiral. :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:19 PM EDT] <The_Bee> My laundry is oicked up Monday morning, returned Tuesday morning. One of the perks of senior citizenship in Boston.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oops, jerusha! :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:21 PM EDT] <Laurna> Hello everyone
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:24 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:26 PM EDT] <Laurna> Jerusha that is funny
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> That must have been a bit alarming for the Whippet!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:31 PM EDT] <bynw> hi Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:34 PM EDT] <Shiral> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:36 PM EDT] <jerusha> Hi Laurna!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:37 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:39 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Hi Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:50 PM EDT] <jerusha> He laid so flat I didn't notice until he moved
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:54 PM EDT] <KK> Hi, Laurna. We're talking about ironing!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:54 PM EDT] <Laurna> I was just sewing and ironing. but not my sheets
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:16:57 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Mom's made the bed in the last year or so and discovered she made a Layla into it.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:03 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> Have to mine whilst His Grace naps in a chair, lest he gets on the bed and wo'yt move
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:12 PM EDT] <Laurna> I am working on a 17th cent pirate dress
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:22 PM EDT] <Laurna> Lost track of time
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:23 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Melantha does the same, DR.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:28 PM EDT] <DesertRose> PJ is too dignified for such shenanigans, and Merlin is too big to miss him, but Layla is small and stealthy and a holy terror of an adorable kitten.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:38 PM EDT] <jerusha> Oh, that sounds interesting.Laurna
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:17:52 PM EDT] <Shiral> Dmitri is an enthusiastic assistant for bedmaking
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:12 PM EDT] <Derynifank> That sounds intriguing would love to see it when you finish
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:30 PM EDT] <Laurna> This is just for halloween so not the real thing.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:41 PM EDT] <KK> Laurna obviously got caught up in "talk like a pirate" day.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:55 PM EDT] <Shiral> It's hard to find an authentic 17 century pirate, these days
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:55 PM EDT] <jerusha> You beat me to that, KK!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:56 PM EDT] <bynw> lol
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:18:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Oh, I bow before Laurna's sewing abilities. I still can't wrap my head around why facing works on necklines. I do it, because I know it works, but don't ask me how. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:19:35 PM EDT] <Laurna> hehe. Home Depot had a pirate ship for sale this year. had to get it. then I convenced everyone that the theme will be pirates. so need to dress up all the skelitons and myself that way.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:19:47 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Sounds like fun!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:19:53 PM EDT] <bynw> we want pictures :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:19:57 PM EDT] <jerusha> I saw that ship. Awesome!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:04 PM EDT] <Shiral> That's a LOT of little pirates!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:10 PM EDT] <bynw> no pictures = it didn't happen
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:26 PM EDT] <jerusha> How many little skeletons?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:40 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Some of my local SCA friends are planning a New Year's Day brunch, and since the new year will be 2020, the theme is 1920s day dress. I'm having a great deal of fun just figuring out what I'm going to make to wear.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:52 PM EDT] <The_Bee> and how many are in closets?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:20:56 PM EDT] <Laurna> what was funny was the box was so big it did not fit in my SUV so I had to take everything out of it in theparkinglot piece by piece.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:07 PM EDT] <jerusha> Oh dear!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:24 PM EDT] <bynw> thats dedication
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:27 PM EDT] <Shiral> I think I'll stick to nice, manageably sized cathedrals. =o)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:31 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:44 PM EDT] <imladris> Katherine. I have been away awhile moved from Florida to Wyoming, I met you and yours at the last Darkshold/first ChessieCon. My condolences to you albeit belated.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:45 PM EDT] <jerusha> Especially on Halloween
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:21:49 PM EDT] <Laurna> I think we now have 8-9 skeletons in the atiic and the two I just got make 11
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:16 PM EDT] <jerusha> Skeletons in the attic...what a concept!

[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> any skeletons in the closet?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:31 PM EDT] <Laurna> nope
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:31 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I thought it was skeletons in the closet and toys in the attic? :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:55 PM EDT] <Laurna> the skeletons are toys for Oct 31
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:22:59 PM EDT] <jerusha> The pirate gold is in the closet
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:23:10 PM EDT] <DesertRose> ROFL, jerusha!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:23:14 PM EDT] <Laurna> we now have more Halloween toys than christmas decorations
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:23:34 PM EDT] <KK> Florida to Wyoming, wow. I don'[t think I've ever met someoe who lives in Wyoming. What's the population?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:23:36 PM EDT] <Laurna> hehe not far from it, Jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:08 PM EDT] <Derynifank> You should try the Skeleton series by Leigh Perry. includes a walking talking skeleton who lives in the attic. Really fun books
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:16 PM EDT] <imladris> about the same as the population of the County in Florida ... Approx 500k.... in an area larger than the UK
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:18 PM EDT] <jerusha> Just don't dress the puppies up as parrots
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:27 PM EDT] <Laurna> lol
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:44 PM EDT] <imladris> miss the rocket launches
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> I think that would be difficult, dressing puppies as parrots
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:24:57 PM EDT] <KK> Wow, Imladris. Just, wow!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:25:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Same friends who are planning the Roaring 20's New Year's Day brunch also started putting up their Halloween yard decor today. They have two skeletons who are in the yard at all times, decorated in seasonally-appropriate ways, and now they have a couple more skeletons, including a mermaid skeleton. The children in their neighborhood ask after the decorations; it's hilarious.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:25:39 PM EDT] <imladris> It is different..... nearest Walmart is 60 miles away.. in a city of almost 10k
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:25:58 PM EDT] <imladris> work halfway between a town of 1900, and one of 1300
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:26:08 PM EDT] <bynw> thats almost a culture shock for you imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:26:10 PM EDT] <Shiral> You'd have to plan your supply runs carefully
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:26:22 PM EDT] <Laurna> I had a scarlet Macaw her name was Rosa Carlota de Cartighena. Got her in Cartighena Columbia for my 16 th birthday. I no long her have her. but she was such a love and was always on my shoulder.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:26:25 PM EDT] <jerusha> I would have to go to the brunch as Phryne Fisher
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:26:33 PM EDT] <imladris> yeah.. amazon prime is useful here
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:27:02 PM EDT] <Derynifank> Do they use drones for delivery?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:27:27 PM EDT] <The_Bee> My older sisterfell in love with wyoming after reading "My FriendFlicka." Her first post-college job was in wyoming
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:27:47 PM EDT] <imladris> Got my Katherine/Reginald limited Codex from Amazon, as one of my first orders... so have been using amazon a very long time.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:08 PM EDT] <bynw> WY's population is about the same as my town's population
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:12 PM EDT] <imladris> No, but the town doesn't have mail delivery...
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:25 PM EDT] <imladris> have to go to a PO box....
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:28 PM EDT] <imladris> that is weird.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:30 PM EDT] <Laurna> No mail delivery.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:48 PM EDT] <The_Bee> not even RFD?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:49 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I thought evryone had mail delivery
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:53 PM EDT] <imladris> nope
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:28:56 PM EDT] <bynw> i think you officially live in the middle of no where
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:29:06 PM EDT] <imladris> HAVE to go to post-office.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:29:22 PM EDT] <jerusha> We have to do the same thing.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:29:34 PM EDT] <jerusha> But it's just down the road
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:29:52 PM EDT] <Laurna> I suppose it is a way to socialize with you neighbors . Meet at the post office.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:30:04 PM EDT] <imladris> well with a town of 1300, everything is just down the road
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:30:12 PM EDT] <KK> My post office is just across the street and down 2 houses, but they do deliver.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:31:22 PM EDT] <Shiral> My post office is quite close, also. And I get 6 day a week mail delivery
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:32:17 PM EDT] <imladris> am about a hundred miles east of the Yellowstone East Entrance. Went there Yesterday, Snow on the pass to get in... have a bison on the road covered in snow... took pic... gonna label "Summer in Yellowstone"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:33:06 PM EDT] <KK> Changing the subject slightly, how do you pronounce Phryne? I know of the character, of course, but this is one of the disadvantages ot reading something without hearing it.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:33:24 PM EDT] <jerusha> "fry-knee"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:33:47 PM EDT] <KK> OooooK. What's the derivation, do you know?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:33:50 PM EDT] <imladris> That happened to me a lot with my favourite series.... <glares at Katherine>
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:33:57 PM EDT] <Laurna> Yes that is the way it is said on the show. Fry-knee
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:15 PM EDT] <jerusha> Phryne was a Roman concubine.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> There was a Greek courtesan by that name.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:22 PM EDT] * KK casts her gaze upward and hums innocently.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:32 PM EDT] <jerusha> OK, maybe she was Greek
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:33 PM EDT] <Laurna> lol KK
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:38 PM EDT] <imladris> lol
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:34:44 PM EDT] <KK> Ah. OK. That makes sense.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:04 PM EDT] <jerusha> Her father meant to name her Phoebe, and messed up the birth certificate. :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:06 PM EDT] <Shiral> Well we know 2019 has not been a kind year, KK
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> She was arrested and tried for some capital crime, and when she presented her defense, she opened her gown and showed her breasts, and said that, as the gods made her so beautiful, executing her and thus destroying the beauty of her body was heresy. She was acquitted.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:22 PM EDT] <KK> BTW, what made you move to Wyoming, imladris? Work, I would assume--but what kind of work takes one to Wyoning?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:38 PM EDT] <Laurna> Der- en nee vs Der -in-i hard E or Hard I
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:35:57 PM EDT] <Laurna> I said it wrong for 30 years
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:36:15 PM EDT] <jerusha> You have a much better memory than mine, DR!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:36:24 PM EDT] <KK> Either is acceptable--regional dialects, perhaps. But I say Der-in-ee.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:36:32 PM EDT] <The_Bee> de-RIN -ee I think
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:36:57 PM EDT] * bynw has always used Der-in-ee as well
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:36:58 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I, ah, belong to a group of people in the SCA with courtesan personae; she is one of our inspirational/aspirational historical persons. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:37:13 PM EDT] <imladris> quit being a primary care doc in solo practice, and took a job that includes working the ER at a critical access hospital - decided I would otherwise be about 153 before I could retire.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:37:15 PM EDT] <jerusha> I still struggle with Alaric. I thought it was pronounced Ah-LAR-ic
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:37:52 PM EDT] <Shiral> I did too originally JErusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:37:58 PM EDT] <Laurna> Jerusha Ido the same
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:12 PM EDT] <The_Bee> If it's your name, you can pronounce it however you like.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:13 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I thought that was how one pronounces Alaric
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:39 PM EDT] <The_Bee> i sat AL-a-ric
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:41 PM EDT] <Laurna> Then I saw one of KK's videos and learned how she pernounced it.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:43 PM EDT] <Derynifank> So KK, how do we say Alaric?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:43 PM EDT] <The_Bee> say
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:55 PM EDT] <Shiral> I used to pronounce Deryni as DEER-in-ee
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:38:57 PM EDT] <jerusha> I have heard it pronounced AL-a-ric
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:15 PM EDT] <Derynifank> How does KK say it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:19 PM EDT] <KK> Cool, imladris. I'd forgotten you're a doc. Emergency medicine that close to Yellowstone and that sort of terrain must be challenging at times, with oddball injuries.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:33 PM EDT] <The_Bee> It means "King of All," I believe.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:42 PM EDT] <KK> I say AL-ar-ic.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:43 PM EDT] <Laurna> OH
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:39:54 PM EDT] <imladris> am closer to the "Bighorn Mountatins"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:40:03 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I've always pronounced Deryni as "der-IN-ee," and Alaric the way KK just said.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:40:16 PM EDT] <Shiral> In Southern France, I saw road signs for "Les Montagnes d'Alaric."
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:40:28 PM EDT] <Laurna> Love it
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:40:47 PM EDT] <Shiral> But we didn't go there, as we were on our way to see Carcassonne
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:40:57 PM EDT] <KK> Skiing accidents, then, at least in winter. And sunburn and dehydration and the like in summer. And then, there're the damned-foolishness sorts of injuries that make ER staff roll their eyes.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:41:30 PM EDT] <Shiral> The kind of people who say "Hold my beer" and then end up in the emergency room
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:41:41 PM EDT] <imladris> yep...
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:41:59 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> I think a "barbarian" general or king was named Alaric in the late western Roman Empire...not sure
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:13 PM EDT] <Shiral> I think you're right, BTE
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:16 PM EDT] <DesertRose> And mothers who are normally of a remarkably-difficult-to-ruffle temperament to read their sons a Riot Act for the ages. Not that I ever witness, say, my beloved paternal aunt doing such a thing to her then-15-year-old son who thought it was a good idea to go skateboarding while taking Percocet after having his wisdom teeth extracted. ;)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:18 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yes, I believe he sacked Rome
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:40 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I have a friend who is an Emt and had a shirt that said 'we can't fix stupid"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:40 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> exactly
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:42:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> Mellow kind of guy....
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:43:11 PM EDT] <imladris> BTE, the first german to sack Rome
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:43:22 PM EDT] <Shiral> Fortunately, Alaric Morgan is unlikely to sack Rhemuth
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:43:53 PM EDT] <Shiral> "He sacked Rome, but you can't fix stupid."
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:43:57 PM EDT] <KK> This is true.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:44:14 PM EDT] <imladris> Was also an Arian... so.... was addition of Heresy
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:44:27 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I fantasize that the Morgans came from Caeriesse.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:44:30 PM EDT] <DesertRose> *witnessed. As a person with a BA in English, I should know better. :P
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:45:05 PM EDT] <jerusha> It's just that rented fingers thing
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:45:17 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> IIRC the Romans mistreated the Goths and others, the sacking might've been payback
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:45:27 PM EDT] <DesertRose> I can roll with that, jerusha. :)
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:00 PM EDT] <bynw> i'm sure the sacking of Rome was justified in the eyes of a sackers
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:07 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Yes, as I recall Alaric I, chieftain of the Visigoths, actually was fostered for a time at some Roman court, might not have been the city of Rome itself, though it might have been.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:23 PM EDT] <imladris> DR... you are right
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:25 PM EDT] <The_Bee> "Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain."
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:46 PM EDT] <DesertRose> LOL, Bee. I love that!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:46:59 PM EDT] <Derynifank> So true
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:47:12 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I for get who originally said it.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:47:19 PM EDT] <DesertRose> That might need to be immortalized in cross stitch or something. :D
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:47:29 PM EDT] <Shiral> Someone who contended with stupidity, I'll bet
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:47:30 PM EDT] <KK> But you remembered the quote!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:22 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> am reduced to one-handed typing. His Grace needs my other arm for a pillow just now
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:26 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Isaac Azimov used it as the basis for one of his novels, IIRC.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:35 PM EDT] <imladris> He probably would have been accepted as new Caesar, if he wasn't considered a Heretic by the rest of Rome.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:45 PM EDT] <DesertRose> Google says the German poet Friedrich Schiller, from his play The Maid of Orleans (which, from the title, I'm guessing is about Joan of Arc).
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:46 PM EDT] <imladris> Silly Asses, Bee?
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:48:56 PM EDT] <imladris> short story by Asimov
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:49:16 PM EDT] <The_Bee> novel I THINK.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:50:06 PM EDT] <The_Bee> "The Gods themselves"
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:50:33 PM EDT] <imladris> gonna get dark if I don't get the steaks started... look up the short story.. is a bit preachy but funny.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:50:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> Enjoy the steaks, Imladris
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:50:57 PM EDT] <imladris> ty
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:50:58 PM EDT] <jerusha> Yes, Imladris; enjoy!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:11 PM EDT] <bynw> hmmmm yum steaks
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:12 PM EDT] <imladris> night all.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:14 PM EDT] <bynw> enjoy
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:16 PM EDT] <jerusha> I should be going as well. Hope everyone has an excellent week!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:17 PM EDT] <The_Bee> I'll see if I can find the story, Imladris.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:28 PM EDT] <BalanceTheEnergies> good night
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:34 PM EDT] <jerusha> Nighters!
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:36 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Bye jrusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:45 PM EDT] <Shiral> Bye, Jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:51:54 PM EDT] <bynw> night jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:17 PM EDT] <Laurna> Good Night Jerusha
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:38 PM EDT] <Derynifank> I think I will go now too. Hope everyone has an excellent week. Nite all
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:41 PM EDT] <KK> Yes, that reminds me that it <is> getting late by tummy-time. Think I'll also head out, if the orange purr monster will let me up. See you guys next week.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:44 PM EDT] <Shiral> NIght, DFK
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:48 PM EDT] <Shiral> ANd night, KK
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:52:57 PM EDT] <The_Bee> Who's still here? My list of chatters has vanished.
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:53:01 PM EDT] <Laurna> Good Night KK. Have a nice week
[Sunday, September 22, 2019] [8:53:03 PM EDT] <Shiral> Ear scritches to the Orange Purr Monster
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
